Amazing bar/pub/ale House. You gotta experience it to understand how amazing is this place. It has so much history...., I can right a book here. They have a chair Lincoln himself was sitting on. Personal invitation to opening ceremony of Brooklyn bridge. Many other celebrities visited this place. Place is kept the way it was from the beginning, from 1850th. They have only 2 kind of beers here, they make them in site, dark and light. Once you order one they give you 2 glasses, that's how they measure it here. Prices are very good especially for Manhattan. Location is good, close to all and in the heart of everything. To learn about this bar you'd better come during the week, midday somehow, this way you will have time and chance to look around, read what's on walls, talk to waiters who will tell you much more about this place. Very nice place.

Eric Chatfield

Old old old pub house beers... Only two of them. Watch before you order or you will look like a fool. Order single (1) or double (2) then decide light or dark. This is where it gets odd. The dark beer tastes lighter than the light. The light is a deep tasting pilsner. Both good but not what you would expect. Enjoy. And don't curse!

Essie Allison

During my visit to Vegas last September, I made sure to stop by this bar! I love their novelty cups, staff was nice and conversational, and the atmosphere of the whole place is really relaxing and fun. The drinks were good and me and my friends had a really good time visiting here, we definitely plan on visiting again next time i'm in Vegas!

ankit jain

Lovely in house beer. True representation of old pub. I loved their in house porter and ale beer. 100% much visit spot for beer lovers

Vincent Semidei

The oldest and less expensive pub in NYC... What are you waiting for ? Just go for it.

Nick B Steves

Fantastic experience, affordable reasonable quality craft beer--Both kinds: Light and Dark. Both are good. Sensible menu for sensible prices, but be sure to order the special before they run out. A real gem of a place, but not for people allergic to getting to know strangers. You'll probably share a table with some. Not for the overly fussy. Very, very casual and friendly spot.

Tracey Rossi

Always friendly inviting wait staff. Great ale, reasonable prices. We had hamburgers for lunch, each cooked exactly as ordered. Fresh made, not frozen. They don't overload you with fries either, just the right amount. Beautifully, tastefully decorated for Christmas!

Evan Wise

Super cool place. They assumed I was a local because of my facial hair I think, and after I said it was my first time in, I was welcomed just as much as a regular. Simple pub food for good prices, and decent beer for very cheap. Hell yeah. No wonder this place is a staple.

Neil Cavendish

So this place is awsome! Dark or light beer. Cheap and tasty! Bar staff are over run so don't expect them to be friendly. One of the oldest bars in NYC so don't miss out on this gem. $6 for 2 glasses (secretly that adds up to one beer

Jenni OMalley

Awesome bar and friendly owner! 2 for 1 beers!

Ricardo García

Great place! Awesome historic NY style decor; shared tables and great chips (with vinegar or ketchup). They'll ask you two questions when you arrive: how many (people)? Blonde or dark (beer)? Beer gets there fast, in two glasses, and you're good to go!

Tilman Benecke

I love this place! Enormous history from the beginning, through the time of prohibition until now. Enjoy the unique atmosphere and the dark/white beer they brew.

William Windlow

Absolutely amazing pub! The beer is spot on and the fish and chips was excellent! This place has an amazing presence with loads if history in it. Definitely a mecca for the craft beer enthusiast!

Garrett Nakamoto

Hands down, the best (and oldest) Irish pub in the city. I always find time to sneak down here to have 2 lights and 2 darks. Cash only and only two types of beers on tap (light or dark) keep it simple and perfect. ✌️

Marcus Jefferson

Excellent vintage bar in the East Village. There are only 2 types of beer, but the atmosphere is great and it somehow all works.

Geoffrey Si

2 beers for 6 dollars. Cash only. Old history with a really interesting look. Almost everything in the bar is historically old, from the bar to the tables to the bathroom. They have a small food menu, and its decent food for a good price.

Daryush Nourbaha

The oldest pub in New York City will transport you back in time as you walk in through the swinging saloon doors. They have two types of ale here: light and dark and the menu is a chalkboard up behind the bar. The prices are fair and the food and drinks are both delicious. Cheers!

