This Restaurant belongs to the category of Buffet restaurant.
Quality is decreasing but the price isn't. I've been here several times in the past, and this place usually has an amazing selection. One of the reasons I choose this buffet is that they have a BBQ selection in addition to the other usual choices. But last night the BBQ selection was horrible. They put ribs out there, and they were decent, but the sliced turkey was all kinds of dry and that was it. The other meats were fried shrimp and baked cod. Price was still about $30 per person. Desserts are still super good. The bread pudding is the best I've found on a buffet. I think if I give this place another chance and the BBQ section doesn't have some brisket on it at least, then I'll be crossing this place off my list completely.
Service was good. Food was blah. The bread pudding was the only bright spot
I enjoy coming here to the buffet at the Ameristar on Thursday it's roll back Thursday add spam okay I got my military discount for $14 but still I don't know best time to come as the snow crab legs they're not king crab legs or snow crab legs much better much sweeter and all you have to do is eat that long part I guess should call the the shank the ends they don't want you to be I think they donate those.
VERY GOOD!! The food was hot and delicious, the staff was kind and courteous. Best casino food around!
Crablegs we're dirty and the food is very bland not worth the money at ..all! Waitress was very slow. No free refills
Went for lunch on a Saturday. Disappointed. Most stuff was cold and dried out. Not worth the money.
They had good food
For the price they should have better fresh food. Everything looks like it’s old. The meats are dry. Skip out on this and save your money
Great place to eat an gamble. They treat you like a king. Tip your waitress
Food was hot and fresh
Large selection and variety. Good food at good price.
Service good, food "eh". Won't be back anytime soon. I thought I had an appetite, turned out I didn't.
This place paled in comparison to the first experience. Food today was mediocre at best, however service remains outstanding. Everyone has an off day, still we would return
They close an hour early on mother's day of all the days
Food quality has been steadily declining. Buffett meats are barely warm unless you watch them remove it from the heated holding cabinets immediately prior to putting it on your plate. Not really worth $20 + per person.
I. Will. Be. Back. With. My. Family.
Good food but a little over priced. Need Bloody Mary's.
Just amazing!!
Food was horrible, went for Mothers day buffet. They advertised prime rib and shrimp. They had a large selection of food, but by the time I kept tasting different foods to find something edible, I was full. The salmon was dry, the shrimp was picked out of the dishes, and the prime rib was sliced so thin it was only a sliver of meat. The second attempt at the prime rib yielded 85% fat and no flavor. The soul food was bland and the Asian cuisine was old and unappealing. Dry pizza, old crusty eggplant, and fresh out of the box desserts (yuk.) When I told the server who was the only good thing I encountered besides the soda, she told me to complain on the survey and that it might help. I will never return to this place again. PERIOD
Most of the food is very good, but some just isn't. It is pricey. The creme brulee and the lemon meringue pie are to die for!
Very good
So many options and not enough time to try it all. Absolutely fantastic food
Let's be real we only go to stuff our faces with all you can eat crab legs
No shrimp, sea food nor roast beef. This lunch menu was pretty dismal. And the check in was slow. No return.
The food is petty good. Lots of items dried out or overcooked. 40$ per person because they serve crab legs which i don't eat. Maybe ate 10$ worth of food. Service is excellent. Atmosphere is great.
The food was great! Lots of variety. The service was excellent! I would come back again and again!
The variety is great. Pretty good food for a buffet.
It was horrible nothing at all like it use to be the crab legs were coming out so fast that they where ice cold the chicken was dried out like it had been cooked the day before then reheated basically I tried just about everything hoping to find something good and fresh but nothing, everything was just HORRIBLE y'all should be ashame for taking people's $39.99 for junk...
Good selection. Friendly staff. Didn't feel overwhelming.
Can't even explain how wonderful the staff was there. Food was next level amazing but the staff is what made the experience so great. Huge shoutout to Kaytie for being so wonderful.
Way to much to choose from. Fantastic food and staff!!
Food was good.
