I just absolutely love this place I take my son every week! I take my friends my family when in town. Food is great! There's vegan options games are cheap. Great selection of drinks.

Gayathri Sriram

Visited this place for birthday! And fell in love with this place immediately! We started with mocktail which were incredible! And went on with dim sum platter which was okay! Lobster rice was okay too as there was no flavor! The rock shrimp was too salty.. I would recommend this place for it's beautiful interiors!

Tal Edelman

Beautiful place, good vibes, good looking people, friendly and professional service. And the food was very good, dumplings were just perfect. Other dishes were very good as well. Definitely a place to come back to

Fredrik Klang

Loved it. The atmosphere, the service and the food. We choose 7 different dishes to split among the three of us and it was perfectly. Its on the upper price level, but would definitely recommend it.

I wish I could give this restaurant no stars but I’ll give them 1 star for the ambience. First let me start by saying that I made a reservation at 5pm for 8:30pm reservation FOR MY BIRTHDAY. I arrived with my boyfriend at 8:20 as we arrived one of the assistant managers Nada told me that they were still seating the 8 o’clock reservations and that she knew it was my birthday celebration and then asked if it’s ok to wait by the bar area where everyone normally waits to get seated at their tables. We ordered two glasses of wine and started making conversation with my boyfriend. At 9pm I went back to Nada and she gave me another excuse with OH WE ARE SORRY BUT WE ARE NOW ON OUR 8:15pm RESERVATIONS AND YOU HAVE 4 COUPLES AHEAD OF YOU. I went back to my boyfriend to deliver the message but starting to get annoyed. Then returning back to the bar the guy who was serving me was a Spanish guy but the Asian bartender was making jokes about me elbowing the bartender serving me and telling him jokes in his ear about me and telling him BRO YOUR GIRLFRIEND IS BACK!! HOW DARE YOU DISRESPECT ME AND MY BOYFRIEND TO OUR FACE and make me feel like I was less than you. THE NERVE OF THIS ASIAN BARTENDER. I myself would’ve done something beyond disrespectful and throw him my drink but I asked to speak with the manager. They brought me NADA but she was already annoying me with the excuses so I requested another manager and that’s when Martin arrived. I explained to him the situation and he did NOT care about it AT ALL. He just gave me a BS excuse and walked away. Situations like this SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN AND PEOPLE LIKE THAT ASIAN BARTENDER SHOULDN’T WORK IN RESTAURANTS IN NYC KNOWING THEY ARE THEIR TO RESPECT AND SERVE US. I carry myself very conservative and well mannered. I WONT EVER BE GOING TO THIS PLACE. So Mark then came to me and said my table was ready at 10:15pm when the restaurant was almost empty I am one to not like eating after 9pm because of my gastro reflect issues with my stomach. This was seriously so unprofessional and disgusting and disrespectful for me to be treated this way. I almost started crying but didn’t want my boyfriend to know why I was sad and upset. I will NEVER return to this place ever again by the way the food was not worth the money. I ordered the lobster and shrimp noodles it wasn’t all that it looked like a plate worth 15.00 from your corner Chinese restaurant. The wine was good and the tuna rolls were good as well. My boyfriend then told the waitress it was my birthday and she brought out a little treat which I wasn’t in the mood because of the way they treated me. Two hours passed and I was the bathroom with stomach pain and nausea due to my gastro reflect issues all because of their dishonesty and preferences. Sadly I liked this place so much BUT I WONT EVER RETURN TO THIS PLACE AGAIN.

Worth the money! Amazing food! Amazing time! Quite the treat

Alex Doman

Terrible vibe. Starr restaurants gets it wrong. Too loud and dodgy crowd. Slow service. Thought this sort place went out of fashion in the 00s. Shame.

BKyle Cooper

Beautiful restaurant with creative and flavorful foods. This is a great place for a nice date or celebration. The general tso and oxtail dumplings were incredible.

Elizabeth Cooper

To be honest, I had higher expectations for this restaurant! The restaurant atmosphere wasnt the one that I expected! It was very dark and not cozy at all! The food itself was good! We tried cauliflower lollipops and hot shrims and they were delicious and fresh! We also tried their ribs and they were fresh and good, but nothing to remember! The service was on point, but overall the restaurant didn't live up to their high prices!

SM Tan

I went to this place for a business dinner. It was pretty good! Lovely decor and dimly lit, and it was huge inside. There's an upstairs and a downstairs. The food is best described as modern Asian. We had a large sampling of different dishes and they were almost all uniformly delicious. I'd definitely recommend!

