Made a reservation at Lorena's for my girlfriend's birthday last month and it was a great experience indeed. Loved the food, the presentation and the friendly waiters/waitresses. If you're looking for a cozy, quiet little place for a romantic evening "à deux"... Lorena's is the place for you. Unfortunately, they were booked for Valentine's Day, but I'll definitely go there again.

Went into this place with very high expectations and so I think I felt a little disappointed in the end. The food was very good, especially the pancake starter and the mains we're tasty although not that big. Byob a great benefit and keeps the price manageable. But the service was a bit hit or miss and the ambience didn't really enhance the experience for us.

Lorena’s is the perfect night out if you are nostalgic for the 90’s. It comes with the full stuffed shirt, condescending service experience of your favorite Midtown Haute Cuisine restaurant. They will try quite hard to make you feel like you don’t quite fit in. Then the kitchen willl oblige with overly fussy, yet bland food. A real hit of your parents’ suburban wedding anniversary from twenty years ago. Though for a change, you may also get a salt bomb. Honestly, it is a pretty unforgettable experience. Something I’ll be telling my friends about for actual months. A real gem of a time warp, all for the price of a car payment.

It was a snowy day and our 38th wedding anniversary. We had a 7:00 reservation with Lorena's. Instead of closing the restaurant due to the weather, they allowed us to move our seating to 5:00. Thank you! We had the small room to ourselves for 1 1/2 hours which was very nice. Wait staff, perfection. Little additions like shots of squash soup for starters and berry/mint cleanser, very nice. I really enjoyed my bronzino entre- quite perfect. My husband relished his lamb special. Very nice desserts and portion size all perfect. We will definitely return and bring friends. The prices are in keeping with fine dining. The reason for 4 stars- I have issues with onions. The waiter asked and I told him. My salad had onion in the dressing and the dressing was not in a side cup. I'm still tasting the onion this morning. Otherwise, quite a lovely meal and we will be back.

So good my head almost fell off: A group of friends including my wife and myself went here for dinner together. We ordered many, many dishes and shared them all. Everything we had absolutely astonished us. Don’t worry about the price, it’s worth every cent and much more. Don’t forget to try some specials! Outstanding!!!

Lorena's is an excellent restaurant. The service is warm, friendly, and seems to truly care about their diners' experience. The food is creative, well-presented, with appropriately sized portions. We loved the use of creme fraiche and tobiko in both the oysters (raw) and the salmon tartar. The steak was cooked to perfection (medium-rare), and the addition of foie gras and brioche made for an interesting combination of flavors. On top of all of that, Lorena's is a BYO. So grab a bottle of wine from the cellar, and make a reservation to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or a Tuesday evening.

This place is a gem of fine dining in Maplewood. It is worth the money. Updated March 2018: Can't recommend Lorena's enough. Perfect romantic date night place. I don't want to go anywhere else. It has set a standard for most foods that I eat now, which is turning me into a foody. Some may call me a food snob now. But when you have a juicy, meaty, delicious, and perfectly cooked rare venison after some excellent Pacific coast oysters, followed by a creme brulee and cappuccino, it is hard to go back to your everyday meals. Don't hesitate to go to this place or you will be sorry you missed it. I'd give it 6 stars if I could.

The restaurant is very tiny and our choice of seating was a table for two in the first room that was walkway for waiters/patrons to get through. So we were offered a table in the back which was like sitting in a box. It had no ombiance. The service was good. My meal was was quit good but my husband was not happy with his entree. My favorite French restaurant in NJ. My favorite appetizer is the salmon tartar with wasabi roe served with crispy wonton triangle. We've even one time tried just their appetizers. The service is great and they split up all the appetizers so my wife and I can each have our own plate. I like being surprised by them offering free samples. What ever drink they offer is delicious.

I dined at Lorena's with friends last week and was very impressed. The food was vibrant and colorful, the service was impeccable. The one downfall was the terrible body odor emitting from the young lady that brings the actual food to the table. I know it's hot in there but please get some more deodorant or something. The soupy odor changes the flavor of the dish. It even affected the little pea soup cup we got to start off. That's why it's not a five star review, that should be addressed by management.

Excellent food and service. BYOB but there is a well stocked liquor store just across the street. We both two bottles of wine, and red and a white. Servers used the appropriate glasses, served at the appropriate temperature and did not charge a corking fee! Will definitely visit again.

This restaurant has old fashioned great service with amazing food. They began with an amuse bouche of a lobster bisque, which was delicious and a great way to start, then we continued with a crabmeat crepe with wild mushrooms which was excellent. Additionally, they had great olive bread with olive oil that was fantastic. Then we had a mahi-mahi main course which was very good and some lamb, which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. For desert, they had a complementary small treat of exotic fruit juice, which was also perfect. This was followed with caramel and peanut butter bread pudding, which was just right to end a delicious meal. As you can surmise from above, I really loved this meal. However, it is not the sort of place to bring your kids. It is more the kind of place to bring your parents or grandparents. Also, BYOB.

Great place for a quiet upscale meal. Seating area is very small and tables are spaced nicely, perfect for an intimate dinner. Entrees are on the expensive side but the quality and service justify it. Plus, it's BYOB, so don't have to worry about gross markups on wine. Crab crepe was nice but the short rib was really good and perfectly cooked. I would definitely advise reservations and jackets are recommended.

Lorena's is consistently extremely good and extremely classy, including the service. Which is why they garner "Top 5 Restaurants in NJ" awards every year. The food is high end French, and you'll find venison, or skate fish, or rack of lamb, or scallops; always something to please your tastes. And the appetizers are also very interesting. While this is French/Continental, you never go away hungry, portions are quite adequate. It is a small, very cozy setting, so make reservations well in advance of when you want to visit. It is BYOB, or what I like to call BYBB (Bring Your Best Bottle).
