4.5 stars! My picture can’t justify the food quality here. We are a party of 8 to celebrate the birthday of me and a friend. The long communal table set all the way back fitted us perfectly. The interior decor is simple and minimalism, mixed of walnut color and white. The service was great, even though the waiter was confused with who ordered what from time to time. Every single dish was well explained with the best way to eat them. All the dishes were elegantly presented and very flavorful with great texture. My favorites are the oxtail, uni soup, king crab and lotus root salad. The portion is kinda of on the smaller side; some of the appetizers are even more delicate, however, it will a perfect meal if you don’t want to be overstuffed:)

Tasty but very expensive for the tiny portions. Not that much better than a decent K-town restaurant, if at all, and Korean food is meant to be a feast...

Stingy portions. Perfect if you are on a diet. I would rather pay double to go to jungsik

Had an amazing time at Hwaban. Cozy ambiance and perfect spot for a date. Food was absolutely perfect from starters to deserts. Highlight of the night was the King Crab - Nothing like it.

Suk Choi

Pretentious yet expensive place. I wondered why the fish soup I had contained only a small spoonful of fish meat.

Came here on our usual Wednesday date night and we were craving kimchi jjigae. We found hwaban close to where we were and decided to give it a try. The inside looked really nice and upscale. My wife liked how you could see the kitchen from our seats. The menu was inside a cute envelope pictured, but we knew exactly what we wanted. The stew was different than what we were used to but in a great way. We Marked this as a must come back and try other items on the menu.

I’m generally skeptical of Korean restaurant outside of Ktown but I was pleasantly surprised. Although the price is steeper than your usual Korean affair, the dishes were beautiful and authentically delicious. The three course pre-fix does fill you up. The cured shrimp was small but amazing and the pork belly was out of this world! Not the biggest fan of the pine nut sou, and the chicken jjim was bit too salty for my taste.

This place has everything you can ask for a Korean restaurant. Ambiance, food, service, even their sound quality is amazing!!! My wife and I ordered king crab and dubu as appetizers, uni and chicken followed by sea bass, pork belly. Every dish had full of flavors and their portion was very good for $55 course.

Enjoyed the experience and liked the oxtail soup. But when looking back at the pictures, I found the food didn't seem to be so memorable :-/ the floral cake was a highlight

Beautiful space and food with great flavor. Don’t miss the King Crab (worth the $5 supplement for sure) and the Braised Chicken. Small but good selection of wines by the glass and some good bottles as well. I would probably skip the $15 buttercream cake for dessert next time though as it was all cold buttercream frosting and not very much actual cake. My only real complaint though and the only thing holding it back from 5-star status is that it’s expensive for what you get; the portions are small and the wines are all a little more expensive than they probably should (or at least could) be. Overall though it was a lovely dining experience with delicious food and wine and I would go back for sure, especially with a larger party to help share the cost of the wine ; )

Hands down the best Korean cuisine in East coast. I lived in Korea long enough to explore finest Korean cuisines, and this spot is one of the top ten(world-wide) and the only one under 100$. (I think I go this spot at least 3 times a month) The place serves three course menu($55) and their flatwares are made in Korea with their unique, traditional alloy called "yu-ghi". Also all the desserts are made in house(I believe an exception of one type of cake). They also have a great Sake list, including my favorite snow aged and one of highly regarded "Wing of Japan". Much recommended. See, I love to complain but couldnt really find one at Hwaban. It is also recommended to book over phone call as they usually have spare tables. If u don't drink the bill would be somewhere around 25-30$ for lunch and 55$ for dinner. But as they have variety of wine and sake, so it could be 150$ and up for dinner.

Why is the Hwaban Table (Le Prix Fixe) not ready? The waiter told us to order two items from the appetizers, and another two from the entrées, because the Hwaban Table was not available. The plates were large enough that we didn't have to order so much food. The waiter deceived me. As a Korean, I am very ashamed that the waiters are such lowlives. Manager is a lowlife too for making excuses as to why the Hwaban Table was not ready. Remove it from the menu and from the website menu, if it is not ready. Thank you. I don't know if this restaurant is trying to be a cheap restaurant or a high-end restaurant. Their prices are too cheap and their prix fixe menu wasn't ready. The waiters are terrible. They do not use proper Korean. May be it's because they are too Americanized, and have forgotten their Korean manners. I asked two different waiters for an additional bowl of rice. I never received it. Hwaban lacks Korean manners. Hostess at the door didn't bow, nor did the manger nor the hostess bow when we left the restaurant. RUDE. My friend told me that this was the funniest Korean restaurant he has been to. We ordered the Zucchini, Kimchi Stew, Oxtail Stew, Chicken, Tofu, Albacore, Roe Soup, etc. Presentation was nice, but the quality of the ingredients were not good. Chicken was just some drumsticks. Hahaha. Kimchi Stew was disgusting. The lighting is terrible. They are using halogen lighting. The tables are quartz and it reminds me of eating on the bathroom vanity. There is too much exposure from the street. An ambulance passed by and the entire dining room lit up red. There needs to be something to separate the front from the dining area. No table clothes.

I don't normally write a review, but felt need to write one on this occassion. My family of three went to Hwaban to eat the dinner. Food portions were so small. Extra Kimchi is like $7.50. Entree comes out look alike appetizers portion. Food was also extremely salty especially sea weed soup. So, make the long story short, after spending $125, we had to stop by Potbelly to eat a sandwich dinner to fill our empty stomach.

Perfect place for GNO. Modern vibe. Portions are on the smaller side (more like tapas).

Elegant, modern Korean cusine. Not a large space but nice interior and tableware.

This place seems like it’s still testing out the menu. Some dishes are a bit bland, some have flavors not blended well. Wish the quality is more stable.
