Great Spot for Hardy Breakfast! We stopped in and were seated after a short wait! It's very cozy and has a family feel. I felt like mom was making breakfast and we were waiting for it to ready! I would highly recommend Thompson House when you're in that area!!!
Excellent staff, great attitude, fantastic food this is an amazing not to be missed restaurant. Morgan behind the bar was exceptional. Highly recommend this place.
What a great night! Delicious. Great service!
Thompson House Eatery is a wonderful place for a special dinner or luncheon. Most of the food is sourced locally and prepared creatively. The waitress was very nice and friendly, and she knew the menu very well. We had two appetizers: the beet salad and the vidalia onion salad. Both were beautifully presented and delicious. Main courses were the delicious mushroom polenta and the housemade pappardelle. Both incredibly good. Dessert was a treat of the best beignets we have had since New Orleans! Compliments to the hostess, wait staff, and especially the chef and kitchen for what was a perfect Mother's Day celebration. Highly recommend!
Thompson House Eatery is an upscale restaurant is a rustic New England setting. The menu is very interesting and somewhat unusual. The food is prepared perfectly and well balanced. The staff is knowledgeable and very friendly, to the extent that they make a point of recognizing customers from the past.
Friendly staff and great food!
4 of us had a wonderful meal at the bar with great service by bartender Tom. My sirloin was superb! Everything is made in-house:pasta, bread, etc. SO good!
The atmosphere at Thompson House Eatery is really great. Very cute and rustic. However, this was really the best part about it. The service was extremely slow! It took about 20-30 minutes between each course and the waitress never came by at any point to check if we needed anything. Even when we ordered drinks as we waited to be seated, it took almost a half hour before we actually got them and at that point we had already been seated. As for the food itself, I appreciated how fresh it was but I'd say it was just ok. Based on the reviews, I was expecting it to be a bit more impressive. The homemade doughnuts, however, were absolutely delicious. Overall, because it's such a cute place, I still think it's worth going. My advice would be to go when you are not in a rush and not to set your expectations too high on the meal. But definitely get the doughnuts!
Gourmet food and drinks, comfortable and pleasant atmosphere. Attentive, helpful, friendly staff. Great views.
The Thompson House Eatery is unequivocally the best restaurant in this entire region. Their attention to detail is nothing but mesmerizing. I was looking forward to checking it out after hearing about the new owners renovation, of the barn turned restaurant, which is rustic chic and charming. The new owners (Kate and Jeff i believe) love of food and their appreciation of a pleasurable dining experience has been passed on in every little detail. Last night we went to a 5 course tasting dinner they had which was partnered with the Tamworth distillery. I could rant at length about every course, and the accompanying gin cocktail. Each course was presented like unique gift for us to unveil, (after a fun introduction by the chef who told us about the concept behind it.) What a fabulous evening. At the end of the night, the owners spoke beautifully about how the dining experience at The Thompson Eatery was an extension of their home. (They live in the same building.) And indeed it was. You can't fake this level of passion, it's obvious when you experience it. We wait in excited anticipation for the next dining experience.
The food is very good. A little pricey. Atmosphere is nice.
We loved our experience here. The chef's dishes were carefully crafted and delicious, and we enjoyed hearing about it each one.
So glad the new owners....who are connected to past owners reopened this place. Food was outrageously good. Service was impeccable. What a fantastic memory for our family. This place is first class. You will not be disappointed if you appreciate true farm to table and an amazing flavor palette.
Probably the best meal I have ever eaten. The waiter was not only knowledgeable about the menu, but completely accurate on every recommendation. Even the cocktail he recommended was amazing. The meal was great. All local ingredients, perfectly cooked and seasoned. It was a dining experience that I will be returning to many times in the near future!
Fantastic experience. I needed gluten-free and wanted vegan. They had nothing on the menu so they made some delicious for me.
Amazing staff and food...we will be back!
Charming restaurant with farm to table menu, great service, cooked to order, moderate priced menu. Will return!
