Amazing food! Staff were really friendly and helpful. Nice atmosphere, classy but still could relax

JT Richardson

Wow! Phenomenal meal for restaurant week!

Andrea

Excellent staff, service, and food options! Thank you for making our anniversary memorable.

Jonathan Marpaung

A one star michelin restaurant with lively atmosphere, delicious food, and brilliant service. Dining here was probably the best dining experience I've had in a long time. Want fine dining but don't want the rigidity associated with it? Look no further and reserve this place for your next outing. I was there for dinner at 7.30 and the crowd was still flocking in. I'd say around 9ish was the peak. I had the seared foie gras, rabbit cassoulet, and paris brest. Each one of the dish was sublime. At the time I was there, the only item you can order off the menu is pork schnitzel. Which, like the previous mentioned dishes, was brilliant. The only "disappointment" I had was that the duck egg creme brulee had just taken out of the menu. But hey, it's a valid reason to go back there again and again until they put it back on the menu!

Excellent!

I went to Batard during restaurant week with a couple of friends. The setup is casual and comfortably small and intimate. The lighting was a bit too dim though, it made the food look slightly bland. In terms of service, the staff was really friendly and accommodating, the only low point was that they would refold our serviettes every time we got up or even put it on the table. This is extremely minor, but it is kind of intrusive and slightly annoying when every 10 minutes someone would appear just to fold a serviette. I ordered the smoked salmon, amish chicken and duck egg creme brulee. The smoked salmon was very flavorful and the sauce was light and creamy, and complimented the dish nicely, easily making it my favorite dish of the night. The amish chicken was disappointing. It was bland, with all of the seasoning and flavor being in the garnish/side parts. The chicken was a bit tough to cut either because of the size or that it was overcooked. The creme brulee was amazing! It was rich and despite it being made of duck egg, was not overpowering or overtly present (meaning it was actually subtle). Overall it was a great experience, my friends really enjoyed the chic atmosphere and the good food. Would love to go back again not during restaurant week and try the other dishes!

Let's talk about the French restaurant Bâtard. It was my friend's birthday and she always picks the best places in the city. The food was classicaly French and pretty amazing. My main was the braised porcelet shoulder. It was served with savoy cabbage, cipollini onions, and miso. I've never eaten a piece of meat this tender in my life.

Haneen AlQunaibit

Amazing food! Amazing service! The food texture, presentation, and taste! WONDERFUL! For those who had wine on the table enjoyed it too! I love duck! It was PERFECT! Fine dining yet very cozy! Not so loud you can enjoy the conversation too! The bread is warm! And the butter is just soft to perfection! Definitely would come again’

The location used to be a home for a legendary restaurant called Montrachet, one of the hottest places in the city over a decade ago, which closed its doors in 2007. That was a much different epoch back then, in the NYC restaurant scene, long before Michelin guide moved in, long before the advent of the chef tasting menus, long before Netflix' Chef's Table. The restaurant name, Montrachet, stemmed from a much famed subregion in Bourgogne wine country in France. The official name of the AOC (appellation) is Bâtard-Montrachet, so the restaurant's present name Bâtard is a clin d'œil towards the initiated. The man behind Bâtard is a well-known restaurateur Drew Nieporent, the same guy who was behind Montrachet and a few others restaurants, in Tribeca and elsewhere, the places that were considered the hottest and the trendiest, that's it "back in the day". But, the old hard-earned reputation is not just an outdated relic worth of dithyrambs. Bâtard masters to stay relevant, serving a very good food, impeccably executed, artfully and intricately plated, and, at the end of the day, simply delicious, the food that you really savor and enjoy. Not only that but Bâtard keeps a more or less relaxed atmosphere, where a diner feels welcome, without - allas common - stuck-up attitude one can observe in other great New York City restaurants. The service is very good, even if the dining area is clearly overstaffed. Often we observed about 4 different servers manning one table for four. The prices are amazing, probably the best prices for a Michelin restaurant, both domestically and internationally. A full dinner comprising of 4 courses will run you only $95, which is a bargain, if you ask us. Sure, one can mention a couple other Michelin restaurants with prices even lower (albeit insignificantly), but those are East Village or LES joints with customers lining up in the dining area to get to the sole bathroom. Bâtard is undoubtedly a much more chic establishment. The tables for 2 are your usual row tables; if unwanted proximity to other tables is a concern, book a table at Bâtard after 9 PM and insist on a stand-alone table for 4. We did, and our request was honored, for which we would like to thank the restaurant sincerely. The decor, the "couverts", the lighting, everything is conducive to a very good meal. We wish Chef Marcus G. and Chef de Cuisine Kevin M. a lot of success in running Bâtard smoothly to continue serving beautiful food. More than recommended.

