REVIEWS OF Ralph's Italian Restaurant IN New Jersey

G Taylor

Great food!! Very good veal parmigiana, ravioli and the meat balls with linguine... all our desserts were very good. Reasonable pricing for a family of 4.

ana montero

Delicious food Great service!

Brandon Chandler

The food is really good!

Nathan Boyd

A top spot for delicious Italian food. Don't worry if it's busy, it is worth the wait. I will be back with my coworkers.

Travis Carbonneau

Great food! So much flavor! The sautéed long hot peppers were awesome.

Ernest pentek

Good food good service can’t ask for more

Michael Vasilikos

The pastas are delicious ! My personal recommendation is to go for the pasta with clam sauce. The staff know their wines and they are good at recommending the perfect wine-pasta pair. Loved the experience, the ambience, the food, the service. Overall a wonderful dining experience.

David Young

Classic red sauce Italian joint. You won't find any surprises on the menu, but you won't be disappointed, either. Easy on the wallet, too.

Charles Walker

The food and service were very good.

Gladys Ferguson

Visited this restaurant, with my family, last night after a drive from Delaware. Asked my daughter to find a restaurant of her liking. Ralph's was her pick. She did not disappoint with this pick. The inside reminds me of a townhouse in NYC. I thought they only have one floor to dine in, but we were taken upstairs and it's more spacious.

Nick Heller

Really good pasta and meatballs.

Kyle Vincent

A South Philly staple. Self proclaimed “oldest family owned restaurant in the USA” and their gravy lives up to it. Pasta is delicious and seafood is fresh. Not even very expensive, a date for two with a couple of drinks will run you under $100. Highly recommend

Cynthia Merrion

Great Italian food and atmosphere

Joyce Kostin

Excellent food. Quick service, but not rushed. Excellent wait staff..a must to dine. Old world charm.

Loui Newnman

Love the decor, but the food was very average. We had the butternut squash crudité (too sweet) and the pizza.

Joseph Biebel

I heard that Ralph's was a destination Italian restaurant. We were in South Philly so we gave it a try. Luckily, we found on street parking nearby. And despite the restaurant being near capacity, we were able to get a table. It's tight and noisy in there, but seeing everyone enjoying the food and companions and the staff bustling between tables was entertaining. Our meal was good, but certainly we have had better. Overall, it was a good experience. Not sure I would make an effort to dine there again. The city is full of other restaurants I'd like to try.

Ken Levinson

One of the best old school Italian spots around. My flight was cancelled last night on the way home to Chicago so I stopped in for a late dinner. As always, the service was fantastic. My go to meal: House Salad, Veal Parmesan with Spaghetti on the side and a glass of red. Can't wait to go back!

Dorothy Mcshane

Food was great in a beautiful atmosphere. Excellent service too.

Emilee O'Leary

Great ambiance. Meatball app was fantastic, house chicken parm was good. Service was a little odd and inconsistent, but staff is super friendly and responsive.

Cara McNeely

Prompt and friendly service, yummy food, casual atmosphere. It all hit the spot!

Greg Neil

A group of 6 of us went for a friend's birthday tonight. As usual, the food was great but unfortunately, the service was lacking. Issues ranged from forgetting drinks multiple times to forgetting an entree & the server having to ask what he forgot for one of us to a food runner dropping a canoli & having it land on my sweater, lap, shoe & partly on the table & floor. A quick apology was murmured & another napkin was brought out so I could clean up myself & the table & they didn't even take the dropped canoli away, it just sat crumbled up in a plate until the table was cleared. The runner told the server what happened but he did not acknowledge it at all. I'm not looking for a free meal out of something like that but I would expect more than a lackluster apology. Definitely a poor way to end what was a tasty meal.

Gary Verna

Still 5 stars in my book! Everytime I go I fall in love with this place all over again!

Sally Levenduski

We went for the appeal of the oldest Italian restaurant in America, but the food was not that good. There are much better Italian restaurants and I would not go here again and would honestly not recommend.