What a great meal at a great place. The wait staff and the family that owns the place has done wonderful things. They were incredibly friendly and the chef even came out to greet us during the meal. It’s obvious they care but also live a life. They were taking their kids on a two week vacation two days after we visited and closing the restaurant, that’s how much they care! All of the food was delicious including a lot of homegrown produce and hand made pasta. The veal Milanese with cheese ravioli was simply incredible. Wonderful, we just wish it was closer to New York!
Wonderful food, drinks and service. Menu is always changing which makes dining with them exciting. Do not pass up the opportunity to dine here!
The food and service was excellent.
Hard pressed not to put 6 stars! Amazing foodie experience! If you give them less than 5 stars you do not deserve to eat at this "taste experience "eatery. This is not food... this is the reason we have the term "chef". I applaud its decor, staff and cuisine and for making my mountain visit memorable. Signed 2 NY chefs.
Amazing food, and completely unexpected for somewhere out in the middle of mountain country. Our server (Megan) was lovely and really friendly. The menu is small and simple and everything looked good. We had the grilled watermelon and tuna to start with and both were superb. We both had the ragu for our main and it was spot on. Loved the food, loved the atmosphere and would definitely go back!
Very nice atmosphere, food was awsome, drinks were very weak and a little pricey
Cannot say enough about this place. Service and food was fantastic. I ordered the specials, which were a tomato and balsamic salad and rabbit in pasta. Best meal I've had in a while.
Always a favorite! On a rainy first of fall we sat on the porch. Great charcuterie, crafted cocktails, aged steak, roasted cod and vegetables, Mexican chocolate ice cream. Best service! Feels like home when I come to T.H.E.!
Fantastic! Try the bolognese.
Another great drink and the best dinner in Jackson
Fresh and tasty eats in a rustic and authentic setting. Atmosphere and service were five stars all the way. One of our entrees was slightly delayed coming out of the kitchen, so we were comped dessert (you hotta try the ice cream cookie sandwich) and received numerous apologies from the waitstaff and even the owner. These folks really care about providing a great dining experience. Not to be missed if you're visiting Jackson.
Magical pairing of food.
This is hands down the best restaurant in the area. Everything is made from scratch and is fabulous!! The decor is beautiful, it looks like Joanna Gaines decorated it. I can't wait to go back next year!!
A sheer delight. I was so tired when I had dinner here that I thought it may all be a pleasant dream. The ambiance was lovely, with beautiful, rustic decor. The service was friendly and accommodating. And the food: exquisite. Every part of the meal, from the bread to the dessert, was top quality and expertly prepared. Can't wait to go back again.
This is a long delayed review-Thompson House is the best restaurant in the area BY FAR. They were very gracious to my mother on her bday last fall, and we recently returned after their break and had another great meal. The food is delicious & you can taste the quality. The owners and staff make everyone feel welcome. We aren't really a fan of White Mountain dining in general bc it is often overpriced/poor quality for a captive seasonal audience...this place beats everything within a 100+-mile radius, to include the expensive hotel subterranean wine gastropub that will go unmentioned. We are glad this place is doing so well!
Spectacular cuisine, amazing atmosphere and absolutely great people!!! Loved it to the last bite!Simply must try! The sheff is a magician five plus stars!!!
The beignets were unreal! Make sure you get that! I also ordered the steak and it was very good. Lots of interesting flavors. I loved the atmosphere and service was impeccable. Worth the $$$.
Went for my birthday dinner and was not disappointed. Our server Kevin was superbly attentive and helpful. I learned that the owners are very mindful when sourcing food and make lots of in house items like pasta, bread, and infusions. The quail was AMAZING. I can’t say enough. We got the black truffle chicken liver pate too. So good.
Great spot, locally sourced ingredients, original recipies, delicious food, sometimes live music, great atmosphere and setting
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time, the food was fantastic, and the waitstaff was phenomenal, especially our waitress, Jesse. Would recommend to everyone!! Food is also locally sourced from a couple different farms in the area.
Simply awesome experience. Top to bottom... the food was flavorful and portions were excellent. If you leave here hungry, it's your own fault. By far, my best experience on our trip. The staff was friendly and attentive... cannot say enough... 2 NY Chefs
Food and service are very good but it is incredibly noisy there. One crying child ruins it for the entire dining room. Even without a crying child, it is too noisy to hear conversational voices. Also quite $$. Excellent farm fresh food.
