We drove to Columbus from Maine in one day, and were in need of a good meal. It was 8:50 on a rainy Tuesday night and we were still 30 min away. Called to see when they stopped serving and was told they'd take orders until 9:30. Screamed in at 9:20 and received a lovely greeting and invitation to sit at the bar. Restaurant was empty at that point and we were happy with the prospect of fast service. The entire team, wait staff and kitchen, could have called it in when you think about it -- but they didn't!! The bartender (John, I think) was delightful and very knowledgeable about the wine list, craft cocktails and menu. Food was outstanding. Fish was cooked perfectly, shrimp and grits lived up to the hype! Overall, and exceptional experience.

We love G. Michaels. Jeff always has a cheerful greeting and the atmosphere is comfortable without being too formal. Their seasonal menus are always great and the daily specials never fail to surprise. Service is friendly, prompt and attentive. We particularly enjoy dining in the "Atrium" but the bar and patio are equally inviting. The food is excellent with the best Shrimp and Grits in Columbus. Great for special occasions or just dinner out.

I've been here twice, and both times were splendid affairs. First off -- pay to valet. It's only $5, and that beats the price of an unexpected German Village ticket (which are easy to get in the area). To the restaurant: The decor is atmospheric and relaxing/romantic. This is a restaurant for couples and celebrations, not young kids (but the price should have told you that, too). The service is top-notch. The waiters are friendly, fun, and knowledgeable, and give you what you need without hovering — perfect. The food is fantastic. Relatively simple, but fresh, quality ingredients, and deliciously prepared. The wine and dessert lists are excellent as well. If you're looking for upscale but not pretentious, this is your spot.

I've been wanting to visit G. Michael's for a while so I was pretty psyched when I went for my birthday. Seeing how they are one of Columbus' best fine dining establishments, I had some pretty high expectations... which unfortunately were shot down or should I say exploded? The biggest problem I had was how BLAND the food was. First we ordered a fork and knife crostini that tasted like nothing even though it was suppose to have harissa flavored chicken on it and mind you harissa is a CHILI PASTE! The bread wasn't toasted properly so it got really soggy in the middle. I ordered the walleye and it was cooked very well but my plate looked like someone splat (trying to keep it G-rated) food on it. It came with what was suppose to a potato cake but it was like soggy hash browns lumped together. The lemon-caper sauce could've been anything. My mom had the scallops which were cooked perfectly but everything was so under seasoned. The only good dish was the banana bread pudding which was seriously delicious. I just don't get how the food could've been that bland- I don't if it was a fluke or what but I won't be back to try the food again!

I don't recall having been treated better at any restaurant. The staff are polite, attentive without being obtrusive, knowledgeable, careful and helpful, as evidenced by our waiter, Patrick. The food is extraordinary. Three of us had separate appetizers and entrees that we each sampled. All were perfectly cooked, presented beautifully and the taste sensations solidified the feelings of comfort and satisfaction we all had when we first walked through the door. When I return to Columbus I will return to this restaurant and I heartily encourage others to do so.

Host/owner took us in on a Sat night w/o reservations. We sat at the bar and had an amazing feast. Sprouts and shrimp/grits were amazing. Mahi was absolutely outstanding. Trout was phenomenal. Can't say enough about food and the service. Bartenders we're extremely knowledgeable about gluten free options, which is not common. If I lived in the area, this would be a regular stop.

We couldn’t believe the condescending attitude of out server. She treated us like we were an inconvenience and she was doing us a favor. The manager did absolutely nothing to rectify our poor experience. Very disappointing. The food was not as I’ve heard. I would have not minded the fish being sub-par and other dishes over salted if the staff had pulled through, as friendliness and caring go a long way. Food can be lacking from time to time for a number of reasons, but there is no excuse for poor service.

This is my FAVORITE place German Village!!! Simple the best restaurant in the area. Their happy hour is amazing. $6 cocktails $5 wine $3 beer $8 apps/shareable. You can't do better. (Happy hour bar area only) The food and service is hands down the best in the city!!! Great for special occasions or if you find yourself at the book loft. This is a must try in CBUS!

This was our first time to G. Michael's. We heard from several friends how amazing this was supposed to be. Unfortunately, it was disappointing to say the least. We arrived a little early and stood at the bar, nice ambiance, but it was the bar. Our server was hard to understand, never mentioned it was our anniversary, which I started upon making the reservation. She rushed taking our order, she made no suggestions. We had the Brussels sprouts as an appetizer, they were good, not great. My wife had the lasagna, honestly, it was not even worthy of being called lasagna. I had the Broiled oysters. I would have loved this to be the experience that I heard was so wonderful, we left hungry and disappointed.

The food is consistently great. I had lamb shanks this time and they were very good. The chocolate mousse for dessert, though, was amazing. We frequent the restaurant about 1-2 a year because it is on the pricer side for Columbus, but it is worth it. We usually take home some leftovers, but we also get appetizers, entrees, and desserts. The service is attentive and is always consistent. The atmosphere is the only drawback and that is because it is just alright. We will be back again.

