REVIEWS OF The Grey Plume IN Nebraska

Service friendly, competent. Pasta v.good, most meats on my plate were salty though , veggies interesting and nicely done. Lemon brulee was nice.

Brad Corwin

After seeing such great reviews on The Grey Plume I took my girlfriend here for her birthday. I made reservations and we came in, our coats taken and then we were seated. The atmosphere was sophisticated. The hostess poured our glass of water and then we waited. It took awhile for our waiter to finally get to our table and we asked for a recommended wine to pair with the meal we were going to order. He asked us what kind we normally drank and then just pointed them out on the menu. We can read, we were wanting his recommendation. Then we waited and waited for him to return to take our order. We ordered our appetizer and salad. Then when it came to order the entree, I asked him which was better from two choices. He strongly urged me to pick a different item. I figured if he's recommending it that much it has to be great. Our appetizer and salad came out. The appetizer was amazing, probably the best part of the whole meal. Our waiter described what it was, left and came back to retell us that he described everything wrong. We finished those two plates and waited again for waiter. We had other staff come by to fill our drinks that were empty. I drink a lot of water, so three times I sat there with no water. The waiter came by to prepare the table for the main entree. He positioned all the silverware and cleaned off the table. When he brought the plates they didn't fit and had us move things around to be able to put the plate down. Both entrees were top notch in presentation. Unfortunately mine was just okay which could have been my fault for letting the waiter talk me into it. My girlfriend ordered hers mainly for the mushrooms but there wasn't that many. She loved everything around the plate except what was supposed to be the main dish. And last we move onto dessert. We sit there and wait quite some time again. Then I have to ask him for the dessert menu. We didn't end up wanting any of the choices so I got an espresso. Again, it took awhile for him to come back and take the order. He brought the check out with the espresso, which made me feel rushed. We paid and then guess what? We waited and waited. No one came to give us our jackets. Eventually we walked to the front and the hostess told us to have a good night. I had to ask for our jackets. Overall the restaurant looked very nice but had some major setbacks for us. Some of the food was amazing and the rest was just okay. But the biggest turnoff was the service. We have dined at fancy restaurants before and the service is top notch. The service may be excusable in some places but when I'm paying this much money, I expect the best. It could have just been an off night but we won't be returning. I still urge you to give the restaurant a chance and decide for yourself.

Great Place.!

Amazing restaurant in Midtown Omaha. I had the best experience here with such a professional staff. It was nice to wine and dine then marvel at the wonderful cuisine served. The portions were on point and the ambience of the place was just on par. Will definitely recommend and will likely visit more often!

Sandy B

The food here is just simply amazing, the Chefs are wonderful, the servers are the best!

Teryn C.

I want to start my review with this little disclaimer. It’s been mentioned in other reviews and they even have it on the menu. Grey Plume automatically adds 20% gratuity to all checks. Do NOT let this deter you from giving this place a try because, frankly, it is so worth it. Also note, the menu is seasonal and is ‘ever changing’. Our friends and I have been going through the alphabet trying new places around town that none, or most of us, have never been to. The Grey Plume was our G. Our waitress, Tessa, was phenomenal. She was very descriptive to our entire party and very well versed on the menu. Our party ordered Duck Fat Fries with melted cheese curds on top and the Charcuterie Board. The table loved the fries and the board. While not all tastes on the board were to everyone’s liking, everything had a great flavor and there was something for everyone. With that being said, the Duck Fat Fries were, by far, the highlight appetizer. For dinner I ordered the Whole Roasted Steelhead Trout while my husband had the chicken. Unfortunately, I can’t remember the exact name of his and it doesn’t show on their online menu. I will focus on the Trout, even though the taste of chicken I had of his was wonderful. The trout comes roasted, whole. The skin was the absolute crispiest skin I’ve ever had on fish. It comes resting on roasted veggies, and two types of ‘sauces’, you could say. The fish in combination with the veggies was absolutely delightful. Every flavor had purpose and belonged. The smells and textures all worked and was an absolute delight to consume. Everyone at our table enjoyed their entrees. Everyone left full, but not overly stuffed. It’s also worth noting that this location is averted to waste. Straws for one of their drinks were bamboo. They claim to even compost remaining food scraps. We will definitely be going back here again!

My husband and I were so excited to eat at The Grey Plume. We have heard nothing but great things about the food and the incredible chef. When we walked in, we immediately loved the feel of this place, the decor, the ambiance, the bar set-up, etc. We like to sit at the bar and there were two spots available for us, we sat down and ordered a couple of drinks prior to ordering. Our meal was absolutely fabulous. I started with the seasonal vegetable salad and had the homemade mushroom tortellini with short rib as my entree and my husband ordered the whole roasted trout. The food did live up to its standards. It was amazing. We love supporting local restaurants and after walking in, we thought this would be one of our new spots..............until the bill arrived. Prior to reviewing the bill, our bartender told us that they automatically add a 20% gratuity and that is split with the kitchen staff and if we wanted to add more, it would be appreciated. It was extremely awkward and it ruined our whole experience at The Grey Plume. We did not add to the tip amount. It was a complete turn off. We are not cheap people and we knew the Grey Plume was pricey. We have been to pricier restaurants all over the country and have never experienced anything like this, unless we were sitting with more than 6 or 8 people and that is understandable. Both my husband and I have worked in the food and beverage industry and 9 times out of 10 we tip well over 20% for great service. We would have tipped well over 20% last night, had this not been added to our bill. A restaurant like The Grey Plume isn’t going to attract the kind of clientele that doesn’t tip well, so they should take this off all together. Throughout the evening my husband and I kept talking about how we would come back, but the whole awkward added gratuity experience ruined it for us. We will not be back unless they change their gratuity policy.

