This Restaurant corresponds to the category of French restaurant.
The place is great and roomy, the menu was yummy and the rates were very reasonable. quick, efficient service and very welcoming staff members. I highly recommend this place.
I and my girlfriend loves our experience here. The place had a great atmosphere, wide-ranging, delectable food, nice drinks and amazing staff. :)
One of my favorite places to grab some food. fantastic location, well kept, and great customer service. I highly recommend them!
Wonderful place. Great food. Quinelles were to dye for. Perfect service. My husband and I truly enjoyed our dinner.
This is one of my favorite brunch joints. Great menu and service, and the best thing is there is rarely a wait to be seated. People are so focused on brunching further downtown (LES, WV) and the wait is always long and food ok. It’s totally worth coming here to brunch then head to Central Park.
Everything here is so delicious! An absolute must-go-to restaurant in NY. My husband and I went here for restaurant week and were blown away by the fixed menu. Lobster bisque is one of the best things we've ever tasted. The short rib was delicious as well. I came here again with my mother post-restaurant week and it was just as wonderful. She got the salmon Wellington and I got a regular cheeseburger (don't judge me). Will absolutely be coming back! Especially for their happy hour!
Love this place. Mimosas, unlimited crepes, friendly staff!
Most amazing hamburger i have ever had
An amazing meal in a beautiful dining room. The service was top notch. Never thought I’d love a French restaurant but I did!
Renee will always ensure a positive experience. The ambiance and positive energy fully compliment the high quality of dishes served.
Very nice setting for a business dinner
This is our fourth review of Benoît, reflecting different experiences throughout the years, with the last one back in December 2018. Again, we can't stop raving on the tremendous work put in by the outstanding Chef Laëtitia Rouabah and her team, who transformed Benoît NYC from yet another decent French restaurant in Manhattan to a star establishment, the establishment that blends together the down-to-earth traditional and often hearty French bistro fare with the hip up-to-date trends of the modern gastronomy. Now we got to sample the restaurant's Chef's Tasting Menu consisting of well, 5 courses. Strictly speaking it is 4 courses but the amuse-bouche has been turned from its usual microscopic portion of a single bite into a full-sized appetizer. The food, and we mean each course, was excellent, perfectly cooked, perfectly plated, perfectly portioned, and perfectly served. Again, the dishes are mostly inspired by the glorious tradition of cuisine française, so you won't find foam, elaborate designs featuring uni, wagyu A5 or other ubiquitous trademarks of the today's foodie dining scene, but have no mistake, Chef Rouabah's is not the same food that have been served in bistros for the last 200 years; there are winds of change here, the change well justified and fully enjoyable for the eye and palate. The service was great, and our French waiter demonstrated the same degree of amiability rightly balanced with self-respect and independence that you only find with Parisian (well in his case Lyonnais) servers. The last but not least important aspect is the budget-friendly aspect of Benoit's Chef's Tasting Menu. Its is very attractively priced at $85 pp with no less attractive wine pairing (5 wines) priced at $50. We can't recommend the place high enough. Also noteworthy is the restaurant's seasonal opening of Jardin Benoît, the establishment's own garden where, effective May 7th, Veuve Clicquot rich cocktails and appetizers are served.
Great cuisine and service!
Delicious food, upscale, elegant setting. Perfect.
Such great food. Regret know this place as late as now , but not too late. Truly French way bistro. Food was excellent, service wonderful, atmosphere was warm and cozy, busy busy busy. We celebrate my Mom’s birthday. coincidence we missing my booking for other restaurant and have to find one instead of, we r so lucky , because follow the map I realize my labeled Benoit. Tell myself why not. Backyard diamond!
Average French Restaurant. Service was good, food not that much
Excellent fancy French restaurant. Professional service, and great, well-made food.
Everyone is INSANELY NICE. The food is even better than you could imagine. Great wine selection. The escargot is highly recommended. I can't say enough good things. The ambiance and decor are adorable and warm. Please go!
