Here you have the reviews of people who are using the services and products of Chosun Ok BBQ (Restaurant) in North Carolina area.
Currently the firm receives a rating of 3.9 over 5 and the rating has been calculated on 160 reviews.
You must have seen that the average score it has is very positive, and it's founded on a very large number of feddbacks, so we may be pretty sure that the evaluation is quite faithful. If people have bothered to evaluate when they are happy, it works.
You know that we don't usually bother to give tatings when they are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Restaurant is included in the category of Korean barbecue restaurant.
I'm reluctant to leave a review because this place is a hidden gem I want to keep for myself. But oh. My. God. This place is incredible! Authentic Korean cooking... You'll forget you're in Durham and be transported. We will be back many more times.
Great food. Banchan (appetizer) is best.
If you are the kind of people like me thinking it is okay to experience bad service as long as the restaurant has gotten you good food, this place would change your mind! At least it is true for me. I saw the comments and reviews on Yelp saying they’ve got rude services, I went anyways because all I cared was good food, and some reviews gave the idea that this place had good food, but my visit here proofed me being completely wrong. My friend and I came around 11:50 before they open at noon, so we waited outside and looked at the menu so that we can order once we sit down at the table. At the moment we got into the door, all we got was a long face, okay, that’s not unacceptable. We got our menu, and we tried to order a samgyupsal and beef marinated with sesame oil and salt being cooked at our table, then we were told we had to order at least two portions of each one because that’s the way they took orders and prepared food, I was stunned, then make one order into two portions, the price isn’t low, it was 18.99 and 19.99 respectively! Well, then no bbq. Once she walked away, she said if you didn't like it then you can leave, wait what? That couldn’t be nicer. But I didn’t do so, because that’s not how I would like to do at a restaurant, but apparently she didn’t mind me doing that, and I should have done what she told me, that was a very kind piece of advice :) So we went on and ordered a Jeongol, and finally came our water which should really be served once we sat down! And the reason she gave was because she didn’t know if we were going to leave, ha! Smart! And I asked for our side dishes, she said Jeongol didn’t come with side dishes, I had never been to a Korean restaurant that did not serve side dishes! Maybe I was wrong, I’m not Korean so I might not know the rules here. Oh! The water! It tasted like it had been sat there in the pitcher all night! Even worse then tap water. She said thank you and see you next time when we leave, that helped making me feel better after all these. I was very upset about the whole experience. I’m not telling who ever sees this do not go, but just a heads up, so you wouldn’t be surprised, and please proof me wrong, maybe she just had an unpleasant morning and we were there too early.
The woman in the restaurant always shows a sick face to customers....Food is fine...service is really baf
The food was fresh, good and joy. We enjoyed it very much and will come back again.
This is an average place with good korean food. You will be satisfied.
Solid Korean food at a reasonable price. Their Bibimbap is quite good.
Jja-Jang-Myun is a must-try dish at this restaurant!
WORST service Ive ever experienced at ANY business. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, server yelled at us, spoke about us to other customers, and gave us a snobby attitude throughout the night. My girlfriend and I came here before with the same server but thought she was having a bad day that night so we let it slip. But second time with the same attitude? She needs to be let go.. It said "Angela" on the receipt but not sure if she's using someone else's name. EDIT: We tipped her well on our first encounter with her to be a nice even though service sucked. Maybe it would be better the next. But NOPE
Go for the food, come back for the owners — they are great, and care so much about you Korean cuisine experience. I go here for lunch during the work week frequently, and it’s all fresh and delicious. The kimchi is, of course, very good. Bibimbap, bulgogi, jajangmyeon try it all.
Excellent food, very close to what I had while living in Korea. Also they have Soju and indoor electric grills for Korean style BBQ!!
The old lady was rude! She would tell us that sharing is prohibited and she won't leave us alone! She's annoying and very unpolite. Worst service ever!!!! It sucked so bad. Never ever coming back!!
Awesome. You should eat here.
Excellent food in a surprising location. Presentation even at lunch was top notch. Staff was outstanding.
Fast service, good food.
The owner is so kind and rice and foodwasAMAzing lunch is good portion
Great food. I recommend the bulgogi.
The food was great. Went there with a friend who is Korean so did not have a hard time
I've now been to Chosun about 4 times since the ownership changes in 2013 or 2014. It's been very good each time. Certainly the best Korean I've had in the Triangle, and better than most I've tried in the US.
We went today for lunch. It's been a long time. Was very surprised when I saw the reviews before I go. After all, we still love the owner and their cooking. Owner is still very nice and food is very delicious as always.. Recommend... Go with group friends and family... Acceptable price! ❣
My favorite restaurant
I had an awesome time at this restaurant. The food was AMAZING and the service was beyond exceptional. We were immediately greeted and seated. Our food arrived in a timely manner and was carefully prepared for us. If I could give 10, 000 stars I would.
