Amazing food, great service, truly authentic. Expect a wait because this place is legit!
A word of caution: you will only be allowed to sit upstairs at the "barbecue tables" if you order two or more of the pricy barbecue packages ($28+ each). Downstairs, it's a tight space--so tight, in fact, that one guest behind us was seated at the same table as a pair of strangers, with a (useless) divider in between. Not particularly clean. Food is just okay--soup too salty, spicy sauce too sweet. By the way, don't be fooled by the signs and stickers: this restaurant appears in the Michelin guide, but isn't Michelin starred.
Delicious meats, great side dishes. Every table has a charcoal grill. Waiters insist on cooking for you - don't let them burn your meat. They like it well done. Otherwise great service. Reservations suggested or expect to wait a while. Has full service bar
Great food, quick service. A very relaxed ambience of the restaurant!
Best Korean BBQ I have ever had!
dumb chopt. one of the vegetarian dishes was so flavorless and plain. hurt my feelings
The BBQ is decent, but the side dishes are really small compared to the amount of meat. The kimchi they gave us was a tiny tiny bit of it. Barely got the flavour. You end up eating meat on its own for lack of salad/sides. A bit disappointing considering the price.
Now this place is great I had there salmon the best I ever tasted
Excellent, tasty food. Professional, friendly service. Clean atmosphere . Can't wait to go back!
It was really good! Hard to get in contact with a waiter and the bathrooms weren't as clean as I would like but the food was delicious. Had the kimchi cheese fries and the Dducbaegi Bulgogi. Both were very filling!
Decent banchan and Korean BBQ. Was seated more quickly than other places. The sauces were the only not great part of the meal. Japchae was also not great.
My first time for lunch and I had Spicy Galbitang and boy it was good!! Highly recommended.
Food comes with large portions so will definitely good for a big meal. They have good soup and many different choices if you come as a group for sharing plates. Quite authentic, will recommend, just be prepared for a long waiting list for dinner time.
Came to this place at 5:30 on Saturday. Already full with people. 1F for normal Korean food and 2F for BBQ. Service was standard but I believe somehow they skipped our order because there were other people say down later but got their dishes prepared first (not just one). Later they gave the bill and tea before we asked. It made me feel like they were rushing up to "kick" us out because there was a long line and we were sitting for a bit long. Nevertheless, the food meet the norm of Korean food. Nothing impressive nor disappointed.
I have never had Korean food, this was fantastic. Our server was outstanding. Would go back in a heart beat!!
Great meat but customer service needs little bit of work.
I been to two people. The restaurant gave seats for 6people 15 minutes. 3 people 25min. For us 1 hour. Never go to 2 people! I was first guests!
Excellent food., decent service. We had the BBQ and the samgyeopsal jim (recommended by the staff). The latter is fantastic and the BBQ are very good. Excellent food, can't complain. If only the service comes with more smiles.
Very fun experience. Would highly recommend.
It felt like an authentic experience. They have good meats and the staff cooks the meats in front of you if you opt for the kbbq. This place is also very busy so come early to avoid the wait.
Very family friendly restaurant with highchairs and space to park strollers. Three floors of seatings! Meat quality is top notch! Other food are super delicious too. Great ambience and friendly service. Highly recommend!
A little on the pricier side for Korean BBQ, but their marinated short rib will not disappoint you. You have to wait to be seated, but table service was good. They also had a soju+beer special which was a great deal
The fish was awesome! We went for the lunch menu but the lunch menu was not available instead we got mackerel. The fish was so nicely grilled that I was glad I tried something else than beef grill. The food is super tasty.
Very nice service, they are always attentive to everything. The price of the food is good compared to all the u get from one order. And the food is really good.
Great Korean BBQ. A bit crowded but great service and atmosphere.
Really good Korean barbecue, same standard as expected in Asia
The staff were kind of rude, they do not look happy with what they do. Also the food is a little pricey based on quality
After walking up and down 32nd street, we finally settled at this place for Korean BBQ. We were not disappointed. The meats were flavorful. The chicken was tender but not a lot of taste. The ban chai were plentiful and very good. Upstairs is for BBQ with the requisite tables and exhaust hood. The service was excellent. They cook the meat for you on the grill and take it off when it’s just right so you don’t over cook it. The steamed egg that came with the ban chai was excellent! We ordered combo #2 and we had two people. We could not finish everything — we were sooo stuffed! Overall, a very enjoyable experience. The price was on the high side but the quality was pretty good.
If you want expensive, over hyped, average to bland Korean food, come here. I really don't get the 4.4 stars...I got really flavorless nyeng myun (cold noodle soup)...one of my favorite things to eat...that I only ate half of...my friend got bibimbap which was really skimpy on the toppings...the only good dish was the pork belly dish (appetizer). To top off the experience, as my friend and I are leaving, I notice we got fewer banchan dishes than other tables (??). Not worth coming back to.
Food was very tasty. Service was polite and courteous. Prices were reasonable. Went during lunch, so we had to wait for a few minutes, but it wasn't long at all.
Wonjo is the place to be to try authentic Korean BBQ. They have a big menu, so if you need help, dont be afraid to ask, all of the staff are super knowledgeable. If you go for the BBQ menu, be prepared to spend some money, it is not cheap (40+ for a meat dish for 1 to 2 people). Theres a VERY long wait for the dinner rush. I would advise sending one person early to wait on line. I dont believe they take reservations.
Great food. Really enjoyed it. The meat is marinated, the flavor is really good.
Very good
Use to go when it was Sheila's. Loved it then. Love it now.
So incredibly tasty. You can't go wrong.
Great place! Would recommend the cocktail soju and seafood pancake
Delicious and great service. Banchan is fresh and all so good. Highly recommend!!!!
One word WOW! The food was amazing. We need one of these in Fl because I would definitely be a regular customer.
Hostess had a nasty attitude! Left without ordering!
Awesome food!! Great service !
