In a roll-call of New York’s most beloved restaurants of the last couple of decades, Gramercy Tavern would be high on many people’s list. It is one of those places that manage the rare trick of being so confident in its abilities that it can be all things to all people. You’ll probably leave happy whether you’ve come on a date or are here to impress the in-laws; whether you’re closing a deal or simply lubricating the thought processes behind a deal. The “Tavern” side is the prized spot for lunch, especially if there are only two of you and you can sit at the bar—it doesn’t take bookings so get here early and join in the grown-up “I’m not really queuing, I’m just standing here” queue outside. The “Dining Room” is for those who like a little more pomp with their pappardelle, and really comes into its own in the evening. The cooking is the perfect match for the warm and woody surroundings: this is creative American food sure of its footing and unthreatening in its vocabulary. The main component, be it the sea bass or pork loin, is allowed to shine and there is a refreshing lack of over-elaboration on the plate that demonstrates the confidence and dexterity of this kitchen.

Excellent meal. Have been here twice on special occasions. The food is delicious, the ambiance is really enjoyable, and the service is top notch. Both times; the menu was different; and the food was incredible. Wine menu is very nice; although expensive. Would highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for somewhere special for an occasion; or if you are just in the mood for a fine dining experience.

Excellent food, outstanding service, a culinary experience to rival any other. Chef Michael Anthony and his staff do a wonderful job. It costs a pretty penny and it is worth every cent. Really low-key restaurant, given how high-end it is. Everyone is friendly, there are fresh flower arrangements everywhere throughout, tasteful decor, classy jazz music playing on the sound system. The food is accessible but top-notch, for reasonable prices (still $$$$). We went for lunch, got three courses each, and we're out the door for $137. Gratuity is built into the prices, so don't tip! I had an important call that was scheduled at the last minute in the middle of our lunch service, and the staff went out of their way to set me up in a private dining room for that call, then brought our dessert after I was done. Everything about our experience here was perfect.

When it comes to fine dining, Gramercy Tavern sets the standard for class, flavors, and service. It's become somewhat hackneyed to read about a new restaurant opening where the chef is touted as a "Gramercy Tavern alum" but having finally dined here I understand why it's a badge of honor. I had the great pleasure of being treated to a meal here for a job promotion by a very dear friend. To me, it's a special occasion kind of restaurant, but I could see it being a regular spot for those dealt a fancier lot in life. The menu changes frequently (perhaps weekly?) but I enjoyed a halibut entree that came in a savory almost soup-like base. It was topped with watercress and fiddlehead ferns. This dish was well made, but less exciting than the side of polenta my friend ordered. I found the polenta outstanding. It tasted like it was whipped in a cream. It was made with a savory chili oil that gave it a nice kick that built over time. I think spice makes everything taste better. Maybe my halibut could've used some spice. We paired our entrees with some very well made cocktails and followed it with a brownie dessert highly recommended by our server. While it wasn't the most photogenic dessert, the warm brownie paired with freshly made whipped cream and sliced almonds was a most satisfying sweet end to our meal. Sometimes I forget that not all food is made to post about on the internet.

Not pretentious despite the outstanding reviews. Services was friendly and warm. Interesting menu choices without being unreadable. Prices may seem high, but there is no tipping so keep that in mind. Consistent quality. Portions are sized expecting guests to have 2-3 courses.

Gramercy Tavern is one of the finest restaurants I have been to. Yes it is expensive. $134.00 for a fixed price three course meal and $189.00 for a five course meal. Both include the tip. No tipping means you get excellent service and help choosing your courses from a wide variety creative and good tasting dishes. Our waitress, Toni, has 14 years experience at Gramercy and complete command of the menu. She and the rest of the staff were superb. Clearly each course was precisely assembled from fresh ingredients. Aventuresome Yum!

Great food & wine.. loved the place and the food.. We went there Sunday for dinner after walking around all day so arrived casual in trainers.. no problem whatsoever.. The restaurant was filled with forsythia which had just opened, it was absolutely glorious! The restaurant has the feel of a private club, sophisticated and comfortable. We sat in the dining room with the set menu. There were a number of good choices but the chicken was absolutely outstanding, possibly the best I have ever had! Lovely evening.

Overall fantastic experience. My fiance and I went for dinner to celebrate the one year countdown to our wedding, and they made us feel so special from the moment we sat down. Every single person that came by the table (to clear plates, fill water, etc) was aware of our occasion and acknowledged it sincerely. Our server Ayisha was WONDERFUL. She was extremely knowledgable and took the time to explain specific dishes in elaborate detail to help us decide what to order. Every course was fantastic from the complimentary biscuits with goat cheese butter (oh. my. god.) all the way through to dessert. Highly highly recommend, especially for a special occasion. The bread is amazing ... I would pay for it. The Flatbread was burnt and the burger was not prepared to my instructions. I'd prefer a restaurant say we only cook our food one way (e.g. state we cook steak at medium rare only, rather than ask you how you want it prepared, have you wait a long time, then give you medium rare even though you asked for a medium cook. Then they say oh they'll take it back. Who wants to have the same burger "reheated" after you prepped it with your condiments etc and took a good sized bite out of it... Sigh, restaurants gotta do better.

