Last time I was in for a dinner was two years ago, had the suckling pig and it was divine. Came back recently, had the suckling pig again, and it was terrible. So dry, no flavor, it taisted like it has been sitting on a warming rack for days. I make a better one. What happened to the signature dish? When people are paying over $125 for dinner this is not acceptable. Truly and deeply disappointed.

Edward made sure everything was perfect because I have allergies to different things, he consulted with the chef and accommodated my need to leave things out. It's a place I expected to find in Manhattan but since I was in New Jersey during my birthday, it worked out so I didn't have to take the trek to the city. An exquisite restaurant. I will definitely go to find out what else the chef can do.

My boyfriend had made a reservation for the first time in this place. I called Yesterday to cancel it no answer cause they were closed. I called this am to spoke to a rude woman, that didn't care she said your card will be charged the full amount. We did not get notified through any email to confirm anything but yet after i hung up with her seems like she hurried to charge this card ASAP to me i feel like they only cared about the money..A big restaurant like this sure is fast to charge the card as soon i hang up.. NOT COOL GREEDY PEOPLE AND RUDE

Restaurant Nicholas represents high-end dining in the Red Bank area. The menu changes seasonally and is expertly prepared. They have an extensive wine list. This is a restaurant for which dressing up is recommended. One caveat - it is not cheap. Bring plenty of money or your favorite plastic.

It was definitely over hyped. Wanted to try it for quite a while but did not live close so tried to tie it into a local visit. Although everything was cooked well there was not much that stood out as being outstanding. It really seemed like all of the food needed additional seasoning which is really unfortunate. Not what you'd expect from a restaurant that many regard as being best in the state.

We were there the saturday night before this last 2017 fathers day holiday. There were 5 of us. My family celebrating the holiday We each purchased the 6 course tasting menu and the premier wine pairing for 125. Pp. The service was good. The food was good. The wine was good The kitchen was very slow. We waited about an hour from the time we sat down to the time the food starting arriving. That was ok. I was with my kids. The portions were appallingly small. We routinely eat at good restaurants in NYC and do not experience this The wine was good but we did not get.more than a tasting each time Hardly worth the 125.00 I was surprised. Actually a bit angry. The service was good so I did not take it out on the staff. My whole family was there so I did not make a fuss. I will not be back

We have dined at Restaurant Nicholas many times since we moved into the area in 2007, and it is one restaurant that just keeps blowing us away every time we go back. Last night, my wife surprised me with dinner at the "Chef's Table" for my birthday and all I can say is it was probably the best dining experience I've ever had. The Hamachi Tartare was impeccably well balanced, the Scallops were taking a dip with spring vegetables in a light butttery sauce that was out of this world, and the salmon and halibut were both cooked to perfection as always. And that describes only four of the 16 small plates, each one a masterpiece, that the two of us were able to enjoy over the course of the evening. In general, Chef Nicholas, his Sous Chef Kevin and the entire kitchen staff are somehow able to develop rich deep complex flavor profiles while keeping things simple at the same time. And as usual, the service staff was top of the line and at our table whenever we needed them, but disappearing from sight whenever we didn't. They acted with precision and appeared to effortlessly guide us through the numerous courses with smiles and warmth rather than the snooty attitude of many other fine dining establishments. And when you dine at the Chef's Table (with the kitchen as your entertainment), you truly realize just how much attention to detail Restaurant Nicholas demands of its food and staff. They were never "in the weeds", operating like a fine-tuned Maserati engine throughout the entire night of service, accommodating all sorts of special requests, all while putting out consistently amazing food. I'm lucky I live in the area so I can dine here as much as I want, but even if I lived on the other side of the world, a single night at Restaurant Nicholas would be well worth the trip! Congratulations to Nicholas, Melissa, Kevin, and the entire kitchen and service staff .... you continue to ensure that we are customers for life and I hope you won't mind seeing our eager faces at the "Chef's Table" again soon!