Maria Mateescu

A classic old dive bar (as suggested by the sawdust on the floor) with a long history. They serve two kind of beer light and dark. 10/10 I’d go for the dark over the light. And the beer always comes in two. Their dark is very smooth and dangerously drinkable. Will be returning next I’m in New York.

Jacob M

a nice old time pub that only serves two beers (light and dark)...dark is better in my opinion. great atmosphere and a great time

Trinka Myers

Never disappoints!! Fun Friday night atmosphere!!

Jim Koe

Great beer! And you can feel history all around the place.

Bruce Davison

My, "Center of the Universe", it always draws me back. This time on my birthday. Oldest bar in NYC. Old world charm. They only serve two beers, light or dark ale. No liquor here. Cheese platter is a great complement to the beer. Cheese on a cracker with a small piece of onion and hot mustard, mustard that is on each table. Order at least 2 mugs of beer at a time, even for one person. Very easy to drink. Expect to meet tourists, ask to sit at communal tables in back.

Shyam Sundar

Cash only Nice rustic place for some cheap beers. Owner keeps refilling 2 choices: pilsner, dark

Geraldine HEIN

Unique experience! Friendly staff, good beer and good price

Austin Walker

McSorely’s is well known for being one of the oldest bars in NYC (fourth oldest to be exact) and has been operating since 1854! You feel as if you’re walking in a time machine when you step through the rickety doors. The bar is filled with a myriad of pictures and old relics, indicative of an older era while the floors are sprinkled with sawdust which add to the unique atmosphere for which the bar gets its luster. McSorely’s keeps it simple, like it has for 164 years, they offer two beers on tap: light and dark. Both beers are delicious and served in eight-bounce glasses, you’ll receive two glass mugs per order. Because if their unique serving style, McSorely’s is one of the few places you can drink “eighteen beers” and still be a functioning adult (well, kinda). You come here for the history, the authentic experience as a great pub to grab a brew. Ideal of casual weekend drinking or a fun recommendation for friends visiting the city.

Laura Bechtol

The bartender had been there 47 years. Great fun and a great historian. A must see

Rod Stokes

One of the coolest places I have been. Loved the history and lore of the place. Ask the barman Sean about the m ed memorabilia on the walls, or anything else about the place, and you're in for a treat. He's a personable historian of the place and happy to share what he knows. It's the oldest running Irish pub in NYC. Definitely worth a visit. Bring cash, for they don't take credit cards.

Gerard Scott

First time here, loving their gimlet its so yummy. live music fun people great service, what more can i say? its my new favorite place! I hear they have another location where there is a secret door that leads to a hidden bar behind a wall of kegs.

Erik Ern

The burger was delicious, but the meat only. Toasted buns would make all the difference.

Rachel Tagaisla

Always an experience coming here. My aunt married an Irishman and enjoys bringing all guests (including myself) here every time I’m in town. It’s my third time but it always felt the same—like it is frozen in time

JESSE SCHNEIDER

Well known Irish pub. Oldest operating pub around. Had a great time here hanging with some Canadians. Don’t ask for a wheat beer or a drink menu, they will quickly remind you that they have only light or dark beer. We had two rounds of both and a cheese platter. The mustard sauce on a saltine with cheese and onion washed down with a few mugs of ale. They had a TV in the back and it almost felt wrong given the history and feel of the place. Cash only, had a great time for a few hours.

Trent Nutter

Good experience and a staple of New York city. If your on the area I'd recommend stopping by and experiencing history.

Matthew Caspi

Such a cool place. You're literally drinking at a piece of history. Sawdust on the floor, old draft system on display (don't believe it's in use anymore), and all of these antiques everywhere. Even the plumbing in the bathrooms are from like day one. They offer two kinds of beer here, light or dark. Dark is like a stout. Each serving comes in two medium sized beer mugs. Not my favorite NYC bar by a long shot, but a cool place to hang out and enjoy beer, I definitely recommend but it can get extemely crowded (a plus for those who like that atmosphere).