I had lunch at the Tavern today, seat at the bar the bartender super nice and pleasant the menu has no salsa options,well a tomatoes option available, not a salad for me I wasn’t in the mood of meat then I got stocked with a Mediterranean grains , ame nice with some cooked vegetables sadly tasteless, the bartender made the effort to give a gluten free bread which was delicious. I left disappointed but I may admit that the place is beautiful and service is just superb...food not up the the standards ( or the price)

I had a phenomenal experience at the Tavern. The ambience, AMAZING. Went here for an anniversary dinner and was not disappointed. They gave us complimentary glasses of champagne to celebrate. The pre fixe menu is very solid, and tip is included in the cost of the meal. Appetizers were filling, we each had a fish dish for our mains that was phenomenal, and they provided another complementary cake that said Happy Anniversary on it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

I have always wanted to come to Gramercy Tavern, and I didn’t do it before. Food was absolutely delicious course by course of the Seasonal Tasting Menu. I personally found the smoked trout and the beef to be sublime. Wine pairing was the right decision as the selection was 100% accurate and enhanced the flavors in every dish. Service was absolutely flawless and welcoming. Worth visiting as many times as you would like to go for a impeccable culinary experience.

This is one of those classy places with individual, machine washable hand towels in the bathroom and servers who will neatly fold your napkins for you when you leave the table momentarily. My friends and I, in our t-shirts and jeans, didn't fit the bill for their usual clientele, but everybody we encountered was pleasant nonetheless. As a bonus, tip is included in the prices listed on the menu!You start the meal with complimentary (focaccia?) bread. I loved this bread. It was cheesy, a bit crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside.

It was really lovely to have chef customised the menu for my restricted diet due to allergies. Fine dining with a twist and having Guest Chef Nina around to be fun with the menu was interesting. I was told by the staff that the whole floral arrangements and Deco changes on monthly and festive basis. Nice touch.

From the moment I entered, i was excited to be here. I sat near the window in a lounge chair dining at a table garnished with a personal garden of small blooms and rosemary. Can't have cheese for the week so Kevin made sure I had the salted wheat biscuit, YUM! I had a perfectly-salted fish bite on a wafer to begin. Water was served in branded glass bottles and left (and refilled) at the table upon request. I enjoyed the char salad, light, bright & delish, similar in appearance and mouth feel to salmon. I enjoyed my beet salad the most. It was a feast for the eyes of magenta and grassy greens with a touch of mint to punch up the flavor bouquet. The duck Andouille sausage with grits & peaches, expected but unexpected. Kevin shared that the establishment uses locally-sourced food, shopping at the farmer's market several blocks away, and their own butchery team (I believe). I completed the experience with the Lavender custard with berries (very creme brûlée, which, is my FAVE non-chocolate dessert). In short, the flavor-texture combo made my mouth happy. Treat yourself if you're in the area!

One of the restaurant on my list while visiting NYC is Gramercy Tavern, and finally me and my family had a chance to experience the delicacy of the food here. As soon as I arrived in the restaurant, I felt a warm welcome from all the staffs. The tavern itself was cozy and comfortable, well decorated, and such a proper dining place. I was here with 2 kids, and unbelievably this restaurant is a kid friendly. They both and we were all very satisfied with the taste, service, and also the no-tipping fixed price system. Really great staff, service and food. We had ordered the fluke, the shrimp, the sea bass, and the steak tartare. (really good) Their angel bread was delicious and comes with a goat cheese spread. I could have eaten that as the meal itself, it was probably my favorite thing about the entire dinn On a side note for those who drive by car to get here: when we had arrived we had asked the Gramercy staff where we could park. They had said that there was an "icon" parking and if they stamp the receipt we'd get a discount.

We celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary here, after making an online reservation, through Open Table and the restaurant website.. On either side of us, were other couples celebrating anniversaries and new jobs. The service was impeccable and the food great. The 3 course meal was just right, with multiple choices for each course. We had the shrimp and tagliatelle (a special that night) starters and pork and lamb mains. We received a congratulatory dessert glass of champagne and a small tasty cake.

