REVIEWS OF Estela IN New York

Greg Sun

Great atmosphere. The food is made to share so 5-6 plates for two people. They don't look like much but the flavor and textures are surprising. Textures are well played with. Definitely will be back

Blonka Winkfield

This small Spanish upscale Tapas place is really delicious! They pay great attention to detail with a really extensive heavily curated wine list. the restaurant oenologist was there making suggestions. We opted for something from the cocktail list and we also decided to share four of the entrees. Make sure you try the black rice with squid and the crab and seaweed salad as a starter are real winners. You said of the bar and that made it very easy for us to communicate with the bartender who was really knowledgeable about all of the menu items.

Cláudio Cardoso

Food was good, not amazing for the praise that this restaurant has, too full, you wait for your table in a packed area, without great space to move or be comfortable at the door. My bill had two dishes that never arrived and when my bill was presented after desserts, this dishes couldn't be removed from my bill and they offered to serve them after dessert and coffee when we were ready to leave, this was surprising and not a good end to my meal. Drinks takes forever and not that good. Overall I didn't feel the place or the standard that it should have, maybe a bad night, but definitely over booked and overrated

Madelyn

Everything was delicious on the menu! The standouts for us were the lamb ribs and the fried rice with squid ink and squid. The asparagus (raw) with roe was also a great flavor combination. I would recommend making a reservation. If you want a quieter area, ask for the little alcove with a sky light. It was like we were having a private dinner.

Goddess Stacey

Cozy little spot with a friendly staff and soft lighting. The food is worth the wait and a good value for the price. They have a great selection of wines from which to choose to complement your dinner. I talked with my waiter a bit about Epicsaga - Infinity. Seems like everyone's talking about that nowadays!

Sabine Gebser

A transcendent culinary experience from top to bottom! We ordered almost every single surprising dish on the menu and positively had our minds and tastebuds blown into the stratosphere! An absolute Must.

SPR Spr

Fantastic, culinary great! We traveled the world. This chef is perfect in keeping simplicity on an extraordinary level.

Anna Biriuk

Food is very delicious but service is slow. And I wish it would be more variety of food there. The menu is very narrow.

Alan Linic

Service was amazing, drinks were great. But the food... the food was a whole other level. First of all, I will admit that the price tag is significant, especially since you are going to be ordering like 2-3 of these tapas-style dishes per person. But nobody will be complaining, because by the second dish you're going to wish you had just gotten on of everything on the menu. Since everything was an ace I'll stick to the surprises. First if all the endive salad. Anyone who hates bitter will not like this, but if you're a dry wine/dark chocolate/black coffee type, do it. The presentation is phenomenal and the balance between the leaves and the filling is like a narrative experience for your mouth. The burrata was another surprise win, just a big old gob of cool, creamy cheese served on a thick slab of charred bread soaking up gravy from a shallow bowl.

Elizabeth Salibian

Wow - every dish was more and different than what you expect. The highlights were the ribs, black rice and the endive salad. Other amazing dishes: Beef Tartare, Mussels and Almonds. Warm lighting, limited seating, and reservations are a must. Tip: Would recommend going on a double-date or a small group so you can try many different dishes!

Anna Kloots

Exceeded my very high expectations. Absolutely delicious and perfectly executed food, friendly and helpful service, and wonderful cozy environment. An absolute gem you must visit.

Alex W

Amazing food, great vibe. Our favourite restaurant in NYC. The chocolate cake is the best dessert in the city.

Daniel Molina

Don't get me wrong, please! This is a 5-star food restaurant. The food is just INCREDIBLE. You should DEFINITELY go there. However, I feel that it is my duty when making a review to be completely fair on all aspects. With that in mind, I took 1 star off of the review because of the way the waiter treated us. He was rude and not willing to explain to first-time-comers how the restaurant works.

Daniel Congbalay

Unbelievable meal, well-curated experience and wine list, very knowledgeable staff that provides excellent service while also appearing modest and approachable

Peter van Beek

Amazing food that is well worth the money. I really like how unpretentious it was and the food was amazing.

Zayn Henry

This place never disappoints. They have great dishes for convenient prices, there are no long waits even when the spot is busy.

Doris Eugenio

Delicious, intimate space, small plates. Loved the mushroom dumplings and the tile fish.

Adam Tepper

Cozy but energetic vibe. Food was fabulous and the service was outstanding. 5 *'s for sure!!

