This Restaurant is classified in the category of French restaurant.
Always excellent, good service and very busy.
The cheesy biscuits (there’s prob a French name for them) before the meal are worth the price of admission.
Charming spot. Be careful with your soft drinks as they charge by the glass. Wonderful steak frites.
Amazing food. Great atmosphere.
A most friendly and lively dining experience. Good, not great food, but very attentive and welcoming staff. Fairly priced for the neighborhood . I'll be back.
Always love the steak frites and marrow bones. Excellent beer and wine list. One warning... The noise level can get "energetic."
Great place for Brunch !
Where is the 6-star button? If you’re looking for a great food and service, either brunch or dinner, check out this place. We go here often, and enjoy every time.
First time coming here with my husband and our waiter was very nice. I ordered french toast, egg benedict and shakshuka. I was very impressed with the food here it was so delicious. Especially the french toast! I've never had french toast that is so soft and buttery! I really love the shakshuka too with the sausage on top. Definitely, should try out this brunch spot!
Great French food if you around the Upper East side. Great prices and very friendly staff.
The chef has to learn how to make an over easy egg. Also it should be easy to slice through medium rare NY steak which was unexpectedly charcoaled. Service was good while wait times are unreal for the quality of food served.
Good food good service ! Liked the ambience
Excellent food, service. Bot too noisy.
Great service, staff was very welcoming and helpful
A great brunch spot. Highly recommend the souffle. Such a beautiful place.
Our favorite UES brunch spot. Great food quality and service.
Beautiful place, reminds me of the paris cafes. The omelette was large and the croque madame was amazing.
Had the smoked salmon duo excellent
The best French food in the upper east side. You have to fly to France in order to eat an excellant meal. Cafe D'Alsace is just around the corner. Give it a try I guranty you will not be disappointed. Make yourself a great dinner, heart food extra friendly workers. Enjoy your meal.
Wonderful bistro. Sit at the bar, facilitates conversation. The charcuterie board is tasty and a great value.
Visited several times. Choucroute Garni is always great, last time shared three appetizers. Octopus salad was world class and the charcuterie plate with cheese was delicious.
Best neighborhood French bistro/cafe!!
Great brunch, great service
I liked my chicken dinner, my wife didn't like her chicken too much. Mashed potatoes were very yummy. Mixed review.
Love this place. Go pretty often. Knowledgable wait staff, good food, good drinks, nice outdoor space in summer.
Very popular place with vibrant atmosphere. Weekend brunch has modern options with classic flare, complemented by refreshing cocktails. It is a little loud during busy weekend hours, but I think it makes for a lively ambiance.
Great brunch place. Get here before eleven for a table. What I really like is that the food is both good and filling. They don't skimp on the quality or the size. Coffee bar is good. Mocha is the best in the City. Service works hard and does a good job. Great place.
Absolutely Great. One of the best.
Yummy UES brunch spot. Loved the french toast, and the mini terrine of cafe au lait
Great steak frites
Delicious food
Superior service. Excellent food and best wines. Will return many times
Really good French food and fair pricing. Appetizers, main and dessert was more than enough food. Good wine and beer list . Steak frites and skate fish were tasty and good size portions.
Always great. Food superb. Service impecible.