TheRealDave Henke

Food was decent. Music was so loud we had to scream at the table just to have a conversation. Had to scream at the waiter to order food, and he got the order wrong. It was so dark we had to use flashlights to see the menu.

Rebecca Greene

Such a great restaurant. The food and staff are top-notch! Ideal for big groups. Look for John if you stop by. He is amazing. Thanks for the sauce <3

Kelly Colens

Come to Buddakan if you are looking for upscale Asian food! The ambiance here reminds me of Hogwarts because of the high ceiling, dimmed lights, lengthy stairs, and vintage chandeliers. There is plenty of seating and long banquet tables for those with big parties. Buddakan is ideal for dates and group dinner celebrations because the entree portions here are pretty generous which is great for sharing family style! If you come here, definitely get the sea bass. It was delicious!

Amanda Smith

Place is awesome, food and atmosphere...check em’ out!

Nicholas Mrnarevic

I celebrated my 40th birthday here with 9 of my friends and every single one of us enjoyed it. We had the tasting menu, every dish that came out was outrageous. Our waiter was incredibly attentive the drinks we ordered were all made perfectly and delicious. At the end of the meal they brought out a mix of desserts and the carrot cake really blew me away. We love this restaurant we will definitely be back again soon !

Ade_nik3 Aiyedun

NEVER GO THERE ON THE WEEKENDS. The wait time is super crazy. This was my first time going and I was blown away. The atmosphere was great. The service was amazing. The food blew my mind. I loved this place. I will go again. Thank you for the great experience

Irina Matheis

Das beste Restaurant ever! Buddakan is definetly one of the best restaurants I‘ve ever been to. It‘s really pricey but so worth it! All the dishes we’ve tried were just perfect. As a starter I highly recomend Edamame Dim Sum - so so tasty! As already mentioned this place is quite expensive, but it’s an amazing location for a special occaision - we‘ve celebrated my birthday there and would love to come again!

Faye O

Excellent food and service. The servers are very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and the drinks. Highly recommended with a group, that way you can try many different things and they were all so very delicious. The drinks were also fabulous and pairings were on point. At the end of the meal leave room for dessert as it is totally worth it.

John Penix

Cool atmosphere although it's a little too dark. The food was great. It took a while for the drinks to come.

Frederic Tombre

The food was magic and the wine was good. The place is nice and chic. But the music was way to loud even if we asked to turn it down twice.

Xisan Tawhid

I ordered the lobster fried rice. It was trash. No spice, no salt. It was just rice and 7-8 small pieces of lobster. Idk if those are lobster or shrimp pieces. Anyways expected much better from this fancy restaurant. Everyone in the group hated their dishes. Some ordered noodles and it was just full of soya souse. Tasted horrible. 14 people, 10 different dishes. All of them were trashy.

Sophia Ngo

Service was great! I ordered the Peking duck which was overpriced and didn’t taste anything special. Didn’t come with lettuce wrap that it’s traditionally served with. The drinks and dessert was very nice.

Tania Manco

Loved the environment, the service, the tasty food. Recommend

Bettina Maisch

I got here because the brother of my friend is chef here. I had an amazing dinner at food heavan with Asian fusion cuisine. Delicious combination of flavour and texture as well as art on a plate. I had dinner by myself and the staff took wonderfully care of me

laith murad

Fantastic food. The restaurant is big and beautiful.

Kimberly Cohan

My daughter just had her sweet sixteen birthday party at Buddakan, cannot tell you how great everyone from the waiter to the chef went beyond our expectations. Thank you for making this day so special for my daughter. A great shout out goes to Samantha Chin who was the event coordinator. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Dallas Taylor

Outstanding experience. I had a pre fixe meal with a large group. Staff was phenomenal and eager to explain the food. Very fancy, but didn’t feel pretentious. Very fun night!!

Sarthak Ganguly

Great Asian Fusion food. Always crowded. So come with a reservation. Right in Chelsea market. So very convenient location.

Matthias Wesselmann

Once again we had a perfect evening at Buddakan. The food is incredibly delicious, the service is outstanding. Buddakan is one of the best restaurants in NYC. Thank you very much and see you soon.

Lucrezia Fratocchi

Amazing location with music, charming lights and the food and service are delicious.

Bradford Garza

I am so impressed with all the dishes!!! They are so creative with their presentations! Flavors are on point. Bringing the new fusion cuisines to life! Give it a try!!! It was so Amazing that I had it twice in 1 Day!!! A must try!!!!!

Shawn Rafeeq

The food is great. I recommend the Chinese sausage fried rice. The only gripe is that they made me sit at the bar and wait for a table, even though the place was half empty.

