Good beer menu, enjoyed the music and the food. The mac & cheese app was a real treat. Light and creamy with the toasted panko on top. Easily my #2 favorite mac & cheese so far. My burger was big and juicy. The best thing about it was they focussed on making a good burger first and then adding bells and whistles after. I've been to a few burger bars where they go out of their way to make some ridiculous concoction of a sauce or some overpriced and exotic ground meat but White Star didn't do that to me. I got a good burger and had a good time with my wife here.

This is always a cozy place with great staff and a really impressive menu that offers not only what is said to be the greatest Burger of Jersey City, but also a delectable array a vegetarian options. The beer list is impressive as well. The prices are reasonable. The location is far enough off the Beaten Track that you can usually find a spot even with a short wait. We can brunch can be a little bit busy so plan ahead.

Outstanding Nachos if you like creamy, cheez whizzier goo, heaped with spicy ground meat. If don't like that, you probably stink as a human. Double Cheese burger was juicy and very tasty!! Fries are super crispy beer battered wonder sticks. Very nice IPA selections! Cheers!

Exchange place burger was delicious. Perfectly cooked and flavor was fantastic. Upgraded to truffle fries but they forgot. I mentioned it and they took it back to "exchange" but all they did was pour "truffle oil" over my original fries. So that was meh.

I've always loved White Star Bar. Even when they changed the menu, upped the prices a little, I get it. Times are changing in the neighborhood and they need to change with them. They did a great job renovating a few years back and the outdoor seating this year looks very cozy. My go-to for a crispy chicken sandwich.

First of all, everyone on the staff I've ever encountered here has been super friendly and seemingly amazing people. Of course I don't know this, I just have to assume. But even if they are horrible people, it does not show in their customer service. As for the food, I feel like it's a little bit better than typical bar food. The namesake Burger was just okay. And Fries are a little small for my taste. The atmosphere is usually pretty good as well. Overall this is one of my favorite places to go in Jersey City. Not that I go out much because, you know, I have no friends.

Extremely attentive bartenders; I came here and sat alone at the bar but I felt like I was talking to friends. Drinks and food are pub quality (read: good, but won't knock your socks off), but with a reasonably full bar they brought my order out almost immediately. They run specials on Sunday and it's not too loud even when busy; I'd consider lazily doing laptop work (hot spot off a phone) here some afternoons.

Great local spot. Good variety on the menu so there's usually something for everyone. If you have the choice, definitely try the Brunswick Street location as opposed to the Paulus Hook location. Very cool, relaxed vibe.

If you're looking for a lighter option, the Black Kale Caesar is the way to go. Nicely dressed crunchy kale, croutons, Grana Padano and your choice of chicken, salmon, steak and even a burger on top makes my ordering an easy choice when I'm not quite hungry enough for the burger.

Next on my list is their Nachos that come with beef chili, pico & sour cream, and that delicious Texas queso that came on my friends cheese fries! Normally White Star is a great place for delivery but this time my pregnant wife ordered a ton of items to be delivered to our place last night. One of the items being buffalo chicken tenders. Luckily she filled up on most of the other items so I took the largest tender and started eating. I got to the large end and noticed it was squishy thinking it was just the breading since it has been sitting for awhile. I took a look and noticed it was completely RAW!! I already ate over 75% of this thing. I spent the rest of the night in the bathroom and finally got around to let everyone know watch out for the chicken at this establishment. This could have done some serious damage if my wife ate this thing but luckily it only caused me a bad night so far.

This place was an absolute delight! It has a very warm and cosy feeling with both tables and booths. They even have outdoor seating. The staff was friendly, attentive and made good suggestions. They’ve a few beers on tap and a good selection of cocktails. But the food was the killer, we had the veggie burger with truffle fries and the buffalo cauliflower. The burger tasted absolutely amazing. Would love to come back again! My only quibble would be that it’s a tad bit on the expensive side to be a regular.

Dive Bar-ish, but the food is good and the drinks are cheap. Crowd is a nice mix of Jersey locals and the new Jersey City crowd, all are friendly. Hang with friends in a booth or have a seat at the bar to watch the game and make a friend.

Great little spot and not too crowded on a weeknight. I stop in here whenever I'm looking for a quieter spot to watch a sporting event and am never disappointed. The staff is extremely personable and ready to give their recommendations on food and drink. Food is always tasty! If you're looking for a bar in this little corner of Downtown JC theres no reason to go anywhere else

We went there for lunch. The waitress was huddled in the corner with the bartender for most of the time we were there. She barely checked on is and when we asked her for stuff she would only take one request before she ran off ignoring everyone else's requests. We waited 15 minutes before she checked in on us so that we could order more drinks. We tried to wave but they didn't even notice. A table of 8 were about to walk in and before they walked in she kept repeating no, no, no. The place wasn't even packed. Wish I could tell you her name but she didn't have a name tag on nor did she tell us her name. Service was terrible. The food was good tho.

A group of 3 of us popped in for some dinner after a ceremony at Liberty Landings Marina. We all had steak and it was fantastic. The asparagus was delicious, the potatoes were cheesey and creamy and the steak was cooked to perfection. The service was quick and our waitress was very friendly. I would recommend this place to everyone!

July 3rd before the holiday. Walked in@9:35. Asked to a waiter to be seated outside, he told me to wait and never came back. Ask to order food kitchen closed and not even 10pm, 9:45 at that moment. People were looking to close rather than serving. Let’s just say the bar was ready for the next days service. First try, last try...I never write reviews. Go figure.

Similar to the last review - normally White Star is good. Apparently something has gone very wrong. My wife and I had food poisoning from this location. We had cheeseburgers. Not sure if it was the lettuce on the burgers or the burgers themselves? I have never vomited from food before. Vomited 5 times...enough said. Steer clear.

He is so impatient, Disrespectful, and the place will lose customers just because of this old creature. And when i ask for a manger to talk to he hung up on me. So disappointed. I used to order near 5 times a week. Now I barelly make orders there just because of him.

Nice local spot. My friends live near hear and we stopped in. I think they may be a bit understaffed at lunch but the food was good. They have 16 beers on tap and feature a nice local selection. We are a fan of the truffle fries. They make a great appetizer.

Went here with my brother who is a regular. The place is a good size, not huge but not small. Had their white star burger, it's a decent sized burger, cooked well and quite tasty. Would definitely recommend this place to grab a drink and watch sports or whatever. Getting the food was a bit slow but didn't take forever.

Best burger I've ever had. The meat and bread are so fresh, as well as all the accompaniments. Set on the corner in the Hamilton Park neighborhood, it may not be what you expect, but the bar matches the feel of the area. They have a nice beer and drink selection, and a great brunch on the weekend.

Great pub-feel bar. Good beer selection usually, with nice and responsive wait staff. Burgers are great, good quality meat and nice toppings. If you get fries, go ahead and get the truffle fries. Worth the extra couple bucks! Edit (15May2018): Not thrilled with being overcharged for the 'Monday Special' burger and beer deal. I was charged full price for everything and upon leaving heard the waitress at the bar say to the new customers coming in the door that they would get the Monday Special 'no problem'. Selective discounts aren't right. I hope the waiter just made a mistake but it has cooled my warm feelings for this bar. Not sure I'm going to be rushing back soon.

In three years I have not eaten a single bad thing here. The cooks just know what the hell they are doing. Its all good. Like I would be legitimately shocked if someone found some fault with the stuff coming out of either location's kitchen.
