I went to Gotham Bar and Grill after i was looking for a good place with good steak on Teddy`s guide. I was pleasantly surprised from the really worm welcoming in the restaurant. The customer service is amazing. The staff is doing there best so you can feel in the mood. The food is great and i highly recommend this restaurant.

The staff was great! Couldn’t have been more accommodating to my husband using a walker! Our waiter was a delight! The fish dish we ordered was lovely! Having said that, the menu itself was a bit (very) precious. I’m used to asking questions about menu items, but using the French name for a pepper sprinkled on the food, was a bit much. We’ve been to the Gotham before and much prefer the old one. It will be a long time until we venture there again.

This is a Michelin star restaurant and I can see why. This place has been around for over 30 years with the same chef in the kitchen !!! We arrived late at 9:15 pm and we're warmly greeted by the gentleman up front. This restaurant is a block away from The Strand Bookstore. The decor is formal and spacious. Our waitress Gabriella was attentive and very helpful. They close at 9:45 pm and we didn't feel rushed at all. We ordered the Mushroom Tagliatelle which was cooked perfectly and filled with delicious morels and cream sauce. The Miso Black cod was outstanding. The cod was thick and rich. The sauce paired well with the star of the dish - the cod. The vegetable (Bok Choy) was slightly crunchy and delicious. Kudos also to the bartender who made the best Sazerac I've tasted. Wow!!!! It was a great meal and a great experience! Will be back next time I'm in the area.

My family and I went here for a birthday dinner and got exactly what you would expect from a restaurant of this caliber, very professional service, delicious and perfectly prepared food and a high degree of hospitality. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant for anyone who is ready to spend a pretty penny on dinner.

If you’re in the mood for simply one of the best meals in an unpretentious setting, go here. My personal favorites are foie gras appetizer & prime beef entree. Their desserts are all gorgeous as well. There is absolutely nothing wrong with dining at the bar or a table for two near the bar if you have company. If you happen to be a larger party, it’d be best to call ahead for reservations. Their wines & cocktails are among the best in creation. Enjoy often!

Gotham. The place is a NY institution and I can't believe I never visited until now! First impression was that the decor felt a touch dated and I was taking a small step back in time but I grew to like it because the service and food were freaking amazing. I'm not sure I can remember the last time a restaurant actually carried our drinks from the bar to the table vs just moving the tab. Great staff all around from the hosts to the bartender and dining room. The menu felt a little traditional too but execution was exceptional. Everything was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. I don't normally order steak with all the great steakhouses in NYC and was pleasantly surprised by one of the best steaks I've had, anywhere!

Very sophisticated but not stuffy restaurant. My steak was perfectly seared and cooked. The staff was very friendly and helpful when I spilled water all over myself like a damn fool. The dessert menu is extensive and the lime meringue was wonderful.

The Gotham Bar and Grill is at the very top of many people's favorite NYC restaurants. I have been eating at Gotham for years, and the elegant room, service, and gracious presentation are still going strong. However, the kitchen has dropped a notch in its culinary preparation. Everything is good, but not great. My risotto was runny, tasting fresh, but not delicious. Fish dishes were good, but no one exclaimed great. In fact, the best dish at our table of five was the steak, surprising for a gourmet restaurant. Gotham Bar and Grill has been a "grand dame" of NYC restaurants for decades. It's still going strong, but like many of us, has lost a step or two. A refurb in both space and kitchen may be necessary. We all need a little "lift" when the time comes.

Lunch was delicious. We took advantage of restaurant week to go to this Michelin starred restaurant. The ceviche was lovely with a hint of spice and light on acid. The braised short ribs were soft and tender.

Service was absolutely top-notch, and from the start to finish, everything was flawless. I ordered Wild Striped Bass for appetizer, Soft Shell Crabs for main, and the famous chocolate cake for dessert. Soft Shell Crabs were amazing, but more than anything, I could not forget the taste of the chocolate cake that was served at perfect temperature.

