Sunday brunch is awesome! Great selection of dishes, sides and healthy items. All delicious. Waitstaff is so friendly and patient. Perfect spot for a languid, quite brunch. Decor is beautiful and atmosphere very calming.

I love this place! The food is always good and the owners are fabulous!! I recommend to anyone going by thinking it is a stuffy type of place. It's gorgeous and has something for everyone

Bethany Powers

The food is good, the atmosphere is warm and the staff is always friendly. They have a nice little gift shop with mostly handmade items, which is really sweet.

Awful. Sunday brunch has gone dramatically downhill. Had reservations for 3, seated at a table set for 5. Was asked twice if the other 2 in the party would be coming. The food selection was small, and the area was a mess. The quality of food was terrible as well. Eggs were runny, only donut holes for pastries, potatoes were cold, maple syrup was cold despite being labeled hot. I could barely eat one plate. The OJ is not fresh, it's from concentrate. The white sugar packets provided for coffee were stained brown. $75 including the tip. ( I do tip 20% regardless ) This was my Mother's Day brunch. Outrageous, never again.

Amazing veal cordon blue.. one of the best prime ribs in NH in a classy classic environment... I go out of my way to stop in for a bite at least once every other week or so..

A bit disappointed that the little extras are no longer there. Cheese and crackers along with the marinated mushrooms. No more wine cellar, now very limited collections. Food wasn't bad and our server was great.

Two dining rooms available, the tavern and the formal dining room. I prefer the tavern. Large menu at reasonable prices

Maybe it was because I was there for a "mercy meal" before their normal dinner hours but I was very shocked that the mashed potatoes were from a box

We have been here many times for the Sunday Breakfast Buffet And have recommended this place and to numerous people. . Always had a good experience. Went there today 9:30am worse meal I have ever had. WE were seated in the small bar area. NO HEAT. Had to sit and eat with winter coat on. Then went to the Buffet. All the food was either Luke warm or cold. Said HOT syrup. No heat under it to even get it hot. You really need to lite the stereo to keep things hot. Told people about being cold and all we got was sorry. Then when we went out to the Buffet all the tables were empty and the rooms had heat. Found out they were waiting for a Business to have a meeting. Well when we left the business meeting had not got there yet. I would think you would be more attentive to regular /local customers. We will not be back. So to anyone that I have told how good it is. I am sorry.

They have always treated me respectfully, even when I came in underdressed one evening. Also, they go way beyond excellent to insure events are memorable.

We met a most wonderful couple this evening, Wayne and Lisa from Derry. But our evening started with a most gracious hostess who gave us a historical tour of this charming restaurant situated within the oldest home in Kingston. We ate lightly because we’d had a late breakfast so it was a French onion soup to satisfy Gina’s craving!!!

Howard Anderson

Fantastic rustic setting, with elegance fantastic food, some of the best around!

The absolute best food and ambiance at a very reasonable price.

Mickie is the best!!!

We were treated to their breakfast buffet & the only food item that was decent was the home fries/potatoes. Very little to choose from. The French toast was cold & they used sliced Italian bread? The bacon broke up like bacon bites.

We had a delicious meal. Filet mignon was very good. The service was good. The wine choice was extremely limited, as in less than pizza shop variety. We went there thinking we would have a great wine list, as in the past, but not so anymore . You can’t have good dining without good wine. Sorry to say this. I will come back, however I hope for better wine!

It's a great, local place, but they really need to step up their game. They REALLY NEED a wine list. With such an extensive selection, describing what is like and letting the server choose is not acceptable. I had the 12oz fillet, medium rare. It came out VERY rare. I'm okay with that, but it had zero seasoning on it. Zero. Salt and pepper isn't much, but really adds to a steak. The mashed potatoes were good, but adding an option for something like goat cheese mashed or garlic mashed would really go a long way. My fiancee got the duck. Tasted good, but I wouldn't recommend it. Very thick layer of fat. TL/DR: it's okay for a fancy dinner. Less expensive than other fine dining options, but you get what you pay for. If they invested in a new chef and gave him/her room to grow, it could be a HUGE success.

Beautiful restaurant with great food, but service was very slow. Arrived on Christmas Eve for dinner and was seated promptly after a small mix up, comical and funny. Was approached within minutes of being seated by a waitress who took our drink order, followed by another waitress just a few minutes later who again wanted to take our drink order. Drinks arrived promptly, but this is where promptly ended. It took about 45 minutes before our appetizers arrived and then another 35 minutes for our dinners. Now this is a special occasion and we are not rushed, but if they would only made eye contact or mention the kitchen was backed up, it would of been appreciated. Now to the food, absolutely top notch. Baked stuffed Shrimp, Veal Cordon Bleau and Rack of Lamb, all rated a perfect 10. No room for desserts as we have plenty waiting for us at home. This place was decorated beautifully and this review only suffers from a waitress who may of been just a little overwhelmed with all of her tables, so this is in no way anything negative by the evening experience. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a special evening out. My only recommendation would be to upgrade the menus, as they were worn papers that didn't go with the beautiful atmosphere, but again only a suggestion.

Slow service but the food and cocktails were delicious. My husband said his martini was the best he had ever had.

Went for dinner early (5pm, 8/2)....the 1686 is an old favorite as a Fine Dining destination for us...property has changed hands recently... The 1686 may be going through an adjustment period...our experience was mixed... Dining room filled quickly and server was clearly struggling...she was alone...so staff planning is an issue....service was friendly, but uneven. Food quality was very good with the basics...onion soup, salad and warm bread were very nice... My wife's NY sirloin was a bit tough, but also bland...no seasoning / prep in the cooking process... My stuffed shrimp again was mixed...shrimp were fresh and tasty, but the stuffing was very bland... Looked forward to the pecan pie...noted on the website...while the server indicated that this has not been on the menu for some time... Will go back and give the 1686 another chance...the colonial-town setting is beautiful as is the property...and we want them to do well