Cedain Smith

The food was good, the place is lovely. They have different dinning areas which is great, and also more than enough space between you and the other table, so you don't feel cramp up like other restaurants in the city. They also have a bar area which is very nice. The staff is very good.

Samuel Lefkowicz

The design of the restaurant is great and very nice for everyone. The staff is very nice and the service was great. The food came within 10 minutes after ordering, and the portions are just right. Overall the food is delightful to eat and feels amazing on your taste buds. My personal favorites are the juicy, flavor-filled, perfectly cooked lamb chops, and also the tender, juicy, and amazing ox tail dumplings. Overall it is a great experience for everyone and I believe that anyone will enjoy the food and the atmosphere.

Deena Elemam

My husband and I really enjoyed the food at this restaurant! The place was really nice and the employees were really friendly! I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Seth Grossman

The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and cavernous. And the service was impeccable. The room we were in, the Library, was a little dark and the overall size of the restaurant can sometimes swallow the conversation. But other than that, the entire experience was amazing. All of the food was delicious, and the presentation was artistically and thematically perfection. (Some highlights: the shrimp toast, the carrot dumplings that looked like plump little carrots, and the lamb. Im not usually a big fan of lamb, but the touch if ginger made for the object balance! ) I also enjoyed the signature cocktails; nothing too overpowering, but instead, complementary to the entire dining experience.

Katalin Móricz

The service and staff members are really nice, polite and pay attention to you. The whole atmosphere with the candles and high ceiling just makes you forget that you are in a busy city. We made a joke it feels like in Beauty and the Beast dining and dancing room. And the food is just amazing.

Hema Virani

Outragiously expensive. Had the Chefs tasting menu cost was $250... But every dish that came out which was something like 12 courses was absolutely amazing. They ask you if you have any preferences or if there's something that you would like to avoid or if you are a vegetarian or something that you would prefer.... Then 1 by 1 the dishes come out, The even surprise me with a special drink.. Absolutely fantastic experience and everybody should do it At least once in their life. Waiters were extremely courteous and where no one had to change the table, They were accommodating. Atmosphere was phenomenal

Haywood A. Ware

What amazing place. Foods incredible liked up to its reputation and offered something for everyone.

Bill Bullock

Very cool atmosphere. Great food.

Yvonne Silvester

Fantastic..... Make sure you are seated downstairs in the centre of the main restaurant

Marc Ab

Wonderful, splendid and stunning. Everything about this place is exactly that. The food is so well prepared, you must try their Ribs and the Pepper beef. Shrimp toast is out of this world. The service is impeccable, waiters really know their menu and make some great recommendations. Lots of attention from staff, always at your service without being overbearing, they really strike the right balance. The location is just magical, you’re sitting in a sunken room in such beautiful surroundings, checkout their gorgeous chandeliers. Be sure to reserve in advance, worth every penny and considering the price, excellent value for such quality.

Ali Kone

Amazing place. Good quality-price

M.S. M.

Food was excellent staff and manager were superb

Deonna Melton

The photos as posted, do NOT do this place justice. I walked it and it was breathtaking. As soon as we were seated, I just knew this place reminded me of a place I've either already been or seen before. And I nailed it. SATC movie, this is the place where BIG and Carrie had their engagement party. Score! So, this place is impressive and is perfect for night out with friends or a romantic dinner. The food was simply delicious, I mean everything we ordered was fantastic, even for the most discerning palate. We ordered the Mongolian Lamb Chops, Short Rib and Scallion Pancake, Tea Smoked Spare Ribs, Whole Sea Bass, Chicken, Wild Mushroom Chow Fun and Vegetable Fried Rice. Yes, a lot of food but well worth the gluttonous behavior.

Chris M

Wonderfully designed restaurant. Food and service, both equally great. We sat at the huge table under the chandeliers. Kim took really good care of us. Definitely a memorable experience.

Pam Beasly

RUDE FRONT DESK STAFF !annoyed with the front desk staff at this place we where told to sit at the lounge and waited over and hour and a half and never even got seated and never even got checked on and we had a reservation and when my husband went to the front desk to ask how much longer it would be the girl at the front said well weren't you late with a sarcastic little attitude, mind you we was only like 20 mins late, as well the only one who had the curtesy to check on us was a girl who was serving us drinks at the lounge walked out and went to Tao right across the street which was double as packed and we was accommodate with in less then 10 mins and the food was AMAZING !

