I love Tao’s food and always consider it a treat when I make a trip there, usually for special occasions or even their lunch special. Almost all items on the menu are very well made. I love the sea bass and I think the fish are my favorite things on the menu. For some reason the desserts do not appeal to me and I am a very big dessert person. Our fortune cookie was unfortunately all very stale, which was disappointing to my guests from out of town considering how much I talk up about this place and the perfect experience I wanted them to have. I love the atmosphere and the giant Buddha statue, it is one of the biggest reason why I like this place so much.

Beautiful place, very good food but unfortunately bad service. We were in our last nigh in NYC and reserved a table at the TAO uptown on a Friday night 22:15 h to celebrate our trip and regretted very much. We arrived on time for our reservation and even with the restaurant half full only the hostess made us wait for 30 min for a table. On the table the food came fast but we could not really enjoy the time as the waiter was pushing us to keep ordering stuff. I was not even finished with my first drink and she was already pushing me to order another one. After I finished my meal she rushed us with the desert menu. I was not even ready to think about it so I asked to skip for the time. Then she came already with the check. All this in less the 40 minutes. I felt that I was In a fast food place. The only thing that saved was that after telling the story to the manager of the place he truly apologized for the situation and offered as another drink. I am adding this comment because I believe that a nice place as this should be more carefull in instructing the waiting team to leave the customer to experience the place and have a good time.

Apart from the non-English speaking hostess's initial mishap, we had a good time. My minced Chicken was very spicy and good. My guest's soft ribs were succulent as well. The jasmine rice was dry and tasteless. The cocktails were presented nicely and they had fresh ingredients but the alcohol content was very low. Overall I enjoyed it.

What a freaking nightmare. First, it took them 35 minutes after our reservation to seat us. Then it took an hour plus to get a plate of food on the table. Service was mediocre at best. Waiter tried to make up for lack of attention by being funny. The food tasted fine, but two of my colleagues have violent food poisoning now because of it. One missed his flight home because he is too sick to leave his room. Cool scene, great decor, but I personally will not be going back there. Getting sick at a place with $30+ per dish is ridiculous.

I was intially looking forward to giving this restaurant a great review based on it's popular reputation. I hosted my mother's birthday dinner at this location , and reserved the skybox for all of our guests. While the food was enjoyable and our waiter was on point, the overall experience was tampered with bad service. We were incorrectly told that this place was wheelchair accessible when this is not the case. Two of our guests had to leave because of this error. We were also continuously approached by a security guard who had no empathy towards the situation and kept telling my party to move out of the way. While trying to get the proper resolution to these issues, the restaurant never contacted me back. They were extremely prompt in responses before receiving our total payment, but after they received our money, I never heard back from them; I reached out several times. BEWARE OF BUSINESSES SUCH AS THIS ONE!

This is your go to upscale Asian food spot. You can come here to celebrate a birthday with a big group or it can be a great place for an intimate date. While you wait to be seated there is a bar/ lounge area where a waiter can get you drinks (we went for the red dragon, it was great). The service was prompt, the ambiance was nice and the food was great. We started off with a sushi roll and pork pot stickers. Both tasted really good. The pot stickers were crunchy and hot and the sushi tasted fresh. For our entree we opted for the Singapore Mei Fun noodles and asked for it to come spicy. It was good and spicy but kind of dry so we asked for Hoisoin sauce which made the dish amazing. For dessert we tried the banana pudding which was topped with tempura bananas and freshly cracked wafers. I loved it

Ambience was nice. Food was just ok. Waiter had no personality and didn’t give us much attention. Definately over rated and over priced for the quality. The night could have been salvaged if Tao had gotten my request right. Reserved online on open table and requested a birthday dessert. Backed it up by calling Tao and personally asked them to have waiter bring the Molten chocolate cake with candle out to us. Waiter was never told or just forgot and we never got it. Whole experience wasn’t worth it. Won’t return.

Great place! Been there in multiple times every time was extremely satisfied with the service. It’s definitely our to “go spot” in the city. we been driving over an hour plus and never been disappoint. Great place for a couple or a groups and family. Make sure to make resvention so u not gonna get stuck in line. the place is pretty much pack every night. Food is good nothing too special but its the vibe, environment and service that make it so unique. Enjoy.

The food here was amazing, service attentive, and atmosphere unbelievable. The food was great. We got about three appetizers for our larger group. The duck and spare ribs were sweet ,and the meat well cooked. The pad thai tasted delicious and peanuty still until the next day. Left overs from this palce aren't bad at all. The food might even be better. My sister spilled water and was immediately helped. I also at one point was rendered without a napkin and was given a new one with little prompting There is a giant Buddha that sits at the head of the room. There are two stories that open into eat other. My table had a bed of rose pedals. Check it out.

I brought my son there for restaurant week since I've always raved about the food to him. We whined up ordering off the main menu since the selection was limited on that menu. The food was not consitant. The quality of the food (ribs) and portion size had change. They no longer serve the coconut shimps. The waitress was very attentive and appologentic, however it was not worth what I paid or my time. Happy to learn this with my son because I had planned to bring my coworkers and I would have been terribly disappointed.

The best vibe ever! Very romantic and energetic! There's two seat tables available on the levels of stairs leading down into the main dining area. This offers a great overview of the entire dining room. The food is great and will make you want to come back real soon! For the health conscious, the food selections offer healthier options that you won't feel guilty about eating. There's even a healthy fruit platter dessert option. DELICIOUS! The downtown TAO is good, but no comparison. The atmosphere at this location tops it by far. If you're looking for a rejuvenating, romantic night out, this is your place!