Bad service and guy with pink shirt gave me an attitude and bad response after I asked why the soup had little meat in it. I have come here before and wanted to give it another try. I wanted to try their spicy pork rib soup. For 18$ of a soup I was expecting a big bowl and big pieces of meat just like the menu and pictures online. Instead there was no meat , and when ask the male manager in pink shirt is there was a possibility to getting more meat instead of bone? his response was you get what you get , THATS IT!! Gave me a Death Stare!! And walk away!! Come on really!! This is America buddy, learn some culture how to treat customers and know that if you going to charge 18$ for a plate make sure that it’s consistent proportion. Otherwise I would have just gone to Gallery 13 and grab a full plate for less the price!!! I’ll never come here again!!!! Left hungry and dissatisfied and disappointed
Good food and it's open 24 hours. But the prices are a little high. I always order the Japchae and the Tofu Bibimbap and it's a little expensive considering they're meatless and presumably less expensive to make.
Great spot for K BBQ! Love their steamed egg for brunch too.
Very good food, good service, best steaks
Korean barbeque upstairs, cooked over hot coals at your table. Bibimbap and hot pot downstairs. Remember, a good restaurant is always crowded. The place was packed. Well worth the 20 minute wait.
Amazing deals, great food and service!
Great place. Fast service but expensive
My wife like the food and the waiters and waitress who served us on table were very nice. However the waiter seating awaiting customers was not patient at all. For multiple times he messed up the seating orders for customers arriving in different time and was even rude to one customer(saying f**k word to the other customer who complained to him about the seating orders). So sad with the 1 hour waiting experience. There are many good Korean restaurants in Korean town why I want to go this place any more?
Exceptional quality Korean food. Michelin recommend they say. I would agree!
The food and atmosphere were good. The waitress was nice too, we were ok the second floor. My one gripe is that only one waitress was on charge of the whole floor (along with a buser and a hostess.) Give the poor girl some help!
Excellent food, and service! We arrived at 9:30pm on a Saturday night and were seated around 10pm since we didn’t want to wait the extra half hour for bbq (upstairs). Ordered Korean bbq pork which had a delicious sauce and came with sides to mix and match. Meat came cooked since we were seated in regular seating (downstairs ). Also had a delicious seaweed salad and a good but underwhelming bibimbap. Service was quick and polite. Would return especially for full Korean BBQ.
Great Korean BBQ place, do check out their lunch specials, great value and lots to choose from.
Great place .they been doing the Korean Bbq thing for years ...nice staff good food .good times . There are lots of places to try I. K town but if you want a sold consistent meal this place will do .
Atmosphere is good, barbecue is great, but budae jigae is too salty...
Amazing service.
A bit pricey but the food was really tasty. Table service, staff did the cooking and cutting for you. Served real quick. They use real charcoal not the electric gas. Many free side dishes. Two toilets for female on the first floor.
3 levels of seating for BBQ. Allows reservation via open table. Good quality meat and side dishes. We had the ribeye and pork belly with a side of the kimchi fried rice and egg souffles. Service is also better than others in K town.
Highly recommended this place. Food is good and service is excellent. Love the lady that served our table. We had beef and octopus hotpot.
A new Experience. Should have done the full barbeque
The hostess/waitress were friendly, the food was ok, but overall there was just nothing outstanding about this particular restaurant. For $20+ per entree I've expected some robust flavors but everything tasted a bit flat besides the pickled seaweeds.
Delicious: great food, fast service, good prices
Not an elite as this, but also consider it an authentic Korean BBQ? Anyways, the place looked authentic to me and tasted good too. We got the short rib and pork belly, which could never do wrong, and they didn't. Both the beef and the pork were very tender, went really well with light salt. However, consider the positions relatively small for the price. Like other BBQs, you get 5 traditional appetizers (always very tasty: always love the kimchi, black beans, and fishcakes) and a huge bowl of cabbage salad (eat some veggies too!). As a starter, we got the egg Soufflé with cheese and mushroom. Oh yes, egg+cheese+mushroom was truly a delightful combination. Just be mindful that it's burning hot. And as always, soju is a must for Korean BBQ. It's a very convenient location near H mart close to Penn. Definitely worth a try. Service on par with other Korean BBQ. food 5/5 value 3/5 ambiance NA service 4/5
Was in New York last week and was very lucky a friend and fellow trial lawyer recommended we go to Samwon. The food and service were outstanding. I especially liked the many small dishes that kept coming. We also ordered the Egg Soufflé to start and it was amazing. The many steak options were all perfect. This is a wonderful spot to go with a group so you can sample many of their dishes. I highly recommend giving it a try and look forward to going back soon!
Great Fun! Unique Korean BBQ holds It's own against Texas BBQ and North Carolina BBQ! Very popular restaurant in k-town so don't be surprised if you see visiting kpop stars or kdrama celebrities.
Food was great staff was excellent.
We got lucky that we happened across this place, saw the great reviews and decided to step in. It was a little busy but we got seating relatively quickly! Service was great and attentive and the food was delicious! KBBQ is always pricey and this one is no different but where they stand out is the quality of the food, this restaurant is one of the best KBBQ experiences I've had and I keep waiting to go back to NY to go there again!
Great service and delicious food
Came in here after remembering going to the one in Korea years ago. No garden here but it was still a nice throwback to old memories. Much more newer and modern here but still a good place to go. Nicely decorated and friendly. The lunch special was definitely worth it at a good price and tasted very good. Good place to come to for an authentic Korean meal.
Big portions and great specials. The first Samwon was started in Seoul in the 1970's, and after becoming famous there it came to NY recently for is second location. About 5 BBQ plates for the table and the Soju/beer pitcher (Bid Lite) special would seem to serve 6 people. They cook the meat on your table, btw.
Best korean bbq in the city. Very authentic but a bit pricey. Bipimbop is great and the meat is very fresh.
Great atmosphere. Awesome food. Super helpful staff. Real standout authentic Korean restaurant in midst of Korea town.
Great food and nice hosts
Absolutely the best meal I've had in my life.
To be honest, Korean food here is not the best in Korea town. But, I would say that they are very reasonably priced, and the portions that they serve for less than $10 is pretty amazing. Their morning specials include a variety of Korean soup dishes, and they serve 6 different side dishes, a bowl of rice, and a big portion of steamed eggs with them.