I completely had fun at this restaurant, the food is impressive, and also the washrooms were not bad for public. It was a little chilly indoors, so yeah, it was not the most enjoyable. The service is great. I will certainly take into consideration going back once again if I ever land the opportunity. Me as well as my friend ordered the sandwiches as well as we were not disappointed. My one suggestion is to keep the chilly exterior. Thank you!

Classic New York fine dining experience. The menu is set up for ordering individual courses (up to 3) but don't be shy in selecting one or two. The first two are typically smaller versions with the third being your primary course. Everything was excellent...from the seafood dishes to the steak to the fowl (duck breast in this case). The specialty drinks were all very good twists on traditional drinks (e.g. hibiscus I fused mule). Deserts were all excellent and service was as expected for a fine restaurant. This is not an inexpensive place so be prepared to pay for it, but you won't be disappointed.

My friend and I came here for happy hour around Valentine's Day. There were a lot of people so all the seats are taken. We decided enjoy a glass of wine at the bar. The table started to open up so we sat at one and ordered some food. She ordered lobster tacos and I ordered a arugula salad and added shrimp to it (it came with 6 shrimp total). The salad was surprisingly good! It came with pomegranate seeds, pumpkin seeds, butternut squash & a champagne vinaigrette. He also shared the regular fries which came with three dipping sauces. Ranch, sriracha & regular ketchup.

Gotham has always been one of our favorite dining establishments for a special occasion. Holidays, anniversaries and birthdays were celebrated here because of the excellent food, service and ambiance. After years of consistent excellence what a disappointment when we returned to find that there was a new chef, a very limited strange menu, small portions and nothing that would make us want to return. Very sad that we lost one of our favorite restaurants.

Beautiful setting. Waiter was charming though service was a bit slow. We had tuna tartare, ravioli, duck, and cod. Everything was very good, cod the best I've had, and duck close to the best. An off note was that both duck and cod had acidic notes (sauce, quinoa) that do not pair well with wine. Wines by the glass were all good, emphasizing tight and tannic flavors rather than fruit--good food pairings more than to be enjoyed on their own.

Loved the Gotham Bar and Grill - we went to the Grill after scoring tickets to Hamilton (Matinee). Cocktails are carefully crafted - no spray gun here! Tonic comes out of little bottles of Fever Tree. Solid menu. Sean Connery is a frequent diner - so look for him in the corner table.

I just want to start out by saying that this restaurant was exceptionally good and the service and the food were executed at a very high level; however i rated Gotham 4 stars due to lack of originality. I think the menu is a perfect size and options vary but i partly wish with a restaurant at this level and pedigree would offer specials. But none the less the steak was literally best steak I’ve had in my life, the drinks were crafted well and proportions were always spot on. The lamb chops were delicious. I definitely can see why the restaurant has a consistent Michelin star just wish that with that level of skill one wonders why they don’t provide seasonal or weekly specials to show some flare

Made online reservations and got a table for 6people. Friendly staff and fantastic service. I don't think we had to ask for water once and we must have eaten over a dozen of their oves of their homemade breads. Although we were 6, we were given a nice large table and weren't jammed together to try to accommodate for more seating in the restaurant. Tables spaced nicely apart so you're not elbow to elbow with the other table. We ordered a mix of dishes: steaks, tuna tartar, duck, seafood salad and tagliatelle. We normally like to share with our friends but this time round everyone was stingy as the food was so good. Duck, seafood and steak all cooked to perfection, served at the proper temperature, perfectly seasoned and oh so delicious. Price was in the high mid- high range but quality, flavour, service and atmosphere were all outstanding. Thank you Gotham for a memorable night with our friends!!

