REVIEWS OF Peter Luger Steak House IN New York

This place is dirty, stinky, mouldy, and dusty. Can’t even imagine what the kitchen looks like / how the food is handled. A tourist trap. Bland food, over cooked steak and burned potatoes. Food is cooked with no love or passion. Servers all hate their life, and treat you like that unless you’re white. They expect primo tip just for dropping your food on the table. Not worth the money, the treatment, and the dated/dingy business model. Stay far away. Many other amazing steaks for cheaper in NYC!!!

The steak here is definitely the best steak I have ever eaten. BUT it would be nice to call he restaurant and not get someone who is accommodating and not rude. I’ve called three times this past month trying to get a reservation for a special night and was told different things in a not so accommodating way and then when I called during the day to try and come for lunch like I was told...whoever picked up was rude and short and did not show any interest in trying to help someone come eat at their restaurant. If I don’t feel cared for as a patron and it’s not a good experience to try and eat at a specific place I’m not going to bother, no matter how good the steak is.

We had reservation so got seated as soon as they opened. The guests without reservations can seat at the side of dining room and watch people eat right in front of you. Service was typical New York Style: sort of polite but really don’t care at all. Steak was good but it doesn’t taste like dry aged beef; it’s fresh and good taste but does not have the profound meat flavor. Overall it’s worth the price (much better than Sparks)

They're pretty on time with their reservation and the food was SUPERB! Servers are experienced and very nice. Keep it up!

AMAZING STEAK!!! Really nice waiters. Kind of quiet but there was a loud group besides us. Also VERY COLD inside!

Not a fan of porter house but Great burger (only at lunch) fries and salads.. Shrimp.. Pie with amazing whipped cream.. The Bill at the ends takes away some of tge enjoyment

Very interesting atmosphere + good food so well worth a visit. Is it the best steak house in NYC? Maybe, maybe not but if you like meat you cannot miss this ...

1. We ordered steak for two. Not bad. We ordered medium rare but it looks medium or well done. 2. Service Unfriendly. 3. Price So so. Almost average in NYC steakhouses. 4. Drink I couldn’t believe it was tap beer.

Peter Luger was surprisingly casual for the price and reputation a restaurant of this caliber usually requires. You can wear anything here. It actually reminds you of a Bavarian beer hall more than anything. But don't let the look judge your time here because it is the stuff of legends. Peter Luger lives up to it's name. Our waiter was extremely attentive and never made sure we were without anything during the course of our meal. He even had a nice sense of humor, which can sometimes be hard to find in NYC. He even made sure to ask our names and shake our hands at the end of the meal. It was refreshing to see that kind of professionalism. As for the food, again, it was the stuff of legends. The bread was tasty, the bacon was worth the price of admission, and the steaks may have been the best i have ever had; and Morton's had my vote until last night. If you have a moderate appetite, the steak for two (40 oz) was relatively easy to take down for one individual. If you have room for dessert, the chocolate mousse cake and Cheesecake were sublime. Peter Luger makes you want to keep eating. Make sure you call for reservations like you would most places in NYC, because this place can get busy. You have to eat here at least once!

AMAZING! We finally got the opportunity after many years of trips to NYC to dine at Peter Luger's. It is an institution and the meal was incredible. The waiter was outstanding. The steaks arrived on sizzling plates and were perfectly prepared. Leave a little room for dessert, however difficult that might be, because dessert is out of this world.

One of the best burgers I have ever had. Highly recommend.

In New York City, change and tastes move fast. Simply put, there is no reason to go to into Brooklyn for this restaurant. There just better options, better value, and better service elsewhere. Waiters were largely inattentive, and had to be flagged for anything. Menu selection was small. This could have been acceptable, had the steak not been... Mediocre. For the meat purest, this may be a go to, but for a hungry diner? I will not be returning to PL, and I wish them the best in recovering their title of being best. They are not.

Vanessa Henderson

An amazing place with amazingly tasty food. If one wants to have the tastiest steak, this is the right place. They serve the food in a very creative manner and treat you in a very good way. The place is worth a visit.

Justin Reid

5 star place and exceptional customer service! Well organized place with nice interior decor. The sitting arrangement ws fantastic and view was amazing. Quality service!!

Supposed to be top notch steak restaurant but it turns out to be not as good as expected. Arrived a bit before weekday noon opening time (11:45) and there was already a long queue outside the restaurant. No reservation available the whole week so need to walk in. It turns out that one need to wait for at least 40 min to get a table but actually there are a few free tables (maybe they were reserved but after we finished the meal some of the tables were still empty). There are not many seats for walk-in customers who need to wait for table for 40min. So you can either choose the bar area or stand. Service is not 5-star in general. The bread starter is only ok. Cold bread. The steak is fast. And it is not as good as what we expected. But the portion is huge. Only to check this place out as this is so popular, but I don’t think I will recommend to friends or come back for more.

Some Servers are very unkind. I don't know why many people still have a good reputation on this steak house. I just tried to ask something to a server there, but the guy shout on me and say wait for 10 times. He was not doing anything at that moment, and I asked him with a good manner. I felt very unpleasant, and hope this restaurant goes bankruptcy. Also, I feel like they are only being rude to Asian. I really really dislike this place.