Steve Gosset

The room's a bit austere, but the cuisine more than makes up for it. The menu is small, but the choices are sufficient for a fine modern French meal. A little difficult to find well-priced wine, but worth the hunt.

Anna Pakman

Had a perfect restaurant week dinner. Mushroom and cauliflower app was divine, loved the sear on my crispy trout, and can't beat pâte à choux for dessert. Wheelies: don't let the steps out front intimidate you, there is a portable ramp, albeit steep.

Judy Gumbo

Fabulous ! We are from out of town & this is our 2nd time here. If anything, the food was perfect and generous - with gluten-free options; the staff was friendly & helpful. We first came to Bâtard on a recommendation from a NYC friend & I will recommend it to my daughter & her husband, both foodies from Silicon Valley.

Rebeka Stander

I found this location on Teddy's guide and I am definitely surprised. The food is amazing and the staff is doing there best to make you feel home. The atmosphere is amazing. Great job and see you soon.

Peter Ren

Good food. Good price during restaurant week

Tatyana Malyutin

First visit. Reading the reviews and seeing the pictures anticipation was high. Can't say it was met judging from this visit. Had 4 courses: Octopus pastrami and Seafood Sultz for apps (both C), Garganelli and Tagliatelle 2nd course (B and B-), Striped Bass and Venison 3rd (C and B+), Souffle and Pear tart 4th (A+ and C-). Except of Souffle, Venison and Garganelli all the rest of the food was very disappointing in point of taste. The service was nice but not a kind to leave a great impression and not very professional. The waits between courses were too long and at some times we felt almost abandoned. The value was not good at $250 total for the experience that didn't bring a lot of joy and deliciousness. Can't say we'll be back.

Michael Early

Worth every penny and then some.

Adolfo Winciaspet

Amazing food for dinner. Everything was fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. I love it here.

Wenjie Song

Lovely 4 course meal. The dishes were creative and everything was pretty good. Nicely designed restaurant as well. The flavors weren’t outstanding but it was overall solid and I would recommend it for any occasion.

Roberto Xavier

Fantastic wine list if you have the money to afford it, great food, good service. They just have tasting menus but they are well worth the price.

Adam Gormley

Admittedly this was during restaurant week, but the service was slow and inconsistent (missed appetizer, ~1 hour for drinks). The food was good but wasn't what our group expected overall.

Willing Glatfelter

Food, wine, and service were all top-notch.

Antoine V.

Had a overall pleasant experience at the Bâtard and most of the dish were perfectly executed (e.g. salmon tartare, duck breast and benzino) with a good selection of wine. Others fail to impress: Foie Gras Torchon (starter) or thé Dulcey Chocolaté (dessert) definitely don’t belong to a starred restaurant. Price are reasonable considering the quality of the food and other places in New York. My only disappointment: don’t go there with the expectations of a starred restaurant. Beyond some of the dishes that are not to the level of expectations of a starred restaurant, the place was cozy but definitely too noisy (although this seems like the norm in the US). Also the personal felt clumsy (bread falling when served, bringing up digestives menu in the middle of the diner, taking our bread plate after saying we didn’t want anymore at the moment, coming to often to check if everything is alright or offering additional service), rushing to thank you as they realize we were leaving and there were not at their position). I can’t judge on a single night but the sum of all parts pointed that way and some reviews seem to agree!

Jeff Bade

Unbelievable food, there are no words, just go. Top notch service. Wine list is a little skewed towards the expensive end of the Burgundy region with premier and grand cru comprising the majority of the bottles. However, there are some values to be found.

Wallace Ko

2nd attempt. Cozy, warm evening. Got a final grilled chicken that evening, amazingly tasty. Wine was awesome too

Wenzel Srb

Pure excellence. Food was amazing, staff was solid. We have been a party of 10 and had an amazing time. Prices are decent for New York, helps as well :)

Guoying Zhong

This is my second time visit Bâtard. It’s a really nice restaurant with great environment. Pretty hard to find from outside tho. All dishes are pretty and a little bit too salty. The octopus dish is their signature dish, look really cute, taste okay. Love their Italian wedding soup and the pear dessert that comes with a cheese flavor

Jason Torquato

Excellent food, very good service

Michael Pang

Tasty food with neat presentation

Simon Markowski

Great restaurant with plenty of selection! Everything we ordered was fantastic. Highly recommend the duck, it melted in your mouth and was so flavorful. The dishes are smaller which is nice so you can get a wider range of tastes from one meal.

Charles Schupp

Outstanding!!

