This Restaurant is classified in the category of Indian restaurant.
Great food and prices.
Excellent Indian food. Unlimited papadum. Staff fine, though not as friendly as used to be. Used to make lassi's as requested; now just the ones they offer (too sweet).
Best Indian north of Boston and South of Portsmouth
The simple truth about Jewel is that it is consistently good. When we left the other night my wife remarked how increasingly rare it is to leave a restaurant satisfied, to find a place that serves you consistently good food at a fair price. That pretty much defines Jewel in the Crown. It's not fancy. It's family-run and family-friendly. And it's good!
My girlfriend and I are regulars at the Jewel and for a good reason - great food, wonderful staff and a more-than-pleasant atmosphere. I've been to the restaurant at least 50 times and have yet to have a bad experience in any regard! We usually arrive very close to the time the kitchen closes and they've never failed to accommodate us (well, ok, once we were too late - we missed the kitchen by 10 or more minutes which is understandable). I've been to a dozen Indian restaurants and Jewel In The Crown is by far my favorite. Go.
Fantastic Indian food. I reccomend this place to anyone looking for Indian food in Newburyport
By far the best Indian food around!
Very good tasting food and nice waitstaff!!
I would give them 1 out of 5 stars based on my experience this one time but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say that they are not usually this bad. Me and a group of 4 others went to get some dinner at the jewel after a music festival in Newburyport let out (August 30th). Eventually we were given a table in a very odd nook of the restaurant that was really too small to fit 5 people. It was then probably at least 20 or 30 mins later that I had to go and track someone down because nobody had come to us once at that point to get drinks or anything. At that point we put in our orders of 5 dinner entrees and 2 appetizers. The rest of the dinner went out of control down hill from that point that we spent most of the night laughing and making fun of the service. It constantly seemed like we had been forgotten about and that nobody was actually assigned to our table, and it took our food an incredibly long time to come out, and when it did, some people got there food while the rest of the people had to wait another 20 mins or more. Some of the food that came out was really good but at that point we couldn't tell if we were just so hungry that anything would taste good. Some people had ordered lamb tandoori that was very over cooked, and one person's meal was probably finished early and left to sit out and was getting cold by the time it got to him. There was one gentleman who we believe was the bartender that came by at several times during the night to try and look after our table that should probably be put in charge of management because he seemed to be the only one who could calmly keep track of customers. The most discouraging part of all this was that even with the festival ending there really weren't so many people in the restaurant that it should've caused this much of a calamity!
Excellent food in and around Portsmouth, Dover, Newbury and Kittery. Authentic north Indian food, cozy, clean and service oriented restaurant! A must!!
Great Indian food at a reasonable price!
Always good!
Fantastic food and equally great service. Very kind and polite staff make for a pleasant experience. It is a must try.
Every bite was followed with a "WOW". Possibly the best Indian dinner I've ever eaten. My new favorite restaurant!
this place hits it out of the park every time. very friendly...but the food, man oh man. absolutely delicious, authentic and cooked fresh each time.
Great host - delicious authentic Indian Punjabi food-
Never a disappointment! Indian food is my favorite and this is one of the best I have ever been to (including India)...HIGHLY recommend it!
Best Indian food in the whole area. We always eat at the Jewel in the Crown when we are in Newburyport.
Delicious vegetarian options -- mixed veg appetizers were tender and richly seasoned, eggplant masala was creamy and filling. Garlic naan puffy on the inside with a slightly crisp exterior -- just right. The food is consistently excellent after many visits. Friendly, efficient service as usual. Love this place.
Amazing food, terrible service. Stopped in w my aunt for a quick bite and we were the only people in the restaurant, but two other sets of customers arrived while we were there. There were 3 visible employees who preferred chatting at a table by themselves over waiting on their customers. Then 3 others joined them, with a similar passion (or lack thereof) for their work. Each time we needed service we had to gesticulate and/or stand up and approach them. However, the food was wonderful. Overall, I'd recommend it but not if you're in a rush.
If you really know Indian food you'll notice right away that this is NOT good Indian food. Everything we had was previously prepared and grilled and then re-grilled just to warm it up. The meats were either rubbery or dry. The fish had that "fishy" taste you get when someone doesn't know how to prepare fish. Make no mistake, this is low-end Indian food for people who don't know better. You will be better off just buying some Indian food from the supermarket and heating up it yourself. Also, the guy who took our order had a horribly stained shirt which was sticking out of his pants. All in all minimal effort and hopefully very forgettable experience.
Good food, good service. Unfortunately, there are the most loud, obnoxious phones, and they just don't seem to stop ringing.
Always delicious food and great service
Everyone very polite and respectful. Excellent Punjabi food. Tried the paneer and chicken chili masala both of which were awesome. Naan excellent too. Dal maharani needs some work. Overall solid Punjabi food in the north shore area
Great food at a great price and the best in the area. This is our favorite place to make excuses to go to when we’re too lazy to cook.