Hands down best restaurant in the area hands down! Farm to table. Great cocktails!
Thompson House Eatery is a very special place. The people who work there hostess, bar tender, waitress we're all very friendly and helpful. The food is all local sourced and it was excellent. There was live music and they were very good too. We had a great time and will definitely return again and again.
Outstanding food and service. Best I have had in a long time.
Outstanding! Many good restaurants in the area, very FEW outstanding. This is one, get here! Great dining experience... Going back tomorrow night.
Having had a vacation home in Jackson for many years I have experienced both the current owners and previous and Thompson House continues to provide an above average dining experience for the area. Where my frustration lies is in respective to odd aspects of customer service and increasingly elevated prices for the area. Respective to customer service I’ve had several cases where the customer isn’t right, even when they should be from my own hospitality experience. A turned bottle of wine needed to be checked and tasted by the manager before being replaced; a elderly diner was told his sausage was cook right despite asking for it to be cooked longer; and an attempt to order an appetizer while enjoying a cocktail denied twice as the “kitchen will only take order at once.” For causal fine dinning I expect flexibility and more personal service which seems to be lacking over several visits spanning many months. Price? Wow. $19 for a 3 meat charcuterie plate with small portions and the lowest price entree at $29 places it at the top of the price pyramid where there are several other outstanding choices that are closer to casual fine dinning offering a more casual experience. There are so many positives: the atmosphere is outstanding in a reclaimed barn with just the right updates to make it cozy. The food is some of the best in the valley with a highly competent chef. With regular menu changes, T.H.E. offers return diners new experiences that are often on par or even above other top restaurants in the valley. The positives continue to bring me into T.H.E. Each visit but I wish each time to see a more casual yet fine dinning experience akin to the areas vibe.
Wow! What a wonderful experience. This is the first time we have thanksgiving at a restaurant and it felt like we were at home with family. The food was delicious. We had duck, prime rib and turkey and all were so tasty. We couldn’t decide which was the best. The staff embraced us and made us feel so welcome. Thank you Kate and Jeff for a fabulous evening.
this place is outstanding!!!! between the service and the food, excellent!
T-Law from N. H. and not in the DJ booth in Connecticut , stop here for dinner and nothing was up to par. Stop there again ? I wouldn't thing so.
The prices are high but the ingredients are high quality and the taste is world-class. The food we had was on par with what you’d find in Boston or NYC or any other major city. Service was great. Prices are high but I think it’s fair for the quality. It’s a surprising find out here and it’s good to have a spot to go without having to drive all the way to Portland or Portsmouth for a high quality dining experience.
Loved going to the farmers market at Thompson house eatery in Jackson NH. Nice variety of vegetables, meats, desserts. We had beer and appetizers at the restaurant outside on their deck. The staff was so pleasant, responsive and knowledgeable. The food was amazing. We will definitely come back again when we are in the area. We really enjoyed ourselves. A treasure in Jackson.
Best meal in ages. Move over Maine Lobster. The locally raised chicken was amazing. Shishito peppers with sambal, most delectable!
Amazing food with amazing service!!
Enjoyed the food and service, exceptional
Seasonal and down to earth fine dining. They have gone to great lengths to guarantee a mostly organic and locally sourced menu. Much of their food is farmed within the property. The service was top notch and the cocktails to die for. I would come back in a heartbeat!