Lou Rudy

Four of us went in the night before Thanksgiving. We all had the 4 course tasting menu and a few bottles of wine. All I can say is, Wow! Did not disappoint on any level. We went in thinking it was going to be great and it was. I really hated it to end. The food was beautiful and balanced. The wine that our waiter (might even be a Sommelier) was a perfect match. Can't wait to give it another go.

matthew o'haver

Fantastic overall experience on Thanksgiving 2017. Amazing desserts!

Wing Cai

The atmosphere was great but the food and drinks were mediocre. Just too normal.

September 22, 2018 This past Saturday night we made plans to have dinner at Batard, I've been there more then most of the guests so I'm quite familiar with the management and staff. We all new ahead of time that we'd be in for a culinary delight along with text book service. Our reservation was for 8:30 and by 8:35 we had all arrived were and seated at the table we had requested. Our server came over and introduced herself and the sommelier walked over to greet me and I introduced him to the rest of our party. The ladies decided on the 2 course dinner and my friend and I naturally opted for the 3.For the appetizers the ladies had a grilled Spanish Octopus with red pepper, germ lettuce, queen olives and almonds, an excellently composed dish. The other lady had the Summer Salad with cherry tomato, fired zucchini, yellow squash accompanied with fresh dill.My friend had the Yellow-fin Tuna Crudo with avocado, crispy quinoa and black lime. The flavor profile was really amazing. I had the Foie Gras & Rabbit Terrine with hazelnuts, sugar plums along with pickled vegetables. If this is a dish your taste buds are used to it was wonderful. For our mid-course we both as it turned out ordered the same dish which was the Garganelli which consisted of the garganelli, duck confit, heirloom tomatoes and summer beans. This dish was executed perfectly. for the entree course my wife went with the Halibut along with "fairy-tale eggplant, (which sold her on the dish,) chanterelles along with a smoked chile. It really was delicious, nothing was left on her plate. My other friend had the Branzino with gold bar squash and a savory tomato chutney. She thoroughly enjoyed it. My friend went with the dry-aged Strip loin with a Parmesan custard, baby carrots and a red wine sauce. While I opted for the Berkshire Pork Schnitzel with a fingerling potato salad and a cucumber mache. Great dishes all of them. Of course we shared a couple of deserts we had the Poached Pears with an almond Florentine, ricotta, along with a brown butter ice cream. The second was the Manjari chocolate tart toasted meringue with an espresso ice cream. We had a wonderful culinary experience which definitely complemented our wines. As always the service is first class and we look forward to our next meal. Thank you! *************************************************************************** A group of us this past April decided to have one of our regular wine dinners, (we bring our on,) at this wonderful French accented establishment. Boy were we in for a shock! We expected good food but what we got was an exceptional meal. We started with the hamachi and steak tartar as our appetizers, (not a hint of egg as a binder either,) from there to the classic foie gras with a spring roll on the side for a crunchy element. Next course was a lobster dish done 2 ways one in a creamy smoked sauce and the other in a pastry crust. For the entrees we shared, the rabbit, duck and the potted chicken. Desert was a cheese offering. Oh yes the wines were extraordinary. We were treated like royalty and the service was spot on. If you like your wines and have a few nice ones, and want to compliment them with great food and service here’s the place to dine!

Jane Paik

Had a lovely anniversary dinner here. Highly recommend going in on a date night or a small group of friends...service and food was 5 stars. Will be back!

Joanna Strange

God the food here is amazing and the desserts are even better. It's not that expensive, and it is totally worth every penny.

Scott Strait

The atmosphere is nice and I like the concept of the restaurant but I do not think I will personally return. The wine list is to long, the menu is a little confusing, $98/person for 4 courses. Courses were much larger than they needed to be and each course came with at least 1 flaw. Foie gras was way to big and pickled vegetables were over powering, squid was slightly overcooked, duck was salty and the skin was not very crispy along with a greasey onion rings. The dessert was nearly perfect but I definitely expected more from this place. I will say staff was incredible and the atmosphere was pretty nice. Overall a nice dining experience but not sure it was worth the $700 check for 4 people.

Rachel Lheureux

An absolutely exquisite meal! The wine is divine, the food impeccable, and the staff charming. The chocolate tarte was out of this world! A comfortable, elegant meal.

Jennifer Evans

Delicious food and amazing service

Jenny

We came here for one of my friend's birthday dinner. The place looks smaller than we thought. The service was great! The food was delicious. I had the octopus, grilled very well and it went well with the spicy sauce. My main course was the dry aged strip lion, cooked medium rare. Which melted in my mouth with the butter.

alexis ching

Xmas Eve dinner was well-executed, delicious and we received a lot of extras. 7 "courses" of dessert, including bourbon macarons! I'm not a huge fan of tasting menus but this was a good one.

Ai Ai

Very delicious food, very good environment, warm service

Kim Davidson

I patronized this restaurant during restaurant week and every thing from the food to the service was amazing. I would recommend this place.