LINDA CHERRY

Having a beer in one of the oldest pubs in NYC makes for a fun time. Great vibe, people, and location.

wai-kit chu

This is one of the coolest bars in nyc and always try to go when I am in area or when i have friends in town. Their bartenders are tough but fair and always have a good attitude. As for beers, it's either light or dark. They do have snacks if you are feeling hungry. It's simple and does the job!

JJ Guaragno

The legend of McSorleys being one of the oldest continuously operated drinking establishments is the draw here. No gimmicks or nationally known craft beers. There was and will always be 2 options: dark or light. The beers are served in …

TourguideStan O'Connor

One of the oldest bars - definitely the oldest Irish bar - in town. They say that, since they were open in 1858, that candidate Abraham Lincoln drank there after debating Stephen Douglas just down the block. Could be. The last time they decorated was 1936. And there are memorabilia around which are much older. "THEODORE ROOSEVELT FOR VICE PRESIDENT" poster from 1900. JFK, RFK posters and buttons. A pair of handcuffs that belonged to a police sergeant. Why are they here? Because Houdini was here in 1910. The sergeant put Houdini into his own handcuffs, and Houdini got out of them! This is not a bar for mixed drinks. You can either have McSorley's light ale or McSorley's dark ale. If you come on Saint Patrick's Day, expect a line out the door. Any other day of the week is fine. McSorley's is a wonderful, fascinating old spot that is on my tours, just because it's so much fun to go in there, sit, have a couple months of Ale and gaze at all the wonderful buttons, Flags, political banners on the wall, as well as the painting of the naked lady.

TOG Traveler

Cool, historic tavern. Same as it was over 150 years ago. Sawdust on the floor, choice of only light or dark ale on tap, limited menu of old school snacks, i.e. cheese plate, liverwurst sandwich, etc. Small place, tough to get a table, waiters are grumpy, but worth visiting this remnant of antebellum NYC.

Matt Ringrose

Great pub with a wonderfully rustic atmosphere. They serve two types of house-brewed beer: light and dark. They come in sets of 2 for $6. They also serve a limited food menu. The staff is friendly and fast. The bar itself is full of history and memorabilia. It was great experience and a lot of fun.

David Hanson

This place is amazing! It was a Sunday and my Cousin-in-law and I walked all over the city and this place was a suggestion. He works in Manhattan and has been here a few times and figured i would like it and I do. I enjoyed the beer, I loved the burger and decided to get a couple t-shirts for friends at home. What was interesting was the interior of the bar and the many items and the stories about the wish bones. I loved it!

Trey Palmisano

Whenever I travel, I'm always on the outlook for places steeped in history. So when I learned of McSorley's, I knew it would have to be a stop on my itinerary. It did not disappoint. From the moment you walk in, you feel yourself in a …

Emiliano Pelaez

This place is very unique, lots of wood and very old. Both dark & light beers were good. The mugs probably hold about 10 oz. and you get some foam, still a good deal and a great experience. The cheese & crackers (and raw onions) plate is simple but goes well with the beer Mustard at the table is good but Hot! (tasted a lot of wasabi)

Clayton Long

No matter the time of day the drinks are cheap and the atmosphere is amazing. One of the oldest bars in NYC and you can feel the history when you walk in. Go in the evening and you really get the traditional Irish pub feel. They seat you with people you dont know and you always end up in some fun conversation and most likely the whole bar will break into song. I always make it a point to go when people visit me.

Kenneth Han

This place was awesome. I hear how amazing the food is, but both the light beer and dark beer are amazing. Cash only, 2 options of beer and couldn't be better. The service is grand, they have no issues asking people to move or to make room so that parties can be together. This place is proper good drinking and conversation fun, let alone the history of the place. Such an amazing time and cannot wait to go back. This is a must go If you are in the area!

Daniel Webster

They absolutely stick to their guns on how things are done which is actually a breath of fresh air. You don't have to decipher a complicated menu. It's a great simple pleasure and they have AC haha

Deneen Barnwell

Not a beer drinker, ppl didn't seem to understand that. You have two choices: light ale or dark ale. Fries were good though.