While no where near the class of the original bistro in Paris this is a very nice choice for lunch or dinner in NYC. We also had a wonderful Bordeaux suggested by the young sommelier,We spotted the bar and it's fabulous decor when we had dinner at the Italian restaurant next door. We sat down for a glass of champagne
Honestly i dont like to give bad reviews but when uts Alain Ducasse and eggs Benedict and orange juice add up to $34 tip included, one expects a satisfactory meal. The orange juice had icicles in it - just like when my mom used to make tropicana from concentrate!!!
The food is amazing here and the wait staff could not have been nicer.
Brunch with the family. Good atmosphere. Terrible service and some bad food (king salmon, lobster salad). Cooked poorly and believe the lobster salad was sitting out for a while. Over priced. Food could've been bearable but waitress was loud, intense, pushy, rude and obnoxious. Possibly operating on drugs. Don't go Sundays maybe better for dinner on a weekday.
Loved it. My wife and I stop for brunch. Fabulous food and service.
Top notch white linen restaurant. Delicious entrees. Extremely nice attention. Worth the trip to mid-town.
Mediocre service and mediocre, food.
Oh take me there again. In my former wealthy life I would be there more often but now it's a real treat to go for lunch. Well worth the visit for great French food and service.
Went to a collaboration night with Home Town BBQ. What an awesome experience. A creative Melody of flavors between French and American BBQ. Service was excellent and staff was super friendly. I hope they do more of these collaborations in the future.
Impeccable service, great wines. Loved most of our meal except the sirloin seemed a bit bland. Otherwise I would go back, but I would order differently
Big thanks to Howie!! Last night, September 24, 2018,) it was time for a group of us, (usually between 10-12,) have our monthly wine dinner. It always requires substantial planning and distances to cover, However the hard is part is culling the wine that we drink. Normally we show up with 24 - 30 bottles and we only drink 1 per person plus the "star" of the night which is always a dessert wine, Last night was a 1945 Massandra, from the Crimea. Normally we order an appetizer, a mid course, entree and dessert and enough of each one so that it makes it easier to go with the wines. Last night we started with 2 appetizers the first was a Tarte flambee which was an Alsatian thin crust, with onions and bacon. The second appetizer as a Duck foie gras terrine, with black mission fig chutney, accompanied by a toasted brioche. Both dishes had lovely presentation and were prepared well. for our next course we had Seared Maine sea scallops, with crispy gnocchi & matelote sauce, then came a plate of Served veal sweetbreads with baby vegetables, cooking jus. The scallops were wonderful, the sweetbreads were overpowered by the vegetables and salt. Next came the Poulet roti served with pommes frites. Chicken in case you didn't realize is has only a 4-minute window to be cooked within, if not within that time period it's either under cooked or overcooked. This chicken was cooked perfectly however it seemed to be lacking seasoning. For our final savory courses, we had a Hand-chopped beef tartare with a mesclun salad and Skirt steak a' la Bordelaise this was an excellent preparation. For our desserts we shared a selection of French Cheeses, along with a Plum "tarte fine" vanilla ice cream, then a Crockpot of figs with a black currant sorbet - This was Outstanding and then we had the Benoit profiteroles. We had wonderful service throughout the evening a topflight sommelier who worked very closely with us, Benoit couldn't have done anything else to make the night more enjoyable. I really wanted to award more than 4 stars but you have a choice of doing 4 or 5, and at the end of the night for me to award 5 there can't be any faux pas. We will be back again to see if we can give them 5. Thanks again from all of us
Cuisine, ambiance and service were all excellent. A wonderful restaurant for that special time.
One of the best French restaurants in the city. The prixe fix menu is amazing.
Excellent French bistrot, quality traditional brasserie dishes. Great value for money and venue
Limited selection, but what they had was amazing.
Fine dining restaurant - good food but lacking atmosphere. The Aircon was ON despite being freezing outside (February)!!
Excellent French dining. It’s not cheap but great food and great service.
When I ate at Ducasse at the Essex House, I had one of the best meals of my life. The food was exceptional; the service out of this world. At Benoit, neither were true, for me. My evening was centered around celebrating my engagement. Though we informed the staff, no mention was made at all. Our waiter was curt and unresponsive. As an example, when we were served a brick of frozen butter, I informed him and was met with an "okay;" nothing was done about it. The steward seemed as though we were occupying his otherwise useful time, though we asked for his opinion on what to drink with our respective meals. Overall, I suggest seeking out a restaurant who's staff truly embraces the cuisine they serve.
