To this day this business gets a score of 4.1 stars out of 5 and the score is based on 146 reviews.
As you can read, the average score it has is really high, and it's founded on a very high number of scores, so we may think that the rating is quite faithful. If there are many people who bothered to evaluate when they've done well, is that it works.
As you know, we do not usually bother to set opinions when they are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Restaurant is included in the category of French restaurant.
I’m not sure what’s better here-the food or the people watching
We just came for sweets during dinner time and sat outside. Luckily we had a chance to get chocolate cake for dinner. My friend ordered beet tartare at the end. It's very nice restaurant and it was very yummy.
The signature dish is definitely the muscles. I had the "mariniere moules" which come with french fries, though I would have appreciated some shellfish sauce to dip the fries in since the delicious sauce (you can have it as a soup!) that the muscles are in is not thick enough to coat the entire fry. After reading all these horrible reviews, I must say that my curiosity was not satisfied for the reason that I did not find the alleged "rude, racist blonde waitress," but I was definitely keen on meeting her. Also I must mention that the bathrooms are quite obsolete. Not what you would expect from a pricey restaurant. Overall, I would recommend this place. Just remember to poo at home :)
I was here to pick up an order. Staff all speaks french. Elegant but intimate atmosphere and great service.
Love the atmosphere. Always accommodating.
Super delicious!!
Delicious food. Not good service.
Took my slide off here
Great service
(Translated by Google) Ordered Caesar salad and the waiter wondered if we wanted chicken on the salad, it cost $ 10 extra. But had we not ordered chicken then there had been no food in it wholly. They put some lettuce leaves on a plate with a few chicken pieces and a solitary anchovy ... Someone took asparagus soup, it was thin ... No, this was bad stuff. Arrogant Waiters. Arrogante kelnere.
Great food and atmosphere. The moules are excellent.
Totally overpriced, the host is arrogant and the bill is not detailed, definitely not recommended.
Always love to dine at Le Charlot for brunch, lunch or dinner. The food is exceptionally good and the service is also very good. It's a lively energetic place and on a pretty day you can dine outside.
A great date spot on the Upper East Side that typically draws in a younger crowd. The food is very classic French bistro and consistently delicious. The outdoor seating is lovely during the spring.
Great Food
I rarely find myself on the upper east side, but a friend invited me for dinner at le carlot. This place is a fancy little French restaurant that looks like a neighborhood favorite. This restaurant has a very casual environment. The waiters are laidback and seemed to know many of the guests who were dining there. I had a pleasant experience with my fish entree. My friend was vegetarian and struggled to find something to eat on the menu. The dessert was uninspiring. I’m glad I got to experience this cute little place on the UES, but maybe you have to be a local to truly appreciate it.
餐點好吃,服務人員熱情有禮。good food good service。 Staff is very friendly.
My Mahi Mahi was delicious. Service was atrocious.
Cool vibes amazing atmosphere.
Nice. Feels more like San Tropez than NYC.
Authentic French Bistro (i.e., grumpy waiters), I love the steak tartare with shoestring fries. Good atmosphere.
Delightful French faire. With every penny!
Quirky decor. Excellent food. Very left bank
We arrived and from the beginning the host was rather rude. We asked for a table outside and the host said these tables were reserved (although they remained empty for a long period of time). He took us to a tiny table crammed against the wall, we ask for another table and he again snapped that they were not available. We ultimately stayed but the service was really not what one would expect from an upper east side establishment. They offered us a free desert, the ice cream had hair in it and when we complained they actually thought this was hilarious, when we left and refused to leave a tip they in fact complained about it. I would definitely not recommend it. Rather shocking!
Great bistro atmosphere and decor with interesting french menu. A pleasant local restaurant
love this place, favorite restaurant ever. I always take all 7 of my children here and they all love it too
The best restaurant in New York I've tried so far
I go here/get take out from here all the time. Food is great and everyone is super nice. Only downside is its small and sometimes loud.
