Went here for Father’s Day and got the fisherman’s plate and the oyster had a tiny pearl inside and it chipped the corner of my tooth completely off, thanks now I got a huge dentist bill ahead of me. Told the guy working there and his only response was “I appreciate you man, I’ll keep an eye out. Must have missed one” like are you kidding me? I paid over $50 for me and my wife’s meal, think I deserve a little more then that bud. Will NOT be returning.

We stayed in emerald isle and after visiting the aquarium we saw the great reviews and came to this restaurant. We sat immediately and after reviewing the menu we asked the waitress about some meals and she told us not to order the bbq that they cook ahead and refrigerate it. So we chose some different items. When our food came my mothers salad was iceberg lettuce and 2 cucumbers. After 2 bites ashe found a huge black hair. We notified the waitress and after coming back with a new salad she mumbled under her breath, sorry. Our food was mediocre....sandwiches and burgers were small. When I went to pay for the food, it was much more expensive then I expected, I asked for a receipt and the cashier was like I guess, and reprinted one, but just had prices on it....no breakdown of the food. We will never be back, and I do not recommend to anyone .

Most of their food is good. Good breakfast, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits are good, decent pancakes. Coffee is passable. Eat there for breakfast and dinner a lot when in Morehead City. Big portions. Free dessert when you order one of their specials at dinner. Good family restaurant with decent prices. Owner comes through and asks if your food was good. Good service most of the time.

Cox is a real diner type casual diner. They are a strong hold for Morehead and usually full! Great food, good servings, standard diner atmosphere, but the waitresses rock! They remember what you order to drink, treat you like family, and make you want to come back often, which we do! BTW, they have wonderful fried cat fish!!

It says they've been in business for 40 years... But... We had lunch (6 people) and none of us enjoyed our lunch. We're wondering assuming maybe they have a great breakfast to be in business so long? The particular waitress we had wasn't the greatest but other employees were super friendly. We won't be back for lunch, but maybe we'll go back to try their breakfast someday...

This is actually a place where the locals eat. There is a board with all the specials for the day and it always includes meals for 695 which includes a dessert. This is no Gourmet restaurant but it will feed you good food on the cheap. Tonight I had center cut pork chops on grilled asparagus with Marcela gravy. The pork chops were on mashed potatoes which are homemade. That cost 895. The waitresses and staff are friendly and helpful. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it's not a gourmet restaurant. I go there pretty often and expect I will continue to do so. Usually when I go I order a meal to eat and a meal to take home. This works out well and helps me avoid cooking which I no longer like to do. It's maybe 40 minutes from my house and that's the only reason I don't go there more often. Try It, You'll you will like it.

I really do not know how the food taste because I never got my food. My waitress was very short with me and never once came to check on me to refill my tea. I ordered and after 15 min she came back to tell me that they were out of the menu item that I ordered. She expected me to know what I wanted since they were out of what I had originally ordered. I told her I needed more time. She never came back nor did I see her until after my son finished his food. I went to taco bell...yuck.

Food was great as always, the customer service today from our waitress was lacking severely. had to ask another waitress to get us some coffee and water because ours never came back to the table except to bring our food and a bill. It's sad when you have to ask someone to bring you coffee or water because your waitress just pretend you're not there needless to say my daughter who paid the bill never left to tip.

Every trip/vacation that we take to the beach with our family/friends we have always made a point to eat breakfast or dinner there. A family oriented restaurant & atmosphere, friendly & timely staff with delicious homestyle food as well. M6 parents brought me here, I brought my own children here, and now my own grandchildren. That's 4 generations in my family so I guess it's safe to say... "We Love This Place"! We are from Tarboro/Pinetops NC area.

A great little old style diner/restaurant. There were plenty of locals, which in a touristy kinda town is a good thing as folks that live in the area are going to go back if it's not a good restaurant. Many daily specials on the board and the list of side dishes was incredible. Even if you don't dare for them, you'd have to admit that seeing rutabagas on a menu is unusual. I do like them and they were amazingly good. The staff was wonderful, made us feel at home and we had a great dinner.

