This Restaurant corresponds to the category of Indian restaurant.
I love this place so much. I just wish they were open later. I've eaten in and had delivery. Both experiences were great. Delicious food with fresh, local ingredients!
I like the old menu. The price went up but the quality didn't. Service is always top notch.
Tasty fast casual.
This is always a go-to restaurant when I’m in Orange or Beachwood. It’s always busy in there but unless you’re taking out, you’ll get your order very quickly. Whenever I take out, it takes a little more time to get my food but I let it slide since the food is always on point.
This is the best Indian food in the mid-west. So good, in fact, I drove 40 minutes each way to get take-out and was so eager to eat it I choked on the first bite with the largest piece of chicken in my Choolaah Bowl™ with white rice and yellow daal (would recommend). While choking I was even thinking I wanted Choolaah catered to my funeral. Will be (carefully) eating there again!
Love this concept. Please take it on the road.
Good food, great service. Definitely becoming a favorite eating spot!
The food was good. The place was a disaster. Really messy . All the employees were standing around dirty tables ect.
Everything about this place is great , food , clean and great service.
Horrible place to try to grab a bite to eat!!!! This place was more like a DISTURBING playground where uncontrollable children are running around ALL the tables with ZERO consideration for others!!! It was my first time at this place and I won't ever be back again!!! To pay 50 bucks for 2 plates of just ok food without even be able to sit down and eat in peace it's beyond disgusting!!!
Very delicious and authentic food .
This first experience of this chain was exceptional. The staff was very friendly, helpful and seemingly happy. The environment is bright, clean, and artistically designed. The food was the best Indian that I have tasted in the pittsburgh area. Its affordable and just plain delicious! I will be a definite repeat customer.
Absolutely great, can't recommend enough! Very filling and great portions. They have vegetarian and all types of allergy friendly choices, like the Chipotle of Indian food. Definitely have to go back to try more things. And you can watch them make the food, which is all high quality.
Let me be the first to say Indian food is never my go to food spot (no hard feelings, it's just not my favorite). However I was pleasantly surprised and very very full after my meal here. Great options for vegans to GF to meat eaters. The daal was flavorful and the naan was made fresh. Samosas I could've done without but otherwise yummm. Prices are fair and the sauces are truly spicy! You were warned!
Wonderful food! From the second you walk in, you can smell the spices and delicious food cooking. The whole restaurant is completely open concept, including the kitchen, which I love. It’s an ultra modern style design, which is bright and inviting. You can watch the employees cook the entrees and bake naan in the clay ovens. The food was so flavorful and fresh! This place is definitely a staple for me now. They have a lot of vegan options as well.
Most excellent service Server was bright helpful and very well spken: Ninoshka
Pretty good concept.. empty stomach is a veat way to go.. i gave 4 stars just because of less gravy in bowl.. i will rather take it on side.. overall good experience..
I tried a couple things and I gotta admit, the food tastes pretty good and actually better than most restaurant in India.
It was different indian food. Lots of choices with different flavors. Food was awesome.
If you love Indian food this is your restaurant!
Not what I expected for BBQ but the food was tasty. I recommend sampling the sauces. I really liked the mint yogurt. The salmon was simple but good and I really enjoyed the samosas without the chickpeas on top.
Very nice. Food was pretty good. Prices not bad. I will definitely go again.
So awesome,The samosas were quite perfect. Please bring one of these to Oak Forest,Il or Orland Park,Il
Authentic taste. Awesome panner (Cheese used in Indian cooking). Excellent vegetarian and other options. Very good service.
We have ordered takeout so many times that I have lost count. Never ever had a single complaint until this last month. One of the things we loved about Choolaah was the basmati rice. Now, it seems a shorter, sticky rice is being used, some of it even in hard clumps. Also keep forgetting our sauces. What's going on, guys?? Bring back your better rice and double check your orders, please. Thanks. **UPDATE: spoke with choolaah representatives and they were quick to address my complaints and provide A+ service. have since dined here again and food was very awesome, back to yum status. maybe they just were having a couple bad days. back to 5 stars. thanks!!
Items were definitely having real Indian taste.I believe it is the best Indian restaurant in Pittsburgh
We went for the first time and we're lucky enough to get Sean who waited on us at the counter gave us a few free samples to try and then walked around the menu with us he really knows his stuff. I've had Indian Cuisine before but didn't care for it this place is different and the food was awesome. The food was great and Sean's help was very much appreciated
Delicious! Nice place, good concept. The mango lemonade is exceptional!
Reasonable price, very little delay, pretty tasty
Nice food. Enjoyed the dishes
New menu with low carb options is fantastic!! Loving the salmon & salad options!
Fast paced Indian food, good taste and quality.
Always great food and great service!
Best thing about it was the hand washing gadget... so that says a lot about the food...
Never disappointing food. One of my friend told me once. If in doubt, Go to Choolah. The food is always good and staff is really friendly. Love the place the idea of how they designed it. Gives a really good vibe
This place is incredible. Slightly pricey but worth it. I recommend the perfect balance bowl with chicken and tikka masala. Be sure to add a naan!
The food here is real! And they have a hand washing robot. Buy stock in this place cause it's better than Chipotle.
This is my second time coming here today after a long time and I had a great experience once again. The customer service is always amazing. I really appreciated the staff letting me try a couple of the sides since I didn't know what they tasted like. The food is delicious and great quality. I'm going to be more of a regular from now on!
This place had delicious food! Quick and easy! It seems like they really take care of their employees because they were all very nice and happy to actually be working (what a concept!) :)
They got this new pro bowl which has double veggies. It tastes so good
Amazing!! We'll be back!! The food was Fabulous!! Crowded but we got our food quickly. Everyone who worked there was very nice. The young man cleaning up the dining room really cared about his job and kept the dining room looking great!
I enjoy the food here a lot. The tikka masala and Naan bread is delicious.
I like the food quite a bit, but I find it to be way too expensive for the category.
Good food and clean space. Maybe slightly too expensive, but still a good spot. Service is friendly. Their Naan is probably the best thing there, as they make it fresh from scratch. Sauces as also really great. A good addition to the surrounding cuisine.