Office party had the buffet was really good
The Ameristar buffet is pricey, but it's worth every penny. Even if you're not coming out to gamble, the surrounding atmosphere of Ameristar offers a serviceable movie theater, arcade, and assortment of other places to visit while you dine at the buffet. The buffet offers a very wide variety of foods, I seldome leave having even sampled everything I wanted to. This buffet offers a high quality of food as well, a quality so high you may think you quite literally ordered everything on the menu at another restauraunt. The environment is classy and clean and the employees are downright compareable to the quality of Disney.
Food was good.
Real good selection can't ask for much more from a buffet.
The service from the staff here was amazing, so very friendly! And those deserts... A little too good.
Good varity
What a fun place to enjoy a night out. All you can eat crab is a great deal! We paid less than $100.00 for two. The service was good. Amd the food was yummy.
Food was ok, but restrooms are at the other end of the casino complex, somewhere. Not convenient at all. All you can eat -- but nowhere to handle your business.
Overpriced for a limited variety buffet. Service was poor. Crab legs were small. Desert bar was great.
Went for the crab legs on a Friday... Very good assortment for the buffet... And,,,. Mmmmmm... The deserts... Need I say more...
Always pleasurable variety of food and excellent wait staff.
Best crab legs in the whole wide world!
Food is great but service is lacking. For the amount of money it cost to eat there, you shouldn't have to wait 10 minutes for a drink.
If you are thinking about going to Golden Corral, drive a little further and go here. Better value for your dollar and price difference is very minimal. The variety and quality is good.
Great food and good service. Pricy bit worth it.
So many choices and styles. You would probably need to stay a week and eat every meal there to try everything. Wait staff is excellent.
Great quality food, friendly staff and decent price
It has alot of different types of food to chose from.... Real good dessert options, plus alot of good none sugar desserts!!!!

Great Buffet choice of a lot of good food.
Love all you can eat
Excellent Thanksgiving Buffet, every thing you could ask for! And then some!
Had a great time with my family. Many good dishes to pick from.
Probably the worst buffet I have been too! Golden Corral puts off a better buffet for the same price.
Well, I'm not a picky eater, and on occasion can nearly eat my weight in food. So we make an annual event out of this with my son's team. They have a nice array of foods, from Chinese, to Italian, to traditional America fried chicken, prime rib, and fish. Plus they have the standard desserts and salad bar. While they have a LOT of things, I don't know that there was anything necessarily notable from a taste or quality perspective. Like any buffet place, I don't think you get the best quality of meat, but if you are cool with that and the $20 price tag, you are good to go. I will bump this from a 3 to 4 based on desserts. They have a number of items that are unique from other buffets. The kids raved about some kind of chocolate caramel mousse. They even had options between sugar free and regular apple pie, which I found to be a nice touch. Even had several cheesecakes. What I liked most: baked and fried chicken, fried rice What was disappointing: baked fish, ribs, no ice cream (broken)
Had Llunia. Went out of her way to make my grandmas birthday special. 5 stars
The buffet is way over priced. We went to the sports bar instead.
Nice place to escape having a mess at home on Christmas. A little pricey [but it was Christmas, after all] Lines were long but they service was quick. So many choices! I recommend.
Not what it was years ago. All food sub par. Minimal offerings.
You can definitely tell it was buffet food
The server Aerial was the best, amazing service. All you can eat crab legs is awesome as always. But the price is getting a tad bit out of hand. All and all, very nice.
The regular fried chicken was really good and this comes from a person that is npt a big chicken eater. The desserts are quite tasty.
Great food an service!
The buffet is always good here but it use to be excellent. Crab night on Saturdays is superb but lacking on the sides compared to the old days. This is my casino of choice but they are slowly start to drop. Desert is killer as always and always on point. I hope Ameristar realizes they have loyal customers and start to fix their issues. They need a new outlook overall on the casino. They will disappear if they don't start correcting issues soon. I hope so!
