This Restaurant is classified in the category of French restaurant.
Always have a good meal there. Love the cookies too
Fresh squeezed OJ was delicious.
I buy buckwheat baguette and loaf bread, as well as sunflower seed and the whole wheat bread few times a week. All of these are arguably the best bread in the town. Interestingly, they've managed to have the same great quality bread across few locations in Midtown I've visited.
Always super friendly
Not many vegan options
Tasty, quality food.
Nicole is one of the most pleasant, friendly, and helpful people you can encounter at an early hour in New York City. Even on those rather rough mornings, her warmth and recommendations can brighten up anyone's day. I hope corporate reads these reviews because she is someone in particular who deserves recognition for her outstanding customer service!
Delicious
I was in town and walked by with a friend who insisted we get some macaroons. I was not disappointed
Limited seating for the store section and only stools to sit in. Rudely was told I could not sit in the very empty restaurant area even though I made a food purchase. No signage that states you can sit at the tables.. instead I had been approached with "what are you doing?" And told to go elsewhere. Update For Owner Response: Again completely unacceptable and I'm lowering my rating due to that response.. your response shows your take on what I experienced. I don't need another explanation of why the restaurant area is meant for and be told by 'you' the owner. If I was politely approached I would completely understand. It was accessible with no signs or a 'please wait here to be seated' and the area was fairly empty.. and I was spoken to rudely. Fix your signage and ways for your staff to approach customers.
Very good bread , the best in NYC
Excellent French-style pastries and perfect coffee and hot chocolate. Bright and cheerful
Amazing
The baguettes definitely live up to the hype, and for $3.50 per baguette, you really can't go wrong!
This location is one of my favorites of the Maison Kayser chain. One of the few locations that provides seating if you are taking a quick snack or coffee to go. The staff here is very helpful and friendly. Last time I was here, I wanted to order a soup (it has been a cold spring in NYC). Of the three specials, the only one left was carrot. Having about a dozen spice allergies, I asked the cashier to check the ingredients. He was wonderful! He called the kitchen and then got the list of ingredients. Nothing I was allergic to. The soup itself was amazing, one of the best puree soups I ever tried.
Delicious
Always delicious desserts and amazing bakery products.
Incredible services
Amazing, food is brilliant.
Great food very fast service love it
Seems to be pretty short staffed regularly. The wait can be quite long.
Good breakfast in NY
The food and service is great! We ate here twice.
Super tasty, the most pleasant customer service ever, and super clean spot. It felt like I walked into Paris for a little while, almost like I expected to hear people talking in French.
Delicious French onion soup. Highly recommend. The staff were polite and attentive.
Amazing bread
Love it.
Everything I have here is delicious!
Outstanding foods and staff
Reql paris bread. Amazing.
Excellent breakfast. Beautiful bakery / restaurant. Would visit again and highly recommend
Best coffee in New York
Love it and the bread so fresh ... Caramel eclair amazing..
I love it
Really good, comfortable place to sit & eat or do take out. Dining is priced fairly. Great pastry to talk along also.
Horrible service. Staff is so disorganized I live in the building and every time I've come here it's been a terribly displeasing experience. Maybe they can spend some time on training and paying attention ?
I love to meet with friends here. Great refreshments a d variety of pasteries
Good fresh flavors.
Love it! Everything is so good !
Very delicious pastries
Counters are dirty, staff is not very helpful.
Amazing food and service. Love the bread and the salmon salad.
Service at the counter was nice and extremely accommodating. Nothing but compliments from the meeting I catered.
My favorite is almond croissant but all choices are really good. And plenty space to Sit down.
The ham and cheese croissant was excellent. I also picked up some croissants to bring home as gifts. Everyone really enjoyed them. Not as good as the place in Paris but close enough.
I love cookies....the oatmeal cookie was...no joke....a rock. Way too hard. If you have to struggle even a little to break a cookie in half...it's no bueno.
It was an AMAZING experience, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and the cakes, breads and specially the apple tart OMG was super DELICIOUS.
