What a great place. The food is affordable and delicious. The staff is super friendly and attentive. Both the buffet and menu have a great selection. And they have a mini candy store with all kinds of old time candy.

Loved the vegetable and dessert buffet as well as the salad bar. Not looking for that? They have a vast menu to satisfy any taste. The decor is awesome and reminiscent of times gone by.

We found Abele’s by chance on our way to the Smoky Mountains, and we enjoyed it so much that we stopped by on our return trip as well. On our second visit, we happened to arrive during the transition from breakfast to lunch, so we were able to try both. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many breakfast meat selections on a buffet before! Everything I tried was good, but the baked apples and peach cobbler were especially top notch. You can definitely make a meal of the salad bar and buffet, but the prices were very reasonable to add an entree. The staff members were friendly and attentive.

Food was good. Service was fast and nice. Presentation was lacking--everthing looked sort of thrown together with packages of this sauce and that sauce strewn over the table. Not really all that memorable in the grand scheme except for the many plaques and signs scattered on the walls--and for the most part, those messages were negative towards men. Sad that making fun of men is a sport! Changed rating from 3 to 1 as the rude response from the manager proves they really can't handle an honest review!

For a very reasonable price you get all the salad and vegetables and soup and a meat serving you can eat. And that's just the buffet - there's a giant menu of food served. The Jamaican jerked chicken is very good, from personal experience.

I honestly can't fathom how this establishment is rated so highly. My wife and I stopped her on our way back to Asheville from Charlotte and the food was just awful. The way to order was just fine, I see a lot of review complaining about the meat being separate, but that was fine. We both had chopped steak which was over cooked to dead, they were both extremely tough and more or less inedible. Not a thing on the cold bar seemed fresh. All of the lettuce was in various states of going bad and the toppings all looked several days old and on the verge of turning. Nothing on the hot bar was eaten by either of us. Nothing was appetizing in the slightest. It was either very over cooked or looked very old as though it was reheated leftovers from the previous week. There were plenty of southern staples on the hot bar but frankly it was just not looking as though it were edible. It seems as though the restaurant preps too much food and then reuses rather than making anything fresh. We did have the lunch buffet so perhaps that was part of it however that doesn't explain the overcooked beef or overcooked bar as items don't cook on the warmers. Would definitely not recommend for lunch or dinner, others have posted breakfast is better so perhaps try that if you're feeling adventurous.

This place is awesome. The food is delicious, prices are fair, service is always great. The ladies are so friendly. The atmosphere is so fun. And they have some of the best old time candy. Found things I havent seen since childhood. Anyone remember Violets? They have them... Get there early if going for the breakfast buffet, which is great. You will wait, they pack them in. Theres a reason they have in business forever.

This was literally the best breakfast buffet that I've ever eaten at. The food was really good it's the first time I've ever eaten that a restaurant and actually enjoyed them and went back to get more. the bacon was a little bit too crispy for my taste but that happens even when you have cooked to order breakfast places. Stopped for an easy dinner on the way home to charlotte and we were not disappointed. The buffet is a great deal and filled with amazing hot sides, vegetable options, fruit, and salad. The “grilled chicken” I ordered to get a healthy option was definitely pan fried, but super tender and delicious (worth the extra calories!) The highlight was the French toast casserole for dessert! Mmmmm. So good I forgot to take a picture!

Absolutely loved this place! I loved the breakfast buffet. The nostalgic vibe of this restaurant was awesome. I loved the decor. It had a very cozy and homey feel. The wait staff, hostess, and cashier all had such warm and inviting personalities. The little retro candy shop was an awesome touch on your way out. I loved everything about Abele's! I hope to go back!

Abele's had been an old standby for years but I had not been there for a while. Yesterday was a return trip and the breakfast bar had just closed so we had an early lunch from the hot bar. It was okay, nothing to really write home about but it was filling. Our server was extremely nice and courteous going the extra mile to make us feel welcome.