Greeted and seated right away. Several choices made and all great. Garlic nan is very good. Basmati rice perfectly cooked. Will go again when in town. Staff efficient and pleasant!!
Chicken tikka all the way
Always good. I like hot food and the chicken Vinderlou is the best.
SOOOO SOOOOO GOOD!! My favorite is chicken masala with a plain naan! And my boyfriend loves chicken masala and chicken vindaloo with potato naan and garlic naan. I guess if you order a good one, no one will come here only once, they will come here constantly just like me and my boyfriend! ALSO, you can tell them how spicy you want it to be like mild, medium, hot! I love medium Plus, the services is nice. The guy(I guess he is the owner?) remembers us and already know what are we gonna order when we come here. There are cute shops around here too
went there for lunch. very tasty. good lunch menu. neat location. nice staff. I will be back.
Best Indian food on the East Coast "so far". Doesnt mean i wont stop trying new ones but as of now... It takes it's name sake.. It takes the CROWN !! Owner and Staff wonderful and well knowledgeable on Persian food.. They make some off menue things, something most will not. Ask for a dhansak!!
Best Indian restaurant around! The restaurant is always clean and quiet. The food is always flavorful and delicious.
I placed an online order which I thought was for delivery (because it asked me for my address) but when I received an email confirmation of my order I was informed it was a pickup order. I phoned to cancel the order and the restaurant never refunded my money. I went into the restaurant shortly after and was told someone would call me to resolve the matter but no one ever called and I never received my refund. Crooks.
Tiki-marsala is amazing!
Great food, great staff, great lunch menu
Always great
Great food.
Incredible Indian, great martinis if you're feeling fancy. The staff is amazing and the food is to die for! I highly recommend.
This is our go-to Indian place. We really love their variety of naans. :)
Best Indian food in the area, friendly staff, nice location.
Tasty and reasonably priced!
Outstanding Indian cuisine. I had the lamb Curry prepared gluten-free and it was superb. The mango chutney was delicious and the tea was perfect. The staff was friendly and accommodating but not overbearing.
Amazing food. Best Indian food I have ever had in New England. Really good taste and owner is so nice and politely taking care of customers. Would love to visit again and again.
Absolutely fantastic food. Very high quality and very reasonably priced.
Good Indian food. Nice location. Impeccable service.
Same Cubes of chewy meat in every dish. Vegetables were raw. Bread was stale. They trIed to rush us. The Indian beer was flat expired. Hope they do better.
I'd been here awhile back but that was before I knew much about Indian food. Having now travelled to India for a total of 4 weeks I feel that I'm in a better position to weigh in. I love the chicken biryani. It's a great dish of rice, chicken, spices. I've had it in Hyderabad, which is famous for biryani and I had it twice recently at Jewel and I love it. Fantastic dish. Get it medium spicy. Friendly service. Nice atmosphere. Great downtown location.
Great food, but very busy staff. It took a long time to get our food (and subsequently our check), but once we did it was delicious (and moderately priced)!
Amezing delicious food Exllet service the way they serve kabab sizzling mind blowing love you jewel in the crown
All I can say is Good food! I mean I have had some serious hunting of good food around and I guess here it stops.
Good food but counter guy so rod put Nepali guy he talk pulity if you run a business longer
Good Indian food... they will make it to your preferred level of spiciness... reasonable prices and good service. Take out is usually pretty fast, rarely have to wait after I call in and drive over (only 6 or so blocks away)
Nice attentive servers and great food at a good price. Got free papadums as an appetizer. The lamb Korma was really good with plenty of tender lean meat and a tasty sauce. What more could you want?
I usually don't like to complain, I know how hard it is to run a restaurant. But the take out food I got last night was absolutely horrible. Maybe the cook was out sick and the janitor cooked it, but it was practically inedible. I will never order from them again.
Great service and food. Excellent.
I have already tried food over here awesome food awesome hospitality and chicken tikka masala no words for it can’t express the with words every one should try food over here
Always friendly with generous portions.
Saw D'Arcy for color and cut; truly excellent. Ambiance most relaxing.
For Indians: - for shrimp, they steam it and add it in the gravy or rice just before they bring it to u - any rice item is a joke, they take a curry and add it to plain rice and call it biryani, at least try to cook the meat completely - who adds mushrooms and chopped tomatoes in biryani - next time when you are doing this at least tell them what other veggies they may find in their food other than thats supposed to be there - kheema items are good For Non Indians You will like the taste, just tell them to cook meat properly
Amazing food and service! Will definitely be back again to try more items on the menu.