Gramercy Tavern sounds like an old-fashioned beer hall, maybe one with a jar of pickled eggs on the bar. But it is in fact a top-drawer outpost of restauranteur Danny Myers, and its delights are many. A large space that is subtly divided, the Gramercy is handsome and comfortable in classic ways mixed with well-chosen innovations such as unexpected color schemes and ceiling edgings. I liked sitting in the place, even before the celebrated cuisine began arriving. The service was flawless and the no-tipping practice at Gramercy added to the feeling of hospitality. LOO REVIEW: An upmarket men’s room whose stalls shelter users with fully framed wood doors and polished locks that audibly and reassuringly snap closed. Sinks and flooring are marble. No tips jar, naturally. Hand towels are cloth and rolled and would make better souvenirs, if embossed.

Formerly a gem. When visiting NYC, have frequently visited Gramercy with my spouse, friends and clients, with visits dating back at least twenty years. So even though our last visit was not the best experience, I thought I'd take the my kids there on their first visit to NYC. So do the ridiculous wait to make a reservation one month in advance, call exactly when the restaurant opens, get put on hold for five minutes ... and then told there is no availability for our date. The woman answering the phone was downright rude. I was going to go one star, but decided to respect when this place used to be a great dining destination.

We had lunch at Gaby Brasserie before going to a matinee show. As much as we enjoyed the show, the Gaby Brasserie was the highlight of the day! Everything was cooked to perfection and delicious. Our waiter was efficient, gracious, and his attention to everything was exceptional. New York has a million restaurants, and we have been to many of them. However, the Brasserie ranks right up there with the best we have been to, and we would highly recommend it.

Memorable, but not in a good way. It is a shame that what could have been an almost perfect dinner ended up being almost a disaster. The good: The food selection. You can tell there is a master mind behind the menu. The bad: The wine pairing and an overacting hostess. Both unnecessarily sweet. The ugly: For a $500 dinner you may not expect perfection, but attention to detail is a must. And that was not the case with my Ricotta Ravioli stuffed with a plastic piece as a big as a spoon. They took it to the kitchen, came back and explained that they found it was part of the lid of the ricotta container, and that a discount will be applied at the end of the night to compensate the choking hazard. Did I mention attention to detail? They forgot about the discount, of course.

This spot and this sustenance was the right way for us to do it, in an easygoing air where absolutely everything was altogether considered and carefully considered to empower us to value one another and our sustenance reliably, yet with some dimension of security (what number of best in class restaurants foresee you, rather, to come love at their alter, up close with others. I have a totally low flexibility for tendency ripped off in any way. It is really astonishing that we paid the stunning check at Gramercy Tavern with appreciation.

Really nice and romantic restaurant, nicely decorated, fresh flowers and low music. Friendly hostess and staff, wide selection of wines and craft beer. Was hoping for the tasting menu but they told us only served before 2pm. Still the food was delicious, well done and beautifully presented, as well as the deserts. Kind of wishing to leave a good tip but they have a hospitality included policy. Bathroom were spotless, free WiFi and the tavern was gorgeous. Will definitely return on my next trip to NY to try the tasting menu.

All I wanted was a drink and a nice dinner after a long day. Your bar staff completely ignored me the entire time I was there. When I went to sit down at the bar, they told me another couple had been waiting longer, even though I was the only name on the wait list. Luckily for you, I'm a visitor from out of town, so the only person I can tell not to visit lives around the block. I would not recommend anyone visit, if they prefer service or even acknowledgment from the bar staff. Your server, Benjamin was kind to check on me. Maybe dinner with a group at a table would receive better service. But do not go there if you are by yourself or want to sit at the bar. Thanks for the drink, but it was too little too late to keep me for dinner. I'm extremely disappointed and upset.

Overpriced and really not very good. Our kid wanted the burger they show on the menu but they wouldn’t serve it to him unless we were sitting in the bar (which was 10 feet away). Ridiculous. Was not impressed with the food we paid over $600 for.

This is probably my favorite restaurant in NYC and that's saying a lot. They have amazing cocktails and a tavern area which is first come first serve. Here they serve a la carte options like the famous burger and a rotating seasonal menu. They also have a formal Michelin starred dining room that has a Prix fixe dining option. Service in both areas of the restaurant is 5 star and I make it a point to visit every time I'm in the area.

Unbelievably excellent service and food! Plus, it is a Hospitality Included restaurant. The servers are super friendly and attentive. The tasting menu is the best. The desserts are simply sublime. We tried three Michelin 1 star restaurants on this trip in NYC in 24 hours. Gramercy Tavern takes the crown hands down! Its the best even compared to other Michelin 1 or 2 stars in the world that we have tried, e.g. Tokyo and Shanghai. We are in love with this restaurant!

The thing that stood out the most was the kind and friendly staff, who after our meal, gave us a tour of the kitchen and we got a photo with all of the chefs, cooks, and our waiter. I would highly recommend this restaurant. In addition, the drink menu was awesome. I don't drink alcohol and they had a great selection of options for me including a housemade GT Kola that was amazing. An absolute MUST TRY in New York.

