We were there for the first time. Enjoyed the foods and loved the vibe so much. Mushroom risotto was my favorite. I’ll order again if we go back.
This was a wonderful place! Great food and with great service. I strongly recommend this restaurant.
My wife and I went here for our anniversary. It was quiet, elegant, and the service was incredible. I eaten at some very nice restaurants in my life time but this has to be one of the best. The atmosphere was perfect and the food was excellent. I recommend the cognac marinated steak. I know mac-n-cheese is only a side dish but it was the best I've ever had. They even brought our steak knives out on a plate by themselves. My wife loved the pork chop. All and all one of the best. I would recommend to anyone. One of kind. My compliments to the chefs.
Lamb shank, done right.
One of the best meals I've ever had at a very nice restaurant. The service was outstanding and owner even makes sure you have completely enjoyed your experience.
Excellent cuisine, excellent service.
We had the pleasure of discovering the bistro during an overnight stay in Bozeman. Hands down the best food we've had the entire trip and possibly the past few years. We highly recommend it to everyone, well worth the side trip.
The food, the personnel, and the other patrons were wonderful. We started with perfect escargot and ended with The Black Beast for dessert. We also had the ribeye and lamb shank.
Delicious food and nice ambiance. Our waiter (I think his name was Alec) was quite possibly the best and most well spoken waiter I've come across, and certainly the best I've come across in Bozeman.
Our server, Alex, was unbelievable. He was very attentive, professional, and knowledgeable about the menu. I loved the wines he recommended for me, and knew exactly what they paired with. The space itself is small and quaint. I believe it's a remodeled historic home in the area. We had reservations and were seated immediately. When we have am extra dime we'll be baclk
Loved the squash ravioli.
Great atmosphere, friendly wait staff, some of the best food I've ever had. Hands down the best restaurant in town.
Great dining atmosphere and the food is very good. Our waitress was one of the best ever.
this is the second time my wife and I have been there. it is never disappointing.
I have been to South 9th Bistro twice in the last month and loved it both times. There is a nice variety on the menu from seafood to meats to pasta. Everyone in our group (10 of us) raved about the food. Ingredients are fresh, preparation and presentation are superb, and the service is exceptional. I had the Pasta a la Mer one night and the Wild Salmon on the 2nd visit and both were terrific. I can hardly wait to go back and try something else. No one in our group had a complaint. The wine list, while not exotic, is large enough and with enough variety to please most diners. The restaurant is in a remodeled older home on the edge of a quiet residential area. Acoustic tiles and panels have been installed on the main level, so even on a busy night, it's not too noisy. There is also seating upstairs and a separate room which handled our party of ten perfectly. There are many excellent restaurants in Bozeman, and I have been to almost all of them. South 9th Bistro, hands down, has the best food and service and is the best value in the area. It has instantly become my favorite restaurant in town. I should add one more thing: When the owner says great food, great service, no excuses, he really means it. He takes a personal interest in the quality of the product he provides, checking on diners while they are in the restaurant, personally greeting customers at the door as well as thanking them as they leave. You will not be disappointed at South 9th Bistro.
Excellent food and service. Definitely planning to return on a regular basis. Owner stopped by our table twice to make sure everything was fine.
The burger was bland, no seasoning. The NY strip was mostly fat, again not very well seasoned. It was also freezing in there. Maybe update the windows or get some window treatments. The portions were of good size and the service was also good. The food on the other hand was not good. Will not be going back.
We scheduled a large party of almost 50 people here. The food was awesome (especially the Prime Rib) and the staff was exceptionally friendly and attentive.
Outstanding food, great service, friendly, casual, good wine, super deserts (we had the best cheese cake ever!)--with modest prices for what you get.