I should have given more context to my review. So for starters. Realized while looking for prices on the website etc that they closed at 9 PM. Not a big deal here. We confirmed we could eat as long as buffet still had food on it. They would start tear down at 9 PM. We had 2 parties and the server couldn't quite understand we had 3 drinks where one person wanted a sweet tea other person un sweet. That took a bit. Although the "Crab" dinner is listed on the site now. It was not listed the day of the visit and we were a bit shocked by the sudden increase in cost. Aside from the crab. It seemed to be a "Chicken Chicken Chicken" kind of night with a smidgen of turkey sprinkled in. Previous Visits were much better. We just now know to avoid Friday and Saturday dinner buffet and should not go so close to close.
Same as always nothing at all to complain about at all. Always a delicious Buffet.
Not a real fan of crab legs but they do have a lot of other things to choose from.
For $15.99 for lunch on a weekday, I guess I expected more. The evening Buffet is only $4 more. Last time I had their evening buffet, there was at least some steak or shrimp or something special on it for the $19.99 price tag. There was nothing special on the buffet that would justify the price difference between this buffet and Golden Corral. Maybe they feel they have a captive audience.
Buffet wasn't up to it's usual standards. It has been better in the past and there ice cream machine didn't work the night we were there. Our waiter Leon was excellent.
First time here and it is by far my favorite buffet. Cheaper than I expected and delicious food. Very clean restaurant. Great desserts, nice variety too. I like how it was food court style and organized. The staff was also friendly. Would definitely visit here again when given the opportunity.
Price is outrageous and food was fairly dry. Service from servers was decent. Just not as it was several years back.
Food poison
COME ON OVER GUYS EVERYTHING IS GREAT GUD FOOD GUD FAVOR AWESOME DESSERTS FRIST TIME FOR ME AND MY WIFE. WE BOTH LOVED IT
Good food little pric'e but very good
Crab legs were off the chain very good and we had a great waitress
All you can eat crab legs!
Nice place I go on crab leg night
Great food. Great price.
Very good but, just feels a little like golden corrall.
Very good!! fresh, hot and delicious especially the crab legs on Fridays and Saturdays
Tasty food and large selection
The price is to expensive and the food and service is so terrible ribs are to old like it was from 3 days old everything was cold this place is getting really bad
The best of them all in casino dinning..
We decided to enjoy the buffet for Mother's Day. The service was great. The food was great. However, my family and I witnessed a male employee dropped silverware on the floor and with no hesitation pick it up and put it back in to the clean utensil cabinet... Gross!
Don't really know what this is about
For the money this place really should be better... The service is always good but the food is barely average
My husband and I stop in for a little lunch. They had very limited menu. The food looked over cooked and it appeared that the food had been sitting for a while.
Love, Love, Loved this place.
A complete buffet for free for Veterans Day. What could be better?
Delicious as always we always enjoy eating at Horizons
Loaded with crab legs. Lots of options very tasty.
The mashed potatoes we're runny and had an odd flavor. For the pot roast being shredded the way it was, was not very tender. The small ribs alone are not enough to make a meal on oh, but they were not bad
The food was good and theyhad great service.
My wife and I decided to do a date night at the Ameristar casino. We chose to go to the buffet since the food was going to be ready and we wouldn't have to wait like at one of the restaurants. Big mistake, it was a Saturday night so they charge $40 a person, so with tax and tip it was a $100 meal. Their reasoning for the high price was all-you-can-eat crab legs. Those were ok, not great, not terrible, but certainly not worth $40 per person. The rest of the buffet was actually worse quality than any Golden Corral or other buffet style places. Except for the fact that it was easily twice the price. We were so turned off by the meal and ridiculous price that we ended up leaving Ameristar and went down the road to Harrahs to gamble. Good job Ameristar, you lost out on a couple of frequent fliers over mediocre food for stupid high prices!
Great food
Lovely ambience, nice food and good sight seeing.
This place has a tremendous amount of food BBQ Chinese Italian home cooked however I think they lack the quality on somethings others food was good.
Service was great. The people behind the buffet stations were friendly as well. The lady at the Italian buffet was great. She got to talking to my husband and I about Nascar. We could have talked all day to her. The choice of food on the buffet has declined. The ribs on the buffet (I can't remember which one) tasted old!
Excellent crab legs , great atmosphere, fast service
Love those crab legs. Of course the other foods good to
Cold food that should be hot..poor selection!