My husband and I went to celebrate a belated Valentine's Day dinner. I should say this was our first and last time to the restaurant. The atmosphere is nice, but very loud with small tables (you could almost share your neighbors food that is how close). However the real issue was the food and sub-par service... We started with the lobster johnny cake and oysters bienville, the lobster was overcooked and the oysters tasted off (very sour). Then my husband had the crab soup, the soup was too thin, had been watered down with too much butter and cream. I had a seared yellowfin tuna, which equated to a block of tuna seared and raw in the center, it was disgusting. My husband had the Sea Scallops & Braised Beef the scallops were rubbery & beef was tough. The manager or assistant manager checked on our meals and we said "fine". He came back and could tell it was not "fine". He said that though it was a difference of chef's techniques with our taste, offered free dessert. The dessert and salad were the only things pleasant about the meal. Later that night I ended up with food poisoning.

The menu did not disappoint, some restaurants who participate in restaurant week do not live up to their daily standard, but G. Michael kept the menu as excellent as their daily menu they offer. We all got something off the menu, so we were able to try a little bite from each other's plates.y favorite was the first course of the pheasant, really good flavor and surprisingly big portion for a starter.

This place is outstanding. The food is all locally sourced and it is absolutely delicious. The servers and bartenders are super friendly and very pleasant. The setting is great and they have set up the dining room so you are comfortable and not over crowded. The prices are very fair for what you get and how delicious the food is. A white tablecloth-type restaurant where my 20-something compatriots and I were maybe slightly out of place (or at least made to feel that way). We came for happy hour, which you must sit at the bar to receive (there wasn't much of a crowd besides us.) The small plates are $8 each, and ,while tasty, the food wasn't as hot and didn't seem as fresh as I would've liked. Other than the fried calamari, the plates are indeed SMALL - I can't imagine paying almost twice as much for them as appetizers. The bartenders were attentive and fast, and brought out bread, too, which was nice. My friend with a delicate palate asked for a sweet fruity drink and got something close to a vodka martini, however, which I don't think he enjoyed very much. The draft beer selection is VERY limited, although sizable glasses are $3 during happy hour; craft cocktails are $5, which does seem like a nice deal. This might be a better place to go for dinner, though (if you can afford to live in German Village)

This is our favorite date night spot. We usually sit up at the bar and chat with our neighbors and the bar tenders. (They are all very friendly.) Our favorite item on the menu is the octopus. It is to die for! It is always tender and cooked perfectly. Octopus isn’t always on the menu as the chef changes things up from time to time. But if it is available, order it! We also love the shrimp and grits. The Liberace is my favorite cocktail. Stop in. You won’t be disappointed!

The quail with Johnny cakes and the graham cracker calamari were both excellent. The cocktail list is pretty phenomenal as well and you can get a Sazerac for $6!

This restaurant is confusing. G. Michael’s touts themselves a “Southern Cuisine” bistro. I discovered this from my waiter as I arrived for the kickoff to my 7 restaurants in in 7 days Restaurant Week experience. I struggled to link the menu options to anything southern I’d ever tasted or heard of (although, there was a lot of pork on the menu so maybe that’s the “southern” part??—idk]. I’m a team player so, I played along. Aside from the “southern cuisine” confusion, the pescatarian/vegetarian options are far too sweet. Couldn’t finish the butternut squash entree—It was far too sweet especially after the first course—mussels. It was served in a sweet and creamy corn based sauce. I don’t enjoy that at all. Apple crisp was soggy and burnt. Wasn’t the best dining experience, to say the least. The atmosphere and location were perfect however and the service was impeccable.

A lot of reviews here about the Shrimp and Grits (a menu staple), and they are great. But definitely venture off into the menu and try something different. Chef's seasonal menu is full of surprises. My wife and I make this our "go to" choice for dinner every time we go out. LOVE G. Michael's!

It's nice, fancy food. If you're at all comfortable with parallel parking, do not pay for valet. You can almost always get a spot within two blocks for free. I got the duck breast and it was a little over-cooked, but still delicious.

This is a very upscale and pricey restaurant. The food was exceptionally good, I had the Pheasant breast with potatoes and it was very good. There was quite a large selection of wines and beers, which was very nice to compliment the meal. Everything was a little pricey for my taste, but then it is a very nice restaurant.

The place has a really interesting layout with 3 different sections. Each of them have an unique vibe. The first section is in the bar and it is a little crowded and noisy. The next section was in a heavily windowed area that let in beautiful amounts of natural light. The last section is next to an open kitchen. I definitely recommend asking for the natural light section. The food at each course was delicious. We started out with sautéed frog legs and fried green tomatoes. Both of them were great! The next course we had the chilled sweet corn and crab soup. I'd recommend skipping this choice. Finally, we had the pork duo for the entrée. Easily the best part of the meal. The flavors all complemented and balanced each other. The risotto was really well cooked.

If you have celiac disease, BEWARE! Their gluten free menu is not truly gluten free. My wife became seriously ill before we even left the restaurant. Those that suffer from celiac disease know very quickly when they've had something with wheat in it.

I have no complaints about the food, but we were seated at a table with a wonderful view of the kitchen. The wait staff were all dressed for an upscale place, but we were looking at cooks in tee shirts and ball caps. The wait staff was a little too friendly. We wanted a nice dinner together, but we're are constantly being asked how our dinner was.

Great food and a really knowledgeable staff. The presentation was really good and the appetizers were outstanding. The bacon wrapped shrimp and cream cheese was so amazing I had to order more! I highly recommend this place if it is within your budget, it can get pricey but a superior quality and attention to detail makes it worth it.
