This Restaurant is classified in the category of French restaurant.
Great place in the city. Love the wine selection. The food is very good although I was never floored by anything. Tapas place for 2 or 3 is pretty good.whole fish was very nice.
I lived in France and this is the food people talk about. My fois gras was perfectly seared with the creative surprise of peach cobbler beneath, which was impeccable and took lunch to a new level. I had the prix fixe for Friday, and the trout was also amazing. Crisp and light with vegetables full of flavor and just crisp. Great bread and wine. I can't recommend this highly enough if you like excellent French food. Will definitely be back when I'm in NYC. It was like being back in France.
Good food. Slower service
Delightful. A real find in the neighborhood. Interesting French beer. Good wine selection. Oysters $1 a piece. Steak tartar (with raw quail egg) was perfect.
Just had drinks but the staff was very nice and gave good service
Nice place with quality food and great atmostphere
I have never publicly reviewed a restaurant. This place was easily worth it. One of the best meals I've had in a long time.
French bistrot in hell's kitchen, perfect for a glass of wine and a cheese platter
Delicious great Wines & tapas
Great affordable food
The wine selection is vast and the whites I tried were great, however, I was disappointed with their food.
Great happy hour and staff, my salmon was unfortunately raw...
The chef’s exquisite taste for presentation was outstanding! I visited for my wedding anniversary and I had such a delightful experience with the details of each plate, food tasted delicious. It was my very first time having French dishes, but overall pleased with the food. Drinks accompanied our evening which made it just perfect. Train station is also close by which made it convenient as we were on vacations and trying to visit as many food places down our list. This was definitely one of the best places we dined at!
This will be our spot before/after NY Ranger games, we had a perfect Valentine's day. The staff was so sweet and prompt, they all knew their stuff when it came to food and wine pairings. Food was amazing!! I ate dishes that I normally don't eat, like carrots, tuna, and steak; The chefs prepared everything so accurately & flavorful. The place is beautiful too, very nice, romantic, chill vibe.
What a great find in the waste land that is the Penn Station neighborhood . Extensive selection of wines by the glass, served with knowledge and charm. Only complaint was very slow delivery of the check, otherwise excellent experience. I should mention the food was really perfect as well, I'll be happy to return
Abundant and very tasty charcuterie plates. Delicious fondant chocolat (& I'm fussy about fondant).
Great place in manhattan to spend a night with amazing and innovative French food. I appreciated the peculiar clients care of the staff, it makes the atmosphere even warmer. May be expensive.
Best restaurant in NYC !
It's more than a wine bar. It's a full bar, a restaurant, a retail shop shop, and loft for private events. The bar features a few beer taps, house cocktails, a long list of quality French wines, and happy hour specials. The retail shop features French country goods, like jams, olives, oils, vinegars, juices, sweets, cheeses and more. Rent the loft for private events. It's a comfy place that includes darts, pool and lounge chairs. The food is excellent. The menu offers something for everyone: seafood, steak, salads, desserts - all with a French flair. I recommend this place wholeheartedly.
Recommendations, hospitality, cocktail inventiveness and flavor, and above all every dish exceeding expectations net this surprisingly spacious French-Moroccan delight my enthusiastic return business. Try the lamb couscous and macarons for dessert.
Great happy hour food and drink specials. Friendly staff and fun decor.
I just love this place, food is delicious.
The happy hour charcuterie was a helluva deal.
Great yummy food. Happy hour 3-7pm so worth a visit! Friendly staff :)
Such a good place.
Very good food .... every body have to try this resto tks for all
Great food, generous portions, very good service. Will definitely return.
Not bad, but I'm not sure if I would come back here again
Nice ambiance, great drinks.
Fabulous food
Worth every penny! Scrumptious food, kind & punctual staff, clean, and just an all around chill environment, always good music playing here with a lot of art to see! It has become my favourite spot for before New York Rangers games @ MSG. Thank you O'Cabanon, see you in a few! Cant wait, let's go Rangers!!