Charming, authentic neighborhood French bistro. Intimate, with tables very close together. Menu is small, but food is good. They offer outdoor dining. No reservations, and can get crowded.
Extremely underwhelmed with the food. We ate outside but the inside was dimly lit and did not appear very clean. Not even going to mention the washroom. The kitchen is in the basement so I can only imagine what its like down there. The waitress was quite rude and had her long hair let down and blowing all over the place.
surprisingly good for a casual bistro, full of really beautiful people
Very disappointed in the service. We were not even greater when we walked in the door. Three different people waited on us and no one knew what was going on.
Love this place
Pushy staff .. make you order more
(Translated by Google) Never again. (Original) Jamais encore.
I have known this restaurant for several years. The “moules” stuck in my mind as consistently delicious. That is what was on my mind today when I reserved a table for a friend and for myself. Having read some very extreme reviews, he and I were slightly worried, especially when it came to how we should dress for the occasion! It turned out that there was no specific dress-code other than common sense. The moules were as delicious as ever: we ordered marinière and Thai. I can only find fault with the chocolate sauce that topped the profiteroles: the chocolate is not dark enough. We missed the tang of the high cocoa content. As for the employees, they were aloof but certainly not unfriendly. This not a cheap restaurant, but well worth the extra dollars in quality. I shall certainly go back!
Decent lunch spot, try the curry chicken
Very nice lunch. Food prepared by food lovers and was perfect in every respect Out standing beet & goat cheese salad. Veal outstanding!!!
First off, this place is very cold, cant take jacket off. The restaurant is EMPTY and tons of tables open, but they insist on cramming everyone together in the 2 person tables against the wall. Cesar salad, awful...dressing is mustard, not cesar. Foie gras, hard and cold, toast soft...better w baguette. Overall regret coming here. Worst is that we are all crammed in same spot when rest of place is open.
Chicken without taste.
Arrogance at its best! We asked for a table for four for lunch, as we had our two children with us. The blond host says, "You have to eat. You can't just have coffee and dessert." My husband knows how to handle these types, but I asked him to take it easy. By the time we had our lunch the blond was as sweet as pie probably because we met her $$$ quota.
Food was above average, large portions, high prices, char.ing atmosphere
We always dine at this charming French Bistro when we visit New York. Excellent Moille & Frites and always a rose by the glass. Love the patio in the summer.
Could be better, kind of overpriced for the quality of the food and service. Shame on the French fries.
(Translated by Google) Nice, small, french! Something (very) tight and actually always full -but it's worth it! Very nice service and consistently excellent food! (And the portions are not too small.) Also the wine can be seen! Always my pleasure! Reservation makes sense, otherwise come early. Immer wieder gerne! Reservierung macht Sinn, ansonsten zeitig kommen.
Mediocre food and way overpriced.
Here's an interesting story. I have been to this restaurant many times when I was younger. Yesterday after attending the Parkinson's walk in Central Park with my wife, youngest son, uncle, aunt and cousins we decided to stop in for a quick lunch. The woman who later introduced herself as the manager was beyond rude and insulting! It seemed to me that she had determined in her small mind that we are not sophisticated enough to dine there. We were wearing colorful t-shirts and sneakers and asked to be seated for lunch. At first she said they are not open. Then she said that we can be seated inside in 15 minutes. She refused to allow my aunt to use the bathroom although we were to be seated soon. Saying that she can walk around the corner! Being that it was a beautiful day we decided to wait outside. After a while she comes out and says she has a table for us inside. I suggested that we would like to sit outside on such a nice day. "No sir, you CANNOT sit outside because you have sneakers on". The guy sitting outside next to us(also has sneakers on) goes am I ok? "you are ok" she said to him. At this point I said let me get something straight there is a dress code outside but not inside? "I don't make the rules". At which point we decided we have been insulted enough and moved on. It is absolutely amazing to me that in this day and age an ignorant "manager" can be so prejudiced and judgmental! We ended up at another restaurant and had a lovely meal. End of story.
