Their all-you-can-eat lunch buffet is really great deal. I don't think I can find any Chinese restaurant with a great deal like them. Black pepper beef, Chicken Teriyaki, Fried Rice, Soup, and some deserts are for a very cheap price. Make sure you're really hungry when you go to this place.

Love these guys for what they do same price as in the 2012 ad I have in the phone book. I usually go hi protein here-shrimp when available, bnls. chicken, wings, skewers, and like their full size eggrolls cut in half, nicely speckled with pork. They do well with seemingly pre prepped ses or gen tsao chix and add broc. and they do nice onion and a mushroom dish, peppered chix, beef broc., lo mein thin and not, rice, soup, free drink, dessert, nice seating in downtown, free park in back, takeout by pound. The eat in for the money is un matched, historically. Very filling I get there at 11, hot, fresh, and less than any other lunch offering on the east coast. Caf. style, styro plates, but sturdy utensils, dipping sauces, well done here.

I've lived in Dover, since the early '90's and have been to China Yan probably over 200 times. I wanted something from the buffet that had just been emptied. When it was ready, they brought it to my table. These folks are always friendly and I can just tell that they enjoy what they do. Buffet includes General Tso's chicken, garlic buttered green beans, pepper steak w/ onions, boneless spare ribs, fried rice, sesame chicken, egg rolls, wonton and sweet-n-spicy soup, and now sushi, with hot or iced tea or soda. One or two items vary occasionally, but for the most part these standards are pretty reliable. Food items are NOT greasy, being cooked in various tasty oils (not grease) depending upon the recipe. I wish they'd expand into the Newington area so I could lunch there from work. They recently redecorated and the buffet is STILL very affordable at $7.95+tax and runs from 11 to 2:30.

Not very good, ordered shrimp and broccoli. Only 4 or 5 shrimp and they gave old fried rice that had pork pieces. Did not give me an option.

I hear the buffet is good, but it was not available at dinner so we ordered off the menu. The food was only mediocre. It was brought to our table in take out containers, and we were given Styrofoam plates and plastic forks. I'd hoped for more from a Dover staple.

Great for what it is. They always give free crab rangoon, and they have pretty average take out Chinese. They're also fast. No one really eats inside outside of buffet hours.

I'm going to have to give this place another try because my review seems to be the only weak one. Granted the price is inexpensive, but you get what you pay for. So much of the offerings seemed to be swimming in oil and not very fresh. Maybe I was there on an off day.

Ordered Take Out, Food wasn’t cheap so was expecting it would be decent but most of the food was cold and mediocre. I had a bad feeling as I was driving back to work and the food smelled bad in the car. Better off going to Oriental Delight.

I used to love this buffet, but my past few visits have been increasing bad experiences. A few months ago I vowed never to return after the older part-time lady who works the counter accused my husband of stealing from the buffet after he had stepped out to take a phone call. The owners’ son had taken our money and the older lady hadn’t noticed. She harassed us at our table and when I explained my husband had already paid and had been eating with us the whole time and had only stepped out for a moment, she loudly went and got the owner and accused my husband of trying to steal buffet food in front of the entire crowded restaurant! It was so embarrassing! It was a Sunday and we had just returned from Church with our children. My husband was in a suit for goodness sake! The son who took care of our order eventually cleared things up, and the owner apologized profusely, but it was an awful experience! Fast forward to yesterday... We decided to try the buffet again. The same older lady was at the front. She tried to charge our 8 month old baby as a buffet customer... what?!! I’ve never been to a buffet that charges for kids under 3. I explained that he doesn’t eat that sort of food yet, and she didn’t end up charging for him, but I had to argue for that to happen! When I went to open the white rice, I was taken aback! The restaurant had only opened 20 minutes earlier, but the rice in the cooker had the distinctive, unmistakable musty odor and chewy texture of left over rice that sat in the warmer all night! That’s not a guess. As someone from an Asian family, it really is UNMISTAKABLE. I felt as if they were treating us as stupid laofan who would eat any garbage like pigs! There was a sign that said the styrofoam plates were reusable and to please get seconds with the used plates! Umm... Ew!! Where’s the health inspector when you need him!? The soda machine was dusty and caked with grime and syrup and grease... and it had a sign that said we would be charged 1.50 if we took our styrofoam cup with us when we left the restaurant. The high chairs had a scratch able layer of grease and sticky crumbs. I don’t know what is going on with the China Yan, but it’s going down.. fast. It’s safe to say there will be no more chances from me, that’s for sure!

Buffet is NOT worth the almost $12 you have to pay. Half of the bins are always empty and sometimes the food isn't the best. Not to mention, god forbid you try walking out of the door with a cup of water without someone chasing you down because you have to pay for the cup to leave the building with it. I guess that isn't covered in the over priced $12 buffet cost.

Place is usually reasonable I get takout atleast once sometimes twice a week and everytime the heavy set white womans working she rips me off and overcharges me more than $2s a pound and its only when she's working the rest of them are great but I will NEVER go back anytime she's working its to bad it only takes one bad employee to ruin a good business!!! Hopefully something changes before that happens!!!!!

I was holding off on writing this review because I assumed the employees were just having a bad day- but nope the customer service is terrible. I’ve had multiple cashiers and each and every one is always snappy and rude to me. I can tell they don’t like their job but if you’re that miserable just quit and stop throwing it on the customers. I never want to come back because it’s the same awful service each and every time

Good quality, inexpensive food. One of the better Chinese restaurants in the Dover/Somersworth area. Atmosphere is ok. Everything seems sticky (tables, floors). That’s really the only negative. Deep cleaning and this place would be a solid 5 stars.

Ok buffet for the lowest price. Limited selections. But all the most popular items. Drinks and a very limited desert selections. No Ice cream just cakes, puddings, and jello. For 7.95 it is well worth the price. The have limited street parking, but they do have packing around the back. Bottom line is, if you want an all you can eat lunch for under eight dollars. This is the place to go. A bonus is drinks are included in the low price.

Food isn't that great. Have order here for years just simple items like fried rice OK on late nights other items not that good. Sadly recently Service hasn't been the same called an order the same order always have. Picked it up it was wrong not a problem but the owner yelled loudly I was wrong for not saying it right over phone. Let me remind you just simple fried rice. Very unprofessional everybody in the restaurant was uncomfortable and other customers said they couldn't believe how she reacted so sad they lost us as a customer.

And they claimed they did the same thing for years to all customers no matter they are Americans or Chinese. Ok so you guys always tip yourself without clients’ permission. I am not very big on Chinese buffets, but this place has got to be the best deal in town. Most food at buffets are never fresh, it is stale tasting. This place brings the food out in small batches, it is also fresh, and well seasoned. I love the chicken on a stick, it is seasoned perfectly, sometimes I put it in the hot and sour soup. The options are not enormous, but I wouldn't expect that, sometimes you have to make a thing smaller so you don't have to compromise in the areas of freshness. The lady up front is always smiling, I think she knows the product she has for what they are offering is the best in town. Kudos to this place, my brother and I will be back for a quick lunch.
