Delicious!
Saw a cockroach in the bathroom :( food was disappointing
If you are a korean, do not go. I came out of the restaurant only with disappointment. The price for every dish does not match the quality or the tase. It is not the worst restaurant you will go to, but it is surely not a good one. I have never written a review before, but I needed to inform other people on this.
Over hyped korean food. 60% authentic. You get better korean food and at 75% of the cost in KTown

had a great meal here -- loved the vibe of the place and the amazing flavors of all the dishes. we were seated promptly at our reserved time. I had never had Makgeolli (an unfiltered rice beer) before but loved it's light and refreshing taste (admittedly, I'm not much of a beer drinker). I loved that the menus are kept right at your seat (just under the table, like in a school desk) which made it easy to refer to them as we ate various dishes. Everything was designed for sharing, which is my favorite way to dine. Radish Kimchi & Brisket Fried Rice w. egg, Scallion Pancake w. Local Squid and Homemade Cold Tofu were the most memorable dishes.
Quiet little spot with great food.
Cozy spot. Food is good. They take group reservations too.
The food was amazing! We tried a bit of everything off the restaurant week menu and there was nothing I didn't like
The food isn't that bad but it's absolutely nothing special and you can get more better quality good for your money in KTown and that's saying something. The interior is nice though.
best korean restaurant in NYC. Win at the bar is awesome!
Great drinks Great food Great company

Great food, good service and a very nice place
Great Korean food.
The restaurant is really cozy. Its not jammed packed with people so it didnt get loud. The food was amazing quality; I had sweet and sour chicken that was crunchy and sweet, thick noodles with pork belly and black bean sauce that was amazing, and finished with sweet potato ice cream (It is very good!!) Definitely coming back here.
Very pricey but goos
Great food, nice ambiance and good prices fir nyc!
Good
My first time there 2yrs ago.. Food was da bomb! Price was high but I didn't mind it cuz food that that good!.. was greeted rite away when walked in even when we had made revs. for the night.. plus we waited (standing) for almost an hour (wit resv).. 10-15mins is acceptable but more than that it's crazy!.. then I went back jus 2 weeks ago.. brought my husband this time.. n I cannot wait to have him try the food n hear him praise the place.. I remembered how I loved the food when there n can't wait to hv the same taste again.. my garlic fried chicken wit radish n jalapenos pickle was not the same (it was way over cooked I can't even bite it!.. I was sooo disappointed).. I guess go there when u real hungry.. the place is tight(I don't mind) but cozy.. Asian but from New York.. kinda rude.. never coming back.. I'll jus hv to learn how to cook my own garlic fried chicken now..
Really sumptuous options here. Amazing flavors and high quality ingredients. It is a little more expensive than expected but a nice treat
I came by myself on a Saturday evening when I was in the area and I enjoyed a really great meal. Other than bi bim bap, I am not very familiar with Korean food and I was interested in trying new food. The waiter was fantastic and suggested …
Yummy Korean food and rich choice of sake and Japanese whiskey, cozy setting and warm service as well.

One of the tastiest dining establishments in NYC. Worth the wait. Have a drink at the bar if you have to...you won't regret it or forget it.
One of my favorites! Authentic Korean food with a creative spin and some flair too it, artfully and deliciously done. Hooni Kim is brilliant. In summer, nothing beats the Naengmyun (chilled noodles)! The grilled wings and garlic fried chicken are also fantastic, and the cocktails. Make a reservation! Or go for happy hour 4-7 and sit at the bar for a bites menu and 1/3 off drinks.
Restaurant week! Great deals on delicious food!
Tasty
Copious amounts of food, great quality.