Michael Walek

Excellent. We have an array of food allergies in my family (gluten, dairy, soy), so it can be hard to find a place able to accommodate everyone. We walked in and they were confident that we would be well taken care of without issue. They followed through. Sure you pay for the excellent service and food, but it is worth it. I got the trout, and it was excellent Overall: Great, modern, classy atmosphere Great accommodation and service Well arranged plates Enough food to fill you up.

If you are going to close for an event or private event then you should make it known prior to people showing up. Then again, most of the nicer restaurants that I go to have private dining and still public area. So it must not be that nice.

Gary Stein

Unique menu, on the pricey side.

Nicole Roberts

The food was good and the atmosphere is ok. Can improve a little the table was moving so much maybe because the floor is irregular or the table not sure. Good place for dates and special occasions.

casums8907

Service was great. The servers had wonderful suggestions and knew everything about every dish they serve. The price is obnoxiously high but it's a fine dining experience, so it's supposed to be high, and it was WELL worth it.

Candice Alder

Delicious food. Would visit again for a special occasion.

Jess Nicol

I want to give it more stars, but DANG. I loved the food, it's literally so beautiful to look at you almost don't want to eat it. It's delicious and thought out. It's as if there is love in it. Each bite is savory, because you want to savor it. My husband and I went to this establishment for my birthday. Us, considering it an event dressed up. Which, in light of the crowd of casual 'yuppies' we stuck out. There was a card on the table, wishing me a happy birthday and a glowing candle. The only downside was the waiter, to be honest. He was training someone, seemed short and irritated by our questions. SORRY I don't know what farafelle pasta is! My plebian middle class scum of an upbringing has not cultured me in the other word for bow tie pasta. For what you're paying, and what you're expected to tip I sincerely believed I would be getting better service. For not wanting to ruin a celebratory evening, it was not further discussed or brought to light. But, it would deter me from another visit. If I want amazing food and a sassy attitude I'll just stay at home.

Ehren Schlueter

If you are visiting Omaha this restaurant is highly recommended. The food is fantastic! The service here is some of the best in the city.

Jason Nash

Perhaps the best meal I've ever had.

Brenda Allen

Chef Clayton Chapman and his staff are phenomenal people, made our 80th birthday celebration so special!

Isidro Alba

delicioso la comida muy bueno

Sheila Duralia

We love the new patio and patio menu! A great addition to an already great restaurant.

Spencer Schwarting

Best food I've had in town, we've been here several times and try to make it at least once a year or for special occasions. Clayton is a culinary genius, every dish we've had has very intentional components and all the flavors compliment each other perfectly. They somehow capture the essence of Nebraska, with some traditional dishes and all local ingredients, but prepared it in a very classy way. The staff really seals the deal on the experience. They're very knowledgeable, and personable, but they do little things like folding your napkins if you stand up or leaving a hand written card for occasions like your anniversary. To top it all off, you get a little homemade cookie when you leave - we actually slipped out while the host was busy and our waitress ran out into the rain to make sure we got our cookies. It was phenomenal, we were blown away.

Joplin Pruitt

The food is fantastic. Your taste buds burst with all the different flavored. I enjoyed watching my husband literally smile with every bite. Fantastic wait staff very friendly and knows everything on the menu and what is cooked in it.

Rebecca Mensah

Steve Ingracia

One of the best restaurant experiences I have ever had. We had the tasting menu, which was interesting and well explained. Superior service. Highly recommended.

bbiiggt 69

The food was underwhelming, flavorless, and over priced. We left unsatisfied and went somewhere else to eat afterwards.

James Davis

Always superb! Excellent service, excellent food, excellent ambiance!

Gabriella Quiroz

Amazing food. Wonderful service. Highly recommend the duck fat fries.

Letty Smith

Exquisite dining experience: the food, the service, the ambience. Completly perfect in every way!

Nickolas Warner

One of the only true fine dining options in Omaha. Not to knock that, because this restaurant stands against places I've dined in NYC, Italy, SF, Tokyo, etc. Nearly everything is locally sourced and the staff knows quite a bit about the menu. We ordered a full meal and we're not disappointed. Chicken roulade was amazing and the trout was phenomenal. Don't skip the duck fat fries. My only complaint would be that the desert wasnt thawed enough and we had to wait before the ice cream was warm enough to scoop. Go visit the grey plume.

Hiromi Suenaga

Saw this place on a Zagat magazine and had high hope. The waiter was friendly but could not remember the order and came back to confirm. Then he came back again because the tea I chose was gone :/ I guess the service could be better.

Rhiannon Elf

Everything was beyond exquisite, and Patty was the greatest and coolest server I've ever had. Well worth every penny for delicious food and stellar service!

Maxxwell Lebiecki

I visited Omaha from out of town, and was told that this place was delicious. It did not disappoint.

Dan Jackson

Loved every bite! Every bite was something unique and different too! Loved our waitress and the owner is a delight as well.

eniemeier72

Out of this world service. And the burger was delicious.

c Weis

Upscale dining, upscale service. Not a typical restaurant. Very good.