Jesse Campo

Been wanting to try Peter Luger for a while, and finally got around to doing it. Had to book a reservation 6 weeks in advance via their website. We had the bacon as an appetizer, steak for two, creamed spinach, and baked potato. I was really impressed with everything, particularly the steak. It's quite pricey, so it's probably a one time thing for me, but it was worth it.

Jake Hutchinson

Would certainly recommend visiting this place. Fantastic ambience, tasty food, good service. Keep it up.

Shamekia Gordon

My husband and I came here for lunch. We honestly wanted to see what all the hype was about. The food was good. The staff are very nice.

R Jones

The staff was above and beyond on my first visit to the fine establishment and made the experience even better.

Fernando Ayala Jr.

This steak is so tender and it needs nothing else. Peter Luger adds their special steak sauce, should you want additional flavor. Be sure to make reservations, as it fills up fast. They recommend the steak medium rare, but will prepare to your liking. It's in Brooklyn, a little ways from Manhattan, but worth the drive. There's a reason why they have all the awards.

Griselda Reyes

Peter Luger’s was amazing!! Our waiter was extremely nice and helpful with everything we needed. The steak was delicious as were the bacon slices! My 5 year old would have ate 10 of them if I let her lol Definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting the area. You can’t go wrong.

Kameron Walters

This spot is my preferred one. I visit a lot of restaurants but to this place I constantly return again and again. The crew is very receptive and the cooking they offer is so fresh and tasty. I never decline to have a nice dinner in this restaurant. Highly recommended.

Saturday, 1:00 reservation. Fantastic meal! My wife and I ordered a drink from the bar while waiting for our table. The entry/bar area was kind of loud and busy but we were seated within 10 minutes. The wait staff was very courteous and professional. Ordered the Caesar salad, bacon slices and shrimp cocktail for apps. The salad was amazing, bacon was ok - more of a slice of ham due to how large the slices were. The shrimp were huge but slightly overcooked. Had the steak for two medium rare and German potatoes. Hands down best steak we've ever had. The flavor and perfect cook cannot be overstated. Overall a huge win.

Incredibly delicious steaks. I love them very much. Amazing service.

Karla Ramirez

Overall great experience the food was very delicious. The meat is cooked as requested, I highly recommend it for the meat eaters.

Rudy Meyer

Eating at Peter Luger's was more an experience than food (it was good). Big wait even with reservation, great bar at the entrance, good service and perfectly cooked steak, but I have to say, steaks in Bolivia have much more taste. One thing a didn't like was that the waiter came back to demand more tip, because he thought it wasn't enough (tip is a way of valuing service, not a must)

Gary Collier

Not many restaurants can fill up their reservation book 6 weeks in advance, insist on cash only payment and yet take your credit card details to bill you in case of a no-show, but Peter Luger’s steakhouse in Brooklyn is one. According to some, it's the finest steakhouse in New York, and having visited Keens on 36th (excellent!) last time I was in the city, I was keen to give Peter Luger's a try. Bacon for starter and a huge prime rib for three for main course; the taste is excellent complemented well by Luger's steak sauce, up there with Keen’s and some of the very best steaks I’ve had in London. Our waiter turns out to be a Mancunian who grew up about 30 miles from me. He’s quite a character, berating me for not eating the fat off such high quality bacon, and joking about how his trips home to visit his mother happen to coincide with the Manchester Derby!

Edel Marcelino

The hype is well deserved for this place. This was the most buttery piece of meat I have ever had. Also the burger was super juicy. It's a bit of a trek from the city to get here but well worth it.

Triya Bhattacharya

The place needs no introduction, it had been on our to-visit list for a while. Finally got a chance to go on a Sunday lunch - we're glad we made reservations , reservations are highly recommended - the place was very crowded even though there's a lot of seating. The food was amazing, we tried the steaks, the lamb chops and the burgers - everything was delicious. The only reason for taking off one star was the service, it was slightly less warm than we expected it to be. But of course it's very crowded so I understand the servers' predicament. Overall it was an experience, definitely the best steak we've ever had and would recommend anyone to go there without a doubt

Brandon Carr

Steak was amazing! Amazing from start to finish! Impeccable service, fantastic server, definitely coming back the next time.

Scott Penny

Not that this restaurant needs my 5* review, but the food and service was excellent, top notch. We shared a steak for two, plus a burger. Both were superb, some of the best steak we've ever had and the burger was out of this world. Unmissable.

A & D Espi

This Legendary steak house has very good aged porterhouse steaks for 2,3 or 4 people. It's a bit pricey, cash only establishment. It's a casual older restaurant. Service isn't as good as the steak.

Ohad Orpaz

Was nice. Great steak. Although strip house was much much better.

Taylor Greene

Great spot. All of the appetizers are incredible. Apple strudle... get it. Bacon? Get it. Be prepared they only take cash and debit card... and make a reservation.

Derek McConnell

Love the butcher block style and no nonsense ordering. Steak was excellent but too raw for my parties taste. We ordered medium rare, but the center was straight up raw/cool to touch. Maybe that's Luger's take on med rare? Gives it an earthy taste. The bacon may seem like a rip-off at $7/strip but BUY IT.

Abder Benghanem

Mediocre at best. The family taste has soured over the years. Perhaps somethings aren't meant to be passed down to family, but rather to experts. Service should be better, but not terrible in the relevance scale.

