REVIEWS OF The Stonewall Inn IN New York

Today, there was a woman (short and blond hair) being very rude at the bar. She asked me for the name on my ID and I said it, then she asked me "where is your ID come from?" and I said "from us(?)" and she got mad. Gurl, my ID is from USA (immigration office), not from any state. If you don't know how to deal with clients don't work at a busy bar.

Douglas Godfrey

Being Gay myself I hear this is a Stunning Gay Bar. I only wish we had something like this in Cape Town South Africa.

Tirso Montero

This is a historical and legendary place for the LGBTQ community.

After traveling 300 miles by bus, spending a half hour on the subway, and walking for miles around the busy streets of New York City aimlessly to find the one place we wanted to go to, we finally made our way to the Stonewall Inn. We each ordered a drink totaling $15 dollars and I tipped the very nice female bartender $5, to which she was very grateful. Having not bought a single souvenir at this point, my girlfriend and I decided since we had gone all this way we'd each like to get a shirt from the Stonewall Inn to represent how far the LGBT community has come, how far we had come, and to remember our visit. We stood at the bar waiting and waiting until the older male bartender finally approached us. We told him we would like to get two t-shirts totaling $45, while only having a short amount of time to get back to our bus to return home. We were completely taken away when this less than gentleman bartender proceeded to say in a rather rude way, "NO t-shirts. The liquor is more important, I can't have people waiting." It hadn't mattered to this man that we had stood at the bar waiting for service and the only thing he seemed to care about was that people were buying alcohol. Not to mention, the t-shirts and prices are displayed behind the bar with the prices listed for sale. As a person who works in retail and bar tending, I would like to say this: Money is money. It doesn't matter if someone walks into my store and there's 30 people around the bar, if they want a bottle of wine or a t-shirt, they will get the service they came in for. The Stonewall lost some business from us due to the rudeness and inconsideration of the bartender. I may add that it was busy in there, but all customers were being taken care of, except for us. Would it have been better for us not to spend the $45 on t-shirts and to buy another $15 worth of drinks? I can't seem to figure out how that makes sense. So thank you to the very rude bartender who left us less than satisfied on our visit to your lovely place.....

The original. And still worth visiting for any and all people. Friendly atmosphere, great dancing, and strong drinks.

Andrea Aquines

I have never had a bad experience at this bar. It's a great place to dance. There is a very diverse crowd. I personally love their karaoke and any special events they have. It's always a good time at stonewall

Ed García Conde

Love this place simply because it's stuck in a time warp of 1969 when the Stonewall riots began the gay revolution here. If you're looking for a classy place then this isn't for you. This isn't your typical bar as its no frills as you get. People come here with friends and just for the history of it all.

Cassandra Complex

Profits off of the actions of black trans women and then turns around and threatens to call the police on one during Pride for reading off the names of murdered black trans women. I will never in my life spend a single cent supporting this business.

Stephanie Fritsch

I finally was able to go to the place I've always wanted to go being a transgender woman. Stonewall inn is like hallowed ground for me because The Stonewall riots were started by a transgender woman standing up for her rights. My bucket list on that has been completely checked. I strongly suggest anyone in the lgbtq go to the Inn. I am a transgender rights Advocate and activist.

Music Anyway

A legendary bar, today still very nice but a bit lacking atmosphere

Dan James

The female bar tender ruined the whole experience for us, she was so rude to the point where it was just uncomfortable. I also noticed her being rude to other people that had just walked into the bar and were wanting to order a drink.

Geoffrey Fleming

Historic bar where the Stonewall Riots occurred as a precursor to the Pride Movement. While the place is a historic landmark the bar itself isn't great. Very subdued crowd. Upstairs was a little more fun with a drag show. Expected a lot more from a place with such a historic background.

Austin Fisher

I can't help but feel humbled when entering this building. Just knowing the past and seeing the different notices around made me appreciate the world for what it's become (since the old days at least). Fantastic drag show by Logan Hardcore, we were extremely entertained and impressed by his abilities! The spot has awesome staff, and Lola was an amazing server and performer. Always attentive, friendly, and genuine. The site has lots of space and two floors with separate themes, so there's always some variety going on. An absolute pleasure to visit and a must-see for any LGBT tourists in New York.

