REVIEWS OF Vin Rouge IN North Carolina

There are so many little delightful things about Vin Rouge that shot it to the top of my ratings chart - its ambiance is cozy and charming; with a reservation, you're seated immediately upon arrival; window tables face out on the adorable patio and herb planters. The service is as attentive and skilled as you'd expect from a highly-rated French restaurant. I love it here.

Steve Wells

Excellent restaurant with high standards and good food. Bartender was especially good. He checked glasses before pouring a drink to ensure they met his standard. It's that kind of place. High standards, great food and good service.

Ann Quirk

Always delicious food!

MA eatNtour

Great Food & Service, even at the Bar.

Mario Borgnia

The place is nice, food is quite good and the selection of wines quite wide. Had a get time there.

Joel Lieberman

Hosted a private party for 36 people in the back room. Everything was perfect! Delicious hors d'oeuvres, wonderful staff... I'm so happy we chose Vin Rouge.

Philip Matthews

Good food, good service, nice atmosphere

Michelle Brenner

Best swordfish I've ever had

Mary Breeze

The food was delicious and the surface was superb. We were there for an after wedding brunch. It's certainly met all of our expectations.

Cannot get inside without reservation, and outside is too hot to eat. Terrible experience...

Bob Nooney

Great french onion soup and steak

chris sullivan

Great service as well as great food! I ordered the NY Strip steak frittes plate and was impressed with the size of cut as well as the flavor. The bread and olive tempenada is excellent as well

Ken Simons

Environment undergirds most experiences, and the surroundings, the mindset, and the vibe of Vin Rouge delivers a mood and expectations of enjoyment and good things. Happily, service and food meet and exceed the expectations consistently and powerfully. Over the course of many years, singly, on dates, and with family and friends I've enjoyed Vin Rouge's solid dishes and relaxed sorroundings. Looking forward to a return visit even as I sit here in the restaurant at the end of an excellent brunch, and would recommend highly if you have never been here, or not enjoyed their special brand of hospitality and service recently.

Leslie Filko

Charming, excellent food, very affordable brunch!

HartBoyz Legend

Food was great. Mac and cheese, bread pudding delicious. Service was excellent. Waiter very friendly and knowledgeable of menu

Oru The Infinite

Delicious food and spot on service. Pricey, but expected for a high class joint. But I have to wonder: WHY in the world was COUNTRY music playing? Shattered the initial impression of the place into pieces.

Katherine Perkins

This is our favorite restaurant in the whole area. My husband and I love it. We have great memories and and great food and great service. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The food is delicious and the ambience is perfect for date night. Michelle is an incredible server and helpful and so considerate. We will return soon.

Mariora Texier

Love this restaurant! So many delicious options it's hard to choose. My brunch favorites are either the Hangar Steak or Eggs Oscar.

Warren W

Hanger steak is very, very good, I've had it on multiple occasions. We shared the carmaelized onion and goat cheese tart, and she had the croque madame. Took the girlfriend here for the amazing food and the romantic atmosphere.

Joseph Caruth

Great food decent prices, loud though. Service can be spotty at times.

smarty like maddie dude

Omg dont miss out on this treasure!! Delicious fiod & wine! The best night out ive had in awhile

Samantha P

My dad and I came here on New Years Eve to order a drink, a busy night for the bar I am sure, however had we been acknowledged within the first 8 minutes of seating we would have been much more understanding. We finally ordered our drinks, I a cocktail and my dad a glass of wine. I received my drink after a few minutes wait however the wine never came. I’m sure the bartender forgot the wine, and we would have been happy to politely remind him again, had he made any effort or semblance of eye contact. Eventually another employee stepped in to help and we were able to pay for the one drink and leave. Did not get a chance to try the food but that aspect looked and smelled fabulous.

Michael Fogle

Quaint, intimate atmosphere. Dishes are top notch. I had the Cote de Porc (bone-in pork chop) and wife had the rotisserie chicken - everything, including the side vegetables and sauces, was delicious. Portions were just right. Wait staff friendly, well-informed, and helpful, especially with translating menu items from French.

Tasha Nilsen

You must try the sweetbreads. The oysters gratinee are decadent and the goat cheese and caramelized tart was sumptuous. The service was perfect and the decor made me feel like I was in France.