William DeVries

Food is always fantastic. Never had a bad meal here. Ask for Marc!

Glen Holloway

Food was amazing. The decor was so nice. Got in fast and seated fast. Waiters were really nice and polite. Got food in a descent times.

Joseph Colarusso

Delicious food... Service, UGGG... Seemed like all the servers couldn't wait for you to leave... Our waiter had 2 tables and you would have thought he was taking care of the whole restaurant... Make sure you have reservations... Another waitress was berating a man because he asked how hot the peppers were... Actually told the man she would take one off the plate and eat it for him... Food was good though...

Patrick ONeill

Food was good but very salty. I had Spaghetti Metballs and Sausage. Also place is very small

Debi Young

Lunch was fast and delicious food. Had chicken parmesan and gnocchi. Red sauce was perfect, light and tasty.

Daniel Hernandez

Historic restaurant. Service was mediocre. Meatball appetizer was good, but the pasta lacked flavor.

Eileen Scully

This my favorite restaurant. Never disappoints

We went there for dinner. Staff was very fast to seat us and take our orders. We got the Mussels in white sauce and the Chicken Fettucini Alfredo. Both were very appetizing and were very filling but light at the same time. The portions were good and just enough. The sauce for the mussels was especially good. The sauce was a bit spicy but just enough that it wasn't overbearing. Hands down the best mussels I have had in a restaurant and definitely had that warm homey feel to the meal all around. When I go back I would add some pasta to the mussels just to enjoy that sauce that much more. The Fettucini Alfredo was perfectly seasoned and had a mild but not overpowering taste of asiago. When it comes to asiago, the taste of it is very evident that some restaurants tend to ruin the balance of it. This was definitely not the case here. The chicken was very tender and cut into just the right size and was well coated with the sauce. We also got the Tiramisu for dessert and it was fabulous. The coffee soaked cake in the middle of the layers was so good. With every bite you could feel yourself soaking in all the flavor. Very good dessert and very light as well. Enough to share between two.

Redrunner Lo

We found the food average. Their gravy is not as good as I expected. The waiter rushed us as we were ordering. They were busy but not that busy. Parking is terrible, but that is not unusual for this area of Philly. Will try another time as this is supposed to be a popular place.

Julieann Pagliarulo

The atmosphere is very nice at this restaurant and our waitress was outstanding. I ordered veal parmigiana. I’d found the veal a bit tough but maybe it’s supposed to be that way. The sauce is good. Another dish we had was the haddock piccata. That was a big mistake. For the price the piece of fish was way too small and had an odd flavor. The sauce lacked flavor. The meatballs were good.

Jeannie Taylor

Good Italian food at a great price!!!

Emily Norgeot

Great Italian food. The place has a lot of character and is in the heart of south philly. I would definitely go back

Joanna Hassinger

Wonderful food friendly service

Adam McMillin

Good food, it's just that 2 out of the 4 of us that ate dinner here ended up getting sick afterwards. On top of that the server was somewhat rude.

anthony gaspari

Great food, the server was funny, yet helpful. Very small restaurant, with tables close together. I loved it, and will definitely go again!

Gabriella Moyer

I salivate thinking of this place. I always have to get the veal rolentini and the clams in red sauce (you'll want extra bread) and everything else is delicious. Been going here with my family since a baby and I've never been disappointed

Melvin Goldberg

Always great Italian food from a restaurant with a special history. Located in the heart of Philly's Italian market. We have enjoyed dining there for over 30 years

Steven Dob

Best Italian restaurant I've ever eaten at. The veal parm is to die for. Everything else is just as good. Be aware, reservations are a good idea, especially on weekends. A little pricey, you might think, but you get your money's worth and then some. Bring a huge appetite, or a willingness to bring home leftovers.

