We have been dining at Collington for years. We make a stop here every year on our family vacation. Consistent is an understatement! The menu and quality of offerings are as constant as the passing of time. I always order a special as their seafood is fresh and local, but their beef and pork dishes are absolutely worth ordering. Save room for dessert as the restaurant is one of few to still employ the nostalgic dessert tray and everything is homemade and delicious.

Nice little cozy dinner spot where you can tell there is effort put into the food and service. We like to come here to get away from the vacationers hustle and bustle spots to enjoy a delicious dinner in a relaxing atmosphere. We always order the filet and it is cooked perfectly! The desserts are delicious too, with a large and different selection every time we come!

Our family and friends have been gathering here annually for over 15 years. Family owned and operated, The Colington Cafe is absolutely fantastic. The owners have always been their during our visits. The owners as well as the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcomed. The remodeled home is very warm, cozy, and clean and perfect for comfortable dining. The cafe is always busy which is why reservations are highly recommended. Service at the table is quick and friendly and the food is just to good to be true. From salad to dessert your palate will be very happy. Prices are extremely reasonable for what you get. Seems like we always carry home our leftovers. Terrific for family, friends, professional gatherings, or a romantic evening. Give them a try, I'm sure you will love the experience.

What an experience! We made reservations for 7 and wanted to get in a little earlier so a brief phone call and they moved us up to 6:30. On the way there the sky opened up and poured most of the night. Lightning and thunder were nonstop. But the cozy room upstairs was perfect for quiet dinner conversation. The crab soup was devine and the salmon followed along very well. Highly recommend.

Excellent food and service. A hidden away little gem. Nice romantic atmosphere. The staff were friendly and attentive but not on the way. They have a very nice assorted wines, drinks and local beers. The menu has a very nice selection as well. We opted for the species which were delicious. They have tray of assorted desserts and there coffee was very good.

Went here on our anniversary dinner and was not disappointed. Very easy to get a reservation. Just had to call and leave a message and had a returned phone call just like the recording said. The cafe is tucked back by the Wright Brothers is looks a little smaller than it actually is. Plenty of parking and not difficult to park my truck. Our service was fantastic and the food was even better. My steak was cooked perfectly and my seafood was fresh and delicious. I had a victory plate. I look forward to going back on our next visit to OBX.

Just a warning: not truly family friendly! Parents made a reservation for our entire family. Which includes my 3 year old son. He screamed at one point *quite loudly* (I tried to feed him his pasta) but briefly and my nieces went down the steps to go to the bathroom. (Hostess complained that they were on the steps) Both were apparently bothersome to the “hostess”. Mind you, the other very large party eating upstairs with us were so loud we couldn’t hear each other talk. But, I was asked to leave with my 3 year old as his screams “upset the patrons and the staff”. All this to say, the food is great (although I had to eat mine later at home), atmosphere is good for a date night, or special night out, but bring your child and you may be asked to leave. Left a really bad taste in my mouth. If you don’t want children there please make it an adult only restaurant and save us parents the disappointment, embarrassment, money, and hassle.

The Colington Café was highly recommended by the medical staff's of two different offices. And after doing my due diligence online, decided to check it out for myself. The atmosphere was delightful and quaint. The food was absolutely delicious. I will and would recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates fine food and atmosphere. Perfect spot for special occasions such as birthdays or anniversaries. When my Dad was alive, it was his favorite place to take my Mom. I continued the tradition on her last birthday. Colington Cafe has stood the test of time and is consistently excellent with outstanding food and friendly and attentive staff. It says "Cafe," but no meatloaf here. Colington Cafe is fine dining. Be aware that this is not a place to go without a reservation or expect to eat at burgers and beers prices. It is located in a beautifully decorated house with limited seating. Tables are set close, so leave kids with the sitter and be prepared to use your inside voice as you enjoy a memorable meal. Saw a one star review that I didn't understand until I scrolled through all of that person's review of 16 businesses. 14 of them were one star. Guess you can't please everyone all of the time, or some people any of the time. However, I'm guessing that Colington Cafe will please you every time.

The service was great and the food was great as well. Not sure why they charge an extra $2 for broccoli when the chefs vegetable was a mixed vegetable medley with snow peas. No one in my family likes snow peas, so they charged us $2 per plate to substitute broccoli.

I've not felt more taken care of and more at home on a vacation than when I stopped in. From your first steps on the porch to walking through the Victorian House's kitchen area to my table. Like going to a relative's for lunch, I was tended to like family. The food was Divine and devoured. A juicy 13oz NY Strip topped with a rarity at the cafe: Beer Battered Onion Rings. A side of fresh makes potatoes and asparagus. For dessert, a chocolate cookie pie with vanilla bean ice cream. No one could ask for better. I never thought I'd be so happy about being so wrong about this "cafe". If this is the true definition of a "cafe" then I don't want to go back to a "real" restaurant again.

I cannot give Colington Cafe enough stars! Our meal here was amazing!! Reservations are a must and they take them one week in advance. I had filet Oscar and the hubby had tuna and steak medallions. Both of our meals were exceptional and the steaks we're cooked perfectly. Stay and have dessert! They have a pastry chef and she is wonderful. The chocolate cherry bread pudding was great as was the blueberry crumble. The service was timely and very pleasant. Don't miss out!