Matthew Dickerson

Quality Food, Amazing Service. Pricey

We've lived in the Triangle for 14 years, and this is hands down the best French restaurant we've experienced. My wife has traveled France extensively, and we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary there with two dear friends who lived outside of Grenoble. First, Vin Rouge has an excellent by-the-glass and by the bottle wine list. The waiter will even split the glass between your fellow diner and you, making it enjoyable to do your own pairings for each course. The baked oyster appetizer, topped with perfectly browned gruyere was delicious, as was the goat cheese and caramelized onion tart. For the main courses we had the striped bass and the bouillabaise. Again, both prepared to perfection. For dessert, the Belgian chocolate mousse. A little dense, but a great way to end the meal. Service was great; really enjoyable atmosphere for our 27th anniversary. And if you love seafood with that southern France touch, this is the place for you! If you're looking for a bistro experience, they have that, too, in the outside dining area. But if you're looking for a fine dining experience, this is it.

Harald Ade

Very nice atmosphere. Indeed gives you a feeling once inside of being transported to some place in France. Oysters were great. Sweetbread appetizer was great (particularly the greens on the side). Main dish also very solid with suprisingly large portions. Almost 5 stars. Will go back to double check on it.

Karen DiPierro

Always great food and service.

Hans Rasmussen

Fresh bread, olive infused oil and tap water. The oil makes up for the water. Followed by escargot cooked to perfection and bouillabaisse. Fantastic meal!!!

Jamey Chapman

A very romantic, intimate setting :) the landscaping was awesome

Anissa Hester

Such a great place and atmosphere. We were recently here for a Wedding Reception and the staff was so accommodating and nice. They were very professional and always made us feel comfortable. We can never thank the staff enough for all they did.

Jason Richmond

Ate here before going to see Phantom of the Opera at DPAC. A lovely combination. Can't remember the exact dishes I ordered, but definitely tastiest meal I'd had in months.

Jea Hyun Kim

Visited here for brunch and we were lucky enough to find an empty table as the place was already crowded. We were surprised to find out that brunch menus were on average $10-15, and ordered the hanger steak, french toast, and egg benedict. Overall impeccable service, but unfortunately the food was average. Only thing that really stood out was the hanger steak which was very tender and seasoned nicely. Not sure if the food I got here was the best I've tried in Durham, but I would probably visit here occasionally for casual brunch/dinner.

Mike Cook

Food was delicious as always. Waiter disappeared for quite a while in the middle of dinner, but otherwise great service

Sherry L

Delicious! And great service!

Marianne Howell Wright

I love Vin Rouge! It's casual but feels sophisticated, you can't go wrong with mussels and frites or bouillabaisse. When we went last week it was Tuesday night and it was dollar oysters. The oysters were salty from Harkers Island. They were farmed oysters so the shells were thinner and the oysters large and plump I think I'll go back on a Tuesday again and just have Oysters and champagne, one of my favorite meals. The salads are are wonderful, be sure to share because they're huge. My husband loves the hanger steak. Vin Rouge has been in business for a very long time and has been consistent, comfortable, and one of my favorite restaurants.

Diane Johnson

I love the chicken liver pate and they have the best Croque Madame I've ever had (and I used to live in France!)

Jessie Dib

This place was delicious food and a cozy atmosphere. We ate the Oysters, Cheese Plate, Baby Lettuce Salad, traditional mussels, Pate and Steak Tartar that was WOW. For dessert we had the Crème brûlée and the Chocolate Mousse. Everything was yummy and the service was kind and on top of it. Highly recommend it.

Susan Montani

Love the brunch! Good food, interesting selection. Sometimes servers rude.

Lindsey Cartner

This place is overpriced for the quality of food, but maybe because there isn’t a lot of fine dining in Durham? I wasn’t impressed with my $30 steak frites. Additionally, they market themselves on a natural wine app but don’t have any (despite natural wine actually being really popular in France). I asked for a sulfite free wine, paid $80, and it turned out to have sulfites. I’m intolerant (but not allergic) so I had a delayed bad reaction. Waitress was lovely but not well informed on the menu or the wines. Pretty disappointed in the overall experience, we had high hopes.

jeanne cutler

Had a delicious meal here. Oysters were excellent. We have red snapper entree that was superb. Our waiter was terrific too.

Matt Johnson

Food is fantastic! Service was a little off last night, but the atmosphere and cuisine is great! Definitely worth a visit!