Great service, wine and food. Will go back a lot
Food and atmosphere was great. Had French Onion soup and an appetizer dish I can't pronounce with scallops, mushrooms and potatoes. Delicious!
The best french food in New York city, authentic, high quality, healing body and soul and I am french
Outstanding place to eat. They are pulsd.
Terrific food and diverse menu! I loved the vibe and the service. As a single, female traveler, I appreciated being taken care of here. The staff was very attentive and welcoming. I would recommend coming for a creative meal and easy environment.
This place is simple and lovely. Staff was on consistent and kind. It's' a wonderful French experience with a neighborhood feeling. The food reminds me of my trips to Paris eating at the neighborhood classy cafes yet feeling like you truly belong. My mouth is dancing with the flavors of Escargot, scallops, spinach, potatoes .... sooooo delicious... Totally coming back and bringing friends!
One of my Favorite restaurants in NYC, great staff, food and atmosphere.
Had the New York strip with fries and fillet minion special. Both where cooked perfectly to order. The sides where also delicious. Great experience over all.
Pretty good affordable French restaurant. The quantity is of satisfying size. Service is wonderful and attentative. Ordered the risotto with mushroom and truffle oil, red snapper on ratatouille and cheese and charcuterie platters for 2.
Ordered delivery. The food was put in a container way too large for what I had ordered so it was ice cold when I got it. I ordered a dessert (macarons) which was good, but seriously you can't make those taste bad.. however they included sliced strawberries with the macarons, and the strawberries were moldy. They could've just left them out. It was expensive and a waste of money.
Awsome place!!
It was OK. No steak fries, but the onion soup was decent. They got our order wrong and offered us free desert, even though we didn't want it. Overpriced for the quality of food. We won't be returning.
I had the possibly best spaghetti carbonara in my life. Let's just say that I have sampled a few...
Absolutely delicious food and great service at the bar. If your on a low carb/keto diet there are several food options including a cheese platter, meatballs and other items, keep in mind they all come with bread so ask not to have so your not tempted. Great place although bit pricey if you dont stick to the happy hour menu but worth it if you dont.
Very tasty food! And it's a very cosy atmosphere.
Delicious food and drinks. Very pricey. Bon appetit!
Main courses were great, rustic decor, a little loud.
Really nice place and great food. Had a temp person business dinner. We were able to talk and enjoy the food
good for drinks and conversation
Excellent food, wines and service. Can be a bit noisy on Friday evenings but still a great experience and atmosphere. Tartiflette is to die for...
Great meal and great prices! Definitely go!
Food was delicious! Atmosphere was lively. Enjoyed it.
Great food and very courteous service. Was very happy to find this as there's nothing else decent near Penn Station. Reasonable price as well.
Interesting options, very good service and great wine options
Wonderful food and ambiance! Je reviendrai -- I will be back.
It was nice, I like the food and it was a big place.
Earlier in 2018, I was hired to DJ a corporate party at OCabanon and the venue loved it so much, they wanted me back to DJ their New Year's Eve party. From loading in my equipment to the versatility of their venue, I was blown away by my experience. The management and staff were all friendly, hospitable, and accommodating. The food was out of this world and the drink menu was extensive, with many options for everyone. Their customers seemed to all be treated like family and with more than enough servers to go around, they were prepared for anything. On both nights, both staff and guests ended up dancing and fun times were had by all. If you are planning an event, looking for a romantic date night, or just a fun time, I highly recommend OCabanon - you won't regret it!
Great place to get French/European meal, nice variety on the menu and everything we had was very good.
I considered myself a burger enthusiast, but my taste buds were seduce by the flavor of their burgers. I didn't know that sexy food could be so satisfying till I visit this place. And the drinks are smooth ,great tasting and affordable. Don't miss out give it a try.
Beautiful rustic restaurant with great hearty food. We ordered the Brie à la Truffe Noire to share and absolutely loved it. It was quite filling and the waitress was kind enough to not fire the entrees until we asked her to. Overall great service and delicious food.
Great food!
