REVIEWS OF Cafe Centro IN New York

John Fontana

I expected something much less, but what a wonderful dinner, super service, great food and a big fireplace to boot. I would eat here regularly when I come to NYC, and happily. Scallops were as good as we get in the Low Country, and we had a business group that had privacy and a great time.

Delicious food and beautiful decor that blends the classic with the modern. A great place for a romantic dinner out.

Jon Forster

Distinctively mediocre. From the tasteless escargot to the lobster bisque to the crab cake that was overly salty and lacking in crab, this was one of the most disappointing meals I have had in a long time.

Dion Walkup

Delicious food well prepared dishes and very friendly staff

Mealifer Lew

Their French Onion Soup is to die for!!

Excellent for Breakfast. Lunch/Dinner 4****. Central location for a midtown breakfast meeting. Food/Service exactly what you are expecting.

Albert Macchioni

Cafe Centro is my go-to lunch spot for clients and friends. While it's busy at lunch, it's never deafening and the food is dependable and occasionally inspired. For a more casual meal or to eat solo, try the Beer Bar which becomes a popular after-work scene.

Forrest Harrison

Great food, very friendly employees, consistently fantastic atmosphere. They charge affordable pricing and the food quality is excellent. Keep it up.

Violet R.

Food and service were fabulous, even though the service can be a bit slow, we enjoyed sitting there for a couple of hours and taking in the atmosphere on a cold winter night. Also loved that it wasn't crowded and that their space is large and comfortable. Everything we had was great, from the appetizers to the drinks. The oysters were excellent, just as good as my favorite places in Maine! I was impressed! Love that they're located right by Grand Central so that we could hop on the train to head home when we were done visiting. And I think the prices were in line with what you would expect at a fine restaurant in NYC. Another HUGE plus was that we didn't have to wait for a table. All the other places we had stopped at nearby were booked, small and crowded (to be expected on a Saturday night) in NYC!

Dave Fan

Nice fireplace by the entrance, Damian was helpful getting our large group situated on short notice.

I'm not really a cafe centro fan. It's a cool space but incredibly slow and the food is mediocre. Eat on the patio if you go.

Solid bistro-style cooking, nothing special especially compared with the many varied options in Midtown much less Manhattan as a whole.

Good for a quick lunch date. Food was okay. Creme Brûlée was great though

Daniel Au Yeung

Super packed and overly noisy during lunch on business days. The dining room is much more serene at nights and on Saturdays. The French fare is always well-prepared and done to perfection like a fine tuned machine. Service is neither too fast nor too slow. They pace it just right so that you can enjoy your meal and your company. Cafe Centro never disappoints and I have been coming here for over a decade! My go-to spot because I know what to expect, which is a great meal and peaceful dining experience... because we go at nights.

Delicious in a central location. Definitely busy during lunch rush & staff handles it beautifully! Get the seafood platter omg. Loved the scallops. Will be back for that risotto!

This is a big place with both an outdoor bar where the business types go to get drinks after work and that part gets loud. There's also an outdoor section for people wanting to properly eat a sit down meal, so it's great that it accommodates all types. Perfect location next to Grand Central. The food is delicious. I took advantage of their "french restaurant week," and it was delicious. I had salmon that literally melted as my entree. Very attentive service. I would definitely come here regularly whenever I'm in the City.

Lindsey Thompson

My business partner and I eat lunch here regularly. Great service! Excellent French bistro food!

JoAnn Bullard

Had Dinner with a friend on Thursday May 10, 2018. Ambiance was great, service was great, and food was good, with the exception of the French fries they were too well done. Would have given 5 stars otherwise.

Jose Monteiro

The risotto was just ok.

John Weaver

The food here continues to be a gastronomical delight. Nestled where it is in the MetLife Building one wouldn't perhaps expect such culinary wonders. For the price this is a cool inexpensive trip to Paris.

Rami Bahar

Great restaurant near Grand Central in Manhattan

Charles Denholm

Excellent bistro cusine. Attention to detail

Jennifer Lee Donaker

Beer bar is a great after-work scene. As for the restaurant itself, the food is good but pretty average considering all the great restaurants in NYC. With that said, you won't be disappointed but it won't make your all time favorite restaurants. My lunch favorite is the lobster club sandwich. Pretty big chunks of lobster.

Boris P.

Excellent time. Had a business lunch and the setting and atmosphere is delightful. I had the chicken milanese and it was great. Large piece of chicken, breaded with arugula with sum lite dressing. Totally amazing but couldnt take picture of food. Attorney had the salmon and he said it was great too. 3 lunch entrees and it ran about 100dls. Pricey but great experience.

went there for an after work dinner. service was reasonable however the place was not that busy. servings for both appetizer and main were pretty small. needed to order some fries and finish the baguette to fill me up. reasonably priced. average with nothing special to talk about.

Frank DeLigio

Wonderful food. Lovely atmosphere. Best French bread ever.

Good food and great service. The Italian mojito is a nice twist to a refreshing drink.

Good value for the money. Nice place to meet friends before they get on the train

11/3/14- lunch w Evan- Nice menu very good food very convenient location near Grand Central

Karen DelPrete

We had the Salad Nicoise . The Tuna was way overdone and looked like it had been boiled. The presentation was awful, just a few string beans, hard boiled eggs and some white strips which may or may not have been anchovies, no taste. Have no desire to return and certainly not to bring another client. Bread was delicious.

Cheryl Tuttle

Resting on its laurels. Breakfast is probably the best mean.

Nicolas Robert

Good place for a quick breakfast meeting when coming into grand central for the day.

Good Lunch spot with your co-workers or clients. The staffs are friendly and very professional. I have also visited this place for happy hour. Great drink selection and the bartender was very attentive.

Food is good, and service is fine, but not when you first arrive to get a table. I have now been at Cafe Centro 5 times, and each time the staff member at the front desk (male and female) never looked at me when I asked for a table (too busy looking at the screen with the reservations). Management might wish to train their staff and explain that the 'basics' of customer service include acknowledging customers and looking at them in the eyes when they first arrive and wish to eat at the restaurant. Multi-tasking (in this particular situation) is possible (!) and moving away from technology for a few seconds is also possible (!). 5 times in a row... very disappointing.

Rob Grubman

Brendan

Poor service. Food was really undercooked. One member of my party threw up because of the uncooked chicken. Then servers were slow and skipped our table plenty of times. Then the desert which cost a lot ended up being crap brownies that were made in a muffin pan with tasteless whip cream on top. Overall I was very unsatisfied. And I wish I went elsewhere.

Tom Moncho

Good food, and nice outdoor area.

Misha Votruba

Carol Bassin

Disappointing! Niçoise salad was 98 percent lettuce and the tuna was like rubber! Was on a business lunch so I did not complain. Waiter was clearly perturbed that we only ordered entrees and water. Good location for a mid town business lunch but will find another location. Too bad!!!

I hosted a business dinner here in the private room and recommend it unreservedly. The staff went above and beyond for our group, and everyone left with smiles. The food was very good and I felt the price was certainly fair for such a conveniently located spot (which is a concern as we keep to a strict budget). There is a varied set of menus to choose from, and they accommodated special requests with ease. If you organize business dinners, you should definitely look into Cafe Centro.

Michael Witbrock

I was in a rush and they got me a three course lunch within half an hour. The octopus was very nice. The duck confit somewhat disappointing. The pot au crème was good. The mini baguettes for bread were really quite good. I'd go again for a more relaxed meal.