Lea voisin

Even though the food is really good, the prices are toooo expensive for the small quantity of food! We took 6 plates for 3 adults and one child and it costed over 200$ and we were still hungry... Good points for the waiters who are really nice!

Ethan Paige

7.5 out of 10. The ambience was definitely a bit lacking. The uncomfortable seating was not charming; instead, it just seemed ill-conceived. Service was solid- I found the server assistants to be more enthusiastic than our waiter. We were expecting more from Estela. It was more like a very good neighborhood restaurant.

Anastasios Kotinas

Too much noise... and not from the music... and too expensive... but excellent food!!!!! Tapas....

Andrew M. North

Amazing staff, and delicious food

Jason Oh

Meh - best describes this jawn

John Currah

Small, brilliantly executed plates. The lamb is out of this world. The price point is a bit higher than other places with similar ambiance in NYC, but the service and preparation are worth it.

ricky chang

Surprisingly very good! Love the ambiance of the restaurant. Sort of hidden as well. The salad is amazing

Bruno Bonvini

Very nice restaurant but didn't satisfied my taste and the front stuff was the worst I have experienced in my 20 years of experience in restaurant business

Oliver Krisch

The food is great and the drinks amazing

Giora Baran

Perfect dishes, so exact and wonderful. Highly recommended

Chet Hardenbroeck

Estela was my friend and my more elevated Sunday brunch choice. I love that they take reservations, making Sunday brunch that much less of a logistical nightmare. The interior is really beautiful, well-designed and hip. The service was incredible as well: I felt really welcome and while I was waiting for my friend, they were polite enough to check in and offer me some water.

Alex Thaboua

Absolutely perfect. Great wine selection. Cocktails made to perfection, detail goes into each drink that the normies can't hope to grasp or understand. They'll just feel the perfection as it hits the palate. The food here is phenomenal, simple, yet interesting with wild combinations of flavor.

Ross Shahinian

Get the black rice! So delicious

Lior Bar

An unbelievable experience, highly recommended. Take the mussels

Laurel Lawson

Technically perfect and innovative dishes with creative flavors. This restaurant is not accessible; up a half flight of stairs at the front door. Once you are inside the restrooms are accessible.

Laura Slabin

Hip yet warm atmosphere. Large and unique wine list. Super tasty food - really enjoyed the oysters, dumplings, and kolhrabhi.

Andrew B

Decent food, some great dishes, some ok but over hyped! Waiter insisted we order 9 dishes not 8 between us, despite ordering their larger and more pricey dishes already. Not surprisingly, we had far too much food. The signature desert was particularly underwhelming.

Sean Sweeney

Amazing. I rarely find food this good in New York.

Karla

Beyond delicious food and ABSOLUTELY the best combination of service that is wonderfully professional but also very warm and approachable!

Ben Lachaut

Super tasty food - really enjoyed the oysters, dumplings, and kolhrabhi

roberta rinaldi

Had a very bad experience because after receiving a confirmation by phone when we did show up at night no table was reserved for us. The general manager could not explain how it could have happened. The only option he proposed was to stay at the bar for one hour or going to another sister restaurant but without offering something special or different treatment cost to recover their fault.

Hugh Jass

Super chill, friendly staff. Great brunch option however not so much fun for people with food allergies. Great wine list and the best damn Jicarita I’ve ever had. Loved the soundtrack to Saturday. Unfortunately the prices didn’t match the quality.

Merhaba Kebab

Found this establishment by googling “Marcus Samuelssons favorite restaurant”. I can totally understand his choice. Wow! The palette of tastes was amazing! Go for the foi-gras. But wait, just order everything on the menu and share! Some really interesting wines as well.

Vanesa Beltrán

Not only their wine selection but the very tasty menu they have. My go-to spot to meet friends and catch up!

Lenur Yusupov

Amazing spot serving tapas style dishes that was brought to the spotlight by 2019 best restaurants week. We had a great dinner with 5-6 dishes split between 2 people. Their wine list also provides some great tastes with reasonable prices. For food we got: Endive with walnuts - fantastic sauce Fried arroz negro - paella like, crispy Lamb ribs - great and very tender Beef tartare - delicate Sea bream - different, but tasty

Aiden Best

I simply liked their dishes. I always get fantastic customer service here. The place is clean and the cashiers are always kind. Will visit here again.