Food was okay but the service was horrible. Would not recommend going in groups
I loved this resteraunt. My friend and I came in wanting real authentic korean food. I had the jobjae and pan fried dumplings. Food incredible. Staff so friendly and outgoing. Really make you feel at welcomed. Thanks for making my first korean resteraunt experience great.
Expensive but great.
Great place! They have soju and the food is really good.
Love it. Fast service. Food is consistently delicious!
Mr. TaeHee Lee's review is on spot; don't bother with the place. He's observations are accurate. It is lacking in service, food quality but most of all, overpriced for what you get. I had lunch. All they brought out were two kinds of kim-chee in tiny bowls. Nothing else. For a Korean restaurant, this is not acceptable. Ordered mixed rice. It came out in a bowl that was only half full. You have to pay for "large" portion to get a bit more of rice. Incredible. The place is below average at best in terms of taste and mediocre in terms of service. There are other Korean restaurants nearby which are significantly better. It cost me $25 for two entree as I bought a guest. I want my money back...the place is utterly not worth it.
Got BBQ short ribs. Delicious!
Went with a friend visiting from Korea to get an experts opinion. He said it was just as good as home. I get the Bibimbop with kimchi and now I want it again.
Mandu was top notch, bimimipap amazing
Food is okay but the pricing is ridiculous. Way overpriced for items that should be half the price. Can get just as great food for much better prices at HMart.
New Owner in place last two weeks. lot of banchans.
Crazy Old Lady was serving..when we asked to call manager, she replied that she is the owner! She was very rude, as soon as we got there she asked what we would like to order we came to eat soup, she told us that we cannot order only one meal, otherwise we have to leave
The WORST restaurant experience EVER!! I love Korean food but the food here is just average. I ordered Nakji bokum, the octopus was so tough we could not even chew it. When I informed the owner lady about my concerns she continues to pick her tooth and rudely tells me that's how we serve it and it's my fault to have picked this dish :O. I was SHOCKED!!! Reminded me of Gordon Ramsay's episode on Amy's Baking Company... I'm never going back again!!! TRY this place at YOUR OWN RISK!!!
We were looking for restaurant to go to for a birthday celebration with the family and thought we should try Korean BBQ. The location was not far at all and the restaurant was clean and the staff extremely friendly. The owner was so kind to help us understand the menu options and when I say the food was YUMMY it is by far the best korean BBQ ever. Everyone in the triangle area should try it. Their prices are better than similar restaurants and they are very family friendly
The meats are good and the variety is nice. Price is a little high. The owner assumed we did not know how to cook the food, so that was awkward. She was nice though and checked on us a couple of times. I would return.
Very good bbq corean restaurant with correct prices.
Food was delicious, and they were incredibly nice to us! Definitely coming back!
VERY tasty. As expected, the price looks a little high, but the food is worth it.
Wonderful!! Try the bibimbap or the japchae...both are excellent. Ignore negative reviews as this place is under new management with a new chef... they will even alter a dish if you are nice about it. They have a great tea as well- barley tea I believe and the miso soup is super! See you there!
This place is amazing. the food is delicious. You can order table side bbq and large communal dishes. And the owner is one of the nicest people. She always recognizes me when i come in (which is petty often, admittedly). Order a bottle of soju with friends!
This place is great. I've been going here for years and it't the only authentic Korean you'll find here in the Triangle. We've tried them all. It's really like moms cooking (if your mom was Korean). One of the few hidden gems left here in the triangle. Don't be scared off by some of the selfish and culture-phobic review you can read below. Chosun OK BBQ is some of the best Korean around.
Very friendly family running the place who will make great suggestions to those not familiar with the menu. We had 5 people in our party and party much just ordered 5 different dishes and ate/tasted family-style.
Amazing bibimbop and nice service.
Good food! Good service!
(Translated by Google) Ah. Delicious place. Is it a feeling of homeland after a long absence? Although extremely personal. (Original) 아. 맛게 먹은곳. 오랜만에 느끼는 고국의 느끼이랄까. 극히 개인적이긴 하지만 말이다.
Great food and atmosphere!! The owner is her friendly! Love it here!!
Great tasting food! Awesome customer service! A must try!
This time we used their table BBQ grills. Coding out own selection was easy and fun, and the food that was presented was top quality and fresh.
Excellent service and amazing food! Better than most restaurants that I went to while in SKorea! Way better than the KSBs too!