Kelsey Swanson

I recently went to this restaurant with a small group of friends for dinner. The service was spectacular. The waitress anticipated our every need and made the experience extra special. The food, as expected, was an unforgettable experience. The only part of the meal that I found to be a bit disappointing was the dessert. We ordered the duck-fat donut which turned out to be very dry with little flavor.

K Kuo

This beautiful restaurant is located in Midtown Crossing. We were lucky enough to get seated at the chef’s table right away. This was around 7:30pm on a Saturday night. Excellent service and waitstaff! My whole family enjoyed the duck fries (I usually don’t eat fries and I had to try some, after I ate one I couldn’t resist to have one more). The cucumber salad was okay. It needed some more flavor and seasoning. It was too bland and flavorless! My daughter had a pork dish and she said it was delicious. I ordered the trout and the presentation was excellent; however, I would like a little more seasoning on the fish and the side dish-oyster mushroom as well. I wished they had a set of salt and pepper shakers on the table, (FYI I don’t eat very salty) so this dish was definitely lacking flavor. OVERALL, we will definitely come back to eat more delicious food from this restaurant but probably not on a Saturday ( they were too busy and it took them a while to get our food). Lastly, before we left the restaurant, the hostess gave each one of us a pre-packaged sugar cookies. I had the cookies this morning and they were delicious!

Andre Baker

The best restaurant in the mid-west! The Grey Plume staff does everything right (friendly, professional staff and world-class food)

Lee Kebler

This place is fantastic. One of the finest dinners I have had visiting Omaha. Everyone raves about the duck fat fries (which are great) but the REAL secret on the menu is the potato soup! It's pure magic.

Karlee Liberty

This experience wasn't as exciting as I was hoping it would be. At the price point, the food was not as good as it could of been. And there was much too much lemon on our entrees. And while the wait staff was polite, they were a little too hurried. And the music was a touch too loud (or the waitress spoke a touch too softly), making it difficult to hear the waitress describe anything.

Caitlin Campbell

Great food, service was spotty definitely a chef owned place.

Shelby Hedge

nasty

Fred Martin

This was one of the most wonderful dining experiences of my life. Thank you!

Theron Clayton

The food is very good but very expensive and I do mean expensive !!!!!!!!

Dre'Ya W

Really nice upscale dining. We sat at the bar and was offered a sample courtesy of the chef.

joolyen

Best restaurant experience that I have ever had. I went last night and the food is amazing, the service is great and the atmosphere is great. I highly recommend The Grey Plume. I had a tasty salad, the Morgan Ranch Wagyu Beef and the dark chocolate desert. Sooooooo good!

Jason Welsh

Had a great time, food was awesome, server was great, they didn't have blue cheese olives for my martini, but that was their only short coming.

Matt Mueller

I cannot stress how much you must go here at least once. The food, the ambiance, the staff... I have never had such a great dining experience. I've never felt so welcome and so well taken care of. It is fine dining, but it doesn't feel pretentious. Actually, I felt very much at home. The waiter even talked with us briefly about a movie we were discussing. It was just a fantastic experience. Make sure to leave room for dessert! Thank you :)

Aileen Lewis

This place has an exciting menu and it’s truly amazing! The duck fat fries and ribeye were sooo good! You’ll find this place very satisfying.

Lisa Tonjes Moritz

Always a terrific experience! We have eaten at fine restaurants across the country and the Grey Plume is consistently our favorite (and great it is blocks from our home). Tonight we had the Elk Tasting and the Pork Tasting starting with carrot soup and ending with hot chocolate which was all amazing.

Teri Cain

lovely atmophere wonderful staff and delicious food

Dave Nelson

Very good pheasant

Mary Kraft

Wonderful! Great place for a date night or a nice family dinner. The Grey Plume offers an intimate setting with delicious food.

Justin Shin

Food was really delicious. Be prepared to pay

Chris Miller

You'd expect more for $400. Been here many times and always have been impressed. As usual, the food was stellar - but the service seemed un-attentive and more worried about closing the restaurant than creating the experience I've come to appreciate (8:45 reservation). I don't think the owner/chef was here tonight - and it showed. There are too many other options in Omaha that are serious about service. I'm a fan - but disappointed. Consider "Au Courant" as a viable alternative for a better experience.

Brian Yentes

The meal was excellent and the chef and wait staff went above and beyond to prepare a delicious gluten free meal.

Curlee Brazell

This place is an Over priced insult. $90 for two meals I left their starved. The food was to salty and overall I felt like I was being had when I was done. The portions are way too small and it was not tasty unless you love salt. The atmosphere reminded me of the inside of a bank. The decor was cheesy the water was great, but the food taste and the portions we're rediculous.

Kirill Tropin

Delicious farm to table food! On an expensive side

Christopher Moloney

SUPERB DINNER. A great restaurant with a unique menu, great wine selection, and impeccable service. We had a flawless meal here that was both excellent food and attentive service. Modern atmosphere and unique dishes make this a great spot for an upscale, but relaxing nice dinner out. In a great part of town too.