Philip Kasten

The service was very good. The menu was varied, but had only a few dishes suitable for my vegan and vegetarian friends. The food was well prepared, but one member of my party said that he had higher expectations.

Stephania Roy

Great vibe, great food, great restaurant!!!! Black cod is definitely a must, and so is the steak. The service was excellent.

Fatuma Hydara

Great vibes. Large, beautiful restaurant. I ordered Lobster Spring Rolls (which were much bigger than I thought they'd be for an appetizers) and the Wok Noodles with Prawns. Both were delicious

Jessica Di Zio

Very cool resto with nice drinks. The food is great but a bit pricey. However, if you're looking for something different with great dishes, this is your place

Davey Singleton

The food is literally amazing !!! Ambiance is beautiful. I got the chilled udon noodles which i didn't like so much because it has this candy-like strings in them that gets in every bite and sticks to your teeth like jelly beans. It is also cold hence the chilled, so it wasn't really my vibe. My sister got the crab noodles which was so much better so I definitely recommend that !! The coconut curry comes with rice and is absolutely delicious. I don't usually like curry but this was amazing The cauliflower dish was so good also! I would be coming back

David Ivan Goosen

Buzzing atmosphere and delicious food options. Dungeness crab sticky rice was my fav!

Matan Kadosh

Well known for the famous scene in the Sex and the City Movie, this fine dining Asian fair has elegance and food to keep you enthralled for a most perfect outing. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and had helpful suggestions about the menu. The dumplings come in sets of 5 and the entrees are in mid-size bowls. They may try and convince you to buy more, claiming that the food comes in smaller portions, but I honestly though that ordering two entrees and one set of dumplings is enough for two people. Hope this helps!

Jessica Camelliri

Husband and I had a date night in NYC and only go to the best restaurants around ! This will forever be a favorite- every dish that we ordered was beyond delicious! and our server JOHN made our experience 5stars. I recommend reserving a table with him to have a high quality dining experience ! Only the best !!!

Vance Wei

The atmosphere is amazing and luxurious. It is definitely an impressive place to bring a date to. The dim sun and other apps are pretty good, so as the desserts, but the mains are kind of a let down... Its more of a chinese inspired western cuisine. The Ma La chicken despite its name is neither numb nor spicy, but sweet and sour... The service is superb though.

Brad Holmes

Easily one of the best meals i have ever had. Course after course of awesome flavours.

brett rundle

Amazing place - some of the asian food I've ever had.

Lana Denys

Celebrated my 30th Birthday here. Absolutely fantastic, service brilliant, food outstanding. It’s not cheap, but worth every cent!!

EBONY PAULLEY

Always a wonderful experience, staff very professional. The venue has a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The food is as if I'm always experiencing it for the 1st time every time and Desserts are art, you almost don't want to eat it, but then you'll end up cleaning the plate.

R No

Awful service. We made our reservation for 2 at 10 pm. We waited until 11pm. Rude manners. Loud music, placed in a tinny space between two other couples. Too expensive for the quality of the food

Adyut Hari Goel

Awesome dinsums and ambience. Staff is very professional. Bar is great

Ian B

There are all sorts of ways that the modern upscale lounge take on Chinese can go wrong. Buddakan gets it all right. Silly attentive service, great food, and surprisingly amazing drinks and desserts. Highly recommended.

Chantl Martin

Our team dined here after a quarterly review meeting. We enjoyed the overall ambiance. The speed and agility of the staff surprised and delighted us throughout the meal. We purchased several dishes to share across the table for dinner - best decision ever. I enjoyed every dish I tried and dessert surpassed the meal. Highly recommend!

Adam Starling

UNBELIEVABLE! GET THE CHEF SPECIAL AND SHARE AROUND THE TABLE. YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU DID!

Hanlin Ouyang

Thumbs up for the Peking duck, Atlantic cod and smoked tofu. Softshell crab is mediocre. Glazed Bass is on the dry side while the lobster fired rice has no high light of any flavor.

Dan Prewett

Food great service great price a bit high

Rippy Roo

This is not Asian fusio nfood It's Asian garbage food

Ethan Graham

Beautiful restaurant with very nice staff. Me and my wife just moved to NYC recently and it was our first time dining here. We made a note when we made our reservation that we will be going to see a theatre show afterwards. As soon as we arrived at our table, Marc came over and checked us on how much time we have to get to the theatre. He assured us that our dishes will come out quickly. We really appreciated the attention to detail that the staff puts in. We look forward to coming back to dine here!