Korean barbeque good
It’s my favorite korean restaurant in this area. It really tastes like korean food from back home. I love it! Especially they are really good at Korean Chinese food! Black bean noodle and Spicy seafood noodle is makes me feel so good!
Terrible service, extremely rude and slow. We were accused of using too many napkins...
Reading some of the very negative comments on here made me kind of mad. I dined here for the first time tonight and had a wonderful experience. The owner was so gracious and kind. We had the BBQ combo and the food was delicious and very fresh. It was a very relaxing atmosphere and clean. Great experience and definitely will be returning.
Pretty good place decent prices also
I thought the place was delicious - certainly a little pricey (didn't go during lunch), but the portions are large and meals come with miso soup and an assortment of Korean side dishes (kimchi, etc.) Recommended.
Awesome authentic food. This is the real deal.
The worst dinning experience I have ever had. I ordered kimchi jigae, there was literally only one piece of tofu and one piece of meet, and the stone bowl was only half filled. I asked the lady if she can give me more. Then she looked at me and said in a very rude way "what do you want me to do. This is for lunch special. You don't have to eat." I returned the food and ordered something else instead. She told me that I have to wait until the other two tables who came after me and my friends are served, because I changed my order. At the end, my food came after my other three friends finished eating, and they had to wait for me to finish eating. I felt terrible eating there for how I'm treated. Service is the worst I have ever experienced.
The food here was amazing! The service was STELLAR and I cannot wait to go back. We shared a kbbq combo that had beef, chicken and pork and the sides were delicious and fresh. The price point seems high at first but the quality of the food and customer service is worth every penny. Please, please try them out! :) You will not regret this decision.
Tasty food and good selection. We have been here several times and always get friendly service from the owner/cook and others who are there. Haven't run across a bad dish yet, and we have tried a lot. Great offering of sides with bulgogi. Everything is always fresh, too.
Rude owner!!! Prepare for a bad attitude-, entitlemen-, and eye rolling-experience. I cannot believe how poor the service is. It's no
Very customer friendly and great atmosphere. The owner and staff really take care of you and the portions and the food is amazing. You can even cook your own meat to how u like it. My family and I will make this a ritual to eat here!!!
Delicious Korean bbq!! Staff is very attentive. Always Korean language newspapers and tv in the place.
Food and service was great. We were a very large party (14 couples) and things flowed very smoothly. The food was delicious!!
Love the food, and respects how the restuarant works with its customers in ordering (at times) BUT, I must agree in saying that the hostess/owner's attitude is just plain RUDE! There is ABSOLUTELY NO HARM in asking to see the menu again to validate cost, but it IS something wrong with you yelling at me to "look at my receipt" for the right cost and denying me that right!!! Like REALLY??? No matter the cost difference - IF a customer wants to check something from the menu - let them! It shouldn't matter to you! BUT the attitude in denying me that right and saying nobody's trying to cheat you is uncalled for and the reason behind this post! CHECK YOUR ATTITUDE!
Best Korean bbq, even better than those in the Korea town in NYC. You must try it at least once! The Omu rice and the combo2 bbq are always my favorite!!!!! Highly recommend!!!!!
Horrible service. The owner blatantly suggested that we "come back next time" when we asked, when ordering food, how much time it would take for food to come out, simply because she informed us prior that the chef is not available (during open hours!). I was shocked. Needless to say, we left.
I'm a vegetarian they adapted two dishes for me with just veggies they also offered amazing miso soup and assorted veggies this place is great
Horrible experience! the lady/server/owner is super rude! The service was horrible and the food was average. Just go to the surrounding Korean restaurants in town.
The bad reviews for this place are crazy. The food is amazing and the prices aren't any more expensive than your typical american restaurant. If you're with a group, you tend to get some extra small appetizers to go with your food, free of charge. The owner is great, she tends to remember most of her customers and is extremely friendly. This place is definitely worth the time/money, my friends an I go all the time.
Average
Really love the service. Love how she always remembers me and what I ordered ^-^
One of my favorite places in the area. The food is always amazing and the service is great. The owner is a awesome; she remembers me even when its been several months between visits.
I was really excited to try something new. I asked for a recommendation, and the women said "most americans like regular bbq so you probably won't like it." I don't really know how to take that besides being judgmental.. she came back a couple minutes later and said "so you wanna go somewhere else?" We weren't going to, I was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, hoping she didn't mean it as she had said it.. I'm very disappointed in the customer service here. It's smelled DELICIOUS, but with the rudness I received , I lost my appetite. I've never written a review before, but I felt it was necessary.. at least for future reference, hopefully the workers will be less judgmental and next time give a PERSONAL RECOMMENDATION when asked..
