REVIEWS OF Philippe Chow IN New York

M Costanza

Great food and outstanding service.

Dorka Montilla

Excellent food and prices are expensive

Shayla Baldwin

Came here and ate with my friend @ the bar. Had 2 glasses of red wine . I believe probably $20 each . Which is the norm. Also ordered the chicken satay and she had the spring rolls. The chicken satay with the peanut sauce was cold as we ordered 3 orders of each. The spring rolls were descent . Just as good as your local chinese restaurant . Never returned! And have no attentions .

The food and service at Philippe have both been constantly impeccable for a number of years. It is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. The Beijing Chicken is my "go to" dish. #LetsGuide

Michael Gibbons

We went just for this dessert to cap the evening off!

Isaiah Mitchem

My wife and I go once every year for the past 10 years. The service is starting to decline for the first time they didn't recognize that it was my birthday.

Lauren Imperial

Amazing service from start to finish! Highly recommend to throw a party in the private room.

Amanda Bynum

Food is good but over priced. Then our bill was 450 and the waiter never came back with the change so he walked away with a 145 dollar tip. His tip of 70 was in the bill and we each paid 75.00 a piece which comes up to 525. 525 from 450 leaves 75 that was supposed to bring back as change. 75 plus his 70 tip is 145.00 he got. No one service is that good.

Mauro Summa

Tacky design, food not tasty, fancy place for rich people and fake celebrities. if you wanna throw out your money, this is the place for you

mercedrly calcano

The food was great. And as a treat when a whole duck is ordered they give a duck carving show. Nice! But didn't like the seatng area in the cellar.

Jeriva Lee

Went for pecking duck and it’s worth the 45-minute wait. Other plates come out first so it’s doable. Crab is great. Went twice in a week and both times were satisfying.

Last night it was a friends birthday we were a party of 14 and sat in the upstairs dining area. Never have I’ve been in a “upscale” restaurant and received such horrible service. Our server BESNICK was so unwelcoming and his demeanor towards our table was out of line. Our entire dining experience with him was completely disappointing. We ordered some apps for the table and the chicken satay tasted cold. We also had dumplings and lettuce wraps which was very mediocre. Once food was dropped at our table our server disappeared. When it was time for our second course they cleared our dirty dishes but did not bother to crumb our table they put new WET plates over the crumbs that were left over from our first course. Me and another 2 people from the table ordered the House Mignon with the black pepper crust medium rare ALL 3 came medium well. When Besnick finally came to our table to check on us we told him that our food was over cooked he took back the plates with an annoyed look on his face as if it was our fault our food was over cooked. I also ordered shrimp satay to go with my main course and it never came. Again the taste of the food was extremely mediocre and not worth the price. Once we finished our main courses I ordered 2 glasses of the Domaine Rośe with Besnick. He then took our 1 desert order came back, did the birthday desert presentation, then again disappeared for about 20-25 minutes with no wine but he sure had our check in hand ready to drop off. Once we reviewed our check those 2 glasses of wine was there but we never received it!! He then came back with the new check and stood next to our table the ENTIRE time while we sorted out the payment literally staring at our table but failed to be around our table during our dining experience. The only time he was nice to us was while he was saying goodnight when we were exiting the the dining room. Half of our party we are in the restaurant business as well and when we go out out to eat we like to splurge and always tip 50% when it’s deserved even if the food isn’t all that we do not take it out on the server because we know they don’t handle the food. Unfortunately gratuity was included in our check already and he received a full 20% that he did not earn. And maybe that’s why he was so careless with our table. Extremely disappointing and I hope management looks into this, judging by some of the reviews I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one that experienced this with the server besnick. I’ve had better food and service at PF Chang’s.

The food is pretty good. I know the restaurant is trying to maximize profits by putting people as close together as possible but I do not enjoy everytime Im picking up my utensils that Im nudging the guy next to me. Everyone is elbow distance away from eachother. Zero privacy with your date. Might as well be one big dinner, thats how close everyone is to eachother. My girlfriend felt very uncomfortable..

Wines and dine at its best

Samantha Edwards

I definitely reccomend this place! It helps to get a reservation, and because of the portion sizes you could definitely bring a group and get to try different things. The waiter was helpful. The food is quite good for the price.