Delicious
My favorite Indian restaurant of all time! Best food hands down and great service! Come down and try them out!! Been here 100's of times!
i love coming here. i have gone twice. once on the weekend and once during the week. on friday evening it is busy however the service was excellent. my drinks and food were awesome. the people that work there are very friendly.
Best Indian food in the area. They have all the traditional Indian favorites Americans expect, plus a few some might be less familiar with, such as dosas. Service is attentive and helpful, and prices are very reasonable. It is hidden in the ground floor of an old 1880's mill building, with a pay lot conveniently located next to it. The decor is a little tired perhaps, but still nice. I recommend the vegetarian Thali dinner plate. Chicken dishes are also excellent.
Wait staff is super kind and helpful. The food is amazing. Lots of offerings from the bar. Are appetizers did arrive after the main course.
One of the best Indian restaurant for dining and take out yummy chicken korma chic tiki Masala fish tandoori we enjoyed lots see u soon thank you jewel such good food
As a New Yorker I've been very lucky to have been exposed to a wide variety of exceptional restaurants. Jewel in the Crown is top shelf a hidden jewel!!
Amazing beautiful restaurant the dood so yummy service delicate but food was really enjoying see u soon guys we are more then happy to see you again delicious
Best Indian food around.
Excellent service, spicy lamb vindaloo
Incredible food with a wide selection, fast and friendly service. They are usually very gracious about helping you out with your order if you don't know the name of something or mispronounce it. Worth the price. Incredible interior, nice and dark and romantic.
It was quiet, the service was excellent and ofcourse the food was delicious.
Best Indian in town. Really good food, fast polite service and large portion sizes. One of our favorite places. Not super expensive but not cheap. You get your monies worth. Avrige about $35 per person.
I think this place must have changed a lot in recent months...I brought a group of friends here last night and we were the only people in the place at 7pm and it was very clear why. The food was flavorless, and it was probably the worst service I've ever had at a restaurant. The staff seemed very eager to get us out of the restaurant even though we were the only ones there and it didn't close for hours. The waiter would linger by our table as we ate, we didn't have just one waiter but 3 different people (some in restaurant attire, some in street clothes) coming over every 30 seconds to move us along, and when I asked for the dessert menu as the waiter came by and we were instead given the check. I cannot understand what happened, but I honestly left the restaurant feeling like there is something else going on behind the scenes and that being a restaurant is not their first priority. All that, and it still ended up costing each of us $20. Safe to say I will never go back.
not good.. specially for indians
Great food, the waiter we had was this guy called Samartha. He has a funny name but he is a great guy and provided a great service.
Friendly service and good food just not great.
I ordered the chicken tikka masala and absolutely loved it. This was my first Indian cuisine and I can say that I will definitely be back. The sauce was irrisitable and the chicken was so tender it practically melted in your mouth. So glad I expanded my pallet.
Excellent, flavorful food. Nice people
Extremely good Indian food!
Lamb was tough, and despite only 1-2 other tables on a Sunday afternoon I felt rushed to pay.
Good restaurant.good service. I would advise to try it
One of the best food we had in here service pleasant hidden gem
Excellent!!
Yes X2
Always good food
Great location and service
Delightfully seasoned meat dishes
Our newest, favorite restaurant! The food, service and price are equally awesome! Favorite dish is the Chicken Tikka Marsala! Can not say enough good things about Jewel in the Crown!
Very very very good indian food
Consistently delicious.
This restaurant has amazing Indian food!! Very nice ambiance . You should not miss ''chicken kabab'' here !!
Best Indian we drive 45 minutes to go here
Consistently good Indian food. Lunch specials are especially good value. Good service and atmosphere.
Best Indian in the Eastern sea coast by far
If you like Indian food, give these great people some business, you won't regret it.
The food is good but I eat better in another indian restaurants
First time having Indian food. Was great, service was great. We will be going back to try more. Very pleasant experience.
The food is great
It's a bit hidden from the main road, but the atmosphere and the food is great. They have a large selection even for a vegetarian like me. Would recommend the palak paneer.
One of the best Indian restaurants around! Their food is well prepared, perfectly seasoned, and delicious. I personally think they have the best vegetable pakoras.
Best restaurant in Newburyport
My wife and I went for our anniversary. Food was very good. Service good. Nice music in the background. But during our meal time the music was turned down and the TV was turned way up with the news. Very disconcerting. Spoiled the whole evening. Won't go back
Best Indian in the area. Give it a try. Love their saag paneer.
Great indian food with vegan options by request! Interior is underwhelming, but clean.
This place is always great. The kashmir naan is particularly good, and my kids love it, which helps when kids might otherwise be too picky for Indian food.
excellent food. have only gotten take out but it's on point every time.
Great Indian food. Lunch is very reasonable. Very enjoyable destination.
Excellent flavors. Very comfortable. If you like spicy heat you can get it here.