Diego Link

Ordered the table prie fix for a group of 6. Wish they could have told you what was coming out when. Felt also that the rice and noodles dishes coming out first way before meat was a bad idea. You fill up on noodles and then have no room for the meat dishes that come out later. Plenty of food. Very attentive staff. Food was good, creative, I like more spice , but that's just a personal opinion. Presentation was fantastic.

Rohan Modi

Food was great, atmosphere is ideal for a dinner conversation amongst the table. Service was a slight concern, food was not timed properly as multiple dishes came out at the same time feeling cold. Tasted great though.

Robert DeCaul

It was a great fun pizza spot. The slices were all cold by the time we got them though. Otherwise highly recommended.

Sonal Dhingra

Crazy good. The food and ambiance and the staff is super courteous. They take special care for allergies. A place to go too

Jerard Kemper

Amazing atmosphere! It's definitely one of the best high-end restaurants in New York City! Expect to spend couple of hundred bucks on a nice dinner! Their food is top notch, we tried a lot of stuff like crab in the noodle, also lobster rice and everything was so good! For dessert i would recommend to try their Chocolate Pistachio Cremoso it was just the cherry of the cake for the night! Looking forward to visit this place again and again!

Wendy Spence

Out of all the places I have tried in NYC, this is one of my favorite dinner spots. The beef tenderloin with the yummy sauce is amazing. We also tried the lobster fried rice and the oxtail dumplings. I can't wait to go back and explore more of the menu.

E G

We were very impressed with the food quality and service! Ordered dumpling for appetizers, they were incredible! I got lobster for main course. Original recipe, lightly breaded with rice flower lobster bite size chair, tender and flavorful. Vegetables were delicious, tender yet crunchy, not oily, very light and flavorful. Snow crab was also very good and spicy. Overall I can say that so far it's one of the best oriental restaurants we've tried in NY. Hope the food quality will remain consistent, we'll definitely be back.

David Robles

Unless you don't like food, you won't be dissatisfied. A technical, imaginative dining experience with an exceptional staff. And a staff who has grown friendlier over the years. A nice place to have a conversation with a variety of table experiences (I imagine I would become friends with the captain to have better reservation options if it was more local to me). Its a place you can have a conversation, over cocktails and food that is consistently very good. Google being across the street has clearly been good for the location. The clientele is extremely upscale, and for a meal of this caliber it is affordable. The menu is elevated Asian street food for the American palette, so sweeter and less spice...approachable, with hidden delights, and lots of options. Full disclosure I have eaten at this place for many years now. It hasn't changed much over the years. Becoming a local staple, has been a good thing and the ambiance, familiarity has grown on me personally. If you are a cautious food global tourist looking for a good entry way to a variety of Asian cuisine, its hard to think of better.

Dawn Shaikh

Always delightful! The edamame potstickers were delicious! And the banana cheesecake was amazing!

Adam Burgess

Food was amazing, atmosphere was something special and the staff are very accommodating and friendly with it. Would recommend this restaurant to anybody visiting New York and likes Asian food, some of the best i've ever tasted.

Arlene Rose

Food is always very tasty. Restaurant is a little too dark. Very good service. Good for special occasion.

Fares Sayegh

Great service, delicious food, good drinks

Dhivya Ravindran

It's a lovely place with an unassuming entry. The food was extremely delicious. They had their own take on traditional dishes and the spin was a total delight. The ambience is very cozy for a place that's huge. It's a good choice for a romantic date. A definite winner this one.

Dung Ly

Crowded and fun. Love the ambience. It’s a very good place for friends, couples... There has an impressed wine selection.

Stuart Dale

Great dining experience. Food and service were both excellent. Waitress nailed the recommendations for dishes. Ioannis was a great host and look forward to returning.

A. De Silva

Good food and lots of it! Friendly staff as well which a winning combination. We had the tasting menu and everything was excellent but the rate at which the food arrived was too quick. I've done tasting's before at various restaurants including Michelin starred ones and now have felt this rushed. Would have been 5 stars if it wasn't for that.

Lauren Drennan

We did a tasting and it was so yummy! I will come here every time I come to nyc!! LOVE

Thomas Klemm

We all were a bit disappointed. Long wait at the bar despite reservation, but more importantly the food was not really exciting. Monkfish and rock shrimps were a positive surprise but the rest didn‘t blow us away and we left slightly disappointed. There are better fancy alternatives in the city.

Ruban Than

This place is an institution next to Chelsea market.. beautiful interiors, very good food and service! definitely try the crab...

janelle jackman

Omg the food was phenomenal. Honestly I enjoyed every dish I tried that day. Particularly the lamb and lobster fried rice. Honestly a great location and ambience is lovely. Was a bit loud but its NYC so what to expect.