Kelly Lowry

Batard carries a reputation for having some of the finest French food and wine in NYC. I do not know why. The appetizers we had were fabulous (grilled octopus, tagliatelle with shiitake mushrooms, and a penne pasta with a delicious lamb-tomato sauce). I'll give them that. But the entrees were abysmal. The strip steak was tough and not very flavorful; I almost could not cut it with the steak knife they gave me. The duck was overly fatty and the meat was tough. The sauteed greens served with the steak were way, way over-salted, and the portion of sweet potato puree was laughably slight. The dessert was massively disappointing. There were too few choices, and the items we selected were badly prepared and just did not taste good. The restaurant offers a miraculous number of Burgundy wines, which is a good thing. Although such a long list could be intimidating, the sommelier was both knowledgeable and friendly. He did a great job of disarming the wine list. High marks there. And although the wine he suggested married well with the meal, it was marked up to just shy of $200. That same bottle is available at retail for $42. A five-fold increase? Not OK. I regret not looking it up on my iPhone before ordering it. Finally, although the decor is pleasant, and the waitstaff were professional and polite, the atmosphere by the middle of the meal was overbearing. My date and I could not hear one another on the other side of a small table. The restaurant should consider installing baffles, curtains, rugs on the walls, or something to dampen sound. This is the first negative review I've ever written about a restaurant. Sorry to do it, but folks should know what they're getting into.

Alan Villalon

Amazing food especially at the price. Most extensive wine list I have ever seen.

Doug Sisk

Incredible value for the Restaurant Week! Service was exceptional and the food was more than deserving of a Michelin star.

Jason O' Brien

Very surprised at only 4.3 rating. The food service and ambience is all 5 star. A fine dinning experience on par with Jean George except portions are a little larger and price point is a little lighter on the wallet. I would highly recommend for a real NYC high end experience this is a great place to dine.

K Henriquez

The food is amazing... the carrot soup, chicken & quail.

Shaik Taher Ullah

Amazing staff and great food! I definitely want to give a big thanks to the kind soul who made my drink. The orange blossom flavors did wonders!

Gerard Corsini

What stood out to me last night beyond the high-quality and thoughtful preparation of the food offerings (which were indeed delicious and deserving of Batard's prestigious awards and recognition) was not only the professionalism but also the grace and warmth of the service and staff. Beginning with the making of my reservation with John until my departure, I felt genuinely welcome, receiving a warm reception on my arrival from Jennifer, Irivette and the Maitre'd, Adam, and again when seated at the bar from Kelly who made sure that my selections would please, with each dish ordered presented like a polite offering. Many great restaurants can have impeccable service, but it is all the more special when on rare occasions like last night those attending you themselves take pleasure in your having the best possible dining experience--something one cannot demand as part of even great service but something all the more enriching, especially when the food is worthy of the visit. So, I thank those who made me feel both welcome and at home as if I had been a long-standing customer. Service should not discriminate, and last night it most certainly did not, allowing me to enjoy a wonderful squash soup with red cabbage that was as visually appealing as it was delicious and an extremely satisfying homemade pasta with pork ragu accompanied by excellent wine parings remembered all the more for the warm and gracious atmosphere of the evening.

David Goldstein

Exquisite. Everything on point.

MLG

Had a lovely meal myself and everyone else in my group throughly enjoyed themselves as well. Cannot wait to return.

Nic Farhi

Nice, but not amazing

Yichun Hu

Food is very good and the service is soooooo good.

Leon Lin

Batard was well executed, mostly traditional style French at a reasonable price point for an upscale restaurant. Liked the bread, agnolotti, and the Sea bass supplement was excellent, buttery and firm. Friends tried a souffle which was huge. Would come back.

Michael Stanley

Only had a drink at the bar, but the decor is beautiful, staff is friendly, cocktails were very good, and the food looked very good. Love ok forward to eating here sometime.

GoldenChicken

I ordered a carrot soup and a vegitarian pasta. The soup was very good. The pasta came with a unique taste. Overall, it's a French restaurant that deserves a visit to test it out.

Alex Liu

Food is good, pretty much what you'd expect from a Michelin-starred place. Some dishes were a little disappointing, though, acceptably good but not outstanding. The service is pretty much flawless.

Roberto Global Assets

Service was onpoint..Food was excellent..No real bar scene or area.

p hd

Poor experience, waiter was worned down and giving attitude. Definitely not worth the price tag. Foie gras torchon was just some paté with a bit of foie gras in it, couldn't eat it as the taste of paté was just too strong for the delicacy of foie gras. Wine by the glass was cold, client experience was horrible. Save yourself the 500$, avoid

Morgan Schofield

Nice atmosphere, not inexpensive but high quality. Amazing wine list. The food is delicious but RICH. Lobster and beef tartare we're top notch. Well deserved Michelin star.