Jeremiah Gonzalez

Excellent Chinese food, the Chicken Satays are to die for and so is the Peaking Duck, Recommend truing either of those. Atmosphere is nice and so is the menu selection!

Jaja Nwokeabia

Came in here on a Monday night for drinks with a friend, the music was so loud we left and went to Il Mulino next door--much more civilized. Philippe tries too hard to be too cool. And attracts a similar crowd.

Chino Hara

This place is great on many levels. They have a small bar, large dining hall, and also has a nice large room in the back that has huge sky light. Very nice room. If you want to host a private event, they also have two rooms downstairs that used to be wine cellar. Very cozy and it feels very private. They have the most amazing chicken satay with their signature peanut sauce. You must try this dish. Filet mignon dish is also to die for. Branding dish was too salty for my taste but overall, amazing place to dine. I highly recommend this place for a nice quiet sit down dinner.

Sherene Bridgwater

It was amazing! Food is outstanding! Service was impeccable! Must go back soon

angela guzman

Chicken on a stick and lettuce wraps are amazing here. Good service. Just cramped seating is the only down side.

D Cannon

Worst restaurant ever. This place is judgemental. I am a young looking Hispanic male from Texas and they refused to serve me because I didn’t have “a Texas accent and looked young”. When I asked about it they said they couldn’t do anything and refused to look at my ID. I am truly embarrassed and angry that they discriminate against my kind of people. Moral of the story is if you have good genes do not come here ever. If you are thinking about going here over Mr. Chow don’t come here. Mr. Chow will always be better.

Keisha Freeman

Their food is delicious!

Bruce Campbell

I stopped in one evening to try this little place with my agent, and I was blown away. The service and atmosphere of this awesome little restaurant is truly phenomenal. I highly recommend everyone try this place. Bruce.

Ligen Zhang

Takes too long to get the meal, foods are not tasty, prices are unreasonably high

Camila H

Great food, good service and great ambience. Only cons is that its overpriced

Mohamed Saleem Badat

Good food in healthy portions.

Jodie Imbriano

Amazing had a great dinner and service was excellent

Mazin Alhamdani

Upscale Chinese food. That is what this restaurant offers. More of Cantonese style Chinese food, and it is very good and delicious. I've read some comments about the food being pricey. Yes, perhaps a little pricey but it is an upscale restaurant with good food, service, and ambiance. You get what you pay for. I also read comments suggesting that you can get similar food from Chinatown at a lower price. No, I don't think so. This type of sophisticated chinese food is only found in places like this and possibly Mr. Chow. The moment I found crispy seaweed in the appetizer menu, I knew I was going to love the food, and I did. For me personally, I have only found this dish in great upscale Chinese restaurants internationally. Try the crispy seaweed appetizer, the crispy duck, and the nine seasons prawns. I enjoyed the food and the service here, I will visit again, and I will recommend to others.

Great service and food

I wish I could do no stars. The service was horrible. Waited 25 mins no one came over to us than table sits down next to us and they get served before us. Had to ask for water every time never came to fill it. Also had to ask them to clear our plates. Food was below average. Bathroom was disgusting and both toilets clogged and paper all over the floor. The only reason came here was for the dessert they put on fire and they didn’t even have it said they “ran out of it”. Would never return again overrrated!!!!

Rika Odigie

Good food! Vegan, Vegetarian options.

It was amazing loved the service and the staff

I Made a detailed reservation for my boyfriends birthday with the Director of Special Events (Elma Koljenovic) about 3 weeks prior to the actual day , I was guaranteed that the bottle of Moët Chandon I asked to be brought to the table as soon as we sat down to surprise him so we can drink as we ate i also asked for the cotton candy baked Alaska cake at the end to also surprise him again , unfortunately that did not happen , we came in sat down and recieved menus then ordered our food and still didn’t receive the bottle , i then faked that I had to use the restroom just so I wouldn’t ruin the surprise to ask the waiter why I haven’t received my bottle yet he looked at me with a confused face and said I do not know what your talking about , i then told him I spoke to Elma I am suppose to have a bottle and a cake at the end of dinner as a surprise and he asked me who was Elma , at the point I was extremely annoyed , about 5 mins later he comes to the table and requests to speak to me privately which then ruined the surprise