Aaron Bajor

Awesome establishment and I love everything about it. Refreshing change of experience from a high-end, stuffy steakhouse too and you don’t have to worry about making many choices here. The steak itself was cooked to a medium rare perfection and the aging was great, although it would have been great with some coarse salt served on top. The creamed spinach and German potatoes were great too but portions a bit small. Lastly, the desserts were classics but a little underwhelming. Good wine list too, albeit pricey

MaryBeth Carroll

It's a classic for a reason. Make sure to get the bacon appetizer and the tomato appetizer. Then put them together and smother with Luger sauce. Divine combo. Steaks are great, as they should be. They're the star of the show. Creamed spinach is just right, as are the German potatoes. I don't usually go for dessert, but always save room if going to Luger's. Yes, they're famous for their hearty portions of whipped cream, but the apple strudel is so good. The ice cream sundae tastes as good as it looks. Every one should make the trip once. Tip: there's a parking lot across the street and a few steps down, offering free parking to Luger customers.

Jon Hayes

The steak was pretty good. I actually really liked the bacon more. The size of the steak was huge. We ordered the steak for 3 and it was more than enough for the 4 of us. Raw onions and tomato were a bit odd to me as a side dish, but I guess it’s a thing their famous for. While it was a good meal, I don’t know if it was really worth all the fanfare and effort to getting a reservation.

Tian Nan

Fantastic place for streak! It tastes so good! Although it may not look great on photos, but it’s taste is amazing . DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE!!! The desserts are also great here. We order one for each dessert. Cannot describe the feeling with words. One the best mean I ever have! 9 people totally spent 1050$. I think they need reservation. Walk in can be very tight. Give them a call, make a reset and enjoy it!

Ellis Richardv

It's known for its steaks and there is obvious reason behind that and the consistency is why it has a Michelin star. The bacon is amazing and the steak for two is the best steak you'll ever have.

Richard Lam

Steak was not all that and there is very limited choices. You choose how many persons and get what they default to, and I don't get how come the steaks don't get seasoned. My highlight was sadly the fries and bread during my visit. I don't get the hype and long lines but was fairly quick to serve once we sat down and ordered.

will Smith

Wow the stake was awesome I will definitely come back, drove 2 hours well worth it. I recommend it

Itay Paz

Great as always! Thank you for a wonderful dinner and experience. We have enjoyed the evening hosting our clients with you and they were super happy with the food quality and hospitality. Your team is great and the food is superb. Do not miss Peter Luger if you are coming to New York!

Leonardo Phillips

tried this spot for the first time and let me tell you how amazing their food is. those steak were so fat and juicy, it was the tastiest thing that I had in a long time.

Christina Kehoe

All time favorite! And if you haven't been here before - don't ask for the menu- get the classic steak for 2 with all the sides or talk to the regulars they know what's good! :)

Aaron Bajor

Sikun LIN

It’s expensive, it’s cash only, it’s even reservation only. But you just have to go here get the porterhouse while you’re in New York. Aging and cooking are both done just perfectly!! So juicy, tender and flavorful, I can’t recommend enough!

James White

From the food to the service, everything was a flawless experience. Booked a month ahead of time. They welcomed you to stay and really enjoy the whole meal which lasted 2 hours. 100% will be back.

David Yum

Wonderful steak, really unique and amazing. Our waiter insisted that we order without the menu and pushed us along- friendly and exuberant. We received the bill for 8 people which was chicken scratch; we had full stomachs and had drank a lot. He pushed away from getting us a menu and said he gave a deal on a few items so we just paid with a big tip. Later, after seeing the menu online, he actually did the opposite, overcharged and included the tip when he actually asked us to give him a special tip if we liked the service. Such an amazing institution and a wonderful meal, but being so ripped off from a jaded dishonest waiter ruined the place for all of us.

Frank Talarico

Went there last nite with my wife. We had made reservations 3 weeks ago and when. We arrived they said they did have our name and said they are fully booked. Terrible customer service we drove a hour ti get there. Bad customer service stay away

Rainer Schrom

Very few menu items (which is a good thing!) and very good food. Great steaks of course, but side dishes were fabulous. Desert was a bit of a disappointment, if you know and expect German cuisine. Simple interiors and friendly staff. Lots of tourists. Unfortunately overpriced. This is easily replicated for half the cost, if one only spends the money on top grade beef, and sears a 2-pound porterhouse steak with some butter in high heat.

Wei Chen

What's there to say about this place? It's just good!! Always order the porterhouse for two, not three. Always get the tomatoes and the creamed spinach. If you're there for lunch, the prime rib is to die for. Take your chocolate gold coins at the end home, because you need to eat the apple strudel with a mountain of schlag. The "holy cow" is always a happy ending for the kiddies.

Seth Galentine

Hands down THE best steak that I have ever had. I will eat here at least once on every trip that I make to NYC. UPDATE: Still batting 1.000 - 7 trips to NYC / 7 visits to Luger!! Every visit is as astoundingly delicious as the first!

Cheryl Chow

Family style steakhouse, with very reasonable price. The quality of the steak was amazing, and cook perfectly. Moreover, the bacon was very juicy, especially with their homemade sauce.

Nick Dyslin

Sadly, I can't write a review on the food. Took us an hour to get down there, and, ready to wait awhile to get a table, we were turned away, saying they're reservations only. No steak can be good enough that you can only have it if you make reservations weeks in advance. You should also make it more clear on your website, if that's your policy, since it says a portion of the dining room is available for walk-ins!! I also shouldn't have to dig around on your website to figure out if I can eat there or not. For a place that supposedly has such great service, they don't make it very accessible. Disappointing.

