I ate here for the first time today. The menu offers a good variety. I ordered a 2 enchilada meal. You get to choose your filling, so I chose the shredded beef and the pork. I wasn't sure whether to get the red or green sauce...she gave me a sample of the green, and it was hands-down the most delicious chile verde sauce I've ever tasted! The rice is very good, & I normally don't care for refried beans, but their's taste better than any I've ever tried. The shredded beef is delicious also. There is a huge salsa/condiment bar with every Mexican topping you can think of. The salsa is outstanding! They also provide free chips. The prices are mid-range for an order-at-the-counter eatery. Overall, the food is home-made, authentic, and delicious! I would highly recommend eating here!

Their menu really expands on the weekend, but regardless you must try the pulled pork tamale (one of the best I've ever had). Unlimited chips and full of variety salsa bar. Friendly staff! Guac is simple and perfect, very fresh! More to report next time I'm in town...

We are a family of 6. We were celebrating my sons birthday. He requested to celebrate at La Mexicana. He is so sad that it was ruined by rude staff. We were frequent customers until today. I hate to say that their new location on Locust St. have staff that will run this place into the ground.I am so upset. My family and I LOVE this place but today we were treated so disrespectufully by their staff at the desk. Our meat was spoiled from the Molcajete meal and when we mentioned it our entire meal was taken away and we were not taken seriously. They took $3 off of our tab of over $30. She told us that we ate almost all our food, and that is not true. We were charged for food we didn't eat. All of our family got sick as well. Don't go there.

Best Mexican food I'm town. My husband loves the tortas and I love the hard shell chicken tacos as well as the enchiladas. We both also love the asada tacos. When you eat there you get free chips. You always get to choose what sauces to get and how many also they hace onion and cilantro and picadillo and nopales to choose to add to your food. Lemon as well. Food comes out pretty fast. The market side is also great. They have a huge variety of pan dulce (sweet bread) all very delicious!!

I was disappointed, for starters they definitely cater to the gringos with all that American cheese they use! If I was forced against my will to go back the only thing I would eat would be the chips, salsa, rice and beans. There were 6 of us when we went and we all ordered a variety of different things, so I sampled quite a bit. But in short the meat was too salty and not as flavorful as Mexican meat usually is.

Traveling and checked for Mexican restaurants. This is very authentic, no frills. They accommodated me by making veggie fajitas. The fajitas were muy delicioso as was the salsa bar with sliced radishes, Pico de Gallo and more. So glad I eat there.

Only barrier can be language when ordering but they are patient here and willing to take their time to work through it, do the same and you will be fine!!! Prices were a little on the high end for the food quality. I had the tacos de pollo, and the chicken was soggy and not flavorful. It tasted like canned chicken. Nice topping bar for your meal and the chips were good.. Overall I won't be back for chicken tacos.

My wife and I went to the south locust street location. The waitress was very nice. I asked her about an item on the menu, weather or not it was just meat in the tortilla or did it have anything else. She told me it was just meat. We both ordered that meal. While eating that meal we both noticed the tortilla was filled with half rice and half meat. I asked the waitress about the rice and told her that it wasn't worth the price. She was really nice and apologetic. She said she would talk to the manager. The manager never came to talk to us. When the bill was brought to me she apologized for my inconvenience. We got refried beans, a spoonful of tomatoes, a spoonful of lettuce, a spoonful of sour cream, queso sauce, deep fried tortilla, a small amount of meat, and rice at a very high price. If you like rice and beans, this is the place for you. We will not go back to this restaurant.

I have been to a lot of Mexican restaurants and this is one you must check out. It is a local favorite with traditional food. My favorite is the carne asada beef plate. The salsa and topping bar is an added bonus.
