REVIEWS OF Pekin Noodle Parlor IN Montana

Grant Kingston

After reading the reviews we figured we would try and in short the food was terrible. We ordered chicken chow mien which consisted of green onions and rubbery sliced processed deli meat, orange chicken was soggy and cold, fried wonton paper with a bland sweet and sour sauce on top, foil chicken was very tough, noodles were in a water broth which had no taste, jumbo shrimp were extremely small and came with a disgusting “shrimp sauce”, and finally the pork fried rice was cold and had shaved ham on top. All in all, the food and experience was horrible and will never go again. Please take your interests somewhere else as you will be disappointed as we were.

Russell Perler

Great story regarding this building's history. Attached are two photo's of posters mounted in this restaurant. The serving staff was friendly and very helpful, mentioning I was free to 'look around, and visit the lounge. Have fun!!!

I've lived in Butte less than a year and quite honestly, I don't understand why foodie celebs bother with it. Something to do with the Berkeley pit must make hair falling into food a common occourance here bc I've experienced it at MULTIPLE restaurants. So to Pekin... I knew the food was not going to be good the second I walked in, heck I knew based on my ex father in laws rave reviews for years before trying it that the food was gonna suck. He had awful taste in food. So I proceeded with caution... Barbecue pork yeah ok that should be safe... Nope it was completely gray... Like a dead thing... And alongside my side of hot mustard I got a nice side of hair to go along with it. Now, I'm not even going to lie... I find its divey quality charming and I would go back. I'd order food with zero intent to eat it just bc the atmosphere is kitschy. So I say go, give the nice family who owns it your business just plan on not eating the food bc it's not good.

Don Hook

I have lived all over the world and this is the worst Chinese food I have ever ate. Don't throw your money away.

Jody D Gustafson

The best in Butte

Elizabeth Duhame

While the food is really good, the service we get here always seems to be very poor though.

Tanner Heick

Great food! Great atmosphere! And our waitress Shanna was the best!

Michael Mcloughlin

The worst food I've ever ordered anywhere. Not just the worst chinese food but the worst of anything I've ever eaten in a restaurant. My wife and i could not even eat it and walked out after 3 bites. Limp tasteless veggies, low-end lunch meat quality processed chicken (wasn't even cooked into the dish, just sprinkled on top), canned mushrooms, bone in meat for the sweet and sour pork, everything was luke warm, mushy textured, bland and covered in grease. This is BY A LONG LONG WAYS the worst food I have ever paid someone to make me. If I would have made this at home I would have thrown it away..... I cannot even believe that this place is open and that they care so little.

Gabriel Vega

Over 100 years in business good food at good prices

Karen Collier

I had eaten at the Pekin years ago and it was not bad. Not memorable though. Last week I thought, why not give it another try. My mother and sister had never been there and I thought it would be fun for them as it is a unique restaurant. I was terribly disappointed. We had, by far, the WORST Chinese food I have ever eaten. The vegetables were limp and tasteless. The meat had no flavor and a funny texture. Other than the tea, there was nothing I liked about the meal. I will NEVER go back and will NEVER order take out from them. Usually restaurants with lousy food and mediocre service do not last long. I am surprised it is still in business. I realize it is a part of Butte history, but if I were from Butte, I sure would not be recommending this place to friends. Just saying....

Paiton Fancher

Amazing place, people, food and history! I recommend stopping here!

Of You have peanut allergies beware no sign on exterior of building warning consumers that they cook everything in peanut oil.

Great portion sizes

Lori Fisher

This is truly the Worst Chinese food I've ever had. Vegetable chow main is celery strips and tomatoes. Tomatoes? No other veggies. Egg foo young was like breaded oatmeal and the rice had a strange aftertaste. Sweet and sour sauce is from a can. Its shabby, and a peachy orange..not oriental. There is no red velvet and no downstairs, so I'm not sure when other reviewers went. The curtains are orange stripe fabric and dirty from waitresses hands. It's also very noisy, no character and hard wood and wire chairs. How this ever got best of the best we couldn't guess. Wed hate to imagine the competition!

Larry Fischer

Mark Harrington

David Ho

Not even close to real Chinese food.

Keith Vallely

This place smells of mold so bad we couldn't enjoy our meal. Everything else was just as bad service and food and , let's not even talk about the bathrooms. We will not be going back.

Kevin Butori

Danny will cook you up some of the best authentic Chinese food you will ever eat! And the bartenders serve up some great drinks

Lane Butler

It was okay

Dan King

Worst meal I have ever tried to eat. Pure garbage

Jj Jordan

Old school Chinese, oldest continuously run Chinese restaurant in the USA.

D W

The oldest Chinese restaurant in Montana and it has the best chopsuey! The bar has a nice selection of beer and alcohol too. I highly recommend this place to eat for the food and the rumored legend that the building used to be a brothel.

Angie Mullikin

Good service, but not good food.

James Berglund

Jim Ward

Kyle Rosencrans

Couldn't tell the difference between dishes...Just plain, no flavor food. If you believe different, then you're either dead inside or a friend of the place

Longtime Resident

Dirty and slow. Served $30 canned food and nasty drinks.