Marc Johnson

Absolutely magnificent! Everything perfect and our waiter, Aloysius was a pleasure and a delight. I’d go every week if I could!

Tian Nan

Jamie Kerr

Hands down the best Steak I have had in the city, a must try! Atmosphere is unique to itself and the servers are experts in their craft. This shared, PL’s is not the sexiest restaurant, the accompaniments to the steak are just standards, and if you’re here prime-time don’t expect to linger around all night.

Ignacio Mukadam

In a casual Brooklyn setting this place offers some of the best pieces of beef on earth. Their traditional no frills attitude and no card policy is sufficient to tell you that you are in one of the oldest steakhouses in America. Simply perfect...

Neeraj Kohli

Peter Luger lives up to the hype. Not cheap but well worth it. would definitely under order the steak if you want to enjoy appetizers and dessert - Steak portions are huge. The bacon appetizer is an experience not to be missed. Service was phenomenal. Highly recommended.

Tammy Liu

Made reservation months ago and had high expectations. Noticed that the majority of the customers were tourists. Service was great. Our server has been with Luger for 35 years, what a nice guy. The thick bacon and tomato onion salad were very good. The steak was 21 days aged and we asked for medium rare, with crispier outside. I think they over did it. The steak came out "burned" and dry, pretty cooked thru. As a result, the meat had bitterness. Of course, it didn't taste good. The German potato and cream of spinach also seemed over baked. Overall, we were very disappointed. This is an old restaurant with old fashioned cooking style and didn't adapt very well.

Alexandru Belu

The overall experience was pleasant and the food was good. The steak was a great cut cooked well but a little on the bland side for my taste. Needed a bit more salt and pepper to get the meat to shine. We shared six steaks across nine people and a bunch of sides. The onion wings really shined the fries, German fries (aka hash browns) and creamed spinach were also good. We had the house Cabernet and a Malbec. The latter was spot on the house wine was decent. We rounded out the evening with one of each desert. The opinions were mixed here. Some who had a sweet tooth really liked the chocolate cake and sundae. These were too sweet for me but the key lime pie and apple strudel were worth every penny . Overall the whole night set us back 1200 tips included. Given the high price tag and the high expectations the place was good but fell short.

Yumee

I had the best steak I’ve ever had from peter luger, and all of my friends who have been here say the same. I got the beef steak cooked medium and medium-rare each time I visited, and medium rare is so buttery and it melts in your mouth. Also, it’s quite affordable for a quality steak, and the service is amazing.

Ibhm

Honestly given the prices, everything was just a bit underwhelming. Perhaps the place is just too classic for my liking - and I think steakhouses in general can be ridiculously overpriced. Tasty food but nothing really exceptional. Steaks were average. Service was attentive but not the friendliest or most knowledgeable. For $150-200/person for a full dinner, you definitely can get better elsewhere in NYC. I won’t come again!

Luiza Calandra Jugdar

Super traditional place. Great drinks, amazing food and impeccable service. Definitely going back. Oh! And the golden coins of course...those are also part of the experience. When in Brooklyn a must go to place. Remember to take cash!

Han Deng

Creamed spinach is very good. Steak sauce is slightly sweeter than other places. Steak has good texture / nice crust, but less flavourful than some other steakhouses.

Mike Li

Butter and steak drippings were great in this no frills and excellent restaurant. Quick staff. Make reservations well in advance for a weekend night. It was worth the wait. Creamed spinach and shrimp cocktail were great additions. $250 for 2 ppl including tip (4 sides and 2 drinks) was priced appropriately just to give perspective to other reviews that were left mentioning price.

PeteSTRADAMUS

The food was amazing! I loved it! Service was great, some of the best steak I had.

joseph devine

Walked in Sunday afternoon without reservation. Told needed to wait an hour and did, and you know what, that burger was worth it. Fries while very good should have been better, cooking oil not hot enough? Shrimp n bacon excellent. Waiter was very helpful. They do not list producers of wines by glass which was a bit curious, maitre d could have been a bit more cheerful. Best burger I've had in years. I'll be back.

Jacob Thomas

Sit at the bar and order: - sliced tomato, onions appetizer - slice of bacon appetizer - the burger - the porterhouse Don’t be shy and mix all of these. Sizzle the tomatoes and onions on the steak plate. Dip the burger bite by bite in the same sizzle. Etc etc You’re welcome.

Ignacio Bernal

After my 3rd time in NY I finally was able to experience this location. Ribeye was amazing along with some broccoli and a baked potato. For dessert we had the chocolate mousse. our waiter was also excellent!

Baskets Beyond Hawaii

We heard so much about this steakhouse, we were not disappointed. Dried age steak made to perfection. Shabo was a fantastic server, definitely coming back the next time we’re in New York

Wayne Lin

A must try old school steak house in NYC! Reserve in advance and take out cash for the bill. Their porterhouse cut was phenomenal! Perfectly cooked medium rare with a crispy seared crust. For dessert the pecan pie is a must.

Marlene Glazer

excellent steak and creamed spinach. salad with bacon great too. excellent waiter too. very pricey and hard to get a reservation

Yoed Negri

We booked in advance and still they kept us waiting for 15 min. The choice of steaks is given which is not our preferred option for a stake house. The service was good. They DON'T accept credit cards which is a shame at 2019.