Steve Cheung

Had an excellent dinner at Batard. The food was excellent, we ordered one 4 course and one 3 course dinner. The highlights of the night were the foie gras($15 supplement), and the duck breast. The grilled Spanish mackerel and octopus pastrami were also excellent. The grilled sea bass was a touch over cooked but still very well done. For dessert the Panna Cotta was very pretty and rich, my personal preference would have been for it to be a bit lighter, still a great dessert. The chocolate mousse was rich and decadent, and paired perfectly with the tart sorbet. Our server was friendly but forgetful. I ordered an apperitif which never arrived, my wife asked for some hot water which he never brought. Overall, an enjoyable dinner.

Rafael Yau

I had the pleasure of dining in batard great experience due to the service I received and the food was amazing. The staffs are nice and helpful with all the question I asked. I recommend trying the pea soup and the rabbit in flavors of bouillabaisse. Overall this is an awesome restaurant and definitely in my top 10 restaurants to try.

Anthony Muljadi

Absolutely fantastic food, service, and ambiance. Should have two Michelin stars. Was so delighted!!!

dillan james

this was amazing experience.. the food and the wine were outstanding... make sure you ask the sommelier for suggestions... he was great!

Adam Wozney

I know what you're thinking. Only 3 stars? What's this guys problem? He must be a real jerk to give a fancy place only 3 stinky stars. Well, I'll tell you something Jerry, this place was over priced. So just be aware of that trend. Food was nice,I suppose, but as I said before, overpriced. Sorry Batard. Also, get rid of that little squiggly line above the a in your namesake. No one is impressed except for Jerry.

Alex Alben

Not an inexpensive restaurant but good bang for the buck for the quality of the food and service. The Lobster Tagliatelle was a knockout.

Casey McCarthy

Amazing French cuisine. Great place to go for a special event.

mike chan

Best chicken I have ever had. Some juicy and soft. Good service.

Olivier Manhattan

Pleasant casual-chic space, although a bit loud when the restaurant is full. Service was efficient, knowledgeable, and friendly. The sommelier was helpful. Food was good. Foie gras was surprisingly wrapped with pâté, and served with granola. Scallops were delicious, best part was probably the lemony quinoa. Oysters were disappointing with their avocado mousse (enough with avocado!). Soufflé was spectacular, although a bit too sweet for my taste. Great wine list.

Benny Smith

Delicious, great meal and company, friendly staff and bartender. Do not skip dessert!

Steve C 032

This place is so good! The truffle app is delicious. The octopus pastrami is so good. We really dig the farfalle. There's so much flavor to it. The service has always been superior at this restaurant. Even the GM was very nice, professional and accommodating. I forget what dish it was, but consisted of heirloom carrots. I really miss Corton; the restaurant that used to be at his location, but Batard is so good, it's made the Corton separation very easy. I'm so grateful for Batard being the restaurant that replaced Corton.

Sissi McEvoy

Food is decent for the price. Sommelier is a bit condescending tho.

Alexandra S

The service was amazing, but I expected a lot more given the price and its Michelin star status

Stasia Arts

Service was amazing and the food delicious. Well worth the pricetag :)

Andris Dzeguze

Amazing food. #batardfamily

Trevor Sumner

Amazing wine list meets impeccable small plates. Highly recommend.

Hellenic 91

Exquisite place known for their wine list (primarily from the Burgundy region). Reasonably priced as well!

Jaiyoung Sun

Beautiful

Nerthis M.

Outstanding experience. Delicious food and attentive non imposing service.

Scott Kohner

Wonderful place! Amazing food, wine, service and atmosphere!

Adrian Brügger

Fresh, modern Michelin fare in cozy upscale atmosphere without the pretension.

Marley Bonilla

Everything was fantastic. The ambiance was great, the food was amazing. I just wish that they had given us more bread! Our server was really helpful in our wine selection and with our cheese plate selection (not shown in the picture). The only sad part was the night flew and before we knew it we were on dessert. It was a great price for a 4 course menu and I really recommend the pork belly and the duck breast.

Yiwen Di

Appetizer s are great!

Raquel Teixeira

Simply amazing!

H P

The food was certainly a Michelin star caliber, except for the desserts specially the sorbets could be better in my opinion. Duck and lobster were exquisite, same for beef tartar. Cauliflower soup was in particular a bit cold. Cheese plate is a must! Finally service was just ok, certainly could be better specially for a Michelin star restaurant.