Absolutely a must if you want a delicious dinner and superb service. I had the Mussells Thai style and they were outstanding. Service was absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend.
Nice
Felt as if I visited France, if only for a very little while.
Great food ! Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon , escargot and French on in soup . Always beautiful woman to see
Great place and great food
Best
Quaint spot with amazing food!
If you like french food this is your ultimate place!! Easy to find parking. Best Filet Mignon ever! Must order vegetables and Gavroche beer. Overal great place to go and please your taste buds.
My absolute favorite French restaurant in NYC. Great staff, good food, warm atmosphere, I love it all.
To sum it all up: the food was mediocre and the service, not up to par for the price tag. The issue here was not paying for food but the terrible service just made it all the more an unpleasant experience. The blonde hostess made it abundantly clear that we were not welcome, did not greet us and specified at the door that 'the minimum purchase is 25 per person' before seating us. Like another person had mentioned, perhaps we were not dressed formally enough to be considered respectable guests here, but afterall it was an early afternoon lunch and this is no fancy restaurant by any means, despite being 'French cuisine'. I have worked many years in restaurants and am French myself, what I can tell you from my experience is - don't be fooled by the decor and pretty terrasse, there is nothing spectacular or 'fancy' about this place except that it exudes French arrogance and that you'll regret spending upwards of $100 for a meal you could get at a food court.
Very friendly service. Good food
Great place !!
Close by the Frick Museum, Le Charlot is a great breakfast spot to visit as you wait for the museum to open at 10am. I had a delicious ham and gruyere omelet with roasted potatoes and mint tea. There’s a choice to eat indoors or outside. The restaurant is on a beautifully maintained side street.
Unfavorable lunch menu. Strong service. Dining tables and space is very limited. Uber expensive
A local standard with the chic appeal of a Paris bistro. We passed it for years thinking it pretentious and were surprised to find it inviting and fun with excellent French fare. Prices are far from cheap, but not unreasonable for the neighborhood, steps from Madison Avenue.
Great atmosphere in both restaurants, impeccable service and delicious food the portions are also very generous. I have yet to try anything I did not like. Every time I am in New York I make sure to visit.
Delicious food, lovely service and atmosphere, the lobster salad was amazing!
Not going to lie. Did not enjoy the space , food nor service. So not recommend it at all despite its popularity.
With every French restaurant you expect a certain amount of arrogance. We recently ate at the South Hampton Location and the food was fabulous and the service was wonderful. We decided to try the NYC location of Le Charlot and we were very disappointed. They were extremely rude, arrogant and the service was awful. The place was empty and we could not get a second glass of water or bread. There is no wine listed by the glass so if you do order a glass not a bottle expect to pay north of $17.00 per glass. The food is good not as good as the South Hampton. The NEW South Hampton restaurant was a great find. We will definitely make this a weekend favorite this summer... Disappointed D
Food is ok. Service? terrible. If you want to know why please visit and try. Don’t forget to order tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella. Two pieces of tomato and mozzarella cost $17. This is about Southampton location. Thank you
Nice desserts. The food was great. I was there during lunch time. The place offers take out.
Noisy with decent food. I guess New York ambiance
Been there in 2012 December. Still can remember the experience and particularly the French onion Soup. It’s feels so like being in French, the place just transports you to France. If I am right, it’s a family run place.
Excellent Place, perfect staff, Good Souvenirs
The food was fantastic. I loved the lobster salad. Unfortunately, the service was mediocre. They also charge for refills on their very small sodas.
charming restaurant with a strong personality and funny owner, a precious find in the neighborhood!
Nice
Good food albeit a bit pricey
Nice brunch place
So good
Friendly staff. Excellent curries, muscles and frites. Wonderful wines. Even the other patrons spoke French so you know it has to be good!
Great Tiger shrimp
Simple set up, solid menu, excellent service. Good for either a long meal or a quick bite. Outside sitting is appropriately shaded
Looks good from Outside I never was inside but Google thinks I was
Food as good as the streets of Paris