Awesome Indian soul food. The lamb meat ball wrap was too good. Will come again.
Flavorful, but lacking in some way. Good value Indian food.
Good place for a quick bite.
Great service and same taste everything all time my wife and kids like this all the time
Delicious Indian food made fast :-)
A great change in the normal lunch options that you become use to. The samosas are delicious but make sure you get the spicy mango sauce for them! Everything I have had has been really good, but I keep going back for the Chicken Tiki Masala.
Nice decor. Delicious food. Love mango lassi and malai kulfi
First time eating here, and wish I would have a lot sooner! I had a chicken masala bowl with a piece of naan. It was delicious! I doubt I will be able to replicate, but I find myself Googling recipes. Next time, I will definitely eat inside!
I am not indian, I like the food here a lot. In fact, the only Indian food I love in PGH
The Pro bowl is the best!!
When they say eat happy it’s not a lie the authenticity & originality brings in all cultures for a delicious bite. Amazing staff & even better food hands down favorite spot in pgh.
Amazing food, slightly expensive but well worth it!
One of the best food you can get ....!!!
Awesome place for some quick, but tasty Indian food. Paneer bowl was amazing. But the stuffing in the samosas they used for samosa chat was just mashed potatoes; not the typical flavour you'd expect out of a samosa.
First time there, Ruchi C. was extremely inviting and let me sample all of the sauces and lemonades. Ended up buying a bowl and Mango Lemonade which was all great. Will be back.
Very rich ambience, with a nice patio, high quality and tasty food. Loved this place, it is one of its kind, we have tried almost all the dishes available here, fast service and lovely people. Must try their desserts (Kulfis). Their meat and paneer is really fresh and really good taste.
The restaurant is clean and the service is fast.
We ordered out food for pick up. 1st, they didn't include all of our order. We didn't realize this until we were home and had to drive back to the store. 2nd, once we got back, they didn't even look at our order and just handed us a random bowl that didn't include the right things. Rather than deal with yet another mistake, we left. Very disappointed
Really good food. Don't forget to wash your hands in the machine in front of the prep window.
Always delicious and super nice staff!
New management? Seems things have changed. Order process is much more complicated and first timers really slow things down. The food wasn't as authentic and bordered on bland. Disappointing visit
Tasty food, friendly staff, eco friendly and ambience is not boring at all. The menu is simple, service is quick. Person taking the order helped us taste the different curry options before we order. Portion size is just right, no food coma. The desert was icing on the cake, figuratively. Wish we had something like this in Chicago land.
Refreshingly Good! Hardly we say it for indian food as it is heavy on cream and spices. We tried multiple items. Samosa chat, paav bhaji, chicken bowl, paneer roll, yellow daal and rice. Nothing was disappointing. Even after this meal, we didn't felt stuffed. The staff was friendly but didn't offer any assistance with ordering. May be my indian looks and accent fill in for that
VERY TASTY FRESH AND QUICK
Americanized Indian restaurant that still manages to maintain authentic taste. Several interesting dishes on their menu including some chaat items, juices and samosa. There are a ton of sauces to choose from. The interiors are very modern and classy. Great dining spot!
Pretty much everything on the menu is good. I wouldn't recommend the wraps though, they taste good, but are pretty expensive for what you get.
I've been here at least a dozen times. The chicken with the Tikka massala is amazing, the flavor of the chicken is soooo good. Also their mango lassis are great. The employees here go above and beyond to ensure excellent service and quality. The whole place has a happy, joyous vibe. Very reasonably priced too.
Great concept for India food. Must go
I love this restaurant. The food is so fresh and healthy. The interior is really nice too with all the custom made tables and chairs.
This was my first time trying this place, and I really liked it. Our server was very nice and explained everything & let me sample the sauces. The restaurant is very clean, with a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.
The hand washing thing is crazy
This is my favorite place if I want fast Indian food and I'm in the Beechwood area
American style Indian food... superb taste...
I've never had a bad meal at Choolah. Great atmosphere, awesome food, and I LOVE that there's a BYOB option.
Amazing food! You should come here every weekend
Going down??? I have had good visits in the past and have liked the food but a recent visit was very poor. Food quality and service- Food was cold and service was poor. I had asked for chicken to be served in a separate portion cup. I would not have minded paying extra. But the manager rudely refused such a small request. Pest infestation- There are so many fruit flies going around. They come from the trash cans and can sit on your food. I have mentioned it to the staff in the past and no improvement is seen. This could be a health hazard. Maybe invest in trash bins that close automatically like they have at the new chick fill a. Do current front-line managers care about customers at this restaurant?. Maybe some changes are needed considering that the quality was good in the past.
Will definitely come back! Food was delicious and service was quick!
The people who work here are amazing! They took the time to explain all the choices and answer any questions we had. They genuinely cared that we had a great experience, a we did! The food was amazing! The decor was fun to look at! And they checked in with us as we were leaving to see how our first experience was. I will definitely go there again!
Was a great experience having food there. Surprisingly there were no Indians working in an Indian restaurant. Food is great and the ambience is terrific. I would visit again if ever be back to Pittsburgh.
Casual atmosphere with good food. The salmon was delicious and perfectly cooked!
Amazing chicken! Not that many options if you're picky but it was a good mix up and seemed popular as it was very busy.
A good place to go for a quick Indian fix. Kind of Indian fast food and it meets that expectation.
Definitely something new. The flavor was comparable to home cooked masala I've experienced at a friend's home. I'm a new fan.
Delicious food! I had the veggies with the chickpeas masala and rice which was fantastic! Their free add-ons apple tamarind, mango chutney and mint chutney were ridiculously good! Definitely going back!
This place is delicious! First time here and was pleasantly surprised. The Chicken is superb. The vegetables are awesome and the place is very clean.
Food was good but they didn’t put the Naan in my To go order.
Great atmosphere and food! Interesting modern style. Highly recommend for anyone around town.
