I dropped by for a steak sandwich with my son. Food was amazing, it made me feel like I was in Paris and good service. He is only 8 but he asks me repeatedly to bring him back there!

I think the place slightly above average; the service was below. During a large group, my girlfriend, who's celebration is was, received a call right after we left with a question regarding the bill. It turns out, there was no problem, and they could not calculate basic math. Normally, this would be no problem. But since they called my girlfriend, this interrupted her night.

Came here for lunch. Will never make that mistake again and hope you don't either. Had french onion soup along with steak fries and chicken entrees. The only good item was the soup. The entrees were bland and distasteful. The chicken was dry and burned sprinkled with some weird cheese and awful salad. The steak was half fat. The meat portion was dry (even though we ordered medium done). The server never even asked if our food was okay. Every time I looked over at him, he was looking at his phone! Such a shame. We paid too much for the food. Will never do that again.

Had lunch here on a Friday afternoon. Steak sandwich was very good. Pretty good wine prices for Manhattan. Could use more background music

Good food. Nice atmosphere. Fine service.

French bistro menu with some interesting Moroccan accents. I really enjoyed the skate with coucous. Good food, friendly service, nice atmosphere, reasonably spacious for this part of Manhattan. A way to escape from Second Avenue's roar.

The food was good just the staff was a bit abrupt.

Neighborhood gem - small venue with a limited menu, but I've had most of the entrees and the preparation is perfect. Lovely sauces. Amounts are not overwhelming. If you're dieting, the tuna tartare makes a nice meal, comes with toast nicely dressed greens.

Delicious food and warm service in a cozy narrow atmosphere reminiscent of the bistros I dined at in Paris, located right on 2nd Avenue! I went for dinner with my Father when he was visiting town and was greeted warmly and seated promptly. We both enjoyed Cabernet and Sancerre respectively, as well as two phenomenally delicious seafood dishes that were cooked and flavored to absolute perfection! This was my first visit and it certainly will not be my last. I look forward to frequenting Jean Claude as one of my neighborhood spots!

The sirloin steak and frites were alright. The frites were amazing well seasoned and tasty but the steak was a bit bland.

Kathryn Rudy

Lovely little bistro with a great menu, good wine and an attentive staff.

Jean Claude 2 is a very tasty French restaurant in the Upper East Side. The restaurant itself has a pleasantly old-fashioned French bistro feel to it, and reminds me of restaurants I've been to in Montreal. It's small and intimate. Service is friendly and efficient. The food was all delicious, from the appetizers to the dessert. My wife and I had the tuna tartare and a cheese board to share, I opted for the salmon main while my wife had their roasted chicken, and we shared creme brulee for dessert. The tuna tartare was great and I really liked my primary dish, too (seared Atlantic salmon, spinach, oyster mushrooms, grapefruit elder flower sauce). I will admit that the cheese board was underwhelming. Though of course, the creme brulee did not disappoint. Plus, even on Valentine's Day night, they did not have a prix fixe menu, which was greatly appreciated, as I dislike being forced into limited menu options. The fact that they don't opt into the lame prix fixe Valentine's menu in itself is reason to come here.

We had a lovely dinner here. The food was excellent, and the service was attentive. The space is a bit tight, but the decor is nice. We'll go back there.

Good prices on wine, nice salad and main courses though somewhat small portions. My roast chicken was a single breast, so those with big appetites beware. Friendly server. Quite crowded and tables very close, but overall I would return.