AnJu Lin

I visited the place during weekday lunch time together with my wife, daughter, and parent in law. Steak was amazing! Bacon also was wonderful! The services were experienced and friendly. My parent in law were totally falling in love with the place. Totally worthy of the prices. Very recommended and I really want to visit again.

Joshua Robbins

Peter Lugar Steam House is a great place for a dinner or lunch. The food is absolutely amazing and they have a lot of different meals in the menu. They have interesting drinks. The customer service is five stars so good job.

Denise Law

I readily found parking one street over. The wait to be seated was not long. It was not too busy for lunch time. The hamburger was delicious even though it was cooked more than I asked. The mashed potatoes were creamy and dreamy and tasted like grandma used to make. There are dessert options for everyone, including the health-conscious or lactose-intolerant like myself.

Uzair Haq

Its reputation speaks for itself. By far one of the best steakhouses in the city. The steak is incredibly tender and their special sauce adds great flavour!

Steve C 032

I've been coming here for more than twenty years. Yeah, there's usually a wait even when we have a reservation....that kinda sucks, but once we're seated, it's so well worth it. I really love the extra thick bacon. That is good. We've had the "steak for two" numerous times, but the issue with that is my personal tastes. I don't like things rare or medium; most of the time I order it well done. I usually get a lot of reactions from buddies and even servers when ordering that way, but oh well, that's my taste. I really love the Sundaes! The service is hit and miss, but really, the food is so good, I tend to let that slide.

Lily Kim

Fantastic spot to grab some food when in a hurry. Their service is swift, pricing is reasonable, good ambience. Keep up the good work

Alexandria Simpson

The porterhouse steak is phenomenal and the service was fantastic. We were immediately greeted upon entrance. The service was excellent. Overall great meal. Can't wait to come back!

roberta hunter

Fabulous steak and the sides are excellent too. Loved the onion rings, spinach and potatoes. And the bacon is scrumptious. Desserts delighted all. We staggered out.

Masakazu Tanaka

The taste of steak for two is unforgettable. Don't forget the appetizer bacon. Dessert whipped cream is also exquisite.

Lena De Guzman

High end steak place, but didn’t feel snobbish at all. We booked a couple of weeks ahead for a party of 9. Our server was fun and friendly. Steak servings are generous, remember to leave space for their amazing desserts. My favorite was their pecan pie. This was worth the $$$$.

Nicole Hackett

The steak was soooooo delicious, so was the cheesecake. Everything including the service was so efficient and the workers were very courteous and efficient.

J J

I was underwhelmed. The potatoes were the best part while the steak was not cooked to my desired temperature. I've had better steak.

Peter Law

2 hrs wait even with reservation. Food was great! We had steak for 4 with spinach and German potatos. Cash only!

robert marks

This place is generally seen as one of the best steak houses in New York and I am glad I was finally able to try it. I'd highly recommend making reservations. You can make them online or over the phone. I actually arrived half an hour before my reserved time and got seated within a couple minutes. The steak was simply amazing. One of the best I have ever had and was cooked to perfection.

Brian Edwards

Recently celebrated my future mother's in-law's birthday at the Great Neck location. Service was great and the staff were accommodating. The steak for 4 is always great and the prime rib cut the mother had was beyond excellent. All that was needed was a bit more pineapple juice in her cup. Highly recommended!

Jerard Kemper

Pretty famous place in NYC! Always busy and crowded! Reservation is a must! Going straight to the steaks! There is not many options, but however all the options are good! We tried Rib Steak, caesar salad for starters and potatoes! It's very pricey, it was like 80$ per person including a drink!

Richard Ago

Good was great. Suggest you go. Steak for one is big enough for two. Share just one slice of bacon

Jacqueline Chan

Excellent food & service! Very nice funny waiter and love their aged steak!! Two thumbs up

Tze Jin Ng

One of the most satisfying steak in NYC. Location is certainty not the best, but for the sake of quality steak, the travel is always worth it

AD C

T-bone Steak was really awesome! Fantastic crust and juicy and tender on the inside. Sides were great too - liked the German potatoes and onion rings. Dessert was sweet but delicious - had the sundae, cheese cake and lime pie. The house red went well with the food. Service was good too. Overall a must try if you haven't been.

Simon Lee

Classic Peter Luger Steak House. Everything is good, I'm fine with waiting and hour even though I made a reservation a month prior. Just wish they were little less rude when my group and I arrived to check-in.

Steak 5 stars! Service 5 stars! What else can you say...drive from Connecticut just to eat here...Loud, super busy, rustic/ worn, BUT WHO CARES!!! You are eating one of the finest steaks , if not the finest , in all of tri state area..delicious!

Romeo L

They serve large dishes and for convenient pricing. welcoming staff members. Fantastic work.

Rita DiCocco

Best steak and great service. I wouldn’t advise trying to dine there without a reservation, but prompt seating with reservation. Steak needs no seasoning and sides are delicious.

Michael Moses

Super solid steak restaurant. Price is aligned with white linen spots in mid-town, but the casual atmosphere adds enjoyment and fun back to eating a steak. Service is top notch and friendly, nothing uppety here to boot. Plan on around $150-200 with a drink each for 2 people.

Chuck Newton

food is awesome here ! try their new york strip steak medium well!! THEE ABSOLUTE BEST

There is a reason why this place is iconic. Great porterhouse steak. Everything else doesn't matter.