Starsky Adames

Live going to the place. Order one of each dark and light. Pretty good beer, haven’t had the food here. Cool place to start your night any day of the week.

Jorge Varella

Very old bar. Nice to drink beer. It’s not a good place for a romantic dinner. But the beers are great. You have to go there with an open mind, because you’re going to share the table with other people. A nice way to know knew ones

Cyle Lublin

What can I say that hasn’t been said about this wonderful establishment. Vintage warmth, sticky floors with the saw dust, the dank smell of stale beer in the air (for some reason was endearing to the place).

David Szeszler

Great depending on what you're in the mood for. The beer is tasty and cheap, the food is ok. During the weekends the crowds can be overwhelming, so if you want a quieter atmosphere you need to come during the week and even then it gets somewhat crowded.

Michael Cowie

This bar is history! It was like walking in to the past but had a very present conversation with Irish Michael (the taller one, boxer), what a gent! The two Michael's were great. Thank you for such great dark and showing me a place that I never even imagine. Lots of love! P.S. for telling me about the Corner Stone.

David Chin

Old bar, historical and very orderly. Service is prompt and upon delivery bangs the beers when served .

Felix Ludwig

Great bar and you'll get 2 beers by only paying for one nice place to be

Andrés González Camino

A very unique experience. An old tavern with traditional ale. Just cash. No wifi. No photos.

Dan Zimmerman

Amazing history. Great beer and awesome customer service

Mark Hager

Awesome, fun, historical place. You will definitely meet and have a great conversation with people you didn't know when you arrived. The servers are terrific too

robert buggy

Best bar in THE WORLD, possibly the universe, time will tell

Michael Vierra

This place. What more can I say? There is a level of amazement and ambiance that accompany every trip here. They serve McSorley's light and dark here & yeah it's absolutely delicious. Items like simple crackers, cheese & onions all the way to belly busting, drinkers fare. Just my personal recommendation is to visit McSorley's your first time on a busy night, no time restrictions; make it your first stop. Then go experience an afternoon there, while the fading NYC sun pours through those windows that could tell a million stories. Have a quick 12 with the king & walk out of there with your half a saltine bag trophy. If something miffed you here. Then the reason is probably just above the mantle in the back room. Be good or be gone.

Barb Bulger

The staff couldn't have been nicer! We loved the atmosphere in this old school Tavern

Victor Gamarra

Excellent place for a drink at the 20s style. Cheap and delicious

Marie Guerre

What a great experience. It’s like going back in time. Plus the beer is delicious and the waiter is absolutely charming.

Darin Forde

Do I really need to say how cool this bar is?

Dale Trzebiatowski

Always a fun place to hang out. Come drink a beer or 20

John Goff

Love this place, basic, unassuming, 2 types of beer and a decent selection for food. A must experience if you're in town.

Jorge Escobar

Historic place! If you like beer and see park of NYC history this is a must! Great service though

Terence Dupree

Great time here. One of the oldest bars in the country and it still carries that vibe! There's only 2 types of beer here, Light or Dark. I typically don't prefer darker beer but I definitely like the dark beer better than the light. And the beer is cheap! Sold in pairs ($6) so if you ask for "two darks", you'll be served 4 mugs of dark beer. Server was awesome and we met some great people here!

Andrew Bellucci

What can I say - I've been going to McSorley's for years and it never disappoints: great beer at a great price: two mugs for $6.50. And yes, you have to order two at a time. I always go with one and one: One dark and one light. And don't sleep on their food menu.: great burger, solid specials and I usually go for their liverwurst and onion on rye with their awesome Horseradish Mustard. Historic place, popular with locals and tourists alike. Not to be missed.

AMANDA BLACK

Loved this place! Visited twice during our vacation. Great, simple historic bar with all of the traditional “feels”. Awesome. My family made this an official “must” stop tradition on our NY itinerary

Maxwell Sands

Great old bar. It has everything you want from an old pub. Cold beer, solid food and saw dust on the floor.