Amazing food and great professional service in this standby French bistro.
Benoit was a great experience. Classic and modern French in a bistro setting. Recently updated to include renovations, new chef, and new menu that is exciting and offers lots of options. Great bar program, signature cocktails, and an extensive wine list. Attentive staff, is friendly and informative. Interesting dining programs with a la carte, set menus, and special menus (recent event paired American BBQ with traditional French fare). Highly recommended, takes reservations, but open dining (outside when weather is nice) and bar are also good choices.
Perfect place for Easter brunch.
Great service and food. We sat at the bar and the bartenders we're attentive and friendly. The roast chicken for 2 was delicious and the cocktails went down easy.
Drinks and desert in the bar. Had the milliefullie which was awesome. Light and fluffy. Great cocktails as well. Will come back for dinner.
Our bartender, Paul, was extremely gracious and professional.
super great for good deal
What an amazing dinner! Service couldn’t be better!
Nice Ambiance. Well prepared food. Attentive service. Miss charm and warmth of pre-renovation dining room (especially painted ceiling).
My first time having caviar and I am in love. Every dish we ordered was amazing! I had the Italian salad which was spot on. My husband had the bagel with smoked salmon and it was by far the best bagel he has ever had. And we also had the flatbread with smoked salmon which was amazing. I am in love! The staff was so friendly and nice. Will definitely return!
Came here for Saturday brunch. Tried the croque madame, octopus, and sweets corner. The dishes were simple, as expected for a brunch menu, but all tasted great. Sweets corner had some hits and misses. Really liked the pancakes, crepes, and tart. Thought the muffin and brownie were a bit dry. Would come here again.
Fabulous menu and service. I had the scallops and a to die for apricot souffle for dessert. While the wine list was extensive, I opted for a Cosmo, which was very well made.
We went there on a Saturday night for an early dinner. The food was perfect from appetizer to dessert. We loved the way the escargots were served. The size of the servings was just right, the chicken for one person is actually big enough to be shared. The service was also impeccable and they were very accommodating. The ambience was reminiscent of Paris and they paid a lot of attention to the small details. It was very well executed. We loved is so much that we went back the next day for brunch for their croque monsieur and croque madame. Both were very good!
Great food, nice room. The service needs more attention to details.
Superb service paired with classic French cuisine. The food was very buttery ala French cooking, so it was not to my taste but it was beautifully prepared and served. The service was impeccable and the restaurant decor and ambience was lovely. The staff was very helpful.
Best Croque Monsieur ever. Great dining room and bar. Excellent service.
I had a pleasant experience here--mainly people watching and admiring the beautiful bar they have. I went with a date after the Christmas tree lighting at the rock so it was nice night to settle into after a long night of rain. They have a wide variety of cocktails and wine on the menu. It wasn't a busy night considering it was an eventful night. We just walked in and we were seated by the lovely bar. It was amusing to hear the jolly guy in a Santa suit behind us talk to every patron he saw including us. The staff is nice and attentive. It's a lovely bar to go to and everyone seems to agree--we've seen so many people take picture at the place. I'd love to come back to this place.
Great escargot, the rest of the food is just ok . Don't worth the money
I liked this place as the food was delicious and the interior design was gorgeous. Apart from the floors, which made the whole place look cheaper. Other than that, would come back:)
Food is awesome, service is really great. Price are really affordable considering the quality of food and service. Better place I found here. I am French.
Typical French restaurant and decorarion, with nice menu including dessert and wine
One of the best meals I've had. Great service is to be expected, and the food was wonderful. Be prepared for the prices, but you get what you pay for.
Perfect service~ very delicious food! Reasonable price!!!
French heaven in the middle of New York
Amazing French spot in midtown. Great food and wine, and a casual not-to-stuffy ambiance that if you let yourself transports you to Paris
My wife and I really enjoyed our New Year's Day brunch!