Kevin Flanagan

Good food but some service issues It was very busy, being Triangle Restaurant Week, my wife's food was not hot, even after sending it back. The dessert was lost for a bit. They did make it right on the bill however. I think it would be worth a try when less busy.

Todd Barker

My favorite place in Durham.

Elizabeth Steinberg

Great dinner tonight. Excellent service. Definitely save room for dessert.

nicolas Thenon

Very authentic atmosphere and really nice staff ! Food is also very good ! I recommend !

Jay ONeal

Incredible dining experience. We sat in the back, and ordered the hanger steak. The steak was absolutely fantastic. The server wa timely, and friendly. This was one of the best dining experiences I have had in the triangle. Enthusiastically recommend this place.

Siavash Nakhaee

Great food, great staff, romantic environment, and very expensive. Since it is a small restaurant, all my clothes smelled like fried food for a week afterwards.

Jared Pierce

Great atmosphere. Incredible food. Gracious staff.

Jolie Phelan

Amazing food and service. Can't wait to go again. You have to order the hanger steak!

Grant Goodman

Amazing food, amazing drinks, wonderful service.

Gail Westlin

Friendly staff. Quick service. Wonderful food.

Adrian Ilie

Great tasting food and amazing service.

zena alman

Service was awful, I've never seen it si slow. We ate 2 baskets of bread waiting for our food to come. My steak was then cold and undercooked but I didn't dare send it back ie I might not have eaten until the next day. My salad was good when it finally arrived. Despite it being a special occasion we didn't dare order dessert.

Thelma Gordon

One of my top spots for delicious french food. The staff was friendly and sociable. It has a great interior.

Jackie Leonard

Delicious entree and good service. Cozy french dining. Many friendly customers and servers.

Andrew Janiak

They do bistro classics, like steak frites, very well, with a nice wine list.

Joshua Macri

Easily the best dining experience I’ve had in Durham. It’s cozy and elegant but not pretentious. It feels alive. I limit myself to one glass of wine per year and the bartender picked a great one for me. My meal was fantastic. They had my favorite desert on hand and it was wonderful with the great coffee they have. I can’t remember the last time I was this pleased with a meal. The service was amazing as well. A large hardworking staff that kept smiles on even though they were clearly busy and working on a Sunday night. I’ll be back soon.

Brandon Brown

Excellent food, great staff

Sachindra Kumar

A little on the higher end but food was great, super busy so hard to get a place without reservation. They have an outdoor seating as well

Jenna Moore

Well worth the price! The food and wine ate unbelievable. The atmosphere is romantic and cozy. Service is impeccable. This might be my new go-to for anniversaries.

Alexandra Graham

Happy Hour deal is the best!!

Dianne Schultz

The Oysters Gratinee would be my feature if I were ever interviewed on "The Best Thing I Ever Ate"!

Jason Chamberlain

This is like having a window into Paris, but without the Parisian pretension. Our server was able to give us some great recommendations. My wife had the classic mussels and I had the filet special. As you would expect with French food, the sauces really made these amazing. I could make a meal of dipping bread in the sauce that the mussels came in. Every bite of my filet was as amazing as the first, and that is a rarity for most meals. We enjoyed the pate appetizer as well. Parking can be pretty tricky here. I ended up parking across the street by the Harris Teeter. However, that's not really a big deal. What is a big deal is how little you pay for what you get at Vin Rouge. We've lived in Cary for 16 years and have a few places we like for special meals. Now that we've tried Vin Rouge it's going to rocket to the top. It's certainly worth a 30 minute drive.

Meaghan McGrath

Vin Rouge is probably my favorite French restaurant in the Triangle area. A classic French menu with wonderful flavors and a great wine list to boot. The staff are kind and attentive. Dining in the evening here gives a nice warm, cozy ambiance that only adds to the experience.

Jessica Goldblum

The NY Strip was honestly one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. Perfectly seasoned, crusted, and topped with herbs and butter- I am still dreaming about it. And they give you a mountain of fries so you don’t have to share. Round off your meal with a scoop of the dark chocolate mousse- dreamy

Jonah Orr

The most consistent french food in Durham. This is an absolute favorite place for date nights, particularly with the prix fixe menu and dollar oysters on Tuesdays. The cocktails have some nice creativity and the wine menu is extensive and well curated. Very reasonably priced for the quality and the ambiance feels authentic.