Bob Bergsing

The best thing about this was the atmosphere. The food was the worst! It would have had been better if it was Chung king out of the can. Will not be back

Anthony Trentacosta

If this place is the best Chinese restaurant in Butte then don't eat Chinese when you visit!

David Fenner

Unique setting and decor upstairs, but food was average with ample portions.

Clint Earhart

Danny and Jerry have been friends to the family. The history behind the Pekin noodle parlor is quite unique ... authentic food. Delicious place to visit.

Ashley Robinson

So good!

Elisha

This is by far one of the best Chinese restaurants I’ve been to! It has such a homemade taste to it and the seasoning isn’t too much, love it so much!

Jim Kingston

You have to be from Butte, to really appreciate the Pekin. Excellent food.

Ordered when I was 15min out of town. When I got there still took another 37 min to get it. Ordered chicken sub-gum chow mein ($6.95) on website. And wonton appitizer ($6.95) on website.. charged me 17.10 and had pekin noodle on receipt. Open sack to discover sweet/sour sauce in carton also... no container w lid. But didnt tell me that. Get to motel open carton and have almonds on it!!! No mention that it has almonds on website so now cant eat it... they need to brush up on food regulations. I am reporting them to state attorney general.

Josh Sperle

Worst Chinese food I have ever had. My almond chicken looked like someone dumped a can of alpo out on my plate and tossed it in the microwave.

Karin Wolff

This is such a historic place! Oldest Chinese restaurant in America and has great food and service! A must go to if you are in Butte!

Stewart Salkeld

Fantastic family style chinese food amd great ambiance!!

Katrina Campbell

It's historic. The restaurant has been in constant operation for 100+ years. I'm not a fan of Chinese food in general, but the Pekin serves it up with history, tradition and in an environment you cannot replicate. My husband, a Butte native, craves the pork fried rice so we go every time we're in town. We meet family there. We have an ice cold beer and a variety of dishes that we share. It's worth the visit - just don't bring your fine dining snobbery, that just won't do and only you will be disappointed.

Mike Morin

Try a bowl of fried won ton and sauce.

CJ Patritti

The food is great!

Robert Brouillette

Pleasant. Where else can you get Chinese beer. Try it. Give Alysha good tips.

I hate going out of my way to give bad reviews, but the world would be better with this place gone. Awful ingredients, bland preparation, no noodles in chow mein?!?! The worst food I've seen in a long time

Place has been open sinve 1916 which is neat. Pretty sure the food they serve has been fermenting for about that long

Sweet n Sour Prawns made spicy is where its at!! Great service and friendly faces.

Kayla LeProwse

Love noodles and sweet n sour chicken it's a huge hit with kids too

Katie M

The sweet & sour spare ribs & bbq pork are the best items on the menu. Noodles are good, but don't get the fried rice unless you like soy sauce.

Alex Anderlik

One of the most interesting restaurants I've ever eaten at. Located on the second floor, this restaurant is full of quirky, brightly-painted booths with a curtain for privacy. The atmosphere itself is worth having a visit. The food is, of course, Americanized and cheap, but surprisingly well-done despite that. If you're in the mood for Chinese food in Butte, this is my top recommendation.

Kevin W

It's the ugliest Chinese dive I've ever seen but it's charming and the food is to die for.

Jeremy Rossberg

Best Chinese in town

Mike Holm

This place was so cool. You get your own privately curtained booth for a very unique dining experience. The food was amazing and the attached bar was really fun. The sweet and sour sauce was out if this world. We got the foil chicken appetizer and whatever they do to that chicken was phenomenal. We also got the tofu beef which was just beef and veggies and tofu all in brown sauce and that was great too.

Brian Taylor

Historical building but trash food.

BJ boy b,

Bad bad food I have been in the restraint business for thirty years brought my family in the food was bad no good I was disappointed because this is an original historic butte place to eat in thirty years not Evan a new paint job the food was gross so disappointed four seasons a great restraint compared to this

Johnna Beatty

Ann Vorobetz

Love this place! I have been coming here since childhood and absolutely nothing has changed... but why change a good thing? The wontons are the best I have ever had.

Authentic Chinese Food with old world atmosphere

Warren Sullivan

Great food quite the old building for atmosphere for a business has been operating for over a hundred years.

Josh Dillon

Zak Thomas

Dustin Gerky

Absolutely awful food. Listen to everyone else that has negative comments about the place. The almond "chicken" I had was just pressed, processed chicken cut into strips and the whole dish's only flavor was coming from the celery. I doubt that they make any of the food they serve on location. Even if you are craving Chinese food, avoid this place.

Theodore Andrews

If you like unique places you will love Pekín Noodle in Butte. It's been around for over a 100 years. The Chow Mein we had was filling and good. Service was very friendly.