Brianna Covington

The sea bream dish is my absolute favorite on the menu. It is very light and fresh. The burrata and summer squash are amazing as well. Unfortunately I missed out on the ricotta dumplings, but I hear they are divine. Definitely will come back!

Osamah Al-Otay

Last minute reservation few days ahead. I tried the Lamb with honey, Ricotta dumplings and chocolate cake later for dessert. Overall satisfied with the meal and experience.

Lexie MA

Every single dish is delicious and beautifully created! We had the Endive, Mackerel, burrata and bacon. The chocolate cake in the end is so good. Wonderful vibe too.

Samuel Murray

A perfect example of starting with great ingredients and using precise but subtle techniques to elevate them to the next level. The cozy space is often packed, and for good reason, with the food, drinks, and service all being top notch.

Javier Kohen

Everything was well made, tasty, and perfect size to share and try many things. The burratta on toast was a great fusion of texture and flavors; the mackerel was tender and had a crust. I'd pass on the ricotta dumplings next time, they were somewhat bland.

Iubna Dicrus

Good burger, fries and a shake. Always busy, which is a good sign. Love how they have the pickles on the side, so you can put them on your burger. Very conveniently located near my job, so I go there maybe once every few months .Estela

Harrison Phillips

I liked the service and the ambiance. However, when it came to the food, there were clear winners and some losers. I am looking at you summer squash, pull it together. Overall, good birthday experience.

Lauren Schwenker

Fantastic meal warm and welcoming. Will definitely return!

Antonia Alvarez

The menu does not give you a sense of how exquisite the food is. I LOVED the Ricotta dumplings, the Squash blossom salad, the Steak tartare and the Tilefish.

ft reader

I was recommended this place from a colleague living in NYC for ten years and taken to food blogging. The recommendation was a good one. Food was fantastic, service was refined. Pricing slightly high ~$100 per person including drinks. Star of the meal was the pork and yogurt/lemon sorbet for dessert. Main negative was that they only have one toilet for the entire restaurant, which led to a 10 min wait to use the facilities. Even more annoying is that the toilet is in a major thoroughfare with waiters pushing past you when you are waiting.

Nico G

Set above Houston Street, Estela serves Mediterranean-inspired shared plates in a small and lively space. The restaurant with its exposed brick wall feels casual and sophisticated at the same time and the creative food has garnered a lot of attention since the opening. The bar, which is serving cocktails late into every evening, is the best spot for optimal people watching. Trust us.

Krystal Churchwell

The food is amazing! Simple but perfect. It gets really crowded and the space is small so be sure to make reservations!

Kevin Huang

A cozy and well decorated spot. Brunch doesn't have a massive menu but everything we got was delicious. The server was extremely friendly and helpful, giving us suggestions on number of things to order and what his favorites were. Cocktails were good as well. Dish presentation was a little underwhelming but the taste more than made up for it. Overall a great brunch spot.

Stephanie DeDecker

Not sure where to begin, this place is phenomenal and I’d highly recommend going! Despite how small it is, if you are not able to get a seat at a table (reservations are encouraged) the bar is a great place and the staff are very friendly

Petru Brediceanu

Very pleasantly surprised both by the menu and the wine list (do ask for the list of wines by the bottle though) I'd rather call it new Italian than new American. Good service, great vibe, good service and very knowledgeable sommelier.

Matt Niemitz

Fantastic food - one of the best meals I have had in New York City. My wife and I shared 5 dishes all of which were excellent. Good wine list too. A cosy atmosphere but not as loud as other small NYC restaurants.

Victoria Peteri

I totally appreciated this dining establishment, the food is remarkable, as well as the bathrooms were ok. It was a little chilly inside, definatly was not the best. The food serve is awesome as well. I will absolutely consider going back again if I get the opportunity. Me and also my good friend bought the sandwiches and also we were not disappointed. My one pointer is to keep the cool exterior. Come again!

Charlie Nucci

A very great restaurant in a cozy, rustic setting. One of my favorite restaurants in New York. Chef continuously surprises me each time I return and the wine list is wonderful.

Matthew Smith

Really truly loved this place. I'm a fan of shared plates because it allows you to try so many different things and every single dish they brought out was amazing! I just wanted to order everything again as soon as I was done. The service was on spot as well, there's no room on the table amongst all the food for the bottle of wine but our server made sure our glasses never got to empty.

