Our waiter was a little sleepy and not really cut out for this restaurant. As far as the food goes - each dish was beautifully crafted and tasted awesome, with huge portions. Absolutely fabulous meal, the food was really tasty and well worth the $60 each. lovely staff who made us feel very welcome. We are on honeymoon and they made us a chocolate congratulations on our dessert. Special touches go a long way. Thank you. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting from england as you know what your getting and no extra costs along the way. We were told at booking we didn't need to leave a tip but we did as the place was so good.

We found the quality of the food very good with natural ingredients and nicely put together plates. Wholesome comfort food is how I would describe it. The place is clean and sharp, tables spaced appropriately for ambiance but also privacy. The service was excellent, or waiter Jay was nice and friendly with just the right level of familiarity to make us comfortable and welcomed but also let my wife and I the intimacy we wanted. We order the house wine if Spanish provenance, very nice too. Congrats to staff!

Food is delicious, but the octopus salad was filled with a lot of lettuce and only 2 to 3.very tiny pieces of burned octopus. The waiters are re friendly. But the promo to get you to lunch or dine is misleading: it gives the impression that the restaurant is all the way at the top of the Empire State Building. All by all, we had a good lunch.

Great service! Absolutely exceptional dining experience. I was a little underdressed, coming from a jobsite, but they seated us and treated my party with some of the best service I’ve had dining. Excellent location for a business meeting in midtown. The food was great as well; my buddy had the short-rib, it looked phenomenal; I had the salmon it was amazing and perfectly cooked. All around this restaurant is one of the best places in midtown of a business dinner.

Honestly I wish I could give more than 5 stars! The service was fantastic, my partner and I got the special which included a starter, entree, and desert as well as a drink which was well worth the money. The food was fantastic the lamb was delicious cooked at the chefs recommendation and the lobster ravioli was amazing as well. I wish we would have gone on a day where the Empire State Building was a different color because they have a special desert dish that changes depending on the color the Empire State Building is that day but that desert was amazing as is as well. The only thing we were confused by was the tip. Our check included 20% gratuity which is not very common and so it was a little confusing. But the excellent service and delicious food makes it well worth the cost.

Made reservations and spoke to staff as we had food allergies and lactose intolerance to make sure this restaurant was suitable. The staff reassured me that this would not be an issue and the kitchen can definitely work with us. This is not the case. The cutlery and glasses were dirty. The bread they brought was hard and cold. Service was slow and upset about having dietary restrictions which somehow she didn't know about. Our meal took forever and we will never be back again. Way over priced and very disappointing. If zero was an option this place would be it. A shame as this was our one really nice meal on our first trip to New York. Hope you have better luck.

I was given tickets to this place and kept putting off going. But finally decided to give it a try before the expiration date on the tickets. My co-worker and I got there about 45 minutes before our reservation after work on Tuesday evening. They seated us right away and had no issue with us arriving before schedule. The prefixe menu was slightly different from the regular menu, but that's to be expected. I had read previous reviews and some said the place was great while others said the place was horrible. I read that someone else had gotten the prefixe and ordered the steak so I was really looking forward to a steak. However, that was not a choice on the menu. So I settled for the one of the other two beef choices which was short ribs. I also ordered the seafood chowder. My friend ordered chicken milanese and her soup choice was a garden vegetable soup. For dessert she chose the 7 layer blackout and I chose the ice cream trio. We were offered the choice of still,sparkling or tap water. We chose still. Food- Short ribs- although boneless & tender, very small, one piece with a lot of fat served over a small portion of mashed potato, two carrots and chipolini onions that were undercooked. The whole dish was very bland and lacked salt. Did the chef forget that salt brings out the flavor of dishes? Seafood chowder- it had pieces of salmon, cubed potaoes, pieces of shrimp and bacon in a creamy broth. Do they call that seafood? And who puts salmon in soup? I guess since two of their dishes on the menu are salmon they use it more ways. The shrimp were a tad under for my taste. Chicken milanese- Although it was a huge portion it had no flavor at all. Again lacking salt and this type of dish if there was salt available on the table wouldn't do it any justice after being fried. Salad was nice. But to me not a complete meal. Bread- no bread basket placed on table. Instead they come around and offer you one piece from a choice of salted baguette, cranberry roll, or sourdough. All of which are hard slightly warmed and hard to cut into. Seven layer cake- just ok nothing spectacular same goes for the ice cream. The three flavors were chocolate, vanilla and malted. I didn't care for the malted. With this meal you had a choice of coffee, tea or soda. Since we chose water my friend had coffee we weren't expecting a check for the water. I've never been charged for still water. It was $6.53 Service was ok, the server did come check on us once. I did notice he was a bit more friendlier to a group who was ordering from the regular menu. We looked at the regular menu and noticed there were a few things on there that seemed good. I wouldn't go back. Their food is bland and there are many other places to eat in the city. I won't tell the person who gifted me the tickets. He paid $55 per person and I kind of feel bad that it wasn't worth it.

Absolutely phenomenal service. Very elegant and inviting design/decor. Fantastic food and dessert. Made a reservation for the building tour and restaurant, so, after the tour, the wife and I drag in there with jeans, jackets and skull caps on. Hostess didn't even bat an eye and promptly sat us. We looked around-- all business professionals, really high-end clientele. This was no big-attraction-novelty restaurant. This was the real deal. We were sat amongst them.