We've been going here for year's it use to be really good with great service. This year the service was terrible had a group of 6 one of the waitresses acted like it was a huge inconvenience. Got a double cheeseburger and got a patty and maybe a half. Not impressed with Cox's at all anymore

Went there for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and that was the best southern cooking that I have had in a long time. I understand that it's a family owned restaurant, and the folks there are just as nice as they can be.I had grilled Pork chops, New potatoes and fried okra, and it was yummy, look forward to going there again one day

We went there today for St. Patrick's. My husband ordered the special, corn beef and cabbage, but when he got his order, it was ham steak. Kimmie was our waitress and when I brought this to her attention, she decided to argue with me that I was wrong, he ordered ham steak. I just looked at her! When is it acceptable to argue with customers?? We are locals and it seems that the folks running businesses around here don't care how their customers are treated, but then they want to complain that business is slow and they don't know why. We will not be back to Cox's.

The food wasn't very good. The lady ringing people out at the register was rude and complaining about it being a long day. She was also very slow. I will say the service was great! That's the only reason I have it 2 stars because she very server in there seemed very friendly and they were all either waiting on customers or doing their sidework.

This is not a fancy looking place, but the locals love it because the food choices are good, and reasonably priced. It's a favorite place to go for my local family, and for us as visitors over the past 25 years. It's a family friendly place, and the staff treat you well. A lot of comfort food, and local seafood.

Our waitress was very friendly but she forgot a few things and we had to wait awhile. It seemed like there were not enough waiters for the crowd.The food was good. Everyone was kind. Its not a place to take kids unless they are quiet which mine were not. Lol. The tables are pretty close together.

The food was great! Waitress didn't smile at all. Didn't check on us once. The cashier was rude. Gave her the amount owed and the change was three cents. Not a big amount but still three cents and she said made a rude comment about my husband waiting for it. She said "Are you really going to wait for three cents? Do you need it that bad?" Very poor service!

Fantastic little restaurant. It was buzzing with local residents rather than strictly tourists. 40+ years in business shows that it's in high demand. Pleasantly surprised by this gem of a find. Upon a recommendation of a friend, we made the 30 min trek over to cox family restaurant. Unbelieveable prices but be cautious what you purchase. I got the rib eye. It was about 3/4" and although i ordered it medium, it was more a medium well. The saving grace was how tender it was. My wife ordered the seafood and that was awesome. Order from their daily specials menu and receive a free dessert. I had the berry cobbler and it was pretty good. We will likely go back because of the wide variety and pretty good quality of the meal!

Will not recommend this place. I've been here times before but seems like each year they change some of the waitress. I ordered decaf coffee and on both occasions I was giving regular coffee which caused my head to spin. The waiter want to get in a heated argument on debate about it. Instead of being courteous and just simply replace it. We left the food on the table and went next door to Captain's table had a great experience. This place has lost my business forever.

My husband and I stopped here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The place was packed and the empty tables hadn't been bussed. It's a seat yourself kind of place so we got a table that wasn't too disgusting. The waitress came by and cleared the table quickly but the room had a smell like dirty dish water. They serve breakfast all day but we decided on the lunch specials. My husband had the grilled salmon and I had the crab cakes. The choice of vegetables/sides was amazing - there was mac and cheese, rice, sweet potatoes, bacon and tomato slaw, fresh squash, turnip greens, etc. I got the mac and cheese and bacon & tomato slaw and my husband got rice and turnip greens. The food was decent and definitely homemade. We even got dessert included with the specials - apple cobbler and chocolate pudding. The tables are covered with ads for local businesses and the plates are pretty much the divided plates you'd get at a cafeteria. I respect the practicality of that. I just couldn't get past the weird smell and the feeling that things weren't as clean as they could have been.

Good home cooked meals. Price is average. Sweet tea here is very good. Very popular with the locals. Go early as parking can be hard to get as it is quite popular. They have a lot of specials every day. You never know who you will see any time that you go there to eat. There is also a large dinning room in which you can have groups come for any kind of get together.

A staple of Eastern North Carolina! Do yourself a favor and ask Chef Crab Cakes. So good and fresh! It’s typically a seat yourself type of eatery but the service is great and so is the food! They bring out hush puppies with butter dipping spread and it always brings me back to my childhood. Parking can be sketch if it’s busy so if you can carpool, it’s better. Enjoy!
