This Restaurant corresponds to the category of French restaurant.
Beautiful bistro with excellent food and service. My go to French restaurant in this area.
Always love this place. Felix is best waiter, and the Coq au Vin and both Tartares are amazing, classic preperations.
simple, but on the money when you want straightforward french bistro cuisine. the decor is plainly authentic. and the service is quite french, but too much. it is a nice spot for lunch, especially the outdoor terrace on nice days, and when you feel like taking advantage of the price fix selection.
Good place for watching the games and eat good pizza.
Lovely, old school bistro. Amazing service, delicious food.
Food was good but it was quite loud and the service wasn't great.
Great service & incredible food
Simply fabulous. Excellent food & service. Very French. A must go whenever I am in NYC.
Appropriately French in its service style and food prep.
Very much of a traditional restaurant. Reliable, proper with good food.
Best food, atmosphere and service ever!
Food, service and wine were all amazing.
Nice french cuisine and dishes. I enjoyed the tastes very much. There was a bit of lack in service but the food made up for it. The pricing is a bit high, but not bad at all! You should try this place.
Excellent French bistro. I like the tartare. Not a cheap restaurant, but still a very good value.
Greggor is WONDERFUL
Simply said ,old New York.
great local bistro...menu has a little of everything, hard not to find something you'll love. fun with friends or family, not my idea of a date place. everything is pretty good, but avoid the pate...
Sofisticated French Bistro
Always a lovely stop for a drink after a day at the MET, catching up with a girlfriend, or popping in before Shakespeare at the Park.
Great food and will patronize again.
Sublime food and service
Good food in a nice atmosphere. May 2019 got food poisoning will not go back.
INCREDIBLE bread. Attentive service. Love!
We were here for a reception in their upstairs room. Lovely place, wonderful service, and absolutely delicious hors d'oeuvres. I would recommend this for an event, and I would have to assume their dinners are delicious as well. Very pretty art deco decor.
Overall we had a lovely time and appreciated the delicious authentic French food. We also always enjoy the art nouveau decorating . Today at brunch we found the menu diverse and the prices reasonable. The charcuterie platter was unbelievable. The hanger steaks were cooked to order and the béarnaise tasted great. My husband enjoyed his floating island. Juliette was a helpful, gracious and congenial waitress. One comment though: if you mean to charge an extra fee when the customer asks to substitute spinach for fries, the waitstaff needs to be trained to let the customers know at the time of order. Also the menu should be specific about that.
Good food, classic New York place. Nice for a glass of wine and lunch. The tuna burger was a little under done but everything else was great. Instagram @100wordsofstory
Outstanding almond crust salmon
Excellent place; extremely classy with superior service. Very well done.
A bit on the expensive side, but what isn't on the upper east side. Great food and wonderful atmosphere.
Great french food! Everyhting is so delicious and the staff is always accomodating.
Excellent fare!
Can't go wrong with this restaurant that has been around for ages while others have closed all around them.
Wonderful French food accompanied with excellent service, all for a very reasonable price. The chilled poached salmon is especially delectable on a warm summers day.
Eh. It's passable. Not too expensive but not cheap either. The dinner menu is middle-of-the-road, perhaps even a bit expensive for the quality. I like the atmosphere, customers & staff are pleasant and they have a good wine list. Meat is great, fish is consistently bland, however.... Brunch is this place's only redeeming quality. Bright sun warms your back on the enclosed porch area while you chase away the previous night's hangover with a bottle of wine and an enormous cake of steak tartar.
Good food, but very noisy
Excellent food and service. Very attentive wait staff. Nice atmosphere and I sat outside on a lovely day.
We had our son’s Rehearsal Dinner for 63 guests at the Orsay a week ago and had to post how great the experience was from start to finish. Not only did they meet our expectations but the Orsay far exceeded them. The food, service, venue, attention to detail was beyond compare. Every last dish was beautifully prepared , presented and absolutely delicious. The bar and wait staff were pleasant, professional and efficient. You really would think you were in Paris. Melanie the Event coordinator was a dream to work with. She had great menu suggestions and worked with us daily to create the outstanding evening that guests will talk about for years. If you are looking for a special evening or event...this is the place for you!
Awesome French restaurant. Maitre Hassan is super nice! Get the steak tartare or the escargot.
loved la goulue. they are opning up again.
Service wasn't great, but the food was.
It's a classic UES French experience. Lovely wine list and they make a fine Vesper.
Everything about this place was great. We loved it.
Lovely french style restaurant. Coming from a french-american, this is a go to place. Although it is pricey, it is worth it.
Ok food. Nice ambience. Over priced
Such a lovely experience with some of the most exceptional service I have ever had the chance to enjoy. The waiters were prompt, but not overbearing and gave me ample time to eat my meal and enjoy the conversation that I was having with another patron. The food was fantastic and was very well prepared. I look forward to eating here again the next time I visit New York.