Excelent food and service. Serving portions are just right
Good place. Good burger. Service could have been better
It's just fine, but prices and quality does not match
O’Cabanon is exactly what a French bistro should always be: friendly, authentic ans tasty.
A group of friends ate there on Friday. Cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. But the food was below par. One from our party found a whole napkin in his risotto! What!? How is that even possible!? Will not be dining here again.
Wonderful food and the staff was lovely!
Grabbed tapas and a glass of wine on a Monday night and it was delicious. The wine cost more than the food but it was a fabulous quick stop.
The raw meat tartare was very good
Nice service, nice environment, delicious food. A real find. Enjoy.
Food was delicious and the service was amazing
Great food and reasonably priced wine
The food was awesome I can't describe it highly recommended
Food was ok. Service was ok. Portions were ok. Just average/ok in a sea of NYC restaurants.
Absolutely delicious Risotto & and friendly service.
Friendly staff and yummy food!
Excellent food and service. Arrived with party of 6 at 730p and they took us right in without raising an eyebrow.
Great wine service food. Excellent prices for NYC. Cozy friendly atmosphere. Great for relaxing gathering with friends of couples
If someone had told me a super cute French restaurant was tucked over here (in an area where I can never find anything tasty), I would have said they were lying. I loved this space. The entry makes it look small, but don't be fooled! There's a whole other room off to the side on the left once you go in. The menu goes on and on and on - so many great offerings, including their plate of the day, which comes served with a glass of wine. I had their salmon, which was simple, light, and flavorful. Definitely recommend this spot.
Came for drinks, we had to search for a hostess to help us. The restaurant had many open tables but we were told they were booked for the next 3 hours? After a bit of back and forth they sat us at one of the open tables and after 15 minutes of waiting for service, no one showed up so we left
Good food, service was a bit slow
Excelent service. Great food!
The menu's a bit limited once you get past the meat and cheese plates, and a bit eclectic, but the quality is high. Beet salad was delicious, as was the mushroom risotto. The venue is nice but quite loud, and service can be slow, so plan accordingly.
Excellent service by the bar staff and owner on a busy night at happy hour! Also didn’t get too loud at the bar. Happy the owner was so engaged with the customers! Would recommend the cheese plate and home fries! The meatballs looked good at other tables as well:) Great for a quick drink after work and looking forward to trying dinner next time!
Host was pleasant, however server didn't know the menu, and unable to have a good reccomendation or knowledge of the items in the food. Didn't even have the entree and the server gave us the dessert menu. Roasted beet salad was defiantly not roasted, and cold, tuna tartar was not fresh and needed seasoning.
Great place.
Excellent wine, drinks and food. Friendly service!
Believe it or not, I'd give a better rating if the waitresses communicated better and explained how enormous the dishes were... We wildly over ordered everything because the portions were insanely huge.
Decent charcuterie but nothing special. For two, price was kind of high. Wine good and well priced.
Really good food. I tend to get the Roasted Chicken with the mashed pots and vegetables. It is so good. The French Onion Soup is delicious. A friend had the steak frites entree; that steak was humongous! The bread here is really good and fresh. Just the smaller things such the vegetables that come with entrees, are some my favorites. The carrots that come with the Roasted Chicken are really good. We've had the Risotto with Truffle numerous times; that's delicious. The Tapas Plate is always good with a great selection. The service is always good and prompt. We can count on a good experience with the staff at this restaurant. This is definitely one of my favorite French restaurants in town.
Good food, cozy and friendly atmosphere. Noise level can be high when crowded .
It is hard to find something decent near the Penn station so we were happy to find this place. Fast service and great lunch option, we enjoyed our meal and made it back to the station to catch the train on time. Definitely a go if you are looking for a good meal in the area. Service was very nice and fast. Place is very quiet inside so you can enjoy the conversation.
The true french experience
Came late after a ranger game looking for a place where I can sit down at a bar and have an espresso/cappuccino. It was around 11pm and I was informed the kitchen was open until 1130 and that I was more than invited for my cappuccino at the bar. Literally one of the only places where I can have this experience in Manhattan at this time of night. Also a very welcoming staff. Definitely a gem of a place.