Peter Luger was one of the worst dining and hospitality experiences I have had. We were so excited to go as we are from Brooklyn and know it well. My brother has food allergies and we asked for his steak to be cooked separately to avoid butter, an easy request for any restaurant. They immediately made him feel like an outsider bringing two different managers and inevitably deciding that they couldn't guarantee no butter would touch the food. I am in the business and so rather than make a scene, I waited till the end of dinner (which my brother did not eat) and thought I would politely speak to the managing partner in private. He immediately raised his voice and made a scene in his own restaurant, sharing that he did nothing wrong and lied saying he said he would take care of us. It got so bad that people in the restaurant, including his partner were mortified. Great service and hospitality starts from the top. Of all service experiences, this was one of the worst I have experienced. If you or your family members have special requests, I highly recommend staying away. Additionally, the food was mediocre at best. Try Strip House or any other steak in NYC.

We traveled from Manhattan to Brooklyn to go this "Best Steakhouse in New York a/k/a in America." We could have used their.. dare I say it... steak sauce on cardboard and it would taste great. The Steak was huge, perfectly cooked and awesome. The sides were generous and great. The wait staff are helpful. Bring cash! They don't take credit cards.

The service was great at Peter Luger, with the waiters being the proper amount of attentive without being obtrusive. The appetizers we ordered were very good as well, with the bacon being the highlight of the meal. The tomato and onion slices were surprisingly sweet and delicious with the steak sauce on top. We ordered spinach, potatoes, and onion rings as sides with our meal. They were on the same tier as any other steakhouse; in other words, good, but did not stand out It’s the steak that’s supposed to be the highlight of the meal at a steakhouse; however, that was not the case. We ordered a steak for four done medium-rare and a steak for one done medium. The steaks came out sizzling on their plates and looking good. The first pieces that we were served were at the proper temperature, but the meat continued to cook on the dishes, resulting in medium-well meat by the time we finished. Consensus after the meal was that the steak was mediocre and did not reach anyone’s list of top five steaks we’ve had. At about $600 for the meal described here, including tax, tip, and a round of four beers, the meal was a let down. To end on a more positive note, I’d like to pass on my friends’ recommendation that I now agree with: “The bacon is phenomenal. Go there for the bacon.”

Lizzy

Recommend medium to rare steak for juiciness. If you like to eat bread and some other side dishes, order the porterhouse with one less portion than the number of people.

Mark Dighton

Old school excellence. But you have to like steak or lamb or fish. Limited menu; no pork (except for their signature thick - cut bacon) or poultry. Everything done just so. But nothing I would call exciting. It's just a proto steak house.

Dee Bos

The waiter was so professional and courteous! The bacon appetizer was the best bacon I have ever eaten! My main course was lamb chops, potatoes and creamed spinach which was delicious!! My dessert was so good you have to go there to experience it... I had “Apple Strudel” and it comes with a mountain of whipped cream on the side!!!! I tried my partner’s steak and it was delicious! Quality service, nice ambiance and great food!!

Mark Leung

Ordered medium rare steak turns out to be a medium well cooked steak with a medium rare sign on it. Not something you expect from what they called it the best steakhouse in the world. Update: came back one year after to give it another shot. Website said walk-ins are welcomed but on arrival they said no walk-ins. Should’ve updated their website to avoid people wasting time.

Yin chong Boey

The meats are luxurious and very well cooked! Quite an experience and if you aren't a big eater skip the sides... good interactions from the waiters! And don't take too much of the lovely bread too.. save it for the beef..

jay lim

I eat in this spot a lot since I work right next to it. I like how the service is always excellent and they keep the place well kept all the time. Pricing is fair and they serve big portions.

Hamilton Wexler

I can’t believe this place has the reputation it has. One of the least satisfactory dining experiences I have ever experienced. We went to a Chili’s last week and can honestly say we had better service there. The steak was middle of the road at best. Would not recommend this place at all. Very disappointed

Burak Ciceksoy

One of the best steak in the world. I highly recommend you to taste this!

이정원

Of course, Meat is good, but very crowd by waiting visitors. So waiter(server) pushed and made us getting out of there by some way like giving check to me without my request or take our dishes. At that time, We had stayed only just one hour. I can't mark stars 4 point or more here. Just for meat, there is good.

Nafez Al Dakkak

Absolutely phenomenal steak and very good service. The guys at the front desk are not the most polite but the service is excellent once you are seated. Do not come without a reservation and note that they do not accept credit cards. They also struggle with international debit cards so best to come with cash (expect around $70 per head)

Giuseppe Galletti

One of the best places, if not the best one, in New York for steaks! Sadly it is basically impossible to make a reservation of not months in advance, even with their new online system. I'll keep trying because it is totally worthy! Beyond their meat, the sides are phenomenal as their crafted beer! The service is also very professional and not rude at all as people say!

Oliver Plank

The Steak was really one of the best i I have ever had!!! At the point, delicious and soft. Fries could have been a bit more crispy. Our Server was a bit offish, our Friend said, last time he got a nice explanation about the meat. This time not. Very disappointing in my eyes is, to drink a very good wine out of the cheapest Glasses you can get. A good Glass of wine needs a good Glass. And in a restaurant like this, i except that.

