I visited a few days ago with my significant other and her sister and, as other comments highlight, the service is bad - the attitude of the staff will make you feel unwelcome. Barely got tea and no opportunity to ask for water or other beverages after your order is taken. Food was good - worth the price, but my biggest issue was the expectation to leave at least a 15% tip. The bill has a "Tip Assist" section at the bottom that gives you 15%, 20%, and 25% tip amounts. I think it's important to tip based on the value of service, so I left around a 10% tip (more than what the service is worth, to be frank). As we were leaving, one of the staff members chased me out the door and asked me to correct the tip. I was offended that she was demanding more money from me. I explained to her that tip is optional unless placed on the bill as service charge or gratuity. I told her I could leave $0 on the tip and walk out with no issues, but she insisted to argue with me in front of my party. I refused to change the tip and let her know that what she was doing was not okay. Her horrible attitude led to her snatch the bill from me and walk away. Unbelievable.

Love the atmosphere, its interior is elegant and clean with good service. I've been dining at So Kong Dong Tofu House for a quiet awhile. Love the variety tofu soup and their side dishes. Kalbi is bit pricey for the quantity and the fat on the meat. I especially love coming here bc there's Hmart(foodcourt inside), Picnic Garden BBQ, Paris Baquett, Chinese Market and many other stores.

Amazing food! My friend and I have tried almost everything and it doesn’t disappoint. The staff is great and are always happy to help you and get you whatever you want. The tofu bowls are great on cold days and they come out pretty quick! And if you like meat, try the beef tofu bowl and make it spicy! So good!

Old bastard ran after us demanding more tips.

Hostess was friendly (only cause they have to say standard greeting in korean) then wait staff was extremely rude. Even though the staff used proper korean asking what I wanted. Because of his tone it came out as "WANT DO YOU WANT?!?!" I want standard service! they only came over to ask what I needed was when they saw me try to grab a napkin from another table. The only other time the wait staff interacted with us when bringing another party members food we asked for some extra side dishes and they didn't even respond ok. They brought over the check even while I was still eating.

Lizzy Tieu

Surprisingly empty anytime I go there considering how great the food is. They are very accommodating to large groups (I went there with six other friends) and they serve us all very quickly. I love this place so much and I come here whenever I'm in town.

I love this place and have gone back many times! My favorite is the Dol Slot Bibim-bop. I love the classic small side dishes at the beginning of the meal. This place is great to avoid the long lines at the Hot Pot restaurant next door but also still have a delicious meal!

Tofu soups are standard Korean dishes. I will say it is ok with the price point. This is a place that you just want to have a ok meal. I do like giseng chicken soup. The rest I rarely order as I think I have better choice at other place. If you just want spend 12 bucks for a Korean tofu soup. This is the place to go in this area.

I doubt that they'll ever see this review because the managers and owners only care for money and nothing else, but I will write it anyway. Usually I have no issues with this place. Food is decent but they need to work on customer relations. And MANY other people have made similar comments. Went with friends and the server misunderstood that part of the cash we put down was tips so she included as part of the bill. She COUNTED at our table to see if we gave her tips and then implied we hadn't given her the at least 15% "necessary". Then she told us to give her a minimum of $10 in tips and watched us with another server to the side until we gave her more. I half expected her to chase us down if we just left. Her tone was rude and a little intimidating. Why would you count your tips in front of customers and then state they have to give you more tips?

Amy

Worst service I've ever experienced. Some of us were ordering more slowly, and the waitress angrily ripped off the first page of the guest check and stormed off. When we called her back, she aggressively said "done?" a few times, didn't apologize for her behavior, and slammed a chair very loudly when I got up to leave and briefly stood in her way. I am never coming back.

Mmmmmm I had a craving for tofu soup and it was definitely satisfied at the Tofuhouse! Came here for my mother's birthday but she knows I wanted it more. One of the things I like about Korean restaurants is they give small plates of their signature cold appetizers! They usually give kimchi, pickled spicy cucumbers, pickled bean sprouts, bean curd slices and more! If you've never been to a tofu house that's serves tofu soup, ordering is quite easy. You pick from a choice of many different protein combinations to add to your soup and then pick how spicy you want your soup. Every soup comes with a bowl of rice and a raw egg. When you get your tofu soup, bubbling with yumminess, crack your egg in it right away (that's if you like egg in your soups) and stir it around to ensure the soup cooks it well. Some people dump their rice into the soup, but I like to eat it separately. Your choice, really. I highly recommend this place! Their soups hit the spot, especially as the weather get colder. They take credit cards and there's plenty of parking. Wait staff are very attentive.

