So, the food is average. We got the shrimp appetizer which was meh. The guacamole was good. The staff is average. I ordered a Truly at one bar and asked for the same at the other bar and the server said that they don’t carry that drink at any of the bars.... The views are nice of the boats. Better places in the area. Won’t be back.

Fun place! Went for an after work party for the first time, four yours ago and haven't been back. Had a great time just haven't been back. I liked that you could have a table in the sand or on the deck outside. The mixed drinks were good and the servers were friendly (those things stick in my mind.)

Summary: Nice summer hangout spot with great vibes but average bar food. Full review: Surf City is one of the many summer hangout spots at Jersey City along the shore to enjoy the blissful sun. Recently visited on a Friday night with a group of friends to have a fun casual hangout along the waterfront. The vibe here is really nice, good artificial beach with some bon fires and great seating by the waters. The service was great and the food and alcohol served is decent . But it doesn't do enough justice to the atmosphere and the location around. It could have been a lot better. The menu isn't too vegetarian friendly either. There are just a few options with just a couple good choices. The Mac and cheese we tried was great and the chips with guac was perfect sharable plate. The drinks menu was good enough and there were a couple of bar counters too. Recommendations: Make sure to get seated by the waters or at the bonfire Food: Mac & Cheese, Chips with Gauc

Came out for drinks and ended up having dinner, tried the surf City sunrise cocktail and it was good but more on the sweet side like a frozen mango drink and I didn't really taste the tequila. The margarita was my favorite sweet and tangy with just enough tequila. We shared calamari for appetizers and it was amazing. It's not like other places where they give you a few pieces and then a lot more mixed veggies. Definitely recommend. I had the lobster roll and I was a little disappointed. I wasn't expecting fresh Maine lobster but the lobster salad mix was dry. Also there's no option to get one roll, it's 2 rolls for $22 plus fries and cole slaw which isn't a bad deal at all but if I'd known what the lobster was like I'd have skipped altogether and had something else. If you're looking for a place to chill outdoors with nice view, good music, drinks and friends its a great spot. A little pricey and I didn't see any happy hour deals but along the lines of what you'd get trying to find a rooftop. I would definitely go back

We wanted to have a nice brunch and stumbled upon this place. The service was very slow, especially considering the amount of people there. We ordered the Mexican Sangria bucket and was very dissatisfied with what came out. It tasted so bad we didn't even drink it, we were offered another one so we took the classic White Sangria bucket (it tasted a little better). Unfortunately, the food wasn't that much better. My friend and I thought we'd share the Twin Lobster Po' boys since our server said it was on two rolls (the menu also said it as well). What he failed to mention was, each roll was roughly 3 inches. It did taste pretty good and would have been nice as a meal for one.

Can't go wrong with beach sand and parasols. The food can be hit or miss though, but the fries tend to be consistently nicely crunched albeit maybe aggressively seasoned depending on your preference. Lobster mac 'n cheese exudes a surprisingly luxurious vibe.

This place has food, drinks, and live music. The Baja Burger was good, and the fries that come with it are delicious! The Calamari was very good as well. The Lobsters Rolls on the other hand, were a bit dry for my liking, so I won't recommend them. The drinks are a bit pricey but alright. The live band was good and it gives a nice Caribbean vibe to the whole place which goes really well with the marina atmosphere. The place is very relaxed and they have five different bars where you can get drinks from. They have access to the water so you can park your boat here and enjoy a nice meal and a few drinks. Overall a nice experience.

The crowd, as mentioned, appears a ....melting pot. There's always cougars around or a squad of bros with a jule, slyly blowing a puff off the deck and then concealing it in their pocket and giggling. There's frequently a clique of orangely tanned women wearing those necklaces with their name on them in diamonds, taking insta vids of themselves and laughing way too loud because they had 1 vodka soda with a splash of cran.

I was turned away because my REGISTERED SERVICE ANIMAL was over their “weight limit”. She is a 40lb Shepard/lab mix. I am so disappointed in the ownership of this establishment and I am heartbroken for all of the other patrons who have been and will be turned away with their service animals. I am disheartened. I will never come back here. A place that doesn’t respect service animals and their owners isn’t a place that’s going to profit from my money. SHAME ON YOU SURF CITY.

Nice place to get out and enjoy the summer weather. Water view with lots of boat - watching, live music on the weekends. Only had the Guac and chips and the Safron Rice , so will have to come back again to try some of the seafood plates, All of which looked good and were popular with the guests.