This place was such a pleasant surprise! The location is super nice and simple, but with Alsatian vibes throughout, as well as a really attentive and nice staff. Not only do they have daily specials and a really nice menu - they even have a fixed price menu every day at 50$, that will get you an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert! Can’t beat that, especially if you wanna try a few different things (which is exactly what we did). We started with steak tartare, a tarte, and one of their homemade sausages with sauerkraut. Every single dish was oh so delicious. The steak tartare was really well seasoned and served with toasted slices of baguette and a small salad. Perfect. The tarte flambé - which was basically a flatbread, was topped with fresh veggies and cheese. And my oh my was it scrumptious. The sausage was definitely homemade and super flavorful. We then went onto the entrees, our choices were the risotto with morels and asparagus (which is seasonal), the steak frites - that btw comes with bone marrow, and the chicken with mashed potatoes and veggies. Once again, none of the items disappointed us. The steak was very nicely cooked and flavorful, the fries weren’t the best ever but were pretty good nevertheless. The chicken was nice and juicy, very nicely cooked indeed. We were already pretty full, but you can’t leave without dessert, right? The Creme brûlée was simple but nicely prepared, and served with a small Madeleine. The red berries crumble was fresh and cleansed our palates with the right amount of tartness and sweetness. The piece de resistance was without a doubt the profiteroles - perfect choux pastry filled with ice cream as well as homemade whipped cream, and topped with a delicious dark chocolate sauce. Absolutely heavenly. I will go back without a doubt and I recommend you to make your way to the UES for this really good gem.
Great service & food
Impromptu celebration of life! $$$$ but worth it!
Food is always great. Service is good. Ambiance is perfect for an NYC Brunch....
Amazing French food!
Popped in for a cup of tea and they were most accommodating. Love to sit out on the street and watch the world go by.
What a wonderful brunch! They don't accept reservations for bunch. There was a short wait but we spent it at the bar - not very attentive service there but no complaints once we moved to our table. We had the Artisanal Country Board and the Croque Madame. Both were very filling for two people and delicious! The Vietnamese coffee was good, but very overpriced for a small drink.
The food is okay and so is the ambiance so if you're in the neighborhood this is a good choice. Don't travel to get here though.
Duck a l’orange was perfect so as Tahitian crème brûlé. The server who’s name I sadly forgot was amazing. Selection of wine and beer is impressive.
only NY'ers would call this a neighborhood restaurant - any other city, top french country restaurant plus unique crepe souffle dessert is magic
what a shame that the service is so bad - and not overly crowded 40 minutes to get a second drink and then told no more ingredients for some sort of martini. It was my go to place for clients and friends- my advice- it looks great and crowded but a very uncomfortable experience. Note I never write reviews
Warm atmosphere and great Coffee.
Delicious steak and frittes! Melo atmosphere!
Great Brunch venue
We had a great experience here. The sommelier did a great job helping us pick out a bottle of wine to go with our meal. My wife had the steak frites which she really enjoyed. I had the special, which was a rack of lamb and ate every bit.
Delightful place! Top-notch service; Quick, on-point and caring! Brunch was delicious. We had the eggs Benedict with bistro ham and the croque madam. Both were great. But the real treat here was the crepe soufflé. Besides being plated beautifully, the dish was served at a perfect temperature and was incredibly light and flavorful. Perfect balance of acid from the passion fruit and sweet from the crepe. Not to mention great complimentary beignets! Will definitely be coming back!
Excellent service, steak tartare, mussels and fries. Who could ask for more?
Wonderful place for brunch especially when you're hungry as the portion sizes are pretty big. I love that they have a latte type coffee that comes in this pretty big bowl. It was superb and i always enjoy having coffee with lots of milk at french restaurants because it's always very good. The sausage was very good and a little nostalgic as it really did taste like kielbasa.
Our server was excellent, poised and knowledgeable. They are extremely accommodating. Loved it.
Great place! Food is always on point
A wonderful combination of French and German cuisine. Also, a great list of fine beer. This is way more than a "cafe" and we will be coming back again. A few of our favorite dishes; the sausage and the apple tart.
Old school New York to a T! crazy good french food. Can't wait to go back. Great beer selection but the wine and cider is nothing to sneeze at either. Never knew I'd want to go to the UES so much but the long trek is totally worth it.
The food was not worth the price. Go to Hells Kitchen. You'll get better food for 1/2 the price.
Delicious food and drink Good service. A go-to place for this neighborhood.
great place amazing food and excellent service
great food and service.
Great burger and friendly service!