Not worth it. I went last night for dinner with my friends, and was really excited to get some specific dishes based off Instagram and Yelp reviews, everything I'd read on the internet was a rave review and everything looked delicious. The service was 5/5, very nice, helpful, attentive. No complaints. The food was disappointing. Not only would I say it was not worth the very high price tag, but some of the items I would say would not be worth a low price tag either. 3/5 for food. The chicken satay, which everyone raves about, me (and my friends) did not like. The sauce tastes like literal pancake batter. Maybe it's too heavy on the butter...? But frankly I was so excited to get it from all the amazing reviews (even here on Yelp), and this $21 Chicken Satay is probably not something I would eat again for free. It's so heavy and sweet and, well, tastes like pancake batter. Would personally NOT recommend this at all. The Vegetable Lo Mein with hand pulled noodles was delicious! This was the dish I was most excited to try, and was not disappointed. Definitely recommend!! This was worth it and so delicious!!!! We shared the Beijing Chicken, with it's sweet red bean sauce and candied walnuts, and we all thought is was too sweet. I've had sweet success before, but there was just so much sugar in this dish, and especially with the added candied walnuts. I'd also read great reviews about this dish, but it was just over the top too sweet and sugary. Some of the group got the Pork Soup Dumplings which were very good... Would recommend those. Overall, the service was very good, and I'm glad I went to have the Lo Mein that I was personally looking forward to, but the rest of the food was very disappointing and not something I would want to eat again.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC, so I came here with my S/O for my birthday dinner. Excellent experience, A-to-Z. First, I had to make a last-minute change to my reservation (push back an hour). It was as simple as a 1 minute phone call. When we arrived, we were seated immediately, with a smile. I wish I remember my server's name, because he was top notch. He really made us feel great, he was funny, classy, and helped steer my date in the right direction to a cocktail she thoroughly enjoyed. The rest of the night only got better from there. We got the chicken satay and a Peking duck, and it was as good as it always is. Philippe is definitely consistent and you can tell they take pride in every dish that leaves their kitchen. Sometimes when restaurants see a young couple come in, they treat you as second-class, but not here. It was an all-around fabulous experience. I ate until I was bursting at the seams hahaha. Plus - my date has had Peking duck in China many times and she confirmed that the duck at Philippe was authentic and delicious! I will ALWAYS recommend Philippe.

Appetisers Delicious hot and sour soup Chicken satay Shrimps with seaweed Prawn and vegetable dumplings alll delicious

Malea Grubb

A fun place to go when you are craving Americanized pan Asian cuisine. The duck really is pretty phenomenal, and the cocktails are also fun.

Dencil Smith

Great atmosphere and nice decor. Fast service. Friendly staff. Food was delicious and priced well for the quality you received. Recommend to make reservations at the restaurant can get packed quickly.

James Wu

A westernized Chinese cuisine offering. As the only Asian at the restaurant, and one who travels often to the Far East, I can say Philippe was a uniquely American version of Chinese food. Very tasty, not at all authentic, but enjoyable.

Andrew Bell

Phenom food ambiance and wine and cocktails, staff is awesome

marilee diamanti syllantavos

Philippe is one of our favourite restaurants in Manhattan always worths the visit..

robert rosenthal

disappointing. needed to wait a few minutes for my guest, and a rude women snapped, "How can I help you' sounded more like - what are you doing here. bad tone. should have left. we were seated upstairs which has no 'ambience' at all, even though we asked to be seated in the main dining space. which had available tables. only the regulars are seated there, it seemed. but, the very worst thing was the food!! little taste, certainly not 'Chinese' very bland, spare ribs tasted like something you get in a BBQ tex style restaurant and this was the best thing, it is like the joke, food was not good, and there was too little of it. portions very small too high priced, do not go! ordered 'green prawns, which were, in fact, shriveled up green shrimps yech. tasted like nothing and which was mostly vegetables $27.00 for a plate of v eg - outrageous. people go there to get picked up or be seen - but by whom?? other wanna be nobodies . neighborhood take out has much better food -

Julian Wheatland

Great lunchtime menu. Excellent value, good food and attentive staff.