I went there early before even 11 am to get a chicken hot pot . I got a spot very close to the entrance even there was no one . I have noticed a terrible smell from the pot as soon as my soup was on my table. It appears to be the chef forgot to put something in my order. Isn’t this possible ? I was very curious. I wanted to order another dish, but they insisted to make it better??? I surely waisted my money on it. But I still paid 20% of tip . Never gonna be there again. P.S. addendum: The young lady , receptionist who speaks English should tell the customer who enter before business hour that like this “ Our restaurant is not open yet, please come after 11a.m. “ rather than too nice to take me in. She did her best today .
Best Korean food in the city. Where Koreans go for traditional meals. Christine is the best proprietor in the industry.
I love this Korean barbecue place though the line on a Saturday night is crazy. We have waited for 40 minutes but definitely worth the wait. The pork belly taste so good and the marinated beef short rib is so tender and delectable. The Bibimbap is a explosion of good umami flavors. On top of this you can also enjoy different Korean traditional flavors on side dishes like kimchi, marinated bamboo shoots, sea weed and a lot more.
My wife and I were looking for a Korean BBQ place & got into this restaurant by chance. We didn’t look it up or anything. We can’t be happier that this happened. The service is outstanding and the food is out of this world! It’s a bit pricey but well worth it. We tried the samwon galbi & the beef tongue and both were absolutely great
Surely a spot worth stopping over, the food is good and well prepared, the prices are affordable and it is constantly clean in here. Kudos.
A big fan of Korean BBQ here. The marinated galbi was delicious but other meat choices were average. The host and hostess were friendly. But our waitress was rude and very impatient, which made our dining experience a little unpleasant. The quality of table service really differentiates a restaurant from great ones. Since similar menus with better service are just steps away from here, I won't visit Samwon again unless I'm with some Korean friends. ;)
The staff are very professional. The quality of food is exceptional.
The food was good, the place is nice, but they burned our meet and had to have it brought cooked from the kitchen. It’s not a big deal but it takes away something from the experience.
Came in to Manhattan for a mid-morning meeting and stumbled upon this restaurant by chance -- wouldn't imagine I'd have Korean food for breakfast. The staff suggested some tofu broth which I duly ordered. To my surprise, the soup came with an omelette and six side dishes. It was all very tasty and fresh. I was stunned when I got the bill -- it was $9.74 (£7.50) before tip. Dunno how they do it! Could not resist and returned to the place three days later for dinner. Ordered a ground beef bibimbap -- very sizeable portion, this time with eight side dishes and soup. Service is friendly, quick and efficient. Each time was able to get a table straight away. By comparison, Dotori, our favourite Korean place in North London is consistently mobbed for lunch and dinner... I'm jealous!
Pretty cool that they use wood to cook your food, not common in the states, but it adds great flavor. Ventilation is pretty good. Also nice they separate the BBQ tables from the regular plated food section. The BBQ tables are upstairs which keeps the smoke upstairs. Food quality is pretty good and the staff are super friendly even during the busy times.
I look forward to going back again. This place has a great design.
Solid KBBQ / great 2nd tier option.
Best Korean BBQ in NYC. The beef, pork belly, and marinated chicken are all great! The pomegranate Sujoy is amazing too!
not bad~ we ordered pork and squid, tofu beef soup. But not so good as I expected. But still recommend.
Low-quality meat and vegetables. I feel disgusted after eating here. First and last
Very good quality Korean BBQ. The meat has been marinated a nice long while and the sides as well. The tables connect, making it easier to have a really large party attend or break it down quickly into groups. Since this is in the heart of k-town, you night want to try to get reservations, but when their really busy, reservations are off the table.
Had a fried fish lunch. Very good
Great nice and great customer service love the food
High quality food and I loved your attention and conciderations. The manager was great. Next time in NYC I will be there again.
The food is always well prepared and delightful, cashiers hands out great customer service. I love how neat it is and vibes. Will visit here again.
Came for lunch and ordered various dishes of the lunch menu. Food was pretty average with Manhattan K town prices. Staff were nice and attentive
Superb atmosphere and very affable service. The food was fresh and delicious. Will easily recommend this place to others. Reasonable rates and generous meals. Great job.
Only offer high quality photos ! Not recommended :)
First experience at a Korean BBQ place, but they set the bar high with their attentive staff and great service! The meat was amazing, the sides were light, yet more than sufficient. Great selection of food and drinks and the ambience was intimate even though it was super busy! Can’t wait to go back!
A bit disappointing. We don't eat meat, but love Korean food. The kimchi was on point and they have a good number of seafood and vegetarian options. My husband got the fried Pollock. Fish was not fresh. My dish (veggie bibimbop) was a little bland but otherwise well prepared. The mungbean pancake was undercooked. The fries were under-sauced. The service was also a little weird. The place has nice ambiance though, but it was busy.
This restaurant is hands down the BEST korean bbq in New York! The galbi was just to die for. Everything was just excellent from the food to customer service. Will definitely be back for sure!!!!
The atmosphere is just fine. You get the feeling that the people who eat here love KBBQ and this place provides great quality food and has solid service. The only reason for the four stars and not five is the pricing. It would also be great to have more veggies with the meat. Otherwise, I must say, yes, I will be back.
The killer thing about New Wonjo is that it's not only super tasty, with a huge menu, but they operate at peak efficiency constantly. Tables are bussed in seconds. They'll ask for your order within two minutes. Traditional Korean side dishes plunk down half a minute later. It's not for lingering downstairs, but you'll eat something fabulous lickety split, and you can chill over BBQ at one of their upstairs tables if you prefer. I like the bustle of the lower level.
Food was excellent and the service was very good. We'll be back for sure.
Excellent food the soup I had which was chicken and potatoes was spicy and delicious very courteous staff
We’ve ordered New Wonjo several times using delivery services. Previous experiences were just wonderful; they served tasty food at reasonable price. But this time, it’s really disappointing. I ordered samgyetang for lunch. The chicken was tender but did not have any taste of chicken and the broth was just like water, no salt, no chicken flavor, nothing! During the whole meal, I felt like I was playing with meat from some unknown creature swimming in hot water! As for my husband’s bulgogi bento, the meat was too tough.