M G

Expensive. Rude staff. I guess it's part of the character of this place and worth it for the great food. Steak for 2 was delicious. Avoid the German potatoes (dry/burnt) and the desserts (which we saw a few tables leave barely touched)... Stick to what they're known for.

Marc Donner

Classic steakhouse. Been operating since the 1800s, and the decor reminds you of that. Staff is friendly, competent, and attentive. Menu is everything you would expect. Steak means porterhouse. That's all they do. Tomatoes and onions FTW. Cash only, but in a pinch they will take your check. Arrive hungry. Go home in a wheelbarrow

Jesse William

Guess I caught them on a bad day. Steak was mediocre. Good service. Nest location.

Christopher Thorjussen

Super steak. What else can you desire? Yes, bacon too! Cash only place though, always packed, so book ahead. Great staff, just don't try to do their job ;)

Max Puthongkham

Man. Peter Luger Steak House is awesome. The steak is the best ever I've ever had. For two people, I would go with the Steak for Two, which is a lot (although didn't seem like that for the first glance). The service is also impressive. For the logistics, I would recommended people to reserve for the table. It can be full even for lunch. Everyone should try it.

Peter Luger has been on my list for sometime now. When I planned my trip to NYC it had to be part of the experience. And it definitely was an experience that will be remember for a long long time. Long story short is we met two wonderful new friends as we waited in line and then we shared a meal together. And swapped story's over a few burgers & frys and a beautiful rib steak. I'm giving it five stars due to the ambiance and the new friends that were made and of course the CRUST on the steak brought a smile to my face. Definitely worth the visit.

Steve Chernoff

This is my go to for special occasions there's a free parking lot and plenty of street parking but I recommend using the lot after dropping off your companions and then taking the very small walk there's a fantastic bar to sit or stand at during busy periods the bartenders are willing to help answer any questions you may have but please remember they're getting paid to serve drinks not spend a large amount of time giving you the ingredients of the salad I always get the large shrimp cocktail and share it if you have a party of four also get the lamb chops to share as another apertizer their porterhouse is the best steak I've ever eaten in my 59 years on this earth for sides I always get the cream spinach and German home fries there's other sides but I've never saw the need for to order them desert I've tried almost all of them but I always have the pecan pie with their great homemade whipped cream expect to drop close to $175 per person with drinks Remember to make your reservation at least 1 1/2 months before you are going otherwise you'll be having a very early dinner at 4 or late 10pm expect to wait even with a reservation but this is a best steakhouse in NYC let that sink in casual dress the place looks like a sawdust on the floor bar but don't let that fool you the service is always excellent

Mark Adams

I went here while I was in Brooklyn as I'd seen the review of the burger on New York Insider. I can see why this place is a NY intuition. As to the burger, well it's definitely of the classic burger variety. I added cheese and fries but skipped the bacon as I felt the $6.95 surcharge was way too high. It's a well made burger definitely made from good quality beef, but I was a little underwhelmed overall.

Misha Bluvshteyn

This place is great. It's just about steaks, simple delicious steak. They have chicken and fish option but their stake is great. There is no fancy names or sauces or special chefs. The options for steak are either for one, two, three or four people and to what temperature you want the steak to be cooked to.

Ahmad Hazem

Worth the hype. I’ve paid a lot more for steak before, none were as good. Not by a mile. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation. They book out weeks in advance. Sure you can walk in early in the evening and on a slow night you might find a table or a bar spot, but if you’re traveling from out of town definitely plan ahead. Staff very knowledgeable, and very friendly. Treated us like we were house regulars even though it was our first time. Steak as I said tasted heavenly.

It's been a few years since I've been to Peter Luger. In my memories it has always been the best steak... Locked there in 1st place for years. But over the years I've experienced more restaurants especially steakhouses. Was it nostalgia that kept Peter Luger number one? I finally made the trip back to Peter Luger. The first high end steakhouse I ever visited. Peter Luger is a German steakhouse whose signatures are the bacon, burgers, and the Porterhouse. The wait staff is softer that when I first visited... That's a good thing and goes with the time. They are attentive and ever present. The decor is very basic... Basically a well lit biergarten. The attention is on the meat. If you're looking for a huge menu or lots of appetizers... Well this isn't it. You come to Peter Luger for steak, bacon, or burgers. Just about everything else takes a side seat. The bacon has the right amount of seat, fat, juiciness, and crunch. The wedge salad with the bacon and blue cheese is decadent in taste. The burgers are juicy and give you a deep feeling of satisfaction. The steak... Cooked in traditional German style and dry aged. The flavor is well concentrated. Each bite has a heavy filling taste. There is the right amount of crust and char to each slice of beef. To me this is still the best steak I've ever had. Peter Luger isn't the most romantic place, the dining room doesn't ooze any pretentious character... Peter Luger is where you satisfy that craving for high quality beef and for me is still the best steak I've ever had.

Ling Curtis

Solid place if you LOVE steak. I am not the biggest meat person but enjoyed it all the same. The bacon starter was tasty and flavourful. The fries could have been better / crispier. If you’re craving meat, book ahead as it’s a busy place!

Hyeonsu Lee

Taste was great. But I rate this restaurant as 4 stars because of such a horrible service that I’ve never experienced in any restaurants before. The server almost threw the plate on the table. He was really rude. I felt like he was a racist but it seemed like he was just rude for everyone.