Really, really good. Fast casual Indian food, but does not taste "fast" at all. Everything is well-prepared and the inside is very inviting. Modern and delicious place
One of my main food spots when I am in Pittsburgh. Choolah is located nearby a parking garage which makes it very convenient if you have a car (first 30 minutes is free). Upon entering you see the nice open space and plenty of seating offered here. The customer service is great and all the staff I have come into contact with were all really friendly. My food usually was ready in less then 5 minutes. The prices are reasonable (about $10) and the food always come out fresh for me. My go to meal is the perfect balance bowl with paneer and black dal. Although it’s a bbq/western take on Indian food I still highly recommend this place.
So glad i tried this place out! Don't be afraid to ask for samples at the counter if you're not sure what something is. Very nice modern interior, friendly staff, filling portions.
I enjoyed my visit and food. Indian version of Chipotle. Very clean, quick service, modern music, ample seating. Was over $10 for cheapest bowl with naan. If money were not a thing would come again. Edit: you should come just to use the hand washing machine.
I visited this place for more than 5 times and now Im giving a review as this gave me different type of experience different times. But on the whole 4/5 times i went I had very bad food and bad taste. They look like Indo-American fusion food but they are not up to the mark.
Very yummy and the portions are just right.
Love India good. Ask questions if you need assistance, the staff is very helpful, you can even taste a masala if you are unsure. Both the bowls, an wrapps are good. Naan... yummmmmmy!
A great idea of Indian food served Chipotle style. Clean, hygienic and very tasty
I agree with post below about Shawn ( after entering Sean on the survey noticed spelling on receipt) being very cool. Went with the chickpea cauliflower wrap and was impressed. I like being able to get something vegan or vegetarian if it's good. And it was.
First time coming eating here and will definitely be back. Decent selection of different entrees, sides and even drinks and sauces. Prices were more than fair for how high of quality the proteins and other ingredients were. Every employee we interacted with with was quick, pleasant and seemed happy to help us. Highly recommend!
Great flavors and really good portions. Have never been disappointed here. Their chocolate truffles are amazing!
Choolaah makes washing your hands great again.
Modern Indian Restaurant I was travelling from Atlanta, made a quick stop for Indian food had really amazing experience. Food was tasty as I was expecting, service was brilliant, you can see your food being made in front of you. Really loved Interior of this place. Overall compared to other Indian restaurants price is inexpensive for all the food items. I wish you guys can open a branch in Atlanta. Must visit palace.
Worth the money.. good one..even if u golate after 3 pm for lunch
One of our favorite "fast food" places in the city. The food is fantastic, but the experience is as well. We love everything- from the swing, the book stack, the poetry wall, the hand washing station, the windows to the kitchen to watch the tandoor ovens. We always leave not just full, but relaxed and happy :)
Absolutely amazing! Delicious food. Make sure they don’t burn your naan :)
best Indian restaurant in Pittsburgh , proud to be an indian
I normally really like Choolaah but I was disappointed in the lamb. I'll stick with their chicken...
Great place with healthy and yummy food options. Staff was really friendly and helpful and all this comes with a classy, spacious ambience. Really impressive!
Amazing indian cuisine at an affordable price
The food is really, really good here, and it's prepared quickly. Top quality. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options. I could eat their naan all day.
A bit expensive for what you get. It's very flavorful and fast service
I had a great experience with Choolaah. I did the mobile order and went in to pick it up. I was a few minutes early and my order wasn't ready yet, so I waited at one of the tables. One of the staff noticed I had been waiting for a while, apologized and gave me a chocolate truffle. Super nice of him to do. Will return!
Best Indian chipotle i have ever had !
Best Indian food that I've had in Pittsburgh. Very authentic, quick service and friendly staff.
Lamb meatballs and mango lassi...mmmm!
A very innovative take on Indian food! A mix of fast food and traditional Indian that does not compromise on taste! Super delicious and filling! I would eat here again no questions asked.
It had amazing paneer wraps
Loved this place. So fresh and good. Everyone loved it including the kids. Already planning on returning
Pleasant experience. Delicious representation of Indian food. Excellent attention to details!!
One of my favorite Indian food places. Everything tastes really good.
Really good food. 1 bowl, bread, samosas and a drink $18
We need this in Cincinnati! So delicious!
Amazing food. Very nice workers. And FREE parking garage in East Liberty!!!
Good food but a little pricey to get the things you really want. Wife wanted the double veggie bowl but it doesn't come with any Masala? it's $3 extra? Maybe next time we'll just ask for four samples of the Tikka! Not a fan of the pricing but cool spot and BYOB so there's that.
I enjoyed my meal, it was delicious. The only thing I did not like was the piece of fat that was left on the chicken. Other than that everything was great. The mango ice cream was delicious. I will definitely be back.
Vibrant and bright atmosphere. The cashier was overwhelmingly cordial and helpful in explaining the menu since it was my first time. She explained everything in detail and the numerous combinations I could choose from. Nearly the whole kitchen is visible, very clean and it's pretty cool to see the tandoor ovens in the front. I had a bowl with lamb meatballs, chickpea masala, brown rice, and mixed vegetables with a mint yogurt sauce. The flavor and juiciness of the meatballs was excellent, as well the depth of flavor from the masala. Plenty of open space to sit and can easily accommodate groups.
Atmosphere is really good, place is clean. I don't know about meat options but surely the veggie platter is a delight. Would have been better if the Tikka sauce quantity was a little increased. Friendly staff with extreme patience
Excelent Indian Bar-B-Que restaurant. I am sure you never disappoint here. Very frequently came here for lunch or dinner and every time love it...
The place is awesome! Good food, good service and very clean. The only reason why I didn't give it five stars is because it's pricey.
Very pricey. Food was just okay... you can get real, authentic Indian food at a much cheaper price with more food in other spots in Pittsburgh. This place is like the "Chipotle" of Indian Food.
The food here is absolutely amazing. The interior is always nice and clean and the ingredients they use are always fresh. I always enjoy my time here! It’s a must try if your in the area!
Great Indian BBQ around Cleveland. Inside has a great decorations and nice setup. Food was amazing, ordered the chicken choolah bowl with lentil along with butter naan and mango lemonade. The chicken bowl was great along with the butter naan which came with spicy mango side dressing. The mango lemonade was one of the best lemonade I ever try with real mango flavor and large amount. Will definitely stop by when I pass by Cleveland.