We had a short few hours to spend with our boys at MSU and we wanted to get a good bite to eat with them. We rolled the dice and picked this Bistro. We hit the Jackpot. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. The host that seated us was very gracious. The food was very well presented and amazing. The flavors were spectacular. If I can impress anything upon you. Try the Scallops. The Beurre Blanc sauce was transcendental. For an appetizer it was out of this world. Our dinners were great. I will dream about the prosciutto scallops for some time. Do yourself a favor next time you are in Bozeman and try this place. I had the Filet Au Puavé. It was great. Next time I will try the salmon with the Beurre Blanc sauce. The Bistro is in a historic old house that lends itself to the dinner at a friend's feel. You won't be dissapointed.
Classy, delicious, and friendly. Couldn't ask for more
I admit it... I'm a food snob and I am addicted to S 9th Bistro. My husband and I eat here about every other week. The kale salad is incredible. The steak au poivre is amazing. The Beast is the best chocolate dessert in town and all this is accompanied by fantastic customer service!
Excellent service and food! Highly Recommend
It’s rare that I give a review but this restaurant really deserves one. Excellent meals and service!!! Our server was fantastic and the owner came by to make sure we were enjoying everything. The atmosphere is very quaint and cozy. We had the escargots, beet salad, butternut squash ravioli and beef bourguignon and they were all fantastic! Also the crack tart dessert was excellent!! I would highly recommend!!!
Great food, and solid service. Boyfriend and I had anniversary plans here, but I definitely encourage reservations. I watched at least 3 parties get turned away before we were sat. My only (small) complaint was the seating. I'm not a fan of sliding into a booth when wearing a fancy dress and heels. But not all tables had booth seating, so I imagine it's an easy work around. (Pictured: Coquilles St. Jaques, Lamb shank, and the crab cake appetizers (we requested these come out with the entree)).
Very good food, each dish and appetizer can be shared. A little pricey. Drinks menu has decent variety.
My wife and I had the pleasure of dining here this week. The ambiance, service, wine, and food were remarkable! The entire experience was relaxing and we did not feel rushed. This is a real gem in the Bozone! Thank you!
Best meal I have had in Bozeman!
The best restaurant Bozeman has to offer! Knowledgeable wait staff, and a refined menu. The black truffle risotto is amazing, as is the seafood ravioli, Steak Au Poivre is heavenly. I haven't found a disappointing dish there yet!
Best restaurant in town and maybe the best I've ever been to! The knowledge the staff had of wine pairings and food was impressive. It may seem expensive but for that quality of food and experience it is amazing. We went in the very cold winter and I felt like maybe the lack of window dressings cooled the food off quicker than it I would have liked, but the kitchen was prepared and sent it out in the perfect order to keep it hot while we ate. It's hard to not just keep raving about how delicious the food was!
We were in Bozeman for my daughters graduation from nursing school. We had her pick where she'd like to dine to celebrate her pinning day. She could not have picked a better place!! The food, the atmosphere and the service was over the top!!!! Hands down one of the best dining experiences we ever had. What a perfect way to top off such a special day!! Thank you!!!!!!
The south 9 bistro was OK it was delicious food came hot. Drinks came cold. And if you like eating outside or inside they got you covered. I ate outside. THE best part is great service and super freindly. For desert their is an ice cream place across the street i would recommend this.
By far best food in Bozeman, excellent service and very friendly atmosphere
Some of the best food in Bozeman, which is saying alot!
This place is amazing, the food is exceptional and so it the customer service. All food prices all the way from very affordable entrees to Exquisite steaks. It is very low-key not a lot of hustle and bustle and a very nice place to take a date or your wife for a romantic dinner. The setting is nothing other than Pleasant and cozy. Enjoy
South 9th bistro is exceptional. If you live in Bozeman or you have visiting guests you won't find a more inviting staff cozy atmosphere and talented chefs under one roof. Our new favorite
My husband and I visited South 9th Bistro for his birthday dinner. He had the Lamb Shank which he thoroughly enjoyed. I had the Steak AuPoivre and it was incredible. Our server, Lisa, was delightful. It was the best dinner I have ever had in Bozeman. If you have never visited the South 9th Bistro, you must go. Best restaurant in Montana.