I had a lovely lunch here recently. I had a special which was monk fish and it was perfectly cooked. Also a tasty salad and a sorbet for dessert. My friend had a vegetarian dish that was good. We had a bottle of Viennese wine - strange request but my friend is going to Vienna and wanted to try it. It was great. The service was excellent. We were seated in the far corner of the restaurant by ourselves but by the time we left the entire restaurant was full. Very pretty place. Noise level was low (my friend always notices if a place is noisy so now I'm aware of those things). All in all a lovely lunch.

Gramercy Tavern has been on the top 100 restaurants in America list for the past 25 years, and there is are three reasons. Food, Service and Decor is how dining is done right. Service - From the greeting to the exit. If it's not your first time, they always know your dietary restrictions, the type of table you like and they know to acknowledge that you are a returning guest. The servers work in teams and seamlessly coordinate service. When you leave, they always give you something to take home with you. Food - Executive Michael Anthony (for 25 years) is not one of those absent celebrity chefs. He's in the restaurant, conceiving each night's tasting menu with his team and walking the floor. He's incredibly approachable and has sustained his status as a TOP chef over 25 years. It's pretty remarkable.

This used to be my favorite restaurant in the city. The front staff will not hesitate to ignore you. Wanted to celebrate my Birthday, so I made a reservation for the dining room. Reservation was at 9:15pm, by 10:15pm we were never seated, so we left. The Maitre D had told me my reservation was not confirmed, which was odd because I had called the restaurant at 11am that day to confirm. Was very disappointed with the front desk, and this is not the first time I have received such behavior from them. Getting a seat in this restaurant is like pulling teeth, even when you have a reservation. Thanks for ruining my birthday Gramercy Tavern.

This place is absolutely amazing and is easily in the top 3 best meals I've ever eaten. Huge shout out to Toni (and team) for making our anniversary an amazing night. Everything was so good. The rolls were served with a goat cheese butter which was awesome, I've never had anything like it before. We did a tasting and everything tasted so fresh and flavorful. The ravioli with the pork may have been my favorite. I don't think I was crazy about one of the fish dishes but it was still good. The desserts were killer, I loved the baklava ice cream. The service here is unlike anything I've ever experienced. They were smooth and orchestrated, like it was a dance. Everything is deliberate and planned to create the best customer experience possible. It's expensive but it's worth it for special occasions and can't recommend it enough.

This restaurant did not disappoint. Chose the 3 course set menu, which was excellent. Locally sourced foods and clearly made and served with passion. We wanted a local wine and the recommendation was really great (and as it happens the least pricey) The staff were very welcoming and really looked after us, in fact they gave me a specially made birthday cake! I see the comments about the price, however, New York is one of the more expensive cities, there’s no getting away from it, particularly with exchange rates as they are. Don’t let it put you off. Superb experience thank you.

Edit: I came back here for after 2 yrs for the burger again and this time it isn't off the menu anymore and the price increased to 32. The burger was still good and was satisfied with what I had, though the price increase makes me rethink if I want to have it again next time. AMAZING, to say the least. The burger here, which is off-the-menu, is the best I've had in this city so far and I've been to many well-known restaurants known for burgers. The burger was $27 without bacon and it was amazing. The atmosphere and staff are amazing as well! Highly recommend it!

The process one goes through, of full immersion into someone's culinary philosophy, carefully planned and presented accurately - this is what can expected here. Attention to details is remarkable, with small surprises on the way, even after desert. I was pleasantly surprised to see the statement on the bill that no additional gratuity is required. The only thing I could complain about was the switch between waiters during the meal which was performed pretty awkwardly, although that did not interfere with the general experience.

Go for the lunch tasting menu as you'll be able to try many different items without breaking the bank. For me and my lunch guests personally, the food was a little on the salty side. Service was accommodating and having gratuity included was a nice bonus. Solid spot, but just missing that last little oomph to make it outstanding.

A perfect evening. Tonight I was hosting relatives from out of town. They were blown away by their experience, and I was proud to have taken them here. The hospitality was genuine and warm while the service was impeccable. The culinary work was an utter delight on all three courses, and my guests raved about the delicate flavors. We really enjoyed this place for dinner. The menu was short and sweet which I generally prefer. Everything we ordered was extremely tasty. The atmosphere in the bar is especially great. Service was prompt and efficient, never felt like we had to wait or that we were being bothered. We did cocktails here and had no complaints but I'd call them good not top shelf (not as great as Bemelmams or The Aviary for example). Worth noting: Prices contain service which is pretty odd for the USA. Would definitely go again

I cant say enough good things. This is among the best restaurants in New York. The raw scallops on the seafood tower were a.m.a.z.i.n.g!!! The duck meatballs were almost equally as good. Skip the sides (polenta, leeks) and get more appetizers. The grilled calamari flatbread was also outstanding.