Tanuki Suki

Never actually got to visit inside, but I loved seeing how they dressed it all up in color for pride month, and I loved visiting since it has so much history to it.

Shaun Skura

A classic. The birthplace of Gay rights and a do not miss when in the west village. Great beer selection and a varying nighttime entertainment venue. Great for the day and even better at night! Gays and lesbians mix at one of the homes to LGBTQ culture. Pay your respects, play pool or celebrate diversity. It’s the place!

Michael Adam Reale

This place is an historic landmark. Great location, great staff and good drinks.

QS

Not a your typical gay bar. It's more like a touristic spot due do its history, where straight people likes to visit. The bartenders could be better. I don't think I have a reason to return.

Aaisha Salik

100% worth checking out

Andrew W

What a wonderful bar, and of course where gay pride started. The barmen are friendly and service is great and wonderful drinks. Highly recommended. Also there is a wonderful park out the front dedicated to pride.

Br Fe

This is a unique bar in NYC that if you’re part of the LGBTQ community you must make a visit to ( of course everyone is welcome ). Just said if you’re part of the LGBTQ community because of its history of our community that this bar have. It was where out community started coming together and fighting for our rights and it was where we could have a little of getting together with members of our community when it was “forbidden” to be ourselves. It seems crazy that this times existed in the past. Just love this place

Damien Reed

Worst place to have the worst night of your life. I arrived and read the news clippings and plaques that make this a historical site. I've looked forward to this for years to see the cradle of the gay rights movement. After paying too much for drinks, loosing my ID to zero assistance from a homophobic staff, and having to take a bus home out of state afterwards because I never found my ID. I say let it die and become a museum. The current owners and staff don't deserve your money and I'll never go back again.

Amanda Barron

My favorite place in the whole city.

Alyx

"Paolo is a sweetheart." Is the general consensus. He just got a nomination for GLAM Awards - Best Bartender. This iconic landmark is friendly & safe for "friends of the family" too. It is worth a visit to where the LGBT Pride & Rights Movement began.

Joseph Licitra

Packed historic gay bar in the middle of greenwich village Manhattan. So much fun dancing and flirting with these boys.

Valencio Pires

#StraightOuttaDC Love Madonna

Jared Billman

Iconic. You can’t go wrong coming here for a fun evening and a dose of our gay history!

Bryce Caster

If you are looking for the Stonewall National Monument NPS stamp, just ask the bartender. This historic gay bar was the site of a famous series of riots in 1969. For this reason, it is considered one of the most important places in LGBT history. The bar itself is dark and feels historic. I really enjoyed chatting with the bartender. All in all a wonderful experience.

Fabian Medina

To be honest.... nice place but the bartender is the worst!

Joshua Newsome

Ultimate disrespect, if it's a two drink minimum, it has to be stated before purchasing tickets. Equality & respect is needed. No need for disrespectful staff, that prevents them from servicing customers. Word of mouth can hinder this establishment.

Stephan B

First time into the Inn and what a wonderful time warp into history! It's a darkened room with a great atmosphere with reasonable priced drinks. I went up to the room upstairs to watch my friend perform his music and comedy and paid $5 which was fine.. but the barman upstairs came up to me and my friend and said it's a minmum of two drinks upstairs? I didn't buy another 2 drinks but thought that was pretty stupid.

Amber Jervis

A must see considering it's historical Importance. The drinks were inexpensive, but the overall feel was a tad lackluster. Granted, it was a Sunday afternoon, yet I expected a little more. It took a little while to get drinks, but I believe the bartender was by himself. Just as the other reviewer mentioned, buying a t-shirt was a little, eh, let's say problematic. My wife wanted to buy one as a souvenir, however the bartender was "too busy" to retrieve one. We waited an additional 30 minutes for his back-up to arrive, however it never happened.

Maria Julia Schardosim

It was very emotional to come here and see this place that represents so much for the lgbtq+ comunity. Totally recommend for everyone to visit and go to the bar.

Stuart Walker

Worth a visit

Jeannette Arrowood

had fun here singing on stage on an odd night out. fun to come with your gay friends because hell - they're loads of fun and they can meet old friends and new here. great history here, too. and love the drink system during karaoke!