Delicious food, knowledgeable staff, and a nice, quiet atmosphere
This restaurant is a one of a kind exprience!! SO worth the price - you are not paying for American filler food, you are paying for a trip to France, brimming with flavor and filled with finesse. The owner greeted us personally, (it was clear we were valued costumers) and the service was really great. The atmosphere was perfect for a special date on the town!
Good food. However, the owner was very condescending to us when explaining his desert and how he wanted to, "bring some class to Bozeman."
A funky place with great food.
It was delicious! And we had a very professional waiter as well. There was a special soup that was so good I can't wait to fly back to Bozeman and get more!
Absolutely delicious!! Great service. Hoping they get on board with our other great restaurants and start using 7spruce farm gourmet hydroponic tomatoes!! Regards-Tim and Darcy Gallagher
Beautiful atmosphere, very friendly staff, AMAZING FOOD!!
Great food, service, escargot, and experience!
A lovely evening with my husband. Delicious food and great service
The best Lamb Shank that I have had so far. Melts in your mouth. The Prosciutto wrapped sea scallop appetizer was excellent. Loved the crack tart dessert. A must have dessert. Our waitress Lisa was outstanding. Great service. The owner Hank was very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely return anytime I come back to Montana.
So good. I had the seafood ravioli, which looks to be made completely in-house, and the escargots, and both were very well made and so delicious. Also, the black beast dessert is amazing--so rich and chcolatey, with raspberry flavors mixed in. I totally recommend.
Best food in Bozeman bar none.
Terrific, a tiny little spendy...but worth every nickel, both food, service and environment
Very clean, very cool, very laid back and delivers a solid menu. Can't say enough about the butternut squash with brown butter nut sage. If you could only have one appetizer, this is a can't miss. Hank, the owner, very friendly and engaging and Lisa, our server, is a total Super Star! Outstanding customer service, amazing food and presentation. South 9 Bistro ROCKS!
The food here is seriously good, and the wine selection hasn't disappointed. They are a small place that is very conscientious about not spreading their staff too thin, so the service is consistently excellent. Definitely reserve a table in advance, no matter how small your party.
Food and service is amazing. The salmon with the beurre blanc is the best salmon I have ever had. Expect to pay a pretty penny for the experience although.
Most delicious food and nicest restaurant in town.
My friend and I ate at the South 9th Bistro the other night and were VERY pleasantly surprised! people need to stop going to the same three restaurants in Bozeman and branch out! The food was excellent--salads fresh and original, the shrimp risotto super tasty and her pizza was great, too--and our server was wonderful. If you are sick of fighting for a table at Aleworks or Blackbird, I strongly recommend the South 9th Bistro--and I am a picky eater! Check it out, for the love of god!!!
Delish!
Cute place. Fantastic truffle fries. Save room for the bread pudding!
Delicious food and good portions!
Superb service, excellent cuisine, very personal atmosphere. Highly recommend.
Food was amazing!
Incredible French cuisine. Hope to return soon!
Beat restaurant in Bozeman in every respect.
Love the salmon, fungi pasta, coquilles St. Jacques, and all of the wonderful veggie sides. One of Bozeman's best. Great wait staff as well and wonderful wine list.
Hands on the best place in Bozeman. Dinner is incredible: delicious and intimate. A delight for gourmet food lovers. Best Steak au poivre om this side of the continent. During lunch and brunch (i have been in both) no lines, personal and dedicated atention and discriminating patrons. Not your regular steak house in Bozeman. You will always leave with the feeling that you had something special.
I have eaten here many times. The food is always presented well and tastes wonderful. The service is outstanding each and every time. Anyone looking for a great meal should try this restaurant.
Friggin amazing.