Good drink selection. Friendly bar tenders. Kitchen closes early
The food and drinks are pretty good, but you're mostly paying for the atmosphere rather than the service or quality. If you're willing to spend extra for ambiance and your largest requirement for a meal is that it's plated beautifully, Café D'Alsace is the brunch spot for you!
This place gets crowded for weekend brunch/lunch but the wait is totally worth it. Large portions and friendly service. The French onion soup here is fabulous. Perfect amount of cheese melted over the side of the bowl.
Great place. They clearly love alsatian cuisine.
Good service and food
Went for dessert only. The profiteroles were very disappointing - pastry too thick. Like having ice cream on a meh tasting hard roll. On the other hand, the warm gateau and the creme brulee we're delicious.
The best french food in NYC
Amazing food. Had the bass and duck. Both were cooked perfectly and the fish was very fresh. Definitely leave room for dessert! The molten hazelnut gateau is a choco lover's dream, but the real star was the perfectly crispy apple tarte.
Very good food, attentive service. Best French fries I've had in ages. Definitely worth a repeat visit.
Fine French Alsatian menu, excellent wine list. Packed with locals, noisy and energetic. Our server was exceptional.
Not so great anymore. I live in the neighborhood, actually just down the block, so I've been going for years. It used to be one of my favorite spots. The extensive beer menu is cool, and the restaurant has a cool vibe. Honestly now I feel like the place is a little bit overpriced for the quality of the food. It's okay, but not great. The restaurant is bustling over the weekends, inside and out, which can make service a bit laggy.
Good food, consistently. Burger fantastic
Brunch was good. Service was ok. Very busy and fun crowd and staff! Love the location and property!
Very nice restaurant for brunch or dinner. Very good food and prices are reasonable
It's a nice casual place to have brunch on the weekends. If you have a small party, the wait isn't too long to be seated outside. The staff is attentive and food is good. The pear mimosa is tasty. I also tried the lychee, it isn't bad, but the pear is much better. I had their Belgian waffle with strawberries, it was good. I was pretty stuffed after eating their house breads. They have a basket of different breads given to you while you wait for your food. They were pretty good, try not to indulge in so much; otherwise you'll be stuffed by the time you eat your food. I liked the casual vibe and the crowd is a mix of locals and just a few out of towners. I will come back again.
RECOMMENDED DISHES Goat cheese tart; warm potato salad; duck, seafood and boudin blanc sausages; smoked seafood platter; marrow bones; smoked salmon; choucroute garnie; baeckeoffe; chocolate tart; apple tart. WINE LIST International and commendably varied, with many notably economical selections. But the emphasis is on a list of more than 110 beers.
Food is delicious, love the escargots and scallops!!
The atmosphere is relaxed and the device was great. The food was decedent. The wine list is extensive.
The steak was overdone and very chewy. It’s sauce was not good, having a bitter taste!
My boyfriend and I initially went because of their craft beer list. They had Alchemist Heady Topper available and what looked like a great brunch menu, so we definitely could not pass that up! I was pleasantly surprised with their food. My pear crepes were absolutely delicious. My boyfriend ordered the steak tartare and that was really good as well. However, aside from the beer, our favorite part was the bread. I know, it sounds silly but they brought out this almond bread bun and my god, it was so delicious! I didn't finish my food but the bread and beer was worth it. I'll definitely be returning.
A great brunch spot. Anything on the menu is delicious. I had the French toast today and it was great. I wish they gave MORE syrup! The cafe au lait is also on point.
The sausages - all six varieties - were very worth getting as an appetizer, if you have enough people. They come with mashed potatoes, spaetzle and homemade sauerkraut... So don't over-plan with other apps, and even entrées might need to be considered if going this route. Keep an eye open for the cassoulet; is seasonal, which even with the plunging temperatures doesn't mean "December", apparently ;)
Amazing food! Best French experience in America, hands down.