Cody Martin

Delicious French food in a bistro style restaurant.

Leslie Lusca

Had a fantastic dinner here with my family. The service was very good, and our waiter was good about answering questions about the menu without being pushy about ordering suggestions. The food was excellent all around- everyone was pleased with their meals and desserts. The atmosphere was exactly what I expected - very much a French bistro.

Dan Latham

Food was great. Dining area/guests were too noisy. Service was generally good.

James R Burnham

Authentic French bistro ambiance, decor, menu and food. Discrete and professional service, expertly prepare dishes.

Kiran Greer

It was raining, so tables/diners were crowded indoors--so very, very noisy. and hard, almost impossible to converse. But the food was good--including the mussels for starters (and one entrée a beautiful whole calf's liver if you like), variety of salads. Had an odd Basque beer, which is hard to describe. The wine list looked comprehensive, as it should given the name of the place. We had a show, so had to skip dessert. Parking in front.

Katherine Harmon

One of my favorite restaurants in the area. The mussels & frites are fantastic.

S Hawks

Had a reservation but still had to wait because douches who were beyond finished with their meals were sitting around blabbing. The noise level here is insane. I could barely hear by kid right next to me. Also the kitchen is in full view. I made note of one of the chef's wearing jewelry. That's not very sanitary... their rating was 95 today though. Service was good though. Our waitress was very attentive. We went for brunch so we got french toast and the savory crepe of the day. The french toast was hard, dry, and dense. Not good. My crepe was decent. Tasted a bit like beef stew. Great texture but not a flavor I'm keen on. I may try coming back for dinner one day but I doubt it. Side note. They have the lintiest napkins of the face of the earth. Luckily I had a lint roller in the car :P

Sam Udriot

Fantastic French-style restaurant. One of my favorite locations in the Durham/Chapel Hill area. Amazing atmosphere (very much like France). I've never been disappointed by their duck confit!

Carla Cota

The ambience is romantic with an eclectic decor. The wine list is extensive if not expensive. Cute for date night. However, in my opinion the cusine is less French but more of an expression of an American chefs version of French food. Prepare your palate for a hybrid version.

T. Baker

Food was delicious. Service was great and did i mention food was delicious

Dan Morash

Great, classic French menu, well prepared and served.

Ben R

That was really good food. The end.

Finn Katz

French Bistro, well practiced, perhaps too well practiced. Predictably good.

Taylor Hall

Had a great meal! Went right as the restaurant opened at 5:30 and got sat right away. Best thing about getting there early is to take advantage of the 3 course meal for $25. Our server was fantastic and picked out some great dishes. We enjoyed every bite. The chicken pate, skirt steak and chocolate mousse were my favorites. Can't wait to go back and try another round!

Gary Deen

This is a treat. Great food. Take a lot of it home!

Jeremy Hile-Hoffer

Solid offering of French cuisine. Probably could have just put the menu in English. Service was good wine was good and I was close to giving 5 stars, but the food was not Wow, just good. Kind of funny our waitress struggled to pour wine, but was helpful selecting.

West Hubbard

Amazing french. Won't go wrong with Vin Rouge

Philip Murray

Still the best restaurant in Durham, Raleigh, and Chapel Hill.

Patrick Pless

Always fantastic service, food, and atmosphere. We've been here dozens of times and we've never been disappointed.

Lisa R

I love the decor and ambiance! Great French menu with lots of seafood. It's a tight space but feels like a place in France with the wood floors and red walls.

Andrew Chea

Good wine, good food, and decent location.

John Roevekamp

Vin Rouge is the premier fine bar/restaurant in the Durham area, based on a combination of atmosphere, location, service culture, deliciousness of menu, quality of wines and bar services, and price. We love the great times of quality and cheer we have had here over the years!

Lucy Haynes

Great food, awesome staff, lovely place! Had a Bridal shower brunch here and was very happy with my decision to host at Vin Rouge

Harley center

Lots of little gnats kinda disturbing. Otherwise good food and service.

Jeremy Springman

Maybe it was an off night. The bouillabaisse was awful but my wife's meal was good

beastClanEver YT

Great, fresh food. Nice ambiance. Can usu. get a reservation on short notice on Sundays for brunch. The seating is a bit tight, but still like to eat here. Never a problem with parking. Prefer this spot for brunch over another local Italian spot located downtown.