We had been to this place one time for crab legs 39.99 and we were not impressed. So on New Years Eve we decided to go to the casino there. I called ahead to make sure it would be 19.99 for the buffet. There recording gave the prices and only listed special prices for Christmas day. When we got there it was 42.99 after we waited in a long line. I explained that thier message did not list special pricing. Was treated like to bad. Finally after talking to several workers they decided to give us a 60.00 buffet coupon for the next time. So I look at it when I get home. It has to be used in 30 days. Not happy at all. One I dont go out to casino that often. Second it was a treat for New Years Eve. Totally disappointed with the buffet and there customer service. After all this we discover almost every one there is getting the buffet free with thier coupons I understand that they spend money there. However not good service to bring new people to your casino BUFFET IS AVERAGE AT BEST. CUSTOMER SERVICE TERRIBLE.
Prime rib was perfect.
The Buffet at Ameristar always has great tasting food and a great selection. There are 5 stations: Chinese, BBQ, American, Italian and a huge salad bar. For guests 50+, it is BOGO free on Monday and Tuesday, which is about $8 per person and a fantastic value!! They also have a huge dessert bar with soft serve, warm chocolate chip cookies and so many other pies, cakes, cookies and pastries!! On top of all that, drinks are included.
Buffet at Ameristar was very disappointing.Fried chicken was dry. Several empty bowls that they did not fill. At least while we were there. Got one piece of tilapia which was excellent. Went back to get another piece. Empty. Still empty 15 minutes later. Buffet used to be very good. Won't return. AND we paid cash, weren't comped.
Wide variety of foods to choose from. Excellent service. Great desserts.
Ameristar has the best casino lunch & dinner buffet in Kansas City. Asian sweet spicy wings, pot stickers. & Pho Soups ... Great Kansas City beef & pork choices ... good Seafood choices ... full desert island.
I jus5 love the all you could eat crab
Had lovely meal and a great waiter
Not so great. Food was mostly cold. Steaks were not cooked like we asked. Plus side, our waitress was great. Probably wont go back.
Staff is fantastic! Food is pretty good. Better to go for lunch than for dinner.
One of my favorite buffets in town. The casino is just such a beautiful place in general! Friday and Saturday they have crab legs and steak. Sunday night is prime rib and shrimp night. No matter what night you choose to go their wide variety of very expertly cooked food with have you endlessly stuffing your face! They also serve bottled beer and select wines from liberty Creek.
The best buffet in town. I eat here about twice a month and love it!
Buffet was really good. Had a great selection of varieties
We were at Ameristar to see a concert, and planned to pick one of the restaurants for dinner before hand. We had seen ads and signs for the buffet at around $20, so when we came upon it we went on in. I was stunned when the bill came to $90+ for the two of us, but rather than try to reverse the charge we went on in. OK -- my fault for not catching their little bait-and-switch... Now on to the food -- and this is about the food, not the price. Absolutely horrible! It was crab leg night and they were so soft you couldn't crack the shells, just kinda bend them back and forth until they broke. Which of course destroyed the meat inside. There were no small forks available, so you had to dig the meat out with a regular fork. It was a complete waste. Oh well, plenty of other options right? The Chinese food was disgusting, the bar-b-que was terrible and dry, the Italian was dried out pizza and some other stuff I didn't even want to bother to try, and shrimp were way overcooked. The creme brulee was the only thing we found in the whole buffet that was actually good. I don't expect top-notch food on a buffet, but if you're charging that much, you need to deliver. And if the upcharge is mostly about the crab legs, they need to be edible. Never again.
Very bad. Food just tastes bad
My wife and I both luvd the food and the roomy area of the buffet. Cheaper than some of the other casinos and the food was hot and Delicious. We will definitely be returning soon.
Great service, never had an empty glass. Susan buffet was my favorite, as well as the dessert display. Everything was decadent and indulgent. InI making plans to drive 100 miles to eat there again!
No meat on ribs
I'm not a fan of crab legs but the price was still worth it. Friday Saturday it's 40 bc of crab. The rest of the week it's 20. The spicy shrimp and rice
Pretty gosh darn good. Darn tootten too.