Paula’s Designs

We had a great time here! ❤️❤️ I stopped by during the week and it was daytime. Not a whole lot going on, but there was plenty for us to see. My friend bought a drink, while I wandered around the bar taking pictures. This is where the gay rights movement began, and this historic bar should mean a great deal for those in the lgbt community. The blood, sweat, and violence others had to endure...just so we can live the way we do today. I felt a sense of pride when I visited and grateful for the opportunity. I will never forget those who fought for lgbt rights, and those who continue to fight today!!

Miguel Oliveira, Jr.

Iconic place. I haven't been inside it, so cannot say a thing about the service. However, one should definitely stop here and take a picture of the building.

Francis Rocco

Amazing bar. Not only is it an important part of history but it's a fun bar for today too. Bartenders and friendly and drinks are relatively cheap. The upstairs is fun for dancing and they holding pretty fun weekly events.

Andres Cardona

Worst service in whole NYC! Blonde lady in the bar has been rude to me twice. Historic or not you gotta look after your customers!!!

Paulette Schneider

Went as part of a tour, by Jared Markowitz, which rocked. Bar wasn't opened yet, staff tidying up outside were rather surly and rude.

TOMAS COLON

God bless all the gay men & women that stood firm for the gay rights movement, Well done brothers & sisters.

Soo Jung

I got assaulted here and no one cared, not the bartender or any gay man or woman. No one helped me. I cannot come here without being groped by straight men and told that I’m straight. It’s not safe to come here alone.

Karl Hillstrom

it is much smaller than I had pictured it in my mind. It was amazing to be at this historical site. I could close my eyes and imagine Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera and all the other queens we can thank for launching a movement!

Kiran Rijhsinghani

Obviously the historic significance makes this a noteworthy spot. In addition, it has a wonderful vibe and great events. The drag shows on the first Sunday of the month are super fun! It's a neighborhood and national gem

Brad Stephenson

Iconic location and a must-see. Very low key compared to its modern rivals though. Also takes a LONG time for the bartender to serve you even after they see you and wink at you.

Mark N.

A great place to brighten up gray everyday life, have coffee and relax. Recommend. On weekdays, a lot of people) fun)

jonathan dunavant

Wonderful place, Bartenders friendly, drinks strong.

Winston Appleyard

The historic significance of this place of resistance and rights is very important to the lbgti community and is without question. It's official birthplace is here. And it remains more as less as it was, not the hippest place in town but it wasn't then and says more about the marginalization of a minority than anything else. Highly recommend.

Christopher L Cloud

What an Awesome Place!!!We visited on Sunday and had such a Great time, one lone bartender sorry sure wish I knew his name handled the Very Large downstairs bar crowd Flawlessly!!! Very Friendly, Outgoing and made everyone feel welcome , served efficiently never missing a beat!!! Kudos to him and an Excellent Experience !!!

Jules Larrobis

Its charm lies in its unassuming facade. It looks like an ordinary pub from the outside however, you will be treated to an assortment of vibes once you enter. The doors are manned by a security which requires you to present an ID for age verification. Drinks are priced between 7-10 dollars. Performances usually start around midnight or around 11 PM. It can get a bit crowded however the fun lies in the crowd it draws.

Brett Nickol

Best afternoon spot for a pint and chat with new friends.

Alexander Schmidt

Nice people, and the Stone Wall IPA (Brooklyn Brewery) is tasty!

Madison Fischer

Back in the day, the place was always a blast. But they really need to revamp the inside. I know it’s historic, and no one appreciates that more than me. But it used to be so much cleaner and when you walk in now it’s just dingy and smells musky. It will always have patrons because of its amazing history, but maybe they could just spruce the inside up- bring it into this century. All us gays aren’t hiding in the dark and dingy closets anymore, so the Stone Wall in should maybe brighten itself up a bit too. History doesn’t have to be old.

frank bettencourt

I had a blast.

Claire Miller

Such a great place!!! Bartender was kinda rude though:( but I love it here

The Yoga Chick

The Inn was closed but it sits across the street from the Stonewall Memorial that has a few benches. My daughter read about this spot in her Sociology class and really wanted to visit.

terry carter

Friendly staff, loved the monument opposite

Joseph Berry

Amazing place and learned so much feom the bartender.