Steve Zamkov

Really quite good. Excellent meatballs and sauce. Chicken parm was off the hook. Not expensive at all

Deshani Tonge

Really lovely place to have a quite dinner.

Robert Winter

The oldest restaurant in the country is a must visit when you are anywhere near philadelphia. Old time original Italian dishes , great friendly staff , and an atmosphere that brings you back a 100 years. Great value !!!!!

David Schaffer

I was in town for a meeting of lawyers used to fine dining.A local member of the group booked the upstairs dining room. This was two days ago.So generous are the portions, I just finished my last of the chicken parmigiana and garlic angel hair pasta.Ralph's is the real "old school" deal.I am from Chicago, so I am used to great Italian food. That said, Ralph's was tops.I am actually thinking of flying back to Philly just to eat at Ralph's again.Or maybe I could convince my host to get some "take-out" from Ralph's the next time he comes to Chicago. 'Nuf said.No one in our group went away hungry or disappointed.

Danielle Bower

Favorite restaurant of all time! Food is always excellent. Only restaurant with ambience that they have!

Jennifer Spinelli

Not impressed at all. We made the reservation on open-table. Because we were running a bit late due to traffic, we called and asked if they could hold the reservation for 15 minutes. The host said yes, but clearly wasn’t pleased. When we arrived, the host asked if we made the reservation on open table, chuckled under his breath and seated us at a tiny table. We were literally almost on-top of the people next to us. The veal parm that everyone raved about was bland and over cooked. It tasted like it was dropped in a deep fryer and topped with jar sauce. The side of spaghetti, which lacked sauce, also lacked flavor. The only positive were the muscles in red sauce. They should use that sauce on their other dishes because it at least has some flavor.

Laura N

What a great place! Two floors, the downstairs is small and feels like somewhere in Europe. The upstairs is great for a larger party. The food was delicious and the service is very good.

Chris Rehm

Came here; at the suggestion of a friend of mine. He's part Italian, so I trust his judgement, the best, when it comes to Italian food. Let me say, he was right! This is the best Italian restaurant, I have been to, in quite some time. The veal parmigiana was excellent, service was both prompt and courteous. Would highly recommend Ralph's to anyone, in Philadelphia, looking for some great Italian food.

Rosana Biebel

Disappointed. The restaurant is very noisy. You have to talk loud. The eggplant parmesan was ok even though it tasted like it had been fried in an oil that had been used over and over again. The lasagna noodles tasted homemade. The cannoli was very good. Staff was friendly.

Matan Kadosh

Can’t rave enough about the food here. It was ridiculously good! The best Italian food I think I’ve ever had. The atmosphere was very homey as well, while the staff was very caring. I encourage everyone to try this place! Hope this helps!

Spencer Love

Price was well worth it. Great food. Great service. The bartender was super sweet too!

Alda Benavides

Ordered the Choppino and the Diavolo Pizza. Pizza was good. The crust was delicious - I'm not a crust guy...just a crusty guy! :) The Choppino could have been better. Many other places use crabs or lobster to enrich the flavour. Not here. Up to you if you want to spend the $50 for it. Service was great, food was good, wine was fine.

Philip Jacob

Great linguini and meatballs. Would highly recommend

Stephanie Lalli

We love it here. The food and service is top notch. We are never disappointed!

PhillyBite Magazine

This small South Philly eatery may be the oldest Italian dining establishment in the country. Ralph’s of South Philly is right out of a scene from the Godfather movies. The food is delicious, the staff friendly and the atmosphere is both friendly and welcoming. One of our favorite Italian eateries in Philadelphia!

Thelma Brinson

The best Italian Restaurant by far located in the heart of Philly on 9th St. (not the King of Prussia Ralph's). This has a homey Italian feel to it and the service is outstanding. We were here to celebrate my grandsons graduation from Temple and there were 7 of us. We had an appetizer of mussels to share and then I had Shrimp Scampi while others had Veal Parmigiana and Eggplant Parmigiana and one chicken dish. A carafe of wine and a couple of individual glasses topped it off. A great meal for a great celebration.