Completely loved it. A bit pricey but worth every penny.
Great Korean food with Great Soju
I normally post pictures with my review, but the food was so amazing I forgot to stop eating and take them. The beef tongue was the highlight, but everything was top notch and delicious, the server service was also excellent and very responsive.
The food was DIVINE! The marinated beef was tender and all the side dishes were great! Just be sure to make a reservation if you can. This morning I tried to make a reservation for 6pm. I was encouraged NOT to make a reservation but to "walk in" and waited an hour to be seated. Meanwhile several other folks were seated before us because they had a reservation! The staff did compensate us with complementary dumplings. Also might be a tight squeeze for 4 people and there was barely room on the table to place all of the dishes. Overall will return just with my significant other and WITH a reservation!
Great food and fast service. Reservations are a must
Very good food and service as usual.
Amazing quality of meat and great service.
I was visiting NYC and ate here with some friends. The wait can be long so make sure you make reservation or go before the rush. When we were called, we still had to wait another 15 minutes to be seated. We ordered a combo and some a la carte meats (see pictures). They then brought out a table full of banchan (side dishes) which can really fill you up half way if you don't pace yourself. And the charcoals and the meats were brought out. The food were really good, including the side dishes and the meats. The charcoal definitely gave it the char flavor and made it extra crispy.
Very tasty pork belly dishes! Their specialty seems to be the pork belly. I ended up getting the 8 pork belly marinade combo which was $56.99 and it came with rice dishes and soup and of course side dishes. It says it feeds about 2-3 people but I would say it's more like 3-4 people. Had to take half of it to go.
Great for groups. Highly recommend the soju beer tower!
Everything is so good. Dumplings super crispy. Soup really great
The place is great the lady who cooked for us did a perfect job. We were new to this and loved it I am coming back for sure and super good to us. Overall great service, great place an amazing food.
Spent a good 50 dollars for an average meal. Decent vegetarian options available but wasn't really authentic. More than that, the decor could be way better. I'd skip it if you're looking for a fine dining place.
Very surprising, very good enjoyment of their food
Big and modern place with good trendy music. The egg souffle is a great small dish to accompany your main meal. The spicy galbi Tang could've been much spicier and more flavorful. Great staff though
Best restaurant experience I've had in a long time. My friend and I had stopped here yesterday after visiting the LINE store, carrying a bunch of bags with me and when I arrived I was worried I wouldn't be allowed in. The staff was extremely kind, one gentlemen even opened the door for us since our hands were full, and they put our items in a side room for us so we wouldn't be cramped at our table and take up space from other guests. The woman who showed us to our table asked us if we were BTS fans since we had BT21 items and asked us if we were attending their concert (both of which were a yes), and she was helpful with our menu questions. The food was extremely high quality and the staff was kind and efficient when bringing it to us and cooking it. As they brought the bill they gave us each a small cup of complimentary iced tea and as we were leaving every single member of the staff we passed thanked us for coming in. Never felt more warm and welcome while eating out before. Best first Korean BBQ experience I ever could have had!
Great (beef) bbq prepared in front of your eyes and taste buds, yummy Korean meals, decent cocktails... all this in Korean (fusion) like setting
Good place for quality Korean BBQ. Entered near eleven, it wasn't packed. Will surely make a return trip. This place has a great feel to it.
Great food, bit pricey...
The bulgogi bibimbop was solid.
Really good bbq, the food was of great quality, good ambience music not too loud and very good service!
The food was excellent! the chef came to our table and cook the food for us. I highly recommend this place. Please be prefer for long wait.
Great experience for dinner. I had the spicy pork bowl and kimchi pancake. The food came with a number of small appetizers like kimchi, fish cakes, radishes, and spicy squid. All the food was great. The restaurant is extremely busy, so the minute you are done eating, they want you to get out.
Mixed bag on this place. The upstairs BBQ is the section you'd want to be in as that's a fun atmosphere with each table getting their own ventilator above their individual grills to keep the place pretty grill smoke free. Service was good and the waitresses very friendly especially with young children. But it always comes down to the food and that's where I wished it were better. There's many restaurants to choose from with this type of Faire, but the biggest one lacking was actually the meat! It could be that we didn't pay extra for the premium meat, but then there was no real description of what made it premium. We got the regular short rib, but was more like eating tendons at times because it was so hard and grissly to bite through. When you managed to get a tender one it was delicious, but I'd say more than half was the hard kind. The steamed egg was alright. Could definitely use more flavor the Chap Jae was good. Bim Bim bop could use more egg. This place was alright, just more expensive than other places in this area with tastier food.
Super tasty
I tried their kimchi fried rice here. It was pretty decent. The side dishes were good although I wished there were more than 6. The service was great. I haven't tried their BBQ though.
From the greetings to the last bite this was amazing! My first Korean food and it was by far one of my best choices. My server took the time to pair the main course with a broth that was sooo good! She explained everything and was super nice. This is a place that I'm not only want to go back but to bring everyone else! A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
Came here on Superbowl Sunday and the place was still busy. The seafood pancake was good, even by my Korean relative's standards. My family of four shared the large premium beef combo. The meat had an excellent marble and even the non marinated cuts were packed with flavor. It came with a bowl of spicy tofu soup, which tasted great but wasn't spicy at all.
A really nice experience. Good food. But mostly a fun time.
Food was amazing, atmosphere equally amazing. I highly recommend this place. Definitely going back
Made reservations for the evening. Got in very quickly the staff was very polite. Food took less than 10 minutes to arrive. Food was cooked right in front of us. Great experience highly recommend it.
Some of the best food I've had in my life. An amazing eating experience
Food was okay - in my opinion there are better alternatives in the area. Found a piece of plastic in the octopus. YMMV.
Delicious and authentic KKQ experience! We ordered the marinated galbi and it tasted exactly the same as the restaurant in Seoul. The beef was perfectly charred and melted in our mouths. The restaurant is very very large, however I would still recommend making a reservation to secure a spot. Friendly staff and fast service.
