Great place for girls weekend night out! Try the boar or elk. Yummy!

Susan M

A wonderful place to treat yourself to an outstanding meal. I have been there several times and all the meals I have had, have very unique flavors. The staff and owners are very caring and so friendly. It is a must try, if you are in the area.

Bradley Graham

Oh.My.God. The only way to make this place better is if the somehow figured out how to serve sex on a plate.

Fred Praissman

These people know how to prepare fantastic game meat dishes. Great service.

Our favorite fancy date...

Yummy, bring your self control or your black platinum credit card, it's pricey but worth every penny. Oh make reservations as they are that good and popular...

This restaurant was the best experience! We had a little accident when we first got there with our truck , the owner Ken took care of the accident from beginning to end ! He is a man of his word , the food was amazingly done well , fresh local vegetables, meats from local farms and from Australia, thank you ken our truck is finished and looks better than before !

Only a couple places I've been to offer wild game for dinner. Only the Gamekeeper offers this with the quality, atmosphere and service you'd expect at more expensive establishments. I had the duck, but to call it "the duck" seems like an insult to its great flavor and the perfectly prepared experience of eating it. I had this same dish last time and it was great then as well. The dish my wife had was the Mixed Game Grill. It is of the same caliber as my duck entre. I cannot recommend the Gamekeeper more highly. We planned our whole trip based on the 5:30 reservation and will do it again the next time we travel the southern area of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Speaking of reservations, I also strongly recommend a reservation as the first time we ate here we didn't have one. We got a seat despite them being full, but it was right beside the fireplace and that's not a good place to sit in the winter.

Chris Clucas

This is a great restaurant. Everything was perfect. Every morsel of food was delicious. Ryan was our server and the courses were perfectly paced. We live three hours from here and it was well worth the trip.

Jordan West

Five star, amazing, passionate staff and exquisite cuisine.

Kristen Maure

This place is amazing. Down to earth with upscale out of this world fantastic food. Service was on point.

Alisa Reid

Each meal is artfully executed. The duck was flawless, not fatty at all and skin was perfectly crisped. Wendy's bread pudding far outshines any I've had elsewhere.

Skip Pape

Had an excellent Rabbit pot pie last night. Very creative dish and one of the most flavorful meals I have had in quite awhile. We always have great food and service at the Gamekeeper. I would highly recommend stopping here if you visit the area.

Kristen Magee

The food, service and ambiance is 5 stars at this restaurant. Everything was so flavorful and tender. Such a unique menu. We will definitely be back.

Lisa Drasites

Interesting menu. Duck was very good. Inconsistent preparation of entrees and appetizers.

Brent Fidler

Not enough positive things can be said about this place. You are greeted with valet parking. The restaurant is nestled in a beautiful wooded setting and the building is wonderfully rustic. The food is beyond exquisite. Emu, elk, bison, wild boar, rattlesnake sausage and more! All delicious and ecstasy to my adventurous palate. The food is matched by the perfect service and cozy atmosphere. It is a very pricey place but well worth the money for a very infrequent splurge! Worth a sixth star!

Patrick Sigmon

This place is one of the best kept secrets in the mountains! Make sure you get a reservation pretty far in advance because it's always booked .. very upscale with some different and exotic menu selections. It's tucked back in the woods and is loaded with mountain charm and character! Make sure you get a mixed grille for the table to start so you can sample some of the different seasonal and exotic meats they have!

Christie Bonacci

Treat yourself!! Excellent drinks, food, and service

Craig Mercer

My favorite place in town by far. Absolutely splendecident.

michael miller

my wife and I rented a villa on Beech Mountain for the week and located gamekeepers online while looking for fine dining establishments in the area, having come from Charlotte we were used to I have very high caliber a fine dining, gamekeepers had excellent reviews so we showed up with very high expectations. to say that our expectations were met would be a gross understatement gamekeeper drastically exceeded all expectations! our waiter Jeffrey was exceptional, he was polite and personable, attentive and Incredibly knowledgeable not of just the menu itself but more importantly the actual differences between the game options available. the food itself was absolutely phenomenal! we had the sampler which had the Emu, elk, rabbit and wild boar, though it's listed as an appetizer it could very well be an entire entree, we also had fried green tomatoes which were also Beyond reproach, for entrees we had the Emu with the spinach Parmesan risotto, my wife had the out with the blue cheese mac and cheese, I cannot post my entire thoughts or everything that we had here but we will most certainly be back!!