I hate leaving reviews like this. In January, my 28-year-old fiancé was diagnosed with cancer. Unfortunately, he has lost all of his hair, and frequently wears a hat when we go out. We live in the Vantage, steps from Surf City. We went to this establishment on Memorial Day and he was wearing a hat. They let him in, no problem. Tonight, however, was different. The "bouncer" told him he was not allowed in the bar with a hat, so I took the hat for him and said I would put it in my purse. The "bouncer" said that was unacceptable and that the hat needed to be discarded of. This hat has been with us to chemo appointments, doctors appointments and radiation appointments at Memorial Sloan Kettering. When we explained the situation and that my fiancé was a cancer patient, he clearly stated that he didn't care and "it's just policy." YIKES. I asked to speak to the manager, who said that "if we had explained the situation maybe they could make an accommodation." I said clearly that we did explain the situation and the "bouncer" was RUDE and still would not allow us in. At this point, I was crying. Disgusted and horrified (I had people from out of town visiting), I left and went to Lutze, where bald cancer patients wearing hats are welcomed. Surf City is DISCRIMINATORY. Against cancer patients nonetheless. I will never return and ensure that no one I know does either.

Really overpriced for average food. The Lobster Rolls was especially egregious. Nearly $25 for a pitiful amount of lobster. The seating area needs to be cleaned but no does it as far as I know since I was there for 2 hours and saw no cleaners. The wait time for the food was a little much as well, almost 45 minutes but I think that's to be expected since it was the weekend. The drinks are NY prices, a mixed drink was served in a cheap plastic cup and charged nearly $10. Selection was very limited as well. They didn't have cognacs or certain vodkas. If you're craving seafood go to a better seafood place, this place is like what Burger King is to a burger.

I am trying to be respectful here, the security guy was very rude and disrespectful. The bar was supposed to close at 2 am. But we were forced to leave at 1 am when asked about this he stated that the close out time depends on number of people in the bar. We had friend from San Francisco with us. This place ruined our friends night out. Period. Would not recommend this place if you are looking for a peaceful time with your friends

It's a very down to earth kind of vibe. I saw moms with their kids in strollers there lol I'm not judging, just painting the picture. The vibe is definitely beachy. There are boats surrounding you and you get the occasional jet skiers bouncing around. The drinks are super jersey shore, sweet and strong.

The food was acceptable at 3.8, Service rated the same. The venue was like a 3 ring circus, the bar, the self help food concession and the dining with service. The venue was perfectly suited for the 26 to 40 crowd finger food and 2 bottles of white wine was $170.00, automatic 18% gratuities was inclusive in the $170.00. the venue has a boat dock by the restaurant with a view of Jersey City shore and New York skyline. Security personnel were everywhere.most everyone entering were carded..guess security is a necessary evil due to the large occupancy . Normally would prefer a more subdued atmosphere and surroundings but that night skyline and cool river breeze was a real treat.

I’ll need to post this across 23 platforms. A little neglect and no care for children is uncalled for. Umbrellas slide right in the big hole of the table. Again. Just like the table next to us. If I worked a job, I’d do it to my highest capabilities but appears we should feel lucky to be here. Or if I quote the hostest “we are not supposed to such and such”. Excellent food, great entertainment and an atmosphere that promotes a good time. Surf City may be one of my new favorite destinations to eat and meet up with friends. And, the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. I recommend this place to anyone as a destination and not just if you are in the area. Plus they are open until 3am and you are right by the water and the associated activities.

Yacht club open to the public, boat moorings on three sides. Large venue, plenty of seating. Indoor bar, outdoor bar. Menu heavy on crab and lobster (including huge portions of fries), but other selections available. Resort atmosphere, resort prices. Once the weather gets cold, the party can move inside, but outside on a warm evening with an ocean breeze is the real draw.

Solid place to unwind a Friday night! Having your feet in the sand with a drink around a fire with friends and being on the water front watching boats pass by is great. The smell of seafood wafting in the air let's you pretend you're far off somewhere exotic. Multiple bars are convenient if one is too full with people. Or you can have table service in some areas for the restaurant experience. It's mostly open air and not loud if want to have a conversation without screaming.

Nice atmosphere in the sand with the fire pits. It's a kid friendly place so if you're looking to take kids it's a good place for you. If you're looking to avoid kids, avoid the sand beach area.

Too bad it's impossible to give less than 1 star. I had the most unpleasant experience today when I watched a Disabled Veteran denied entry because of her Service Dog on Memorial Day, also Fleet Week. We have dined in 5 star establishments in major cities without incident, it is a real insult to be treated this way by an establishment that we were only patronizing due to it's close proximity to our accommodations. I would only hope that in the future they recognize the error in their ways and treat customers with an once of respect. Don't worry about us or our small circle of Active Duty and Retired Military friends, we will not be returning here anytime soon.

For what it is, this place is great. Outdoor venue with a bunch of beers on tap, that usually has space to sit down (since it's so big). The chips are super stale, but the guac is freshly made so that kind of balances out. The salsa that they bring to the table is straight from a Tostitos jar (so, either terrible, or nostalgic, or something else, depending on your taste). All in all, I like the place and will be returning. Oh, and the lobster rolls are pretty good.

It really is a beautiful place and the food is great. A large outdoor space, with firepits at night and a sand area for a beach like feel. Unfortunately, I can't give more then 3 stars given the poor service staff here. The bartenders are terrible and wait staff have had errors every time I've been there. It's a shame, cause I really do love hanging out here. That being said, just level your expectations with the staff when you go and you'll be fine. Best scenario would be to use the express service for food and order your drinks 2 at a time.