Polina Smuglin

wow i was blown away about how much I enjoyed this place - ordered the duck fat fries (amazing) wagyu beef for my dad (incredible) and the trout for me (huge portion AND mind blowingly delicious). dessert was just as good with a duck fat fried doughnut, the ice cream it came with was just divine, I think it was cedar ? either way just delicious and worth the price

Raven Memoirs

Classy decor. Menu is very innovative. The ranch wagyu and smoked salmon were amazing. The ambience is so relaxing and service was quick. Great place for date night or family gatherings.

dustin sjuts

Amazing food and drinks.

Jeremy faulk

Great food! Slow service! Perfect for a dinner date or any slow dinner where farm to table service can be enjoyed.

Marlys Nicolosi

We had the 3 course menu for Omaha Restaurant Week. I chose the half charcuterie, wagu beef, and the fried donut. We also had the duck fat fries which are to die for! It was the best meal I’ve ever had! Service was excellent also. I can’t wait to go back!!

John Fettig

Outstanding in every way.

Veronica Aberle

The food was excellent we all agreed the chaicuterie plate appetizer was the best selection of cheeses meats and fruits we have ever had. It served four of us easily. Each of us chose a different entre hanger steak, duck, trout and pasta ( ravioli like). Each of us had a generous portion and we're delighted in our choices. Very tasty, delicious. My husband and I also enjoyed a double oaked Chardonnay which was very good. We skipped desert but we're handed 2 cookies each ,butter which I ate the next day still fresh and very good. We will be back next time I'm Omaha.

Matt Schmitt

This is one of those MUST try places. Yes, it is pricey, but the food and atmosphere are fantastic! Everyone seems to go out of their way to make dinner a special occasion, even if it is just a date night.

Colette Siner

Always a treat to dine here. Chef Clayton brings amazing flavors together and I enjoy the entire culinary experience at the Grey Plume. Omaha is so lucky to have such a treat right here at home!

Danielle Shanahan

Absolutely wonderful food, but even their happy hour stuff is pricey. Good atmosphere and some very friendly staff.

Pat Giambattista

I can hardly think of words to use that would match the experience my wife and I had at the Grey Plume. In short, it was perfect. From the hostess to the wait staff to Chef Chapman bringing out my wife's order everything was as it should have been and better than I expected. I could tell without doubt that the entire staff truly cares. The food was excellent, that is all I'll say about that, not enough time to go on and on about it. I work for a living and I was very pleased with the bill. I've had lesser experiences elsewhere with a larger dinner bill. I have 20 years restaurant experience (out of it for the last 15 years) and have been to many very nice restaurants but I've not had a better experience anywhere. You need to make a reservation and go ASAP. Update - Feb 18, 2018 TL;DR - Let me know about the kitchen staff tip ahead of time, don't spring it on when dropping the bill. Two nights ago my wife and I went for the third time in so many years. The food was fine, the atmosphere is the same which is great and all and there were no problems with the service or the facility. The reason I'm editing my review is because I can't make a second/different one. My problem with my last visit is the amount of $$ they tacked on to our bill for the cooking staff and the people behind the scenes and we could also tip on top of that and that amount would go to the server. There was a survey form along with the bill that explained it all. It was a good amount of $$. The survey said that we could request it be removed but I was not about to do that and look like a chump so I bit the bullet, paid it as well as a good amount extra for the server. The bill turned out to be quite a bit more than I anticipated or wanted. Now mind you, you don't go to The Grey Plume to save money and I can afford it. My point is that I was not expecting it, I would have appreciated it if we were handed this explanation note before dinner, that would have made it a lot easier. Springing it on me when dropping the bill was awkward and I did not appreciate it one bit. I really don't see myself going back again, okay maybe, because the food there is so dang good and we like to support local businesses. I might simply ask if they are still doing that when I make our next reservation. FYI, I'm dropping my rating from 5 stars to 3 just so you know my initial review gave them a 5.

Kelly Zimmerman

A beautiful dining experience! Fine dining but not stuffy Delicious food and friendly staff Well thought out table decorations and a personalized card for the special occasion we were celebrating

Abigail Nelson

I really liked the ambience with the darker lighting and candle lit tables. I think it was the hostess that informed us that the restaurant is also a part of some green initiative and is one if the greenest restaurants around. Are waitress was great and got our drinks in. We knew going in that we wanted to try one if the chefs tasting menus. We ended up deciding on the four course menu for $65. I highly recommend this. The courses were all pretty sizable and we were also brought an extra little bite which was very neat. They also had a wine pairing to go with the dishes, but we didn't get it. Next time though! The service was excellent the whole time and we really enjoyed the evening. I am definitely excited to come here again.

william szymczak

A superb dining experience! Creative pairings of different tastes and textures. I really enjoyed my pork sampler entree and which I topped off with a very unusual but delicious creme brûlée. The service was prompt and courteous and the prices commensurate with that expected at a higher end establishment. Grey Plume certainly rates a return visit on my part.

Hailey-Bryan Neumann

A tasty, local, and slightly eclectic food experience with wonderful staff. The roasted pork dish (they had a much fancier name for it) was phenomenal. You have to try the duck fat fries. Thanks to the staff for a great experience on special evening out with my wife.

Tara

Went during Omaha’s Restaurant Week and got a delicious 3 course meal. Was also treated to shortbreads on the way out!