Bryan B

Very trendy, hip place on the lower east side between Chelsey and Greenwich Village. Great atmosphere, great food and great service. Better make a reservation.

Silvia Zonana

Love it food exellent and great service

steve arsenault

We walked out. We arrived at the time of our reservation and had to wait in bar area for quite some time. When we were finally seated it was at a table scrunched in the corner. Way too small even by NYC standards. We sat for an interminable period of time with no wait staff even acknowledging our existence. After a wasted 20 minutes we got up and left and had a wonderful dinner at Fig & Olive.

Jordi Ustrell

Very close to TAO Downtown in the Meatpackers district, this japanese restaurant seduced me from the first dinner, a nice family anniversary. Being one of the famous trending restaurants of the city, frequented by celebrities and similar weirdos, they made us to feel very well giving us a quiet and intimate corner. The food was delicious and the service was allways caring us. We will come to visit it every time that distance allow us.

Tay T

Nice lively ambience. Nice choice of music. Ordered crab, lobster rice, and prawn noodles all great choices. Service was decent. The wait for the upstairs bathroom wasn't too bad taking into account there are only two stalls. Downside, there was no running water in the bathroom which creates unsanitary conditions.

Sandra Mcknight

Very upclass restaurant, love the food ! Staff is great

D Lee

Just the best! Seriously. It's the best.

Joshua South

Buddakan is one of the most-booked NYC restaurants on Opentable and justifiably so. It's unique, huge, and has great food (and cocktails too :-) We had dinner on a Monday evening. It's in the same building as the Chelsea Market, enter though the rightmost door (as you are facing the building). Once you enter, it's like a world of its own inside. We had a table downstairs in one of the rooms. The place was not that filled up when we arrived, but by the time we left both downstairs and upstairs were packed, so you definitely need a reservation.

Gabriel Bench

Very trendy, beautiful decor and decent but a bit expensive food

David Dawes

Everything here was fabulous. We ordered appetizers expecting them to be small and that we might need an inexpensive top-up in Chelsea Markets after. We were SO impressed with our dishes, and only just managed to finish them, and almost skipped dessert. But we had to try one, and the passionfruit souffle was superb! We'll be back before leaving NYC Tuesday :)

Trikaldarshi Persaud

Great service. Amazing food. Excellent ambience

Jennifer Francois

Food was amazing! Place is a very beautiful environment. Everyone is dressed either casual or semi dressy. Great place for a birthday dinner, date night etc.

Donny Xfile

Superb. I recommend getting one of the samplers for dinner. Dress sharp, enjoy yourself.

Sally Walker

I used to go to this restaurant a lot under the previous owner. They were one of the best Thai Restaurant in the city. Under the management, they are able to enhance the choice of menu and maintain the food quality with some legacy of the previous owner. The environment give me a vibe of being in a nice European/Thai fusion restaurant in central Bangkok. Everyone should give it a try.

Andrew Fader

The food was made from high quality ingredients and cooked very well. The service was good. The bill was $150 including tip for a cocktail, 2 orders of dumplings, 2 egg rolls, a chow fun with mushrooms, and a chili chicken entree. It was not Chinese food. It was American food with a "thai chili" hot wing sauce veneer. Other than that, it was almost completely tasteless, with nary a peppercorn of the promised "Chinese pepper." You can go to Ollie's Sichuan and pay a small fraction of the same price for a veritable Sichuan feast replete with leftovers. Maybe we should have ordered the more sushi-oriented items or more American "fusion" items as it was certainly fresh, not unhealthy, cooked to a high grade of quality, with nice-restaurant finishes including a traditional wait staff.

C D

Delicious food, outstanding service with high dedication to detail. Awesome stay - 5 stars!

elsie pierre

My daughter just had her sweet sixteen birthday party at Buddakan, cannot tell you how great everyone from the waiter to the chef went beyond our expectations. Thank you for making this day so special for my daughter. A great shout out goes to Samantha Chin who was the event coordinator. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Nick Gupta

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the world! The food is stunning and there are fair choices for vegetarians and vegans. But think they can still add more options for vegetarians and vegans. My spouse and I often go there for a beautiful, romantic dinner. Their drinks and desserts are delicious too! But we always have to wait for at least 15 minutes despite having a reservation. The restaurant should do a better job in making the table available on time! Overall, it's a great restaurant and we would definitely go back!