Megan Niquette

Recommended as a must visit place by a coworker, we loved this place. Beer is cheap and plentiful. Two choices, dark or light. Both are good!

Gary Bunting

My favourite place to drink in New York. 2 lights. 2 darks please.

Chris Reyes

For me!! The best old bar in NYC

Thomas Dvornik

Everything is old in this place, and it's great. Lively, loud, and fun, even for a quick drink.

Noe Huerta

Blast from the past, swell place to pull some back and enjoy how it was in the past only Dark or Light

Missy Tener

Historical pub. Two choices of beer, light or dark! They bring them two at a time!! I was surprised I preferred their dark beer. I love that they seated us commonly at a table with others and everyone was so friendly. Don't miss this opportunity to step back in time to a pub that's held its own for a century. There's so much interesting history in the decor. It's easy to spend hours here.

Jonggun Eun

Okay. I used to love this place. Special mood, amazing beer and history. Waiters were gentle and warm. But now waiters are horrible. I am not talking about ‘how polite they could be to customers’ , but waiters don’t even have the basic attitude and concept of serving customers. Unorganized, rude, lack of knowledge. Go here to have wonderful beer, but always stand and don’t even try spend penny for tips. Worthless.

wolliez marco

Good beer and a very chill neighborhood bar vibe. Staff are all great, and the beer is solid. Most of all, it's consistent, both the service and beer. Check out an event, they tend to do a pretty good job of 'em.

Lisa Sanchez

My favorite beer spot in the village... Haven't been here in a while, but we I came today it didn't fail. There are 2 choices of beer, light or dark. Both very good. There are a few food choices, but I always get the cheese and crackers with cheddar, it comes with sweet onions. Hits the spot every time, but I always spread the horseradish mustard on it. Yum!

Thomas Sætveit Jensen

An ale den brimming with character, displaying its 165 year history through a vast collection of memorabilia and the knowledge of its patrons and regulars. Your beer is house brewed, dark or light, and served in pairs of half pint glasses. Cash only.

rollie alexander

Great bartender and authentic real deal old timey bar!

Noah Corrion

The coolest bar I have ever been to. It is 2 beers for $6. They only take cash. You choose whether you want light or dark beer and that's it. There are a lot of community tables so you can meet a lot of new people and it is just a really good time. They also serve food and it all looked really good. To summarize; cheap beer, cheap food, and a great atmosphere. This makes it one helluva bar!

Hayden Davies

WITH OUT A DOUGHT THE BEST ALE HOUSE IN THE USA, JUST LOVED THE ATMOSPHERE FREINDLY STAFF AND MORE IMPORTANTLY THE DARK ALE.

Ryan Marek

The phrase "old school" has been thrown around a lot in the past 25 years, but this bar is deserving of that title. Great beer in small mugs at good prices. Bar food menu is limited, and rightfully so. Can't be doing something wrong if it's been over 160 years

Lauren Bailey

Staff was friendly and able to get us seats in the back even though it was very busy. Prompt service and the beer went down easy. Definitely a lot of tourists but still a very authentic, low key vibe.

Greg de Charleroy

Best pub in NY hands down. The amount of history in this place is awesome. The cheese platter is the most simple but perfect snack to go along with the light or dark ale. It is too easy to spend hours here. The best ale, and great food.

Norris Huber

Good beer and a very chill neighborhood bar vibe. Staff are all great, and the beer is solid. Most of all, it's consistent, both the service and beer. Check out an event, they tend to do a pretty good job of 'em.

sunitha suresh

This is one of the oldest ale place in NYC. You dont have choices to pick it's either dark or light, each drink is equal to two tiny drink bottles as below. Good place to go and drink beer on raw side.

Chuck Wood

The oldest bar in New York City has a lot of character as well as a lot of characters in it drinking beer. Beer is always sold two pints at a time one a light ail one at dark ale both extremely delicious. Was crowded when we were there you may need to elder your way in but just sitting in the empty seats and signal the bar man

Sid Shah

Awesome beer for a great price. Glasses are small, and it's foamy, but $6 for 2 glasses is great. Highly recommend the dark beer!

