The fish and chicken were amazing! The prices are very friendly and I would go back again. Though I would stay away from the fried pickles, pickle chips that have just a tiny sliver of pickel and we're fried to long. The Mac n cheese was good but too rich for my taste.

Quality 5/5, wait 5/5, service 5/5. Recommend everything, as it's all fried seperately and as hand made as possible. If you're in a hurry call ahead, as it's all cooked to order. Ms Kim has been a Staple of Soul Food for years, and the newest location perfectly compliments her style! Locally owned, the absolute best fish, chicken, and frog legs around; highly recommend the Shack Juice as a beverage (home made lemonade and sweet tea combo). The prices are an indicator of quality, notnot port size, but well worth it anytime you feel the urge!

The service was awful. The only reason I'm giving this a 3 star is because the food wasn't terrible. However, the food was salty. My collard greens we're literally smothered in salt, my hand cut fries were not crunchy. The shrimp was a bit salty but not the best. We waited for like 10 minutes until someone noticed us to serve us drinks and then 20 mins for our food to come out. I don't know if I will give them another try.

Stopped by for lunch when I was traveling through the area. I ordered the GG special plate, which comes with 2 pieces of chicken and 2 pieces of fish, 2 hush puppies, and 2 sides. I picked the red beans and rice side, and the mac and cheese side. Let me say that everything on the plate was absolutely wonderful. There was not a single thing that wasn't delicious in the mix. Even the restaurant's own hot sauce and house tartar sauce were extremely good. I then couldn't resist the call to finish this wonderful lunch with some of their banana pudding. Which was also wonderfully tasty. To anyone travelling through the Columbia area I highly recommend you making this a stop on your journey. And if you live in the area and haven't eaten here yet, then what's wrong with you? 5 stars for sure!!

Hands down the best fried chicken in CoMo. I come from the South, so I'm pretty snobby when it comes to my fried chicken, but so glad we found this place. The catfish is also great, and I'm not a big catfish fan to begin with. And before you leave, you have to get a piece of Ms. Kim's special dessert. I can never remember what it's called, but it's this cobbler/cake thing she makes from scratch every day, and it's to die for (especially a la mode). You still leave this place fat and happy, with zero regrets other than the fact that the meal is over and now you have to wait until you're hungry again so you can come back!

This place has hands down the best fried chicken in Columbia. The staff is very friendly and everything we've tried has been delicious. It feels like your eating at grandma's house. The collard greens, red beans and rice, mac and cheese, corn fritters, fried okra, hush puppies; all amazing and made by someone who really knows how to cook southern home style food. Someday we'll try the banana pudding if we ever have room for it.

Wow! My wife and I were passing through Columbia on our way back to St. Louis and found this suggestion online. Over 200+ reviews and the ratings were over 4 stars so we decided to try it out. I had the chicken and catfish combo and my wife had the whiting fish and a side of chicken. First off on the fish, there both good but I preferred the whiting but the absolute STAR is the CHICKEN! The flavor was fantastic and it was all the way through the chicken so they must marinade it overnight. The sides we tried were also outstanding. If you like southern comfort food then you will love this place. I give it 5.1 stars lol.

Maybe our hopes were too high. Slightly disappointed in the fish. Shrimp was tasty but a tad bit extra salty which took away from the flavor. They ran out of spicy chicken and the regular chicken was not impressive. Chicken tenders were delicious which took us by surprise. None of the sides are worth mentioning. This was just one trip so hopefully was just a off day.

It's a bit inconvenient that they frown at people paying with a card and that's a primary reason I don't go there more often since I rarely carry cash, but when I do, I love coming here. I'm not personally a fan of their basic fish as it was a bit mushy the one time I got it, but the chicken is fantastic and their macaroni and cheese is, while A bit unsightly, absolutely delicious. I haven't tried the fancy fish fillets.

I had modest expectations going in here, but they absolutely nailed the food! The chicken and catfish both had a ton of flavor and cooked perfectly (not overdone like soo many places do). It’s very clear they know how to cook. It’s not as trendy looking a spot as some places around so that may steer some people off, but they’ll be missing out.

My husband love's there coleslaw. We normally call a head and order ,pick it up for take out . We normally have dog's in car or we would have dinner inside . Possibly the best fried chicken I have ever eaten. Super crispy skin on the outside, extra juicy meat on the inside. Add to that the hush puppies, corn fritters, homemade Mac-n-cheese and a tall glass of "Shack Juice" (lemonade on the bottom of the glass, sweet tea on the top), and this is a meal to remind you of those lazy, summer Sundays as a kid in the South. Be sure to save room for Geoffrey's honey ice cream, a locally sourced ice cream, available in about 15 different flavors. This is a must stop if you are in Columbia, Missouri.