Absolutely fabulous escargot and the saumon fume was great. Nice casual atmosphere and friendly staff. I highly recommend this restaurant for a business lunch.
Fine food and service
I've been here twice and I look forward to going again. I've tried the mussels and the burger. Both amazing! Great selection on wine!
Great place to drink and eat while enjoying a nice conversation.
Wonderful French food
Tasty food, plentiful portions, accomadating staff, good place to unwind.
Hidden gem in a crummy neighborhood.
Great food, great service, great wine. An engaging staff that not only know about wine but care about your experience with it. Excellent food options that might seem a bit pricey but are worth the experience. Lamb shank done right! Un nouveau restaurant préféré!
I was searching for a restaurant with really good food for a group dinner. It's very challenging to find a place in NY where you can bring a large group and sit in a private room. Generally there's a minimum food/beverage requirement. I found OCabanon through Opentable and also checked it out in person. We had a wonderful time here. Because guests were arriving at different times and had different dietary needs, we needed to do separate checks. The restaurant was told this at the time of the reservation and had no problem with it. We sat in the back room which is lined with cases of wine bottles. Diana, our waitress was very patient with us. She kept track of our large group with coat checks at each place (clever!). The food was delicious and everyone was very pleased with their meals. Highly recommended and we'll definitely be back!
Great French food and service
Great meal. Hidden gem. Country french cooking. Crispy skin chicken and medley of veggies. Salmon perfect. Try a Kronenberg beer. Will return.
Open late and friendly staff.
Tapas and wine delicious, staff were terrific...
Delicious!!! Relaxed environment, great drinks, the food was phenomenal. The only reason for less that a perfect 5 was that I waited in the front of the restaurant for 20 minutes before I had to ask someone to be seated for my reservation.
Really enjoyed dinner here. Creative menu with a French disposition, very good service, and a chilled out, comfortable vibe.. excellent flavors and a good selection of wines..
Great French food, relaxing, neighborhood vibe.
This was my first time and it's a neighborhood gem. Good French food, affordable and a pleasant setting.
Very cool.
This place has good service and good deals for happy hour. However, the food is very average. Very friendly, but everything else was just not at the level I was hoping for. The risotto was odd with a bunch vegetables and the escargots were nothing close to others I've had in Manhattan.
I just had a most delicious meal and enjoyable experience at Cabanon. I had the Risotto and highly recommend that dish.
Good food, always really slow service.
Stumbled across this restaurant on a business trip, incredible food and wonderful owners!
Good attentive service. Food portions only look small but are quite filling. Would definitely come back to try a different seasons menu.
Small french bistro with good wine and gracious service. The burger is worth coming back for.
Wonderful food and expert service! Merci beaucoup, OCabanon!
Nice selection of products from l'hexigon
Amazing food. Great service
Just perfect!
Good but expensive
Fun charcuterie/deli/bar/dining boutique in midtown. Tasty food, awesome service. You must try it.
Food was delicious. It was cozy but clearly trendy. The wine list was extensive and they let me try to wine prior to pouring the entire glass which I always appreciate. I got the salmon, which despite the description I did not realize was smoked for some reason. Although I typically dont like smoked fish I really enjoyed it. My friends really enjoyed their dishes as well. The pear crumble was also really nice, it is served with cream cheese which pairs surprisingly well. The service was impeccable and I really enjoyed my time. The only warning I have is that I do wish this place was a little less expensive for the portions, we were honestly surprised that it was rated a 2 dollar sign, but it is in a busy area with few options. I recommend this as an option for a small group get together.
Great service, good food, our group has a blast
There is a wide space inside the store, and it has a calm atmosphere. Rich variety of alcohol. Since there is a volume of appetizers, you can have a satisfying meal with a few kinds.