My birthday was celebrated here. The restaurant kept the secret of our special guest and with flowers for the table and a birthday cake with my name and candles. We started with caviar - a service for each guest. Then each followed with a pasta - risotto with spring vegetables and wild mushrooms or ravioli filled with sublime cheese. And the chocolate birthday cake. They paired glasses of wine with each course. It was a delightful meal both delicious as well as celebratory. Their reputation is well deserved

New chef new menu with some of the old loyal crowd and bartenders. Some miss the old others talk about renewal. Either way this is a beautiful, spacious bar with an upscale feel. The prices remind one that it is upscale. The drinks as with the old regime remain good with a nicely blended old Fashion. Unfortunately, I did not try the food so I am unable to comment.

Our casually-dressed walk-in foursome were warmly welcomed. Server was attentive, friendly, and very helpful with menu questions. Three of us shared the Seafood salad (two orders) and the other had the Goat cheese tortellini appetizers. Both were Excellent. Two of us had the steak and two of us had the Duck breast. Also beyond delicious. We had not been to Gotham for a while but it again exceeded our expectations in every way. Dinner was marvelous.

I had a wonderful lunch at this restaurant. For starters I had the yellowtail crudo which was flavored gently with the white soy, some peppers and pink rock salt. A very nice and subtle flavor. For my entree I had the spicy octopus ragu. It came with a black pasta. While it really was not that spicy and there were some longer tentacles, the dish tasted great as there was a variety of seafood mixed into it. Really nice.

What can I say about Gotham that hasn't already been said? The staff is amazingly efficient, they make you feel like they are there for you - not like other restaurants where they're working for their tips. The overall atmosphere wasn't anything to write home about, it was a nice and clean place with a very implied dress code. Nothing was out of place though, it is artistically simple. Where things get really interesting though is the menu. The starters, unbelievable. The entrees, I don't know how to best describe them other than they're some of the best I've had. The dessert. Oh my... I feel like I'll be talking about the desserts from here for quite a long time! The prices, obviously, are a bit high. However, I very much recommend this restaurant not only as a "you need to try it once for a special occasion", but also as a "you'll wish you could be a regular here"!

This is one of the places where I find every dish amazing. The food is not only good but also challenges your senses. The texture of the chocolate cake is definitely not something you would expect from the look (it looks like any other normal chocolate cake, doesn’t it?) The wet-aged steak tastes like steak, but the 40-day dry-aged steak tastes like something else. It has some special aroma as you slowly chew it. They also have a wine book for you to choose from. The two bottles that we had were really good to pair with the food.

We were disappointed with our meal at Gotham. For a Michelin star restaurant, the food was very mediocre. My girlfriend and I had the seafood salad and a shrimp dish to start. The seafood salad was ceviche style. While most of the items in the salad were good, the calamari was extremely rubbery. The shrimp dish had a nice spice but the shrimp were over cooked. We had two entrees. The black miso cod and the surf and turf. While the piece of cod was nice, the sauce was way too sweet and over powered the dish. The surf and turf was ok. Lobster was again chewy and the short rib was cooked in a Hoisen style sauce that was way too sweet. For desert, we split the chocolate cake which again was average. We didn’t finish our entrees or our desert which is rare. The wine, based on the sommelier’s recommendation was excellent. The service was otherwise average. Our waitress was humorless. I don’t mind spending $350 for two but this was a colossal waste of money.

I went here for my birthday, and the food was phenomenal. It was my first day in New York City, and it was not going well. They made all the struggle worth it in the end. The staff are very inviting, and helpful. I took a seat at the bar, and had the best dining experience of my life. The Foie Gras was amazing, and the rest of the meal and drinks did not disappoint. It’s one of those places. You find yourself making “excuses” to go back. The menu options and attention to detail are artistry. The wine list under Josh now has many selections from lesser known, yet amazing, wine regions for the wine geeks. You can now pop two or three bottles without getting third degree burns from the credit card receipt. There are certain places in the World that someone should at. Gotham is in that list. Saúde!