They invested not only into buying an espresso machine, but also into hiring baristas. As a result - good coffee. A rare thing for the US. Google should have implemented a feature, allowing to point if a place has an espresso machine. Would be less pain for finding a nice afternoon shot.
I did get their quiche Lorraine and I should say it was great , very yummy
Poor training. They gave me a double espresso to stay in a 12oz paper cup when the mugs were sitting right on top of the espresso machine...
Experienced very poor service here this evening. The barista seemed completely disinterested to serve and seemed very confused or tired . I asked for the manager but s/he didn’t seem to be around or possibly wasn’t keen to meet. The lady behind the counter offered a refund in lieu of the poor service which we declined. A sincere apology instead of a refund would surely have been better appreciated this side of the pond. No apology was offered. @ Louis-Jean Egasse - Are you still a French bakery at all ! Think if you keep offering refunds for poor service then this place on 5th Avenue will likely put you on the path to bankruptcy!!
Like
I think is a good addition to the neighborhood. I try to stay away because I am trying to loose weight. But If you want to indulge once in a while why not?
Can't beat French patisserie
The bread is yummy and the juice is sour.
Same menu as other locations, but smaller cafe area
Amazing cafe. I felt like I was transported to Paris. Don't forget the complimentary baguette with your meal. The Avocat toast was perfect for my vegan diet!
Excelent France bakery
Great place to have a healthy food.
The finest!
Sinfully delicious.
Efficient service, nice prices, great food
Lovely place! Excellent variety!
Very helpful staff. Kind of a long wait but worth it.
I love this place. A must go.
Best cappuccino in NYC!
Service was ok. Chai latte was milk mainly. Wanted a pastry but got a croissant. No smiles from the cashier but the barista was nice. Not good enough for me to go back.
So so cuppicino. They serve a latte in place of cuppicino and then tell you it's a cuppicino.
Amazing, best pastry I've ever had
Excellent pastries, bread, coffee.
Love it
This New York chain bakery is my favorite place to stop when I'm in New York City! I specifically took a detour this week so that I could get a chocolate almond awesome and a hot chocolate Even though it is summer!I've been all around the world but always will crave Maison Kaysers pastries!
Great pastry and coffee limited lunch menu
Minus 1 star for inefficient customer management at peak hours. Visited again twice last week & again today. No difference. Its best for office-goers to AVOID this place in the morning tourist rush. No queues whatsoever while placing orders. Chaos around the barista. While I do love myself a good coffee from Maison, I would rather go when the place is quiet & the barista can brew me a perfect cuppa.
They microwaved my cheese spinach croissant, tasted old and butchered. Very disappointed
Bought a tart which looked amazing but the apricot fruit on it was spoilt. We could not eat it. Threw the entire tart unfortunately. Not sure if it was our bad luck, I visited the place since I saw amazing reviews and ratings
Very nice location with a great food offering. The interior is beautiful and the employees are very nice. There is a lot of sitting room and a good variety of diverse breakfast and lunch options. It is very clean and the lighting is perfect. I believe they just need more experience at this location and they will be faster and more efficient. Great place though and I hope they keep up the maintenance and cleanliness.
It's feels like fast casual for pastry. The desserts are pretty good, but lack pizazz.
not bad
Everytime I come to New York I make it a point to eat at Maison Kaiser. Wonderful, fresh, lovely food.
Excellent coffee and good costumer service
The best Baguettes after a race weekend!
totally enjoy my pastries and coffee here. the staff here are very friendly and helpful.
Amazing food. I know them from Paris. Expensive but really good.
Great delicious food; excellent service. It’s a welcome rest stop from the bustle of New York City.
Delicious cake
My new favorite over starbucks. Really good quality stuff
Good place for breakfast / brunch.
So many choices!
Excellent fresh French fare. Friendly staff! Great coffee. Very clean.. Sit down table service or order at the counter.
Excellent bread and great breakfast options.
We have eaten here three times in the same week whilst visiting NY and every time was lovely. The sweet sausage and egg was delicious and so too was the French toast. The coffees were great as well. Will definitely be back if we are in town next.
Good drip coffee, amazing pastries. Would return!