Fabulous as always! ❤️

Good food, jacked up parking!

Karla Gilligan

Very expensive and you get what you pay for: a very special night out! Bartender was fun and attentive, so much so that we stayed seated at the bar. Very nice sunset view. Great choices for the brave foodie and they sell their sausages uncooked to enjoy at home. Strap in and hold on tight on the road there; and to the locals, Slow down! LOL!

Charlie Hubbell

Amazingly creative entrees, nice wine pairings. Atmosphere is funky, relaxed and so very eclectic that it makes for a really unique experience. Worth the drive, make reservations!

Thomas Matousek

Food and customer service was beyond perfection. Nice to have a meal where you can slow down and enjoy it. They make dinner an experience. Even joked with the waiter by asking for A1 and he was so polite that he almost went to get it.

Julie

Came here for our 20th wedding anniversary. Everything was perfect. Nice, cozy, clean place. Excellent service and delicious food. Very friendly staff. Pricey but worth it for this special occasion. Highly recommend trying.

Marie Carroll

My husband and I were blown away by our experience at the Gamekeeper. The food was excellent, the staff was great, the drinks were awesome, the views were beautiful. Could not ask for anything better! Thank you to all the staff at the Gamekeeper for making our dinner so very memorable.

Blaze Maverick

The Gamekeeper Restaurant gave me perhaps the single greatest meal I've ever had. The restaurant setting was not overly formal and the food was absolutely outstanding! The service was great, although mabey not the best of the best. However nothing can match the absolutely delicious elk that I had or the outstanding sampler of meats that I had as an appetizer. My compliments to the chef, owners, and staff of the Gamekeeper Restaurant!

Les Brooks

Wonderful experience in dining. Have suggested this Restaurant to many people and friends

Jason Keeler

I’ve tried and tried to get gamekeeper to cater my wedding. All of my requests went unanswered. Someone told me twice I would get a call... I’m still waiting. If your looking for a caterer I would look somewhere else. Obviously their top priority is the restaurant and doesn’t care about their catering business.

Kiaya Brooks

This was not a restaurant but an experience! Dining here was so amazing that I wish I could give it 10 stars!! The atmosphere made for a superb date night with my husband. Our waitress Laura was helpful, well mannered, and personable. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we felt like their number one priority even though they were packed with plenty of bigger groups. The food was the best meal I’ve ever eaten. All items on the plate were perfectly matched with exquisite presentation. The emu was juicy, tender, and was paired with a variety of yummy veggies on my plate. The creamy spinach risotto tasted better than risotto I had in Italy! My husband and I kept sharing food from our plates because his meal was just as fabulous! The bison hanging tenderloin had a lovely smoked flavor, tender, and cooked to perfection. The croquettes made me wonder why I’d eat potatoes any other way. We made great choices for dinner and finished everything! But we couldn’t stop there! We ordered coffee and desserts to end the meal. Bread pudding and blueberry cobbler...again best dessert I’ve ever had! Laura and the staff kept apologizing for the wait on the cobbler because they were baking a fresh batch. I kept saying it was no problem. We were enjoying the coffee and atmosphere together. They were so apologetic and worried about our comfort that my cobbler was on the chef! Really goes to show they wanted us to feel like number one priority. We did not expect this just for a little wait. But it was a kind gesture to show their sincere apologies. It couldn’t have been a more perfect dining experience with my husband. Thank you for giving us a beautiful night together filled with food, warmth, and love. This place is truly a gem hidden in the mountains.

geoff aldridge

The food and the service were simply amazing. The four diamond rating is well deserved. I highly recommend eating here!

Steven Addair

Awesome ambiance, service and food.

Alex English

This place was an absolutely fantastic find. It was recommended by some locals and the food was just out of this world. You want something unique, they have it. You want something with a good game taste, they have it. And their cocktails and wine list are very hearty. Wife and I went here for our 5th Anniversary and it was just a treat. And I can easily remember Cappa, Noah, and Christian being as friendly as possible. Loved it.

mm ll

Had the potato soup and the duck dinner. They were both very good. The menu was not very deep in choices and everything was expensive. The staff was absolutely perfect. If it was nit expensive 5 stars.