We went here for breakfast on a random Sunday morning. The wait period increased our expectations as we begun to see plates of shakshuka, waffles and French toast pass —all looking undoubtedly delicious. - The food: Incredible, nothin less than the best. I highly recommend getting the waffle or considering he shakshuka with sausage plate (although small) - The service: exceptional waiters, but unwelcoming host staff. - The atmosphere: crowded, crammed, but also cozy and warm.
We normally love this place but they forgot about us the last time we went. Our burger was overcooked and though they did redo it, it took longer than it was worth. And our drinks came as if they also were forgotten. Very pricey for slow service. I'll admit though, the food was excellent.
Came here for breakfast m it was really good. Not too busy and was able to get a table immediately. Everything ordered came out really quick too. But nothing was rushed. The omlette Lorraine I ordered had nice thick pieces of bacon and lots of cheese. The potatoes were just a tiny bit on the saltier side but were a perfect side. The whole dish was delicious. They gave complementary bread which was really soft and tasty too.
Exactly what you'd want when looking for good food, wine list and an affordable (!) meal. This is a really good French bistro.
Very nice brunch spot if you want to have outdoor seating on a nice summer day. Great Bloody Mary's; food is a little bit on the oily side and on the heavy side, if you want to eat light this is not the place for you, otherwise it's absolutely delicious.
Since I live in the neighborhood I go to this restaurant quite often and I like to take out. I think it's a really wonderful place especially at lunch time it's very calming the service is pretty good but the food is fantastic. One of the things that I like best about this restaurant is that if there are certain things that I don't want to have on my plate they are very accommodating in changing it up for me and I really appreciate that.
UPDATED REVIEW: It has been a year since I visited this humble, delicious corner restaurant in Manhattan. I must say, they only upped the game with their menu change. I was very impressed with the variety inthe drink menu. The waiter was very educated in proper wines and pairing recommendations. I paired the Gigondas (2013) with the lamb, and I must say that this pairing IS a must! This was the first restaurant I visited when I came to New York, and it will continue to be so every time I visit. Excellent and attentive service, excellent food and drink (previous review) Three course meal stretched the bounds of my palate. No need for extra seasonings or sauces. The food provided ample flavor and variety. Service was fairly good despite the cramped table style.
Shakshuka was nice. My friends who ordered Eggs Benedict got it overcooked. They replaced it for all 4 of them. We had to ask more buns like 5 times. Was my first time there heard it's not like that always from my friends. Hope that's true.
Very expensive but the food is to die for
This has always been my go to on the Upper East. Great spot to relax after museum hopping. Absolutely the best meat and cheese board I've ever seen, loaded with quality French products. Specialty sausages a great and tasty value. Duck peppercorn sausage a must try! #eatoutside #datenight #frenchcheese #goodwineandbeerlist
Nice ambiance and good menu and service
It's a cafe. Food was decent.
Fantastic meal. Had the special wild mushroom ravioli, Duck and just about every desert with my group of 8. Everyone raved about the food including the burger. Table was ready for an 7pm sunday night right on time. Service was great as well. We will be back
Sat outside. Attentive service. Great beer selection tending toward sours, and including several vintage geuze's. Sausages and backoeffe were both excellent, as was blueberry tart. Putting this place into the rotation!
Service was disappointing. We ordered a bottle of wine that was shown to us then taken back to the bar to open where the somolier pour himself the first taste. Not how its done. Scallops were undercooked and tasteless. Overpriced and unimpressive. First time there, and will never go back.
I dined at Café D'Alsace with my wife on Sunday, June 30, 2019. Both of us came down with food poisoning the following day. I called the restaurant to inform management of the situation and no follow-up. Not sure if they don't care, or don't want to take the time to take care of loyal customers that get sick from their food.
One of the rolls in their brunch bread basket was amazing.
This place is booked solid on a Saturday night so I recommend making a reservation in advance. The staff was attentive and accommodating. They have a comprehensive wine and beer list, but the entrees were absolutely incredible. We ordered the duck confit & wild mushroom risotto and the herbed goat cheese gnocchi. The gnocchi melted in your mouth, the goat cheese was perfectly melted and browned, and it was served piping hot. We would definitely go back.