Nolan Carpenter

This place is awesome! The veal capriciosa is great and the veal parm is better! The service was professional and friendly. The atmosphere reflects the history of the oldest Italian restaurant in America. The wine was good and well priced, in fact everything was a deal considering the portions and quantity. The cannoli was the best I've had. I will definitely be back.

Dariusz Ogrodnik

Delicious food and service. Friendly atmosphere and very good quality of ingredients.

Patricia Moyn

The best veal parm ever! Delicious bread. Cozy, Italian atmosphere.

Jen Anderson

Absolutely enjoyed our first experience here. Food and atmosphere was great. Reccomend this place but make sure you make reservations as they are certainly busy.

Troy Moore

Nothing out of the ordinary. Good but not great food. Definitely steeped in nostalgia making it worth the lunch stop.

Kelly Anne Smith

I just wrote a super long detailed review and stupid Google made it disappear for some reason on my phone right when I was going to push the post button so I will try again. Make sure you go to an ATM and pay cash before you come here. Service is hit-and-miss and there is no way to predict if it will be busy or not. Everything I've had here has either been excellent or good. You will not be disappointed!

Chris & Michelle Pace

Love the food and service

Katrina Miller

If you're looking for a good italian restaurant to eat while exploring Philadelphia this is definitely the place to go. Just make sure to call ahead to make a reservation. My group was lucky to get in without one. They are cash only so make sure to bring some with you. Their food is really good and decently priced. The tiramisu is a fantastic dessert to end the dinner with.

Joe Jackson

You should see my bride's smile when I say "if we're going to Philly, let's go to Ralph's. That's all you need to know.

Paige Oakley Anderson

I had to be rolled out. Authentic Italian. Best in Philly!

Ivan Tseytlin

Everything in the menu is a masterpiece, nice drinks. Perfect service. A go-to Italian place in Philly!

Brian Weigle

Amazing atmosphere and food. Dinner was great and dessert was devine!!! 3 meals, drinks and 4 desserts( took 1 home for later, lol) for a lil over $100. What a great price and value for any restaurant of this caliber.

Virginia Hopkins

Great pasta great service the chicken ravioli is my all-time favorite and the bread knots are addictive. I always enjoy eating there or whether it's take out or dine in.

Michael Spero

Old school Italian at it’s best. Red gravy is exceptional and service is always perfect.

Melissa Utyro

Loved this place!! Authentic Italian family vibe, food and wine were delicious. Our waitress offered great recommendations based on our taste. Will definitely be going back to try more dishes!

Pooja Chanda

Valet parking was super easy and the guy was very nice. However- it's not available until 5pm, at least on a Sunday. The customer service is exceptional. We were seated right away and the staff was extremely attentive and prompt. We never had empty glasses or an empty bread basket. The food was absolutely phenomenal. The mussels in the white sauce were extremely flavorful. My fiance got the ravioli which was homemade and cooked perfect. I got the rigatoni alla vodka with shrimp and the sauce was amazing, pasta was cooked PERFECT, and the shrimp was sweet and tender. We shared a cannoli for dessert and the filling was delicious! Their wine was also fantastic. Loved it here!!!!!! Note, it is cash only.

Austin Stoltzfus

This place is truly unique and authentic. The service was good and the food was served hot. Their red marinara sauce was absolutely phenomenal! I also felt like everything was priced fairly. You really can't ask for too much more, I highly recommend you try Ralph's.

John Romano

It is very good Italian food.

nicholas mazzone

Never have I had a bad meal the muscles white The veal social buca the best

Jed Watkins

Pretty neat little piece of history here. The food was good, the service was familial. I definitely recommend it as a place worth going to if you are visiting Philly. I will likely go back on my later visits to the area. Take a cab or be prepared to pay a reasonable price for valet parking. There is no parking to speak of there. Not a complaint as the valet service was good as well, just letting you know!