Beta Zed

Awesome service and the food was good.

cl ci

what you ordered. Bradley was a fantastic server. Basically the opposite of the server we had at Estela last week. Bradley was attentive, super friendly & not pushy. We only ordered… read more

Sergio Nieto

Cool place with great food and ok service. The lamb ribs were delicious. The oysters, dumplings and endives were all very good.

David Nelsen

Just impressive. Server was such an advocate of the food. Knowledgable. We happened to mention that the broth with one dish was wonderful and he immediately brought more bread so we could sop up the wonderful. Simple, Complex, Tasty, Very happy meal.

Davide Di Vece

I recommend asking the confirmation of reservation by email or SMS, just to avoid to arrive at the restaurant and they don’t have the table as occurred to me tonight.

Megan Christensen

Limited menu. Intimate space but not intended for a restaurant. Interesting, good food and unique presentation but I don't feel compelled for more. Most certainly NOT top 10 in the city and not a personal favorite. Fun to try but won't be back anytime soon.

Gideon Stryker

Unique, delicious, and rememberable dishes. Difficult to get a reservation, but worth the effort. The Arroz and the clams are musts.

Eliott Levy

A peace haven with delicate food in the busy NoHo/SoHo junction. 7/10 : excellent Everything at Estela is tasteful. The dishes are fresh and excellent, but also most beautiful. The staff and the place are very welcoming and warmhearted. It’s the place I would run to if I needed a peaceful and tasty lunch. One drawback, the portions are very small and you will need quite a few. Recommending the whitefish English muffin and the ricotta dumplings!

Gustavo Mora

Amazing! The burrata is something special.

Sean Pham

Fantastic place for couples. Obama visited here. Very pricey however. Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnntttttttttttttttttttttttttaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssssssssssssttttttttttttttttiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiccccccccccccccccc Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnntttttttttttttttttttttttttaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssssssssssssttttttttttttttttiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiccccccccccccccccc Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnntttttttttttttttttttttttttaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssssssssssssttttttttttttttttiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiccccccccccccccccc Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnntttttttttttttttttttttttttaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssssssssssssttttttttttttttttiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiccccccccccccccccc

Amy Morman

Black rice with romesco!! Love this place. Wish we had it in Chicago.

Brod Sandyslumsdaine

Fine place, very comfortable, very tasty food especially their burger, reasonable price, amazing kitchen team!

Leon Lin

Estela was good food at a decent price point, particularly for a tasting menu. Portion size was small though. Liked the sandwich and the lamb rib dish, though could have used larger servings. Other courses were all decent. Casual atmosphere in the restaurant.

Alli Bautista

This was our choice date night dinner spot if we wanted to celebrate something special. Love the atmosphere and decor, service was always good, food is always great, and the location made it ideal to walk around post-meal on a night out. We love Estela!

Mike

Truffles everywhere. Get a new gimmick, Estela.

Yamen Sader

Adventurous and creative within a “safe” style of Mediterranean tapas. The ricotta dumplings are sensational but really hard to go wrong. Our servers were very knowledgeable and you won’t go wrong listening to their recommendations.

Bob Dillon

Amazing family style food.

philippe meyersohn

Great food, ambience and service. My preferred dish was the mushroom gnocchi. Very subtle favors. Burrata was also delicious. Ask for the bread ... one of the best rustic bread I had in the city ... and I am french! The only regret: wish food looked as great as it tastes. But better that then the reverse :)

juan jose ferreiro

When in NYC, this is my first stop. The chefs do one of the best food in the city, flavors that you did not know they existed. The ambiance its terrific, front of house will do everything possible in order to make your visit a true experience. Please do ask for wine recommendations, they know exactly what to give you! The steak tartare its my favorite in the city, and mussel toast will make you order another one! Ricotta dumplings will melt in your mouth!

Seri Takishima

I love this place. Especially the salad with endive and walnuts is awesome. Good wines. Good vibes.

Erica Chan

Beautiful inventive and delicious food. Lamb rib is a must. Please get the table in the wine display nook - you will be dinning under the skylight, with a group of 6 it will be like a semi private room.

Rafael Yau

Great atmosphere, amazing food and staffs are friendly and helpful. What more else can you ask for. I recommend trying the beef tartare and the ricotta dumplings. The price for this restaurant is on the high end but worth every penny. Overall great concept and food.