Brayden Mora

Agree with another reviewer, this is a Gem. Cozy setting, excellent service and fine dinning. That is a winning mix! We can argue indefinitely which had the best this or that among best restaurant, but at batard you can be sure to have a culinary experience. Our preferences from our tasting: citrus hamachi best in town. The maine lobster appetizer, fennel salad both delish. Aged Duck breast excellent. I also like the formula: each dinner can order as many or as little course as he wants. Will go back

Nick Sanchez

Amazing food and service!

Bart Rosenthal

Would have given it a 4.5 if that was an option. Delicious, unpretentious and different. I love the uniqueness of the menu and the minimalist ambiance. Definitely worth making a trip for the mushrooms, cod, and yellowfin tuna. Their version of a Manhattan was a top notch drink.

Lisa

Outstanding meal, great atmosphere and service. We went for restaurant week and started with the cheese plate which was excellent, and I had the salmon appetizer which was refreshing and delicious, and a good sized portion. As my main, I had the risotto with roasted squash and the wild mushrooms as a side...both incredible. The risotto was cooked perfectly. For dessert I had the blueberry olive oil cake which, of course, was excellent as well. This was an amazing restaurant week find.

Mahima Srivastava

Excellent meal at this famous Michelin star restaurant. We came for restaurant week and had an excellent meal. We tried the salmon rilette, mushroom and cauliflower, trout, pasta, chicken sausage and chocolate mousse dessert with cashews. Everything was very good. We also got the summer cocktail part of restaurant week menu.

Seadon Shouse

Phenomenal... Pithivier and Gamay Pairing was exceptional. Will be back for sure. Highly recommend.

Yishan Wang

Terrible food and service. It was a long time ago that I went - but every time when I saw this restaurant on the map...I would still feel angry about it. The server explain the menu impatiently and was very disrespectful when I asked him if I can have the food recooked to a medium well.

Ezio T

a little expensive but cozy and good food. highly recommend appetizers, there is butter toast slice bread come with one of appetizers is so good

Lev Wilke

We visited during Restaurant Week. It was delicious. Everything! The food, the cocktails, the wine. Great service and we even got a little surprise, because we mentioned our honeymoon! Will be back!

Steve Welgoss

Came on a Monday to take advantage of no corkage fee, which is an amazing way to enjoy a Michelin-starred meal without adding another hundy to the bill. Food was, as expected, outstanding, and the service was really top-notch.

or yaacov

Amazing food, such fresh salmon which is made exactly the right way, the risotto had suchgood flavor, which was incredible also as much as the chocolate tart. Highly recommended.

David K.

Outstanding food, decor and service!

Matt Lumley

Excellent high quality and very tasty food!

Melchior du Boullay

Really enjoyed it. Food was unbelivable. Staff is great and ambiance is quite enough to enjoy a discussion with friends.

Anni Bellasnow

Great food, great service :)

long bride

Came here to celebrate a birthday, food, service and ambience were top notch. They did a really good job with all the food, but what surprised me the most was the pasta. I'm normally not a pasta person, but their pasta was absolutely perfect in texture and balance of flavors. Even if you don't want to order it just for yourself, maybe just order it to share at the table because it was delicious albeit very rich. I would also say that this is a pretty decent tasting menu deal for the price and quality in NYC. You get to choose your courses from any item on the menu.

Tim Goebel

Interesting menu, great food and cocktails, and a very extensive wine list. I highly recommended and can't wait to go back!

Jason Wagg

The address is known for exceptional French cuisine, and Batard is further proof of this mastery. The food is exceptional. I strongly suggest the Octopus Pastrami, which is one of the most remarkable preparations I have encountered. The Halibut and Duck are both superb, both in taste and presentation. My favorite dessert was by far the Caramelized Milk Bread, which was delicate and elegant in the way that only a real French restaurant can carry. I drank champagne while I was there but am eager to explore their extensive cellar next visit.

Panuruj Khambanonda

Had a excellent anniversary dinner

Max White

Sometimes it’s a long wait but it's worth the WAIT. Food is always fresh and hot and i love dinning here with my family!!

Shitai Zhang

We tried Batard during the restaurant week. Fantastic food and excellent services! Every course is well-prepared and can always surprise you in the touch of the food and the delicate taste. Would definitely visit again!

Leah Cheng

Mediocre food, unimpressive decor. Decent service.

Karim Sleiman

Creative efforts are obvious and appreciated in appetizers such as the octopus pastrami, which don't live up to expectation and could use more spices and flavour. The trout with baby carrots is succulent and the lemon-based sauce is a perfect fit, however the Brussels sprouts were a disappointment. The crême brûlée was well balanced and aromatic without excess sweetness. Atmosphere is nice and calm but the bathrooms were not well isolated from the main dining hall. Abhinav Golas

Honestly, expected more from a Michelin 1-star considering the other 1, 2, and 3 star places I've tried. The food was so-so and the service left much to be desired. The cocktails were better in comparison.