New chef new menu with some of the old loyal crowd and bartenders. Some miss the old others talk about renewal. Either way this is a beautiful, spacious bar with an upscale feel. The prices remind one that it is upscale. The drinks as with the old regime remain good with a nicely blended old Fashion. Unfortunately, I did not try the food so I am unable to comment.

As I've seen a few times in other reviews, they really do pack 'em in! For these prices, I'd rather be closer to my tablemates than to the folks at the next table. Plenty of restaurants in NYC of all prices ranges have room around the tables. When you have to pull the table out 2 feet from the back wall to get the diners into there your tables are too close together! We had a GREAT meal with dear friends on Saturday night. Shared two apps (tuna tartare and seafood medley), and each had a different entree (strip steak, bass, chicken, halibut), and everyone enjoyed. The steak was too big to finish! Dessert was the chocolate cake, very dark chocolate. Online menu lists pear sorbet, but they had "just changed it to coconut". Online menu still shows pear. Sorry to have missed that.

My husband has been here before, but this was my first time. You walk in and feel like you have stepped into a NY institution. Old money surrounded by new money, all enjoying some amazing food. We came for restaurant week and were anything but disappointed. We had the gazpacho, branzino, and shared their chocolate cake with salted almond ice cream. Each bite played delightfully on my tongue. I would definitely go again and again and again.

Food was tasty, especially their oysters. Menu had all the basics. Strong wine list, with something for everyone, while the cocktails looked less intriguing. Then again this isn't the type of place to look for cocktails but for the right wine to accompany your meal. Plates are good for sharing. It was worth trying out, but not dying to go back. Service was nice if a bit too much, one of those were you don't realize just how much water you drank with your meal as the glass is always full.

This Michelin star restaurant offers fantastic service, great food, and a large wine selection. From the moment you enter the establishment you are greeted with professionalism and courtesy. We had the NY strip, the tagliatelle, and a selection of appetizers. The food was amazing, and the presentation was beautiful. Our waiter was attentive and even offered us a complementary desert for my fiancee's birthday.

The uni pasta here is really yummy so good but I always go here to eat uni pasta even if I'm alone the price is getting high per order and their oyster is getting smaller poor because it's $1 happy hour we are still paying doesn't mean your giving us poor quality that's sucks Regarding the famous UNI PASTA pls add more sometimes you can only see 1 pc uni that's it but I still order.

The Gotham is an upscale dining venue. It is not cheap. It’s a class act and you pay for a class act in NYC. The room is very warm and comfortable. Lots of metals and woods. On Friday the place had a palpable buzz without being too loud which was a treat. The service was similarly first-class. Our server Nicole, an obvious pro, answered all of our questions with grace. I suspect she represents the service here very well. The food was all good. The tuna tartare and the ravioli had very good flavor. Similarly, the miso cod and steak were masterfully prepared and similarly tasty. Not the very best I’ve ever had, but solid offerings. This place is pricey, so come prepared for a little sticker shock. Bring a fancy date or a high-end business client. I would not hesitate to return.

Impeccable service from start to finish—an incredible meal here for our anniversary. The steak was out of this world perfection and the miso marinated cod was elegant and tasty. Would also highly recommend the sea food salad. The beet salad was tremendously fresh and vibrant.

Worst service I’ve received in NYC. Had a booking for 9.30pm, wasn’t seated till 10pm, was told by Joseph we would be looked after and receive extra treats for the wait, instead we were left in the corner, took till 10.30pm for a waiter to take our order and then she had to come back 5mins later to tell us they were out of the food we wanted... the food was average and over priced for what it was, the cocktails were too sweet.. I had a Hibiscus Mule. They didn’t once ask how our meal was and after they cleared our dinner plates left us there for 20mins with no desert menu or check, we had to flag them down at 11.45pm to ask them for our bill and no extra treats as promised. For a restaurant of that caliber I expected much more! Very disappointed and will not return. I’m a New York local and will be spreading the news far and wide to NOT visit this restaurant!