Jordan C

I get that this place is part of history and I like that but it's kind of like a medium place conical whole in the wall bartenders are not as nice as they could be drinks are ridiculous The music is definitely outdated the scenery could be a little better they be serving some food or what not to have a nice pool table selection which is really awesome just feel like he could be a little more neighborhood like maybe add some better lighting in the bathrooms definitely serving some food there's like two people bartenders down below some old guy which is obnoxious Lee rude it's got to be more careful in and somebody that he doesn't know not saying that I would could just knock him right in the face I've been the better gay bars in the city

Darryl P

This place discriminates against straight people. For a group that claims inclusiveness, they are incredibly intolerant towards those who identify differently from them. 0 STARS!!!

BogDan Savatulin

Great spot. Absolutely rude bartender, no knowledge of how to server drinks let alone talk to people!!!

was rather beautiful. The candles and stone walls give it a romantic feel. The outside patio is just as nice with hanging candles, sofas, etc. The host/waiter was very friendly as… read more

An iconic LGBT theme bar with weekly performances like freak-out every Wednesday. Come support ur local queens in great shows here see website oR IG . UPSTAIRS is a lounge and a dance floor w a stage. Downstairs is a bar pool table and small tables . This place has history and it's a must for all visitors

Lance P

A must visit institution for any lgbtqa person. Divey gay bar with 2 floors and lots of history. Top floor hosts drag shows during the weekends. Definitely more tourists here than locals.

Ronan Rogers

Could do with a bust of Stonewall Jackson to give some much needed authenticity

Asim Shrestha

Not sure if the bartender lady discriminated me for my race or looks but I definitely felt it. Shame!

Danny Mercier

Fun visit in NYC. A must see if only for its moment in gay history

Suzanne Fortenberry

A must do for your NYC trip

Bridget Fay

Such a fun spot. Cheep drinks and incredible fun nice bartenders. Everyone is incredible kind and welcoming. Wonderful to get to enjoy a drink and dancing at such a historic place

Kat Mac Kenzie

Thus facility recently refused entry to someone with a service dog. The disabled person, who is blind, explained the law regarding seevice animals and showed them the ADA on her phone. She was still denied entry. This facility is NOT a place of inclusion and should be avoided.

I will never forget those who fought for lgbt rights, and those who continue to fight today. I have no idea what the bar is like at nights or on weekends. I imagine it being busy. It's dark inside, but I imagine they want to preserve the bar and keep it as it was back when before the gay rights movement.

Tere GB

Always a fun time here with some friends. Really casual crowd. I’ve been here a few times. There’s dj music or a drag show upstairs, depends on the night. Entertaining time when you come here. Really cheap drinks, but if you use a card there’s a two drink minimum. There’s two levels. Downstairs is pretty much a dive-y bar: pool table and juke box kind of thing. The upstairs has a dance floor. Mixed crowd. The drinks are pretty strong the last few times I’ve been there. One of the fun bars I’ve been to here in NYC.

Didn't disappoint!

HAPPY 50th BIRTHDAY ENJOY THE PARTY

GCAS Lectures Lectures

Awful. We went there in the afternoon and there were a few people sitting depressingly at the bar. No atmosphere! We were happy to see it due it’s historical significance but if you want fun go to the duplex piano bar on the same street. Stonewall was such a letdown.

Sucks, Seltzer + Coke for $10?!.. too much noise from TV shows instead of music... that's basic.. expected much more

Stonewall: Come for the history, don't stay for the bar. Having come to Stonewall for a friends birthday, I had known about its place in the history of the fight for gay rights, but not the raucous bar and club it had become in the present day. Showing up on a Saturday night at around 9, I had figured the bar would be decently busy, but to my surprise, I found myself jam packed in with what seemed like half of Manhattan. Managing to squeeze my way to the bar, I ordered a rum and coke, which seemed to be mainly ice, with a pour of Coke and a spritz of rum, all served in a tiny glass. After working my way upstairs into the main dance floor section, where it seemed like the other half of Manhattan was packed into a smaller room, I met up with some friends and tried to have a good time dancing. However, given the packed crowds, every few seconds was interrupted with an elbow or bump to the side. As the night went on, and more people kept pushing in, we finally conceded to the space limitations and called it a night. Even though Stonewall was a seminal part of the Gay rights fight (and has a national monument park outside honoring that fight), there are better bars in the neighborhood that you can drink and dance at.