Andrew Quirk

The Egg, Pancetta, Avocado, and Danish pastry (tebirke) breakfast sandwich was excellent

Dana Westermark

Ok, trust me, it really is there. The signage is up on the second floor where the restaurant is. You enter through the door shared with the residential unit above. Very creative small plates for sharing, good wine and beer selection and friendly, informative service. Worth seeking out this somewhat hidden spot.

Joël Schillio

Great food. Great people.

Mark Sherry

Cozy up to the bar and have yourself an exquisite meal. Memorable!

Ava Wu

The combination of ingredients made all the dishes very interesting, like the scallop with sea urchin and dates, fried rice with octopus etc not to mention all the dishes are plates beautifully. The restaurant gets very lively after 6!

Nita Stefanie

The food is sooooo delicious. Best beef tartare and mussel that I ever had. Will definitely be back!

David Grodman

Awesome bar with eccentric foods.

Bob Becker

Excellent! Highly recommended.

Stasia Arts

Will come back here every time I come to NYC.

robert beekintiong

Walking up to the restaurant you will find a daily menu posted outside which I find absolutely wonderful as it gives you a sense that they like to work with seasonal ingredients which is always a breath of fresh air! Walking into Estela it feels warms and welcoming almost a at home vibe. It's fairly dim lighted so it perk you up if you're going in the morning which I can appreciate. The wait staff is accommodating a little slow perhaps but still attentive as you won't have to wave them down. The food is worth the wait and definitely worth the price, that's the main thing to be happy about when it comes to Estela you will never leave feeling you had a bad meal.

Andres Uribe

You can't go wrong here. Seriously I've tried most plates. Everything is delicious. They have a sharing mostly menu, which males it great for small roups. Better make sure all your group has the same tastes! Your only as strong as your weakest link. Reservations are highly suggested here. Very cozy and friendly staff.

Jon Pham

The endive dish was fantastic. Beef tartare was good. Arroz negro tasted pretty fried. Like that’s all I could taste was rice that had been fried up. Had a nice texture but maybe borderline burnt. Mixed reviews on the lamb. Drinks and wine were pretty good. Service was good. Loud and busy, sometimes chaotic but a decent meal overall.

Matthew Lowery

super tasty. service is typically above par. feeling here is similar to a place in columbus i liked.

Ross Smith

Went here with cousins. President Obama went here. Dan likes. Said Get mushroom ravioli. White fish.

Paul Lee

Excellent small plate dining. Drinks are fantastic. Prices very high.

Leonardo Rivera

Wonderful diner, creative chef

Jana Borer

Everything is always delicious. The burrata and steak tartar are must orders. We tried the lamb ribs which we instantly wanted to order more of. The steak (through the many seasonal variations) is never disappointing and very flavorful with a lot going on. I have never had a disappointing meal here.

George Camacho

Bad food, small quantities, impolite waiter.

maxximus787

The food here is very creative. Not everything tasted great (I think I ultimately liked only 3/6 dishes), but it was all uniquely prepared and the textures were really interesting. The chocolate cake was my favorite dish. The cocktails and beers were wonderful as well.

Shelly Anin Real Estate

I adore this place so much, the people and food here are the best in the whole world!

adrian morgan

Five stars! Good priced food. Favorite stop on our way back from the Napa Valley. Great food and service .Thanks guys!

Alyson Brown

One of the most delicious breakfast sandwiches I've ever had and their bloody marys?! The best in the city!

Ye Eun Jeong

Apparently the Obamas ate here on a date. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and drinks. Cozy atmosphere, creative dishes. But somewhat follows the fashionable, hip, New American stuff you see at other hip New American restaurants.

Robert Hollis

Very cozy spot with excellent wines. The food was not my favorite but my wife loved it, so what do I know?

Yuqiong Zhou

We had a brunch at Estela, ordered three small dishes and a cocktail. Pictured items are lamb ribs and blood ale sandwich. The dishes were well made and display was pretty, although portions were a bit small and overall a bit pricey.

Ryan Glass

Fantastic experience! Food was so good that we ended up ordering a second serving of some items. Perfect for a party of four friends.

jessie gagnon

Great small space, when you enter at first it seems too tiny and loud. However the service is exceptionnally good and they make you comfortable. The wines by the glass were amazing and the food was out of this world! I strongly recommand the beef tartare, which was one of my favorite there, and i had tasted a lot in my life ;) It was a bit pricey i have to say, but it was a really great experience to try at least once.