Fantastic drinks and service. Wonderful ambiance.
We made a good choice tonight by coming to this restaurant. The grilled octopus, Dover sole and chocolate mousse were fantastic. Will keep them on our list of favorites.
Big and busy place. Crouded in a good way. Traditional Franch food, Paris style. Excellent service. Good food and deserts. Good atmosphere. Our group enjoyed the evening. Will be back.
Great brunch. Fantastic eggs Benedict, service and ambiance.
Great wine and food.
great for large groups as well as for a more intimate dinner. the wine list is to die for. equally well-prepared steaks and seafood. definitely leave room for dessert and have the profiteroles or the chocolate tart
The food is amazing. I loved the cozy and beautiful ambiance, I will be returning for dinner next time I'm in NY
For a French bistro, the French dishes should be decent. The Snapper was mediocre, and the salads were overloaded with truffle oil. However, the burgers were quite good. Still, why go to a bistro when there are good burgers elsewhere?
Excellent old school French bistro. Great brunch choice
We shared the duck confit, the coq au vin, and the tart tartin. The service is attentive and knowledgeable, the food is stellar, the place is beautiful. I usually like places that are a little cozier, and it is a bit on the expensive side, but none of that detracts from the overall experience. We'll certainly be going there again and working our way through the menu.
I eat here a lot since I work close by. I like how the customer service is always fantastic and they keep the spot clean all the time. Pricing is affordable and they serve large portions.
My neighbors like. It's all right. One.block down From.Park to Lexington. Last night was very crowded. My wife likes French cousine. We like the Martinis, food is ok.I actually prefer going to Orsay them a step out to Boloud!
Good food.
Excellent date night place to visit! Fantastic drinks and very delicious food! Both romantic for couples and fun for groups!
Atmosphere terrific, but food below par
Love this old restaurant, worth visiting. Great location, ambience and excellent cuisine.
Everything good except for the lotte which was dry
Not the first time in this place and every time is an amazing experience .
As close to a Parisienne Bistro as you will get in Manhattan.
Superb period interior with exquisite food and vino options, with highly attentive service. Loud interior sound level. You will not forget the tab.
Amazing mix of colors, textues and flavord on otherwise classic french menu! Loved it. I will be back!
Always a pleasure. Make reservation prior to guarantee a table. I just love the tuna tartar and the artichoke. It's a formal place with an art nouveau look and feel.
Loved my three course luncheon. The omelet was amazing with caviar and the blintz wow! I can't wait to return, in fact, I am now making softer omelets at home, thanks for the tip!
Staff is so friendly and warm. Food is just delicious, never disappoints! Love this place. Thank you for the great service!
Great food and atmosphere
The food is good but not exceptional.I regret to say, the service was spoilt by rude waitresses. Not the service you expect in the USA
ORSAY had good food but they are TOTALLY INCOMPETENT WITH DELIVERY! ....they forget a side salad--which goes with the dish?.....they forget the french fries with a burger?...they forget butter - if you ask for " bread and butter".?... for the money, order somewhere else!...they are ridiculously expensive to always have an issue with simple things like-- CAN'T THEY JUST INCLUDE WHAT IS STATED ON THE MENU DESCRIPTION... 10 TIMES ALREADY THIS IS AN ISSUE!
Good bistro. Like being in Paris.
This place made my birthday celebration so special and enjoyable! Delicious food and great service. Definately coming back!
Awesome place, excellent service!
Been to Orsay 4 times and the ambiance and food is great. Service is very good as well. I highly recommend it. Their duck is really amazing.
One of my favorite places on the Upper East Side Great bar great bar food grade table food always great service superb French food always busy
Service very cold......
A true favorite - grest food great service great atmosphere - ALWAYS A GREAT EXPERIENCE!
Food is delicious and prepared well. Great attention to detail and service.
Food is good, but not exceptional good. Service can be better. But things here is kind of overpriced. I came to this place because I read a blog about nice food in NYC. But I doubt I would recommend this place.
The atmosphere and service were superb. However, the food was not worth the steep price.
Delicious....Nice dinner.
My complements to the Chef and and staff. Always a pleasure to eat there. Never a disappointment.
We held our rehearsal dinner of 65 people in the private dining room upstairs at Orsay and had the absolute best experience. From our first meeting with Melanie, we knew we were in great hands. Melanie walked us through every step of the way and worked with us to help throw the best party. We had gone to the restaurant a few months prior and were blown away by the food and overall experience. Needless to say, the food at our rehearsal dinner was beyond extraordinary (don’t get me started on the incredible wine selection) and the service was top notch. The staff was extremely responsive, kind, professional and attentive and the décor of the private room is romance defined. We cannot recommend Orsay highly enough. Thank you, Melanie, for being absolutely superb in every way!