After having seen the sights, by night, from the 86th floor (amazing), we were keen for a bit to eat. We were seated very quickly (even though it was near prime dinner hour); and served as quickly. We settled for two of their seasonal beers (off of an impressive list), and then I ordered the Buffalo Burger, Diane the Heartland Burger; both were very tasty. We then conceded a dessert (a molten chocolate Lava cake, scrumptious). The cost for the meal was very reasonable, the service exceptionally "tip-able", the evening topped of brilliantly. Our thanks

Had a reservation that was made a month ago..it was for 7:30, they seated us at 7...it took twenty minutes for the water, which I paid for(sparkling) and another for someone to ask if we were ready to order, in which time I ask for an appetizer but never received. At ten minutes to 8, bread came to the table and at 9, the meal had arrived. It was not busy at all. I live in NC and this was a late birthday dinner for my niece who lives in NJ. I do not know if they forgot about us or whatever the reason, it was horrible service with a wait that was too long. I would neither visit nor recommend this place.

Had dinner here after the Empire State Building tour. Overall not bad but nothing out of this world either. Bread served was cold and hard. I would expect a place this pricey to have warm bread. Steaks were good and tender but bland. We ordered the Mac and cheese and again it was ok but bland. Price for a New York statehouse was appropriate. Overall it was a good meal but not what I was expecting in NYC.

We same here because of the Empire State building package where it includes tickets to the 86th and 102th floors with a 3 course meal here at State Grill and Bar. We were thoroughly impressed with everything. The decor, service, food, and atmosphere. The menu quite diverse for a fixed priced menu. The crab cake and the desserts were the highlight of the meal. Highly recommend it to all visitors to New York if you decide to go up to the Empire State Building.

Dinner was amazing - we both enjoyed the classic Caesar salad (warning - real anchovy fillets) and steak frites medium rare with a side of delicious oyster mushrooms. John, the manager, assisted with my selection of red wine and helped me choose a wonderful choice. Too full for dessert but we saw many others enjoy the desserts. Casual dress code, upscale dining experience. Our server was professional and polite.

The beef ribs were very tender and soft, almost melting in my mouth! The atmosphere was also excellent, similar Art Deco feel from the Empire State Building; classy! Came here with a group of 9 friends for my girlfriend's birthday and had a terrible experience. While making reservations, we were told that we would get our dinner and a trip to the observation deck for $60 per person as part of the "dinner and a view" deal. We confirmed this with the hostess up front upon arrival before being seated. We were given our checks for $60 per person after our meals and were told that we must pay an additional $34 per person to get access to the observation deck. The manager and hostess completely went back on their word and were unwilling to work with us in any way. It is truly a shame that this was our experience considering how excited we all were for this night. The food was decent and the facility was immaculate, but the employees we were served by were extremely difficult to work with and quite frankly ruined what should have been a very special night.

After we completed our dinner, our hostess asked me if there was a reason for dining in; I replied yes 2 birthday celebrations. Her response was, I should have mentioned it at the beginning of dinner.

I had the absolute worst experience at this restaurant today! So this week is currently participating in NYC Restaurant Week so I desided to make a noon reservation with my friend. We arrive there and are very wowed by the decor and atmosphere. We sit down and wait for about half an hour for someone to actually take our order. Mind you, we were sitting in the middle of the room where there would be no excuse for missing our table. So we order drinks. Looking around we realized that everyone was served bread besides us. Now we have been waiting 45 minutes to actually order food. I finally get the waitress's attention, ask for the check and tell her the reason why we are leaving. She apologizes and gives us some LAME excuse about how she thought we were waiting for two extra people. I called and made reservations for two people! And they sat us! Why didn't she just ask if we were waiting for other people? That's when I realized she was probably bullshitting us or maybe she was just very stupid. Either way beware of the wait time here! I was soo looking forward to the food! How very disappointing

My husband and I had came there to have dinner for our 11 yr wedding anniversary. They said we must make a reservation, which we did for 8pm. We had arrived a little early and the restaurant was so empty. There was people walking in with no reservation and being seated. (SMH). The waitress had came and seated us. And then the waiter came over and greeted us and ask us what are we having to drink. I had order a apple martini and my husband had order a long island ice tea. Now I'm a apple martini drinker . That was some vodka with some Hennessey and coke. My husband long island ice tea look like rum and coke. The waiter had brought some rolls and butter to our table. The rolls was so hard that you could have hit some one with them and given that person brain damage. Wow... I had order a Caesar salad. I have never seen a Caesar salad with green sauce with a RAW FISH OR LITTLE SALMON ON TOP OF IT . WHICH LOOK VERY nasty to me. My last result was to older the Calamari and that dish was very delicious .. The waiter was very nice, patients and also commenting on how the food was prepared.. I will never go back..

Absolutely horrible management. My group showed up to our reservation, and were told that we were doing the $55 dinner and a view deal that we saw online, only to find out after we had already finished our meal that the manager and hostess had lied to us. This deal does not actually exist. Instead they scammed us into paying $60 for a three course meal that wasn't any better than what you may get at Applebee's. There was no pass to the observation deck included in this $60 dinner. Instead, a bunch of college kids left this restaurant feeling disappointed that our friend's birthday plan was ruined, and robbed of $60. And to think we traveled from south jersey just to have dinner and see the view here! I'm sure we will not be coming back, and we'll be telling our friends and family about this horrible experience.

Great place to have a romantic dinner with your significant other. The staff are friendly and the food is fantastic. We took the 3 course meal offered with the Observatory four for $60 a person and it was amazing food and outstanding service. To tell the truth we expected to be rushed through like cattle but were extremely surprised that we were not. The pace of the meal was fantastic and they treated you as well as you would expect out of any restaurant of this caliber. Again... food was absolotely fantastic!!!