Great service from the ver professional manager taking care of you like family with amazing food
At Hanjan, Chef Hooni Kim (of Danji) tries for a more casual, pub-like atmosphere and menu still focuses on his Korean roots. Is it successful? If the rating is based solely on the late-night ramen offered here, it's a mixed bag. There's some successes in the thick, 12-hour broth topped with a soft-boiled egg, three slices of pork belly, scallions, and bean sprouts. The noodles are reminiscent of the ones found at Totto and the ramen, served in the gold metallic pots, has a little too much resemblance to the taste of Shin Ramyun, the packaged version sold in grocery stores. True, there are some significant differences between the prepackaged version you can make at home versus the ramen at Hanjan, but I don't think it's worth the $16.
Amazing flavours, fantastic food!
Great place to spend time with friends, good food and service, not loud. Really really good
Good food, good service, quiet place for lunch
Loved this place! The sope is beautiful, almost a hidden gem tucked away from the busy city outside. Ate here for lunch with my bf whose never had good Korean food, and we both loved everything. Started with the Chicken Katsu, which was a perfectly fried chicken cutlet that wasn't greasy or over battered. The caramelized onion dipping sauce and the cabbage salad really rounded it out giving it richness and a fresh crunch.for entrees I had the Bulgogi Beef Bibimbap, which was perfectly prepared in a large bowl with fresh vegetables, beef, and a soft cooked egg. Finished with a healthy heaping of their house made Gochujang and I was in heaven. My bf had their Ssam-bap (think thai lettuce wraps) set with spicy pork and really enjoyed it. So glad we found this place and look forward to may return meals here.
The service, food, and atmosphere were great! I would recommend this so anyone who loves Korean food.
Hanjan offers a modern take on Korean food. This place has a similar menu and vibe to Danji, and that's because they're owned by the same chef. I tried the pre-fixe menu on my second visit here. All of their dishes were excellent. It's got a hip vibe with the noise level pretty high. It's a bit on the pricey side, but I would go back here for a casual date or a meal with friends.
Food was delicious. The bartender was attentive and helpful. That being said, everything I ordered had rice, which made the meal super filling. I’d preferred to sample different things and still had room for dessert. Also, the black cod dish, while super delicious, there was more daikon on my plate than the fish. Slightly disappointed on the portion, but that’s minor.
Interesting Korean food. We had the country style dinner (sashimi, tofu soup, pork ribs, ...). Pork ribs were terrific, the rest good. Shiso sorbet was great.
A tucked away gem. Comfy and food was delicious.
Amazing food and a great atmosphere!
All of the foods here are great, their cold noodle is the best in ktown, and they use great ingredients, so I get the price point. But, the portions are SO small, they are more like appetizer foods even when you order entree.
Excellent food with a great vibe- the spicy ricecake is one of best things I've ever eaten, as was the spicy squid and noodles w seafood. Perfect when paired w soju! Really delicious, spicy (but not painful) and fresh. Big portions!! Can't wait to come back.
Nice ambience and decent HH deal! Food is great too.
Great cozy restaurant, like it when it's not packed with people. When it's packed it's too stuffy to eat in the restaurant. The staffs are nice and helpful. Also knowledgeable in every dishes with ingredients. I suggest trying spicy squid stir fry, spicy soy braised chicken over glass noodles, bbq wagyu short ribs and the Kimchi beef brisket fried rice. Overall great concept and the fusion of cruise are tasty and we'll balanced flavors.
High End gourmet korean food. Well worth the higher price. The seafood pancakes was levels over any other I ever tried l
I was invited to dinner at Hanjan by a friend. Because I must eat gluten-free, I checked their online menu in advance only to find the meaningless term “low gluten”. For people like me “low gluten” means poisonous. After many calls to the restaurant I reached a staff member who confirmed my fears. "Low gluten" on their menu really does mean there is gluten in the dishes, just not very much. I find their menu to be highly deceptive. DO NOT EAT here if you must avoid gluten.
Totally loved this place
Unnecessarily pretentious staff
Cute place for Korean but on the pricier side. I wasn't a fan of the cod roe bibimbap tho.... Too fishy
Very pleasant experience and good taste. Nice dishes in lunch menu. Almost all seats are been taken and the place been packed with locals.
