It is hard to find a restaurant that is a combination of a gorgeous space with creative and beautiful food but the Modern is one of those rare places. The space soars and watching the lights come on in the art garden is magical. The food is edgy and excellent. The “everything bagel” ice cream was unbelievable! The service was seamless, always there but never hovering. There is no dress code which makes it a very eclectic but comfortable environment. Truly one of my best dining experiences ever.

Totally stunning place with the best high end food. Upscale but casual place located on the side of the MoMa. You will enjoy a 7 course meal with 4 dishes of your choice. This place does not take tips but for the price you will understand why. Prices are around $250 to $1,000 dlls.

Went here for my mine and my husband's one year anniversary. The food was spectacular, and the service was impeccable. What really blew me away though, was I requested they bring out the top tier of our wedding cake (which we'd kept frozen in our freezer all year lol) for dessert. I was expecting a no - the cake is probably a health hazard not to mention hideous - but they graciously and enthusiastically agreed and brought it out with a candle for dessert (which we ate alongside their actual dessert which was, of course, unbelievable). My husband had no idea and we both laughed until we cried looking at this hideous year old cake. Just an amazing experience. After dinner, we seamlessly went over to the bar for a cocktail. We loved how since gratuity is included already, we didn't have to fuss with getting the bill, paying, then creating a tab at the bar. It was truly an incredible experience. Thank you so much for making our anniversary so special.

The Modern is a classy upscale French Restaurant. The price is a little on the higher side but it is well worth breaking the budget for a good night out. They have a nice bar area and lively music. The food is amazing if you love french food this is the place for you. Our favorite part of the place to eat is the garden they have beautiful high ceilings and a wonderful view. My favorite food to order is the Gnocchi with Black Truffle and Radish. I think that the menu has a lot for all different tastes. Overall service was quick and very pleasant. We didn't want past your average time for a table. And everyone is very friendly.

The food was delicious, as expected. Minus the fish. It was a bit fishy. Either it was overcooked or not as fresh. (Who knows. I'm not an expert.) As for ambiance, the dining room itself was really nice. The background music and noise was just right and not overwhelming. But the staff was congregating a lot in the middle of the dining floor. Wine pairing was on spot and overall hospitality was exceptional. Overall, I liked it. Just don't order the fish if you're particular about seafood.

It's a modern take on food as the restaurant name suggests. 3 stars might be a little harsh, but it's just me personally as the flavours and taste just wasn't my liking. The food itself was fusion take and the flavours just didn't do it for me, a bit strange for me. The great thing is they print out your menu selection for your to take home. Can see in my photo what I selected and ate. The fine dining experience itself does meet expectations.

My partner and I came here for restaurant week and it was one of the best meals we’ve had in the city! I’m always slightly skeptical about gratuity-less service but we were not disappointed by our experience. Our waters were always filled, our drinks were brought promptly, and each dish was described in detail when it came out. The portions were large and absolutely delicious! Our server was excellent and even brought us a free round of espresso martinis, which were delicious. Overall well-worth the price with great food, excellent service, and a great atmosphere.

Beautiful, elegant and upscale with eclectic choices of interesting Chef creations, but very pricey. I once sat at the bar and had a memorable mojito but couldn't afford much more than a bowl of soup. I went back to do the same this time but did not want to spend the money for a $20+ drink so I opted for a genmaicha green tea with honey and one of the more affordable appetizers. I had the steak tartar which was very well executed. The ambience is beautiful with gorgeous live flowers everywhere and New York's well-dressed 30-somethings gathering for Friday night happy hour which I'm sure can afford hanging out there much more than I can...lol.

We were in NY for my birthday so when my BF made the reservation, he told them that so when we arrived at our table, there was a sign wishing me for a Happy Birthday. The food was on point-absolutely no complaints about anything. The wine was perfectly paired with the meal and the amuse bouche that came between courses were fantastic. I had another surprise when dessert came out and they made a special dessert wishing me a happy birthday as well. Service was excellent and every move was perfectly choreographed. It was definitely worth every penny and I can't recommend it enough.

I was very disappointed with the experience here, though the food overall was good, the service was not. The only person who made me feel welcome was my server, David (though there are multiple other people that bring your food and stop by the table). I was dining on my own as I was visiting New York by myself and am a lot younger than most of the guests that may come to the Modern, and every time a staff member spoke to me or passed by my table they would give me a weird look or talk in a condescending manner. None of the hostesses or other servers smiled or were friendly, which should be expected at any restaurant, let alone a Michelin star restaurant. I was really looking forward to dining here but cannot say I enjoyed it because I just did not feel welcome. If you come to New York on your own and would like to experience fine dining, I'd recommend going elsewhere.

The tasting menu is clever, with some individual options. Dishes were creative, complex and flawlessly presented. The Eggs on Eggs on Eggs dish features a wonderfully smooth egg custard, over-easy egg and caviar. A luscious pretzel croissant is filled with mustard butter. The sautéed sea bass is cooked perfectly with English peas and spring onion. Slow-cooked pork features several types. The dry aged duck with wild blueberries and chanterelle mushrooms was declared perfect. A clever green tomato sorbet was served before the dessert course, where we got a sweet corn custard with blackberry sorbet and a chevre mousse with raspberry coulis and cantaloupe ice cream. The servers and other diners exuded friendliness rather than stuffiness, which is sometimes the vibe at expensive restaurants. Perfect.