This place has gotten insanely popular, and for good reason. If you want fantastic authentic Korean food without the crowds, come for breakfast.
Nice food and service
Hands down the best Korean BBQ place I've been to in NYC. Great setup, great food and service. Prices are somewhat on the upper end, but definitely worth it.
Really great food and the service was excellent!
Had lunch here in a regular weekday. Service was excellent, and the food (I had short ribs in traditional Korean marinade) was really good. The lunch deal is really a bargain for what you get.
Absolutely loved there food. There's a long wait so definitely make a reservation. I'll let my pictures do the talking but trust me, the food is delicious and on point.
You will not be disappointed in the menu and service. I had a cousin come into town and asked me to take him back here. The bill was average for the menu.
It was my first time trying korean food and I was highly impressed. From now on, anytime I go to New York, I will eat there.
Hands down best Korean BBQ in NYC. Favorite meat was the jumoolruk (marinated cubed short rib) and favorite side was the gyeran jjim (egg souffle-like dish) but everything we ordered was delicious. Service was fast, friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was lively but didn't impede normal conversation. Great overall experience.
Popular, so arrive early if you're hungry
The most awful Asian food I’ve ever ever ever had anywhere in the world. I’m shook that this place has +4 stars. Literally the worst
Great food, steamed egg is a must-get dish.
Great spot for tasty Korean BBQ. Stopped in on a Tuesday. I've had nothing but great experiences here and will keep coming back. The bill won't break you. Makes me feel like I in Nashville again.
The food is excellent! Fast service! Avoid the busy hours!
I never rate or write comments but today was such a bad experience I felt like I couldn't just go home without saying something. I have been here so many times and always spend 100+. The food was okay but the customer service was really bad.
Nice service and friendly but they have a bar and it doesn't open to after 5pm
The parents were in town and the parents love Korean food. I asked a friend of mine of any recommendations besides the usual place we always go and Samwon came up. Of course the requirements are that it must have Al jjigae and also BBQ for my mom who only wants kalbi and not too loud. On the plus is they also do reservations which was an instant yes in my book when it comes to Korean restaurants. I liked dim quite sophisticated decor. The tables are separated by partitions to give some privacy. The noise level was great for conversation and no k-pop music blaring. We really liked the banchan that came out when we went. I know it changes so yours might be different. We got an order of the Nokdu Jeon because we really like it when in Seoul. An order of several meat (Galbi, Bulgogi and vegetable for the BBQ and of course Al tang (it goes by different names) and some seafood bokeum. The meat etc is grilled/prepared by the waitress moving from one table to the next. The rest of the food came out pretty quickly. At one point I guess the meat was done...she cut it up and left...didn't say anything...so I guess that was the cue to eat? The food was very good. Good quality meats and vegetables. The mung bean pancake was crispy and Al Tang bubbling away in the stone bowl. Overall, it was an excellent meal. I just enjoyed the meal in a more peaceful environment without people jostling around and honestly the ability to make reservations without have to endless wait in line is a win in my book.
First time trying Korean BBQ, and it was definitely one of the best dining experiences I have had! Also the service was amazing and our waitress was super nice and helpful! Will definitely come back next time I'm in NYC ! Cheers from the 2 Danish guys!
Delicious courses at a very low price! Outstanding appetizers as well!
Good Korean bbq. Had the fish. I could’ve given it 4 stars but service is lacking.
Too busy. Food is very good for Korean BBQ bit there is always a wait.
I enjoy the side dishes and the steamed eggs :) Remind that you have to order at least two types of meat in order to do BBQ, a little pricy from my experience.
Never visited a Korean Barbecue before Shouldn't have worried. Staff were great and even though busy took time to let us know how we should prepare our food. We saw some great looking dishes coming out but didn't know what they were! we ordered the short rib and a New York steak. Wow! lots of little dishes of accompaniments, and a tutor telling us what to do.The result...... great food and service and I will be back! Thank you Samwon!
Although the old Wonjo was better in every way I continue to stop in for dinner.
The food is always fresh and yummy, cashiers hands out good service. I really like how neat it is and atmosphere. Keep up the good work.
The food is ok. I ate budaejigae several times here and the last time, my stomach hurt so much. Not sure why but it was really bad. My main complaint is the service is terrible. The last time I went, I could hear them saying rude things about customers and also cursing in Korean. I'm Korean-American and I understand it all. Not a good look.
Food was great, Service was really quick and the waiter/waitresses were very nice.
It was a total disappointment. They used to offer quite decent authentic Korean food. Now, all the dishes are so greasy and way too sweet and I dont think I ever want to go back to this restaurant again.
We came here craving bibimbop so that's what we all ordered, with a side of fried dumplings. 2/3 hot pots came at pretty low temps, and didn't leave a single grain of rice crunchy. The dumplings were just plain bad. Essentially no flavor inside. Would suggest avoiding those.
I think the Samwon Garden Korean BBQ were good! I have to say that I have had some that were better, but these were darn good Samwon Garden Korean BBQ to eat! I really loved the pickled radish, that was an excellent touch!
The waitress served our table was unprofessional. The whole exhaust pipe dropped off on our table when she grilled and clearly she didn’t know how to put it back. Water and soup spilled all over half the table, my friend’s phone was almost damaged by the water. She did replaced the raw meat but no other food that was also contaminated by the pipe, didn’t clean the table for us(at least grab some napkins would help but she didn’t). The manager there didn’t do anything, no apologies, no discount was offered and the waitress even asked for tips when we left the table. I used to love to eat here with friends when they came to New York to visit but this time is just a very unpleasant experience. The food is fairly good but the customer service is just terrible. Won’t come back anymore.
Great service and delicious food. I particularly loved the watercress salad.
Ordered their samgyetang and gamjatang for lunch. Both were tasty and plentiful. The sides were delicious too. Free refills. At the end, the cold sweet cinnamon drink was a nice touch to our meal but it was a bit too sweet.
great place for sushi
Great food with a hip atmosphere. Although you’re sitting in a large room filled with other groups, it somehow feels personal and private. KBBQ was on point, and the great thing is that the servers cook it for you. Besides that, the other dishes that we ordered (soondubu and naengmyeon) were delicious as well, although there was a strange hint of tomato in the soup of the soondubu, which was slightly odd considering other restaurants’ use of seafood stock. I would consider this to be one of the best- if not the best- KBBQ spot in NYC.