Stijn Floren

There were definitely some great dishes. Staff was wonderful and the setting was nice. But why oh why does that music need.to play so loud? It's almost impossible to have a conversation.

aseem dixit

Sheer Upscale delight! Huge space of 16000 square feet! Food is not outstanding for this scale but very good. But the ambiance, decor and set up are just apt for a club like restaurant. The service is good. You need to book at 45 days ahead if booking for 2-4 people. If the group size is bigger than at least 2 months in advance. I met a group of 13 chinese people and they had booked their table 3 months in advance. The cost for 2 people with drinks should be around $180-200 with tip. Must visit at least once .

Francois Perron

Love this place. The food is excellent and good service. Not if you are on a budget though.

Bella Scotch

Last night I celebrated my birthday here with my family and it was a group of 13, our server Rafael was Amazing! Some of ud suffered with allergies and he was able to recommend certain dishes and appetizers as to avoid anyone becoming sick. The entire staff was helpful, friendly and the ambiance was to die for. If you are looking for some great service, amazing food and amazing atmosphere, look no further.

stephanie song

Expensive for what's it is. I ordered Jade shrimp dumplings (4 in a dim sum steamer), scallion pancakes, and Singaporean chili crab. All of them were good but nothing special. The shrimp dumplings ($16) were just a bit better than the ones you can get at a high end dim sum place for 1/3 the price. The scallion pancakes were not crispy but rather dense, the beef topping was good but again for $18 it was ridiculously priced. I did enjoy the crab ($39) but having had it in Singapore this is a bit of a pale imitation lacking the brightness and flavor balance of the original. Ignoring the price the service was good and the food probably a 7 on a 10 scale. Adding in the price though it was not worth it.

Daniel Vollaire

What a beautiful place, good vibes, good looking people, friendly and professional service. And the food was very good, dumplings were just perfect. Other dishes were very good as well. Definitely a place to come back to!

Donn Felker

Fantastic experience. Delicious plates, great service and a great vibe all around. One of my favorites in the city

Jon C

Absolutely one of the best meals we had in New York. The food quality is outstanding, everything is delicious, and the dessert is possibly the best I've ever had. The decor is grand and beautiful. The staff couldn't be more helpful, and have a very intimate knowledge of the menu. Obviously, such a place will have a heavy cheque at the end of the night, but it's worth it. Enjoy!

I won't give this restaurant the worse rating but not far from it. My wife and I ate there twice dirdur a recent visit to ny. I ordered the "award-winning" stir-fry vegetables. The vegs were over-cooked and would have been tasteless if the waiter had not brought the soy sauce I thought was going to be added by the cook. The rice was gummy. I also had the beef tips, which were tough and tasteless. The sauce that the menu implied would have helped had I had any. The "steamed rice" was a rice pilaf leftover from the day before - very gummy again. My wife had the open roast beef sandwich, which she said was tough. Her "seasoned" green beans and my baby carrots we're again overcooked and tasteless. Our waiter at lunch didn't tell us about the lunch specials and our dinner waitress forgot to bring extra napkins we asked for. This restaurant, in our opinion, is way over-priced for the food served. Our plan was originally to bring mother in for her 88th buy Joan says NOT A CHANCE