Danielle S

Excellent food and even better service in an exceptional venue

Janice Foster

Very nice dinner and wonderful staff makes for a very memorable evening. This restaurant is an experience!

Tuesdae Rice

Excellent Eats & Location!

Adam Zoellner

Legendary Emu and Duck entrees with ground shaking views...cannot recommended this place more for a special occasion!

Kate Young

This was really fun! Trying all the unique game meats typically not offered in a cozy outdoor atmosphere was an amazing experience. We had great service and everyone in my party agreed it was 100% worth the price of the meal.

Amanda Duke

Game Keeper is perfect for special occasions and stepping out of your cuisine comfort zone. Everything is cooked wonderfully and they feature great combinations and unique items you can't get anywhere else. You will not be disappointed.

brandon yokeley

Food and service were both exceptional. Was greeted by a valet when we arrived and were offered drinks from the bar while we waited for our table to be ready. Food was phenomenal, along with the service from our waiter. Will definitely be going back again.

David Gardner

Fine dining in a beautiful mountain setting. Great service with an award winning chef in the kitchen.

Sandy McArthur Jr

Delicious and unique menu.

Neena Tysinger

Wonderful meal with family. Very accommodating even with a three year old. Every meal was we enjoyed.

Bobbie Henry

My husband and I celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary at this amazing eatery. It has been 3 weeks since the dinner and we are still talking about the incredible flavors and service. I had the duck with blackberry sauce and my husband had the catch of the day. It was all cooked to perfection. We finished it off with the caramel bourbon bread pudding. WOW. Treat yourself to an experience you won’t forget.

Jesse Williamson

The pinnacle of fine dining in the High Country. Exquisite entrees and desserts that makes you savor every bite with a perfect presentation. You could pick from random at the menu and enjoy every bite. The staff is by far one of the most elegant, well-trained, and friendly I've encountered. With food and staff this superb, the calm, inviting atmosphere is simply icing on the cake. Truly the best dining experience you can have in the High Country, and one of the finest I've ever had the pleasure of sitting down to.

K Thomas

Beautiful location, wonderful food! Very helpful in providing gluten-free options.

Bill Engel

We had such a great time at Gamekeeper. We arrived 30 minutes early and took advantage of the free valet. We had a drink at the bar and Sara was great. We were seated In the dining room and met Morgan who was a fantastic server. We enjoyed the Potato soup as a shared app with bread we went with the Duck and the Emu. Both were delicious but the duck was definitely the highlight. We also met the Maitre’d, Kappa who made our experience over the top. We told her we loved our dishes but wished we had room for the Elk. She actually brought us a few bites and it was amazing. We will be back to have that as a meal and revisit the duck. Great food and excellent service. Can’t ask for more.

Chris Everhart

Expensive, but worth every penny. The atmosphere was a unique fusion of outdoors and elegance. The service was impeccable, with well-trained staff. As implied by the name, their specialty consisted of various types of game and less common meats. We had emu (incredible smoky flavor), elk (practically melts in your mouth) and rabbit (very flavorful). The side dishes were a very good complement to the main entrees.

Carolyn Senter

Visited Gamekeeper for my son’s birthday. Lynn, our waitress, was outstanding. After ordering an appetizer that included bison, emu, elk, and alligator, we decided to order the elk and emu for dinner. We did not know what to expect but the meal was incredible. The food presentation was beautiful and the flavors were unique and delicious. Although we live 2 hours from this restaurant, I would consider driving to Boone to experience the Gamekeeper again! Thank you for a memorable evening!

B Boidy

A beautiful meal in a beautiful setting. The food was delicious, and the service was exceptional. The menu consists of a variety of game meats, but also plenty of traditional options as well. My smoked duck pasta was fresh and balanced. Perfect for special occasions or just a lovely meal off the parkway.

John Pertalion

Consistently wonderful.

Best ever

Landon Thorne

If you're hungry for brilliantly prepared game meats, this is the place. A comfortable and informal atmosphere with good service and attentive staff. Comprehensive wine list and good selection of local beers.