Jason

Overall the food here is solid, they offer the appetizers for free like many Korean restaurants! The Kimchi, beansprouts, and fish cakes are my girlfriends and my favorites. When you order tofu soup, they come with an egg! They're very fast when it comes to bringing the food to your table so you can expect a short wait and a fast bite! Put the egg in your tofu soup when you get it so it can cook! I get the medium spicy beef tofu soup, just be wary, I can take my spicy and this is about right... not unbearable but it's tolerable. If you can handle spicy, then get this, you won't be disappointed! If you're looking for tofu soup this is the place to go, for other Korean food, you can probably find better.

The food and atmosphere amazing. Although the lines are long, this just shows how well the restaurant is doing and how good the food is. The waiters and waitresses are all part -timer from Rutgers and all know how to speak English. I had no trouble communicating as a third generation Chinese American. @Ridge p from above, I’m sorry you felt that way but you could say the same when my grandparents walk into an American restaurant and no one there speaks Chinese.

Tonight was the 3rd or 4th time I've eaten here. Without fail, the tofu soup hits the spot. Tonight's meal consisted of the Beef tofu soup and the Kimchi tofu soup. I'm just an impatient eater....when the food comes out, I dig in immediately. The soup comes out boiling hot. With the hotness of the soup (temperature) and the hotness of the pepper, I'm usually drenched in sweat after I'm done. But tonight was different. I was starving!!! Wasn't in the mood to have sweat dripping from my chin, so I just picked number two (mild). When my beef tofu soup came out, I went at it. It was perfect! I immediately cracked a raw egg in the soup, followed by some rice. I still managed to burn my tongue. My date on the other other hand was a little more patient. She ordered the Kimchi soup with a spiciness of 4. She cracked her egg into the soup and patiently waited for it to cool while staring at me from across the table while I was struggling to stuff my face with very hot soup. While she was staring at me, she helped herself to the side dishes that came with our soups. They included kimchi, bean spouts, kimchi pickles, a small salad and some tofu. As I was finishing my meal, she started on hers. I politely asked to have a taste. She obliged. WOW!!!! It was amazing! It was nice & spicy just the way I liked it, but the soup wasn't boiling hot anymore and you can really taste all the flavors. Now, it was my turn to stare at her eat. That got a tad boring; so I decided to admire the restaurant's decor. It's very contemporary, yet classy. Everything was kept extremely clean and neat. It has a very "homey" and welcoming feeling to it. The best part? Two soups that completely made us extremely full came out to $20. I will however have to deduct one star for the limited menu and of the MSG in the soup.

Heather Cammarata-Seale

Not the best korean restaurant I've been to. The service was very rushed, the tofu soup was a bit bland (how is that even possible), and the menu is not very varied. I will probably try other places before returning here...

Let's just say i'm a regular here for a very good reason... Haha workers here are super friendly and helpful. The food is amazing, they dont skimp out on spices, ban chan is loaded with spices also and they have a good variety of ban chan, only wish they gave fish cake for to go orders instead of just dining in. But I absolutely love their yuk gae jang, Jae yook j Korean pork entree, and their seafood pancake. The wonton soup was a bit bland for me, but if you stick to those aforementioned entrees, you cannot go wrong!! Love Tofu House!!

I usually go here with friends and have been there a couple of times. The food is reasonably priced, but the reason that I am giving a 1 star review is because the service is extremely unprofessional and rude. We usually still give tip for rude service, but the servers followed us out of the door and demanded more, which ultimately made our experience awkward and uncomfortable. We ended up giving them more, but this ruined the whole experience. Highly recommend others to seek out mediocre food elsewhere.