Subpar service and bakery. Due to poor coordination between service staff members, I waited but did not receive my coffee until I asked. No apologies from the service staff. Eat-in order was served with paper cup and paper bag. Neither a plate nor a tray was provided as they did in Paris. The plain croissant was very dry and lacked both crusty texture and buttery aroma. Compared to the Maison Kayser in Paris, it's much more expensive but with significantly lower quality for both service and food. What a big disappointment from a well-known French pastry chain!
Really great pastries and really great coffee. Care and attention to detail is present in all the food. The staff can be hit or miss. Sometimes you get really sweet and helpful people. Sometimes they are a bit rougher around the edges. Overall, I love the place and will continue to be a regular patron for a quick bite and a quality cup of coffee.
taste is good. service i was shocked about...i asked to eat it all in the shop....and still everything packed in plastic..paper...plastic firk and knife...paper cups....and still pay 20 dollars for a 2 coffee and 2 cakes. but hee. the quality was good! only 3 stars....by walking out...again shocked by the dis-interested attitude from the staff.. so decided to take it back to two stars....sorry....
Great place for a quick bite. Good tasting pastries
The breads are good but the whole set up is a bit chaotic.
Very good for a chain. I was surprised by how tasty the food is.
Very nice breakfast, coffee is realy good. We went there twice and enjoyed it very much!
To my opinion, the best baguette in NYC. Butter Croissant is unsweetened and well made. Sandwiches are good as well, and are "american" size, meaning large portions. Coffee is so so. My only complaint is the constant chaos in line for the registers. for some reason they were able to figure out how to make fantastic food but were not able how to arrange a simple bank style line.
Good location and fast service.
Nice atmosphere, great delicious tasty
Great breakfast and fantastic service.
Great coffee!
Nice place to have breakfast!
In love with their pastries!
Nice! Nothing fancy, but nice
Delicious desserts...
Perfect
Great treats just over price.
Good service, nice place for a quick meeting
Veryvery unkind. Nobody explain where shouldI payment andaccept. So i get a coffee for 25min. Shop is busy but staffs are veryvery unkind!
Awesome place.
Some of the best pastry I have ever eaten
Wonderful service and food!
Decent breakfasts all round at Maison Kayser. Service fast and friendly. Went on a weekday on Fifth Avenue, before work expecting it to be busy but they squeezed me in. Pastry was fresh and the coffee was decent--something you can't always get from a chain.
The product is good, very good baguettes and the chocolate croissant is great but it is way overpriced, and worst of all, the service. It took them 10mins to do a soy latte. 2 or 3 peopke making coffee and they don’t even know what they are doing, talking to each other and not paying attention at all. Not coming back!
Love the fresh bakery items perfect pots of tea and kind staff at this place!
(Translated by Google) A bakery like the French! Excellent breakfast with a very nice variety of breads, pastries and more, the American breakfast with French toasts and all kinds of eggs. Friendly staff. (Original) Une boulangerie comme à la française ! Excellent petit-déjeuner avec une très belle variété de pains, viennoiseries avec en plus, le petit-déjeuner à l'américaine avec French toasts et toutes sortes d'oeufs. Personnel sympathique.
Good place for a quick bite.
Pick your own breakfast, everything was perfect and speedy!
Reall great staff and great food too
My favorite breakfast place. Good pastries and breakfast sandwiches.
Great spot, convenient and quick, but a little pricey (like all MKs)
Extremely professional staff. Assorted desert is a must. Espresso is so delicious that you would want to drink more and more. Complimentary water tastes great. Always fresh food, best place for lunch or brunch. Store is extremely clean and neat. Thanks for the good work.
2:30pm set up for expectations of greatness but they were out of most desserts. The Caramel Eclair was too rich and dense (ala Dunkin). Traditionally an eclair should be a lighter pastry. Tea was bagged with these prices loose tea was not much to ask for and the hot chocolate was lukewarm and tasted like Swiss Miss. The staff were inattentive but when present were quite pleasant and apologetic for lack of pastry.