Anna.Maria Petricelli

I asked a local to recommend a place that features slow food, preferably local. The Grey Plume, he said. It should have been the choice for my husband’s birthday dinner the night before. The first thing you notice while entering is a ritual of gifting parting customers with a pair of cookies in clear wrap tied with a raffia. A unique touch that stays in your mind while you’re being seated. You notice the open view of the kitchen as you pass by the bar presided over by the barista’s dignified and calm demeanor. Everything is calm at the Grey Plume. My husband noticed when he went to the restroom that the two chefs in the kitchen worked in a very relaxed manner. There was no typical frenzy of activity that one sees in cooking shows and movies. This is as it should be because the first ingredient in a great meal is the heart of the chef. Love of the process and of the ingredients that are shaped into what turned out to be a two-hour gustatory seduction is what it takes to make an unforgettable dining experience. At the Grey Plume, attention is paid to every detail. First, a palate teaser awaits at the table. One teaspoon of mystery layers sprinkled with nuts. One teaspoon of freshness and delicacy that you have to savor and decipher while a mix of sweet and sour lingers on your tongue. In another creative departure from the ordinary, bread was served a while after we placed our order. It turned out to be a single square of home-made focaccia. A thin round slice of butter was presented on a miniature log. Even though the focaccia’s sublimness could make you easily gobble up three or four pieces, it didn’t even occur to us to ask for more. We ordered the leek soup, the beet salad, and TD Niche Heritage Pork. I wondered if every leaf of the salad was individually sprinkled with dressing because every forkful was perfectly flavored. With chevre at the base and a dusting of pistachios at the top, you have to take it slow so that each bite gives you yet another chance to taste that range of flavors. You want it to last because, unlike the typical American portions, the servings here are sized for pleasure rather than overindulgence. When the bowl of what was supposed to be soup was placed in front of my husband, I thought that the order had been mistaken. The gorgeous little mound of delicacies in the middle of the plate sure didn’t look like soup. The server explained the layering of the specialty ingredients before pouring the soup from clay crockery on top. Wow! The pork entrée actually featured small squares of different cuts of meat and a piece of sausage. I’ll let my husband’s review reflect on that because I don’t eat pork, but I do admit to continually dipping into the bed of potato puree with corn and green beans. For dessert, our server raved about the fresh batch of ice-cream including rhubarb and watermelon, so I chose the duck fat donut with a scoop of rhubarb ice-cream. While we waited for dessert, we noticed the shelf next to us with jars of house-made sauerkraut, caramelized onions, and pickled gherkins. We got one of each (also available on their website). That gave my husband the idea to ask if the sausage he’d eaten was also for sale. It turned out to be duck sausage. Who could pass on that? The duck fat donut was served on a powdery bed of coffee butter with dollops of smoked apple butter (also for sale). How do you turn butter into powder, you ask? We asked too (Cooking classes are also available). When the time came for our parting gift, it came with a little card that invited us to enjoy the pastry in the morning. Our time at the Grey Plume gave us an evening of unforgettable connection and the glow of romance fueled by the exquisitely orchestrated seduction of visual and gustatory delights. Life is meant for pleasures like these.

High end fare. Reasonable if during happy hour. Sometimes you need spoil yourself...

Sharon L. Heck

Hands down, my favorite restaurant in Omaha. The creativity and flavors are amazing. The service is outstanding.

Taylor St. Clair

My colleagues and I were entertaining an invited seminar speaker from Boston and thought this place would really impress a Harvard professor. The dinner started out with local draft beers which were very tasty. So far so good, right? As with other reviewers, the long winded descriptions of every appetizer and dish slowly lost their gleam. The climax of the night came when the server went into great detail describing every item that helped to create the most exquisite tossed salad. He left out one important detail on my salad that I asked him to describe. What is the species of this particular "roly poly" bug walking through my lettuce sipping on the olive oil panna cotta mixed with honey? Which genera from the Armadillidiidae family does this critter belong to is what I should have asked instead of just asking him to further describe him as part of the total salad experience. The server took my salad plate without saying a WORD and after a short time a different server came back and handed me my salad, again, without saying a WORD! It looked like the outer edges of the salad were removed along with the BUG and the same salad only less of it. Needless to say, I avoided the salad. Unfortunately, ordering Davey Road's Ranch Grass Fed Beef didn't improve the evening. At best, it was ok, if you prefer your steak dry and chewy like a biscuit. I'm sure it was the anti-placebo effect of not receiving an apology from anyone that added to my distaste for the food that followed. Our guest from Boston even commented that the proprietors and staff in Boston were more pleasant than those at the Grey Plume in Omaha. And then the piece de resistance was not the dessert but was the manager's unmitigated audacity to ask us to leave in not so many words because this table was reserved for other guests. Another great opportunity to make a return customer out of me blown to bits. The next day I went to Mickey D's and received a coupon for a free item because they were a little slow with the order. Even McDonald's has the proper knowledge of how to take care of their customers. After spending what was probably thousands on our "experience", they gave us some kind of cheap cookie wrapped in plastic. A perfect ending to the night.

Jerry L. Hoffman

Simply elegant! Want exceptionally prepared food, like trout? Go to the Grey Plume!

Tyler Redwine

Food was slightly over salted on my first visit, but I'll give it another chance... Someday.

beverly russell

Atmosphere is dark and dingy. Bar is out of the 50's. Expect limited options for craft beer. Cocktails were standard. Cut of meat was decent, iceberg salad was low grade. It's a decent steak, but everything else around the steak kinda drags it down.