Went Saturday eve for what has to be the most mediocre overpriced bibimbap I have ever had. $25 is a complete and total joke. And, to add insult, banchan was a $10 upcharge! Avoid this spot.
(Translated by Google) Korean food such as Dabi discovered during a trip to the US !! Super flavorful Korean food by Chef Hooni. Get the noodles here! Jjajangmyeon, jjambbong, and naengmyeon kill it here!
Great appetizers, laid back service
Delicious dishes and service. Hit on all notes and every dish was enjoyable and memorable. Our party was stuffed and happy afterwards
Very attentive wait staff, excellent food.
Different spices used, different tastes achieved, all very good!
Take it from a Korean, Hanjan is legit! Honestly, I walked in with some doubt, but was pleasantly surprised. I'll definitely be coming back!
Legit korean food, great makgoli.
Fantastic service and food.
Awesome food and drinks, really nice staff!
Had a prix-fixe menu on a recent visit with a large group; the kitchen presented the dishes family-style, with ample helpings for all. The dishes were bright, pleasantly spicy, and full of freshness. The restaurant cheerfully accommodates large groups, and did make substitutions for two diners in our party with shellfish allergies. The noise reached a level that made conversation difficult except with one’s immediate neighbor.
Fantastic Korean restaurant with helpful staff (with genuinely good recommendations).
Great food, worth the visit
Cute little restaurant turning out tasty modern Korean cuisine. A little loud, a little crowded/tight during peak times but usually a good experience.
Fantastic lunch, great service, authentic dishes. Tried the dumplings and bimbimbap, highly recommended.
Loved this place
The food was delicious, but the portions were small.
Great Food & vibe! Really additive to K town
Clean cozy but a little bit high price
Some of the best food I have had. Excellent drinks, Excellent service.
Only been there once, but already #1 on 3 of my lists: (1) Go-to for Korean (bye- Korea Town) (2) best place near Penn Station for great pre- or post-Amtrak meal (3) best fried dumplings ever, and I haven't even got to the bibimbap yet! Michelin listed.
Attentive staff. Good food. Low key fun to share dishes. Bar. Made adjustments to satisfy my friends’ requests to her diet needs.
I've always naturally associated Korean food in NYC with KTown. However, my Korean friends have stated multiple times that I need to get out of KTown and check out Hanjan in the Flatiron. Thus, I took it upon myself to make my way over here for lunch. Now during lunch, Hanjan does have a condensed menu, so I can't really speak on what is served during dinner. Nonetheless, I did have a good lunch experience. When you first walk into Hanjan, you'll realize that this place isn't that large. There are assorted tables scattered along the sides and in the middle, there is a big communal booth in which you can seat a good 20 or so people. That being said, this place is of the more intimate setting and you definitely won't be finding the loud and obnoxious Koreatown crowd here. For lunch, you have the choice between 10 different entrees and 7 appetizers. Pretty minimal in a sense, but for lunch, it's quite alright with me. I decided to opt for the Sizzling Hot Bibimbap ($18). It comes loaded with: marinated vegetables, bugolgi beef, rice, and a fried egg all in a sizzling cast iron bowl. When my food came out, the presentation was spot on. This food looked much more appetizing than the stuff you get at KTown. What helped put this over the top was their homemade gochujang. It wasn't overly salty and had just the right amount of garlic and spice to give my bibimbap a nice kick. Portion-wise it's definitely enough food for a lunch. The bugolgi was cooked spot on and wasn't overly salty. Also, there was a good mix of marinated vegetables which complemented the gochujang well. Service-wise, Hanjan is pretty decent. During my lunch, it did take around 30 minutes for us to have our food served, which is a little long, but luckily there was a conversation going on. Otherwise, I'd be a little ticked off to say the least. All in all, Hanjan is a great escape from the hell that is also known as Koreatown. The Flatiron is laid back, and Hanjan provides a nice intimate atmosphere where you can wind down and enjoy a great meal.