My wife and I, and our two kids visited this place for our last hurrah of our vacation and boy are we glad we did!!! Every single person that we encountered at the Thompson House Eatery treated us like we were old friends. Everyone was so pleasant and friendly, the service was absolutely impeccable. Melissa, the General Manager was so pleasant and accommodating when we arrived and when she came to our table later in the night to see how everything was going. The owner, Kate introduced herself to us and had several very nice conversations with us and our very talkative eight year old twins throughout the night. The bar tender put SO MUCH EFFORT in making our kids some delicious, perfect little mocktails, and she was so nice. Our server Erin, was the best server we've ever had. She was SO genuinely friendly, and attentive, and accommodating and on the ball, and we really enjoyed our time with her. We didn't get to meet the Chef, he was busy concocting some of the most creative and AMAZING food we've ever tasted. I cannot even describe how incredibly delicious EVERY SINGLE THING we ate tasted. The food was unique, and flavorful, and fresh and perfectly seasoned. Most of the produce comes right from there, they grow it themselves and the meats are local and raised right. I haven't stopped talking about the charqutery board. People ask how our vacation was and I go into a 20 minute rant about the pesto and the chicken liver pate. I had a smile on my face from the moment we walked into this place. Kate and her husband and their entire staff are doing everything right in my opinion. You can really tell that they care about what they are doing and that they want to give their guests the absolute best experience possible, and for us, they definitely accomplished that. We vacation in the White Mountains area at least once per year, and we will visit the Thompson House Eatery every time from this point forward. We wouldn't miss it for the world!
Incredible food. The chef is extremely talented and the cocktails are creative and delicious. Five stars!
The wait staff is arrogant and long winded. Extremely slow service. Food was okay. Way over priced. A BIG disappointment.
This place is incredible all around - excellent food, drinks, service, ambiance. Thompson House Eatery has it all.
excellent food and cocktails...some of the best in my experience(Boston, NYC, San Fran)exceptional service as well....will plan a trip just to eat here again...& I live 2.5 hours away!!!
The most outstanding meal I've had in years, served by the loveliest staff!!
We were lucky enough to enjoy Thanksgiving there this year. Absolutely the most lovely dining experience of my life....and everybody at the table thought the same. The space is fabulous, the food remarkable and the service was perfect. I can't say enough. I would highly recommend this special establishment.
Garden fresh and chef prepared. Delicious hornet dinner.
All the other great reviews of this place were spot on - the food is spectacular here. Lots of good beer and wine options - we tried their scallop appetizer special which was perfectly cooked and had a delicious purple potato purée- wish it came with more than 2 scallops, but the entree ended up being more than enough food so it all worked out. I had the AUTUMN SPAGHETTI CARBONARA - the homemade pasta was everything I wanted it to be. Excellent service - great ambiance - my wife wanted to take home all of the signs and the old card catalog - would definitely recommend!
Everything about this place is amazing
What can we say, not knowing what to expect we were more than satisfied!!! Just coming from our hiking trip... The food was soooo delicious, the service super friendly and helpful, the atmosphere great. Would I recommend it? YES YES YES ! Definitely a place to try out. A little bit on the higher end but you get great superb food. Definitely a really good cook in the kitchen !
Definitely recommend this place. Drinks and food were excellent. Staff was very helpful and attentive.
Amazing food and service. By far the best steak dinner I've ever had!!
Fried green tomatoes grown on the property...outstanding!
Well worth a drive of 1 and 1/2hrs. Food is unbelievably amazing. Owners and staff are the friendliest people.! You will not be disappointed.
Thompson House Eatery is truly a one-of-a-kind restaurant with exceptional service, exquisite dishes, and hand-crafted cocktails. With the historical & charming ambiance, to the plating of the dishes and the mouth-watering cocktails, this all-star team has truly perfected the art of service and understand what it takes to give their guests an enjoyable dinning experience and beyond. This farm-to-table experience allows customers to know that they are eating the highest quality food that is available and that the farming practices are safe, clean, and sustainable. I have never had a bad experience while dinning here, and I recommend this restaurant to tourists and locals alike. One you go once, there is no turning back. This is a Michelin Star worthy restaurant, you will not be disappointed.
While staying in Jackson my wife and I were driving around looking for a place for dinner. Cruising by THE we thought it looked like a cute, inviting casual restaurant so we decided to give it a shot. What we stumbled upon was one of the best dining experiences we've had in quite a while. The THE is a very cool and inviting with extremely well prepared and plated dishes. Most of the ingredients are sourced locally with the salads prepared using greens and veggies from their on site garden. We actually didn't order an entree opting instead to order several appetizers-we actually ended up ordering all of the apps they were so good. Along with a couple of glasses of very nice cabernet and a dish of basil chocolate ice cream for desert we couldn't have been happier. To add to the experience a duet was playing acoustic favorites in the bar area. The prices are a bit high but for the quality of the dishes its worth it.