Great food! It was too crowded and to loud when I come inside. Can't barely hear each other with the loud music. The guy (host) is not that pleasant. I enjoyed my meal though!
I love the mussels with bacon and French fries on the side
Great, cozy atmosphere! Great food at decent prices! Service was good!
Great food, wonderful service and cozy French bistro style.
A bit loud, but good food.
Has terrific German - French food. Both seafood and meat are delicious. Try the mussels! Or the steak frites. Wines are very good. Beers are likewise. They have a good whiskey collection at the bar. Prices are fair. Service is good. Gets busy, so make a reservation.
Our to go place for french taste The chef is always the one you should leave the choice with The balance of the food is very well Liquor menu is endless If you need help with pairing, no problem , sommelier will be right with you
We had a truly excellent meal here. I had not been here in years and the food and service (though always good) is markedly improved. The food was superb and excellently prepared and the service was outstanding. The menu is a bit pricey but worth it. If you are an oenophile the wine list here is extensive.
My goto place in the UES. Always great food & service!!
Bone marrow was great apetizer!!!
Really great sausages - they have all these types to choose from. Everyone liked the extensive wine list from the region - thought out menu. Fries looked out of this world. Waiter was friendly and fun. Beautiful ambiance, and outdoor tables looked especially nice. coming back.
We came Saturday around 7:30 pm and couldn’t get a table without reservation. We sat on the bar but I am glad we did. The bartender was beyond expectations!! Super knowledgeable about all food and wines he has. I was little annoying that day but he suggested me exactly what I wanted by a little hints and was nice and polite. Out of food didn’t try much but octopus salad was pretty good, amazing apple tart and cheese plate looks very good.
Delicious food!
Can't give a review of the food, but I can say that in all my years of eating in NYC, I have never been to an establishment that refused to tell you how long that wait would be. We decided to eat elsewhere. Much better option.
Great food. Great beer selection.
Delicious food!! A restaurant to visit on a next tRip to NY
Great staff, food, drinks and ambiance. Highly recommend the souffle! It does get VERY crowded on weekends around brunch time though, especially when it's winter and the outdoor section is closed. Recommend booking ahead in that case.
Amazing French food. Best Frizze Lardon in NYC
Great brunch! Original menu items and great people watching spot if you sit outside. Brunch drinks are pretty average in price. Service is great, friendly waiters and quick service. I've been here a few times already and will be back many more. I have yet to try their dinner menu items but I'll update my review with details once I do.
I enjoyed it. Delicious food in a warmly-lit, lively atmosphere.
Drool-worthy food, friendly service, and great beverages!
Very yummy and solid service. Would come again.
Good restaurant with a varied menu with a wide selection, though the food prices are slightly too high for the quality of food served (IMO). Our server was quick with the water, but occasionally aloof. The atmosphere was good, but in an effort to embrace the cooler weather, the restaurant had opened its doors and windows, but there isn't much ventilation in the back of the restaurant, which left us hot and stuffy.
Excellent, authentic Alsatian food in generous portions. I really hope that the success of Café d'Alsace doesn't lead them to compromise their high quality ingredients. Easily one of the very best brunch options in NYC
Such a beautiful musuem and very easy to go through.
High quality food but dinner is horrible for vegetarians. Great for brunch, but crowded usually. Always tasty.
Lovely bistro-like restaurant with delicious brunch and multiple options. The place itself is very reminiscent to the bistros I've visited in France. The brunch we shared was exceptional (French toast, Ham & Comte Croissant) and was served expeditiously and hot. We also enjoyed cocktails (ginger royale and a mint spritz) that were refreshing and paired perfectly with the meals. The service was good, although one of our guest's drinks (prosecco) was forgotten about and we had to inquire about it later on. We enjoyed our time at the restaurant and would definitely visit again, for brunch or to try their lunch or dinner.