Historical place and very nice people. Not as expensive as you may think.

Tay Lamar

You’d think that Blacks would be welcomed here with no issues because of a Black transwoman historic movement, however, Blacks are not welcomed here 50 years later. Insanely racist and toxic environment. Since we’re not welcomed there, I will be working to expose the egregious atmosphere and get this place shut down permanently until LGBTQ can be inclusive of Blacks who are the actual pioneers of NYC gay culture.

Manuel Colón

As a Gay man traveling to New York in June, I felt it was my obligation to take a pilgrimage to Stone Wall Inn. They have some fun bag/shirts and other merchandise for purchase. They also have news articles on the wall that highlight the riots. Otherwise, it's just a chill, old-school drinking hole.

Bradley Cain

Historic and really fun!

Thomas Clements

Love everything this place stands for alas the female bar staff could be a little more welcoming!

70sMGrl4Ever

I love the Stonewall its outta sight! Me rocking the thong on the outside of my tight jeans!

Hemali Kumar

Great vibes and great place to grab a drink after work with coworkers or friends.

michala cellerova

Place of LGBT history. Check it out on Google!

Ben Young

It’s all about the history. The bar is cozy and locals friendly :)

Ian Ford

Aside from its rich and important history, The Stonewall Inn is a lot of fun. The staff is friendly and down-to-earth and everyone feels welcome. You can't beat their drink prices, especially in New York City. Everything about this place is great.

Verwend N

They can only ride this Stonewall Inn history for so long. The people who work and run this place are nothing but incompetent low class losers who probably grew up in Newark.

samy glavez

A must see for anyone learning about the history of the LGBT movement in the USA. Lady Bunny still shows up once a week. People are nice and friendly and it's a great place overall. Definitely would recommend it.

Samuel Sherrard

the waiters said i was thicc

Charles Sleep

Meh! As a historical landmark, this site would be just as well served by a brass plaque on the sidewalk. Two drink minimum, so $10 for a fountain coke, $1.99 to plug my phone into a charger that barely works, zero food, all the ambiance of a Nevada brothel. Sad waste of a trip.

Steve Bollman

Great gay bar in new York city. Congratulations on your 50th anniversary.

blasianFMA

This is the historic gay bar where it all started. It has a great atmosphere and is welcoming to all people, gays and straights alike. I regularly attend on Monday nights which are, apparently, drag queen bingo nights. I get read (gay speak) every single time I walk through the door by the queen mother, but it's all in fun, and it's hilarious. Love the place and the prices are great. -blasianFMA

Jenny Cabreja

I visited this pub with my daughter. We had a wonderful time. The staff is very friendly and prices are reasonable.

David Muñoz

Love this place. Great music, nice bartenders. The only issue is that they didn’t announce the drag show and that’s one of the main reasons we went there. We didn’t even notice there was a second floor since it says EXIT we thought it was a forbidden area.

Francisco Matheu

This place is a safe place ❤️

Liz Torres

Great show, drinks and overall service. Excellent place to go and enjoy the atmosphere with friends.

Adrian Sanchez

Low key old casual and fun bar. The name says it all, feels like you are back in the 60's here with gay rights movement. Good place to go for happy hour after a work day. Staff is awesome and friendly

Steve S

Very welcoming! We had a great evening enjoying drinks in this historic little spot. Both bartenders were really nice. Lots of fun!

Vinson Kashiwaeda

Worst service in NYC. Take your picture but your shirt and gtfo

Ekhym Wethered

Came in for the first time since Obama designated The Stonewall Inn as a national monument. Great crowd. 2 for 1 happy hour.

DJ Kinney

Wonderful atmosphere and wonderful people. Despite the police with machine guns outside. Yikes. This was just after Orlando, so it was to be expected. It's also quite historic!

James William Gross

Historically a must do! But one drink is enough. Unfortunately some of the staff are not as welcoming as you might expect at this awesome landmark. Kind of a disappointment. There are friendlier places in the village!

Chad Tuckerman

Fun place, no judgement, pool table and decent beer. The historical status adds to the ambiance. Do your due diligence and read about this history of this place before arriving.