Clement Herring

Great Bar! I really like the atmosphere, the drinks and the bartenders. Quality drinks and so much fun for happy hour. Well worth it! I highly recommended.

richardmarsh82

Love visiting here everytime I'm in the City. Very traditional Irish ale house serving a light and a dark ale (no other beers) and some Irish style snacks. Complete with sawdust on the floor. Love the dark ale and you're served 2 half pint mugs at a time.

Nina Pisano

Their dark ale is tasty. Order one beer and you get two mugs! Their history and old world atmosphere are unique and needed. It gets way too crowded though. Food is good.

Ethan H.

If you enjoy old and humorous establishments then this is your place. Choices of drinks: light or dark ale. My wife and I preferred the light ale over the dark but they were both good. Honestly, this place is amazing.

Emery Clark

Old Irish pub, with wooden floors and tables, antiques lining the interior. Choice of "light" or "dark" beer with small portions but double serving. Always a lively crowd and good vibes. A must see.

Karen Lewis

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to McSorley's Old Ale house in the East Village when we were in NYC last fall. Super busy and fun vibe - they seated us and our kids for dinner and drinks and served up delicious food and brew, and kept the drinks coming. The walls are rich with historica photos and mementos - so even if you dine or drink alone, there is plenty to keep your attention. They only accept cash for payment, so be prepared for that - we weren't! When we were leaving, they even gave us some really neat postcards with the original photo of McSorleys from the early 1900's.

Katerina Zavalnyk

Wow, this place has so much history! I couldn't stop looking at all those photos and newspaper articles they have on the walls. They serve two ales, one dark and light, that are pretty good. The food is decent, too. I ordered burger with fries and it was ok, though the bun was a little bit cold. The old guy at the bar is very talkative, and I guess, he can tell you everything about this place and its history, but some of his jokes are too much. I felt a little bit uncomfortable.

srijita banerjee

This place has a great vibe even on week nights

Ernie Gallagher

Not a review as such, but I'm reading Joseph Mitchell's Up in the Old Hotel at the moment, fascinated with 'McSorley's Wonderful Saloon' and can't believe I was on Lafayette Street last year, so close and never got down for a jar (first incredible trip to New York from Ireland and just getting my bearings). Next time, you'll be top of my list. So five stars in advance, 'cause I know that's what it's gonna be

Jamie M

Old, different and friendly. 6$ for 2 light beers. Great vibe.

Ric Wilson

There is so much history here and the bartender was very nice to my twin 16 year old boys. You can order a light or dark beer.

Chris Archela

Terrible customer service!!! The staff is really rude and have no intention to treat costumers politely. Run away!!!! The beer is good though! But good beer we can find in many other places! Did I say avoid it???

Mary O Brien

Absolutely a Must Go To place.. Its amazing and the Guys are so Nice and very Friendly

Jon Ratcliff

Really cool place to visit, makes you feel like you are back in the 1850's! Which I loved, cash only and simple menu.

Jaxon Wright

Can't go wrong here. The place is unforgettable

Rory O'Doherty

Love this spot. Brenden takes such great care of his clients. Would highly recommend it!

Tom Worth

Only two choices, get light and dark ale and alternate, both are good. Your here for the atmosphere complete with sawdust on the floors and sharing tables with next group that comes in. Can't be missed!

Dwight Spiegelberg

Two kinds of beer. Light or dark. Really good

Elba Kendrick

Stopped in here and had a great time with my buddy and Ana was our server. Great lady and great suggestions. Food was very good and drinks were fabulous. Good spot and will certainly return.

A Google User

The food tasted really good. I thought a $15 burger was a bit pricey. The service was great and the drink selection was fantastic. I would come back just to try a few other things on the menu.

Jarrod Hunt

Everyone's already explained the history of this place so I won't repeat. Worth a visit as it feels like a step back in time.

