This Restaurant belongs to the category of Korean restaurant.
awesome food. great service. good for dinner.
Beautifully presented food with delicious and somewhat unexpected combinations of flavors and textures. The space is intimate, cozy, well appointed, and not too loud. Service was attentive and thoughtful.
Wonderful!! Must go place in East Village. Lucky to have this place in NYC. Foods were delicious and people are kind. Fancy and neat morden Korean restaurant. Strongly recommend Soft-tofu soup, Pork belly and Rice stick. If you like spicy food then should try chicken dish. Meat is super soft and sauce is so great. It also comes with yam sauce which will soothe you.
We had a very good time. Lovely atmosphere and very delicious food! I would like to recommend the Korean Style Rice Stick for desert:)!
Solid Korean small-plate style dishes and drinks. Will definitely return.
Great food. Cosy ambience. Friendly staff. I’ve been to some other Korean fusion restaurants where food was too westernized and salty, but Soogil blends authentic Korean flavors with a nice touch of French. Food portions are not big, so we tried most dishes in the menu, and everything was excellent! Highly recommend.
Interesting fusion dishes. Food service.
Food is overrated
Good food, nice flavors, inventive dishes, well presented. Overall good value for money.
Cozy and delicious!
OMG! I love this hidden gem in the east village. It is a wonderful contemporary korean food. Way beyond my expectations. Every dishes were great and they also have a wonderful wine selection.
Best Korean Restaurant in NYC
Amazing dining experience! Enjoyed the kind and pleasant service, while the food was absolutely amazing. So many things to recommend, that I would order as much as possible and share!
best food in town
Amazing place! SUCH GOOD FOOD...if you go order the glass noodles. Both times I have gone I have had the same waitress she has short brown hair and is so kind and makes great conversation. I love coming back here to eat and will be coming more often.
Had numerous texts with this restaurant. None mentioned no wine, beer or alcohol and no byob. How uncivilized.
Perfect place to hangout with friends and family. Def. Coming back!! Food was great!!
The food was fine, but the service was lacking. There were plenty of servers, but they weren't very attentive and apparently forgetful. My friend and I were there before the place got crowded, however the food and drinks took forever to come out. When they brought out our first dish, we realized they had totally forgotten about our drinks and had to remind them. They brought out the wrong dish, and after that we waited close to 40 minutes for the rest of our order. Once we finally got to ordering our dessert, the hostess came to our table and asked us if we could leave soon, as there were other people with reservations waiting. And this was asked to us in korean. I'm not sure if she felt like since we were asian, we could be taken advantage of (all the other diners were non-asian), but I know for a fact that she never would've asked one of the white patrons to leave early. The interaction was rude and uncomfortable. We left with a bad taste in our mouths. They should've apologized for messing up our order and taking so long, but rather, they rushed us to leave before we were done.. We will never be coming back and we certainly won't be recommending this place to anyone.
korean food and the feeling at this spot is great. i love this place always quality food & service. the service was friendly and sociable. reminds me of a place in new york i liked to visit.
I came here with a friend a few Saturdays ago, right when they opened for dinner. The food was delicious, a little quirky with the flavors and oh so yummy, and the drinks were even better! 4 stars because we booked on opentable but when we arrived were told we had booked for the bar, and were sat right in front of the door so that each time it opened we got a blast of cold air. Our online reservation does not indicate that we booked for the bar, and the restaurant was mostly empty. If the restaurant was full I might have understood, but when we left two hours later there were still a number of empty tables. I’ve since noticed that if you book via opentable it does not indicate if you are being booked for the bar, but if you book via Resy it does. Just FYI!
We went there and got the restaurant week menu. Well worth the price! Everything was delicious and the portion size was great. Highly recommend!
Really tasty. The wasabi margarita was gnarly and the foie gras too
Special experience, creative korean at good price.