We had a great dinner at this quaint little restaurant in an old house. The hot crab dip was all crab and no filler with fresh, sweet, lump crab meat. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection and topped with creamy blue cheese. Tender and most flavorful. Next time I want to try the She-crab Soup

First of this place is very pricey so expect to pay handsomely for all of the food you order. However, the saying "you get what you pay for" is very true here. The steak and crab cakes are amazing and all the appetizers and desserts were fantastic as well. 10/10 would recommend if you have the money that is!

This is the single best restaurant along the outer banks, hands down. The service is foremost their best feature; servers were very knowledgeable about the changing menu, very attentive and the chefs are incredible (even a dedicated dessert chef!). I can't even speak on the food, there are no words... They grow their own fresh herbs in the back and the house it's in is beautiful. Prices are great and much more reasonable than the tourist traps elsewhere. Do yourself a favor and visit this restaurant; we'll definitely be coming back!

We have made The Colington Cafe our annual “Adults Only” dinner since our first framily trip, on the suggestion of one of the homeowners in our development (Thank You Mr. Carey Reed). This trip we were lucky to have Lauren as our server, she was fantastic. We always start off with the She Crab Bisque and it has not let us down a single time. Someone in our party admits to dreaming about it. Our entire party each enjoyed one of the specials, Halibut and Crab Cake (pic included). It was prepared perfectly. The dessert platter never fails to impress, this trip we enjoyed Coconut Creme Pie, Peach and Mixed Berry Crumble al-a-mode, triple chocolate cake with raspberry drizzle and a Toll House cookie with ice cream and chocolate syrup. We cannot wait for our next Framily vacation to leave the kids at home and get back.

Very good. Our friends had been here before so we heard about it from them. We actually went on a double date with them here this summer. The tables had a real flower and it was nice. Also a candle. There was white paper on the table that they just remove after guests leave just like you have on the table in a doctor's office in the patient rooms. The atmosphere was nice and I could hear my company at the table and not have to yell. Water was always refilled. Food did not take long. Waitress wasn’t really that friendly. She lacked some personality but all of our orders were right which is the main thing, I have come to accept at some places we have been lately. The restaurant is in an old house. There were lots of painting and decor on the walls and in the bathroom. It really is a cool romantic spot off the main road a bit. It can be a double date location or just women's night out too. They also have a small wine/shop store that you can check out after dinner or before. We went after dinner but didn’t buy anything. Most of it was overpriced. We were just there to browse anyway but we expect little shops like this to be expensive. It is just how it is in our experience. Now to the food! We got served free rolls which I love that places do at these nicer restaurants. The rolls were a bit hard on the outside though, not super soft to eat. The butter was just the normal land o lakes packaged butter that some places serve. Nothing special but who cares, it was free. We had the teriyaki scallops and she crab bisque soup for appetizers. She crab soup was one of the better ones were have had. The scallops were cooked well and good teriyaki sauce. One of us got the 8 ounce filet mignon. Garlic mashed potatoes and green bean medley came with the entrees. They were tasty. I just prefer no potato skin in my mashed potatoes. Green bean medley was like grilled veggies and it was ok. Also we ordered the mixed grill which was tuna and 4 ounce filet mignon. Fish was just ok. The steak was good but part of the steak was more medium well done versus medium like we ordered. The salsa verde came onto the mixed grill steak and was maybe not the best choice for them to top the steak with. I got the hollandaise sauce on the side for my filet mignon entree but it wasn't my thing which is not a knock on the restaurant. Desserts – the crème brulee was amazing. It came with a sugar cookie and a slice of pineapple. We also had the peach and berry crisp which was peaches, blueberries, granola, what tasted like a cobbler filling I do in a basic cobbler at home (poor man’s), vanilla ice cream with whipped cream on top. I would get it again. It really was so tasty. I was pleasantly surprised. All around the food was tasty and we would go back but would try something different but would probably still get the crème brulee. Haha. Maybe a different seafood dish and perhaps fettuccine alfredo or a chicken dish.

We had a large party and the waitress was unable:unwilling to split the checks up greater than 4 bills ? Her explanation was “it takes too much time”. I’ve worked in restaurants and had table larger than ours. That’s just not true... it’s not hard to split bills from the beginning and work your way from there. My real complaint is one of our guests was in a wheel chair. We got into the restaurant fine, using the wheel chair accessible ramp and door. But during our meal, the restaurant moved a table in front of the handicap accessible door and ramp and our guest couldn’t access the door to exit . The staff had to carry her and her wheel chair down the stairs as they were unable /unwilling to move the table and guests eating. This was extremely embarrassing for our family member. How as a restaurant are you willing to block an handicap entrance ? We won’t be back and won’t be suggesting this restaurant to anyone:

The restaurant is exceptional, from the outside it seems much like a house in a quiet neighborhood with beautiful orchard and car parking provided. However on the inside it has intimate atmosphere that sets the stage for unique dining room away from home. Although there’s no music to charm guests, besides the table settings needs more spacing but the lighting and french artwork on the wall makes up for desired relaxation. Above all I had excellent service and delicious, tasty food and dessert. I definitely recommend this place !

A lovely evening. Server was experienced, fun and professional. The food was exceptionally well prepared. I had the yellow fin tuna and our chef prepared it exactly the way I asked for it. The atmosphere was quiet and we felt welcome even though we should have called ahead for a reservation. Highly recommended.

Always the best there is anywhere ! Make a reservation (rare on OBX) and enjoy the dining experience. An out of the way place that's always in great demand, for a good reason.

Cozy and relaxed. The filet mignon was incredible! Very attentive and friendly waitstaff. Don't skip the dessert! Will definitely be returning the next time I'm in OBX!
