Federal Cigar Bar is by far the coolest location in downtown Portsmouth. The atmosphere and service has definitely earned this 5 stars. If there was 6 they'd have it.

Great atmosphere, looks like the speakeasies of the 20's. The GM Tom is obviously very knowledgeable and was incredibly helpful. He quickly paired the right cigar to our drinks of choice and took some time to hang out with us when he had time to spare. .I would definitely recommend this bar and we will be back again. The separate tabacco shop upstairs was a breath of fresh air when the clerk asked us direct questions and sent me away with exactly want I wanted. Both the shop and bar down below left us satisfied and educated with a smile and a laugh.

Cool atmosphere. Nice waitress. But the wait staff kept locking the main entrance door to anyone coming in. Incoming guests were not happy and very confused. Very odd thing to do. Not sure why you would lock your front door to new customers??

Selections. Service. Vibe. All great. They ensure you you are taken care of, you like what you got, and frequent chill check in makes you always covered. I don't write reviews but the staff , drinks and experience was great. We were here 2 nights in town and at Federal Cigar both nights and already ready to return.

Stopped here while my friend's went shopping. What an amazing spot!! Clean, classy and the drinks were ON POINT. I had the New Orleans Old Fashioned and I have to say it was probably one of the best Old Fashioned's I have ever had. I will most certainly be back when I am in the area!!

Kind of hard to do a review on this place. The upstairs portion is not always open when the bottom part is open. The cigar selection at the bar is a little overpriced and underwhelming. The bartenders are pleasant at the bottom and the ambience is nice. The old guy upstairs I could live without because of a remark he made. Overall a solid 3 stars because it's the only cigar spot in town.

Great place to buy cigars. Great selections and the professional behind the counter will help with your selection. You don't have to know anything about cigars and he will assist you. Downstairs is a quiet and serene bar with wine and various selections of scotches and whiskies which the bartender will help pair with your cigar that you can enjoy.

Fast service, and the person at the counter actually knows what he's talking about. You'll find that if you like smoking, and good alchohol, this is definitely the best place in Portsmouth for it. I was out walking the strip and decided to go to the cigar bar. I saw the front, but I entered through the back. I went downstairs and I found a very relaxed bar, relaxed atmosphere, and cigars and a lot of alcohol. Definitely would recommend coming here, and I will definitely be coming back again whenever I want to drink and smoke.

This place is awesome!!! You can buy a cigar at the shop upstairs, and go downstairs to the bar and smoke it. Great, relaxed atmosphere and the bartenders have been amazing. I would give it more stars if possible.

The waitress we had made the night. Funny and engaging, checked in at the right tine and seemlessly jumped into conversations in a friendly way. Cigars were good and the Port went down smooth. Good night to hang with friends in a casual environment.

Bar area poor ventilation!! Bad lighting! You can tell the bar staff were all about catering to the local regulars, as we were not regulars they gave us our drink and never checked back till our cigar was done. The cigar shop itself is a great place and atmosphere the older gentleman that helped us was extremely knowledgeable and set us up with a perfect cigar. We won't be back to the cigar bar!

My first visit here - just terrific. Low lighting makes a cozy intimate environment out of a very large space, divided into three main sections. The lounge has leather banquettes with tables and huge silver ashtrays. The long bar has seating for at least two dozen guests, and the mysterious "members" room way in the back has wooden cubbies and private tables for groups or two or three. Service was superb on our visit, good list of cigars and spirits. Low key unpretentious atmosphere. Highly recommended.

This is my favorite spot in Portsmouth! The wait staff and bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is relaxing with an upscaled feel. Federal offers signature cigars and whiskeys that are a must have. This is a must visit if you're in the area!

Federal Cigar Bar is a world class establishment. I have been to many cigar bars throughout the country and this one is my favorite. The atmosphere is classy yet casual and inviting. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They have the biggest selection of whiskey of any bar in the area. Federal Cigar Bar is the perfect spot to get away from the hustle of the downtown bar scene and enjoy a cigar and well made innovative cocktail.