Greg Weglarz

Your options are:steak or steak. Get the steak. Cash only, so load up on Benjamins before going. Drinks are good. Soup is really good. Lots of food. Desserts are top notch, not frilly, just really good.

Billy Kolber

Simply the best steak in the city, if not the planet. Service is friendly, but you don't come here for the service or the ambiance. Be sure to order the creamed spinach, and save room for the chocolate mousse cake.

Ilan

Peter Luger is probably one of the best-known steak houses in the world. Is it worth the hype? Yes and no. It's better to have reservations in advance, I had mine about a week before our visit. The good - The bar. While you wait to be seated, there is an impressive, classic looking bar. Good selection of drinks. The highlight - The meat is good. Really good. We had a delicious porterhouse with a side of German potatoes (basically, oven-baked potato heaven - The photo doesn't do it justice). I like the fact that this was no butter-salt-pepper kind of serving. The meat can speak for itself. The service - We had a grumpy and cheerful (strange mix but totally works!) waiter with a very fitting Irish accent. I would say he added more "flavor" to our meal than any other things we had during our lunch. The not so good - It's not cheap, and you can't use your credit card. They do accept debit cards. While the steak was delicious, I can't say it's better than any other good steaks we had. I'm not sure why the restaurant is so hyped, to be honest. The demand allows them to raise prices, but you can have a similar steak and cheaper costs in other establishments. I had fun, but it's overpriced and overhyped. P.S No need for formal attire, at least not during lunchtime.

Enzo Zhan

Great steak. Ok waiters. Rude receptionist

Erika Ty

Amazing! Everytime I visit NY I make sure I stop by Peter Luger's. Staff are extremely personable and friendly and the food is always delicious. The fact that I can now book my reservation online makes it so much easier!

Nc Kane

Great food. Great service. For the price it should be: )

Tatum Tsu

Food is amazing! Absolutely love it! One of the best steaks I ever had! Get dessert for the homemade whip cream! It’s delicious

Spencer Kresmery

A bit over priced but my wife and kids are huge fans of there bacon. Our waiter Greg attended school with Debra and I. He’s always been a cheerful guy. He hasn’t changed. Good food & Awesome time reconnecting with old friends in such a rustic atmosphere. Overall was a great experience.

Michael Wong

Yes this is a tourist destination. But I have to say the STEAKS are AMAZING. Cooked perfect and seasoned just right. The side dishes are fine. You need to order the bacon. Good alcohol selection. What more do you want. Oh yes the service is pleasant efficient and accommodating. We had four people ordered 2 steaks for 2 medium rare.

Edna Banks

I came here excited. The guy at the front said I wouldn't be disappointed. He was right. Don't come here without a reservation or you'll be waiting for a long time. Unless you come early on a weekday. Then the wait isn't as long. We ordered the bacon for an appetizer. That was the prelude. We ordered the steak for 2 with cream of spinach and German potatoes. I see why they are the best steakhouse. I can't find a word better then excellent. It was that damn good. Dab it with their house sauce and you have perfection. Thank you Peter Lugers. That was great meal. I will come back.

We didn't have high expectations, worrying that this would be a tourist trap since Peter Luger is so famous. However the porterhouse steak was really good, we almost couldn't finish. The bacon was a nice starter too. Portions are huge, expect a food coma after the meal

M Garza

I just enjoyed their dishes. I always get fantastic service here. The place is well organised and the cashiers are always super nice. Will visit here again.

We finally made a trip to Williamsburg to try out this famous steakhouse. We went there right before they open. A line already formed outside of their door. We did not make any reservations so we had to wait a while to get seated. The decor is old school type but I like their comfy and spacious seating. We generally don’t like cold bread but the bread we were served were surprisingly good. We ordered steak for two in medium rear. When the steak was delivered to our table, the plate was sizzling hot it’s the juice from the fat of steak running around the plate! Yes, the steak is phenomenal - quality meat cooked in perfection!!! Our waiter was very attentive with a sense of humor. Overall it’s a very pleasant dining experience. We will come back next time for sure!

Adrian Douglas

Always ana amazing dinner here. Definitely make reservations 1-2 weeks out and plan on waiting a few when you get there. They now take debit card instead of just cash. We sat upstairs last night & got the porter house for two. Also ordered the tomatoes & onions and creamed spinach. The steak was amazing as was everything else. Cant go wrong here!

Rob Gee

Not crazy about the place all big hype huge tourist trap I don't think it's worth it. I would like to be quite honest. I do like the Peter Luger sauce but I buy it in the supermarket

Joe G

I loved my experience here. I tried to eat dinner here three different times during my stay in Brooklyn, and every time it was booked. Luckily on my last day i was in the area right when it opened for lunch. I was able to get a seat at the bar within a second of walking in. I got the steak for 1, and wow was it amazing. The steak sauce they give you is soooo good. The bartender was a glorious guy. And the server was great. I gave him a nice tip because boy these guys bust their butts. Super busy place but well worth the wait. I will be back.

Genie Jiin Choi

Best steakhouse in New York. Meat was very tender and I loved their sides and bread

Alyssa Schmith

Overrated!! Food was not worth the price. Service was alright. I wasn't wooed by anything. The onion and tomato appetizer is awful. Thick cut raw onion? What the hell? The bacon was pretty good, in all honesty, some od the best. The steak was a great cut, huge (got it for 3 cooked med rare), but wasn't to wild. Their steak sauce is homemade cocktail sauce.