Wonderful brunch time after time
On Monday 11/19 we sat at your 400 Madison Ave locatio around 5pm. We visited many of your locations throughout the city, so we are quite familiar with your menu. Upon seating down the waitress placed two menus on the table. We order a cappuccino, a regular coffee with skim milk and a smoked salmon sandwich with pumpernickel bread. The coffee was ice cold and burnt.NO sugar was brought to the table. Waitress was nowhere to be found so we asked the busboy to get us a fresh cup. After "parading" the coffee throughout the store to find a manager we got a fresh cup... now we are out of milk and still no sugar. The cappuccino was lukewarm! We understand that sometimes these things happen and its not a big deal, but a server needs to be present to rectify. This was not the case. The lady server had absolutely no disposition to help us, zero desire to be there. She dropped the check without asking if we wanted anything else. On our way out we casually mention what happened to the supervisor and she completely brush us off without even apologizing....
Outstanding Bread
Love! Definitely lives up to its motto of "finding a bit of Paris in New York" Highlight: they served galette des rois (king cakes) there leading up to Mardi Gras
Always is a good idea drinking a delicious beverage accompanied by a delicious bread. You can also eat salads and relax yourself from all the stress.
Good food, but expensive. Also tables aren't clean often enough
Visiting from Canada, Toronto. I was recommended to come here for a great brunch a few weeks ago. And might I say I was utterly blown away by the food from there and the staff. The Croissants are absolutely amazing! Especially the cheese and ham croissants. As soon as I walked in to be sat The Host Emily if I’m not mistaken greeted me so warmly and sat me down with comfort. Even while enjoying my meal she came to even check on me and offered to see if I needed anything else, I was impressed with her service! Thanks again Emily. I definitely recommend dining in this perfect establishment if you appreciate your French cultures food and a sense of bliss with the food staff and atmosphere! i will be coming back again! Merci beaucoup!
Great service
Perfect attention. Perfect coffee and perfect croissant.
Always go here for salads and sandwiches on the run during the week. Just check the dates on the bottom of prepacked items bc some can be a few days old and i prefer not to buy those. Always have lunch or brunch here on the weekends as well, I prefer the table service here opposed to the 40th st location, waitstaff is more attentive, maybe bc it’s a smaller location. Will also order cakes and tarts here during the holidays (just make sure to pre order) would highly recommend. Also if visiting from France it’s a great place to get a taste of home.
Amazing!
Had a terrible experience with extremely poor service this evening.. The employee was very rude and did not respond to any questions. Poor attitude and would never want to go back to that store or recommend it.
Reliable products offered..
Best place in the Big Apple Great service and great quality food...
Great location, great cappuccino. The personnel is very nice and kind.
The server was great. I ordered short ribs with mashed potatoes. They did not share they were out of mashed potstoes and brought me rice, which I hate and did not provide any other option. The short ribs were dry, stringy and chewy. Expected more from a 4.3 star french restaurant. Sauce was good.
Tried the brunch menu, enjoyed it
Great place
Always good latte!
good food, great service , best price
Love love love this place
Great breakfast menu!
lovely place great desserts and very reasonable.
waste of time. took 30 minutes to get one coffee out. not even anything special, just a latte. no explanation! place wasn't busy at all
Very poor galette des rois, pastry and stuffing no good at all
Delightful French style cakes! The prices start from around $5 per cake, which quite high; but worth every penny. You’ll find unique desserts and rich flavors. Coffee is good as well. They also have prepared salads, juices, sandwiches, fresh baked breads and cookies and croissants. ✅Restrooms
Very authentic French pastries!
A massive joke... I am French, know very well the products, the house. Too see such a poor service in Maison Kayser made me really angry... I bought a chocolate cake : inside the boulangerie it was not possible to eat that with a plate and spoon. It was just a take away box with a napkins. I felt I was in a fast food boulangerie where you pay 18 dollars for 2cakes and 2 teas... Really disappointed. I don't recommend this place.
My last three visits to three different locations suggest Maison Kayser is falling prey to profits over pastry. Today’s pain au raisin did not adequately rise, is over-baked and lacks the quality ingredients that lead to good taste.
Great baking choices, trendy interior. If you want to get some breakfast or snacks - this spot is perfect for that.