It was very delicious, the deserts were out of this world.
Five people cost $240 on a Friday night and it’s extremely expensive and not even worth it. We came from Omaha Nebraska to visit Kansas City and this was the worst experience out to eat on 8/10/2018! We arrived right after 4 o’clock at opening. The sweet-and-sour sauce tasted moldy, the chicken Parmesan had a funny taste, the prime rib/roast beef was cold, the shrimp still has the shell on it, and Just an overall bad experience for the price it’s ridiculous! Very dissatisfied we traveled all that way for this nasty food! I would like reimbursement!
Love some crab leggs
Good buffet with affordable price
Not as much to choose from as it used to be. No boiled or fried shrimp, no crablegs, no primerib. Some of the food was okay. Something though didnt agree with me that evening and I spent the rest of the night feeling queasy.
They have a variety of food selections and I have been there previously where the food selection had been better. We went late on a Sunday and it was an hour before they close so the selection was not as great but what I had was good and they still had someone going around checking the temperature of the food and inspecting to make sure what was out was not old.
Overall it's a good buffet, just simply over priced for average to above average food. Selection is amazing.
A beautiful environment with amazing food choices. Ot is a nice place for our family celebrations, like birthdays or celebrating a work promotion, etc. Especially as it has something for EVERYONE! A big plus when my youngest is the pickiest eater in the world. It is by far the best buffet in Kansas City. Certainly the biggest. Good for date nights also before a night in the casino floor. And if you have a mychoice card and use it they run many promotions for a free buffet a month. We love it.
Great food. All you can eat crab legs are fantastic. Amazing variety. Service is great. Kept our table clean and our glasses full. They have all three major categories of cuisine. The desert bar is amazing. They have sugar free options. The creme brulee is amazing!
Great food, and plenty of it. Great desert bar!!
This could have been better, everyone is not a fan of crab legs and there was not a big selection of other food at all for 39.99 there should at least be other options. I'll go to Argosy next time
Pretty good food. Not quite up to the standards a few years ago.
This is a casino buffet, quantity not quality. They try their best.
I went my family for Christmas lunch. It was good. But we've been there when it was better.
Very large in hotel casino . Large selection.
Yes I said four stars service great very well deserved
We got there before they opened at 4 and the food was cold, staff was ok not overly friendly at all. There was one young man that was very pleasant.
Particularly enjoyed baked pork chops with summer squash and apples, shrimp dumplings, and sweet potato souffle. Really excellent selections.
Overcharging for mediocre food. Most was cold. Most did not taste good. Was an excellent place to eat a few years ago!
Awesome place with great food. Get your moneys worth.
Great food!
Terrible food that was way overpriced. This place make Golden Corral look awsome. Not what i expected from a casino.
Ask for extra drinks, or you might die of thirst.
Great food. Just wish the deserts where a little better.. But I love the all you can eat crab legs..
A little pricey, but always a good spot for all you can eat crab legs. They have a wide variety of food, and it taste decent for a buffet. It was pretty clean and the staff was nice. The desserts were delicious and lots of variety.
Terrible and expensive for bad food. Would be a good place to open a Golden Corral. Got there around 5:15 and out of a lot of the different foods. We did have a good server. Coming back to watch a concert in November and we were going to to eat there before then. Now all of us will stop by Harrah's. We would have eaten in one of the better restaurants in Ameristar but being Tuesday they were all closed.
I like the variety of foods and desserts recommended
Food is good. Usually fresh. Hasn't been sitting out.
We went for the Thanksgiving buffet. Service was great and the lines to get in moved right along. Lots of food choices and not having to clean up afterwards made this a good holiday choice!
They are closed on Mondays &Tuesdays and wednesday &Thursday the food choices suck no shrimp of any kind food choices are not very good. Then Friday & Saturday its a whole different story plenty of sea food and more of a variety of better food to choose ...
Best buffet that kansas city has to offer love it
Best Crab
Food And Waitress Were Great
See the comments for AmeriStar, cause I already responded to this for concerning the buffet...
Always tasty food and great service