Good food. Cool hand washing machine.
One of the best places to eat. Food is great quality and price.
Food is great, nice people and great service.
Best Paav Bhaji in Pittsburgh! So good. A must try!
This is the first time I am trying the Choolaah. Was very satisfied with the food. Pav bahji's were the best I had recently. The wraps had a fresh & crunchy twist. The bowls were very good as well. Would visit again for sure.
Good food, a change of pace from the majority of restaurants in the area
I had the Choolaah salad with salmon. It was excellent. Everything was fresh and cooked just the right way. Interesting tea varieties as well.
Choolaah had a great taste when it started. The quality has gone down noticably since then. Especially the paneer - used to very soft, now it's a but harder, and overall spices/aroma has reduced.
Lighting is nice, which is the best thing I'm probably going to say here. The food has *zero* spice, the 'hot sauces' are less hot than typical bottle of Tabasco and have less flavor. I ordered a lamb Choolaah bowl... Which apparently means meatballs. How does one 'BBQ' meatballs? Badly apparently because the were cool inside. I'm so underwhelmed that I'm not going to ask for a lid for my disposable bowl after I finish this review. Another peeve is that this place feels waaaay to pretentious for the Indian version of Five Guys that it is. Calling the checkout staff "ambassadors", the pretentious ads on the digital signage, the overdone lighting and wall art? Why? I just wanted some spicy India food.
Wow. Had authentic Indian food after so long! The place is too good- ambience and atmosphere is awesome. Menu is vegetarian friendly
Healthy fresh food fast! There naan bread is sooooo good cause they bake fresh right there in front of u and still hot off the press!! The chicken is deliciously seasoned! I don’t know what it it but it’s good! The whole little set up is pretty nice!
Good food, but on the pricey side for the portion size.
DELICIOUS!! Wish i could eat everyday or rather one that is closer.
It's a simple way to enjoy Indian style food!
Delicious, imaculate, modern fast-food Indian restaurant. There's even an àutomatic hand washer. The grilled chicken was moist and tender as were the veggies. Wish there was a Choolaah in California.
Really good quick Indian food and also a very cool vibe inside the restaurant. Prices are also reasonable for the portions.
Good food, nice location, but everything has @#$%ing cilantro in it. It's so bad that they have a chart for what doesn't have cilantro in it.
Good foods, food value
I was disappointed this time. The menu has changed and I felt the food quantity has also decreased. I understand that the concept is modern and place is interesting, the food was a staple until now. Please change the menu, change the pricing. Keep it simple.
Good food. Great ambiance
We stopped for a quick lunch after checking the place on google. I was excited as it said the meat was halal.. but actually after asking cake out that only the lamb meatballs are. I wished the chicken was too as my kids wanted chicken tika masala.. The food was delicious, lots of sauces to try. Naan bread is thin and really good. I loved the variety of veggies in my plate. Everything tasted great and fresh.
Really good food. Convenient ordering experience.
Great food, great options. Love the different sauces and freestyle pop machine. Also, the hand washing machine is super fun if you've never experienced that. Not exactly cheap eats, but high quality.
The food is great, quantity is decreasing, manager was rude
This place will surprise you. I'll return with my friends. Bring your hunger - portions are generous. Feels similar to a restaurant in New York I loved.
Everything tastes good over here. Do try the wraps; they're so good.
Wonderful Menu.. Liked it .. Always busy ..
I tried Choolaah after hearing great things about it and i loved it the first time. The second time i got there was a hair in my food and although it grossed me out I decided to give it another try. The next time i ordered it I had hair in my food again! I really wanted to give it one more try because i really liked it the first time i had it. I went last night and my first bite had a hair on it. Very gross. The employees need to wear hair nets or something because i do not think it's a coincidence that the three times i went there was hair in my food. I did not eat anything that I ordered and i will not be going back.
Every time I try something new it's delicious
Wow....stopped here for lunch today and was treated like a vip. I was able to do a sample tasting as it was my first visit, and the food! Outstanding quality, flavor, presentation! They hit all the right notes..I will definitely be back and am sending all my friends. I loved enjoying some of my favorite flavors in a new place with a cool vibe. Outstanding service!
Very good food! The young man who served us (his name was Shawn/Sean) did such a fantastic job! He let us sample everything and was so kind, energetic, and helpful with explaining the menu. Would come back just based on that!
Took away the lava sauce. I had to take away a star. Update: service keeps getting worse. Employees are rude and intentionally put your order “to-go” when you clearly mention “for here”. Pictures taken 30 mins before close. Wish I could upload the video I took here. It’s sad because it used to be one of my favorite place in PGH.
Excellent food! The black dal is amazing.
They are basically kind of Indian style chipotle. I tried Paw Bhaji and lamb over rice bowl which were good. They have only halal lamb if you are looking for halal food.
it was so tasty. i look forward to going back again. the bill was average for the menu.
It is a lovely place and food is delicious.
Delicious food, love the Tikka Massala!
One of the coolest new fast casual places out there. Foods amazing and pretty authentic. All the while it's still a quick bit. Can't wait for more of them to open. Bring one to Kent!
Indian chipotle. But pricy but worth it!!
Veggies, paneer, and meats cooked in tandoori ovens you can see; Indian seasonings so flavorful...our favorite for lunch or dinner
Love the food, the ambience, friendly staff. The quality and taste of the food is always on point.
Love this place. Great meat and veggies. Curries are also tasty. Naan is delicious. We have received burnt naan once in a to go order but this hasn’t happened consistently.
Great concept of Indian meals in a bowl. The staff is fantastic. I ask a lot of questions and the staff was able to answer each one. They show their pride working at choolaah. It’s an inclusive environment. The food is really delicious. They can accommodate large groups easily.
Very good fast Indian food. The lamb wraps or bowl and paneer are my go to dishes.
It's alright. Menu is too confusing untill you understand it right. Food is too expensive too.
I love coming to this spot when I'm in town. Excellent tasting, fresh, and always friendly service. My favorite dish is the lamb meatballs with tikka masala. If you're in the area I highly recommend it!