Favorite place in town
South 9th Bistro is on my wife's and mine top ten restaurants list for Bozeman. When we visit we eat out, so we have dined at most of the eating establishments in this beautiful town. I personally wish we would have found South 9th earlier in our visits. The service was a rarity by today's standards. The staff was friendly, prompt, and courteous. Good knowledge of the menu and preparation. When it came to digging my fork into the delicious scallop and shrimp scampi risotto I was content on all things in the world. My wife's pork chop was so juicy it almost converted me to a pork fan, even though I am never fond of pork chops. I wish the South 9th farewell and may I be back soon to enjoy your wonderful menu again.
Excelent food
Popped in just try it out. Excellent food, great service. Don't let the exterior fool you, amazing italian gem hidden in Bozeman. Highly recommend it.
Wow the service is here is to notch! The food is even better. Parking can be tough though.
This restaurant is amazing, the atmosphere is very calm and the staff is very polite. They serve high end food so expect a higher price. Make a reservation in advance.
Excellent food!
Came here for our Anniversary. It was amazing! Definitely will be coming back again soon!
Loved it! Great food and pleasant atmosphere.
I've eaten in the majority of the lower 48, including the biggest food hub cities, so it's a bold statement, but South 9th Bistro is my number one favorite restaurant. I'm completely blown away every time I go there. I had the halibut with asparagus risotto last time, and the balance and explosive was just unbelievable. The atmosphere is beautiful, perfect for a romantic date or a nice meal with friends or family. It's not cheap, but if you want to splurge, or have plenty of disposable income, you won't be disappointed.
Casual atmosphere but nothing ordinary about the menu or the finished dishes. Everyone in our party thought the food was excellent.
Great food and atmosphere. The owner is welcoming and fun to talk to and our waitress, Lisa, was perfect-knowledgeable , efficient and personable. Everything we ordered was delicious. We had a great time celebrating a birthday! ,
That was the best risotto I have ever had! The halibut was very fresh. I'm from out of town and will be back. The atmosphere was so relaxing after a long day of work.
What a great find! Food was great. We had butternut squash appetizer , wonderful salad, beets and greens. I had homemade pasta with fungi and my husband had Bison for our entree! Good beers and wine selections! Staff was very nice.
Service was excellent, food was delicious. Lovely environment couldn’t have asked for anything more. Highly recommend it.
Our go to restaurant for special occasions. Always awesome service, attentive not cloying. Well prepared food. Not a huge selection but what they have is really well done.
Have dined here a couple times now and it is fantastic. I've tried different meals each time and have yet to be disappointed. Love the atmosphere as well.
Unbelievable food!! Perfect for a special night like a casual get together
Best food and staff that we have had in a long time!
Simply amazing filet mignon. There was a crisp, seared crust on the outside that had a great taste and texture. It was topped with a flavorful, rich sauce which is not for the food network snobs who don't like seasoning. Every bite was bursting with flavor from the crisp crust to the medium rare inside because of the sauce. My wife had the fettuccine funghi which was equally fantastic. This was perhaps in the top two dining experiences I've ever had.
Hands down my favorite Bozeman restaurant. The food was to die for, and the wine list was impressive and not too pricey overall. We had a large group and sat upstairs, which gave it a homey, dinner party atmosphere, but the whole place is adorable. Our server Alex was awesome, friendly, and super knowledgable about the menu. I highly recommend the Coquille St. Jacques and The Black Beast for dessert, they definitely do not disappoint.
Lovely as always!
The dinner was perfect! This is a great restaurant and a real gem in Bozeman. I had wonderful lamb shanks and my wife had the best steak we've ever tasted, anywhere.
Went twice on my short visit to Bozeman. Excellent cooking (the eggplant, the burgers, the ravioli!). I love great food in neat, cozy but unpretentious entourage. South 9th is a gem!
Great food, good beer and wine choices.