Nico Amatullo

Went with a friend on St.Patrick’s Weekend and we were treated to some grand drinks, the choices being either dark ale or light ale. This Irish pub was fantastic and had super quick service. The atmosphere is splendid and is one of the oldest bars in the city holding the title “we were here before you were born”, definitely a place we’ll be coming back to for another weekend soon!

Steven Dakh

This place is legit. I love how they serve you two beers at once. Good place to grab a drink with some friends.

Boris Kolot

As good as years before. Ждите отстоя пены :) for everybody got it

Nicolas D.

Can't go wrong when going to a bar established 1854. Great staff that makes you feel at home with some good beer

Johnathan Durr

Got to love a place that serves beer either dark or light. Went earlier in the day and all beers were two for one. Enjoyed a few beers and the atmosphere. Lots of historical photos and clippings are on the walls. Unusual, antique urinals as well.

Edward Hayes

Short beers, tall tales, and grumpy bartenders. Great entertaining evening spent here! Cash only as credit cards machines didn't exist when the place was last renovated in 1849. If you're a single or a couple they'll probably ask you to share your table, good way to meet random new yorkers.

Joseph Sziabowski

A classic, I am told. Fun place to visit and sample one of two beer choices, light and dark. Eclectic crowd.

Geekstronomy

This place has great history. Amazing beer simple food that is inexpensive and enjoyable

L Cook

Bartenders were great. The only alcohol they serve here is light and dark beer. When you order a single beer, it comes in two smaller mugs. The beer was delicious and I really enjoyed it despite I don’t like beer.

Kyle S

Really loved stopping here for a beer after exploring some of the touristy areas. Certainly lived up to expectations and everything you read about the beer and it's charm hold true.

Mike R.

Awesome little bar old school feel with a unique atmosphere.

Áron Haáz

Loved it from the first moment. The atmosphere, the beers, the serving is cool and awesome, just the way I like it...

Karl 1974

Old-time bar with Irish bartenders, 2 kinds of ale (light or dark) & sawdust on the floor.

A.C. Antonelli

This is it. The legendary McSorley's. The oldest continuously operated pub in NYC. Beers are served 2 at a time, and you can have any beer you like, as long as it's either light or dark, but the bar is cash only (there's an ATM 2 doors down). That said, this is the pub that other pubs hung posters of on their bedroom walls when they were just little pubs. Walking in here is like going back in time. The walls are covered in history and the floors are covered in sawdust. Honestly, the amount of history that has taken place in this bar, and the personalities that have walked through those doors, is staggering. Go be a part of it.

Ryan Cola

Love this bar, from the decor to the saw dust on the floor. Always a great time. The bar only serves two types of beers- dark & light.

Olivia Paquette

Very cool no nonsense pub with lots history. I am not a fan of dark beer but their house dark is so good, I was pleasantly surprised.

Antonio Jacobs

Oldest pub in NYC is a good place for a quick pint or two, sometimes a meal. A must visit.

David Seitz

Loved up to the hype. Great on a Thursday afternoon.

Ben Bredeson

Great place that's for sure a little dated in the most charming way. It's simple (only 2 beer choices) with food that looks simple but tasty. Worth a stop if in the city.

Nick Zubrycki

Really awesome bar. The beers were delightful, the service was excellent. Everything has a story.

Moe Turman

Old time beers with a cheese plate was a great for a closer to the night, I've been here a few times before and it's never a miss.

Andrea Gonzalez

Great food and great company in a historic place. I’m glad women are allowed now

Alan Overcash

Amazing atmosphere cheap beer from New York but to make their own beer for so long it is beer that you Can’t get and is really good. They bottle it but it’s not as good.

Mister Jon

This is an absolute must see for those who like history and/or beer. Be sure to bring cash though, they do not accept credit cards. You have a choice of lite or dark beer (both are surprisingly good). You get two mugs for $6. Mugs are filled half with liquid and half with foam, so really, you're buying about one beer. There is a very limited food menu, but the burger and fries were as good as you'd expect from a bar/pub. There is so much history on the walls, you'll definitely want to look around. Also notice the floor has sawdust on it - - a vestige of the days when bar patrons would spit tobacco (and miss the spitoon). There is plenty of other history you can read about (check Google), including how it used to be a men's only club until about 1970. Overall, an amazing experience.