Phillip Hu

Note: originally, somehow I accidentally gave a 1 star review to the restaurant. Overall, the experience was splendid and I would definitely visit again given the chance. The food was unique and delicious and the service was friendly. The views were also incredible. The prices are a bit on the high side, but I think it’s worth every penny.

Joel Hawkins

Excellent dining experience with free, valet only parking. Seasonal menu with game and vegetarian options. The German inspired winter menu included elk, rabbit, ostrich, trout, duck, venison and beef along with several types of root vegetables, polenta and other sides. For dessert, the bread pudding can’t be beat. Incredible food, professional waitstaff and a relaxing, rustic atmosphere creates a top notch dining experience.

Char Miller

Best dining experience I've had in awhile. Exceptional food, abundant portions, above and beyond my expectations. Excellent quality and quantity for the price; well worth it. Very knowledgeable staff, personable and professional. Personally I like the classy casual dress, feels welcoming. Highly recommend, we will be back.

John Walls

Awesome food and wine list! German themed restaurant, though food is not necessarily all German cuisine. Lauren was an excellent server. Very on top of everything!

Brent Christy

The mix of aesthetic and cuisine was perfect. Wild game like Emu, Elk and Duck are mixed thoughtfully with local sides. A Boone favorite.

Kim Allen

Intimate atmosphere with amazing staff that go above and beyond with their service (thank you Mac!). Our party shared several appetizers and desserts and traded bites of entrees as well, there wasn't a single bad or even slightly less than amazing dish in the bunch even for those of us with slightly picky tastes. I cannot recommend or praise this restaurant enough. A truly wonderful experience all around.

Jeremy Stirone

Rustic feel and excellent food. Great for first timers like me and my group who are not used to eating game meat. If you’re in the area for a getaway like we were, it’s definitely worth getting a table.

Brittany Haywood

A huge shout out to these guys. They had to close the night we made reservations, on a Thursday, for my boyfriends birthday due to plumbing issues (wouldn’t be a huge deal- but we drove out from Belews Creek in the Triad). We were a little disappointed but ended up coming in the following day, Friday, with an early reservation since we had to drive back home that evening, and only had overnight accommodations for Thursday. We came in and they were incredibly apologetic and had a happy birthday sign for my boyfriend. The waiter, Ryan, and a manager (?) Kappa were incredibly attentive and they ended up comping our round of drinks and dinner, as well as sending over some incredibly yummy creamed mushrooms for us to try. Kappa then came over with a candle in the cake he ordered and sang a beautiful birthday song to him. I’m a customer service manager myself, and they went above and beyond to makeup for a situation out of their control. I am beyond grateful for everything you guys did for us! Incredible service and incredible food. We will be back!

Jamie A

First time ever!! Had mixed grill appetizer.Wonderful. Emu dinner!! Just awesome food.Had great little waitress!!

doug black

A great little restaurant with loads of atmosphere and dishes you wont find in most restaurants. We tried the mixed game grill appetizer with elk, emu, boar sausage, duck sausage, and fries along with the fried green tomatoes.

Will B

Love it Aways. Great food & staff

Gavin Marshall

Possibly one of the best meals i have ever eaten

Zachary Carlton

While visiting for our anniversary, my wife and I chose to dine with you again. Our food was not only incredible, but the service and care shown by the staff blew us away. After a conversation with staff regarding a friends passing and a cold Coors Light, we learned that they did not serve it. Within the hour, we were amazed to receive three Coors Lights in his honor. Words will never be able to express the gratitude we felt after such a kind act. This type of compassion gives hope for a sometimes harsh world. May God continue to bless this wonderful staff and restaurant. You all have no idea what this truly meant.

Mae Eppley

Every bite was scrumptious. A beautiful setting in an historic house that has been transformed into a fine dining restaurant. Noah, our waiter, and the other staff were very attentive. I loved not being rushed to eat. We savored our appetizers and enjoyed a bottle of wine before we ordered our main dishes. We tried the bison, the elk, the emu, the sausages, the duck etc etc etc. ALL were tender and perfectly grilled, deliciously seasoned and served with a variety of sauces. Sorry I forgot the name of the lovely young lady who sang a beautiful song about a birthday to my friend. And yes the the bread pudding dessert and cappuccinos were spot on. When you do spend a little more for dinner for a special occasion or just because, you certainly go away satisfied when you experience great food, great staff and a great atmosphere.