Went here yesterday, I am a Korean visiting RTP for a business trip. This restaurant found from googlemap with some good reviews. Not at all, everything's poor(Food, Service, Decor) and one thing surprises me most. They speaks Korean with North Korean accent, sure that "Chosun" in "Chosunok" means North Korea. They have South Korean food but tastes are neither South Korean nor North Korean, just strange !! Never think about this place.
Great
(Translated by Google) Wonderful food !! Very nice Very delicious, Very kind Qara Khitai is really good and friendly and all food Juneyo much transfer, rather than eaten in Korea Qara Khitai ate more delicious is really HOT! (Original) Wonderful food !! Very nice Very delicious, Very kind 정말 맛있서요 그리고 친절하고 모든 음식이 양도 많이주네요, 한국에서 먹은것 보다 더 맛있게 먹었서요 정말 강추합니다
Unexpectedly delicious.
They said the new owner took over the business and updated the menu a bit. I took pictures for those who wants to check them out. It was our first experience in the restaurant so can’t really compare to how it was before. But we really really enjoyed the food and service. We even got more food to-go so we can have some as a late night snack.
Great spot to eat for Lunch. Good prices even better Bibimbop
Great food, Very friendly waitstaff.
Nasty, dirty place
Very friendly clean environment. Food is tasty. It is in the back of Pizza Hut mall. Could not been seen on road.
The owner is one of the SWEETEST people I have ever met in the food industry. The hospitality is amazing! And the barbecue is absolutely delicious! Will be back soon!
This place is a horrible place. DO NOT GO HERE. AGAIN DO NOT Go HERE. Horrible food. Horrible service. Owner lady is a complete nut job. Food is absolutely horrible.
Food was OK, but 'way overpriced and there were only two shrimp in a whole bowl of Bibimbap. Server was nice, but the owner was surly and impolite.
Nice owners with good food
Delicious, authentic and fun. Be respectful and you will be treated to a lovely meal. They will remember if you come back twice! If you don't like this place you were either rude and the owner called you out on it or you don't know what Korean bbq is.
Please you have to check other recently reviews of this place. So different with several months ago. Extrememly dirty and terrible service. That place was surprised. Owner was very rude, so dirty BBQ pan plate, looks like reuse of Banchans. So we never come back that place again. We just asked her. "Could you please change the New BBQ pan?" and she said, " This is No dirty. This is American style. Why you don't trust korean restaurent? You should be the first visit to Korean restaurent in US."... (what...???) And we just went to out. So terrible experiance. That BBQ pan was covered with old pork and something black stain. Please shame on you, you are so rude owner! Oh, I heard that..that owner was new owner. So the pictures of the dishes already posted and the side dishes we ate look very different.
Bad experience with the service.
We traveled 25 mins just to taste thier food for the first time but what we experience last night was a WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! the lady "ANGELA" was so Rude! She tells us everything what we need to do to our food?! And she don't want us to share our food?! She even talk to the other koreans in thier own language. They think we are so young to eat in thier restaurant! She yells at us not to come back in thier restaurant agian. I tell you DO NOT EAT HERE! It's not worth it! WORST DINING EXPERIENCE EVER!!!
Best authentic Korean in Durham or Chapel Hill! Beverage selection is poor though.
horrible service. food is way overpriced. the owner lady was so nosy. she was so rude, she's even talking and laughing about us with the other customers! she even said we're too young to be eating there!! never coming back to that place again!
They have budae jigae. Not sure I have seen it on the menu at other places around. I didn't order it when I went but my friend had it was pretty good.
Terrible service, extremely rude 。
So good food and fresh vegetables and nice place fantastic
I am beyond upset and angry with this place. Not only did they serve me a plate of noodles that was really a plate of onions with three pieces of broccoli they had the audacity to call yakisoba. They also messed up my husband's order bringing udon soup instead of the shrimp tempura udon soup and she had a go at me like it was my fault telling me that's what I said. Firstly I pointed to the shrimp tempura soup and secondly that's a lot of extra words she didn't hear before udon soup. Both portions were so small we had to get food after we left I'm not exaggerating and we are the type of people that divide our food in half and take the rest home. Udon soup was in a small bowl. The prices in there were ridiculously. expensive. She never refilled our drinks and served the Asian customers with more respect and courtesy and I might add their portions were larger.
Drove an hour from Goldsboro to eat here as I've been craving a galbi restaurant, was disappointed to know when I arrived that they are closed until further notice with a sign in the window "will reopen soon", no notices on website or Google about them being closed or anything. So be wary if your traveling to visit this place.
The food is delicious and the service is good.
Great place for Korean food, and the owner is helpful if it's your first Korean experience.