Great way to get a quick Indian food fix. The hand washer in the lobby is pretty cool, careful with the add-ons, the price racks up fast.
My first time trying Choolaah! Absolutely recommend this place and will be revisiting. I had the chicken wrap and it was amazing So FULL of flavor. Yum.
Fast food Indian food Everything was really tasty and fresh. The design is modern, you can see everyone working in the kitchen from the dining area, which is kind of cool. We dis not necessarily like the design of the dining area though, it's kind of cold, no color and dark unlike Indian culture. Naan is made fresh, and the proteins are high quality. To sum up, we think that the price/quality is somehow high, but definitely worth trying
Good. Its clean, they keep wipes out.
First time there! Very great and fast service
Nice Indian restaurant. Inside is open and stylish. Spicy tandoori chicken with pleasant-smelling roasting aroma is amazing! I've never eaten such a tasty tandoori chicken ever before. Garnished baked cauliflower is also awesome. I've never paid so much attention to cauliflower before, but their baked cauliflowers made me realize how tasty cauliflower is!
Great service and authentic food. I am vegan and gluten free so being able to eat here was very nice and stress-free.
I wanted to love Choolaah Indian BBQ, but it missed the mark on several points. First, the price- plain and simple, they are overpriced. Next, cleanliness- they open at 11; I arrived at 11:30. The floor was greasy and slippery throughout the restaurant, including the restroom. Also, services- the paper towel dispensers are problematic. They seem to know this as they've posted stickers staying that it's a gamble as to whether you'll get paper towels from their dispensers. Finally, sustainably- they empathize how clean and responsible their food is, but rather than composing waste, it all goes to the landfill. That being said, there were several positive points. There isn't another food joint like this in Pittsburgh. It's fast, Indian-ish food. The kitchen is behind a glass wall, so you can watch everything being made, and something really unique in eateries, there a hand washing station in the dining area. Choolaah Indian BBQ probably can't ever get 5 stars in my book, but they could easily pay attention to details and get one or two more.
Great tasting Indian food at an appropriate price. Served quickly in a good atmosphere without sacrificing taste or quality. I only wish they had a location on Cleveland's West Side.
I really like the Tikka Masala Chicken Bowl and I've come back for it several times. It's a little pricey compared to the average Indian place I think. Some might argue that it isn't "authentic" as it isn't really your traditional Indian food joint, but that doesn't mean it isn't good!
Food was pretty good. Store was clean and empty at 1 PM. Single portion lunch, pricey (overhead), cost me $14.00. Good service! But I was one of 4 or 5 patrons. I've had my one and only Choolah experience.
Yummy tasting fast food.
Food was pretty good and the atmosphere was really cool!
Loved this place. We made a pit stop here after a 4 hour drive and it was just off the highway (I 271, Beachwood, OH). The place was cozy. There are vegetarian and vegan options. There's a kids menu as well. The food came out fast and more importantly, it was yummy. The Tikka masala and yellow dal was very good. And they have different hot sauces to spice up the food! The ambience was lovely. All in all, I can see why the place was so highly rated!
My favorite place for fast healthy food.
Good taste and quick service !
A unique Indian restaurant! The first thing I mentioned is the ambience, Indian restaurants are not know for it, but here it’s awesome. Malai kulfi is a must!
Wow! Looking for something different? This is the place to go! Fast fresh and delicious!
Good quality, goid taste and good price, self service
I love Choolaah. Since raising their prices I’ve been there a little less but it is delicious every time I go.
I absolutely love Choolah in Beachwood, food comes out tasty and hot everytime. Never have to wait more than 10 minutes for food even when they are slammed. Super friendly employees and very clean restaurant
Unique concept. Pricey and food proportions are small.
Great food! So many different options for many dietary preferences. You will find something you like. Food is not overly spicy.
I used to like this place till today. I went to order and one of the managers was so rude I left without ordering. You can be rest assured I will never eat there again.
Wow! Great food at a great price. Very clean as well, and most importantly, fresh food and great staff. Parking is what it is...less than ideal at times. Adding this to the weekly rotation...
Good food at reasonable rate. Plenty of space.Open space.Good for family
Though this is americanized version of indian food, i love the fact that the food tastes exactly the same every time i visit here. Great menu. The non veg protien choices are little over priced but it tastes delicious. Pav bhaji is just amazing. You will lover every item on the menu, no doubt!!! Must visit if you are in Pittsburgh or in King of Prussia!!!
Tasty food and great service
Wonderful food, wish there were some sauces that weren't spicy at all though.
The food tastes as delicious as it smells!
Although arrangement of the ingredients is non-traditional, the ingredients themselves are excellent. The lamb is very tasty; the paneer is decent; the chicken is above average. Fresh naan is delicious. Downside = expensive.
Great flavourful food. Fast service. Exceptionally clean. You can view the cooking area and ovens while waiting if you wish. FYI ...to easily exit the parking lot go down the west side of the building and take the short drive to the right out to the access road and stoplight
Amazing Indian fast food place
The food here is not to please indians who come from southern part as its too americanised
Really good and super friendly staff. Just visiting Pittsburgh, so I'm sad that we don't have this on the west coast, I'd come here regularly.
Chicken and paneer were decent. The chutneys were even better.
Great food! I would recommend this place, most definitely. If you're in the mood for something different, this is the place. The cashier was very friendly and helpful with the menu selections. There was only one thing that I was a little disappointed with, and it was the naan was burnt. This is a great, healthy alternative to American fast-food.
Choolah India bbq is the fast food of Indian food. However it doesn't have the typical fast food taste ie oily, greasy, salty. The food is very tasty and well seasoned. I deducted one star since there have been a a couple of times my order has been messed up, and most recently their online ordering has been very glitchy.
First time ever being here! When I say I fully enjoyed the experience overall. Sonya was super helpful and so polite also Alex was too! Super nice people. Best customer service!!!
the entire staff at choolaah was so warm, pleasant, and welcoming (in particular the cashier Sean). The food was so authentic and delicious with plenty of vegan/vegetarian options. Will definitely be coming back.