The waiters are very detail oriented
Great special on drinks after 9 (buy one get one free). The place is always packed with Koreans and non Koreans alike. The food is solid and service is good. Lots of places to eat in Ktown but this place is definitely one of the better ones.
Always packed, but the BBQ is really good.
BEST KOREAN IN NYC, maybe even the world! Seriously, the best I have had on the East Coast. You know it's good when the wait is over an hour long. And the owner is humble, sweet, and obviously talented. It's a cramped little place so it's a perfect NYC/Korean experience. Worth the wait so get in line!
Walked out of 'Ahgassi New Wonjo 원조' last Saturday evening because that place was so crowded and they asked us to wait 30 minute to an hour. We walked about a block to try this New Wonjo 원조place instead. Smaller place than Ahgassi but this place seemed more authentic Korean New Wonjo 원조in terms of the vibe, taste and service.
You guys can have more delicious food in Korea with just half and half price.
Excellent place well taken care of (customer)
Great food as always and awesome service! Can’t get enough of that red sauce! Highly recommended!!
We had a lot of food today such as assorted pork for 2, kimchii fried rice and etc. Great quality of meat and side dishes. Friendly stuffs also.
Decent Korean BBQ. The food doesn't really stand out from the other Korean restaurants that can be found in Koreatown. Service is great though. The wait staff is very friendly and at tentative.
My favourite place to get bibimbap
Didn't order BBQ, The soup is really good, pancake is fine. Seven different free appetizers. Nice place.
Never goes wrong with having Korean BBQ on a chill day. I was with my family with 2 kids, had dinner here with maximum satisfaction. The quality of the beef, its taste, and price were all proportional. I love the service, the huge place, cleanliness, and the variety of the food. Built with two storeys in K-town, this restaurant is really suitable for family with young children as well as friends in a large group. I know there are a lot of good korean restaurant, but this one is an option while visiting nyc.
Decent Korean BBQ
Good service, food was good, was a little overpriced in my opinion compared to other Korean BBQ restaurants in the area. I wouldn't go back.
The customer service is regularly swift, excellent ambience, welcoming employees. Will return here again when I arrive here.
One of my go-to spots to grab some food. convenient location, always clean, and awesome service. A must try!
The best Korean food,in NYC,hands down! JF.
Came here a few times after work, great food. Often crowded so be prepared.
Loved the Korean bbq! will be back.
This is one of the BEST Korean bbq place in K-town. Samgyupsal is very juicy as well as the Galbee.
The best Korean BBQ restaurant. Unlike most Korean BBQ restaurants they use charcoal to cook instead of gas or electric.
We have two ppl ordered three dishes for dinner. Portion is moderate and we have leftover to take out. Galbi Jjim (招牌炖牛排骨煲, Red wine soy sauce braised short ribs) is impressive. Well balanced sweet taste and savory taste deeply marinated into every piece of meat. The meat is well cooked but a bit fatty. Easily to get fully after a few bites. Bibimbap (石锅拌饭, Hot stone pot rice with beef) is average. The sauce is more spicy than other restaurants (didn’t expect it is spicy at all although it’s red). I should go for the tofu option rather than beef since we have ordered the braised short ribs..too much meat Gyeran Jjim (鸡蛋羹, Egg soufflé) no extra topping. It’s their signature dish so okay to try. Average but didn’t over expectation. Some pieces got over-cooked.
I love this kbbq place. This is probably the best one in nyc or at least ktown itself. Their meat quality is great and the staffs are nice and friendly. If not korean bbq, i often come here for their kalbi that is marinated in red wine. It's honestly the go to dish for me - super juicy, tender and deliciously marinated.
amazing food, good service
Great experience here! Love the food and the ambience :) highly recommended
Best KBBQ in K-town! We stop here almost every time we go to NYC.
worst experience ever! The fish roe soup is NOT fully cooked and the bbq smoke is horrible. I didn’t order bbq on my desk but already smell like a walking bbq after just sitting here.
Delicious but pricey
Good Korean food. Service was fast.
Very good food. Expensive though and smaller portions for the price.
Love this place. I'm not a big meat eater so I never go up to the barbecue, but that obviously the place to be for meat eaters. The regular restaurant is just plain old good Korean food, I love the Korean rice wine, and love the serving bowl even more.
Very very good food here. Bring a group or fly solo.
Service is good and love the food!
Good service and good food but usually have to wait in line a while.
The oldest kbbq chain from Korea did not disappoint
Hands down best k-bbq in manhatthan!
Great Korean BBQ! Delicious bon chon and a fun experience. Very loud and popular and the only place that still does the traditional hot coals.
This place was awesome! Can't wait to go back again soon
The meat here tastes so good!
Amazing Korea BBQ. They do the cooking for you. Great pours on wine as well! Pretty expensive though
Where r we? In nyc or Korea? Such good food. Try to go with a Korean person (from the south of course) and they will know what to order. I usually get the rib eye and short rib - both beef. If u go with more people then try more stuff. Head to karaoke bar after dinner. So much fun.
Came for dinner on a Saturday night and it was bustling. Food was delicious, and came quickly (although as typical they won't allow seating until everyone in the party is present). My bibimbap made me happy.
Great! Love korean bbq
Food and service were both good. Prices seemed a little high, but not to extreme. I would not hesitate to visit again.
the food was great for my first time eating korean food
The food is constantly fresh and flavorful, cashiers gives fantastic customer service. I loved how neat it is and character. Worth a try.
Best Korean food in the town.Very tasty food.I'll definitely come back to this place.
Open late night, great authentic Korean food. Best ribeye meat and good service. Good for groups of friends and family. Fried rice and soon duboo soups are great.
Our first time at New Wonjo. A bit of wait, but worth it. Good food and good service.
Great food and service , the male washroom needs some attention and renovation/repair.