SHANE BACCHAS

Was my first time there..Server wasn't friendly and attentive I was expecting better service...I think they were rushing to get out of there..rushing me to take order and trying get the drink menu like it's the only one in the building...food was delicious I will go back.. just need better service on a date.

robert webb

The food is good, the atmosphere is good, the waiters is good.

Michael Rutty

Food was ok. I was disappointed in the dim sum. I was expecting top notch quality but it was not. It is way overpriced and I have had better Chinese meals for half the price.

Gail Taylor

OMG. Incredible. Great service & unbelievable food.

Dan Hoppe

Foods great service was wonderful!

zachary heathcott

Great spot and excellent food

CG BS

Great vibe, great duck, great experience and correct pricing, thank you !

Mary Garofalo

Probably the best Peking Duck I have ever had! It so delicious and fresh it was worth the wait. Highly recommend it.

NICOLE SMILEY

First time at this establishment. The food was great however we were there celebrating a birthday. Prior to them bringing out the birthday cake. There was another table celebrating a birthday and a happy birthday song was performed by the waiters/staff. When it was our table's turn the sparkling cake came out placed on the table and that was it. I asked why did they not sing the birthday song and the waiter said nothing and walked away. That was pretty unfair and rude for this high end establishment!

Nick Miceli

Outstanding authentic Chinese food! Everything we got was very good quality and perfectly cooked. The crispy duck is clearly a specialty, so I highly recommend trying it. The cotton candy frozen Alaska was as much fun to watch presented as it was to eat (pictured here). Highly recommend.

Tomas Kiss

Great duck. Excellent service.

Stephen Beekman

Excellent food with great service. We ate here twice in the last month, once for lunch, once for dinner. Both experiences were fabulous. We tried the Pekin duck. Not only was it succulent, but it was copious enough for two that we took some home. The chicken satay was great as were the spring rolls and the wantons. Lunch comes at a very reasonable Prix Fixe. We highly recommend this lovely place

Ron

I am not a big lover of Chinese food but this place is top notch level and it really doesn't matter iif you like Chinese or not, this place prepared some really good food. Interior is pleasant and clean, service is professional and friendly and the lunch menu is really worth it, with 3 courses the won't leave you hungry.

michael garcia

Good place for dinner party. Good service. Surprisingly kid friendly also.

Nellie Bee

Made a reservation and was seated less than 5 minutes from walking in. The ambience is really lively. It was packed. The service was great. The waitstaff were attentive without being annoying. We ordered the calamari which was excellent. The ribs were really good. The chicken satay was good. The shrimp dumplings were really good. The crab legs were really good. The shrimp fried rice was really tasty. The green prawns were good. The spicy shrimp were delicious. It is very pricey. Not your regular chinese food

michael roach

Fantastic service and wonderful food! You cannot go wrong with anything you order from the menu. Lunch is good but the place really lives up during dinner.

Tia Reeves

Went for a late birthday dinner. Although we had reservations for 11pm and arrived a little late, the hostess and staff were very welcoming. The food was AWESOME. Looking forward to dining here again.

Sue-ann Brown

Its was great, food was awesome

Great, great place! Offers so much fun, great music and incredible food!

Steve Stroup

Very good, nice atmosphere. Elevated Chinese cuisine.

kingpariss

The food was great ill be back

marc alleyne

Great service

K C

Over priced for nothing. I rather get a quart of shrimp fried rice from my local Halal Chinese Restaurant. At least is more flavorful.

Adrian Williams

The ambience of the restaurant is amazing and they provide great service. For appetizers I would definitely get the chicken in peanut sauce and the chicken wrap, those were awesome! Only thing I didn’t enjoy was the soup but the entrees were delicious, would definitely recommend people to go here.

Morad Falah

Mr.Kostas, Arrogant & disrespectful would be the words to define you. Fortunately for me I don’t ever have to deal with you again. My sympathy to both of the poor female hostess that you were verbally abusing and yelling at her for absolutely no reason, is who I feel sorry for. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, especially for employment.