This was my first ever visit to Cleveland,OH and happened to try Choolaah for lunch. My first impression when I stepped into the place, I felt Wow! looking at the ambience , the interiors, the glass kitchen, the crew, the crowd and the whole setup is extraordinary. Next comes to the food. I liked the menu options. The quantity of the meal served is just right. The food tasted extremely delicious and my mouth filled with flavors. I am from Texas where we have ample Indian food choices but I have to agree that I haven’t eat such a tasteful Indian food in a fast food restaurant style place in a long time. Everything I ate here was awesome and the quality of food served is really rich. We stayed here in Cleveland Solon area for a week and every single day for lunch we visited this place and everyday we thoroughly enjoyed the food. I loved their sauces sply the spicy mango one. I tried the chicken, salmon, lamb and veg protein options and every single thing is 10/10. I would love to see they open more restaurants in other places as well and definitely soon one in Texas. Totally impressed
Staff is great. Food is delicious, though it can definitely be more spicey
Choolaah was really nice street food. No presenting as anything more than commercialized Indian food. The food was really good! I had the chicken wrap on naan bread & it was scrumptious! My wife had the balanced bowl with chicken & she said it was pretty good. One thing, the mango lassi had a bit of an unpleasant aftertaste, but my wife ordered her mint ginger lemonade which was really good.
Over prices for sub-par "Indian" food. Better off just going to a local sit down Indian restaurant.
Pleasantly surprised! Food was great! Service was quick and friendly. Flavors were rich and portions were generous. Heat level was on the mild side which is perfect it this is your first foray into Indian food.
Very bad Coustmer service Not enough food for meal and the money is high
I've been wanting to try this place for some time now. I decided to order the Perfect Balance bowl which came with half brown rice, half roasted vegetables, Tikka masala sauce, and 3 lamb meatballs. You can choose a different protein if you desire. I got a naan with it. For my drink, mint ginger lemonade. Delicious, hands down!! It is a bit pricy but, well worth it.
I loved this place, but almost took off a star for the music volume. It was really hard to hear each other.
Indian Light...the flavors on just about everything but the lamb fall flat, the masala is lack luster, chicken grilled but the marinade and flavor to be desired. The Samosas...again just okay...and sauce you guessed it...just ehh. Whole wheat naan was a nice surprise and not bad. It looks so nice and shinny...wish they delivered the flavor. Whomp whomp.
That's not regular place to eat traditional Indian food. It's a new way of serving. They do it their own way. I liked interior, open kitchen, simple menu, cleanness, and taste of food. Recommend to visit it, but avoid rush hour.
Very good indian urban food. Like to go there with my whole family - the kids love the rice bowl with grilled vegetables. Service is very friendly.
this restaurant is great for people that like indian food that is not too spicy. if you wanted to try something new this is great. my favorite thing to get is a chicken wrap, all the chicken, naan, onions go so well together. kid friendly. staff are super nice and the vibe is great. over all this place is amazing. keep up the good work!!!!
This place is amazing! As others have said, it is Americanized Indian food, so it is not spicy, but it is hearty and delicious and the chicken just melts when you bite into it. We got the Chicken Pro Bowls and mixed in Yellow Dal and Basmati rice and it was fantastic. Also the Chickpea wrap is phenomenal. I don't love the flavor of the hot sauce, but the spicy mango sauce and the Tamarind Apple sauce are incredible. I highly recommend everyone try this place.
This place is very good. Cool space, good food, quick service, good menu. The food is some sort of spin on Indian food, whatever it is it's very good. I'm a big fan of Indian food and this stuff is tasty. The food comes out pretty fast and the wait isn't too long. And while you wait you get a nice room with super tall ceilings and a stack of books to match.
Refreshing ambience, especially for an Indian cuisine eatery. Liked the fast food format. Rather than calling it Indian Fast Food, I would say, Indian Food - Fast. Food was delicious, sumptuous and clean. Loved it.
Good food, not cheap for that small dish They increased their price recently and decreased their quantity
A great local eatery with generous, delicious and well-balanced tandoori-style portions.
Great concept. Chipotle watch out!
Had dinner at this place during a travel. Situated at a convenient place and very spacious. This is more of a fast food kind of place to pay first and get the order served later. The Nan wrap was very good but the tikka masala was a lil high on the tangy side which was overpowering. Other than that the food tasted good. The kebabs were cooked right, crispy outside and juicy inside. There weren’t much options for desserts though. Definitely a good place to dine.
Such an unexpected surprise. Fun decor, friendly staff and oh the food was stunning. The ingredients were fresh, well seasoned and prepared with love.
The bowls and wraps are awesome!! Very tasty food. This restaurant seems to be a fusion of Indian spices and western concepts like bowls and wraps. Overall it looks like an Indian version of Chipotle restaurant but only much better. Ambience is nice. Hand wash jacuzzi is worth trying. Kids also liked the food very much.
Loved it in the past but now that they new menu. You are not able to substitute masala for rice. Neither manager or staff are friendly. Probably will not return.
I love, love , love this place. Awesome food
I was sorely disappointed, to say the least. The good: my dad and my wife (both vegetarians) were satisfied with their food. Now, the bad. First, their web site wouldn’t let me order online - some cryptic nonsense about the online order system currently being “non-operational” or some such. So we had to drive over to the restaurant and wait for takeout. Second, my order tasted terrible - the lamb was burned black, the brown rice was undercooked and the spicing was incredibly uneven. Just really disappointing overall. I know I’m not going back any time soon...
Have been to this place 4-5 times in the past year.Always consistent in taste ..Make your own bowl type of deal... Pav Bhaji and Mint lemonade are top picks ..Paneer with Tikka masala is a delight for veggie foodies..Samosas are unorthodox style...overall a different dining experience for the Pitt community..Would recommend them with new branches across the city, which need not be the same size as their Centre Ave location. Just a To-go corner would be a hit. Covered Parking is free for first 45 mins in the Annie place facility beside the restaurant.
Fusion of serving Indian likely taste in American style. Taste is good, ambience is also great.Only self service is available.staff is freindly , they will help you to choose the combination you like.