Ben Thornsberry

This was probably one of my favorite dining experiences in all of Omaha. The food there was all very well prepared, locally grown, fresh, and in season. The server knew everything on the menu and made great pairing recommendations with the food that we ordered. It is a perfect place to go for a nice quiet romantic date.

arturo calderon

Finest upscale place in town. Best Old Fashion as well. Duck fries are a must.

Scott Whitney

Had their 5 course tasting menu and cheese plate. While each item was good, only the pork tasting course was outstanding. When I go back, I will order just the pork dish from the menu. One drawback was that he waiter only spoke to me, and not to my wife. We both commented on how strange that made us feel.

Jonathan Hernandez

Everything is amazing and make sure to get the Duck Fat Fries.

Stephen Los

Food is delicious. Portions larger then expected. Wine list a gem. Many options

jeff gehring

Hands down best restaurants in town.

Jonathan Allen

Went to lunch with our son and his girl friend. No prime rib left. Had a mediocre pork tenderloin. Need to go back for the dinner menu sometime.

Kathrin Larsen

Fun night out! A friend and I came here on a Friday night because we had heard great things about this place. Once we walked in, the hostess immediately offered to take our coats and then had us seated right away.

Very interesting food ideas. I have only been there for the Valentines Day tasting menu, I can't speak to what the normal menu is. Well executed dishes but with some flavor profiles that I felt did not work well together at all. Very high level of technique that at times made the actual dishes inaccessible. The price was also a bit off putting.

Brittney Gilligan

I am sure this is good food to fancy people (seriously).

Angela Scull

All food sourced within 50 miles, the flavors we're amazing.

Neil Kilchriste

My girlfriend and I came to the Grey Plume for Valentine's Day and had an amazing experience. They offered a 4 course meal for the holiday and we were both over the top impressed with each. The service was excellent, and they let it be known before presenting the menu that every ingredient they could source locally, they did. It's hard to describe how great the flavor combo's were, and all the dishes were very pleasing, aesthetically. It is a little pricier, but I feel you certainly get your money's worth with the quality of the food, the service, and the quiet setting. Treat yourself and go.

Jess L

Beautiful restaurant and really thoughtful good. Menu is always changing and it's a nice, upscale place to take a date or celebrate an anniversary. Local, sustainable options are nice and they had a sommelier visit your table.

Esther John

Great dining experience! The service and food were second to none! Everything was delicious, but the carrot soup was the best!

Paige Lewis

Fabulous. Special occasion place. Excellent, creative, delicious. Farm fresh, highest quality, outstanding service, casual but elegant atmosphere.

Marcos Rose

Amazing beer selection, which was why we went. We were surprised by how good the food was also.

nicholas rombes

Top notch food and atmosphere. Do not miss this if you are in Omaha!

James Lathrop

Incredible dishes, responsibly sourced. Hands down my favorite place to spend a special occasion.

Rich Stewart

Lovely place. Chef Clayton has created an excellent menu. Modern and creative. Service is equally amazing. Always a superb dining experience every time.

Andrew Taylor

Great place for cocktails. The bartenders were knowledgeable and happy to discuss drinks and the merits of different spirits. They were able to produce well-made classics like aviations and sazeracs, or come up with new inventions on the spot to suit the customer's desire. Will definitely be going again!

Bobby Barajas

Absolutely delicious!

Michaela Volk

My husband I was went here for his birthday. We had high hopes for this place but we were very underwhelmed. Their soup was ok. It came with a flower in soup and my husband found and live ant in the flower. Their ranch wagyu was also just....ok. Definitely not worth $40. I’m giving them a star because their duck fat fries were pretty good and the presentation of the dishes was pretty cool.

Andrew Laflin

Delicious food, worth what we paid, elegant warm & inviting ambiance, friendly and professional staff, and our server Patty was phenomenal! All around fantastic dining experience, we highly recommend to all!

Jeannie Hemmingsen

Amazing food, fun cooking classes!

Sally Pittack

Always amazing food and wonderful service. Tessa was great- trust her recommendations, the pasta and wine pairing were spot on!

Liz Parsons

Maybe the best restaurant in Omaha

Darol Fiala

Outstanding service; probably the best we'veever had! Very nice ambience. Food was just ok for us. For the price....disappointed.

Ashley Hanel

This was the best restaurant in Omaha! The service was top notch and the food was spectacular. All the food was local and they are well known for theirduck. This place is pretty expensive but worth it for a good date night or special occasion.

steven gray

Best food I ever had and excellent service

Rick Bellino

Imagine being told you will be billed a 20% tip for kitchen staff and then courtesy tip for waitstaff. Food sucks for the charge, overpriced. Menu is confusing, and waitstaff seemed to be a little aloof. Atmosphere sucks..

Maggie Davis

Amazing. Everything. The charcuterie board is a must try.

phillip kristl

Excellent fine dining cuisine with a modern atmosphere. Menu is not as intimidating as you would expect, but in any case be prepared to enjoy sophisticated flavor profiles.

Bob Nord

Attentive, knowledgeable, precise, professional. The locally sourced concept works very well as the dishes and flavors are unique and appeal to all of the senses.