My mom told me this place has been in NYC before she came to USA. She's been here since 1980 so 40 years of servicing Korean community. Of course they have move the locations. Still enjoying their Korean-Chinese dishes. Jjaajngmyun is a soul food for Korean. Keep it up. Thanks,
Decent food, quick service as well as friendly workers.
Not bad/ service could improve/ we waited too long to eat /even for them to serve appetizers.
Food was great! Was quite busy so pur server would disappear sometimes, but all in all a great experience and the food was top notch
Amazing, great service. Make a reservation to get a table quickly.
Qs are long but worth the wait. Like the set menus which are value for monies. Esp for my combi of kimchew stew and meat... and the side dishes were pretty good too! The latter always a sign of how good the restuarant will be... serious ... after staying in Korea for 6 years...
4 stars and not 5 because of little nuances with the host and seating arrangements, plus the place is super packed for such a small venue, so moving around means squeezing... Something the city people are use to. But OMG, the food is delicious. I can see why it is one of the highest rated restaurants in New York City. I was not disappointed with the 'Meat Mania' platter that served 3 of us. My 4
Food presentation was good but in terms of taste, it wasn't good. Most of all, the lady taking the order was very arrogant once I told her that wrong order is served. I can say that everybody's taste buds are different and we had some miscommunication due to language barrier but never going there again.
The soft tofu soup was delicious! And the purple rice was tasty. Side were top notch. In the tenderloin so the surrounding area is rough.
Excellent Food and Service!
Amazing restaurant, truly recommend it. Wonderful service, honest service, would definitely return.
Great Korean BBQ! Expensive, but worth it!
I visited this restaurant on multiple occasions: lunch, dinner, late night and so on. or weekday lunch, they have lunch specials and usually have seats around. For dinner, they only serve BBQ upstairs so the wait can be long depending on what you want to get. The service is okay. Sometimes I feel like they are rushing us a bit. . They serve typical variety of traditional Korean dishes. Most are good , but my favorite ones are gamjatang and budaejigae. . Gamjatang is a pork bone stew with potatoes and dried radish green. The portions are really big and comes with lots of bones. I also liked their Budaejigae but sometimes i feel like the fire underneath stays on for too long and makes the soup really hot.
The place offers a great variety of fresh food. I liked eating here. Employees are always very kind, rates are fair and the spot is always well organised.
I had the squid and pork belly lunch special. First off, the sides were great. There was a cauliflower and apple mix, marinated zucchini, and lightly fried tofu. The soup and salad were both delicious. I really enjoyed the spices in the main dish, and the shiitake mushrooms in it were delightful. My only complaint is the meat itself (both pork and squid) was overcooked and had a hard plastic texture. The lunch service was amazing, fast and courteous. Overall I’d give it a 4.5, but rating it 5 because I think the average rating should be higher.
Horrible service and they dropped my food right in front of me.
Food and experience was ok. The manager got mad because I said the spicy tofu dish did not taste good
Definitely need to come back to try the BBQ. Foods were in smaller proportion. The seafood pancake barely had seafood and the leeks where in gigantic pieces. Would not come during the weekend. Good lunch deals on weekdays!!! The bathroom was small and clean.
24/7 Korean restaurant in Ktown, with surprisingly cheap breakfast options (~$8-9 as their breakfast specials)! Context: Came in with a friend on Saturday ~10am, and around half the restaurant was full. Atmosphere: Relatively large space for NY, though they offer long benches across 2 walls, and the tables seem a bit close to each other. There isn't much room between you and the next person on the same bench. Service was relatively quick (all our food came out within 20-25 minutes). Food: Started off with small cold dishes, which offered a good amount of variety (kimchi, seaweed, spicy cucumber). I ordered the Kimchi Jjigae - expect this to be spicy, ant to predominately have kimchi (I was a bit disappointed with the small amount of pork included). I also was not expecting the glass noodles within the soup. But overall, a filling and affordable meal - in total, the cost was ~$12, including tip. Overall: 4 / 5 one of the more affordable places I've been do in NYC for breakfast, and in Koreatown too! Would definitely come back for quick, affordable meal, though I wish portion sizes were a bit larger.
Made a reservation and was seated right away. Very friendly staffs and great food. Will definitely return to try more food.
Budae Jigae - is good Ddubaki bulgogi - soup in hot bowl with, Slices bulgolgi rib eye, rice cake and glass noodles. Good portion of meat but the flavor was way too sweet, would not get this particular dish again. Good service
Good spicy beef stew. Good soju. Open 24 hours. What's not to like?
Got pushed back twice in the already long line by apparent friends of the staff, which was a little annoying, but they did take our order while we were waiting to be seated so the meat got to our table right away. The meat was cooked for us at the table, which took some fun out of the experience. In any case, the food great and the banchan were plentiful, and at a good price.
I've seen this place on google, and decided to try it out. It was delicious! The food was so good, especially the brisket and Mac n cheese. Im so pleased, will definitely come back and recommend this spot to friends
Got recommended from friend, this Korean restaurant is a nice break from western food. Located in Korean town, this place has a traditional taste with moderate price. The menu variety is good. A bit crowded during dinner time but waiting time is acceptable.
I remember this restaurant used to be much better. But on my last visit, the mul neng myun was bad and didn’t taste right and the banchan was below average. Also, the was service was very slow and inconsistent. I would go to Samwon Garden instead.
This place is my first choice site. Of all restaurants I know I love it most. I always suggests to my friends to go to this restaurant. when I feel like having a good supper, this place comes immediately to my head. superb and diverse food and a rich cuisine.generous staff, and nice mood. Also important, the expence is reasonable. I suggest this place with no doubt.
Awful experience. Staff way too comfortable, ignored us for most of our time there, not willing to help as we had to “ask our server” but she was nowhere to be found. Food overcooked and extremely dry, not a single check back, overpriced. At the end after we paid we decided not to tip because of our experience and just then our server came back demanding a tip. Avoid if possible, way too many good places around.