Great Parisian decor and friendly staff but quite disappointed by the food. The tasting menu was... tasteless with tiny pieces of fish and meat (duck). Cooking was perfect but sauces and sides were just average. Dessert looked and tasted like an industrial frozen ice cream. Too much fuss for a pretty ordinary peasant cuisine. For me, Benoit is overrated and kind of disappointing.
We celebrated my birthday here I can say that I had a wonderful experience. The place was exceptional and the food was high quality with reasonable price. The people were friendly as well.
Benoit offers a true French gastronomie experience in a very elegant restaurant. Service is at his best with dedicated and highly trained staff members. Restaurant week menu offers amazing value for money. A must try!
Made an online reservation for an anniversary dinner and ate the restaurant week prix fixe menu. Everything (French onion soup, duck, flank steak, and profiteroles) was delicious and the service was great. There was live music until about 8p.m. They spelled out happy anniversary on the dessert course plate and bright it out with lit candles. So festive!
We have had mixed reactions after three separate visits. The first lunch was excellent, especially the soufflé for dessert. We went back a second time to try the Tarte Tatin. It was a whole pie and was very good except that the texture was a bit soft. Today we tried to go to brunch but didn’t stay. The atmosphere was chilly and uncomfortable and the air conditioning was too cold. I don’t think we’ll be back. There’s something vaguely unfriendly and stuffy about the place.
Less refined than the one in Paris, but still a good address for French classics in New York. Delicious French onion soup. Fun pastry buffet for the brunch.
Pricey small portions.. food is good.
Great selection of food and drinks
Very good French restaurant. The food is delicious and the ambiance is really good too !!!!
Was a lovely experience for my very first French Restaurant. Service was sublime
Food is always amazing. They always treat us with wonderful service as well, even if we are in a hurry or a bit underdressed. Definitely my go to spot in the city for upscale classic French cuisine.
We had a wonderful dinner at this french restaurant this past week. The sevice was perfect, the food delicious and the wine list enough for every taste. I recommend all of the small plates for shared appetizers, the spot on esgargot as an appetizer that can likewise be shared, any of the fish dishes and the exquisitely prepared duck. My only critisism is that the pour of single glasses of wine was quite light, so would recommend purchasing a bottle.
We went for a private birthday party in the room upstairs. It was very nice and the food was good.
Awesome cosy place for an outstanding diner
Decent French food.
Sunday brunch here can convince a 10-year-old meal-time-is-chore-time homebody boy that "Sure! I'll go to Paris"
Service was extremely slow and inattentive. The food was small so not the place to go if you are hungry. Lots of bread, little substance.
Lovely atmosphere. Very good escargot, had 2 orders. Had veal liver with sauted onions and potato. Liver was top quality. Highly recommend this restaurant. Very attentive service.
Hosted a company dinner. Very courteous staff. Completely wheelchair accessible.
Great meal, capped with a complementary Madeline fresh out of the oven at the end
Really great find. As you might expect from a Ducasse restaurant, food was excellent and very well paced. Didn't feel rushed at all.
Delicious fine dining French bistro. Outstanding service.
One of my favorite french restaurant in NYC. The food is delicious and authentic, the service is great and the restaurant is beautiful and clean. I wish there a bit more of an ambiance, a little more charisma, but if you are looking for a quiet place with a great meal you are at the right spot.
AMAZING food and somm service. Baba al rhum was a real treat and staff was so friendly even when we were the last people in the place.
Real good food. Love the service
Great service, nice ambiance, above average food - a bit pricey for eat it is
I am a world traveler and must say that Benoit provided one of the best & most interesting meals of my life! Service was superb, too!
Back in April they had the best burger ever ... Brightly-lit tight seating dining area but the food is outstanding
Classic. Beautiful space and great service. Love that you can dine in the main space in the back or relax in the more casual space in the front.
Best food I've had in years. Great atmosphere and customer service.
Very nice ambiance and well thought of menu. A comfortable upscale atmosphere. Service is very prompt although they seem hurried because it was quite busy. We had beef tartare and I personally had the duck which were fabulous. Too bad I was not able to try their wine pairings since I can’t have alcohol when we came but will try next time. I highly recommend. Can’t wait to come back!