French spirit in NYC
If you want to enjoy a real french meal in the center of NYC for a reasonable price, this is the place
One of the greatest French restaurant in New York, ask for the escargot, and they got a very good collection of wine
Friends of iur just had their 20th wedding anniversary party there... excellent location, VERY good wine selection, excellent food. For the party, they have a great room upstairs... and for just dinner iut, very nice atmosphere downstairs.
Great authentic french food at very reasonable prices. Loved it!
Great French Spot. The Daily Lunch Specials are very affordable and service is top notch.
I absolutely like the dishes and service, awesome location right next to my residence. The cashiers are always very nice. Will come back again.
Great staff, authentic French feel and great service!
Tasty dishes. Service was a bit slow tho.
Great place for a quiet glass of wine!
Great French cuisine
Great food and great ambiance. Can't wait to go back here next year!
Decent French food. Really good cocktails. Nice atmosphere and great service. We go here for a dinner every once in a while and never regretted it.
The food was very well prepared, the waiters were outstanding and the general atmosphere was interesting.Expensive in absolute but not for Manhattan.
I am quite sure I have NEVER given a restaurant a perfect score. But OCabanon is not just a restaurant, it is a respite for the daily churn of the city served with the 'down-home' hospitality of a small village near Lyons where our waiter Cydric and patron Michael hail from. From the first greeting through a delicious (Salade Nicoise & Rare Salmon) stress-free lunch, my associate and I were wholly enamoured by the entire experience. The decor, given some of the materials used, could impose a cold environment. Instead it is warm and welcoming and most importantly audio balanced. I am assured it is a different scene at night when The Garden finishes and the fans descend. Good for them! In the interests of full disclosure, I should mention that I am in the restaurant/hospitality business with interests in the US, Caribbean and Europe. A delightful surprise!
Very fresh delicious food. Great prices and fast service. Must try!!!
Good food and service..Frenchy!!!!!
I had been there a couple of years ago and loved it. A small group (6) met for dinner and it wasn't good. Three of us ordered onion soup that had to be sent back to heat up. Three ordered fish (cod). Not the same three. The plate was very hot, but again the fish wasn't. Waiter seemed overwhelmed. They offered us dessert on the house. We shared two, which we would not have ordered, all things considered...and they tried to charge us. Maybe just an off night, maybe not.
Great service .
Nice bar and restaurant with great happy hour food and drinks
We enjoyed a very early dinner (4:30 pm) with 5 business colleagues. We were seated in the back room, which was very pleasant, until the regular dinner crowds came. We sat after we we done eating, she continued talking for a while. We were never pressured to "give up the table." The servers were polite and, for the most part, attentive. But after about 6 PM the noise levels grew to mind boggling levels. I've eaten here before and really enjoy the food. It's creative, cooked perfectly, and tasty, with options for all kinds of eaters, even though the menu is not huge. But if you want to have real conversation, I recommend you go early.
Love this place and the tartare de thon is delicious!
Great food, great service, great people. I am an out of towner and will definitely be heading back next time in town
We met some family from out of town there for a casual dinner and drinks. The food and wine was excellent with service to match. The meat and cheese plates are well thought out and plentiful as appetizers or meals. The onion soup is definitely worth a try. With a good amount of wine expect about 100 bucks a head, all in. I recommend giving them a try.
Great food and wine.
Steak burger and tuna tartare were great. Foie gras is good but it's a bit too fat and thick.
Very tasty and excellent service. Love the wine selection
I host a Wine Club in NYC and came here with a group of 15. Obviously we called ahead, and checked in a few days out to make sure our reservation was confirmed. The staff was aware of our reservation each time we called, and were exceedingly helpful, even before we got there. Upon arrival, our table was set and ready, and the manager came over to help us and ask if we needed anything. It seemed as though the whole waitstaff was around regularly (but not intrusively) to make sure we were taken care of - what a great experience. We did 8 or 9 bottles of wine and cheese boards, and the experience was excellent. Complimentary bread was dropped off and refilled, and we didn't feel pressured to leave at any point. A great place for groups, even if the outside doesn't look like it!
Very good food and service.