As the of second-generation Chinese immigrants, I used to take pride in pooh-poohing Americanized versions of Chinese dishes. Turning my nose up at cardboard cartons of chow mein and holding up a plate of slimy sea cucumbers, I would tell myself that I knew what real Chinese food was, and it was better. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy eating the crispy fried chicken cubes drenched in sticky sweet orange sauce from time to time. But I never acknowledged it as Chinese food, and certainly not of the authentic variety. It wasn’t until recently that I stopped and asked myself what exactly it was that I took so much pride in. What does “authentic” Chinese food really mean? Many Americans perceive ethnic food to be an inferior cuisine, based on the expectation that it should be cheap. This kind of thinking often arises out of ignorance – a misunderstanding that Chinese dishes are simple, consisting of inexpensive ingredients and prepared in a rudimentary style. Things are slowly changing these days, with more and more foodies becoming interested in regional Chinese specialties, even prompting the Wall Street Journal to declare that, “when it comes to fine dining in America, Chinese is the new French.” And yet, foodies are still unwilling to shell out the same amount of money for Chinese soup dumplings as they would for a French duck. The widely-held belief that Chinese food is just plain bad for you is yet another false expectation of what authentic Chinese food should be. Recent restaurant reviews confirm that the words “greasy” and “unhealthy” are unfortunately still very much synonymous with Chinese cooking, and the xenophobic myth that MSG causes illness remains prevalent among many white Americans. But what many Americans believe to be authentic isn’t really authentic at all. Indeed, the birth of Chinese food in America resulted from years of racist attitudes towards the wave of Chinese immigrants arriving during the 1800s. Opening up restaurants was one of the few ways the Chinese were allowed to stay in America, and soon Chinese chefs began to tailor their recipes towards the prevailing sweet American taste buds. And so the Chinese food Americans are familiar with is actually either just a miniscule fraction of what makes up Chinese food culture, or would not even be found anywhere near mainland China. Growing up in America, I often felt caught between the Chinese food my parents served at the dinner table, and the Chinese food being sold in restaurants all over the country, as if those were the only two options available to me. When I started to reclaim my Chinese identity and cultural heritage as an adult, I realized that I needed to discover what authenticity meant for myself. For a long time, I adhered to this vague notion that authenticity referred to purity – that true Chinese cuisine could not be tainted by foreign influence. Down with the beef and broccoli myth of America! But I quickly realized that this definition was much too simplistic. Take General Tso’s chicken, for instance. It’s one of the most popular items on any Chinese takeout menu in America: crispy, fried chicken in sticky brown sauce surrounded by broccoli. Completely irresistible, and not remotely authentic, right? But trace its history far back enough, and you find that the dish was invented by Peng Chang-Kuei, a chef born and raised in Hunan, China. He conceived of the dish in Taiwan in 1949, naming it after a Hunan general and highlighting traditional Hunanese flavors. When Peng Chang-Kuei later opened a restaurant in New York in the 1970s, he made the dish sweeter and less spicy, and Americans flocked to his restaurant in droves. Does the fact that a Chinese chef created General Tso’s chicken excuse the dish from its American influences? Can’t this adaptation be seen as a subset of Chinese cuisine – made by Chinese, for both Chinese and Americans?

I went to this “so called fancy restaurant “ this Sunday as a surprise for my girlfriend birthday. I rate this as the worse customer service EVERRR. I have made a reservation a week ahead of the actual date and when I got there it was just a total mess. They had my girl and I literally waiting for like and 1 hour and 30mins waiting for us to have a table. This is why I called ahead to avoid this. On top of that they sit us on a table that we specifically spoke about over the phone clearly and Still reserved us in the wrong area. Their employees were very improper and unethical, that was really rude and irresponsible of them the way they took care of us on our night. It took me more then 4 times trying to talk to the employees nicely and being patient to get a manager attention to finally resolve our issue. I was also not satisfied with the food was horrible there when they served us. My girlfriend was so unpleasant with everything on how they treated us. I will say that I will NEVER BE COMING BACK TO THIS PLACE I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYBODY BOOKING A SIT AT THIS RESTAURANT SUCKS.

I went here tonight with a large group and we had a lot of variety in the group. From the tuna tartare to the vegetable rice, to the main courses (I had the black pepper beef), everything was exceptional. Our server was mostly very attentive and good, but prepare to be here for a bit due to the several courses. The atmosphere of the restaurant is modern but very interesting as well. I will definitely be back!

Very neat place hidden it seems with just a small name on the outside. Very hip and loud place. Service was a little slow and had to ask everytime I needed a refill on our drinks. We have the shrimp rolls, lobster egg rolls which were just okay, the king crab sticky rice which had two small pieces of crab, I would rather the crab be mixed in the rice or just keep it off the plate cause it looked absurd having two small pieces of crab next to all that rice and then we had the shrimp chow fun and that was good. We had also gotten two specialty drinks that were so acidity I couldn't even drink one of them. I was expecting more from here and was a little disappointed.

Before I jump to the more extensive review, I want to say that overall we liked Buddakan and it is very likely that we will come back when we are next time in NYC. Now, please let me explain why 3 starts and not 4 or 5. 1. The atmosphere in the restaurant was not pleasant. The music was too loud and due to that everyone had to talk loudly. As a result, it was very noisy. 2. The tables are very close to each other. We had to move a table so that my fiance can sit, and we had to move a table again when we were leaving so that she can exit. I feel that in the restaurants which aim for fine dining ($$$$) they should pay more attention to the distance between tables and overall privacy of guests. 3. We left with the feeling that the restaurant is generally overpriced. We are not experts in NYC price ranges, but from our experience in other restaurants the prices are more or less comparable to London. Unfortunately, Buddakan is more expensive than Hakkasan, Yatautcha or Novikov in London, despite the fact that food and atmosphere in those is not worse, maybe even slightly better.

Upscale bar and restaurant right next to Chelsea market building. $15-20 per cocktail. Thursday and Friday night are filled up with young people. Worth your time if you are looking for new friendship.
