First time I went to a JL bear and I found it quite delicious. If you like beer and burgers this is an excellent place to go. Even if you don't like those things the chicken sandwich was good and they have 1919 rootbeer too.

I was traveling for work when I was advised to try JL beers. As a burger connoisseur, I have a very high expectation of what a good burger should be. JL met all the criteria. Both nights I had excellent burgers. The JL burger the first night, the chilli popper the second night. They cook it right in front of you, in a laid back atmosphere with good music playing in the background. The food is reasonably priced, with a variety of delicious beers. For someone who typically hates blue cheese, the buffalo blu cheese fries blew my mind! If I ever go to Sioux Falls again, this will be my spot for dinner! Do yourself a favor JL, bring one of your joints to Portland Maine, you'd pack the place every night. Thanks for the grub, Cheers!

We love this place not just for the food and great beer selection, but because the staff is extremely friendly and knows how to treat their customers. I came here almost every weekend when I lived there and I would visit Grand Forks just to come here again. Do yourself a favor and enjoy a burger and beer here.

It’s a bit of a packed space, so get there early if you have more than 2 people. The burgers are solid, but the fresh chips and fries are where is at. Pair that with a huge rotating beer list and this makes for a great spot to stop any day of the week.

Even in you aren't a beer lover, the atmosphere, food and staff make up for it. I blessed my life with the Not a Nutter Butter Burger (peanut butter & raspberry jelly with bacon and cheese) and my husband celebrated the day with a Rajun Cajun Burger. Also, the parm garlic fries are extra credit to your day. Add this to your bucket list.

This is one of my favorite places in town for a burger. It is a bit tight inside but the food is worth it. Service has always been positive. The last time I took my parents here, since they are from out of town, they gave them post cards to send to their friends. Great experience and would recommend.

Was in town for work and told to try this place out, I'm really glad I did. Has an extreme variety of different beer to choose from to fit all tastes, and the burger was phenomenal. I highly recommend giving it a try. Be aware though, the kitchen closes an hour before the bar

Burgers were great. But you know what really grinds my gears? They won't give you a glass of water with your meal. You have to purchase a 16 oz bottle of water for an absurd price. Who does this? I can easily go through three LARGE glasses of water during a meal. I had to down my salty burger and fries with a dry mouth because I didn't want to add $10 to my bill for WATER. The food was good, but I will never go back because of this.

Walked into JL Beers after wandering around the falls and downtown area, the gentleman at Duluth trading recommended coming in for the burgers Glad I listened to him, I ordered the classic burger with chips and the beer cheese dip, WOW Make sure to come in and have a frosty beverage and a bite this place is legit and inexpensiveX Burgers are $4-$6 and taste fantastic, check out the grill in my photos I would definitely come back here when in town Bottoms up

JL Beers had a really nice selection of craft beers! I did not eat there so I'm not sure how the food tasted, but it looked good while it was on its way to other tables. They were very busy when I visited (Saturday evening), but service was really slow. I will still definitely return though, because everything else was phenomenal. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for some tasty craft beers.

This is a really great bar!!!! It is like a small town bar. The music is always awesome as is their food. They are very knowledgeable about their beers and will let you taste as many as you need too. You can also get growlers and giant cans for home or gifts. Service is always great and friendly even when they are swamped!

What's there to say? They have a whole lot of good beers on tap AND they make peanut butter. Friendly staff that knows their beers. I made my own flight of sours, I believe they had five on tap. Many other craft beers as well. Highly recommended.

It's not a burger that I would drive across town to eat at. I do have a complaint with the menu though. They charge for extras such as jalapenos, onions and lettuce. Yes, they charge .49 cents to add a pinch of shredded lettuce to your burger.

Have you ever seen that Seinfeld episode where they wanted to get that amazing soup, but they had to go through the soup nazi to get it? JL Beers is our hometown's version of that. Excellent food, lackluster service; that seems to be the common theme among the 1-star reviews. I've eaten there five times and only once did I get a server who didn't make me feel unwelcome. I've served in the food industry plenty, so I definitely feel for the servers, but they take rudeness to a new level. Plus the stories the reviews tell about JL Beers charging for water are true. Sad to say I've spent my last dollar here.

This is just an inviting place. Smaller size, but great atmosphere. Had their cheddarpeno burger with fresh cut/made fries and tasty parmesan/garlic soft pretzel. For now it appears you'll need to visit North Dakota though to try it out.

Great place to go and try new beers. Food is fantastic. Nice place to hangout between rushes. I wouldn't recommend lunch or dinner. It gets packed very quickly.

It seems as if they always get something wrong with the order. Green tomatoes on the burger. No salt on the fries. No greetings upon sitting down. Not even a smile. This was our last visit to this establishment. 3 strikes and they're out.

Great dive bar style burgers. MUST GET THE CHIPS with any sort of flavoring on them. The beers were also pretty decent and our service was outstanding! We tried a handful of beers, each, before finding one that we wanted to have a full glass of. The server was determined to help us find something we really enjoyed with a great attitude! The prices were good as well. After telling some locals we went here for dinner they also recommended the pretzels! They had a great mix of music on and a decent atmosphere for a Friday night with a group. I also liked being able to see in to the brew room near the back. Overall, unexpectedly great spot!

My burger and beer were both amazing. The beer cheese was really good, and the atmosphere was very relaxed. The service was pretty good too. The only downside was that the fries were in super small pieces, but that probably works best for drunk people eating them by the fist-full. They also send postcards for you, which is how I send all my mail.

Great drink selection, and the burgers are incredible! They have a variety of fries to choose from; recommend the Cajun style if you like that. They also do "beer mail": they give you a post card, you can fill it out, and they'll send it to the address you put. Pretty fun, especially if you're just visiting town! The space is nice; hole-in-the-wall bar with not-too-crowded seating at booths, tables, high-tops, and the bar. The waiters are knowledgeable on the beer menu and can recommend a good brew if you're looking for something new.

Wonderful place for burgers and beer. Great list of micro and local brews. Their burgers are incredible and their home made chips even better! Try the burger with peanut butter on it. I was skeptical but now I am a beleiver! If you are staying in downtown it is a short walk up Phillips street and you can enjoy the public art along the way. Overall a wonderful place.

They serve burgers til 11p. The burgers are delicious, but definitely try the made on site fresh chips or fries. This is a place willing to accomodate and customize. The person I was with ordered a burger without a bun and asked for eggs to act as the bun:1 on top and one on bottom. They did that and served the burger with a fork and knife. He raved about the coleslaw too.

Burgers are not cooked by hand, always done medium well under a timed press. Great flavor but everything was dry. They stated that they salted their own first with sea salt to order, so I figured it wouldn't be hard to salt my order lightly. Received the saltiest fries I'd ever eaten. Other than that, the service was good, and the atmosphere was loud but pleasent.