Great food. Open late! Love this place
It’s our go to place when we want to have a nice lunch during the week. Food is always on point. They always have a great selection of Bon Chon too. The short rib pumpkin casserole is money! Their soups are great. Gam Ja Tang (Pork Neck Bone soup) is hearty as well as their Galbi Tang (Short rib soup)
This place is definitely extremely busy. We went there before “rush hour”. The restaurant has 2 levels. First floor has the typical seating and serves different dishes. 2nd floor is BBQ only. We chose to go BBQ. You get the hot coals on your table and the meat is freshly cooked for you, in-front of you, by them! Their appetizers are delicious. We went with beef, chicken and salmon. Portions are a lot! It only was 2 of us but definitely this place is great for group of 4. Bog portions delicious food. Service is very good, fast and professional. Would definitely go back!
Loved New Wonjo! My dish was amazing and everything else I saw looked great as well. Service was nice, atmosphere was nice and location was nice. Would definitely return. Well done!
very busy place! Food was very good but I would say there are too many small plate sides which makes for placing and navigating items on the table a challenge.
Good Korean food.
This place is like a 3.5 star overall. The food is good Their customer service is very very good. They are a bit pricey but what can you say it's Manhattan Korean BBQ.
Came with my friends and enjoyed the ambience, the bustle, and the food. Service was amazing
Good korean restaurant.
Great food and great service
So many gems you find just walking around the city. All this for lunch at a very reasonable price. And free wifi! I prefer my kimchee more fresh and crunchy but this is traditional and tasty. Best part was the hot seaweed broth to start off the meal.
So good! Well taken care off. Fancy Korean BBQ
Great food, service very good and good price point. It's a solid place to take the family.
Excellent spot to have some food when in a hurry. The customer service is fast, pricing is affordable, fantastic mood. Will come visit again
I love this place. Recommended it! Food is delicious!
Worth the visit for a good Korean BBQ experience. The beef is good and the side dishes are the standard ones you'd expect. The service is attentive while not overwhelming or even trying to push you out after dinner.
Overpriced. Cramped. You are elbow to elbow with other customers. Food is what you expect. Not worth the let down of the experience.
Great place for authentic K-BBQ! Nice cool environment! Highly recommended.
fun place, worth the wait.
The dukkboki was heavenly
Ordered via Postmates. One of the best, most authentic Korean spots. Food was delicious and they’re banchan was amazing!!!
Hands down - my favorite Korean restaurant in the city.
Best Korean food And good service.
Authentic. Banjan OK, quick service, good food
Busy place but the wait on a Saturday evening wasn't too bad. The restaurant has 2 sections... downstairs has regular seating and serves non BBQ dishes. Upstairs is where you get to experience BBQ menu. They use hot coals to cook your food at the table The food was amazing!!!! I can't wait to go back on my next visit to New York.
Beat food ever. Favorite person there is Miyoung. She’s is very sweet. She will help you and show you how to find ways to eat your food if you don’t know how to eat (lol). She would also cook the food for you so make sure to tip her well!!!! Anyhow everything was good.
Horrible, made us humiliated. Reception rolled her eyes and cursed us in Korean. We just waited for table and looked at menu and decided to leave even before we sit on table. Do not expect any decency here.
One of the worst establishments. Service has gone downhill and same with the food. Once they feel like they don’t need to work hard it has gone down. Go somewhere else.
Reliable KTown dining option after midnight. Tasty stews, BBQ and side dishes. Love their white kimchi
Love this place! The waiter is very friendly and the service is fast. They are very patient and cooks and serves the meat to us because we told them it isnour first time eating at a kbbq place.
I ate here yesterday and they refused to accept my card because it was under $20. They only accepted cash. I asked her was it their restaurant policy, and she said she didnt know. I called the next day and They switch the script on me. They said they did, but the lady who took my card, refused it. Prior to this, service was not as I expected it to be. They barely check on us, and when they did, I asked for more water, and they never came. I had to ask one of the bus boy for a refill (after 15 minutes of waiting). I tried to be patient even though upstairs was not busy. I did not want to be one of those customers to be complaining, but this was unacceptable.
Incredible main menu, ordered Gamja tang and Samgye tang! Side dishes aren't that good, could assume that they rushed to make them.
Surely a place worth stopping by, the food is awesome and well prepared, the prices are affordable and it is constantly well organized there. Keep it up.
One of the best Korean in Korea town in NYC
Love the food here! It comes out quickly and is always cooked to perfection! It's open surprising late! Only downer is they don't have dessert. But that won't stop me from coming back!
Truly a great experience. Went in on Christmas day. They were vey busy we waited 30min and I don't regret it. The food was excellent. The service and atmosphere was very nice. Overall a great time.
Very good Korean barbecue! I really recommend. Service was nice and efficient too. No smelly clothes after leaving.
Best Korean BBQ in town! Super tasty, staff very friendly
Meat selection could be better, but everything was fresh
I honestly like their food and service, awesome location next to my apartment. The staff members are always super friendly. Will visit here again.
Favorite K BBQ place in NYC! Love their side dishes
Great dinning experience, good service and great tables. Certainly more expensive but well worth the extra!!!!
Food simply excellent
I tried this place for the first time. I didn't know what to order or what to expect. The food was delicious and refreshingly new to me. I had a combination of seasoned and unseasoned meat with lots of sides. Go early or expect a line It was empty when we got there at 530 but packed by the time we left.
Having hot coal to sear your own meats is the key to seal in the favor, keep the meat juicy and tender. Plenty of extras offer as side dishes. Be prepared to come out of the restaurant smelling from a barbecue. Long wait so get there early.
Possibly my fave restaurant in the World! Have the Galbe (BBQ beef short ribs) upstairs!!!! Pricey but worth every bit!
Food is not that tasty. If you're looking for good korean food, don't count on it.
Me and my friends had a great time there.
This restaurant is amazing and roomy, the menu was delicious and the rates were very fair. quickly, effective service and very welcoming staff. I highly recommend this place.
Never disappointed when I come here. It can be quite busy and easier for a table of two than over four. The portions are enormous so be aware of that and order appropriately. I’ve tried things from all over the menu including bibimbop and BBQ and have liked basically everything.