Due to its reputation, I was excited to go when we were invited to a friend’s birthday dinner. The atmosphere is beautiful with views of the city. And we probably had one of the best but unconventional Brunellos. It’s heartbreaking to say that the food unfortunately didn’t live up to the hype. It wasn’t special nor did it leave an impression of any kind. I had the grilled octopus and the monkfish which had no taste to it. Presentation was pretty but it didn’t live up to expectations. Sigh.

Classy and amazing food. We came to try the Bar Room at the Modern for restaurant week for lunch. The menu looked great and we were promptly seated for our table at 12:45pm. We got the rosemary focaccia bread to share and for appetizers had the chilled corn soup. For mains tried salmon and the chicken. We went all out and got dessert too - pavlova and creme fraiche with berries and the raspberry chocolate cake. Everything was spot on and well presented. Flavors were amazing. Well deserved of the Michelin star. I will be back again. A great addition to the restaurant week club!

Came here for 5 year anniversary dinner. Was definitely worthy of a special occasion. =) The dinner tasting menu lasts ~3 hours so keep it in mind if you were planning on doing anything else in the evening. Getting a dinner reservation for Monday night through OpenTable was painless. While we enjoyed all the courses and the extra "bites" supplied by the restaurant, the highlights were the tuna tartare, steak + morel, dry aged duck, and lychee ice cream/passion fruit meringue. There were some playful dishes (eggs three ways, the asparagus/cheese sabayon/broth combo) but nothing TOO crazy - you still felt like you were eating all natural food and not experimental synthetics. It was very rich but the portion size was measured very well. Service was impeccable with appropriate breaks between courses to allow digestion. Sparkling wine was served in an "Italian-approved" prosecco glass and was very nice. The espresso was also great. If you can get a view of the garden it's a nice vibe as well - not super formal. While I did read somewhere that this type of luxurious cuisine/dining featured prominently right before the fall of the Roman Empire (a portent of things to come)... it did bring us a lot of joy so you might as well experience it if you can.

Classy restaurant and tips are already included so the prices look higher than they should look. Food is flavorful and the portions are sized properly so you can order multiple courses and not feel sick or stuffed. Drinks are wonderfully prepared and strong. Servers are friendly and attentive.

Fantastic lunch experience. We got the six course and genuinely liked every course, which is a pretty rare thing for us when it comes to tasting menus. The taste, presentation, atmosphere, service - all there. The stand out was the egg on egg on egg... definitely a must try. And it's a gorgeous space, especially when you sit by the window to see into the courtyard. We also really appreciated that the meal was timed perfectly so that we can make our show on time. We'll be back to try dinner service next!

We were totally and completely overwhelmed. Guess it showed on our faces because the sommelier came over and walked us through the wine list. It was super intimidating but then we asked and everyone was great. The restaurant is a no tip place, meaning they pay living wage, so the prices are a bit high. They have a coat and luggage check. And the fries-ah-mazing.

Went their for the birthday party. Got 3 courses. The appetizer avocado crab and main course chicken is too salty! I end up drinking a large amount of water to not feel thirsty! Very disappointed and can not believe this taste is from the mondern!

One of the best days you can have in NYC ends here. You spend a few hours in MOMA and get some good art in, then you walk into the Modern and have an exquisite meal and cocktail. I prefer to sit in the bar area and have a few small bites and a drink. The tarte flambe is unreal and the carrot tartare I had recently is so darn good it can make any meat lover question their decisions. The Modern after visiting MOMA is literally as good as it gets.

How to describe an excellent meal ..? How to describe a good wine? How to describe good care? How to describe a good Environment? for all these questions I got the best response to come to this restaurant where they have a good Hospitality, good pairings. a very familiar and warm atmosphere, I felt at home (although I can say that a little better hahaha), I have no words to describe the attention since I entered until I left I felt like I was the only guest they were attending. the wines they offer are of high passion and very good (with excellent options (for a good wine taster), all their dishes looked very delicious, but today I had the opportunity to try the black truffle Cavatelli with black trumpets and shaved radish uff that dish madness, very flavorful (thanks to the gentleman for recommending it). It only remains to say that I will return for more, now with my wife and my son, to enjoy their wines and meals.

This is not a place for casual dining. We passed in excess of four well spent hours. The food is extremely well executed, and the wine pairings well chosen and well presented. The food is not, perhaps, as inventive as it might be given the location and the quality, but it's extremely enjoyable. To the extent that $450 per person for dinner and drinks can ever be said to be well-spent, it's well spent here.

Had a lovely lunch in the Bar Room. The food couldn't be faulted - it was a very interesting menu, and each course was delicious. Despite it being peak lunch time, however, the restaurant was fairly empty, which meant there wasn't much atmosphere (I guess because it was August, and just before the Labor Day weekend.) Also service, to be honest, wasn't quite as attentive as it could have been (given that the restaurant was pretty quiet.)

We did the kitchen table experience and it was so worth it. One of the best culinary experiences we have ever had. Everyone was so nice. The chefs were all amazing and I'm not sure his title but Kevin was fantastic and made us feel so comfortable. Sometimes when you go to higher end restaurants it can be overwhelming but they made you feel at ease. We can't wait to come back.

We ate here in the dining room. It surpassed our expectations, and was a surprisingly good value for a tasting menu given the quality. Cozy views of the MOMA sculpture garden out the back window, and lovely modern decor in the dining room. Dishes were creative, tasty, and well-prepared.