Travis Vandootingh

EATING AT THIS PLACE IS LIKE FINDING MONEY ON THE GROUND!!! Ok I know that sounds weird, bear with me for a second. Arriving in Omaha we did our research to find a great restaurant. Narrowing things down to a few selections and collaborating with the more than helpful people at our hotel we decided on The Grey Plume. When you're walking down the street and you see the unmistakable lure of a folded piece of green money you know you're in for a treat. Just the same we knew we were in for a treat coming to this restaurant. On your way down to pick up the folded bills you never know how much luck you've acquired until you have the green backs in your hand and unfold them. It was the same emotion with every bite in this place. You never knew how good it would be until the food hit your tongue... and when it did... O. M. G. Everything from the duck fat fries with duck egg on top, house made prosciutto and house made herbed ricotta on our excellent charcuterie board to the roasted butternut squash soup served with pureed herbs and a spoon of ice cream melted in the middle, to the absolutely butter smooth melt in your mouth beef short ribs, pork belly and wagyu steak. Pomegranate seeds adding a surprising "pop" of sweetness and tang on the best tenderloin I've had. It was amazing. It was suprisingly amazing. Finding a $20 bill folded up on the ground is good. Finding a $100 bill is even better. Tonight in Omaha we found a $1,000 bill folded up just lying on the street.

Easily one the best places to eat in Omaha. The main course selections are fantastic, and the chocolate dessert platter was the greatest thing I have ever eaten.

Carl Payne

Fine dining in Omaha with terrific food, well made drinks and superb presentation. My stop here included a multi-course dinner paired with wine and cocktails. The food was exquisitely prepared, had great flavor and was quite satiating. The sweet potato soup was exceptional and and salad we delicious. Overall the service was good albeit slow for a Wednesday night with half of the restaurant empty. They have a good wine list, limited beer selection and make quality cocktails. Pricing overall, but great for special occasions, date nights or foodies.

John Haider

Like the other reviews, this place is expensive, like I would've cried if I didn't enjoy my meal. Take the additional tips into consideration. I did have a great time, mostly the food and fancy homemade soda was amazing. I learned I love anything with Duck Fat. Their presentation was good.

Moises Inestroza

Best place to eat in Omaha. Great service, great atmosphere and the food was AMAZING. Please come to this establishment, you will not regret it.

Michael Torok

If you are looking for ambience, this is not the location. We were seated in a blind hallway where something was smeared on the wall, though there were seats throughout the restaurant. Sadly unremarkable food, though the waitstaff was attentive and personable.

Adam Hoover

In my opinion, this is the best restaurant in town. If you only have time for a quick bite, get the duck fat fries. The aioli is out of this world.

Ryan Cocciolone

Great food, good staff. Prices are steep and they add an automatic 20% gratuity.

Andy Pell

Singlely worth the trip to Omaha. Hope we're in their neighborhood again soon. Meal was undescribablely amazing.

Doc Hollinger

From the amuse bouche to the duck fat fried doughnut....a wonderfull dining experience. The ever changing seasonal menu makes each visit a new experience. The duck and trout are perfectly prepaired...the wine selections memorable. A bit pretentious, but Chef Clayton has earned the praise of those of us who return again and again.

Brenna Gomez

I came here with clients, I was a guest. Wow, super looking place first of all. I had a whole fish head and all cooked and on my plate. First time ever. I picked my way through it but won't do that again. Not the cook's fault but not my thing, the fish. Otherwise, exceptional restaurant.

Megan Jennings

Best experience ever

Jacob Iverson

Dining here is an experience all on its own. The service is top notch and the courses and structure are helpful. It was a first for me at something so fancy and it was very enjoyable. They’ll help you through the menu and make recommendations based on your preferences.

We went here to celebrate my 30th birthday and splurged on the 6 course tasting menu. Going into it, I had a little concern about it due to my girlfriend needing certain dietary restrictions. The staff were more than willing to accommodate her, which made me ecstatic! From the first interaction with Heather via email to the last final laugh with our server Charlie, this meal was by far the best I've had! The courses consisted of steak tartar, which was delicious! Even my girlfriend Tonya said she liked it, and that is coming from someone who eats her steak medium well! When it came to the next course I was presented a beautiful butternut squash soup, while she was given a salad made for her needs. The soup was delicious! It was perfect for the cold, icey night we were having. Tonya said her salad was delicious and hit the spot. After that I was given the pasta course, while she was given a dairy free beet soup. Once again both were delicious. Tonya didn't care for the soup, as since she doesn't like beats, but that's not the chef's fault. I ate half of her soup, and Charlie offered to box it up for me to enjoy later. Along came our next course, trout for myself, and the pork tasting for her. My trout was very moist, and was pair with roasted veggies, and demi. Her pork was a trio of belly and loin, served with sweet potatoe puree, wheat berries, and demi. She said it was wonderful! By the time our next course arrived we were so full, but kept on going. The portions were definitely ample amounts. We both were given the wagu strip, served with the same sweet potatoe puree and other veg with her pork. This was my only critique here. Since she had already had that flavor profile on the previous course, it seemed a little redundant, but delicious still. Finally came our dessert. Tonya was prepared a dairy free dessert of fruit, chocolate, and pecans, while I was given the duck fat doughnut. This was the perfect ending to the meal! I had also opted for the wine pairings for my dinner. Each wine was given to complement the dishes. The bartender came over and explained to me each wine and how it would pair with each dish. He seemed very knowledgeable, and was eager to explain. Tonya who didn't care for her first cocktail, asked Charlie if there was any way they could make her a margarita off menu. Charlie jumped at the chance and said they would be glad to bring one. She enjoyed it so much she order one more! All in all this meal was the best birthday dinner I could of asked for! Thank you to all the staff that made our night!