Lovely! Oh so very Upper East Side!
Open New Years
Good service, very good french food, superb wine selection .
Absolutely gorgeous space, beautiful art nouveau details, wood, brass, feels like a high class bistro straight out of 1910. Doesn't feel tired at all either, in terms of upkeep or their very energetic staff (which also has a classic politeness which is quite refreshing). A very reasonable happy hour too! Give yourself an excuse to stop in.
Beautiful classic spot in nyc. Love the French music. Def got the theme down with it feeling like france
Food excellent. Service good on crowded Mother's Day. But all was wonderful.
Excellent happy hr. Good Cote de Rhone wine and tartare de boefe was great
Iconic. Superb service.
Calling all romantics and francophiles - Orsay is truly the best Parisian restaurant in NYC -UES located next door to St. Jean Baptiste (Catholic Church). Sit at the Parisian bar (that long and curvy) and be served by a host of highly professional servers or even better reserve a table for 1, 2 or a group. The terrace is really nice and romantic in nice weather and for people watching. You will be not be sorry. It is literally the best restaurant in the 70s looking very French on the corner as any stylist restaurant should. Don't miss out visitng Orsay especially if you have friends from out of town or visiting NYC.
Classic french american bistro
Fun place, French bistro, escargot and skate were great
I love the steak tartare here. Joey and Hans at the bar are really awesome. A+ care and service. among the best places on the Upper East Side in terms of food, service and hospitality. also love the turn of century ambiance - feels very French bistro circa 1900.
Delicious French food that is reasonable priced
Food is really good. Pricey. A bit noisy.
Great energy, fantastic food, and attentive service. Don’t miss the steak or tuna tartare!
Amazing. The atmosphere alone is well worth spending time here.
Decent place, not overly fancy decor, way overpriced, service good, menu lacking of other french restaurants I've been to
Amazing French Restaurant. Delicious food & friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend.
Good service with good foods. There was no rush even though it was busy place, you and your company can enjoy the conversation. Gazpacho soup, steak, mussels & french fries, sorbet, tartar, pistachio profiteroles... these pictures can tell thousand words.
I have eaten here perhaps 100 times. Never disappoints.
Food is very plain, nothing special. Wine glass was smelling fishy. There's nothing that makes this place special nor should be anyone's first choice.
Pretty estremece but good
1 star for food, 5 star for service. Average 3
Authentic French bistro cuisine, fantastic service
Just french food, overrated, overpriced. Service was OK.
We had a lovely lunch at the Orsay. The food was simply wonderful and the service was great. The restaurant was very classic and elegant. In my opinion the menu could have had more English subtitles for those not fluent in French but then again that added to the experience. Loved the place.
An upper Eastside staple for fine brasserie fare
Service is quite unfriendly. Not sure if they're trying to achieve a snobby ambiance, but they certainly do. Good was great. Croque monsieur and steak tartare delicious. Also creme brulee and chocolate mousse, out of this world. Expensive. Our lunch cost $90. I would come back here for the food, just pay no mind to the waitress. Also the patio provides fun people watching spot.
The service was really good guys were professionals and polite.
A veritable French treat on the upper East side. Décor, food, ambiance and service.
Amazing cold poached salmon with endive salad, so tasty and light and refreshing and satisfying. Delicious grilled ribeye was so tender we could cut it with a butter knife.... For dessert we had chocolate mousse and profiteroles, delicious and very reminiscent of dining in Paris. Excellent service all around, thank you for a wonderful meal
Great food
Absolutely loved this place! From the delicious French onion soup to the table-side chocolate mousse and everything in between, I can’t wait to go back and highly recommend to everyone! Location is great for UES locals and visitors alike. Drinks menu is large, and though the dinner menu is small, there are choices for everyone that are all delicious. Cheeseboard was a little underwhelming, so stick with the soup as a starter only. Go soon and go again! Reservation highly recommended!
It was great. Will revisit.
I loved this place best restaurant
Delicious French food in a traditional bistro setting. Having lived in Paris I can say that everything about the restaurant felt authentic, from the art nouveau style to the menu items. Restrooms are upstairs, located near a wonderful event space that looks like it would be perfect for intimate receptions.
Food is definitely overrated. Poor salad and appetizer options. We had Coq du Vin and it tasted like it had been in the pot a week. Came within 3 minutes of ordering. No time to enjoy just relaxing with a glass of wine. Skimpy on bread serving one slice at a time - having to ask and wait between slices. Crowded, loud, and cold in the front area. Couldn't have a decent conversation. Staff was impersonal and rushed. They kept clearing the table of items, like they were preparing to get the next shift seated. Decided to find coffee and dessert elsewhere. Definitely overpriced. Wine selection was good.
Wonderful restaurant with great service. Happily celebrated my birthday there. The $45 champagne and "make your own Mimosa" was a great idea/offer.