Pretty disappointing overall given the hype. I’ll start with the food, since I could excuse everything else if it knocked it out the park, but it didn’t. There’s some extremely good stuff here, like the tofu soup, the glass noodles, and the pork belly, but just as many things are just completely bland, or worse, weird. The mackerel was virtually flavorless and served on rice wrapped in a leaf that was really chewy and hard to eat, like cheap dolmades. The Brussels sprouts were recommended by the waiter but just had no flavor to speak of at all. That said, it was all reasonably priced, so you won’t leave unsatisfied on that alone. Unfortunately, there’s plenty else here to unsatisfy. The service was not great - the staff was exceedingly pleasant, but outright bad at their job. They brought out the wrong food to our table and/or the table next to ours three times, they just kind of forgot about us at the beginning and didn’t take our order for a long time, and then the dude poured water all over my leg but didn’t even notice. I just wanted to run out of there at the end. Finally, the drink program sucks. They don’t have any sort of liquor license, so there is no cocktail program and there isn’t even beer or wine available, but on top of that they have put zero effort into what they do have. I ordered green tea and it was legitimately a bag of Lipton tea. I will give them credit, the dishes and the restaurant itself are all beautiful, and if they work through their problems this place could maybe shine, but right now there’s no reason to come.
We find all the dishes very salty but they were not too bad with rice. Staffs were friendly and gave good recommendations. I personally liked bulgogi with glass noodle, foie gras and jenga dessert.
- fresh & delicious - cocktails are nice
Awesome food and friendly atmosphere. Enjoy French influenced Korean cuisines without the pretentious prices and uptight settings.
Chefy take on Korean food with authentic but refined flavors. Small-ish a la carte plates add up to a great meal (2-3 per person). The spicy soft tofu stew is a highlight, brimming with rich seafood flavors and a nice wallop of spice that will knock you over with flavor (but not leave you in pain). This dish really warmed us up from the brutally cold weather outside. The brussel sprouts with lightly fried and seasoned tofu, raisins, peanuts, and crispy seaweed were delicious and satisfying. The glass noodles with bulgogi, mushroom, and vegetables were also nice. My companion was not impressed with the foie gras (and the portion was small so I did not get to assess it myself) - not bad, but not as great the rest. The rice stick dessert was a nice end to the meal and looks impressive when brought to the table. Honey chestnut gelato is served atop a Jenga-like construction of warm, just-fried rice flour churros and dusted with a sweet spice powder. The result, especially as the melting ice cream soaks the crispy rice sticks, is like fried ice cream but better. The food takes a really long time. We waited 20 minutes or more for each round of plates and the whole (light) meal took almost two hours, even though we were there on the later side - after 9pm - while the peak was ending and the tables were emptying. Nonetheless, I am glad the quality of the food was not sacrificed. The service was nice and attentive.
Food was good. Mung bean pancakes exceeded expectations and taste almost meaty. Fish was good but portions we're a bit small. Meat courses were done well. Excellent desserts. All my pics came out orange because of the warm lighting in the restaurant
Loved this place. Great food, service and ambiance, not loud.
Cool and cosy. Great service. Good food.
I went here yesterday with my lovely friends. This place is one of the "must go" place in east vilage in Manhattan NYC ~ I really recommed "korean pan cake" "monk fish" "glass noodle with bulgogi" "Korean stick with icecream". Cannot wait going here again
Great food , excellent service . This place is amazing . Highly recommended
Best restaurant in town.
Very nice personell; helpful and service-minded. Glass noodles fantastic! Attention could have been a bit higher, but on the other hand, there is an intimate feeling at the restaurant so flaggning down the waiter is not really an issue.
Excellent execution of display and taste. Not a lot of places can execute contemporary korean food well but this was top notch.
This place has a unique charm of romantic and intimate setting, combined with out of the world fusion of food and mesmerising cocktails. I’ve never seen my girlfriend happier than after a meal there!
Korean inspired French dishes. It would be awesome experience for Americans, and Koreans also
Great tasting menu. Will be back for sure.
Fantastic modern French inspired Korean restaurant in the East Village, with a very creative menu. I did the tasting menu for 2 people, and almost everything on the menu was very good. The Aster tofu salad was so simple, yet the flavors were really good. I couldn't get enough of the Spanish mackerel. The short ribs were melt in your mouth tender, with incredible flavor. However, I thought the bone marrow croutons were a disappointment--there wasn't enough marrow, in fact everything about that dish was too small. But flavor wise, this is a great restaurant. The letdown of the evening was the service, which was haphazard. I got a different beer than I ordered (though when the waiter realized the mistake he took it off the bill), and the spacing of courses was very irregular. Sometimes got a course when the previous was barely finished, other times we waited 15 minutes for the next course. This seems to be the effect of offering such a long tasting menu in such a busy restaurant. If the chef likes serving a long tasting menu, I think that's fine, but it would have been better if they had brought out several courses at once, to be enjoyed as sharing plates, to mitigate the issue with spacing the courses.