This was our first time at the Gamekeeper and my wife and I ate at the bar. Overall the food and service were ok, but what really bothered us was that directly across from our seats was a plainly disrespectful effigy of President Donald Trump. I was so shocked to see an upscale restaurant display such classless decor that I asked the bar tender what it was. She responded by gladly handing the doll to me and casually replying "You'll either be offended or find it funny". I was speechless. The irony of the "Be nice or leave" sign immediately next to the doll was almost laughable. When we go to a restaurant, especially one as nice as this, we don't appreciate having political opinions displayed so prominently. The valet was also very rude when we walked up, asking if we were "sneaking in" when we had parked ourselves because we didn't see any indication of a valet service as we arrived. We were not impressed and will not be back.

Craig Jasper

By far our favorite spot in the high country. While not the easiest spot to get into, it is well worth the drive and twists to get there. Valet parking eases the trip a bit too. But don't let the "Game" in the name scare you. I have brought clients in from all over that are afraid of Elk, Bison or Rabbit. It is all farm raised, and perfectly prepared. If available, try the sampler platter. A little bit of everything and could be an entree. It all is a bit pricey, but nearly all the truly great places here are in that category. If possible get a reservation. It fills up quickly and pretty cozy so it is not that big.

Benjamin Ray

One of my high country faves. Cozy, romantic atmosphere with incredible food. Go here to splurge on yourself

Keith Joyce

This is an EXCELLENT restaurant well-hidden in the NC High Country between Banner Elk and Blowing Rock. Tucked onto the side of a mountain off a narrow, extremely twisting two-lane road, it's a rustic delight. Don't think about driving this road after drinking much - it's a tough drive in the dark and I wouldn't even think about it with snow on the ground. The valet will park your car and return it for you - the parking area and access road are tricky. Once inside the beautifully rustic dining area, you'll find a tremendous menu specializing in exotic entrees such as emu and elk. The dining experience is unparalleled. The food and service are superb. Try the sampler platter with emu bites, elk, rabbit sausage and more.

Robyn Cappelli

Great meal. The coffee was the last thing served. Too bad, it was supposed to be high grade organic coffee. Again, to bad about the coffe, meal was great. You would think at a 5 star restaurant the coffee would be a better grade

Tiffany Granims Gallagher

This is an amazing dining experience. The food is umptious and the atmosphere romantic. No matter what the occasion, this is the perfect dining experience for the adventurous foodie.

john fuller

Great choice of meats of all kinds

Sylvia Norris

Awesome service, exquisite food presentation and taste both. Unique setting.

Carol Goedecke

The drinks and food were very good. The only negative thing was that the waiter had dirty fingernails.

Richard Fisher

Fantastic. Great food. Great staff. One of the best places I have ever eaten. Service could not have been any better.

Silver Frank

Great meat dishes, but it's fairly expensive. Not as much here for vegetarians if that's your thing.

Taby Garman

We came here for our anniversary. Absolutely flawless in every respect. Service was phenomenal, the food was to die for, wine selection was amazing, atmosphere was perfect. Highly highly highly recommend.

Jeff Kurzner

A great restaurant without equal in all of Western North Carolina

Angela Heavner

Food was amazing! We got the emu and elk, both were fabulous! The staff were wonderful. Great service from Will, our server, Christian in valet and the host who made sure our candles stayed lit. Great 5th anniversary!

Kerry Marcoux

I told my husband that if I had to pick a favorite meal - as far as flavor and atmosphere, our dinner tonight at Gamekeeper would be an all-time top of the list! I had the Emu and he had the Elk - both were delicious and unique. We had such a great time and the service was also great. I recommend a reservation one hour before sunset so you can enjoy the beautiful setting of the restaurant before and after dark!

Tristan Crawford

Amazing food, amazing service, amazing atmosphere. I can not say enough good things. My emu was fantastic, risotto was perfect vegetables were divine. My wife had elk, which was soooooo good. I had the bread pudding for dessert and can say it was the best dessert I've ever had

John Ackerman

Quaint, rustic, lodge style Restaurant tucked away on a mountain top surrounded by woodlands. Located south of Boone and west of Blowing Rock on a winding road, the restaurant serves an array of Exotic Entrees, including Emu, Duck, and Bison, as well Steaks and Seafood. Full bar, great service, in a laid back atmosphere, makes for an enjoyable dining experience. Pricing is above average, but worth it. Parking is limited, so carpool in groups, and allow the attendant to park your vehicle. Try something Exotic. You'll gain a Memory!!