The restaurant takes you right into the heart of Paris. Lovely decor, delicious food and wonderful service.
Very nice if looking for an upper East side atmosphere. Great food
This restaurant is certainly overrated on OpenTable and Google, and has more realistic reviews on Yelp! The food was below ordinary and very disappointing. We were there for brunch. Nothing was fresh, you could find better muffins and croissants in a cheap grocery store. The french omelette on their menu was nothing but egg with some chives and lacked other ingredients on the menu. It was very pricy for the subordinary food they serve there. Will never go back since we did not have a pleasant brunch experience.
have a gluten, dairy and soy allergy. I called this restaurant several weeks before I went to ask them if this was a place I might get a decent meal. They said of course and I would have many options. They took down the allergies and put them on my reservation. The hostess had it written down when we arrived but she said just tell your server. I was staying in Midtown but I took a cab up there to the upper West side in big traffic just to go there. Well everything on their menu was pre made and all most had something I was allergic to in them. The only thing they could offer me was plain fish or chicken (no sauce and no starch). Yes on the spinach. I ordered the chicken and it was worse than a whole foods chicken that had been in the roaster all day. Our waiter talked to the manager but the manager (very nicely dressed) did not come to talk to me. After the meal I told the manager that I felt I had been mislead and he basically walked away with the french I don't care additude. I was with 3 others and their meal was just okay. I think they blocked any reviews from me on Open Table. One of my guests suggested they put some oil in a pan and fry up a potato for me but this could not be done. I guess there was no chef that could do that there.
Orsay is a super but entirely unpretentious Upper East Side restaurant. The food is excellent but traditional and the staff polite and courteous.
We had a private party on the second floorand it turned out beautiful! The food was wonderful. The service was excellent. The staff was very accommodating. All of our guests were so pleased!
Hanger steak was so tough that I burned more calories trying to cut it than I gained from eating it. Espresso was so bitter I felt like I just ate a bar of soap. Not impressed.
Solid New York eatery with a French flair
Service is getting worse by the week. Food is ok, nothing more. Needs to seriously rethink their game.
Average food, great ambience.
Not scene’y for a nice French bistro. Delicious food (duck) and appetizers.
Charming ambience, especially outside. They have captured an authentic Parisian vibe. The menu is standard bistro fare and the kitchen is generally competent. We go often. I would have given another star but last night they made a big mistake. My duck leg confit was served in a mustard sauce. That's never done and did not say so in the menu description . They did have saddle of rabbit with mustard sauce as a special last night. I think someone in the kitchen made a mistake. Big mistake. No sauce moutard on duck! Ever!
A lovely restaurant on Lexington Ave that is nice and cozy. The staff are friendly and attentive and the atmosphere is a bit of a buzz. I had a lovely salmon dish and a very tasty cocktail from the happy hour menu. I look forward to going back again soon.
The food was amazing, the staff was superb and the interior is magnificent.
The food needs to improve and the canola oil has to go, it's a pricey establishment Do not mind paying but the oil used dies not match the place
Although a limited menu for the holiday, the food and service were fantastic.
After we were seated and asked what kind of water we wanted the waitress disappeared. She never asked us if we wanted a drink. The manager had to take our dinner order instead of her. 5 minutes later they bring my husband's soup and not my shrimp cocktails. We were trying to get anybody's attention but nobody was watching. We were getting really upset, I had no food, his soup was getting cold when finally the waitress reappeared with an attitude and that's when we just had enough and walked out of the restaurant. We would never go back there.
I took a moment to see the reviews and some people where complaining on the reservation not being found and the service being in sufficient. It must have passed some time between these incidents and me visit because not only I got a phone confirmation for the reservation but the service was comparable to any great international restaurant I have ever been. I failed to see any "judgement" from the people working there, apart from exceptional professionalism that is rarely found in US restaurants - that was probably mistaken as snobby behavior. My recommendation is to certainly give it a try!
Overpriced for just OK food and service. Nice room.
Somehow Orsay is irresistible, even if the food's not the best in the area. With each visit you are transported to a bygone France, where the service is impeccable and the food comforting. The children's menu is the best we know, with real food as opposed to mac n cheese or chicken nuggets. The menu changes gently with daily specials and old favourites in the mix. Desserts are the highlight.
Just had wine and dessert but it was all very good. Great service, very friendly, classic ambiance, super wine selection, wide variety of French desserts.
Food great. Wine list awesome. Service horrible!!! At least at 245pm when they close for lunch at 3. Waiters all trying to close out tickets And paying zero attention to tables. Bus boy (man) was more attentive and helpful so just tipped him cash. Suggestion is to come way before 3.
The food is great and the service even better. I strongly recommend this restaurant
Excellent place!
Delicious food, impeccable and unobtrusive service. Pricey - maybe not for lunch every day - but definitely a place for a special occasion.