Jeff Jewett

Tuesday night $1 Oysters!

Cash Moni

Excellent!

Liliana Vinueza

Excellent service

leslie rodgers

Firstly, if you go on a Saturday or Sunday it is okay to park in the gravel parking lot to the left of the restaurant. I have always loved the ambiance of Vin Rouge. It is a great little spot for dates or family meals. I would recommend to make a reservation either a day or two head of time depending on the size of the party. Our waitress was quite attentive. The French onion soup is delicious. Vin Rouge is go for both dinner and Sunday brunch. However, this is not a budget diner. The final bill can be expensive. As far as the dress code, I've seen people dress up really nice and some in tee-shirt and jeans.

Mary Warren

Overall we had a really lovely evening. The service and atmosphere made up for some otherwise dismal food and beverage experiences. The cocktails were exceptional. The Gamay by the glass tasted vinegary - old and shouldn't have been served. Oysters were divine as were the octopus Bolognese and the sweetbreads. The country pate was fine though not anything to get excited about. My beef tournedos were crusted with so much salt they were practically inedible, truly disappointing. Whoever caramelized the creme brulee needs a lighter touch. It was scorched. We ordered a bottle of Piaugier Sablet Rose, which was light, crisp and refreshing. I have always loved this restaurant as it reminds me of my visits to France. Everyone has an off night. I just feel when you spend over $200 on dinner for 2 it ought to be perfect.

Sharon Baker

Brunch was excellent. Pommels frites we're perfect.

Heather Saunders

Had a tasty brunch reminiscent of France. The crepe of the day was delicious and my husband definitely enjoyed his croque madame. Would definitely go back.

Becky Johnson

Great food!

Daniel Bowman

Superb food, great atmosphere... It makes for a wonderful night out!

patrick nichols

Great food and excellent service from attentive wait staff. Only con is, it can get loud to the point you feel like you should be texting your dinner partner. Other than that, always a great experience, I recommend sitting in front of the kitchen area, if you like to see all the moving parts to a well run machine. Great date night location.

Pam Fleischer

Most recently there for a combined Mother’s Day/graduation brunch. Excellent fresh, quality French food. Every time I have been, I’ve walked away wanting to return. Nice atmosphere on the patio.

Woody Coley

The aromas upon arrival confirm that you are in a great restaurant.... with a full bistro menu, courteous table service, and dining rooms that allow conversation. A "go to" choice for a pleasant evening at prices that will bring you back.

Timothy

If you are looking for a special place in Durham, this is the place! It is truly a gem! The ambiance of this place is amazing. The food is so unique to the area. Date night worthy!

Megan Baker

We went for the 3 course meal special, as well as their oyster special. We had never been before, and had never had French cuisine before. Our server was so helpful. The food was delicious. I honestly don’t think we could have made a wrong choice on the menu but I loved what we chose. The wine, oysters, and all 3 courses were delicious. The service was fantastic. The atmosphere was wonderful. You don’t feel rushed at all, so the experience is just amazing. I’d go back tomorrow if I could!! I highly recommend this place!!

Jesse Locklear

Food was excluded and great service. We had a group of 10 tonight and everything was right! We had wonderful drinks, apps, dinner, and dessert!

Lance Smith

Fantastic as always. Definitely the best restaurant in Durham if not the triangle area. Highly recommend. The potato cheese dish appatizer by the way is enough for 5 people. And the bacon jam was phenomenal. Not really a single bad dish there that I have had to date. The only problem with the venue is tight quarters. There is really only one table in the whole place that give you room. But fun atmosphere and great food and wine selection. A must try for NC.

Sharon Campbell

Good Experience...service great and food was tasty. I was surprised at the portion sizes, much larger than anticipated. The fresh heirloom tomato salad was awesome and almost a meal into itself.

Robert Joines

We have never had a bad meal here. Perfect for any special occasion or just a quick bite on the way home. You won't forget the meal and prepare to be indulged. Escargot, fresh oysters, amazing mussels, sweet breads, and phenomenal dishes that shift with the seasons. You'll love it!

Isasc Pipkin

Nearby parking. Attentive staff. Fresh food. Nice bistro atmosphere. Prices high so ho yo early prefix menu. Wine selection very good.

Sarah Young

Great atmosphere! Super friendly staff! Totally on their game! Excellent service! Delicious Food and Drinks!!