Maylin batista

My husband took me here for my birthday this past weekend. Everything was excellent from service at the bar to our waitress. My waitress knew my age. I was really impressed from Valet parking to the fantastic view. They made this day unforgettable.

Gabe Page

Wow. I’ll go back again and will recommend for years. Appetizers, entree, and desert were fantastic. Intimate dining experience and professional staff.

Alicia Backes

From the family of wonderful staff, the amazing cocktails, extensive wine options, and the most amazing local and fresh entrees and decadent desserts, this upscale eclectic restaurant is in a whole other "GAME-" than anything else around! It's certainly a "KEEPER"! If you eat out, at all, in the high country...this place will impress!

Amy Kuehnert

Excellent food, excellent service. They were able to work us in without a reservation. Valet employees were extremely friendly and professional. I would make a special trip back from Florida to eat here again.

Richard Casey

This was a great getaway for my wife and I. Great atmosphere coupled with superb service and wonderfully eclectic and delicious entrees.

Donna Marshall

Awesome experience beginning with the friendly valet. Excellent service and delicious meal! I highly recommend.

Anna Autrey

From the family of wonderful staff, the amazing cocktails, extensive wine options, and the most amazing local and fresh entrees and decadent desserts, this upscale eclectic restaurant is in a whole other "GAME-" than anything else around! It's certainly a "KEEPER"! If you eat out, at all, in the high country...this place will impress!

Sandra Puette

Good food and service is hard to come by, but "The GameKeeper" restaurant offers the best of both ! From the valet, Charlie, to our server, Lizzy, to the Chef, all were superb ! A bit pricey, but worth it !

Stephen Harris

It was good. Ordered the emu which was a bit under seasoned, and the Wagyu ribeye, which for some reason was slathered in a sauce as if to hide the beef flavor. I thought it was strange for a chef to do that to such a cut of beef. Delightful atmosphere, will go back to try other things.

Beth Martin

If you are on a diet, forget about it when you come here, the food is phenomenal. Great customer service

realdeel13

Excellent game food. A must is the game sampler platter. Eclectic and non pretentious with beautiful views and top notch food. Throw in a shot out to all staff from valet to waitresses, all very friendly and accommodating. Impressed by the fresh local foods that were served from meat to veggies. Love this place!

Lynne Morelock-Roy

Our second time to visit. Come with an open mind and experience it! Wonderful food, atmosphere and service. Worth the drive up from Atlanta today!

Todd Winslow Miner

Wonderful food! Great service!

Christopher Holden

One of the most unique and enjoyable dining experiences I've had. The passion for the food is evident.

Fred Hanstead

This restaurant is exquisite. From the food, the staff, and the atmosphere, they truly deliver a perfect dining experience

Robert Gantt

Disappointing, we eat a lot of game meat and found the food lacking in taste and presentation. We had a Reservation and were seated quickly, but it was quite a while before someone approached us with menus and then even longer to take your drink order. Atmosphere is extremely rustic which is to be expected in the mountains but this was just a little too rustic for me.

Anna Townsend

Excellent service and ... Oh the Most delicious appetizers! The cocktails were creative and the presentation of the main dish was perfect! LOVE THIS!

Steven Moize

Absolutely amazing dining experience. The atmosphere was a bit too loud for my taste but overall the everything was perfect.

Christopher Griggs

The food is incredible!!

Grace Mason

My husband made reservations for our anniversary. We were greeted by name and seated at a beautifully decorated table. The service and food were all amazing. I ordered the duck and my husband got the emu. It is expensive, but we will be back next time we are in the Boone/Blowing Rock area. It's worth the splurge.

Georgina Wood

Incredible. Amazing. Delicious. There are not enough words in the English language to describe the mouth watering experience that is The Gamekeeper. Go. Experience it. You will not, CAN NOT, be disappointed with the service or the unbelievable food! Worth every penny! And, side note, order the Bread Pudding. Heaven on a plate.