For a lack of better words it is sort of Indian cuisine in a fast food format. Order at the counter get a buzzer and usually no longer than a minute later you're food is ready to be picked up. Dine in or take out. Very tasty.
Pretty darn good for a chain place. Not quite as authentic, but tasty nonetheless.
Loved it. Different way of Indian food
Nice food and not too hot so good to give a try. For me it is now a to go place.
Delicious food as always and very quick service.
I had the paneer bowl. It was simply mind-blowing. Close to Indian Chipotle. You can put unlimited mint yogurt and other sauces ( spicy to sweet ). A must visit to this place if you are in Pittsburgh.
Decent food. Excellent ambiance
Delicious as usual! Try the Naan!
Good food, cool place, I love the bread it's amazing.
The food is really great but they increased the price.
Amazing food love the chicken bowl!
Pav Bhaji is saving my life while I am recovering from the flu. Thanks Choolah!
Delicious food. Prompt Service. Friends liked the food when I ordered for lunch on New Year's Day
Felt like a home food... Delicious test
I liked the variety that lets you choose protein, sauce, etc. Savory.
Hands down the best Indian food in Cleveland. The service is swift, but don't let this fool you, the quality is immaculate. The experience begins right after ordering but before your food arrives. As you walk into the seating area, you pass the kitchen which is visible through high glass walls allowing you to see the process of smoking of the main food dishes in these grand vats. It is a sumptuous sight and inevitably prompts a gulp. The food itself is delightfully prepared and compares reasonably to restaurants I've frequented in resort hotels in India! Perfectly textured with naan that dreams are made of, I can't stop gushing about this place. You know it's good Indian food when you look around and several legions of Indian families are waiting in line. A friend told me of this gem several months ago but didn't physically take me there. I consider his lackadaisical recommendation of this establishment a grave sin on his part and will never speak to him again for denying me what undeniably would have been many many Choolaah meals.
Amazing food, amazing service
I've been there twice and both times the food was really good, service was fast and it was clean. Parking can be tight.
Incredibly consistent and piping hot every time I go. It's never been so busy that it has taken a long time for me to get my food. The Paneer Wrap and the Mint Ginger Lemonade are my favorites. Definitely a place you can keep coming back to on the regular! The Samosa Chaat and the Paneer Perfect Balance Bowl with Tikka Masala and a side of Naan are pictured below.
I gave two stars for the service and the decorations. If I rated this resturant two months ago I would definitely give 5 stars, but since they changed their menu I’m no longer a continuous customer. They took off my best meal the chicken biriany. Sadly!
Food balanced in calorirs
Perfect fusion of Indian food in American style
Loved the paneer bowl with veggies. Samosas were great too. Fast service.
Healthy food. Fast
I've done takeout a couple of times and that's super convenient with scheduled pickup times and convenient parking nearby. Limited but fairly unique items on the menu for Indian fare.
What can I say about Coolaah. It's the perfect excecution of Indian as fast casual. The food is incredibly flavorful and so quick. I can't get enough of the yellow lental with the Perfect Balance bowl. Every little detail around the restaurant is so thoughtful I can't wait for this to be the next Chipotle.
This place is not authentic per se, but it is tasty. I have been to dozens of Indian cuisines and this doesn't match up to good quality and flavor of most authentic Indian Restaurants. It is tasty, but not very spicy. Masala means spice and this it's more mild and tame. It is a great introduction to Indian Food though. The place is upbeat, modern and enjoyable place to grab lunch or dinner. Recommended.
Loved the sauce bar. The paneer was especially good.
As someone who works right up the street from Choolah, I couldn't be happier. I go in 1-2 times a week and the food is always so good. The chicken is full of flavor and is very juicy, the rice is cooked great, the Naan always has a great unique taste and the tikka sauce gives a great flavor. The staff is also super kind and very helpful. Even when they are busy it always sounds like they are supporting each other to make sure things get done correctly. In particular one employee, Alexis, is always very kind to everyone and always looks busy making sure things run efficiently. If you are looking for great food with a wonderful staff to back that, Choolah is the place.
Great food and it is very authentic! It's never too crowded or too loud. There are obviously many vegetarian and gluten free options. The Naan is not one to miss.
A little pricey but the food is always delicious
I found choolaah Indian BBQ on ubereats the lamb build your own bowl was really good and the naan bread and chicken wrap was delicious I ordered twice already keep up the good work
A very good place to eat. Food is tasty, service is quick, prices are great, and the place is clean and neat
I am in love with this place - the food is delicious, the employees so friendly and just happy to be there to serve you and the ambience and decor! It is not so,etching you would expect to see when it come stop a Indian restaurant. The open concept kitchen where you look through glass windows to see the giant tandoors cooking the food on long skewers, the naans being stretched, baked and fished out of the ovens; the fridges with glass doors showing big tubs of ingredients ready to be cooked. If you’ve never tried Indian cuisine and have always been apprehensive, give this place a try. I guarantee you will also fall in love. They provide samples of their lemonades and masala sauces to try. Their side dishes are the perfect size for trying something new or even sharing! They have three levels of hot sauces for those with a spicy tongue. Coriander yogurt an mango chutneys compliment the food. We ordered the Choola bowl with the chicken and masala sauce and got extra protein of paneer. Wow, I’ve never had such huge cubes of paneer before. And they are made in house and literally are so fresh that you can taste it!!! We also ordered the lamb meatballs (to die for!) which are perfectly spiced and seasoned. Honestly the best lamb meatballs I’ve ever had _ juicy and not at all gamey.the garlic naan is just garlic naan - no explanation required. We also ordered the samosas which were just a flavour explosion. It felt like we were eating street food in India! The mango lassi is thick and delicious. The ice tea/lemonade come with free refills. And let’s talk about the decor for a moment. The industrial look is just cool. Totally unexpected but in a great way. Th place is just so cool and welcoming. The main eye candy is this long communal table which seats about 20 people. It it made with a plank of wood and a lot of cookbooks glued together and varnished onto the wood. It is a commissioned piece and there’s. a beautiful story behind it. Ask one of the employees. I wonder if there’s a piece like that every location - which I found out there are 4 others of (in PA and VA). And did I mention the space age hand washing machines? So cool it made the kids want to wash their hands. It is more eco friendly as it uses less water than the regular sink. How it works is that a fine spray of warmish water spins around where you insert your hands into. It does this for 12 seconds - no soap needed, and your hands are clean! I noticed they had this in their food prep area in the kitchen as well. So convenient! I’ll most likely be returning during our visit to Cleveland as we don’t have anything like this in Toronto. The owners definitely designed their restaurant concept with their end users in mind - potential customers who might be intimidated with dipping their toes in to the Indian Cuisine. I can totally see that as the complexity of the spices and flavours can be quite overwhelming for newbies. Well done, Choola. We are proud of you and your work!!!