My husband and I went here for dinner last night around 6 p.m. We had the only car in the parking lot that was not a Mercedes or Audi. The valet was rude when we asked if we could park ourselves. However, that was where the rudeness stopped. The staff inside was professional and courteous. We ordered the 3 course menu and had scallops and ravioli for the first course, tuna and chicken for the second, and followed it with dessert. Everything was fresh and delicious. The clientele was mostly an older crowd, but I feel that was probably because the restaurant is too expensive for most of the younger crowd in the Monmouth County area. My only complaint is the dated and drab decor. It feels like you are dining in a cheap casual restaurant and it does not fit with the exceptional service and food. I personally do not want to eat under a ceiling with glass bowls hanging over my head. Still, the decor aside, my husband and I would go back to Nicholas in a heartbeat and we both highly recommend it.

First off, it's expensive. You pretty much need to either be rich or sell your kidney on the black market to afford this place. With that said, the food is something you see in movies. To me, it's Michelin Star level food. I'm planning on going back after I sell my other kidney. Loved it, totally recommend it for a romantic evening with your significant other.

This is one of my most disappointing meals at a "nice restaurants" I have ever been to. It was very pretentious, incredibly small portions, sooo overpriced for what you get. We have been to the Ryland Inn, before it burnt down, and the Washington Inn, as well as other finer restaurants. So, I have no problem with paying for a finer meal at a higher price. They take off the cover to the plate like voila...and it is an appetizer portion for an entree. I can tell you that I cannot believe this place is so highly rated. I would NEVER NEVER EVER recommend anyone to go here, not for this price, and the portion sizes, If you have never been here, don't bother. Nicholas you need to go back to school, you are truly a RIPOFF!!!!!!!!!

My mothers day was at great experience at this first time visited outstanding restaurant until I found a long dark hair on my second piece of fruit and nut bread. I didn't want to make a scene and my son was so upset but made him promise not to upset anything. I wrapped it in a napkin and set it aside. The food was outstanding but I combed thru everything before I ate it. The service is impeccable but the cautiousness I took with every course was a bit unnerving. I enjoyed everything and my son picked a wonderful place to take me to but I don't know that I will return.

My husband booked the Chef Table for our 25th Anniversary and it was amazing. We were greeted with a wonderful bottle of champagne and Chef Kevin and his staff. We are gluten free but that did not compromise the delicious courses. Before dessert I was stuffed but the treats that followed were too beautiful to pass up. I can't say enough. This was my first time at Nicholas and can't wait to go back.

I want to start out by saying my Fiance and i absolutely loved Restaurant Nicholas. We have gone with our best friends and family no less than six times in the past 2 years. This last time we went for an engagement dinner was the exception and why we will unfortunately never go there again. I valeted my car as i always do and we went in to meet our best friends for dinner. Dinner was excellent as always and we got in our separate cars to leave and head across the highway to our friends house for the night. Upon arriving there 2 minutes later i got out and went in my backseat to grab my overnight bag and realized it was not there. I remember specifically putting it on my backseat before leaving my house and heading directly to the restaurant that night but it was not there after leaving the restaurant. I promptly returned to Nicholas and asked the Valet if he had perhaps put it in another vehicle or it had fallen out. We looked around the parking lot and no bag was found. He said he thought he locked the vehicle as he always does but didn't seem very sure. The manager said he would review the cameras and call me the next day. He did not so i called to follow up. He said the car was not in view on their cameras as they have them pointing at their back door and fridges, not customers cars.. I came back that day to look around again for the bag in the parking lot and surrounding neighborhood with no luck. Upon speaking to my fiance after this she also told me that her new Tori Burch bag that she got for Christmas was also missing, still in the new box. I went to the Middletown Police department and filed a report for stolen items and called the manager back with the case # to ask if there was any update and he said no. I politely asked if we could file an insurance claim and he said he would have to talk to their lawyer and he would call me back. He also said he was sorry this happened but it didn't happen at their restaurant!! This was on January 2nd.. 22 days ago. We are beyond shocked at how the Restaurant handled this and we could never go back. I would at the very least like people to know if you eat there DO NOT Valet park and if you do not have ANY valuables in your car. I wish this didn't happen and it was a lesson learned and made us see who Nicholas Restaurant is at the core, A Restaurant with amazing (an Expensive) Food and Management with no Customer respect. As a google local guide i may have only given out 1 other 1 star review if any, so obviously this experience was so bad for us it warranted this .If we had been an older couple driving an S class i guarantee this would haven been handled entirely different.