Diandra M

Insanely Fabulous... INSANELY!!!

catrina g

A nice small place to get some drinks. Apparently, they have comedy but me and my partner missed it. The bartender is friendly and might give you a funny joke. The drinks are AMAZING!! TRY THE COCKTAIL'S! OR ASK THE BARTENDER TO MAKE YOU A CREATIVE DRINK! No matter what it will be good! I'm a bourbon drinker and the bartender gave me this amazing chocolate citrus alcoholic masterpiece..... My partner ended up stealing my drink from me! Definitely a fun place to try.

Idrialis Castillo

Nice restaurant with a variety of food, specially Asian. Delicious food, great services. Nice menu.

Preston Hochfelder

Best restaurant in nyc hands down. Food is amazing. Service is awesome. Loved it!

Wendy Munoz

Made a reservation for my husband and I and was super satisfied with this place. Nice restaurant to go eat and staff are really nice. The food was worth every penny, it’s affordable. Highly recommend the Satays chicken for appetizer. And for the main course my husband had the Beijing chicken with the pork, shrimp fried rice and I highly recommend it, I almost ate all his plate. And if you are a seafood lover like me you can’t go wrong with Red king crabs legs it was so delicious it had a little spicy taste but nothing to worry, the crab meat was so good I can still taste that creamy taste... me personally don’t like spicy food but I have to say that I would order it again when we go back. The only disappointment was that they didn’t have the cotton candy Alaska dessert, but we will definitely are thinking about going back but this time with our kids and would hope they have it then. Food and service was a 10 for me.

Lisbe Delahoz

Amazing fun place good food

Brice Lott

Liam Barnes

Friendly service. Superb food.

Crazy AboutJCrew

Place is very upscale and they have nice, spacious table good for celebrations but there is nothing chinese in the decor )I prefer the original Mr. Chow for the ambiance). Good food but with high price tag

Kristoffer Iles

Literally not worth a single cent . Worst dining experience I’ve ever had .

Nicole Henry

Food is good and atmosphere is nice but there waiter made many mistakes. Fortunately he was nice so it made up for it

So this was our first stop for restaurant week! I’ve always been wanting to try them so I decided to stop here first. When you walk into this dimmed low kew but high end style Chinese restaurant you are greeted by 1 (or 3) hosts who ask you if you have reservations. When they find your name, and if your table isn’t ready, they’ll direct u to the bar/lounge area where you can sit at one of the circular tables and order a drink while you wait. The music selection is hip and they play a variety of upbeat songs that I definitely enjoyed. The service here is amazing. We were greeted by a server who immediately put water in our glasses and menus at our table and gave us a few minutes to order. We had a lychee peach sangria while we decided. It was the perfect balance of sweet. The lychee went perfect with the peach liquor. We also ordered a bottle of red wine, I think it was the bell select. For $60 you can’t really go wrong; especially when you take into account that most people usually have more than 2 drinks at dinner and spend way more on cocktails. Restaurant week specials are $42 per person for a 3 course meal. We each ordered the satay, I did the chicken and my lady had the shrimp. When I say that this satay was easily the BEST I’ve ever had I’m in no way exaggerating. It’s all in the sauce. Most chicken satay I’ve had around the city is dry and rough. The meat and how the chefs at Phillipe cook it comes out succulent and moist. On top of that they use this sauce that I’ve never had anywhere else before. It’s sweet and savory. The perfect addition to a satay dish. For entrees I had the roast pork butt; a high end twist to what I’d like to think of as boneless spare ribs and she had the wok seared branzino (Both Pictured). These entrees were super flavorful and we equally enjoyed them both very much! The branzino came over sliced spicy eggplant, perfectly seared with a crisp layer of skin on the outside and a tender inside texture. Exactly how branzino should be in my opinion. The pork butt came with a honey barbecue glaze on the top cooked to perfection, sliced in a sweet and savory sauce with sugar snap peas. For dessert I had the fortune cookie red velvet cake and she had the dark chocolate layer cake. Both of these desserts were super on the rich and heavy side. Especially after the first two courses we struggled to finish them (not really) but when it came time for our last course we looked at each other like “WOW”. Her chocolate cake came with a side of miso caramel ice cream and my red velvet came traditional with cream cheese icing and raspberry sauce with a chocolate fortune cookie on top. They were super tasty and a perfect conclusion to a great night at Phillipe’s. We will definitely be back!