R. Williamson

Kristine Jordan

The poor change in food quality and atmosphere was extremely disappointing. It had been about 3 or years since I had last ate here and it used to be amazingly good. This last visit was not the case. When I walked in the door the place smelt of mold terribly bad and out table had sauce all over the rim of the table when we sat down. Unfortunately the food disappointed as well because it was no where near the quality it used to be. It’s a shame such a historic place in Butte had declined. Hope they turn it around.

Key Klungland

I had been there once before for and I had tried the sweet and sour chicken and it was okay. Went there again with my boyfriend. I had the chicken chow mein. The food was bland and was not as described. His food had 3 pieces of meat and the rest was bone chunks. The only thing he found somewhat edible was the fried rice but he still didn't like it. They said they slice their chicken thin but it seemed very suspicious. It looks like its out of a can. The place has good history it would be nice if it actually had better food. The place is really dirty though. It was some of the worst food I have ever eaten. We asked them to take off some of the money because we weren't happy and they only took off $2. We went to McDonald's after.

Brian

Love the food and private booths!

Ben Rice

Had great food, everything tasted homemade and authentic. The curry beef was phenomenal and the egg rolls were delicious! Unique Atmosphere because the booths were isolated into little rooms but we were able to visit and laugh without bugging other patrons. The food though was stellar! They also just celebrated 100 years of the same family owning and working the restaurant!

Zach Fost

The worst food I have ever eaten. I had the mushroom chicken chop diet. The mushrooms were canned, the chicken was sliced lunch meat, it came on a giant pile of steamed celery, it was cold and bland. I will never visit this place again and I'm honestly confused as to how they are still in business.

Brokenstirrup Adventures

This is the third time I was there that I had to walk out because nobody took a food or drink order.

Staggering OX Butte

Sweet & sour chicken with the homemade sauce! Plus chicken fried rice. We order the same thing for the past 30+ years! Our twins picked the Pekin for their b-day.

The food is wonderful, and I understand that this place is trying to keep the nostalgia alive, but I see the potential for major improvements. We waited about 15 minutes in the crowded corridor before anyone acknowledged us, then another 20 minutes after being sat to be greeted at the table. The barbecue pork us a delight, the broccoli beef was hearty and tangy. I'd love to see them paint the orange walls and give the decor an overall more ambient, relaxing feel.

Luke Suttey

Great food, historic local restaurant, some what expensive but you won't leave hungry.

Hazer Live

An awesome place to eat out. The experience is very unique and it's really a fun place to take visiting guests.

Cassie Francisco

worst Chinese food I have ever had in my life. It's all processed garbage. I wasted my money here today. Never again.

Raymond Hibnes

Great Chinese food!

Jon Straughn

The initial smell going up the stairs makes you want to turn around and run. BUT, the food is excellent and the private booths are unique. Our waitress was very friendly.

travis johnson

Shrimp was good, would have liked more than 2 with the meal I ordered. Spare ribs were ok. Sadly the good ends there. Menu was dirty, didn't see our server more than the bare minimum. The food was the worst part. Chicken fried rice was just plain brown rice with cold thin strips of processed chicken sprinkled on top, not cooked in with the rice at all. Chow meign was the worst, was those hard brown lachoy noodles you buy in a can with soggy vegetables layed on top with canned mushrooms. I'm not sure why so many people left 5 stars, most of them talk about the history and not enough about the food. It just wasn't good, one of the very very few times I didn't finish my meal.hopefully they change things up, I really can't see them continuing long serving that low quality of food.

Jessie Tonkin

Love it

K D

Excellent food and service

Craig Turner

The food was good. The service wasn't. We waited over 45 minutes to get our food and it had obviously been sitting under a heat lamp. Other patrons seemed to be getting their food in a timely manner, so I think it was just our waitress but we came close to just walking out.

riley callahan

It was alright, nothing spectacular.

Love the atmosphere, and the food is pretty good. Worth the trip if anything for the history.

I don't so much dislike the place, it's that I don't like my Chinese food cold, they're was four of us and everybody's food was either Luke warm to just down right cold, the flavor was there but it would of been better hot.

The Pekin Noodle Palor, though not authentic Chinese food, is authentic Americanized Chinese food. It is the oldest existing Chinese restaurant in the US. It even has a fortune cookie machine. The history of this place is quite interesting. If you are passing by Butte, you should definitely check out this place.

J0K4W1LD81

Pretty good food!!!!

The food was disgusting. The chicken soup tasted as if it was out of a can and the short ribs were mushy and bland. We went to taco bell instead

I just wanna say before I start that The Pekin is great. First things first, we were greeted by our super nice server who lead us to our table. After we ordered, we enjoyed some of the best tea that I had ever had. All of our food came in under 15 minutes, and the restaurant was packed, showing that the service there is great. All booths except for one were taken. My family and I dug in. The noodles were good, but the sweet and sour chicken was EXCEPTIONAL!!! In fact I had never had better Chinese chicken in my life. My entire family (including my grandparents who have been eating at The Pekin for years) loved their food. We were sent off with fortune cookies (traditionally, of course.) The entire experience was amazing and I recommend it, highly. Not to mention, the quirky yet beautiful atmosphere was such a unique dining experience that is hard to find.