Kyle Mascarenhas

I was very much looking forward to dining here as I read much fanfare about the food and cocktails. The place is quite small, but the service was admirable. Unfortunately that was the best part(s) of the experience. We had ordered the steak tartare, which was average at best, used the same type of bread for the Burrata which did not pair well. The only notable dish was the fried rice and the cocktails were quite pedestrian, certainly not worth the price.

Mark Leung

We arrived at 8 and the restaurant was really packed so the restaurant was quite noisy. Food is hit or miss. You can find better restaurant for that price.

Douglas Geneen

Food is excellent and had Fred as a waiter.. fantastic service and he knows his stuff!

Melchior du Boullay

Good for sharing plates. Only 4 stars since it is too noisy.

Omni Vore

Excellent in every possible way. Plates were on the smaller size but every bite tasted like heaven! Service was exceptional. That same day, we had lunch at ButterNY and was very disappointed!!! Dining at Estela redeemed the NY dining experience.

Andrea Mellalieu

We came to NYC on holiday, and chose *one* restaurant for a truly spectacular splurge. We chose Estela and had an amazing time. Everything about this meal was perfect: the food was incredible, the service at every level was flawless (kind, friendly, knowledgeable) and the timing was just right. We ordered 7 dishes for our family of 3, plus dessert - it was the right amount. The menu doesn't do their dishes justice - I think you could write an entire paragraph trying to describe the flavours of each dish! Estela is so perfect and understated - the food and service just speaks for itself! This was truly one of the most memorable meals we have had and we can't recommend it enough. p.s. our 12 year old son was 100% welcome, and there was no dress code. Thank you Estela! xo!

Camelia Quek

Aside from being so cramped in the restaurant, food and service were excellent.

Ann Rose San Diego

Really enjoyed every plate in this place. Great and very attention-orientated staff. A very well researched wine list for everyone. Still dream of that burrata plate.

Joshua South

In summary, Estela is a cosy local restaurant with a great atmosphere, yummy dishes (and a good gluten free selection) and great service. Dishes are tapas style and could probably be described as farm-to-table type fayre, i.e. fresh ingredients served to allow the ingredients to shine. Great organic wine selection too. The removal of one star is due to the restaurant layout - we were on a table for two and so close to the tables either side of us that it was difficult to not overhear conversations and also difficult to actually leave the table!

Alex Rodrigues

Fantastic food, strange service

Peggy M

Simply Wonderful! I had taken a class with Chef Ignacio at Degustibus several months ago so I knew what to expect: thoughtfully created flavors and fantastic service. If you order the ricotta dumplings with mushrooms, be sure to ask for bread to soak up all the mushroom broth which is just heavenly. The only downside is that it gets very loud about 8pm, so if you prefer a little less effort in speaking with your dining partner, just go early. Really quiet a special meal.

Kosta Demopoulos

Wow. Went for: girlfriend’s dinner! Vibes: great for dinners of 2-4 people. 6 may get tough since most dishes come in fours. Intimate tables close together, dimly lit. Service: genuinely appreciated our servers knowledge of menu and dynamic recommendations based on what we were thinking. Food(in order of favorites): 1) Dumplings - must order. Filling and extraordinarily flavorful. 2) Mussels on toast - so pleasantly surprised. Wasn’t too fishy nor was the mussel flavor compromised. Toast had a perfect crunch. 3) Beef Tartare - very unique! the sunchokes added a subtle yet welcomed crunch! 4) Oysters - great and recommended. They’re already dressed with a migonettte and (I think) shallots. 6 to the order. Delicious. 5) olives - don’t get me wrong, they’re great. But unfair to rank over other plates. 6) Burrata - didn’t do it for me. The sauce it was soaked in didn’t mesh with the consistency of the cheese. Would go back for a special dinner or hosting an out of town couple.

Mary Jane Armstrong

Every dish is well executed. Fantastic wine program and amazing service. Get the mussels escabeche.

Jennifer Wei

Excellent food. Nice ambiance, though maybe a bit low in natural light - if you're looking for a bright and airy space for brunch, this may not be it. Pricier end - expect to pay $50 per person in the end. But definitely worth a try!