It's been a while since I ate here, but good Lord, it's the best southern cooking I've had since leaving the south. The collard greens were so good that I wanted to scream and the fish was perfect. No doubt about it. I suggest you call ahead and they prefer if you use cash.

Worth the wait for your food served hot and fresh! Delicious delicious! Love the warmly spicey "kickin" variety of their fried chicken. It's not spicey in a hot way, it's just got some good pizazz. Can't go wrong with the Cole slaw and mashed potatoes with gravy for your sides. Many other delicious sides available as well. The rice and beans is also a good compliment to either the fish or chicken dinners. The staff is always kind and friendly, which is appreciated. Could sometimes be a bit more attentive to customers' drinks, but nothing to complain about. We enjoy the food enough that we drive a bit over an hour one way to eat here when we have the time available to do so. Thanks Ms. Kim! If you're hungry... come on in!

On a road trip to St Louis. This restaurant is conveniently located just a few minutes from the highway. The food was excellent and the service great as well--very friendly. Very happy to see the restaurant is closed on Sunday and Mondays so the employees can worship and spend time with family. We were also happy with the full changing table for the little one traveling with us!

Showed up on a Saturday with a group of about 15 as they opened at 11. We were the second group in the door, after ordering, we wait. And wait. More customers show up, more are seated, and we wait. Our server came out to refill and ask 3 of our guests if they could change their order because they were "out" of certain items. One of our guests waited over an hour for his meal because there was apparently only one chicken breast in the restaurant. He was offered a discount of $1 for waiting for his food and hurrying to eat it before we needed to leave for our event at the local food pantry. The food was d scent enough. Catfish was tender but also chewy, not sure how that was accomplished...

This is one of the best meals I have had in Columbia. Edit: I have been back to eat here multiple times now, and I couldn't recommend this place more. The staff is great, the food is better and it's always spotless clean. This place is a gem of Columbia. I would eat hear everyday if I could. I love the hospitality, and let me tell you the fish is tasty and the chicken I can't beat according to the way it is seasoned and cooked, I rate the chicken No. 1, so if you go to Columbia be sure to check Ms. Kim fish and shack out it's great. Oh I forgot to mention hope you try out her greens they go fast.

Ms. Kim's Fish and Chicken Shack is the place to go in Como! Scrumptious down home cooking! I had the GG Combo (chicken, fish, hush puppies and two sides) with Collards, Red Beans & Rice, and yes.... I had three sides... Black Eye Peas. Yep, I was all in, no playing around. The food delivered and the service did not disappoint. The chicken was perfect crunchy crispy melt in your mouth outside and juicy chicken inside. The greens .. oh my goodness take me back to the South Side of Chicago back in the day when my grandma cooked. Everything was wonderfully perfect! Our waitress, Marjorie, was great, informative, funny, attentive, and gracious. Ms. Kim came out from the kitchen and checked on us. She was a delight. If you are from a family with southern roots in cooking this food will remind you of being back home. The food only leaves you asking yourself one question, " How soon can a come back?" I recommend this spot highly!

Good portions of tasty Southern comfort food at a fair price with a smile! Need I say more? The entire menu is consistently very good. I usually enjoy an appetizer of fried pickles, the Mississippi catfish filet platter with Ms. Kim's spicy creamy cole slaw, and sweet potatoes, and a dessert of banana pudding. The new lazy momma's pineapple upside down cake is my go to whenever she sells out of banana pudding.

I had the battle combo with slaw and red beans/rice. Fried catfish is exceptional, fried chicken could have a crisper skin, but that flavor was phenomenal! Slaw was outstanding, spicy. Hush puppies weren't dry. I loved the red beans, but I was the only one at the table that did. Def my recommendation for fried chicken and catfish in town!

Excellent food reasonably priced. Every dish we odered was lick the bowl clean fabulous and the chicken???!! SO tasty really crispy and moist, so good! I fully intend to try every single dish and desert on the menu! With a giant glass of ice tea, dont miss the ice tea!! Portions are reasonable but feel small only because it tastes so delicious! Home cooking, for real. Ms. Kim's dinning room is clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated. The wonderful atmosphere feels like eating at a good friends home and it was enhanced greatly by Ms. Kim herself who came by the table and stared great information about the food and the place. She even shared a tomatoe and gardening tips! I will be stopping by Ms. Kim's to eat again very soon!