This bistro is immaculate. The food is decadent and perfectly prepared. The staff is knowledgeable and genuine. The house is creatively designed and the patio is beyond pleasant to have a meal at. They have my favorite beers and a seasonally conscious menu. An absolute treat, surf to turf, from appetizers thru to dessert!
OUTSTANDING & EXCEPTIONAL ! Walked in with warm hospitality and eagerness to excel minded staff. Left in a EUPHORIC high ! My travel partner and I shared the perfectly cooked crab cakes and prosciutto wrapped scallops. Each came on a bed of baby arugula and their own delightful dressing/ramelaude. I do not care for arugula but LOVED it in these brilliant dishes/dressings. Next was the beet salad - again with arugula in the mixed greens but it worked so well with the dressing, goat cheese and beets. YUM The butternut squash ravioli was perfectly cooked and my first experience as a sweeter dish rather than savory squash ravioli. We shared the appetizer size since we were trying several dishes. Had it been just one main course it may have become too heavy to finish. We both found that each bite actually became more enjoyable than the first and second! Awe, the cognac marinated rib eye.. reminded us slightly of teriyaki but different. Loved the char and again... perfectly cooked to specification. The mac and cheese should be offered as a main course or appetizer... Rich, savory cheese flavor... but not heavy -DELISH !! Ended with the amazing banana bread pudding. Real banana flavor, not artificial and great texture and homemade salted caramel sauce. I enjoyed and highly recommend the Truchard pinot noir which for me paired from good to great with each course. FINALLY, the first experience walking into this establishment the matre d' was poised and very warm natured. I liked him ! Our waitress Lisa was a JOY !! She not only was incredibly patient with us but genuinely served us with a joyful heart and we felt privileged to have her. She made superb recommendations and I could not tell you that I have ever been given such wonderful service EVER. Perhaps the top 3 restaurant experiences of my 40+ years.
Amazing food and service.
Dinner was amazing and staff read helpful, I especially loved that they carried mexican Sprite made with real cane sugar! I used to drink that all the time when I lived in chicago but you don't see it much around here
Wonderful atmosphere & friendly staff paired with great food!! Bozeman natives will recognize the location as where Casa Sanchez used to be, but this quaint house-turned-restaurant has been remodeled to make it even better! The truffle fries were amazing, the main courses took it up a notch, and the bread pudding was to die for! Will be going there next time I’m in town!!
We went for Sunday brunch, and the food and service was really good! The only drawback was that for the amount of food per plate it was a little overpriced. Their menu is online though, so you can check it out ahead of time.
My wife and I had our 6th anniversary dinner here and it was phenomenal! The squash ravioli is amazing. I was a chef for 16 years and the food is executed very well. When in Bozeman, be sure to go here!
Wonderful little restaurant that we went to on our 20th wedding anniversary. I can not say enough nice things about this eaterrrie. The food was amazing!! Everything freshly cooked and so delicious. Our serving personnel Lisa was amazing. She knew the food menu items and was happy to give us some of her knowledge. I loved the fact that cell phones were used outside for conversations. The atmosphere was perfect. Light music so you could interact with your dining companion without screaming across the table. The decor was bright and cheerful and a real red rose on each table. We will definitely be back.
Great food, great service. Perfect atmosphere for a date night!
Having never been to the Bistro before, I took four very important clients out to dinner. Needles to say, I was impressed and everyone in the party raved. The food was fantastic, our waitress was exellent and we all had a great experience. Seriously, the food was delicious. Great addition to the Bozeman line up of restaurants.
Expensive, but worth it.
Outstanding food, service and ambiance! My new favorite restaurant in Bozeman.
Wonderful food and a very nice wine list. The service was fast and very knowledgeable about their food. This would be a great restaurant in any town. Try it - you'll definitely like it.
Having eaten nearly everywhere in Bozeman, this is hands down my favorite restaurant in town. From the exceptional service to the mouth-watering variety of food, everything is top notch. Lisa made for a memorable experience that will keep me coming back!