Zion Richards

Everything was perfect, it was a successful date night, my wife really loves it here and it was my surprise for her. The servers were friendly and very knowledgable with the menu! Food was superb

Michael Cimino

The food excellent prepared. The Farm to table concept is both well conceived and well executed as the attention to detail is clear from the quality of the food. The Duck fat fries alone are worth a trip. All and all the best dining experience Omaha has to offer.

Will Howery

Delicious food, great service, nice atmosphere...very well done!

Fred Sacco

Perfect.

Joe Farrell

I've had a few truly great dishes here, and one or two that didn't really do anything for me. The rest have been somewhere in between, which means that while there is a lot of good food to be had at The Grey Plume, I think it's a step below places like Au Courant, V. Mertz, and Kanō, where you can expect that every course will be superb. The service is exceptional, and I love the ambience and the wine selection. I would absolutely recommend trying it at least once, as there's plenty of room for reasonable people to disagree on how it stacks up against other fine dining restaurants in Omaha. You might just find a new favorite here. Some other reviews have mentioned the 20% service charge that The Grey Plume adds. Your check will come with a note explaining exactly what it is, but I feel some reviews have misrepresented it somewhat. It's just a way to allow the kitchen staff to share in a small percentage of the gratuity, which they apparently could not do otherwise. (I don't know whether changes made to the FLSA earlier this year affect The Grey Plume or not.) Yes, there are other models they could try to equalize pay between the kitchen and front-of-house staff, but each has its drawbacks. I think it's a good idea and I'm glad they're trying something along these lines. From what I've seen of The Grey Plume, I doubt anyone would have an experience here that would leave them feeling that a 20% tip is too much, but if you don't want the charge on there, they'll remove it for you.

Nicole Masters

Great service. Extraordinary food and service. Great to see local food profiled.

Tyler Danielson

My wife and I had an amazing meal here on our road trip. The 6 plate tasting menu was great!!

Tribe

Absolutely great food

Jeremy Eriksen

This was my best experience dining out so far. The whole experience was wonderful. No words can explain how great this was and the portions are perfect. Take your time and enjoy the experience.

Ken Hinsdale

Amazing experience. Outstanding food and presentation unmatched in the metro.

Don Goff

Great customer service, nice location , and the food is very delicious..

Tim Sisson

A little bar food as a light dinner. This place is amazing. The wings were good, slightly sweet and salty. The highlight was the charcuterie, easily the best $9 happy hour item I've ever bought. The rillet and belly on the board were mind blowing.

5mile Digital

Fantastic, simply fantastic

Jennifer Wassenberg

The soup. I genuinely cannot express in words how phenomenal Chef Clayton's soups are. They showcase his amazing variety while keeping the flavor understated yet over-the-top… Again I just cannot explain it, you have to try it for yourself. Just get your butt here for dinner or happy hour and everything you have it will be an utter delight but please, for your own sake, try to soup.

Jeremy Mitchell

I took the whole hog butchery course, and it was a fantastic experience. The instructor was the chef-owner from The Grey Plume, and he made we were all comfortable and.was always right there to lend a hand. The included lunch was served at the restaurant and was delicious! The cooking courses are highly recommend.

Zach Maharaj

Fantastic quill setting with open atmosphere, Thanks.

Andrea Arellano

My favorite !!

Suzie Smith

Back here for the nth time. Love this place! It’s beautiful and inviting. Adorable staff and flawless service. The food? Totally delicious! Classic and modern taste altogether.

Mike Sechler

The experience was excellent. The food and the service were great. Every course was very high quality. The servers were clearly very well trained to a consistent high level of service and they all seemed to be enjoying their jobs. It was a great date night for my wife and me. Here are a several bits of information that might help you understand the restaurant more. First, they focus heavily on sustainability and local sourcing, which I don't mind but which can come off as a little preachy at first. The staff clearly believes in the company mission and it perhaps makes them more passionate about working there. Second, they definitely talk up their own products and try to up sell you to more courses. Since the food was excellent, I again did not mind, but we did have to say no a couple of times. Third, although this is rated a $$ in the overall reviews it is definitely a $$$ restaurant. Entrées were $20-35 and appetizers and desserts were $10-25. Expect to pay $80+ for a night out as a couple. Now I walked away thinking it was worth it, but hopefully this helps you plan accordingly.

Jack Nelson

Always a welcoming place with excellent service, food, and wine!

Dustin Thostenson

Ranks among the best meals I've ever had. Beautiful attention to detail.

Joe VanTrimmell

Great food. Friendly, attentive staff. Price was high, but the food was worth it. Wasn't amazed by the interior, but nice. Overall a good experience.

Patty Hartel

Very tasty good with friendly service, but drinks from the bar took about 20 minutes each time

Criza Wilson

Me and my gal friends went here for happy hour, we ordered some beer and the plum creek farm's chicken wings, and ended our night with the duck fat donut with ice cream! the gals were so pleased with their food and service!

Mary Beth Roberts

Very expensive! Weird included gratuity! Food was good, but probably won't go again

Him Sb

I thought the meat curtains were undercooked. I also don't like neutral colors.