Atmosphere was great at Hanjan. Food was okay but a bit overpriced. And service was rushed. We haven’t even finished our appetizers and our main courses were brought out - and we could barely fit all dishes on the table and had to eat …
Delicious bibimbop. They were good about knowing what I could eat that was gluten free, too.
High Quality Korean Food.
Very good food, great staff, nice ambience.
Best fusiony korean I've had. Definitely going back.
The portions are very small. The short ribs taste like pot roast with unsalted carrots and potatoes there are lots of restaurants in New York I wish I wouldn’t have chosen this one.
Amazing korean fusion food!
Great service, great food
Lovely restaurant with westernized Korean food. In Unexpectedly it tastes really good.
Great modern Korean cuisine
Very average. Not a single dish stood out.
Tourist trap prices and portions keep me from giving it a higher rating. The food itself and the service were decent, but everything is priced almost double what you would pay just a few blocks up in Koreatown.
Used to be a favorite. Food is very good but service has been spotty in the past. It is a solid lunch spot but could be better.
Good flavor but small quantities. I felt hungry again in couple of hours.
Pretty good 'modern' Korean
Amazing food
Small lunch menu but they served reeeeeally good food so keep an open mind
Delicious Korean food. Definitely a good experience
Fantastic Korean food - the food was great, friendly service, and a great atmosphere! My least favourite food was the garlic fried chicken. The jajangmyeon was fantastic and it's a MUST order. If it's in season don't miss out on the soft shell crab! I would love to come back and if you haven't been to Hanjan reserve you spot now.
Decent food.
I was invited by family to visit this unique Korean fine dining restaurant. Korean fine dining? Yes. Regrets. The 5 of us ordered a glorious dish of spicy rice cake, spicy kimchi fried rice, fishcake soup with spicy broth in a stone pot, braised pig feet presented with eloquence, and other misc. dishes. Each dish tasted decent, but not particularly special or different. After our meal (or food tasting), and bill of $100+, all 5 of us were befuddled with an empty stomach. A 4 year old girl could have eaten all the food we ordered, and more. Flabbergasted, we left for K-town to eat. Came hungry and loaded, and left starving and broke. The 2 stars are for the luminous atmosphere and attentive service.
What a gift to NYC and the American dining scene! Chef Lim was a sous chef at the esteemed Daniel (Michelin 3 Stars) and chef at Soogil. His experience speaks well to his personal interpretations of Korean food and modernizes it in a unique, unexpected way. I loved all the dishes we sampled and can't wait to return!
Tapas-style Korean comfort food. Perfect for cold nights, dates or dinner with friends. Sure to impress. Everything is rich. Excellent prices for such perfectly crafted flavors. No surprise when you learn head chef Hooni Kim boasts such high end work experience as Danielle and Masa. He truly brings high end feel to the food inside a beautifully decorated, cozy hidden gem.
Solid new Korean — order the rice cakes, the freshly killed chicken skewers, and the pork belly.
A lovely place for Korean food and conversations.
Not authentic Korean, but a good take for Americans.
Best cold noodles in the city! Friendly and fast service :)
Great music, good table service, sound system was good.
Extra over priced dishes and unfriendly staff. They do think it’s fine dining restaurant yet its service doesn’t seem so. Specially over priced drink menus.

The food here is generally quite good. I prefer the plates where they've perfected traditional Korean dishes (like the dduk bokki) rather than more fusion-y items. Top-notch ingredients + everything homemade + high-level technique makes the slightly higher price versus places in K-town or Flushing well worth it. But the 5 stars are really only for one reason: jjangmyun. Best version I've had anywhere. Including some famous places in Seoul. Really chewy noodles, and bean sauce with just enough of a salty punch, slicked with pork fat. The other Korean-Chinese items are great too (especially the bokkeum bap/fried rice), but the jjangmyun is next level. Seriously, these guys should just open up a jjangmyun shop so I can go a couple times a week.
The cuisine was quite tasty and their margaritas were as well. I truly enjoyed the Korean inspired dishes and the authenticity of the atmosphere.