Such a great place with awesome vibe!! Can't beat having a beer in same bar that President Lincoln and Ulysses Grant did. Tons of historical photo's, old time character, and great atmosphere....beer, food, and service is great too!!

Akash Shembekar

A historical bar with over 150 years of history. Serves one of the best Irish there is. Accepts cash only. And serves only beer. Quite crowded in the evenings in general, full to the brim on Fridays and Saturdays and some Wednesdays as well.

Thomas Axelrad

Great place to chill and grab a cold one, or ten. Cash only, dark or light beer. You get two mugs per order.

David Murphy

Great proper pub, there are only two kinds of beer, they only come in half glasses, they're presented as beer rather than artisanal delicacies, and they're both great. The place feels like a time capsule, the service was surly but charming.

Antonio Lanese

It really worth the visit. If you like old school style and have fun. ;)

Love this place for it's beer and rustic ambience. Over past 4 years in NYC I have brought all my tourist friends to this place and everyone loved it. It's truly a hidden gem of NYC.

Alexander Santamaria

Great pub..I tried to order a drink and was quickly informed that it was light or dark. Light or dark beer only so I ordered both..they bring a hand full of beers quickly and slam them on the table. Loved it lol Very fun cool staff that …

Interesting old world make house. Only 2 kinds of ales..Light or dark. Limited board menu. Cash only. Lots of atmosphere. Worth a stopover.

David Schwartz

For something that people might avoid as a tourist trap it sure doesn't feel like one. Didn't have a chance to try the food but the basic ales were all I needed. One light, one dark, and mix them together. The staff are super alert and always quick to get you what you need. An awesome place to hang out with your friends.

No frills beer, fried food, old school service and sawdust on the floor, what more do you need?

Smitty McWong

the all time go to for light or dark beer. always chug your first one, at least that's the rules I was taught the first time i went there. I love that it is a no frills bar that offers 2 style beers and thats it. It also does help that both beers are delicious in their own ways and the staff is very efficient at doing their jobs quickly. Spend some time here and read all the old clippings and articles on the walls as well as looking at the many old pictures that fill the place.

David

Two types of good beer with prompt service. Cheese and crackers with onions and mustard are available to snack on and they pair great with the beer!

Brian Dean

Charming bar with plenty of history and character. Lovely chatting to the owner too and standing me a half was appreciated. Love ''Liverpool'' (Brian)

We had a great experience, our server was 3rd generation he was great made us feel at home and didn't mind having a conversation with us either

Michael Zapantis

This is one of my new favorite places to go ever. The service is impeccable despite being there during a crowded time. Gregory claimed that he could carry 26 beers at once to bring to a table! Songs were sang and people were having a lot of fun. The history behind this gem is priceless as well. I would suggest you read “Up In the Old Hotel” by Joseph Mitchell to get an idea of some of the people that used to frequent McSorley’s in the early 20th century. Highly recommend and I will be back!

Kieran Eusden

The sawdust give this place an awesome smell. Steeped in history and serves only 2 ales which are fantastic. Next time I'll try the food!

Vincent Liu

I believe this is the oldest Irish pub in Manhattan. There are two kinds of beers on top, a light bitter ale, and a dark Porter like ale. Cozy atmosphere, cash only

Eric House

An interesting place with lots of great history. Personal favorites, no piece of memorabilia has been removed from the walls since 1910 and Houdini's handcuffs are there.

Robert Anderson

Really cool old bar. Tons of history, and very authentic vibe. The serve two beers - "dark" or "light". Small snacks and sandwiches. It seemed like the cheese and crackers snack plate was popular. I really enjoyed visiting and would recommend. Cash Only, but there are several ATMs nearby

James Darrell

Very authentic NY feel. Guy looked just like the guy in photos on the wall from decades ago. Lights and darks were both excellent, as was the hash. Just like being in Ireland. Literally feel like you've gone back in time and are inside of a piece of history. Plus sawdust on the floor.