Phenomenal food. Outstanding service. Best food in area. Farm to table. Must go .....but don't tell everyone. Keep the secret.
I can't say enough nice things about the Thompson house! The waitstaff is attentive & knowledgable & we love Jesse Mixer & Paul! The food is AMAZING & Chef Jeff is an absolute wizard in the kitchen! He handled our request for vegan options like a pro and has wowed us with each visit! Normally I expect the vegan options to consist of a boring pasta, stir fry or salad and we've been blown away by his creative selections each time (especially the Risotto, omg!). Fine dining in a casual setting with locally sourced ingredients, you can't go wrong at the Thompson House!
The food here is amazing. The staff are all such a pleasure. This is a must, if you are looking for a fantastic dinner.
From the moment I walked in I was met with a warm and inviting atmosphere where it all just feels welcoming. The diverse clientele is something you don't get everywhere but here at Thompson House Eatery they have mastered it to perfection. Go in for a drink at the bar or for an intament dinner for two or more the food, drink and atmosphere an the service will never disappoint with attention to every detail.
Amazing food and service, one of my favorite meals I've had.
Incredible chefs dinner. Almost everything was fresh from their garden.
Food was fantastic, locally sourced, and would rival anything in downtown Boston. The restaurant feels like eating in an old farm house with wide broads and a wood stove. We ate at the bar with Tom who was frankly the best bartender I’ve had the pleasure drinking and eating with. Can’t wait to come again.
Happened upon the eatery on my way through the area and was thrilled with the quality of the locally sourced dishes. Well worth the price.
Wow. A great find. Another place that knows how to hire great staff. The food was outstanding.
Food vegetables from the owner's farm, friendly staff, lovely setting in downtown Jackson.
We sat at the bar and enjoyed an amazing meal. The service by the bartender Tom was superb. We were blown away with his ability to create a positive experience for all his customers while still slinging drinks for the very busy rest of the restaurant. The owner/hostess was incredibly kind and attentive as well.
Simply outstanding! The setting, the staff and most of all the food. OMG. I was absolutely blown away from this farm to table establishment. No detail is left to chance. The menu has so many tempting options. The Charcuterie and lemonade to start, pure taste bud heaven. The pork tonight was luscious. Mushroom risotto perfection. The portions huge and the flavor combinations truly inspiring. Fun finishing off with Lavender honey ice cream made on site. That was to die for. Meeting the owner Kate as we arrived and were led to our table on the screen porch overlooking the gardens where it all begins was a delight. Hearing the story of how she and her husband, Chef Jeff, met, fell in love, nourished their restaurant dreams and returned home to her native Jackson to continue a special culinary legacy here was so moving. The care and love shone through every bit of our meal tonight. I will be back. Again. And again. And again. Thank you Kate & Jeff. Thank you to the staff and local artisans who make this place pure magic.
Wonderful friendly staff and owners, beautiful relaxed atmosphere, fabulous cooked from scratch, unique dishes. Locally sourced food. Our favorite restaurant!!
Boston quality food, and service... In Jackson N. H..
We had the pleasure of dining at T.H.E. last night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. As always, our experience was nothing short of exceptional. The owner, Kate, makes you feel like she is not only welcoming you to her restaurant, but to her home. She lights up the room with her smile and effervescent personality, and holds herself to the same standards as her staff in terms of her knowledge of the menu. Our meals were fantastic; creative, fresh, perfectly cooked and executed. The cherry on top was our lovely server, Erin, who doted on our every needs, timed our appetizers and entrees perfectly, and did it all with a smile and friendly demeanor. We look forward to our next visit to one of our favorite restaurants! 10/10 recommend :)
Awesome meal. So happy we found this place and refound the chef from 51 Lincoln. Great food, great service makes for a very happy dinner.
Beautiful restaurent and amazing food.
Locally owned and operated. Food was excellent and most is grown on the property. The owner came over, which was nice. The menus was more interesting than I would have imagined.