Great creative food
(Translated by Google) If you are a Korean, do not go. I came out of the restaurant only with disappointment. The price for every dish does not match the quality of the taste. Really small portions and not great quality dining
Delicious Korean food and lively atmosphere. Try the rice beer - it's refreshing and unusual.
Good Korean place
Small, noisy, with a large central table with benches, and smaller tables on the sides of the dining room. That said, the food was excellent, and the service was, as well. The small and noisy part is a typically New York thing for smaller restaurants, so it shouldn't put anyone off too much. As mentioned, food and service were top-notch. Try it, you'll like it.
Tastes good... But I don't like how they manage. They don't allow you additional order.
Chief Hooni Kim has outdone himself with the food at Hanjan. Food: a remarkable and unapologetic quality-first mentality. This is not the kind of food you'll find in K Town. Although the menu looks similar, this restaurant embodies 'doing it right' even when people may not notice. From the freshly grated real wasabi root in the pork neck stew dipping sauce to the unquestionable freshness of the ingredients, Hanjan has re-imagined what Korean food can be and how it can be elevated to new heights for the ever changing modern palates of New York. Experience: Friendly service that is very attentive. Beautifully thoughtful and functional interior design. Although a bit expensive, Hanjan is worth every penny!
Truly elevated Korean dish. To elevate a dish is not just replace every single piece of beef with wagyu. Elevation of the dish came with understanding the dish. The smoky flavor of the spicy seafood noodle is really an amazing touch, and that comes with understanding of the dish. Perfect experience, the best Korean food I ever had so far.
This was the best Korean food I ever ate
We tried Hanjan with some friends last week and though we enjoyed the food, the service was a bit of a turn off. We made the mistake of not taking a free table immediately when we arrived and got drinks across the street. When we were ready, they already had a 1.5 hour wait. We gave our cell number and tried a few more area bars. We got a call later that the table was ready, so we downed our drinks and ran back. Unfortunately, the table was still occupied because the tapas style menu meant the patrons had decided to go for a few more rounds. After a visit to yet one more bar, we returned. We tried the ginger drink and the Korean spice cocktails which were both good. The spice drink was particularly great though my wife didn't get to completely enjoy it as it was taken before she had finished. When she told the waiter, rather than apologizing, he told her she was in fact done. Not awesome. We also tried the sojus, regular and raspberry, after finishing the cocktails, and while good, I think the one time was enough. We didn't originally realize that it was tapas style (mostly because the dishes were all main course priced) and at the waiter's suggestion, ended up ordering about 10. I got the feeling he was up-selling us a bit hard as he kept pushing for more of his "recommendations", basically whatever was left that we hadn't ordered. Everything was good, but the standouts were the spicy squid, fried chicken (think upscale KFC), and sashimi. The pork belly skewers, chicken skin (not as weird as it sounds), pork trotters (also way better and less weird than they sound) were all incredible. The fried rice (highly suggested) was a disappointment. It was pretty greasy and didn't have much substance. We also tried the ramen, which was good (mostly because it was nice and spicy like I enjoy), but definitely not up to the story out waiter told us about the 12 hour process it goes through. I'm also not a raman expert, but the noodles seemed to be out of a box to me. The broth was worth it though. As mentioned, the service was downright poor. We hardly saw our waiter after ordering except when ordering the ramen. We also didn't get explanations of what many of the dishes were as they arrived or much help with the menu. The food that was good was outstanding. If you are looking just for great food and don't care about service (fairly common in the area), it's definitely worth a visit. I'd probably still even go back just for the trotters. If only they did takeout...
I don't understand how they can create a jjamppong that's so incredibly devoid of any flavor, and then charge $17 for it. Definitely not going back any time soon.
Had the worst experience with the Host. Long story short, we waited 2.5hours and didn't eat here at the end. She messed up, and got really offensive about it. My advise is if she takes your number and said that she will call you, she may or may not call. If she had you sit at the bar ordering drinks while waiting for you table, she will never give you that table. But if you just had it and going to leave the place, she will somehow magically "able to sit you right the way".