Phillip Kuan

Amazing service, great food! Delicious and inventive flavors. The Split Pea Parfait was an eye opener. Yum yum!

Chen-Hsuan Lin

Great service and great food :)

Sunil Sanwalka

Great tasting menu . And service

For a special occasion, it was perfect. The food was fantastic and, while it's definitely not "cheap" (by any stretch of the imagination), it's also not overpriced for the overall experience. In all honesty, for the food quality, location, and the fact that it now carries a Michelin Star, I'd actually say this is reasonably priced. We've eaten in lesser restaurants and paid more. The thing that stood out the most for our dinner experience at Bâtard was the attention to detail. From the techniques used in the food and the plating, to the service and little touches from the staff that make all the difference. We were treated wonderfully and left extremely satisfied.

3rd time here. Outstanding as usual. You can see the hamachi yellowfin, foie gras, duck breast, lamb ragu, carrot salad. All were delicious. Service was very attentive without being intrusive. Duck breast is always my favourite. Special mention for the yellowfin though.

Food is ok, would want to come back to taste some more dishes on the menu. Service is below average for Michelin one star.

Had a great experience for my bday! Everything was cooked to perfection and full of flavors. Their service was very attentive and their course menu is very reasonably priced. Would definitely go back!

Wonderful tasting menu. I particularly liked the octopus 'pastrami ', very creative.

One of the best meal I’ve ever had though I found some of the dishes to be a lotto bit too salty. The hamachi and the duck breast were my favorites. The waiter knew about the food really well and was able to give good recommendation. Overall, food is amazing, the service is great and the price is reasonable.

Batard is always one of the most compelling choices for New York City Restaurant Week, because it is the only participating restaurant with a Michelin star. And it didn't disappoint. All the dishes were perfectly balanced, and the service was simply impeccable. I just wish the summer flavors were a tad more intense. I was waiting for the richness of corn and vibrancy of the tomatoes (from the fish dish) to explode in my mouth like a burst of summer, but it didn't. It was more like a lady walking in the park with a parasol, refined and delicate.

This is the old Montrachet spot - but Drew has really outdone himself. The space is BEAUTIFUL. The food is delightful and amazing (and always changing). Not a good bar restaurant, but great for a special occasion. I live in TriBeCa and consider this one of my neighborhood's highlights. The GM (Susan) is amazing - and the wine team is fantastic.

Food and service are OK. But definitely Not impressive. Don’t be attracted by the Michelin star.

Overall, the service was very poor and the meal lasted 3 hours, which left me with a bad impression. Our drinks, which we ordered at the bar well before being seated, did not arrive till long after we sat down and inquired about them. While ordering, we asked the waiter to highlight the gluten-free options but he seemed unsure of himself, so we gave him a chance to confirm with the kitchen to which he declined. We then asked for some more time to review the menu, but unfortunately the waiter never came back, so we had to flag down somebody else. After finishing our drinks, we ordered a bottle of wine. We had finished over half of that by the time our first course arrived (and we were not chugging it by any means). The food was tasty, but some of the arrangements are arguably over priced. The bread seemed a little stale. The salad option was well prepared and had a good flavor, but came out to be $20 for what amounted to some grilled vegetables, tzatziki, and a tempura cheese. The drinks were also around ~$18 which, I suppose, is average for a higher end place, but were not very creative or unique. The octopus and duck, however, were both very good and well worth ordering. I'd stick with the two course option vs the three, therefore.

Fine dining food, setting, and service without the pretense.

Good food with prix fixe menu...Mixed food and wine selection though ...service a bit pushy and pricing on the high side

This is a cozy restaurant reminiscent of fine dining from years past. We dined here last weekend. The service is attentive but not overbearing and fussy, the food is delicious and none of micro food or overly complex nonsense. Sometimes you just want to enjoy your meal with a long explanation as to what you are eating. We ordered the Hamachi, Quail and Duck. All the courses were fabulous. The kicker is that this is very reasonably priced for the food and service. Should have come down sooner.....

Elegant, unfussy, uncluttered. First rate food, flexible menu and first rate hospitality from a professional yet laid back staff

Vivian Lu

The food was good and the ambience was quiet and private. This seems like a good spot for a date, and the restaurant week menu was a really great deal! I recommend giving this place a try.

We were on vacation in NYC for my wife’s birthday. We decided to try several Michelin star restaurants during our visit. Batard did not disappoint and frankly was a better experience than another similar French cuisine restaurant we tried a few days earlier. We were impressed with the classic dishes such as steak tartare and the duck. Overall the meal was excellent and well-paced. Although we did not try the cheeses, we sat near the cheese station and it appeared that they had a selection of authentic cheeses, at least judging by the smells.