My family or I have eaten here monthly since it opened. Recently, the waitress AGGRESSIVELY SHAMED US to increase our tip when we were already tipping 17% - VERY AWKWARD. We paid $11 tip on a $59 meal. As someone who owns a restaurant, this is 100% a faux pas in the service industry. UNDENIABLY TERRIBLE SERVICE. She yelled and made quite a commotion as well, so we did add more tip, even if we knew this was totally outrageous. However, we had to explain that we asked for one of the items to be takeaway (we ordered separately and never ate this in the restaurant). Regardless, she said we had to add more tip for that $20 item but....1. takeaway items are not tipped unless they were delivered (duh!) and 2. if this was part of our order, then $11 tip on a $80 meal is still 14% tip!!! Anyway, they're pretty much wrong in every way, from every angle. This was a really DISGUSTING and DISRESPECTFUL experience from a business I frequent regularly :(

We had lunch there today, the waiters are terrible. We just finished our food, by the way, the food was vey salty, still drinking, they started not only clean up the table, also setup the table with very bad attitude. Nobody deserve such service in any restaurant.

Seena H

Being a die hard fan of Korean food and having dined at multiple Korean places , I wouldn't call this one as a good one. The food was mediocre and the staff was not really interested in serving us. Probably because I reached there 1 hour before the closing. The bibimbap was good. But I have tasted better ones. For the price quoted, the food is okay.

Michael Smanko

This is our local go to place for Soon Dubu Chigea. We like the mixed seafood one but the clam or oyster ones are quite good too. Choose from five levels of spiciness .... none to very spicy. Five side dishes are included with every meal plus steamed rice. Other Korean dishes are offered like bibimbap and scallion pancake, but soft tofu is the main reason for coming here. Dishes are in the $10-12 range and are a bargain.

Carter Wang

horrible service!Never come again If you pay very little tip for the horrible service, the waiter will speak very rude, offensive, dirty Korean word to you

Most of the food here is extremely overpriced but the tofu soup is worth the money, definitely a lot of food for the price. But I cant give this place anything beyond a 1 star for their horrible service. Ive been here several times and each time the service gets worse and worse and the last time I went was the worst. Went in and did not get served for 15 min and had to wave a waiter down just to get water. No contact at all during the meal, no refilling of water or bonchon and always the rudest response when we asked. Horrible service honestly did not deserve a tip. Also called my group of friends degrading words in Korean thinking we didnt understand. 10/10 would not recommend. Owner and management should be ashamed.

Food is decent. I had better tofu pot. Tried their beef one and it was just little mince beef. Also had the bibimpop and beef soup rice cake. Bonchan was not great and very limited. Kimchi looks like store made. Nothing much to say. Just alright.

Good quality of foods but services are average at best. Price is not cheap.

Food: Acceptable, Overpriced, and not the best. The tofu bowl was excellent for its price although, but the rest was horrific. The Nakji- noodle was a mess of food. There was not that much octopus and a lot of excess stuff. My family member could not even finish it as it was that bad. Prices are not justified for the food served here. Bill ran around 53 for three dishes. When we got the bill, the tray that held the receipt said: 5% off if pay by cash.- No thanks, we will pay with a plastic card instead.:)

The staple (soon doo bu) came out good. The banchan was tasty. Only one problem, where is the customer service? Not once did the waiter check on us nor did she ever refill drinks or banchon. No thank you, no nothing out of her mouth. She was however eager to take our bill and disappear into the back ricky tick. I will not be coming back as nothing like this happens at the fort lee location.

Ok i went at a weird hour. i get it it was 3pm. But after we sat we literally wait 15min and still no waiter. The people that were working there were too busy on their phones talking to their friends and family that they forgot they had customers. My girlfriend and i stormed out and will never go again for their horrible service. Would give this place 0 stars but i can't.

I like how there's a good amount of tofu in the tofu soup. Great food in general, but bad service year round.

Joe Tsai

Tasty and easy to navigate menu. 9 varieties of tofu soups, 14 misc dishes including dumpling soups and stir fried noodles. Most items $12-$14, a few $20ish. The seafood pancake is a great starter. It's crispy, chewy and has a nice amount of squid, crab and green onion. For entrees, the tofu soup bowls are a good choice. Generous amount of tofu and various meats like beef and seafood. Caution on the spice; for those who aren't used to Asian spices, the mild can become a bit much as the meal goes on. There is a white broth you can opt for that has no spice. The dumpling soup is a nice option for those who want something mild & w/o tofu. Dumplings filled with pork and green onions and slices of ginger floating in the soup. Stylish and comfortable decor with nice music, good for a casual meal or date night. Received really good customer service: funny waiter, waiter tried hard to modify meal to meet my sensitivity to onion/garlic. Another waiter went super stealth to make sure my wife didnt see the birthday cake I brought. I felt very valued as a customer, definitely would come back.