Ronnie Mora

Decent Gay bar. The original gay pub. Friendly people and staff :)

Aileen Chu

So you guys tried to stop a black trans woman from speaking.....at stonewall....on the anniversary of stonewall...........and literally told her to “shut up” It’s disappointing that a place with a history deeply entwined with lgbtq poc (spec. black trans women-did you guys really forget your own history?) has turned into the antithesis of what pride should be.

Jake Theobald

A defining place in history regardless of your orientation. Although predominantly a gay bar all are welcome. Atmosphere is energetic and friendly, drinks are mixed strong.

Frank Segura

Great place! Very mixed crowd, nice show, enough bathrooms, space and 2 bars. Mist visit

Good place to hang out

So wow. The long story short of it is I was absolutely appalled at the way we were treated by the bartenders on Thursday evening (early Friday morning). We walked in at 2:30 a.m., were carded by the door man and told to have a good time. This is my second trip to NYC and my first trip to the Stonewall Inn. As someone who identifies as gay/queer, it was important for me to pay my respects on such a monumental weekend. But the good intention and fun stops there. Once we reached the bar, a female with brown hair in a pony tail and tattoos refused to greet us. We stood there and waited and waited and waited - the other bartender, a slender gentleman with longer hair, made eye contact not once, not twice, but three times and he also refused to greet us. After waiting 18 minutes, and being skipped over for many others at the bar, I finally asked the brunette, tattooed bartender if we could be served. She LITERALLY scoffed in my face, rolled her eyes, and stated "she was busy with other customers". (It honestly just got uncomfortable) She poured her drinks for this other patron and then proceeded to go to a gentleman (friend, they hugged at the end) at the side of the bar and lallygag, laugh and essentially "complain" about whatever it is she was upset by. It became super awkward. *Very awkward* To the point I stated to her, "I'm sorry, we are visiting and just want to get drinks, not sure what we did?" (Which was absolutely nothing, her and the other guy were rude the minute we walked up, why am I apologizing so you can do your job?) She continued to ignore me and act like I wasn't even speaking to her. So we thought, let's give it a few minutes, maybe she's busy. (HUGE benefit of the doubt here, I bartended for ten years and have never exhibited or extended such rudeness in my life.) At almost the thirty minute mark she finally says "what do you want?" We tell her and she pours two paltry drinks for my friend and I and immediately wants to close our tab. We close it, and because we understand these are people's livelihoods, we left a $10 tip. (She had no problem entering and keeping that though.) For one, I was completely unaware she owned the bar and could make judgement calls on when and why she wanted to or didn't want to serve drinks just because it's late, she's miserable or just doesn't want to serve strangers. Two, oh wait, she's not the owner, and thankfully I'm not either, because there is no way I would employ anyone like this on my staff. Read previous reviews here and on Facebook, you can be assured this isn't the first time and it certainly will not be the last. She was nasty and didn't deserve a dime and she knows it. Extending this behavior to other bar staff is also immature at best, I say this because the other bartender appeared newer. None the less, it's just common courtesy and doing your job, which is customer service, and it should have just come to him naturally. Hopefully you can look forward to whatever excuse she may extend to you for her rude behavior but if you have cameras, video, etc, by all means please view the footage, her actions speak for themselves. (She finally made us those (terrible) drinks, right? Absolutely no reason for the epic and childish meltdown she exhibited at the bar, especially on this weekend) My review is for the bar staff only, not the inn itself, which had great patrons and good music, and polite door staff.

Karolina Swierk

Nothing special!!!

Where lgbt rights movement started.

Tokyo Diablo

I went by the bar on a recent trip to NYC. I always wanted to visit because it’s legendary. I am surprised how much of a dive the place is considering it’s historical importance. The interiors were really old and the bathrooms were not very clean. I think that the owner should consider updating the interiors (still keeping many of the original elements) and give the place a makeover and make it more upscale and modern. Maybe they should charge a cover in order to finance a renovation? It’s historically such an important bar that I think that it should be much grander than what it is currently. It really should be a must see destination for all gay tourists. Also, I would have loved to have bought a Stonewall T Shirt as a souvenir but the bartender was too busy. They should have a separate little area to purchase these items and please have them available for sale during the day.