Excellent food and a solid value.
food is good. The ribs and ice cream are so great!
Firstly, when making reservations on Resy, don’t be fooled by an open reservation for the “Chef’s Counter” because here that just means “seats at the bar right in front of the door so every time someone comes in or out you get a blast of chilly air”. The “chef” in this case seems to just be a bartender. Secondly, the cocktail game is whack (because of the liquor license, fine) but so is the wine and beer menu. Unfortunately of the very few choices for drinking wine or beer and none of them are very compelling. Which is truly unfortunate because the food itself could make this place 5-star; it was all actually delicious and did not break the bank. Everyone is talking about the rice stick dessert for good reason. And while the short rib may not be something you would actually find in Korea it’s pretty excellent. I probably wont be back though until they find a way to step up their drinks game. And I will definitely pick a reservation for an actual table next time.
Great modernization of Korean cuisine. Well balanced flavors. They currently don't have any liquor license and BYOB is not allowed yet.
Great food! I had a lovely duck breast with fava bean wild rice risotto and pickled cherry, it was a perfect dish. The cocktail menu is also interesting, I tried the cucumber wasabi soju margarita, it was really good and unique.
Food are good here, service also quite nice. The sashimi, eel, wagyu and bone marrow taste great. Personally like eel that pairing with chives pretty new to me. Because of the uni not very fresh, it didn’t taste as well as we expected. A little disappointed on uni.
Wanted to love this place. Guess expectations were too high. Front and back of house were clearly off the night I went and they really need to get the front of house in order. Food had some good flavors but was nothing inspiring. Oh well.
(Translated by Google) If you go to the East Village I hope you visit. A comfortable atmosphere and a close feeling .. but the air and the food are leisurely .. (Original) 이스트빌리지에 놀러간다면 꼭 방문하면 좋겠다. 편안한 분위기와 밀착된 느낌.. 그치만 여유러운 공기와 음식이랄까..
What a gift to NYC and the American dining scene! Chef Lim was a sous chef at the esteemed Daniel and former chef at Hanjan. His experience speaks well to his personal interpretations of Korean food and modernizes it in a unique, unexpected way. I loved all the dishes we sampled and can't wait to return!
Delicious contemporary Korean food. I had the tasting menu and every single dish is well composed and prepared. The progression of the meal works well and incorporates many iconic korean ingredients and introduced me to new things as well. French ingredients and techniques seamlessly threaded throughout. Inspired dishes and wine selection pairs well, amazing value for such a wonderful dinner.
Good food. Korean favours with some French touches. Went for brunch, but the items available seemed more less the same as dinner or lunch items. Maybe the items were common breakfast times in Korean but it just didn’t feel like brunch at all to me.
Nice & cozy Korean fusion restaurant. Tapas style. The short rib was very good and the pomegranate soju cocktail was tasty. More a $$$ restaurant than a $$ restaurant. Expect to pay about $50 per person.
oh yes, do go dine here: all the dishes i had there felt like THE next generation of authentic korean food --- i am relieved now we have a place to trust for korean dining in manhattan: those, who know korean dishes well, will discover what they never knew possible; those, who are first to experience korean meals, will discover the most wonders of them,
I was disappointed by this Korean restaurant. The quality of the food was just ok. Service was ok, with many waitresses who did not speak English. I am used to it so it was not an issue for me, but I can see it being an obstacle for many others.
This spot is wonderful and broad, the menu was enchanting and the rates were very reasonable. quickly, efficient service and very amiable waiters. Highly recommended.
Very happy with my meal. For the three of us, we shared the glass noodle, mung bean pancake, beef tartare, pork belly and chicken. I liked the tartare and glass noodles the best. The chicken was also surprisingly good. This was plenty of food for three people.
It's inconsistent