James Goerke

I enjoyed the food but the space was a little tight. I might have preferred a table along the wall to minimize the staff/other guests walking around me.

Nicholas Patrick

the menu is hard to read if you are not familiar with french dishes, we had to rely pretty heavy on our waiter to explain what was what. Unfortunately no service in the restaurant otherwise we would have to of googled the menu! Other than that the food was amazing!

George Bang

This is our second time at Vin Rouge, and we can't wait to get back again. The weather was nice and we sat on the beautiful patio. The food was beyond reproach, service was exceptional and prices just right for the quality we were getting.

Andrey Zamanov

Really good very classy food with very good service. The menu is typically french and all is very nice. One small caveat is the place is smallish and the tables are close to each other.

Isabel Alencar

Very quaint place! Excellent food and excellent prices! Absolutely loved it.

Jim White

Excellent all around! Food, wine, service and atmosphere are great. A dining experience you'll enjoy.

Christopher Ray

I was at a French restaurant in Raleigh and the waiter said "Oh, you like French food, you should really try VIN Rouge." Enough said!

Shannon Hester

Valentine's day dinner! The food was excellent, the ambiance was great, our server was outstanding, and the sounds of old school Motown we're being played over the house speakers!!

Thomas Dominic

One of the best restaurants in the Triangle

Ryan McNeill

Great French food at an affordable price.

Anton de Zeeuw

Lovely and cosy fresh restaurant with good steaks and nice fish dishes. Both inside and covered outside seating. Friendly service. We came here to enjoy a nice steak and we're not disappoint. Recommended!

Juli

Fabulous food. Amazing atmosphere. I love sitting outside. Does remind me of Paris.

Amanda 1095

My favorite meals are eaten at Vin Rouge. You must try the Cotes De Porc! Outstanding!!!!

Eddy Shipman

Tuesdays are $1 oyster night, quite good on the half shell. Nice selection of French wine. The food has always been great. The bouliabase is excellent, just the right amount of Pernod. They work as a team and do it very well.

Jason Lazarus

One of my favorites but I’ve been a bit underwhelmed the last couple of times I’ve been. The food is still expertly cooked and delicious. The staff is courteous and professional. The interior is overdue for a facelift or at least a paint job. They could stand to eliminate 1-2 tables to have slightly more separation in between. I also felt a bit rushed because they wanted to turn the table when we didn’t want dessert.

George Xiang

Food was delicious, atmosphere was awesome, but the service was incredibly slow and lacking when we went.

Stacey Larson

The food was awesome, friendly staff from the moment we arrived. A little loud but can't be helped when the restaurant is packed. Roy Rice our server was amazing. He gave us history on the restaurant, hell with the selections. We will ask for him again. Thank you

Tony Armen

Not a big fan of French restaurants but this was really good. Highly recommend. Good filling meals well prepared and presented. Great wine list too.

Emerson Jakes

Delicious with nice atmosphere, though it did get pretty dark in there as the sun went down. They have lots of high quality meat served partially raw. Their mousse was the best dessert I've ever had. Expensive, but not overpriced for the quality. We had the fixed price meal for $25 with a soup/salad, a main, and a dessert.

Chuck Givens

Our go-to place for a classy date night out. Everything I've ever ordered from here was perfect. The staff are also very courteous and attentive. Order the moules-frites (mussels and fries) when you can. Delicious!

Tom Arnel

Had a salad and then a very small hanger steak and mousse for $25. Didn't feel it was worth it. People love this place. I'm not one of them.

h1rambab3

My friends and I had a family style meal. As someone who has been to Paris, this restaurant is as close as you will get to exquisite French cuisine. They have a beautiful French wine selection and the main courses are cooked to perfection (unless you cannot handle the French rare steak. That's how the French do steak ). My favorite course is dessert and the dark chocolate mousse is decadent. Vin Rouge is a must if you're in the area!

Calvin Powers

Wen there for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and it was my first experience with French cuisine. Partly in French, partly in English. But if you don't speak french or the people you are with don't speak french, you'll need to rely on the wait staff to help you navigate the menu. Fortunately, the wait staff seems awesome, at least judging from our waiter who was warm and friendly, but without being too chummy. He was super helpful in helping us navigate the menu. My wife had the roast chicken which she shared with me and I had the sausage dish, which was great comfort food. I am by no means a foodie, but each dish was a composition unto itself. I really appreciated the dining room. It was a mix of rustic and lavish all at once, lots of soft surfaces and good ambiance. It was a pleasure to sit in there and have a relaxed, unrushed conversation with the other couple we were with. As someone who is beginning to have a hard time hearing, it was a joy that the decor absorbed the noisy sounds so we could visit with each other. All in all a very pleasant evening.