Finally ate here for summer restaurant week after wanting to for years only to be disappointed. Service was a bit lacking but it was last service on a Tuesday night, I had to ask several times for bread. Food was good but not exceptional like I had anticipated. We had the pork terrine which was interesting, the trout which was delicious and the blueberry olive cake which was delightful, I was expecting to be blown away but nonetheless still a solid meal.

Upscale French cuisine. Service is excellent

Great experience from beginning to end. Well prepared, well presented flavorful dishes, wine list with great choices for every budget. Professional service. Will definitely be going back !

Came with a group of 8, my wife plus six family members that were in from Boston/DC. We picked Batard because (1) I thought the food would be solid, (2) approachable for a diverse crowd, (3) they allow corkage, and (4) have a rep for good service. Pleasing family is always a tall order. Batard excelled on every metric. We've spent far more money for lesser meals. Everyone was happy. No complaints from anyone, about anything. A real rarity. Only time I can ever recall. Ever. The creativity in presentation and knife skills really stood out.

Lenny Simone

1 of the best! Steak Tartare, Duck Breast, Lobster, each dish was perfect. Souffle was a spectacular presentation! Wine list fairly priced, many reasonable beers also. Excellent service. 1 minor complaint was on the coffee served. Had the 4 course option and would highly recommend that. Even the tiny dinner roll was excellent!

Murali Sankar

Our visit to Batard was an unfortunate disappointment in most ways. The food was ok, even good, but nowhere near great. Service was trying, but appeared a little confused (two competing waiters?), and forgot our drinks on the bill. When we alerted them to this, there was barely any reaction ("oh sorry"). Decor was not my taste - but that's ok. However the bathroom was disgusting. All in all not what I had hoped for especially for a Michelin wannabe.

Paul Sethi

Service, wine selection (TY to asst somm) , food all outstanding. This was a ten out of ten, again! The tagliatelle is not to miss.

Jon H

Great new restaurant. Interesting new dishes, great staff

Robert John

Great place to go for a dinner with your friend. I loved the roasted quail and beef tartare. Great environment with excellent customer service

Carin Whitaker

We had the two course prix fix dinner. The first course, Spanish octopus with grilled baby romaine was outstanding. Octopus portions was quite generous, olives, dressing and sauce all married well with the tender charred octopus. My second course was roast skate with crispy skin...squash was crisp tender and the skate was lovely with a buerre blanc sauce. My dining companion ordered the halibut and said it was equally well prepared... seasoning on the fish had an Asian influence but was a perfect compliment. We finished with macarons...

Booked with friends this restaurant for restaurant week with high hopes because it won an award in 2015 When I arrived I got surprised first before my the state of the toilet and by the fact that it was a garage for chairs that are usually inside the restaurant it seems not really clean to do so and the it was coordinate with the toilet cleanliness poor Then the first dish arrived and I was hopeful the bursts on a toast was really good and for once tomato tasted liked tomato It all went down from there the entree was catcalls with mushroom and aspargus it arrived almost cold with corn on it that was not on the menu and only the cuts of aspargus no head The mushroom sauce was more like a broth and I asked my plate to be changed I received another one without corn and the pasta was not cooked properly and was dry like if it stayed on a plate for hours the sauce/broth was almost inexistant and it was a disaster I didn’t eat it I couldn’t The waiter waited for my friends to finish their dish to come and pick up mine that has been on the side for at least 10 minutes he barely asked me why I didn’t touched it and made not excuse Then dessert we all took the pate à chou and once again disaster it was filled with cream and blueberry jam the Chou was to wet and flavorless I didn’t eat it either this time nobody even asked about it I got a discount for my pasta and that was it So clearly I can’t recommend this restaurant to anyone I have never been disappointed by a choice during restaurant week until now and it was this time a massive failure Definitely skip this restaurant on your list

Exceptional French cuisine that's both modern and delightful. The flavors were all pleasing, rich yet subtle. Hamachi and beef tartare appetizers were super fresh. Squash blossom farci was beautifully plated. The roasted foie gras was perhaps the best I've ever tried. The outer skin was perfectly roasted just to give a hint of flavor and crispiness. We tried the striped bass, strip loin and aged duck for main course. Again, all three dishes were made to perfection. Finally, all of the desserts were just flat out amazing. Everyone at our table were speechless as we devoured everything in sight. As if that wasn't enough, the wine selections were all great. The sommelier was knowledgeable and helpful.

Chris Bonica

The food and service is excellent, the room is beautiful and cozy and the cocktails were great. What a great meal/experience.

Restaurant week. 5-star recommendation for all!

Had a great experience for my bday! Everything was cooked to perfection and full of flavors. Their service was very attentive and their course menu is very reasonably priced. Would definitely go back!