Xade Undamann

Fair drink prices and every LGBT person should visit this historic landmark of the community

Now 70 years old, I danced the Stonewall and was there for many raids leading up to the riot. I remember how brutal and intimidating the cops were. We had no refrigeration - no beer. No running water just an ice water bath at the bars, plastic cups. The booze was stored in the bartenders cars/trunks......also hidden behind the stone wall in the disco room. We had two chrome kitchen tables, one in each room with a few kitchen chairs scattered about. NYC liquor board would not give a license to a gay bar, hence the bar was raided cops looking for their payoffs! The smaller slow dance room is now the bar!! The disco bar was through the stonewall into the store next door!!

Christopher Dugan

A wonderful bar, the bar staff are adorable and the multinational clientele friendly. However, we received the most abhorrent welcome from the miserable fat bouncer who was rude, obnoxious and overtly threatening. Despite having a few good night's, our group choose not to return. Such a terrible shame, however, we should have felt welcome and safe at this venue.

Elina Kats

This place looks like it's aimed at late teens and early twenties. There is no class, it's very shabby, couches downstairs are torn... the crowd is badly dressed. I'm a successful woman looking to meet other successful classy women and this is not a place to do it. Had one drink there with a friend and hung out downstairs a bit and that was it. No food served here. Would not be returning.

Jason Kaminski

Stonewall Inn is a fantastic place to start a bar crawl in the west village. It's hard to believe we were standing in the same place where such violence occurred during the 1969 uprising. It was nice to see the various photos placed around the bar documenting that era. We went on a Monday and enjoyed a solid dirty martini upstairs. There's a small stage for shows and dancing. Downstairs there were several dozen people hanging out playing drag bingo. The queen calling the numbers was a total hoot. She sprinkled in lots of trivia -- I wasn't sure how it affected the game but it made it a little more interesting nonetheless. She loved heckling the patrons as they entered and especially when they left. We played a few rounds of bingo but never won one of the many prizes which included vintage porn dvds and a selection of kitchy stuffed dolls. This old school bar with super friendly service is certainly worth a visit when you're in NYC -- to see this landmark is historic and it's just one of several other bars in the area so be sure to stop in.

I’ve been to gay Mecca.

Brunch here was amazing. The food was so filling and good; it makes you feel like you got your money's worth :) Can't wait to come back and try other things on the menu!

David Patterson

Shows are ok but I like the shows in Houston Texas better

sara

Okay bar... but a must see while in NYC if you are gay and care about our history.

Miranda Miranda

One of my favorite bar, in this place I met a wonderful man

Mary Martinez

always provides, always serves, and does a goddam great job at it! Remember tip your local drag queens and bartenders!

After paying a cover to get upstairs and with a drink in my hand. An old woman bartender proceeded to tell me that if I didn’t buy minimum of two drink from her I could not stay. Being as this is supposed to be the pioneering spot for gays I was extremely hurt and felt even more disrespected but her tone and interaction with me.

Where the gay liberation movement began on June 1969...

2 floors. Nice drag shows. A lot of history of course. Tourist destination for sure.

Everything I could have wanted. I loved it here. Low key and surprising at the same time. If I lived here I would drink here.

Juliana de Campos

There is no better place to leave it all on the dance floor than upstairs at Stonewall on a Friday night.

Casey Penk

Lovely place. Very down-to-Earth, spacious, with two floors, and a diverse crowd. Lots of lesbians, which you do not always see. It is surreal to go here and you will have an amazing time.

Steven Lastname

It’s ok. Needs a bit of a refresh inside.

Matt R

Historic gay bar where the pride movement was born. I was told by a local that only tourists go there. But he told me that while he was sitting at the bar. I think maybe only tourists admit they go there. I had fun and the bartenders were friendly.

Alexis Rainery

Obv worth going for historical purposes. It’s really cool that it doesn’t feel like one big tourist attraction, still feels like a small local gay bar

Erica Coombs

Have a game of pool or a boogie on the dance floor

Tam Nguyen

Great atmosphere

Zachary Stinchfield

Went every night and I do not regret it

Kalle Garpvall

Great crowd, good karaoke bar, friendly and open to everyone. Good for meeting new people, amazing drag queen show going on upstairs during our visit.

Richy Garcia

I had a nice time in here a n the bartender wad amazing and welcoming!!! Loved the place with lots of history!!!