This used to be a good restaurant but it's going downhill pretty badly. The only thing good is the hot veggie bar. I had the meat loaf... It was a loaf of some kind of meat, not sure what kind. I was done with my meal before the mystery meat loaf can out. The service must have been having a bad day. Nobody smiled, greeted me, and seemed to be busy doing something else. I got one glass of water with no refills. I will definitely think twice about coming here again. I feel the meat loaf for the second time now...

My family took me to Abele's while I visited them a month ago. The food was absolutely delicious. They have buffet style and menu ordering. We chose buffet style. Children 5 and under eat for free. There were plenty of items on the buffet to feed even the pickiest of eaters. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. I hope to go back on my next visit.

Food was pretty good! I ate the buffet on Friday eve, app $12 There were not any meat buffet but they had some on the menu for you to choose from. A country style steak and gravy covered an entire plate By itself when they brought it out. They dessert bar was not included.

Good family restaurant with various choices on the menu from sandwiches to burgers to full plates. Good salad & food bar. Good value for the money. Service is usually great and orders get to you quickly. I can't think of any complaints that we have ever had with the food or service.

There was a line out the door when we arrived around 1pm on a Sunday afternoon, but it moved quickly. We all got the Soup, Salad, and Vegetable bar. The food was good, there were a lot of different options, and it was reasonably priced. I'd definitely go back.

Went for breakfast today. It was about a 25 minute wait. But well worth it! The buffet is loaded with everything you can think of and then some. Everyone was nice. Never had to wait on drinks. Very professional. This is a great place to eat. I highly recommend this place. Don’t let the line fool you. It goes fast. We will be back

I’ve only ate here once, I had the grilled chicken breast it had no flavor or seasoning and the food on the hot bar wasn’t hot. I would consider eating here again just not grilled chicken and maybe coming at an earlier time so the buffet is hot.

The breakfast bar is decent, like a few other people have said the women especially the older ones that work there are flat out rude. This is the response from the owner, I had to copy it from my email since those responses don't show on here. Response from the owner an hour ago If you were working at 83 , you might not be too happy either . Most people love her. She been here for a long time . Sorry she came off as rude to you. So I guess if you're old it's ok to be rude to paying customers. This wasn't a one time thing but it will be the last.

Sirloin tips, peppers, and onions were burnt. Waitress made a comment about me ordering them well done. I told her well done but not burnt. Then when I got my plate the tips were not cooked well done. After 2 or 3 more times of sending them back, I finally got my tips cooked well done without being burnt but alot less tips on the plate. Not happy with the waitress or cook. In response to the owner's reply: I sent my sirloin tips back the first time because the tips, onions, and peppers were burnt. Not only did they taste burnt, you could see that they were burnt. What I wanted was my tips to be cooked well done without being burnt. I also wanted my full order of tips instead of getting less and less each time they came back. By the time my tips were cooked well done like I ordered, the amount of tips I got had decreased by almost half and the people I was with had finished eating.

My husband and I just had the breakfast buffet at Abele's. They really had a big buffet selection but some of the meats(bacon, livermush and chicken) we're fried to death. The potatoes had been sitting awhile and we're not so good. The French toast slices, french toast sticks and the biscuits were also dry and hard. They were other things were good. The grits, gravy, eggs and fruit were fine. This place is busy and they have a very good atmosphere and great service, however I think they need to fix some foods in smaller quantities more often. I know this is extra work but it makes for better quality. We actually ate supper there the other night and the vegetable bar was great. Will definitely be going back for that.

Lots of seating so getting in and sitting down was lass than 10 minutes. Very happy with breakfast, made for a fun adventurous day in Morganton.

The hot bar was awful the beef tip from the kitchen was good. We asked about the hard crunchy dried macaroni to be changed out from the bar 4 different times and it never was. So the green beans was the ONLY thing that was edible and the salad. The 2 star are only for the beef tips because the baked potato was hard and cold it wouldn't melt soft butter. We were very disappointed and won't be going back.