One of the best places for brunch in the area. The food is really good, I've tried the Benedict and the Shakshouka and they were amazing. Really good service! I've been there over the weekend and the wait wasn't that bad so I'd definitely recommend this place!
Love it for brunch, the crab omelette, French toast is a must
Great place for an outside latte!!! When weather's good, of course. Dinner hours inside though are too noisy for the Aged and Infirm (anyone over 50)? Wish I knew how to regulate the din? Carpet or acoustic muffling?
If weather is nice, brunch outdoors is great.
Fast service and fun outside seating.
While staying in the upper east side we needed a lunch spot....researched online and found this restaurant so decided to try. WOW....perfect place. Everything worked...ambience, service, location, and the food. The food was excellent. Small French bistro with great food, great service....pleasant and nice selection with indoor and outdoor seating. Some of us had brunch and some had lunch and we all loved our choices. Would recommend and next time in MYC hope to go back.
Has terrific German - French food. Both seafood and meat are delicious. Try the mussels! Or the steak frites. Wines are very good. Beers are likewise. They have a good whiskey collection at the bar. Prices are fair. Service is good. Gets busy, so make a reservation.
Love everything about this place... The food, the atmosphere, and the service are all incredible. Highly, highly recommend.
I constantly come by purchasing some food in here. I liked the quick service and well cooked dishes. Never disappointing.
Great Eggs Benedict with Salmon
I constantly arrive purchasing some food in here. I liked the speedy service and well made food. 5 stars.
Great service, good food and bistro atmosphere.
Strawberry Belgian waffle. Just delicious. Great coffee. Wonderful place for brunch.
Great ambience, great food, and great service. I was recommended to check this place out and it lived up to expectations. The Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict was made very well done (one of the best I've had). The Omelette Maison was surprisingly quite flavourful and delicious as well. Great spot for brunch if you're in the upper east.
Great food! The service is very good.
Great comfort food with a wide selection of dishes to choose from. Service was fairly attentive and courteous. The only drawback was the seating seemed a bit 'rickety'. The chair I sat on was a bit wobbly, the table looked like it had seen better days.
This restaurant is amazing. I come here pretty often. Not 5 just bc one time I came there was a bad smell from outside. Nothing the restaurant can control. Amazing restaurant again! Keep up the amazing work.
My family has come here for big festive dinners a couple years in a row. The service and food has Always been fantastic.
Place offers good service and good food. Although the steak from their steak and eggs is hard to eat I don't think is a good quality meat. Other than that the other plates I've tried were good
Cosy place with very friendly staff and delicious food.
Lovely Ambience. Very good service. No music, thank God. Excellent place to have cosmopolitan's. Plus you can drink and eat outside.
One of my favorite restaurants in New York. The beer list is second-to-none, with classic French food cooked up magnificently.
Delicious & pricey treat. Huge portions for French food. More like Midwest sized plates.
Great service and salad. But the vegetarian gnocchi dish was really disappointing. The gnocchi tasted waterlogged and I couldn't eat it. My friend ordered scallop risotto and loved it, so I think I just had bad luck with that dish.
Love this place. Was here the last time for brunch with a friend when visiting NYC so when a friend asked where to for brunch last week, this is what came to mind automatically.. the food is great, staff is friendly. The very tiny bit I don't like is the menu can get a bit divided. I mean shakshuka and Vietnamese coffee in French restaurant? Would be great if they nailed it but my friends shakshuka was an overload of tomato. Hard to find another complaint though
Comfortable setting. Cheerful service and well prepared, good quality bistro food. An excellently stocked bar. The Shakshuka for breakfast is outstanding.
Food was just okay. Having lived in France for many years I was not blown away, but it is okay if you just want a taste of France. I also found it a bit noisy as o was meeting a friend and was in the mood of some nice conversation to catch up....
Accidentally came here twice. Ha. Once for restraunt week and again recently for group brunch. Good French style food. Everything I've had was quite hearty.
Great burger