Lovely experience. Such great, delicate food with well chosen wines. Benoit has a real French vibe with flawless service, knowledgeable staff & you know you are being treated to some of the best France has to offer, right here in Manhattan. Treat yourself!
Wonderful restaurant with an amazing menu and the best people. The food is always delicious, well presented and served with care. The drinks are cleverly crafted and the flavors are delicate and compliment each other extremely well. One of my favorite places to eat.
French bistro with spacious seating (for nyc) Great choice in midtown.
In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that, in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations. The new needs friends. Last night, I experienced something new, an extraordinary meal from a singularly unexpected source. To say that both the meal and its maker have challenged my preconceptions about fine cooking is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core. In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for Chef Gusteau's famous motto: "Anyone can cook." But I realize, only now do I truly understand what he meant. Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now cooking at Gusteau's, who is, in this critic's opinion, nothing less than the finest chef in France. I will be returning to Gusteau's soon, hungry for more.
Excellent in every respect. Merci
Every course was fantastic; sommelier made a perfect recommendation of a Languedoc wine. This was the best pre-Opera dinner you could ever have!
Great food, ambiance, and service. The wine list is deep and the menu broad. Many of the wait staff and customers speaking French.
Delicious every time we're here. Professional staff, polite and efficient. Nice martinis. Enjoy your visit.
Nice experience overall, good place for brunch. A little bit pricey, but I would come back .
The waitstaff were very attentive. The food was superior for foodies like us.
Super quality and attention to detail even for frech bistro classics, nice twists from Alain!! Must go if you are feeling like a french meal, yet still casual and approachable
Nice Classic French style wine bar
Very nice restaurant with a cozy atmosphere and professional pleasant staff.
NCT 127 says 5/5
Some of the best cocktails I’ve ever had in my life. Best one was Le Jardin. Very refreshing. Beautiful place for a date.
Wonderful meal, excellent wine and attentive service in a lovely room.
I often go to this otherwise quite expensive place to get their roasted chicken for 2, which is a very good value for the money. The environment and service are great!
Been there only once. On the whole, a very good experience. Many of the dishes are standard bistro fair, but you can definitely tase some real creativity from the kitchen. Alain Ducasse is a celebrity chef in France and it shows. The small bite hors d'oeuvres were interesting since you can order many. Expect the usual midtown restaurant deafening din.... too bad because is a pretty dinning room
A Paris bistro in New York. Absolutely divine!
Wonderful food and service
Lovely 3 course prix fixe meal for $44 during Restaurant Week. Excellent food and attentive service. Bon appetit!
I enjoyed a fantastic solo dinner at Benoit on October 12. The service was attentive and skillful while also being friendly. I had escargot and the filet mignon au poivre with frites. Perhaps not the most adventurous choices, but French classic cuisine executed perfectly was what I sought and what I received. I also praise Benoit for offering a wide selection of wines in 5 and 15 ounce pours for instances when a full bottle is not suitable. Overall a complete delight.
I have often dined at Benoit in the past and have always enjoyed the ambiance and the food. Today I returned after a long hiatus. My creamed vegetable soup was lukewarm but very good. The sweetbreads were excellent and the millefeuille dessert was as light as air. Service excellent and friendly. But what have they done to the ambiance???? No flowers, no photos of Paris. Instead, covering the mirrors were some of the most atrocious abstract paintings I've ever seen (and I am a professional artist who does not,as a rule) like to critique other artists The entire ambiance was destroyed. It is no longer a French Bistro but rather a tacky, soul-less hotel restaurant with very good food. What a pity.
Nice french style food, Good quality
The food is excellent, no question whatsoever. Original, interesting, tasty, healthy, excellent ingredients, fulfilling. The price is high but well worth it. What I didn’t like was even though I made advanced reservation, I was given a horrible table. The ambiance is not attractive. Loud. Felt uncomfortable throughout even though the service was fast and efficient. If you are going there with a date, demand and make sure to get an okay table.