What a lovely place for a quiet date! The average age of the patrons at this restaurant is about 50. It's a mature and quiet little bistro with fantastic service. I liked it so much my first time with the boyfriend that I immediately returned and brought my sister less than a week afterwards. In the winter, you can hang up your coat on the coat rack by the door because the restaurant is not very large and there isn't much space for your coat at the tables. There are probably around 20 tables in total, with the majority of them being 2-seaters. In total, I think the restaurant can hold probably under 50 people. Whatever else you do, you must get the scallops (Coquilles Saint-Jacques) as an appetizer. Oh my gosh. Save for one other experience, I have never had such delicious scallops. It's not easy on your wallet, but the order comes with 3 decently sized scallops, each on a slice of beet, drizzled all over with some sort of light milk or cream. The scallops are seared perfectly and have such a satisfying texture. The light greens in the middle complemented the richness of the scallops. The pork loins were tasty, but a bit on the tough side. I mainly ordered the dish because it came with brussels sprouts and I'm a total sucker for brussels sprouts. I was a bit disappointed to find that the brussels sprouts were a bit meager and that they were actually shredded instead of halved, but they were still delicious. The boyfriend's steak frites were nothing to call home about, but were good. The second time I went, we ordered the scallops again (because, hello). The duck breast dish was absolutely amazing. I asked our server for how the duck breast should be cooked, and he suggested medium-rare to medium. I chose medium. Perfect for me. So tender and savory! The shredded shiitake mushrooms complemented the duck meat perfectly. I was less impressed with the cooked lettuce that was mixed with the shiitake mushrooms. I always found cooked lettuce to be a weird and off-putting. I love raw lettuce. But not cooked. The mussels dish was delicious at first, but then we realized why most restaurants offer mussels as an appetizer and not as a dish. You get sick of mussels really quickly. For the price, I was glad that we got a huge pot of mussels. But halfway through, I just wanted us to be done with the mussels and we just kept finding more mussels in the broth, much to our dismay- which is so unfortunate! I want to be excited about mussels! But it was too much. There's only so many mussels I can take before I have to quit. We did finish up all the mussels in the end, but I would not suggest ordering the mussels unless you are a serious serious mussels lover or you are splitting it 50/50 with someone. Overall, I love Jean Claude and you bet I will be returning for the scallops. At this point, however, I've kind of exhausted the entree list, and I'm not sure what entree I would order the next time I return. But in summary, great service, lovely ambience, and scallops. Just scallops.

Very good for the price point (at least in NYC). This is a no-nonsense French bistro serving classics like escargot, mussels, steak, duck and everything else you would expect at a bistro. The menu and wine list both seemed well thought out and cohesive. Everything was cooked well and the flavors were somehow both exciting and familiar. The service was great as well. Can't recommend this place enough.

It was good, the duck breast was amazing. I, did however, enjoyed the Bread pudding very much!

The food was very flavorful with well paired items. The reason only three stars is because of the cleanliness or lack thereof. The only word to describe the restroom is discusting, it looks like the last deep cleaning was decades ago. Service was fair.

I adore this place. Really good authentic French food at reasonable prices.

Outstanding place! The manager is so careful with the service which was almost impeccable both times I've been here. Regarding the food, meat very well cooked and fish well presented (very tasty the mushroom and zucchine risotto that comes with the codfish. Please don't forget to ask for the calf liver which is usually out of the list! The atmosphere is relaxed and nothing sophisticated but you go there for the food not the place itself

Reminds me of the places I like to eat at on the Left Bank of Paris. Simple menu with workday French classics.

The location maybe small and thus a bit crowded, but the food was great, with excellent friendly and service. Definitely will not break the bank. Will come again and again.

First of all, the restaurant is a lovely little bistro on the upper east side. Second, the menu, while small, has a varied selection of fabulous bistro fare. The wine lisr boast moderately priced reds and whites from France. The wait staff and the owner are lovely attentive people who make the dinner experience enjoyable. Most of all the food is phenomenal. The chef knows his craft. Beautifully prepared and perfectly seasoned everything on the menu is worth having.

Joseph Verdino

Had a great dinner date here the other night. The restaurant looks unassuming from the outside, but don't be fooled. And after reading the reviews, I was a little concerned about the steak being overcooked, as well as the service. But both my bf and I ordered steak frites, medium, and it was cooked perfectly. Service was good enough. No complaints. The wine was good and well priced for a Manhattan restaurant; Cotê du Rhone. Dessert was also great. Bread pudding and creme bruleè were delicious. Just know that it's a small restaurant and seating is tight. Overall, pleasantly surprised. Perfect little bistro. We will return.

Very approachable street side French cafe that nails the basics very well, and is a neighborhood go to. Reasonably priced and good wine selection. Always enjoy our meal here.