Joelle Berner

The food was exquisite, the experience incredible, great service

Tommy Gu

Great service Food was also good, although the fluke&urchin was a bit on the salty side and we had to return it. Otherwise great dining experience. Definitely try the squid ink rice (like a paella) it is divine.

Jim Heck

A truly exceptional dining experience! I’ve been to 3-star Michelin restaurants before, and I can gladly say that this is most worthy of this achievement. Service is excellent. Food (as you can see) is beautifully plated, and has flavours that boggle the mind and inspires. It’s not a cheap dining experience. But if you ever find yourself there, once you experience the food, you’ll quickly forget the cost!

Lizzie Merrill

The food was all really great, but nothing blew me away. Could be that we didn't order the right dishes....both the steak tartare and the dumplings were memorable, the rest was just 'great'. The wine list was really interesting, all lesser-known producers, fun to try new things. It was also incredibly loud, made it hard to talk. I'd still recommend going, but my crazy high expectations weren't really met.

Sarah Macdonald

Everything at Estela is carefully sourced, lovingly created and beautifully plated to please customers. The wines on offer are well curated and can easily be matched to suit your menu choices. The space is classy but still feels down to earth and relaxing. It's perfect for a special dinner or if you just want to feel pampered.

Leandro Caffarena

First I thought it was a mistake cause the place is terrible noisy, it was impossible to speak and the service was poor. But the food makes you forget about these problems. Chef Matos is, without hesitation, a top talent.

Yulia Zamriy

First of all, we ordered 3 appetizers and 5 "main" courses. It was just a bit too much, but we still enjoyed the meal. The food was outstanding! My favorites were Serrano ham (surprisingly the portion was significant in size for an appetizer), black rice with squid, burrata (it was also quite large for a cheese dish), beef tartar (it was so good!). Steak was delicious but not enough for the price... Endive salad was delicious but it was not necessary... too much fat for a vegetable dish. The ambiance was good for a date night: small space, crowded, a bit too loud, but not enough to mess with the conversation, dim lighting to create an illusion of intimacy. Service was friendly and reasonably helpful. Overall, I really liked the place and highly recommend it.

Megan Anderson

Wasn’t sure what to expect when looking at the menu but the four dishes we tried were all delicious. The burrata was amazing and we loved the crunch of the fried black rice with squid - it’s similar to a paella. The lamb was flavorful but also fatty. Tables are squeezed in tight to the small restaurant, but wait staff was pleasant and attentive. All in all, a very good experience.

Rose Liang

Over priced

Elliott Im

Great cozy place for date night with awesome food!

Mariani Kino

The first time we went was for brunch. Certain dishes blew my mind.. Scallop ceviche, burrata in green sauce with croutons on the bottom - my goodness was that good! The mackerel with grapes was the most expensive one and the most disappointing. I’ve never in my life sent a dish back and that time was the closest I got to doing it. The other time we went to Estela was for lunch, and maybe that’s why I was mildly disappointed. Who cares about the lunch crowd, eh? We’ve shared a few things, nothing was notable or at least memorable, but the bill was still pretty high. Left hungry of course. I love small plate concept, I’m ready to overpay for it. But in return the restaurant should deliver. Flavor, quality, experience, what have you. Estela unfortunately did not.

Victoria Ragan

Location great, service great, wine great, but some of the food was weird. I appreciate unique flavors and trying new things, but the dried shrimp reminded me of cat food. The plates are also all tapas, so if there are more than two of you you need to order A LOT to feel satisfied. More vegetarian options would be nice. It was also a bit tight in the restaurant, the tables were quite close together. Overall, recommend!

Christian Faccio

Wow...beautiful sandwiches and beer in top atmosfere!!

Rick Kusch

Expensive and hard to get a reservation but very much worth it. A relatively small place with a trendy crowd, artisanal cocktails and a great wine selection. Easily one of the top 5 meals of my life.

A must to try if you are in Ny

Truly great food. Small tables that lack space. Great cocktails and service. Not cheap.

very welcoming and great ambiance! Came back after two years and I must say it has maintained its quality. A good restaurant is to consistently deliver the same quality food & service whenever you come back. Estela do deliver that quality!

Meredith Montgomery

Sat alone at the bar and had a wonderful time! The bartender was lovely and knowledgeable/helpful about wine and food pairings. I had the celery salad and then the foie with a sparkling cremant.

Jesus Camacho

The avocado sandwich is a must! Cozy place for brunch. Michelle was super helpful.