Karyn Miller

Lovely atmosphere and delicious food - we came for our anniversary and were well taken care of. We had two delicious cocktails and largely snacked on cheese and charcuterie, but also ordered some steak tartare that was beautifully seasoned. Highly recommend!

Leighann Breeze

A staple in Durham! Honestly some of my favorite french food I've ever had. I recommend the mueles marinières ("classic" they call them) and the beef tartare.

Dorcas Augustcween

I really loved the dish

Kris Ramsey

Amazing food and atmosphere, lovely staff

Isabel Manson

I've been dining here with my family for years and have never been disappointed.

Brian Jordan

As long as you're not in a hurry, an excellent choose for a Sunday brunch. Their croque madame is consistently excellent.

Adam Schoenfeld

Had a Mother's day brunch. Our 4 meals weren't served at the same time. Salmon was good, but had no starch on the plate. A few other small, but surprising issues. Wanted to like it, but probably won't go back.

Jay Wilkins

Seafood and service were exceptional. A great restaurant to celebrate a special time with a bottle of wine!

Jon Day

So I'd seen this place on Food Network, and thought it must be good. Service was excellent, food was ok. Goat cheese and Onion Tart.... kill me now kinda good...

denise denton-rinzler

Family dinner elegantly casual. Lovely intro to French cuisine for our youngest. Pleasure of satisfied expectations for the eldest!

C Angela

Food and service was wonderful. The French onion soup was delicious but also very full.

Abdul Kader

Excellent food. Usually a busy place and service is slow consistent with French culture. Good upbeat environment and noisy gives a French bistro vibes. Tried many different seafoods and all were satisfactory!! I would recommend and would visit the place again.

Paula H

Excellent wine list and amazing traditional French menu. There are gluten free options but limited. The patio is gorgeous and the interior good for a romantic dinner.

Carrie Miller

Incredible restaurant with ambience that really helps like you are in a little cafe in France. My favorite dish of the evening was the French onion soup.. so warming and flavorful on a cold fall evening.

Barbara Ilie

This is where I go when I'm nostalgic for my days living and working in Paris and Lyon.

Jack Wagstaff

Excellent, plentiful menu. The three course early bird option for $25 before 6:30pm is awesome!

Bryan Hassin

Despite the restaurant's name, it doesn't actually seem to specialize in red wine and the majority of its menu is seafood. Still, the cuisine is pretty good. It's very, very heavy on the cheese (Lot of gruyere - no complaints here!) - onion soup, escargots, oysters, and mac n' cheese were all very good.

Evan Huang

I've visited once for dinner and once for brunch and the food was quite good for both menus, however the service was very slow on both occasions. There were a few little things that bothered the group like receiving food but no utensils. This could be due to the fact that it was very busy both times. While my experience was 3-stars, I've heard nothing but good things from friends

Joe Hutson

Food here is fantastic! First of all, the complimentary bread is some of the best you’ll have. Additionally, we had the mussels, which along with the sauce paired perfectly. As the main course I had the macaroni and cheese, which was certainly filling. I couldn’t finish all of it, but it was very good. Crispy, but not hard. The cheese mix was well done. They have a few dessert options.

Food was way too salty, music and restaurant very loud inside. Unfortunately it was too hot to take seating outside. Service was timed well and not overbearing.

This may sound like an odd recommendation for a French restaurant, but this is one of the best places in Durham to get a steak. The prices are reasonable, & the food is really good (get the mac & cheese, seriously: it's awesome!). Also a really good place for wine, especially by the glass, including some via Coravin. Outdoor seating in decent weather; cozy inside, with a bar. Also has probably the best brunch in town. Plenty of traditional French dishes on regular menu. Seafood is particularly good. Try the boudin blanc sometime, or the onion soup gratineé whenever you want it. :) Dessert usually includes chocolate mousse, a tart, and a nice selection of dessert wines & other post-prandial deliciousness. Easy to get to: on 9th St. at Markham/Hillsborough Rd. intersection (Safeway). Enjoy!