This iconic restaurant is a feast for the eyes as well as the mouth. The decor in this fantastic place is worth the visit all by itself. As you can see in the pictures that I post is a part of this review you have everything from a historic jukebox to a full-size replica of Michael Jordan. The little sayings on the wall provide wisdom for the ages as well. And while buffet food is a challenge to keep fresh and delicious they do a great job of this here. Our server explained the menu expertly and provided us prompt accurate service well. This is a place that we shall visit again.

Super fast, great service. Great food selection & taste. An added plus is they have Cheerwine & Fox News! Things to work on: Remove the sign at the old restaurant. When you are not from here, getting off the interstate, it appears they have closed down. The employee wearing the black ballcap, glasses & white t-shirt needs to get to work and stop standing in the way of customers. Unless his job is laughing & joking around, the business is wasting $ on him.

Too expensive. The all you can eat doesn't include meat, just over cooked vegetables and salad. Meat is extra, and it's one piece only. Edit: Nice reply from the owner... yes, I have eaten food at other places. Good food. You should try it. I've eaten the overcooked vegetables from your restaurant as well. Instead of being snarky, why not work on your issues? Edit 2: your breakfast buffet is much better. It's the only time I eat at your restaurant. If you want a good filling breakfast this is your place. Otherwise I'd avoid it.

I highly recommend Abele's Family Restaurant. The food was great and the service was fantastic. I always had drink, plates were removed after they were emptied, and the waiter was always on hand. The whipped strawberry cheesecake was a special treat. Try them. They are well worth it.

I was told about this place from an extended family member. It is buffet style breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Really good southern comfort food and the whole place is decorated with antique items. The breakfast buffet is definitely the "bomb" but, the dinner was limited to just one meat choice. Still a bargain for either breakfast, lunch, or dinner! Staff was great in the morning but, a little bit bitter in the evening. It is all about customer service guys!

Really good food. If you order buffet be careful, all you can eat doesn't include everything unless you order all 3 bars. Menu is humungous almost anything you could want. Food is served hot and delicious. Bars are usually well stocked and refilled quickly. Employees are very nice and friendly. Great prices for buffet, be careful when ordering sandwiches, its usually just the sandwich price, no fries or sides. Not sure how drinks are added, some included with sandwich (really confusing, so just order and hope...lol)

A fine family eatery. Great southern food buffet full of made from scratch favorites, large salad bar, fresh fruit, and soup selections. Best Liver and Onions ever eaten at a restaurant. Exceptional! Excellent! The food on this buffet exceeded me and my wife's expectations. The food is the best quality around and probably the best breakfast we ever had. We drove 1-1/2 hours in the rain and it was well worth it! We had to wait in line for 15 minutes but they're always packed so get there early on the weekends.

Stopped on our way home from Ashville and had the Sunday buffett for dinner. We had the fried pork chops for our meat. Not a lot of flavor but they were good. The buffet of sides gave us plenty to choose from. My husband loved the cheese biscuits. They have a good salad bar and we enjoyed a cup of fresh coffee after dinner. A decent meal for the price.

Has really really nice buffet of side foods that are Oooo so yummy but no meat. You have to order meat plus the buffet. And I highly highly recommend the bread pudding. I just moved to the area from Ohio over a year ago so I was a first timer and will be back. Restaurant was nice inside my son loved all the decorations.

If you don't know how to cook or what food is suppose to taste like, you'll think it's fantastic. The meatloaf is really bad, the mashed potatoes taste like they came from a box, and the green beans taste like they were right out of a can.

Ordered a medium rare steak to-go. The inside of it was purple when I got it home. Had to finish it on a frying pan. I can remember when the place was Shoney’s—seemed like it was better then. But they make enough money from locals who’ve been going there for years (me included) that they can afford to let quality slide, little by little. We’ll keep coming back because that’s where we’ve always gone...until we don’t.