It's a nice spot to chill, great scenery as well. My reason for 3 stars is the food quality isn't that great. Majority of the selections either fried food with fries or yellow rice on the side. The taste is a bit bland as well. My suggestion, update your food menu, add more healthy seafood such as grill or steam selections. Not everyone likes battered fish or yellow rice.

We were greeted by a bouncer type at the door, around noon. He told us that because of how some kids misbehaved recently, if our kids misbehaved in any way, we would be told to leave. Cool vibes from the get go. The waiter seemed cool enough, took our orders right away, and was gone. After half an hour with an empty table I asked him about our drinks. He said they were pretty much ready, just waiting at the bar, and he would bring them right over. After another half an hour, still without any of our orders, I asked about the drinks again. He asked which drinks we ordered and after about 10 min actually brought them. Later, when he brought our check, we were charged twice for the drinks. The food was low end average, the drinks we're pretty horrible (very watered down), everything was expensive. And they charge a mandatory 18% tip (if more than 5 people?), regardless of what you think of the service. The two somewhat redeeming qualities are good location/views and the polite, even if not very useful, waiter.

This place has gone from bad to worse. Their service takes about 30 mins for someone to come help you. The prices have gone up since last summer of 2018. Their dress code gets more and more strict after 6PM, probably to keep a certain demographic out. Pro tip: order your check with a 30 minute anticipation, may take longer. Once was more than enough.

We loved the place. There is free parking right next to the place. You get to look at the busy hudson river. Food and drinks are reasonably priced. Desserts are quite different, I had never seen such menu anywhere else. The restrooms can be a bit cleaner but considering the crowd, its understandable. Forgot to mention that it has seatings for 3 types of people, for the people with kids there is a spot just for the families, there is a spot for the ones who prefer all the crowd and music and for a gathering of friends who just wanna hang and talk. I am the type 3 and that I liked very much about this place. It can get colder as its an open bar so be prepared.

Views and the atmosphere here are incredible. The food has never been amazing. The seafood for a restaurant on the water is mediocre. The rest of the food like wings and burgers are better. The bar however is awesome! Come here for a night or host a party here - it is a great spot.

So, besides the water front and the chill atmosphere, I had the worst first time experience. For starters the alcoholic beverages were just a waste. The food was very disappointing, it lacked flavor and was undercooked. Our server wasn’t too bad, but lacked knowledge in reference to the menu. Not even sure how this is rated as a 4 star restaurant. We complained about the food to the manager and he didn’t even apologize in reference to the horrible food but offered to take the items that was complained about off the bill. Probably won’t ever eat here again!

Well, the lobsters are... so big!!! Very nice dishes, cocktails by the river. They make you feel at home, party atmosphere.

Tried this place for the second time to see if the service had gotten any better because we like the ambiance. For starters, the food is mediocre and service is absolutely atrocious. Sat down at 6:05, was acknowledged at 6:15 and was given warm water with no lemon (after I asked for it 2x). after 35 mins was given a LIME for my empty glass of water that I had already downed. My boyfriend asked for a cider and was given rose and they didn’t tell us that they were out of the cider until I asked if they gave us the right drink. After 45 mins we got our appetizer which was cold. It’s 7:15 pm and we still haven’t received our order of sandwiches (2). How hard is it to put lobster on a slice of toast?!? I don’t understand how this place is still getting customers. All they got going for them is the view to be honest, we will not be returning. Get friendlier staff and a better system because this place is going down the drain.

You guys better get your act together. Summer hasn’t even started and 1 hour to be seated. 42 minutes to even acknowledge my existence and no steamed clams to boot. Still waiting on the my beer and your greeters and waiters/waitresses looks stressed and not happy.

There is a dumb 'no hats' rule. My friend was stopped by the bouncer for his hat, which he had to leave outside, but when we got in we saw at least 4 others with hats on. What? Nice lights and view from the place, but the weird rules and the fact that drinks are Manhattan-priced make me say it's just OK. Might try again sometime, maybe not.

Celebrated my daughters birthday here last night. Everything went perfectly. There was a little bit of confusion with my reservation but worked out for the best with self service as we were not rushed. The food and drinks were great and the atmosphere was really fun with nice views. The only reason why I didn’t give a 5 was for the reason the 2 hostess’ were pretty rude. We did speak to the manager who accommodated is and a security guy by the name of Arsenio. He asked me if I needed help and found a better place for my family to sit with better views. We plan on making this an annual event at Surf City Our entire family had a great time.

Visited last night and witnessed the nastiest treatment of a customer that I've ever seen. A woman politely asked a bartender named Meg if she was currently helping anyone to which the bartender replied "No, I'm not helping anyone, AT ALL." She then rolled her eyes and walked away, leaving everyone in the surrounding area with a face of surprise and disgust. I was extremely put off by that and don't think I'll be visiting again after that.

Their hours are very seasonal. When we went in September, they had already closed except for weekends. I am not sure they stay open at all in the winter. I suggest calling!