The truffle dinner was bland in taste and service was very poor. This should be a restaurant whereby the food should make your taste buds explode. Well, the various dishes failed to do that. The beef Wellington was so dry, i couldn't even eat it.

The restaurant is beautiful. It's elegant in its minimalism with clean sharp lines in the bar accentuated by various shadows and lighting. I'm always impressed when a restaurant has so much white in its decor which includes the fabric on its seating. I went with a friend for some cocktails and appetizers at the bar. One of our selections was a wild mushroom ravioli that was out-of-this-world ! I think I dreamt about it!

MY FAVORITE THUS FAR! I loved everything about this place. The servers were very professional and would always explain what's on the plate as they're handing it to us. They offer a $75 prix fixe menu that includes an appetizer, an entree and a dessert. I got rabbit meat and my bf got the filet mignon. There was a complimentary soup and a small dessert at the end (added pictures). The food was delicious, it exceeded our expectations! With the check, they give us a banana bread in a small gift bag (for breakfast the next day - as they explained it) :) Would definitely go back!!

The food was delicious. Reservations were made a week in advance and we still had to wait for our table. The server was not particularly attentive and our drinks took a long time to come out. We were profiled as being a young couple on a budget and were treated as such, lower priority, when in reality we were prepared to have an extravagant night. The restaurant was crowded and loud. Although the food was top tier, the prices are a bit high for the ambiance and quality of service.

For the last 19 years it's been our personal favorite and has edged out what is considered the very best and highly rated restaurants around the globe. We've brought many friends to join us over the years as it's considered to be a special occasion dinner treat. However, we find many reasons to come more often. Nicholas, the chefs, and each of the staff provides service that cannot be matched. The food is innovative and spectacular. If you're a foodie Don't miss it!

Great restaurant- good food and lovely, contemporary atmosphere. We had the beet salad appetizer which was excellent. We also had the soft shell crab which was good but nothing special- -on the dry side. For entrees we had the lobster broccoli cavatelli which was out of this world delicious. We also had the tile fish that was ok but not great. Portions were on the small size and prices were on the high side. The service was excellent. We will be returning for our next special occasion.

The food is incredible! We went for the 4 course pasta dinner. Each pasta was unique and so flavorful. Interesting pairing of ingredients. We also ordered a couple of other dishes off the menu which were equally delicious. Not a large selection of wines by the glass. However there is a wine store with very good prices so after tasting a glass of wine with dinner I usually end up taking a couple of bottles home. This isn’t an inexpensive restaurant but nothing of this quality and attention to detail is cheap. I have dined here many times over the past 20 years and I have never been disappointed with the food or service both of which have always been supreme. It is my feeling that any negative reviews you might read are more about the patron and their ability to afford the cost of a meal there then their actual experience. One patron wrote the food and service “sucked”, any polished person would hardly describe such an experience using that type of verbiage, I would expect they would focus on exactly what they didn’t like rather than using a one word descriptive such as previously stated, more than likely their last meal was at the corner diner. As the old saying goes, there’s no accounting for taste or lack of it. This is a very fine restaurant and is best saved for a special occasion. Overall, two out of four of us were disappointed in our meals however all four agreed the breads and the dessert was the best part and delicious! Overall, wouldn't run back. "Been there, tried it". Can get delicious and original dishes at several other venues without having to pay as high a price. Hats off to the attentive service though!!

Fantastic experience. We did the 6 course tasting menu with wine pairings. Everything was timed excellently, the food was delicious, and the service was prompt without being stuffy. Dinner for 2 was very expensive, but it's a great special occasion restaurant.

Food was great, service was great, they really made a great effort to provide vegan dishes, which was mentioned when reservation was made. A great experience.