Regina Smith

We really enjoyed our dinner. The food reminded me of my Mother in laws great cooking. I got the lasagna and the pasta was really light and the filling was delicious. The service was terrific. We share some tiramisu for dessert that was amazing. They also have valet parking!

Charles Mahon

The food was amazing. The service was excellent. Took some friends from out of town overall great experience.

George Young

Excellent Italian food served in very generous portions. Worth a stop if you're near the Italian Market.

Marni Smith

There's a reason this place has been open for 119 years. Old school, authentic and delicious.

Torrey Vegter

The food was good but didn't blow me away. The vodka sauce on my pasta was good, but I found it hard to taste with the pasta. Either needed more sauce or stronger flavors.

Sandra Stiver

Excellent homemade pasta. Old world appeal

Chris Geiss

Food not good service nice but very slow so over rated. Never again

Yağmur Yen

The food is delicious!! When we stepped in the restaurant we felt like as if we were in south Italy! We didn’t have a reservation, however they found a table for us. Our table was on the second floor, which was very noisy that we couldn’t hear each others’ talk.

Flor Castellano

Cluttered! Unorganized and getting your check took forever! Like 45 minutes! We were a party of 15. Then they wouldn’t split the check. The waiter was like here figure it out and let me know how much you want charged on each card. The space between tables is non existent. I don’t t understand all the good reviews. The food was okay at best. I enjoyed being with my family but the service was a 2-Star at best. They are definitely also overpriced for a single meal. No salad or soup offered with dinners. I’ll gladly go pay $7 for a pack of beer, not a single beer that I have to get myself out of a fridge next to the bar. Their prices are comparable to a high end italian restaurant with roomy seating and professional staff. That place is not anything like that!

Pejmon Noor

This place is fire! We look for excuses to go out and eat here! Best Italian I've had while living in Philly thus far!

Methew Oliver

Some of their menu items are really good which other fails to match expectations .Their chicken dishes, shrimps and desserts are really good.Would not recommended the the pizza as it was loaded with oil and lacked flavor. The ambiance is nice and the staff is friendly but they seriously need to improve certain food items.

John Mcnair

2nd time here, better than the 1st time, and the 1st WAS AMAZING! LOVE YHIS PLACE! Food was absolutely fantastic and the service was impeccable! I'm a fan!

Marcus Luce

Love it. So glad they've maintained much of the old world charm of the original decor. Food = delicious. Staff = great

Blake Albertson

Cool spot with some history behind it. One of the oldest restaurants in the country. Hard to go wrong with the long hots and chicken parm. Everything else looked delicious.

Marsha Rosenthal

South Philly can't get more funnier small intimate if you don't mind small. Great service delectable food make reservations I had a beautiful dinner with a long time friend & business associate. Make sure to order the tiramisu for a lasting forever dessert. Make it Ralph's for Friday night dinner!!

Rachel Anderson

If you’re in the area do yourself a favor and come check out this Italian restaurant. It’s by far the best Italian restaurant near South Jersey and in Philadelphia that you can find

lance kellam

Excellent family run establishment offering authentic Italian cuisine at affordable prices in a beautiful yet approachably comfortable space. The best Italian dishes I've tasted in philadelphia, we literally started planning our menu choices for the next visit before entrees came out. Lays claim to the oldest Italian restaurant consistently in operation in America. Highly recommended.

Scott Lake

Fantastic food and service. Not to mention the history of the place

Michael Scheck

Love this place! Great food and super cool atmosphere.

Tracey Webb

Food was very tasty! Portions very small especially for the price. It's also very warm and stuffy. They crammed us in like sardines

Jo Martin

We stop here every time we are in the area. The first time we came, I made reservations for the next night before or check came. Everything we've had has been delicious, fresh and traditional. Service is amazing, even on the tight downstairs space. Make it part of your next trip to Philly (and make sure you have reservations!). FYI, vallet parking is available