My bf planned me a surprise birthday friends dinner here at TAO. Reservations are required at least a few days ahead if you're with a large group (we had at least 9 of us). The blackened sea bass is phenomenal and everyone's sashimi/sushi looked plentiful. Super dim lit, vibes are hectic as it's packed. Definitely on the expensive side for sushi but it was well worth it. :-) would recommend for a bday / anniversary or if you just feel like splurging on ya girl.

Ambiance was top notch, no argument with that. IMO, Food at PF Change chain tastes better comparatively and charges are exactly half of how much it costs here. I have had better authentic Asian fusion for a reasonable price. Service was not so great. On the whole it was a 2/5 experience. I wouldn't visit this place again, nor would recommend it to someone who is a food lover.

The food was good and our server was attentive! However, our overall experience outweighed the positive aspects. We hosted a birthday dinner for our mother and the restaurant previously told us they were wheelchair accessible. However, at the time of the event, our guest who required a wheelchair was not able to join us in the Skybox area since there was no way to get her up there. On top of that, as we tried to talk to the manager, one of the security guards was trying to get us out the way while trying to resolve the issue. We have been trying to contact someone and a representative said they would call us back but never got back to us.

It’s up and trendy place, very good vibes. However they lack in the most important aspect of a great restaurant - Food and drinks. We were at the lounge first, We ordered 3 drinks, they were very rushed, ready in less than 30 sec, you can imagine how much effort is put in to get it ready, it was basically just liquor and sprite or cola, that’s not a cocktail. We went for food after upstairs, appetizers were decent we got tuna lobster spring roll and tuna Pringle with truffle or something, again for the upscale restaurant those were below average. Lastly the main course, the scallops were really well done, but the curry sauce it came in was overly salty and not tasty at all. We also ordered two rolls, crispy tuna and chefs roll, both seemed very fresh, however they had no taste at all, so again very disappointing experience. It was my fiancé’s birthday and atleast they got the desert right, molten chocolate cake which was good and Neal was our server, he did a fine job. Overall, 1 star for a upscale restaurant, they should have focus more on quality of food and drinks for the price they charge, instead of hosting so many people at a time I would rather host few but provide excellent quality food, drink and service.

Got the fixed lunch menu (appetizer + main + desert) for ~$30, which is actually a pretty deal for the amount of food you receive. The basil chicken wrap was unfortunately really heavily salted but the sashimi bowl was fresh and tasty.

Both excellent food and service. Nothing has changed since we began coming here twelve years ago. The Black Pepper Chili Chicken is delicious. The Thai Green Curry Tsuke Men is one of my favorites. We've had the crispy Thai Rice Ball a few times...that too is good. It gets very crowded and loud in the restaurant, but that's obviously a good thing for TAO. There are many times it was so busy and a fairly long wait, I would instead order to go. Either way, the food and service were good.

Came here for restaurant week lunch. Ordered the spring rolls appetizer, pad Thai main and mango sorbet in coconut milk dessert. The spring rolls were good, pad Thai was okay. I thought it could have been much better. Going forward I will stick to sushi when I come to Tao. The dessert was really interesting. It tasted like a bowl of fruity pebbles and milk. Something different and I would say it was my favorite part of the meal. My only other complaint would be on how slow the service was. Most of us ordered from the restaurant week menu and it took about 10-15 minutes between when they cleared the main to bring out the desserts (which most of us had preordered). Otherwise, the ambiance was nice and food was pretty good.

Our nephew was in town for one night only and we took him to Tao for dinner. I have to say it was a great experience. The food was fantastic, as were the cocktails! The service was excellent too. We started our meal with the special appetizer which was spare ribs in a special rub and the squab lettuce wraps. OMG, delicious! I chose the lettuce wraps after reading about them online and they were terrific. A must have on your visit. The spare ribs were outstanding. They were cooked to perfection. Then we ordered the chicken pad thai and the coconut shrimp. Both dishes were amazing. The shrimp were colossal, the sauce, outstanding. The pad thai was also fantastic. We were so full after eating all of this that we skipped dessert. The table next to us got the giant fortune cookie dessert which looked amazing but, we just couldn't eat anymore. We agreed that we would get one less dish and have room for the giant fortune cookie next time.

Ordered the LUNCH PREFIX and some appetizers After a really bad experience at $248 seasonal tasting menu of Jean-George NYC, I found the food here is good. Tempura is crispy, dumpling, short ribs, and chili all turn out to be good. Mushroom as sides is really good. Service is good even for lunch, our servant definitely is professional. Deduct 1 point for long waiting for the food, 40min for appetizer, 30min for entree, 20min for desert.

My first time going to Tao in NYC and I had a swell experience. I was part of a bridal party of 12. There was a wait period of about 45 minutes to be seated, even though we had reservations... when we got seated, we were attended right away. The staff gave us a good amount of time to get everything in order. The decor was beautiful, we had a tub filled with water and rose petals under our table and a lovely statue right behind us. The drinks were generously strong and the food appetizing. I'd go back but definitely with a smaller group.

My family went there for a birthday celebration for a party of 8 at night. The waiting staff was very friendly. He was courteous and very knowledge of the food and drink menu. This place is very crowded at night because of its popularity but great place to eat nevertheless. The ambience and decor was beautiful and tasteful. Everything we ordered was delicious. The person in the Male bathroom has full view of you in the urinal. Stalls are open most the time so just go there if you're bothered. Good thing there is a waiting room because sometimes waiting time can range to an hour good wait time for a high demand restaurant.

I've been to TOA in LA and this one is no different. Great experience, great staff, great food and surprisingly quick how fast they were able to bring everything out. The specials we're actually pretty interesting and worth checking out. The atmosphere is pretty neat, I always like coming to this place.