Katrina Cerqua

honestly the worst place I've ever been. I was there for 25min waiting for a drink and both my friend and I went up the this older Male bartender and he completely ignored us the whole time and served everyone around us. seems like he was more interested in serving guys that he thought were cute. never again will I go here and I suggest unless your a cute boy dont yo there either.

This place is nice for a photo opp. Pretty much ONLY for that. It was quite a downer when it came to stepping inside it. I was really excited to be at this historical place with a friend who was in town from London, whom I was meeting after 12+ years. I was visiting from out of state too, and it was my first ever visit to this bar. I thought it would be awesome for us to meet there. However, there was this really rude drag queen who was the MC for some Bingo thingy happening that night. It seems everyone there was simply trying to keep a half-hearted smile pasted on their faces as she kept trying to insult people in the name of humor. And for a place that is so historical for us queers, this drag queen just assumed that we were “lesbians” and addressed us so. News Flash – Using correct pronouns or qualifiers that connote one’s gender, is not just restricted to drag queens! Plus, we weren’t there to sit and play Bingo, for God’s sake! Could they just leave people alone and let them be? It was like being in school once again – being asked to fall in line by the class teacher. What made it even more pathetic was how everyone there kept sheepishly smiling through all the sad attempts this drag queen was making to sound funny, when she was actually being really nasty and insulting, most of the time. I’m not sure if we were getting a special dose for being the only brownies there. But, for me, an otherwise nice evening turned really ghastly, thanks to Bingo being force-fed to us, along with some really insulting comments. We, of course, walked out soon after we finished our drinks. As for the drinks, the bartender was friendly. I agree with most others who say that the drinks were pretty expensive. I would add that they were pretty watered down too. I don’t feel like going there ever again. I’m sure there are friendlier places in town. Ruined a perfectly nice evening really well. Full marks for that, for sure.

Joseph Brian Stanley

Great place to go for karaoke. I went with a group of coworkers and we had a blast. The drinks are strong and the bar staff are super friendly.

Alec Liam Bow

Happy hour. BOGOF. Decent bit of LGBT history.

Kevin Brennan

Rude bouncer and terrible atmosphere.

Deprise Brescia

The Stonewall Inn continues to be a landmark for civil rights for the LGBT community and for everyone. It is now a powerful symbol for PEACE and positive change, as people from all communities come together promoting LOVE and PEACE to help everyone heal from the tragedy in Orlando that took too many of our loved ones. I give this place 5 stars for reminding us that LOVE HEALS!!!

Ismael

Visited with a local this past Saturday. My friend had a horrible customer experience. Person on charge of the coat hanging did not return coat until my friend called the police. He even got escorted out and screamed by the bouncer. The irony of this happening at this bar is crazy. They need better staff. Hope it gets fixed. My friend did file a report. You should to if you have bad experience.

Joseph Perea

Great bartenders!! Beautiful, historic bar. Thank you for having us.

Charles Rockhill

History meets the future at the most famous gay bar in the world! It's nice seeing new wave after new wave of LGBT people and allies enjoying Where Pride Began.

Amber Erickson

If you're looking for a new brunch place, this IS the one to go to. Like I said, be prepared to wait, but it is well worth it!

Aaron Burlew

Cool historic location!

Tanya Barrios

The bar that started the gay rights movement! I can't not love this place. Awesome to visit and the people are nice as well. Only downside is that the drinks are definitely pricey. There's a first level and upstairs. Glad to have been part of the historic crowd when gay marriage for New York was passed!!!

Aaron Small

Great bar with such an interesting history! The happy hour special each day is certainly a good deal, don’t miss it...

Gavin Williams

Fun place! Went on a Sunday afternoon it was $4 drinks. The cheapest I found in NY! Staff and customers are friendly and music was great!

Nani!!??

Never drank there, however my school wemt there to learn about lgbt history and wow The history, the impact, the level of legendary, wow 10/10 best bar on earth

Steven Newman

Totally diverse and mixed. Happy time place. Visit to drink and unwind. They might not like me to note this is not the original bar. It was next door and linked to what is now the coat check in rear.cif current place. This is a new Stonewall that is extremely much nicer space than hole in the wall original! I had to ask around to find that out .