Choolaah Indian Barbecue is one of the best places where you get Indian food in a very short span, if you dying due to hunger. Good in taste, it has machinery to make tandori roti. There menu is different and decent as they take care of the heathy nutrients, protein needed in a meal. You will have option to decide what you need in your plate. Ambience is good, self service but very quick, food is awesome. I liked most the mango kulfi. Do try it there.
Modern spin on traditional Indian food! Very good!
We have frequently visited Choolah ever since they opened. They have completely changed the way they cook the vegetables and that threw the entire meal off. The vegetables are mushy and no longer cooked in the tandoori ovens. I’m not sure we will ever be back unless the menu reverts back to normal. Why change perfection?
Genius idea - pizza for kids, means parents can enjoy the excellent mostly vegetarian menu.
Even though the poorly packaged containers of tikka Marsala sauce spilled all over my car trunk and it will probably smell like puke the next year, I still love Choolaah, 5 stars!
The service & food was amazing! I ordered the roasted veggies with the Choolaah salad with ginger dressing and wheat bread. Everything was seasoned to perfection and so fresh tasting. It was presented well too. I will go back!
Great place, paav bhaji tasted best.
Great food. Friendly staff. Fast service. Clean and pleasant
Good food. Ordered a chicken choolaah bowl but got paneer instead. They added an order of chicken, no big deal. I actually liked the paneer better. Probably because I'm edging away more and more from meat. Had it with tikka masala and mango spicy sauce. Ordered the yellow daal as well which was tasty along with naan. Kind of far from me, so a nice treat.
Decent Indian food. Disappointed that they only had Chicken and Vegetable briyanis. This is a good place for getting a quick and easy Indian fix. Parking can be limited around this area for dinner.
Great casual dining place. Spacious and clean. The food is delicious without being too spicy or greasy.
Always good! They check your food bag before you leave to ensure the order is correct. What else can you ask for?
This place was like chipotle and Indian food had a baby. We thought we were walking into a restaurant but were pleasantly surprised. Our server Shawn was AMAZING in helping us with the menu and he let us try samples to figure out what we liked best. Great service.
Why didnt I try this place sooner?!? I couldn't decide so they let me try the sauces...made it so.much.harder! Really fun/cool atmosphere, great food, pretty good prices. We are going back next week!
The Chef at the counter was very helpful in guiding our way through the menu. Food is great. If its your first time there start off simple, then venture out. Also a great place for those who don't eat meat.
We love their food, super fast clean organic food. My personal favorite is the perfectly balanced tiki marsala bowl. Great Indian BBQ with a friendly staff.
Excellent food and friendly staff. The lentil Daal was perfect.
This place is really awesome. Taste remembered INDIA. Gives you nostalgia. Indian food lovers have to try this for dammmmm.
Best Indian food around. Wish they would open up some places on the westside of North East ohio
The paneer wrap, plus the samosa chaat and pav bhaaji were really good. A large variety of Indian sauces to try from of various spiciness levels. The concept was very similar to of Chipotle, but for Indian food.
Loved the environment and food. A must try Indian fusion place in the Pittsburgh area. Tried: 1. Choolah Rice Bowl with Tikka Masala/Paneer 2. Paneer Wrap 3. Somosa Chaat 4. Pav Bhaji 5. Naan (Very good with black sesame seeds garnishing) Extremely delighted with the vibes around the place like the lighting, posters and art work. Each and every small things are taken care with a great detailing.
I love the food and great service
Always enjoy this place.
Good food. Nice people. A lil slow, but that's my perception since I was in a hurry. Will eat there again.
A Simple Indian menu made Very complicated and confusing. This is misleading the people who come to taste authentic India cuisine and end up getting a Cheap version of Chipotle styles Indian food and that too served cold. Please change the menu style or change the name from calling it "Choolah" that holds Indian value and taste
A very busy Sunday evening, the restaurant was short-staffed. Cleaniliness took a backseat. Condiments counters were messed and unclean. On the positive side, food was delicious and worth everybit. Mango lassi and wheat nan were sadly not available. Samosa chaat ran dry with scant amount of chickpea gravy. Overall a must visit for the food.
Amazing place! Great atmosphere, the food is packed with flavor, and the people are so nice!
Below is my review I left on GrubHub, ordering through GrubHub One out of two items was completely wrong the other was partially wrong. I called the restaurant, they didn't pick up the phone. GrubHub customer service refunded me the item that was completely incorrect ( I didn't know the other was incorrect at the time I called). However the purpose not using GrubHub is to get a meal without much effort. Considering the poor GrubHub customer service and lack of support from the restaurant, this was a complete failure in that regard. So bc of dietary issues we still had to make food and didn't get refunded for any costs besides the one incorrect meal. So I got an overpriced meal with none of the benefit of ordering out. Thanks for nothing GrubHub and Choolaah The food was good, would give it a 4/5
Unique food and always a great experience.
The Hope less restaurant Serve Cold instead hot Indian snacks items quality Very Poor. Never visit again
Wow!
Not impressed. Too expensive for serving size. I felt nauseous after I finished eating.
Excellent food excellent atmosphere and I'm happy with most of the prices
Food is tasty & quick and it has a cool interior. But I can't give the 5 stars becasue the menu prices up to the point when you also get a drink with your meal I can't justify comming back often as a fast casual option and the parking lot at lunchtime is a zoo.
Good variety. Tasty food and nice ambiance
You really have to be there to believe it. Awesome food, amazing service! Reasonable prices.
